1984 Ghostbusters: Egon Spengler —Aesthetic
Dr. Egon Spengler's Character & Personality
Egon is a former professor of paranormal studies at Columbia University. He's considered the brain behind the Ghostbusters who has designed and built nearly all of their equipment. Egon is hard-working and constantly focused on the paranormal activity of New York. In general, his life revolves around scientific study of all kinds, especially on ghosts. In his spare time, he collects spores, molds and fungus. Egon's efforts in experiments, while sacrificing a personal life, pay off. His theories and decisions from clear-thinking, ultimately save his friends multiple times. Unfortunately, Egon doesn't articulate his emotions well and is "always serious". Yet, He's not immune to anger. Under duress, Egon has been known to swear at times. His childhood may not have been a happy one, as it's suggested his parents were emotionally neglectful; because they "didn't believe in toys". Beyond this, Egon ignores romantic advances and keeps quiet. He's also sly with a dead-pan sense of humor. However, although he's terrified of giant monsters, Egon stays with the others, being brave and cool-headed in the face of doom.

Ch1
The 'Flu
Trevor woke up feeling completely and utterly miserable, even that could be an understatement. His head ached to the point it took him every inch of his willpower to lift his head from his pillow, his throat was on fire each time he swallowed. He had sweat through his pyjamas, they stuck to him uncomfortably and he had to peel them off with his aching arms. His eyes pricked with tears as he stumbled out of his bed, leaning on the wall heavily on his journey to his wardrobe. The stretch felt like it took forever even though it was only a few feet away.
He grabbed the first T-shirt he saw, along with a pair of blue jeans. Trevor managed to shuffle back to his bed seconds before he thought he would collapse into a disgusting, sweaty heap on the floor. As he got changed he realised just how freezing he was, despite all the sweating. Trevor pulled on his hoodie that was folded on a chair next to his bed.
He sat there for a while, arms wrapped loosely around his stomach. There was a knock at his bedroom door,
“Trev, breakfast’s ready” Gary called through the door.
“O-kay, I’ll be down in a few minutes” fuck. Trevor’s stomach was twisted with nausea, but he forced himself out of his bedroom and downstairs to the kitchen after he had splashed cold water on his face in an attempt to make himself look less dead.
He sat at the dining table, his stomach cramping as soon as he smelled the food being placed on the table. He sucked in a deep breath through his nose, in and out. In and out. Trevor forced down three pieces of bacon and a slice of heavily buttered toast before his stomach had finally had enough and he had to push the plate away from him.
“Sorry- sorry, I can’t eat anymore, my stomach hurts and I just can’t. Sorry.”
Callie looked up from her plate, “Come on Trevor, you’re 18 now, you can’t be using tummy aches as an excuse to get out of family day anymore.”
Trevor bit his lip but ultimately decided not to say anything more, it was obvious that he was just going to have to suck it up and try not to die from a high fever or whatever else was wrong with him.

The first activity of ‘Family Day’ was a movie. Starting simple, Trevor could deal with a movie. In and out. A bead of sweat rolled down Trevor’s neck, he wiped it away with the cuff of his sleeve.
Trevor sat curled half in a ball, tucked up next to the armrest. He was barely focused on the movie, so much so that he didn’t even remember what was playing. His eyes felt glassy and he was dizzy looking at the screen, the flashing lights burning into his pounding head. He wiped the back of his hand over his forehead, it came back slick with sweat. In and out . How was he sweating so much when he felt as if he was freezing? Trevor wished he had grabbed a blanket from his bed but it was too late now and-
“Trev- Trevor.”
“Hm?” Phoebe had been trying to catch his attention. “Sorry, I zoned out a bit there”
“It’s fine, I was just asking if you could get me another drink, you don’t seem to be bothered by this movie so I didn’t think you would mind.”
“That's- yeah sure.” Trevor stood up on shaky legs, he walked slowly to the kitchen, grabbing a soda for Phoebe from the fridge.
He was just about to sit down after putting the can on the coffee table when his stomach lurched and he was forced back up standing. He stumbled in the direction of the bathroom but his stomach had decided it had had enough and it cramped again. He was forced to bend over in the doorway with a loud groan followed by a sharp gag. In and out. In and- His knuckles gripped the door frame as he gagged again, this time an unpleasant wave of vomit accompanied it.
This caught the attention of his family. Callie rushed over to him and forced him to sit down against the wall before he collapsed. The palm of her hand brushed over his clammy face, resting on his much too warm forehead. She frowned at the heat radiating from his skin, Trevor barely managed to shrug his hoodie off before he began to sweat profusely, now feeling as if he was burning from the inside.
“Honey, I’m so sorry I didn’t listen to you.”
Trevor choked on a sob as he pushed his now-burning cheek into the wall, his voice whiny, “Mom, I don’t- I don’t feel good.”
“I know, Trev, I know sweetheart. We’re gonna get you into bed, and you’re gonna rest until you feel better.”
Gary walked over to the pair, just coming back from cleaning the hallway of Trevor’s vomit. He helped Callie lift Trevor to his feet, taking the majority of his weight as they walked him to his bedroom. Phoebe trailed behind slightly, carrying a bowl filled with cold water in one hand and a washcloth in the other.
Trevor was tucked into his bed, his eyes were glassy with fever and he kept one arm wrapped around his stomach. Callie held up a thermometer, placing it into his mouth. Once it beeped she took it away, frowning again,
“103.2. That’s much too high.” She soaked the washcloth in the cool water a wiped away the sweat on Trevor’s face before resting it on his forehead. She combed her fingers through his hair.

Trevor layed in his bed for at least two hours, everyone taking turns sitting next to him and changing the cloth on his forehead. But now he was on his own, the others left to the kitchen to eat lunch and possibly make Trevor soup that he was most definitely going to puke up. He still felt like crap but he managed to pull himself up so he was sitting up against the wall, his knees tucked against his chest and a blanket wrapped around himself. His face was flushed red with fever and there was now a pile of tissues on the floor by his bed. He coughed dryly into his arm, curling further into his blanket.
In and out, he was beginning to feel sick again. He grabbed the trashcan he kept next to his bed. In and out. His mouth flooded with saliva, his head hung limply over the bin as he groaned inwards. He spat out the saliva into the bin, but his mouth was flooded again. In and out. He coughed hard, the cough turning into a gag at the end. He spit a thin stream of bile into the bin before he retched and brought up a second wave of vomit. His throat burned and he had tears streaming down his face, his breath hitched.
“M-o-om” He called out weakly between dry heaves. His hair stuck to his forehead, and his skin felt sticky and uncomfortably warm.
Trevor heard footsteps move up the stairs and down the hall to his room. His bedroom door creaked open and Callie stepped inside, her eyes glinting with sympathy. She sat on the chair by his bed, rubbing her hand up and down his back.
“Trev, honey. Do you think you’re done?” She pressed a kiss to his temple.
Trevor spat out a final string of bile and gave a meek nod. Callie took the trashcan off of him and placed it aside to be cleaned out. “Do you want to sit downstairs with us for a bit, we can set you up on the couch with your pillows and your blankets and it might not feel as lonely.”
Trevor nodded with agreement and he allowed himself to be pulled out of bed and lead out of his room and down the stairs to the living room.
Once he was set up on the sofa, he was brought his pillow and his blanket. Phoebe entered the room and sat next to him, she handed him something. Trevor looked at the item, it was a small floppy teddy bear, the same one he was given for his fifth birthday.
“I thought you might want him, you used to carry him around all the time if you ever got sick.”
Trevor pulled the stuffed animal into his chest, curling his body around it. He shot Phoebe a quick smile, “Thanks.”
Trevor spent the rest of that evening, and the rest of that week, cooped up in the house either in his bed or on the sofa. He got a lot of attention during that week, maybe he’d have to get sick more often.

The People v. The Creators
At what point do the fans get to say that the creator made a mistake?
That's something I've been thinking about for a few years now, and I really don't have an answer for it.
Like the whole thing with Star Wars prequels, or Legend of Korra.
Does the creator have the authority to make and remake the world as they see fit, or do the fans--who demonstrate a superior understanding of the world and its rules--have more precedence?
I don't know.
Ultimately these things are for entertainment purposes, so taking them that seriously is silly in and of itself.
But at what point does a piece of entertainment transcend those boundaries and become woven into our collective culture?
When do the fans get to say that the property is as much theirs as the creators?
I think this wave of fan entitlement is toxic and has led to massive embarrassing hatedoms like the ones for the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot or the Snyderverse.
But with the rise of internet fandoms, where entire websites can be devoted to one specific thing, I think this is just going to get worse.
As a dedicated audience, we need to figure out where to draw the line on our level of participation.

Oh, he’s believed in ghosts since a VERY young age. It’s written in the films’ novelisations that he was reading books on the occult and the paranormal as a small child, one of many things that ultimately led the parents of other kids to view him as being not the sort of person they wanted their kids to hang out with. We’re also talking about a boy that finished school at the age of thirteen. Conventional topics, as much as he liked them, he found them almost too easy. That’s why he’s so invested in the unusual. the unconventional, the slightly odd (he collects mushrooms and mould, need I say anymore?). I mean, in the video game it’s even revealed that his former job as a licensed coroner (most likely as a way of earning an income while he was studying in his twenties) has now become a hobby. CORONER WORK IS A HOBBY OF HIS. Normal science is too simple, too mundane. the WEIRD science is the only stuff capable of maintaining his interest and eagerness.
I think the one aspect that would’ve stopped him from wholeheartedly advocating their existence (and it didn’t) was the fact that he’d never actually SEEN one for himself - but then the first film rolls around, and he, Ray and Peter encounter the Grey Lady, and for him, that is IT. Ghosts exist. He’s met one, he’s taken photos of her, recorded video of her, and that moment alone is enough for him to help found Ghostbusters Inc. That event is that final itty bitty piece of validation he needs, after dedicating the majority of his adult life to studying and researching them, and lecturing about them at Columbia.
Does his view on ghosts change? Ultimately, no. It just gets reinforced constantly.

1. How does he react in a crisis? Calm on the outside, panicking on the inside. For the most part, he's gotten pretty good at keeping himself together for the sake of other people while freaking the hell out in secret.
2. Is he a loner or a people person? Both! He's good with people and likes to spend time with his friends, but he's also content to be on his own, especially as he gets older.
3. What's his financial status? How has that changed through his life? Growing up, his family didn't have much money. Lots of mouths to feed and not much money coming in. When he moved to the city, he struggled for a long time. After joining the Ghostbusters, his situation became slightly more stable, but especially so once he moved in with Ray. From there, he maintained a comfortable lifestyle, always having a decent source of income and never spending much beyond necessities.
4. Any exes or former friends he still thinks about? Not in his younger years, but after the Ghostbusters fell apart and both he and Egon left, he never stopped thinking about any of them. Even after getting closure over Egon's death, he still holds a lot of regrets.
5. Any signature weapon? The proton pack, I suppose, or his fists.
6. Any magic? No, I don't think magic even really exists in this universe.
7. How does he like his hair? Natural and short.
8. Most embarrassing moment? He once tried to physically fight a ghost. Once the concussion cleared up, the guys (cough cough pete cough cough) would not let him forget about it.
9. Laid back or dramatic? What's his role in a group? Generally, laid back, and he plays the part of reason, but he is going to gossip about what's going on with Janine later.
10. Is he sentimental? (stares at his multiple cassette collection all about Ray)
11. Does he believe in the fantastical? Ghosts are an obvious yes, and other monsters and creatures are a maybe. He's not as sold on God.

12. What's his outlook on life? He hopes for the best, but is ultimately a realist. He knows and accepts that sometimes things just suck.
13. What's his view on romance and intimacy? In his younger years he had a lot of flings and and casual relationships, but once he really got to know Ray, he knew that was it for him. He isn't sold on the concept of soulmates, but if they're real, he's certain his is Ray.
14. How important to him is friendship? Does he prefer lots of friends or just a few? Mixing together some previous answers for this one. Friends are very important to him, but definitely with quality over quantity. He's happy to have lots of friends or few friends, the big thing is that someone is going to have his back and he's going to have theirs.
15. Important places? His childhood home, the bookstore/the apartment, and the firehouse. His childhood home is a place of comfort for him, although there is a building on the property that he refuses to go near. The bookstore and apartment are also places of comfort and deep familiarity. He could easily navigate it without sight. The firehouse holds mixed feelings for him now, due to the last time he was there, but before that it was another place where he felt secure in his life.
16. What does he do for work? Of course he has his job with the Ghostbusters, and he's spent a lot of his life as a mechanic, but he's also worked in the bookstore on occasion and spent a few years managing the family ranch.
17. Any enemies? Other than the obvious, such as ghosts and Walter Peck, not really. Maybe at some point in high school, but that stopped mattering when he moved to the city.
18. Is he the subject of any prophecies? No. Although you could argue that he's escaped fate, given that both the animated canon and comic canon versions of him are dead.
19. Any paranormal encounters? lol
20. Has he ever lied about something horrible? No. He has lied, of course, but never about something that mattered.
