Suigetsu Sees Sai (Really Sees Him)

Summary:

Suigetsu knows what he's supposed to be doing.

(But water slips through even the smallest of cracks.)

Takes place between 1908 and 1919.

Rating: Mature Fandom: Naruto Relationship: Hōzuki Suigetsu/Sai, background Haruno Sakura/Yamanaka Ino and Uchiha Sasuke/Uzumaki Naruto Word Count: approximately 9000 (Complete and posts one chapter daily)

For @hidendumbassvillage who first gave me the idea that these two could be paired together.

Sai smiles awkwardly, letting the old obaachan pat his shoulder.

This inn is almost too humble to be called a ryokan, but it's the only place in this village where travellers can stay and it thrives on the business brought by several trade routes. The family that owns it has been a good source of gossip about local events and he's sorry to leave them behind, but the offer to marry into their family is definitely a sign that he's stayed too long.

The daughter of the house grimaces as her mother makes one last attempt to push her on him, and Sai knows exactly how she feels. She's perfectly capable of managing the place on her own, but her civilian parents don't seem to understand that and Sai knows it isn't his place to try and change their minds.

Instead, he makes an excuse that any good parent would accept.

"Ah, but what kind of life would she have as the wife of a poor starving artist?" He does his best to look hungry even though they fed him well this morning. "What a hardship that would be! No, no, I will not marry until I'm famous! Only then will I be able to keep a wife properly!"

"Well, if you are sure!" Her father sighs but laughs good-naturedly. "Art is your first love after all, and who can deny the callings of the heart?"

"Exactly! My art is my mistress and I must go where she bids, but she's not so harsh as some might imagine." Sai presses a scroll into their hands and beams as they unroll it. The ink portrait is as detailed as he could make it - their whole family, right down to their little white cat - and they exclaim over it. He's carefully imbued the animal with a hint of chakra, just enough to watch the people around it and report back, but their eyes don't seem to see it.

Exactly the way he intended.

NARUTOP99 was a worldwide poll to determine the most popular character of the original Naruto manga. From December 17, 2022 through January 31, 2023, fans of the series could vote once per day for one of 488 possible characters. The results were announced in April 2023. A special manga omake featuring the most popular character, illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto, will be released at a later date.

The 488 candidates are seemingly compiled from the four supplementary databooks: Rin no Sho, Tō no Sho, Sha no Sho, and Jin no Sho. As such, characters that were not featured in any of the databooks, notably Boruto Uzumaki and his age group, are not included. Thank you for the incredible amount of votes! It was fun seeing how results varied from region to region. I was shocked to see Minato at the top for all regions, and the fact that Sakura is so beloved by many people around the world made me proud as a writer. To tell you the truth, I was actually rooting for Kurama. I was planning on drawing only the top 20 characters, but I really wanted to add Kurama, who was close at 22nd... So I ended up including him and Guy, who was in 21st place! Sorry for completely ignoring the original plan to have the top 20 characters for the 20th anniversary because of my personal attachment. Right now I'm working on the short manga for Minato who placed 1st. While trying to make a story that would match the expectations of his fans, I ended up with more pages than I had originally anticipated. OK, here me out, just a thought to Moleover with no expectation on my part. I mean, i just really want to share my idea. A au were Obito is the Jounin Sensei of Team Taka aka Juugo, Karin Uzumaki, and Suigetsu Hōzuki all three Are suffering a form there own trauma and obito Is recovering from trauma somewhat. so whoever is wearing the hat at the time thought it would be an amazing idea to give the traumatized kids to a recently recovered (and is still working progress) traumatize Jounin Obito

Oh the poor babies, that would be chaos xD

It sounds fun though. I’d particularly like to see Karin and Obito bonding times! (In case anyone gets inspired by this plot bunny… 👀)

Sakura looks at her reflection, at the purple diamond that decorates her forehead.

There's a reason she wears her hitai-ate differently to most shinobi, and it isn't only because she needs to keep hair away from her face.

No, it's because of this.

Because she needs to see it.

Such a deceptive mark, so simple for something so complex, that seal was inscribed onto her skin by Rin-sensei when she first became a healer, as is the tradition of all Mito-hime's students. Passed down in an unbroken chain of healers and fighters - often both - it's the legacy of a woman whose knowledge they all carry, a seal that marks them all as members of the same family.

Even if they never choose to fill it.

Even if they lead lives that won't let them fill it.

Sakura has filled it.

She's poured her own chakra into it, drop by precious drop, and watched it darken with each day that passes until it's now the same shade as Tsunade-shishō's.

Which means that she's ready.

Haku's original design

I decided to draw the original design for my oc haku hōzuki

Originally haku was going to be a boy who was 50% hōzuki and 50% uzumaki

Haku's original design had red hair with white roots and two different colored eyes he also had shark teeth like suigetsu and glasses like Karin that would constantly break from his recklessness

And her personality was also more... Psychotic and unhinged... Kinda like jugo

Since haku is 50% hōzuki his body isn't completely made of water instead hid hydrafication technique allows him to control/liquife his body from his bones, organs and blood separately he also has the same healing abilities as Karin
