Can we have some more information about the green matter? Like, what does it do to a person? Skull said it makes them carnivorous but what else?

Note that the Green Matter in this AU may not be entirely accurate to canon-- here we work off a mishmash of very, very old info and the headcanons of myself and the prior mods.

To quote an old ask:

Rock Candy is crystallized ectoplasm, a rare phenomenon that requires specific conditions in order to form at the site of a death. Particularly pure samples may trap the souls of the deceased that produced them. Green Matter is a form of necromantic energy that can be produced from Rock Candy. Without proper shielding/care, prolonged close exposure breaks down the body, causing flesh to melt and fuse into its surroundings, and the mind, leaving the creature essentially a zombie. With proper care, it can greatly extend the lifespan of a living thing, at the cost of increased irritability and aggression (and really sharp teeth*)

Some other side effects Pops (and Ignatius) had: -darkened, thickened blood -pale/ashen skin and green tinging around the extremities -increased appetite -sharpened eye sight (though not enough to keep Pops from needing his reading glasses) -the occasional glowing green pupils

There have also been a few zombie animals spotted roaming the Becile Estate, mostly small birds and rodents that died and were reanimated by the low level radiation in the area before falling apart after a few days. There's also the giant mutated rats in the recesses of the basement; the first generation were escapees from Pops' experiments, and over the generations the radiation amplified their mutations.

Luckily for Scratch and Riker, the radiation present isn't enough to harm or noticeably effect them as individuals.

"After being thwarted by Congress, President Joe Biden will use his executive authority to create a New Deal-style American Climate Corps that will serve as a major green jobs training program.

In an announcement Wednesday, the White House said the program will employ more than 20,000 young adults who will build trails, plant trees, help install solar panels and do other work to boost conservation and help prevent catastrophic wildfires.

The climate corps had been proposed in early versions of the sweeping climate law approved last year but was jettisoned amid strong opposition from Republicans and concerns about cost.

Democrats and environmental advocacy groups never gave up on the plan and pushed Biden in recent weeks to issue an executive order authorizing what the White House now calls the American Climate Corps.

“After years of demonstrating and fighting for a Climate Corps, we turned a generational rallying cry into a real jobs program that will put a new generation to work stopping the climate crisis,” said Varshini Prakash, executive director of the Sunrise Movement, an environmental group that has led the push for a climate corps.

With the new corps “and the historic climate investments won by our broader movement, the path towards a Green New Deal is beginning to become visible,” Prakash said...

Lawmakers Weigh In

More than 50 Democratic lawmakers, including Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, had also encouraged Biden to create a climate corps, saying in a letter on Monday that “the climate crisis demands a whole-of-government response at an unprecedented scale.”

The lawmakers cited deadly heat waves in the Southwest and across the nation, as well as dangerous floods in New England and devastating wildfires on the Hawaiian island of Maui, among recent examples of climate-related disasters.

Democrats called creation of the climate corps “historic” and the first step toward fulfilling the vision of the Green New Deal.

“Today President Biden listened to the (environmental) movement, and he delivered with an American Climate Corps,” a beaming Markey said at a celebratory news conference outside the Capitol.

“We are starting to turn the green dream into a green reality,” added Ocasio-Cortez, who co-sponsored the Green New Deal legislation with Markey four years ago.

“You all are changing the world,” she told young activists.

Program Details and Grant Deadlines

The initiative will provide job training and service opportunities to work on a wide range of projects, including restoring coastal wetlands to protect communities from storm surges and flooding; clean energy projects such as wind and solar power; managing forests to prevent catastrophic wildfires; and energy efficient solutions to cut energy bills for consumers, the White House said.

Creation of the climate corps comes as the Environmental Protection Agency launches a $4.6 billion grant competition for states, municipalities and tribes to cut climate pollution and advance environmental justice. The Climate Pollution Reduction Grants are funded by the 2022 climate law and are intended to drive community-driven solutions to slow climate change.

EPA Administrator Michael Regan said the grants will help “communities so they can chart their own paths toward the clean energy future.”

The deadline for states and municipalities to apply is April 1, with grants expected in late 2024. Tribes and territories must apply by May 1, with grants expected by early 2025."

Batman grunts a greeting at the boy Selena has introduced as "Danny" as if it's totally normal for a kid to be hanging out on a rooftop with her, kicking his legs out above the edge as if he's not 20 stories up.

Selena shares an equally amused glance with Danny that has Batman scowling harder than his usual as the boy gets up, stretching out from his hunch to reveal a 6 foot 2 build not unlike Jason's.

"Wow, spot on," Danny whistles, grinning at Selena. "I owe you a twenty."

"Darling," Selena purrs, hand finding purchase on his upper bicep. "I never exaggerate."

"Looks like Catwoman's got a new scratching post, B," Nightwing cackles in his comm, which is probably why Batman finds himself gritting out a--

The kid--in a hoodie and jeans, seriously, where did Selena find this guy--stares at him incredulously before his mouth stretches into an uncomfortably wide grin, revealing fairly sharp canines. He strides forward.

"What can I say, Mr. The Batman," he says, placing a hand on the man's shoulder. He must be around the same age as Dick. "I've got a thing for powerful women in black."

"See you for dinner tomorrow Lena," he says, hand lifted in farewell as he heads for the edge. He pushes himself over the wall with one hand, dropping over.

Batman clocks Selena's lack of alarm and doesn't flinch. Thirteen seconds later, there's no resounding thud when Danny's body would've met the pavement and she's still smirking at him.

"No metas in Gotham," he growls.

Selena throws her head back and laughs. "If I see any, I'll be sure to call. Now," she kisses his cheek, "I better go. I've got a date tomorrow."

The US passed the world's biggest climate bill EVER (so far!) in 2022 and most people have no idea!!!

This video digs into all of the different awesome things the Inflation Reduction Act does - and why it puts the US back on track to potentially meet our Paris Agreement commitments.

Yall, the Inflation Reduction Act changed the whole game when it comes to climate change in the US. In fact, it's in large part why climate experts (and Hank Green, in this video) say that as of 2022,

We have more reason to have hope that we can save ourselves than we have EVER had, since we started to realize the true extent of climate change

Note: If you're wondering why the biggest climate bill in US history was passed under the name "Inflation Reduction Act," the answer seems to mostly be that it's easier to actually get shit done on climate if the name of the bill doesn't tell everyone that's what you're doing. (Also like. It was designed to reduce inflation too. Just, yknow. Not only.)
