The situation couldn't be helped, sadly. Just thinking about it brought West a headache. Nothing in the industry came without a cost, and sadly this was a big cost. While it was the first time a movie of his was nominated, it wasn't something he felt proud of. Probably due to the reason why he was cast in the first place.
He knew of the Pendrix and Cain, they were two brothers that cut their teeth on the indie scene with their experimental horror. It seemed all the rage these days, but their movies were actually good and maybe if it had happened a different way he would have enjoyed doing the movie. Sadly for him, his casting was anything but nice. Patrick, the eldest, had blackmailed him into doing the movie. It was so baffling to West, since he probably would have done it anyways. It left a sour taste in his mouth, but he still gave it it all.
Now with the movie being nominated, he was on the press junket with the director. After a day of interviews, West wanted to just pass out on the bed of his hotel room, but someone knocked at the door. He sighed and answered it with a groan, "Yes?"

After 146 days, the Writer's Strike has ended with a resounding success. Throughout constant attempts by the studios to threaten, gaslight, and otherwise divide the WGA, union members stood strong and kept fast in their demands. The result is a historic win guaranteeing not only pay increases and residual guarantees, but some of the first serious restrictions on the use of AI in a major industry.
This win is going to have a ripple effect not only throughout Hollywood but in all industries threatened by AI and wage reduction. Studio executives tried to insist that job replacement through AI is inevitable and wage increases for staff members is not financially viable. By refusing to give in for almost five long months, the writer's showed all of the US and frankly the world that that isn't true.
Organizing works. Unions work. Collective bargaining how we bring about a better future for ourselves and the next generation, and the WGA proved that today. Congratulations, Writer's Guild of America. #WGAstrong!!!

September 25: Read the WGA's email to its membership
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: tweet from Adam Conover @/adamconover that says, "We did it. We have a tentative deal. Over the coming days, we'll discuss and vote on it, together, as a democratic union. But today, I want to thank every single WGA member, and every fellow worker who stood with us in solidarity. You made this possible. Thank you. #WGAStrong".
Attached is a screenshot of the first part of the WGA's recent email to its membership. Conover's next tweet says, "Here's the rest of our email to members, which details what happens next:" with the rest of the email attached in screenshots.
Transcript of the WGA's email to its membership:
DEAR MEMBERS,
We have reached a tentative agreement on a new 2023 MBA, which is to say an agreement in principle on all deal points, subject to drafting final contract language.
What we have won in this contract — most particularly, everything we have gained since May 2nd — is due to the willingness of this membership to exercise its power, to demonstrate its solidarity, to walk side-by-side, to endure the pain and uncertainty of the past 146 days. It is the leverage generated by your strike, in concert with the extraordinary support of our union siblings, that finally brought the companies back to the table to make a deal.
We can say, with great pride, that this deal is exceptional — with meaningful gains and protections for writers in every sector of the membership.
What remains now is for our staff to make sure everything we have agreed to is codified in final contract language. And though we are eager to share the details of what has been achieved with you, we cannot do that until the last "i" is dotted. To do so would complicate our ability to finish the job. So, as you have been patient with us before, we ask you to be patient again — one last time.
Once the Memorandum of Agreement with the AMPTP is complete, the Negotiating Committee will vote on whether to recommend the agreement and send it on to the WGAW Board and WGAE Council for approval. The Board and Council will then vote on whether to authorize a contract ratification vote by the membership.
If that authorization is approved, the Board and Council would also vote on whether to lift the restraining order and end the strike at a certain date and time (to be determined) pending ratification. This would allow writers to return to work during the ratification vote, but would not affect the membership's rights to make a final determination on contract approval.
Immediately after those leadership votes, which are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday if the language is settled, we will provide a comprehensive summary of the deal points and the Memorandum of Agreement. We will also convene meetings where members will have the opportunity to learn more about and assess the deal before voting on ratification.
To be clear, no one is to return to work until specifically authorized to by the Guild. We are still on strike until then. But we are, as of today, suspending WGA picketing. Instead, if you are able, we encourage you to join the SAG-AFTRA picket lines this week.
Finally, we appreciated your patience as you waited for news from us — and had to fend off rumors — during the last few days of the negotiation. Please wait for further information from the Guild. We will have more to share with you in the coming days, as we finalize the contract language and go through our unions' processes.
As always, thank you for your support. You will hear from us again very soon.
In solidarity,
WGA NEGOTIATING COMMITTEE

Strike's over—what now?
Tumblr media
[ID: SAG-AFTRA picket sign with the logo of a person with a raised fist and the text, "SAG-AFTRA ON STRIKE!" The picture was taken near the Sony building and "Sony Pictures" and "Sony Music Publishing" can be seen on a sign to the right. end ID]
On November 8, SAG-AFTRA reached a tentative deal with the AMPTP to end the strike. What can we as fans & audiences do to continue supporting the unions?
DONATE TO STRIKE FUNDS!
The devastating effects of both strikes on every entertainment worker AND those not in entertainment, but affected by the work stoppages, are going to continue to be felt for months, even years, down the line. PLEASE don't let up your financial support just because the strikes are over! Please keep boosting posts about how to support the unions! Tip: schedule the posts for a week or a month down the line so they keep circulating.
Entertainment Community Fund
Green Envelope Grocery Aid
VOCALLY SUPPORT THE UNIONS MOVING FORWARD!
WGA and SAG-AFTRA have won, but you know who still needs a deal? The Animation Guild will have negotiations next year. IATSE, aka International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, which represents technicians and craftspeople, is going to enter into negotiations next year. Teamsters (unionized drivers, including the ones essential to Hollywood sets!) are going into negotiations next year. It is essential that we show up for other unions like we showed up for WGA/SAG-AFTRA. And if you haven't yet... have YOU considered joining a union?
CORRECT MISINFORMATION AND BIASED NARRATIVES!
Lots of people—both in the immediate future and a few years down the line—are going to think they've drawn correct conclusions from the strike that are absolutely false. False ideas like WGA/SAG-AFTRA were the ones that dragged out the strikes, that it was unnecessary to put such a strain on the economy, and so on.
Prove them wrong—and cite your sources! WGA/SAG-AFTRA's Twitter updates and website articles updated during the strikes are a good resource, as are eyewitness accounts from those of us who were active participants in fandoms supporting the unions. Don't let the narrative get turned around. Unions are essential, strikes work, and it was the solidarity between varied workers and their audiences that forced the AMPTP back to the table.

Whenever I talk about celebrities or influencers with my mom, my sentences usually start with "I don't like them because-" since there is usually something they have said or done that's problematic (there are very rare exceptions -like I haven't found reason to dislike Keanu Reeves, for example, because that man seems lovely and kind to the core -or artists like Kehlani -of course I know there are more people -but as I tell my mom and many people frequently, that list is vastly small). And yes, each of them have done things on a spectrum -some much more extreme than others, but so many of them are awful.
Adele and Kate McKinnon during their awful SNL skit about Africa that I hope no one forgets about, to Ariana Grande CONSTANTLY 'cosplaying races' (you only need to search for this online -she's done this numerously), to Mark Wahlburg's violent racist history where he committed hate crimes, to Brad Pitt who we recently discovered is an abuser -to both his ex-partner Angelina Jolie and their kids, as well as Ellen DeGeneres and Lizzo -who both built careers from their respective positionalities in fields where there as a lack of representation only for us to find out they're both part of and complicit in the abuse of those on their teams. The list goes on and on.
Hollywood and the music industry coddle and platform abusers because if they're making them money, despite them being awful, and it's beyond shameful. That's why celebrity culture needs to be dismantled entirely.
