s05e09 Christmas Special: this episode is just 😍😍 it is so different from the CSs we are used to and...I don't know #loveit

s07e01: I'm not much of a crier but this: "If I never said I was grateful to you. I say it now. If I never said I was proud of the home that you kept, I say it now. If I didn’t tell you that you were beautiful, when your face grew lined…when you didn’t have a new blouse from one summer’s end to the next, I say it now. And if I didn’t tell you that I loved you…I say it now. Missing you…I will talk about tomorrow." (Arnold Gelin), made me sob!

s05e06: I mean...there is so much going on - Sister MC's brutal attack, Sister MJ giving her a bath, Patrick's outfit, Turner's (chaotic) camping trip, Turnadette being all sexy in their tent!, AND that uterine inversion scene! (it made me, apart from 'Nancy pulling Bernard's foot off' scene in s11e03, go 🤢🤢🤢)

s08e09 Christmas Special: I love Scotland...that is it!

s06e08: do I even have to tell you why? THEY WERE SINGING TO EACH OTHER THROUGH THE DOOR!! I know some people did not like that scene BUT! it was everything to me! It made me fall in love with Turnadette all over again! I mean, she was A NUN! okay?! A freaking nun, and there she is in labour with him pacing up and down out in the hall all nervous and worried like a sad little puppy! Not to mention the fact you can see how desperately he wants to be in there with her, but she asked him not to, so he is staying out!...it is like s02e05 all over again! #respect "Once I had a secret love, that lived within the heart of me. All too soon my secret love, became impatient to be free..." (DR PATRICK TURNER WAS HER SECRET LOVE! OKAY?! SHE WAS IN LOVE WITH HIM WHILE STILL BEING A NUN! A NUN! (the way his face went all soft when he realized she was singing about him! #myovariesexploded) and IT BECAME IMPATIENT TO BE FREE!!!!!!!!! HER LOVE FOR HIM BECAME IMPATIENT TO BE FREE!!!!!! SHE LEFT THE ORDER FOR HIM! CAN YOU IMAGINE! IN THOSE DAYS!?! AND SHE TRIED TO TELL SISTER JULIENNE SO MANY TIMES BUT COULD NOT! AND THE FACT SISTER J IS THERE WITH THEM WHILE SINGING IT IS JUST...#full circle moment!) Sorry to say this but if you don't find this scene nothing but perfect, you don't get Turnadette the way I do haha #Ilovethemsomuch (I could go and go but...I won't)

Cerphedis has walked the Paths of the Dead and finally reached Gondor! I've attempted to put together a Gondorian outfit in honor of her homecoming.

She's wearing Hyrde-Breost, dyed black; Lenni's old Decisive Cloak of the Citadel Guard Captain (or was this one Corbous' old cloak? Someone was kind enough to leave it in the wardrobe, for which Cerphedis thanks them); Medium Nadhin Shoulders with a lovely White Tree pin or embroidery or something; Reinforced Leather Dunlending Boots, dyed black; Argent Dwarf-Make Gloves, dyed black; and the Groom's Myrtle Circlet from the Midsummer festival. It'll do for now, but it still needs some work...

Ah, the grandeur of the White Mountains behind her, and...oh, what's this big marble?

When I say homecoming, though, I don't think this specific part of Gondor (the Blackroot Vale) is where she's actually from. Maybe just further southwest, beyond Dol Amroth, maybe Pinnath Gelin or thereabouts; but for the moment I'm leaning towards her home being in Far Anórien. Off in this direction, on the other side of the Ered Nimrais...

Meanwhile, while she was at the Stone of Erech, she met a Swan Knight! And his Loyal Horse!

She also pouted about not being able to acquire all the lovely Gondorian-style dresses as cosmetics. Can't a girl just wear something half as nice as the NPCs get?

Ah, but then I did see one NPC in a dress that's actually in my wardrobe! (It's the Dress of the Anórien Autumn, I think from the fall festival, and this only strengthens my case that Cerphedis is from Far Anórien rather than West Gondor...) I can't dye it quite that dark a blue as the NPC version, but...Cerphedis is comforted knowing she at least has one proper Gondorian dress, just in case she gets summoned to, like, the King's wedding or something.

She still absolutely needs one of their cute slouchy berets, though.

Gürcülerle çalıştı��ım esnaf günlerini bazen özlüyorum. Üç ay içerisinde 500 tane nevresim sattık. Lamazi home. İyi fikirdi. Lari 1.80 (bazen 2) tl idi. Şimdi 10 tl. Yanlış değil. Cidden 10 tl. 35 lariye toptan nevresim satıyordum. 70 tl. Kalan kar 15 tl. Denizliden bir çuval havlu 80 tlye geliyordu. Ah ticaret. Hiç anlamıyordum. Rahmetli Osman amca elimden tutmasa mal gibi bakıyordum. Ahahahah.

Kemalpaşada yılbaşı haftasında kimse kalmazdı. Gürcüler noel sofrasını kurar bir hafta sürerdi. Kimse gelmezdi. İki yılbaşı geçirdim ilçede. Sokaklar bomboş. Soğuk dükkanlar içerisinde köpek gibi titrerdik. Yaz aylarının kalabalığı olmazdı. Elinde siyah poşetler olmayan küçük boylu gürcü kadınlarını görmeyince moralim bozulurdu.

Aynı okulun karne haftası gibi. Ne kadar değişim düşmanı azılı bir muhafazakarım değil mi sayın defter? Düzenimin bozulması beni deli ediyor.

Lisede dört sene boyunca benim hiç devamsızlığım olmadı biliyor musun? İzin alıp samsuna bile gitmedim. Sınavlar bittiğinde karneyi beklemeden herkes izin alıp memleketlerine giderdi. Yatakhane boşalırdı. Moralim bozulurdu. Okula başladığımda ağlamaktan heder olan ben okul bittiğinde yine ağlardım. Çocukluk. Yatakhanenin o boş hali. Nevresimsiz ranzalar. Üzerine MEB yazan keçe battaniyelerin dağınık olması. Zorunlu etütlerin artık olmayışı, kalabalık yemekhanenin sessizliğe bürünmesi. Ah ulan yabancı sessizlik. Psikolojik şiddetti benim için. Okulda son kalan erzaklar bitsin diye kalanlara bol bol dağıtılırdı. Salamlar, morarmış haşlanmış yumurtalar, çokça peynirler ve çikolatalar, tereyağlar. Sınıfta ders işlenmezdi. Can sıkıntısından ölürdüm. O son haftada ben hep hasta olurdum. Aaaaa. Bak cidden şimdi fark ediyorum. Okulun son haftalarında hep hasta oldum ben. aaaaa. Bu farkındalık karşısında ben şok ben vefat. ahahahahah.

Şimdi yine okulun lanet son haftası gibi bir kaç gün geçiriyorum. Hanımla oğlanı İstanbula olaylı bir uçak yolculuğu eşliğinde yolladım. Ev o kadar sessiz ki. Sessizliğe tahammül edemiyorum. Yalnızlık neyse de sessizlik. Ben liseden itibaren müziksiz (kulaklıksız) uyuyamıyorum. Uykuda bile tahammülüm yok sessizliğe.

Dedim bir kaç CMK yapayım. Samsun uyuşturucu yuvası durumunda. Her suç illa ki uyuşturucu eşliğinde geliyor. Artık esrar da değil mevzu, met o kadar kolay bulunuyor ki artık. Adam ifadesini veremeyecek seviyedeydi bir gece saat ikide. Ertesi gün bile uyanamamıştı. Üzülüyor muyum? Evet. Üzülmek değil sanırım. Acımak bu. Adam tutuklanmadan önce bana uykulu uykulu "Herşeyin hayırlısı be abi, Allah bunu da yazdıysa napalım, kabul edeceğiz, elhamdülillah" dedi. Garip bir sahneydi. Ülkenin özeti gibi. Abicim senin evde 750 gr. met, poşet poşet likra falan çıktı. Sen ne anlatıyorsun be abim? Eğlenceli yani biraz da. Ama Allaha olan imanını takdir de etmedim değil.

Yarın yapılacak tonla iş var. Ev süpürülecek, kanaatimce en nefretlik ev işi olan ütü yapılacak. Kurban öncesi buzluk şöyle bir düzenlenecek. Gardaş bu hayat mı be!?? ahahahahah.

Garanti bankası şubesinden aradılar bizi şikayet etmişsiniz BDDK'ya dediler. Yok ben sizi henüz şikayet etmedim Vakıfbankı ettim, ama sizi de edeceğim dedim. Size kredi kartı çıkmış gelin alın dedi. Gittim. Sonuç ne peki? Sistem vermiyormuş. Mahkeme kısıtı varmış. Bayram sonrası beraat kararlarını tekrar hukuk birimine atacaklarmış. Lan yok yok. Hakkımda verilen bir mahkeme kararı yok. Hangi karar bu? Vakıfbanka soruyorum sistemlerinden verdikleri cevap efsane, "Yeni kamu görevinizi şubeye gelip bildirin" Çıldırmalık ülke. Telefon almaya gideceğim yakında Batum'a. amber: favorite poem?

i don't have much i like written in english bc they just feel so bland compared to those i have read of persian or turkish or arabic or urdu or hindi poems (really im realising that i was never exposed to western poetry as a child lol) but i do love "still i rise" by maya angelou! i read a collection of her poetry once a while ago and her words are just beautiful.

"biliyorum sana giden" by cemal süreyya is one of my absolute favourites :') i wish i could give you a proper translation of it it's just so </3 "utansın" by necip fazıl kısakürek is another one of the classics that i adore with my entire being :( he also wrote this one short line that had me gutted for an entire day when i read it called "affet", which translates to "forgive (me)" and it's so, so heartbreaking to me.

"acılara tutunmak" by hasan hüseyin korkmazgil is heart-wrenching as well and i think about it all the time as well ;-; "seni saklayacağım" by özdemir asaf?? gorgeous and disgustingly beautiful.

there is this tree on my way back home that i walk by and it has a very distinct smell that catapults me back to the school i went to during my first and second grade and it sucker punched me in the gut when i first smelled it :') it's mind boggling how smells are so closely related to memories </3 marina diamandis' music also throws me back in time and i always reminisce upon my childhood and the time i spent with my best friend ;-; also pictures oml last time i went on a Google earth deep dive and almost broke down crying bc i saw the old cities i lived in and my old houses and the apartments we used to stay in ;-; it was so wild

Ghosts vary quite a bit by region. While at their core they're the same, being spirits of the dead who remain by their own memories of themselves, cultural differences and the manner of death result in different appearances and behaviors, from the European variant that haunts its old home, to the tragic gelin desperately looking for a husband, to the terrifying onyro who lashes out at the living.

Just as with any living being, you can't approach every ghost in the same manner and expect the same results.

The First Lie is Difficult...and Then?

Pierre Richard, M.D. (Jean Gabin), one of three main characters in LA MINUTE DE VERITE (1952) (U.S. title; THE MOMENT OF TRUTH), lives a satisfying and well-ordered life. He shares a large apartment overlooking the Seine River in Paris, France, with his theater actress wife, Madeleine (Michele Morgan), adorable elementary school-age daughter, Simone, and live-in maid. The apartment is large enough to include his private medical practice.

Most days, Pierre goes to the general practice office where he works with his colleague, Dr. Vallon.

But this dramatic situation suddenly changes on his 10th wedding anniversary. Just as he's heading home, Pierre decides to take on a new case meant for Dr. Vallon who has the day off. It's a house call. A painter named Daniel Prevost (Daniel Gelin) has attempted suicide in his apartment, not far from Richard's office.

Tending to this new patient, Pierre unexpectedly finds a framed photograph of the painter with Madeleine.

"Madeleine and this painter? They were in a relationship? They still are in a relationship?"

The bulk of the plot of this 87-minute contemporary drama and character study has Pierre and Madeleine sparring with each other, analyzing how the deception took place and lasted so long, and then trying to figure out whether or not they want to continue as husband and wife.

Now, that's a lot of information for you who are reading my words to digest. I'm happy to report that I have not given the plot away. And I will not divulge how the dramatic situation is resolved.

LA MINUTE DE VERITE debuted in theaters in the U.S.A. in 1954 and is another example of a forgotten movie -- something I've repeatedly mentioned and discussed, here, at Tumblr.

I'm trying to come up with the name of a Hollywood movie from the early 1950s that dealt with a similar dramatic situation and am drawing a blank.

What I enjoyed the most about this movie as an experience is how I actually wanted the characters, Pierre and Madeleine, to stay together. That is to say I constructed a relationship with both of them, as well as with Daniel.

BACK TO SMALL’S LIVE

GARY GIBBS’ THRASHER ALL-STARS (Chris Potter, Emmet Cohen, and Vicente Archer), SMALL’S JAZZ CLUB, 29 APRIL 2023, 10:30 pm set

MIGUEL ZENON/LUIS PERDROMO, MEZZROW’S, 15 MAY 2023, 9:00 pm set

It had been a whole fifteen days since I’d watched a recent set of music from a New York jazz club and ten days since an archival recording due to some travel, end of the semester, and other reasons why I really should have listened to some music.

What better way, thought I, than to get back to it with the stellar band GARY GIBBS put together. Indeed they were all stars, but their leader is indeed a thrasher who covered up Vicente Archer (admittedly basses do get lost at Small’s sometimes) and who gave Emmet Cohen too little to do and who just wasted Chris Potter. Potter has a nice earthy side and has done Eddie Harris’ Cold Duck Time—and there was an Eddie Harris tune, maybe that one. But a lengthy cover of the Average White Band’s Picking Up the Pieces was too simple a riff, though it’s true that he could thrash. I suppose they did play the theme of Well You Needn’t, but it got lost quickly.

Seriously too bad because a Potter/Cohen conversation would be interesting and Archer always adds to the mix. I can’t tell, but won’t spend too much energy trying to figure out, whether Gibbs’ weaknesses are as a drummer or as a leader or in some conversation.

Undaunted, I came back the next night for sublime music that was the exact opposite—subtle, conversational, intimate—as MIGUEL ZENON and his “musical brother” LUIS PERDROMO ran through tunes they would be recording the next day (today as I write) for a project based on tunes from Latin America. I watched them perform a set of Puerto Rican boleros from a shuttered Village Vanguard during lockdown. The bolero is a form, like the blues, that is so structured that is opens up into countless variations. I think they explained it by analogy to the blues but one could also mention fado from Portugal or Greek rebetik music. So this set of music they grew up listening to at home (Puerto Rico for Zenon; Venezuela for Perdromo). Yes, throughly Latin, but not distinctively rhythmic. Instead Zenon wove beautiful melodies around Perdromo’s chords and countermelodies. It was not quite how Giveton Gelin and Sean Mason interact, but it is a wonder. A chamber music in its own way. My Spanish is non-existent so I have no titles (not that that would matter much) but did take down that at least Mexico as well as their native Puerto Rico and Venezuela were represented.

Let me be clear that this was jazz and not folkloric or archival. Zenon in particular is a wonder, lithe and melodic, patient and expressive. I had just written in my notes “MZ does not play fast” to echo Paul Desmond’s ad in some industry publication, but then he actually did play fast. I’m not at all saying that he reminds me of Desmond, but he is an exemplar of a long line. Perdromo is a lot less clunky than Dave Brubeck.

Her father moved them halfway across the country after accepting a new job ( yup, sole custody ) at another Ivy League College. She was visiting her mom during the summer when she was 12 and witnessed her mom get brutally murdered.

Her father originally worked at University Of California-Berkley but took a transfer to Harvard months after the divorce was final.
