If you ask the Viking boys how their day was
Tumblr media
Ivar the God
Glad you are interested in him
Embellishes everything pompously, after all, he is a god and does divine things.
You are not quite sure if he is telling the truth when he said he killed a deer with a single dagger throw.
He tells how he caught a fish with his hands, but threw it back into the water because the fish had spoken to him.
Odin would have sent him a special message today, but he doesn't tell you what it is (yes, you know, don't you?).
Doesn't ask you once how your day was, because he's far from finished with his
Speaks with hands and feet…. Huh, I mean, facial expressions
Then ask you, what you think about it. I don't know, play dumb, be happy for him and tell him how great he is, it's better for you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Halfdan the Bored
He didn't know if you are serious about the question
After the third time of asking, he thinks about how to start.
He starts laughing and looks around as he comes closer to you
Starts from the beginning, how he was awake, what he has eaten and what he was thinking as he does it
When you look sideways, bored, he nudges you.
Tells everything exactly, no embellishment, because he found the day super interesting
In the end, you regret it because he only fished with Bjorn. But now you know that there will be pike for dinner. Super
He asks you how your day was. Yeah, you could have saved your sentences. Attention span like a mouse, but he's nice, and when you finish a sentence he gets it and says good. Thanks for that....
Hvitserk the Drunkenness
He smiles sheepishly at the question and first pours you a beer
Pours you beer when yours is empty and gets you snacks,
He asks you about your day without having told you about his.
Listens to you attentively and asks if he notices that you have experienced something special.
You are already a bit tipsy and you both laugh about trivial things. The glass fell out of your hand, he laughed and spat his Beer all over the table.
By now, you have forgotten what you were talking about and what you were actually asking him.
You both get the stupid idea of teasing Ubba and both get an enema from him that you shouldn't get too drunk.
The next morning, you wake up naked next to him with a fucking hangover. No idea what happened, ask yourself
Tumblr media
Bjorn the Grumpy
It seems super suspicious to him what you want to achieve with the question
He gives you a nasty look when you explain that you were just trying to be nice.
He scares you when he comes up to you and just stands in front of you. Run?
If you are female, young and single, his gaze changes. Run?
Says his day was good and tries to touch you. If you are a man, he puts a hand on his sword. (The one made of iron! Please...)
Ask you how your day was, again it depends on the gender. With females, probably nice and seductive, with males, threatening.
You quickly decide to say that yours was good too, but no more, get out of here fast. Or ?
There are now several ways to do this. Males should take their legs in their hands and walk. Young women should run, but that is your decision.
Tumblr media
Floki the Madman
He starts with the gods, because everything we do is directed by them.
Tells you about the trees he cut down and wants to show you, jumping up as he does so. Go or don't go with him, I would.
Having decided to go along (meaning me) you may stroke his wood. (huh? Wood!)
While stroking it, he explains to you why the grain of the wood is important.
Now that you are already at home with him, you may also touch the new sails. I've just got it with the stroking, don't ask me.
At the end, you sit with him and Helga in front of the fire and they both tell you Odin's story. In the end, you don't know how you got here, but you have a lot of fun.
Floki asks you if you want to help him tomorrow, but you're not sure if you feel like touching trees, because let's face it, we all have no idea how Floki finds the right trees. And for the next few days, you've stroked enough wood.

Ragnar
Pretends he always knew (eugh he’s such a bitch ong)
Nooo I would never set my son out in the wild… meeee? No wayyy…
He takes credit for it for his ‘great parenting’ and ‘legend genetics’
If Ivar had any legend genetics, they came from aslaug
Aslaug
Proudest mom out there, acts like a soccer/pta mom when she hears
Aslaug actually always knew
She quotes her prophetic dreams from like, 853 AD?
“I knew since I was five years old.” (truth)
Lagertha
Okay? Who cares? What about Bjorn?
Totally not pissed that he may be more famous than she is (lie)
Defo sulks about it to torvi and then kills someone important to expand her own legacy
She’s in the fame biz
Bjorn
Bro throws a toddler tantrum
He will literally stomp the ground
“That’s not fair, I discovered the Mediterranean!!” (he says that in the stupid tone he gets in the later seasons)
So so bitter about it (he deserves that)
Ubbe
Ubbe’s smoking weed in America with Floki
He does not care
“That’s just bad taste from people from the future. Me personally? I’d admire the person who found a continent. Idk, that’s just me though.”
Gets over it the fastest
Literally just thinks that it’s so dumb of modern people bc Ivar is a silly little guy with anger issues
Hvitserk
Similar reaction to Ubbe, except he doesn’t have to get over anything
Just kinda shrugs, he’s too busy worrying about his own legacy
What’s he in the history books for? His cuisine skills?
Yeah, bro’s kinda busy managing his own shit and trying to stay alive
Sigurd
Don’t tell him
For your own safety
Will kill you and then himself
Ivar
Don’t tell him either
Never lets anyone hear the end of it
So so so annoying for a silly little guy
He just loves and hates himself so much that, at the same time, he so needs to hear this and also never, ever hear this ever at all
Floki
Floki is the same as Aslaug, he KNEW
Also, he takes credit for raising ivar and being a father figure (fair enough)
He’s a teeny tiny bit sad that ivar was friends (in a weird homosexual way) with Alfred though (kind of, and this only applies if we’re talking about tv show Vikings)
Honestly, Floki would be such a good source to add to the material we have of ivar
Ecbert
So mad he didn’t have a bigger impact on ivar
Also so mad that all the kids around him have such big legacies (Alfred, ivar) but not him??
He wants to get mentioned!! Footnotes aren’t enough!! He needs to be the main character, always.
Gets sad drunk over it way too long

Learning to Walk Again⎮Ink Drinker Deleted Scene⎮Modern Vikings AU [Ivar x F!Reader]
Find more Ink Drinker here.
Author's Note: This takes place somewhere between Chapter Six, and Chapter Seven, and as someone who is only a provider for patients pre-hospital, this defienetly pushed me out of my comfort zone. (And was likely why it took my so long to write again.)
Content Warnings: Medical settings, Ivar being reluctant.
Word Count: 2600+ words
Tumblr media
“Giving you love right now, Ivar, seems like a desperate act,”
It intoxicates him, lying in the cot; and having seen the abyss he’s falling towards up close, he still refuses. Floki sits on the other side of the room, painstakingly watching Ivar stare at the ceiling, at the world just beyond his window. He’s watching him waste away; pushing himself up on few occasions to readjust, but he refuses food. Refuses help. He just simply refuses.
“The only way I am leaving here, Ivar, is if you get up and escort me out,” Floki has told him, calmly.
“Do you want my lunch?” Ivar asks dryly. Floki on shakes his head. “You’ve been here for days,” He tries.
“As have you,” Floki starts. “The only difference is, Helga has packed me food. You know how she gets,”
“Go home to her,” Ivar grumbles.
“No,” Floki replies, and it’s firm. Reasonable. Steady—what Ivar needs right now. His eyes are still closed as he speaks, head resting back against the wall. Floki never sleeps, Ivar is sure of that. He only rests.
“I don’t want to break up your marriage because of this. I’ve already lost Y/N,”
“You fight for what you want,” Floki simply says. “And, if you would look at any other place than outside your window, you bastard, you’d notice, she’s been in the hall,” Ivar turns his head quickly at that. But he knows, Floki never lies.
You’re there, propped up in one of the most uncomfortable chairs you’ve ever sat in, your sweatshirt bunched into a makeshift pillow as you scroll on your phone. You’re still in your uniform, and you’ll probably stay in it until your next shift. There’s a single water bottle on the ground, and as Ivar watches you, a nurse stops at your side. She offers you something to eat and you accept it. Because she knows you’ve been here for days, too.
“Thank you, Thora,” You say softly and your throat is dry. Dry from misuse, dry from crying. Dry.
“You’re alone today,” She remarks, and takes the set next to you. Your eyes watch her, trailing from your phone to her face before dancing down to her ID badge, clipped to her scrubs by a cartoon pizza slice, complete with a smile.
“Yeah, his brother wanted to get some sleep in a place that won’t cause him irreversible spine damage,” You hum, watching Thora split her sandwich into two pieces.
“You might want to try that too,” Thora says softly, handing you your half. “They seems really close,”
“They’re twins,” You state. “They were made that way,” You snort. “We uh, we worked his crash together,” You then tell her.
“Wow,” Thora answers. “I can’t imagine what that must have been like,”
“I couldn’t tell you, either, I haven’t—haven’t processed it yet,”
“You will in time,” She tells you. “If you don’t die from exhaustion, or spine damage first,” She teases you, and you snort.
“I didn’t get to be where I am without being determined,” You answer. “Chief didn’t raise no quitter,” And that phrase alone makes you smile.
For a moment you wish he was here; everything makes sense with him around. Your drawing he handed you is still in your pocket, and every so often you find your fingers gravitating towards it. Like a toddler and their favorite blanket. It makes sense. Just like everything makes sense in the bay at the station. You can’t remember how many times you’ve sat on those floors, even prior to your career, just to find some piece of mind. That warmth of nostalgia from the cool touch to the concrete; and the smell—one you’ve never found anywhere else. How your home smells, only to you. A scent you could notice any moment, but it would only make sense in that one place. You’d wheel Ivar there in a heartbeat if you thought it would have the same affect on him.
“If he doesn’t start eating soon, we’ll have to place him on a feeding tube,” Thora suddenly admits.
“I know,” You say.
Ivar watches you converse, not able to know what you’re saying but with the expression on your face, he learns it’s nothing pleasant. You’re paler now than he remembers, there’s no color to your cheeks, you’re gaunt, you’re simple existing as he is.
That’s the moment Ivar realizes it. If this kills him, it’s going to kill you, too.
It’ll kill Floki.
It’ll kill Hvitserk.
It’ll kill Aiden.
It’ll kill his mother.
It’ll kill you. It’ll kill the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
Inhaling suddenly, a panic seeps into Ivar—as if something has grabbed him, holding him under water and his screams only bubble to the surface. Sitting up quickly he grips his bed sheets, the monitor to his side beeps rapidly to announce the anxiety and it draws Floki’s attention. It draws Thora’s attention, and with a bite of turkey in your mouth, you look up at the man, with panic etched into his features, he is staring back at you.
“Ivar?” Floki says, and even you notice that this is concerning to him. “Ivar? What’s going on?”
“I—,” And out of all the languages he can speak, none of them want to trickle off his tongue. Thora stands in anticipation and you only put your hand to slow her down.
“Leave him be,” You finally say after swallowing your bite. “Floki’s the best thing for him right now,”
“Not if he’s having a serious problem,” Thora answers, looking down at you.
“He’s not,” You reply. “I know that look,” You tell her.
“I can’t kill her,” Ivar finally says.
“Ivar…?” Floki starts.
“Y/N,” Ivar replies, as if the answer is as clear for Floki as it is for him. “I can’t kill Y/N,”
“You think this is killing her?” Floki asks. “Tell me more,” Ivar swallows thickly.
“She’s…she’s pale,” Ivar replies. Floki negates to turn to look at you, waiting for what more is to come. Ivar takes his hands to scrub the tears out of his eyes before speaking again:
“She’s in the same uniform,”
“She wears and identical uniform, Ivar. Every day,”
“No—no she washes it after work. Right after work—she’s through the door and…and it’s in the wash before anything else. I always—I always kiss her shoulder when she’s done and she said—she wants a tattoo there now because it’s so reparative. It drives me up the fucking wall too because sometimes…she just washes it alone, or I’ve done my laundry already and then she’s there, taking off her uniform,”
You watch Ivar. You watch him explain something to Floki with the intensity through his features, a passion to his words and you wonder what on earth he could be talking about.
“The color is always brighter after the wash, and it’s always dim when she comes home from work. Like…like she’s so excited to go into the job she loves, and even though she’s drained when she comes home, she does it all again because that’s who she is,”
“Ivar,” Floki tries.
“And it’s so dim right now, Floki—her uniform, her face, everything is so fucking dim because of me. And this is killing me, because I can hardly move and—and I keep trying to tell my legs to move but they’re ignoring me. And if this kills me, it’s going to kill her. Where will she find that color if I die, Floki?” Ivar finally cries.
Floki’s eyes water, inhaling deeply as he watches the little boy he remembers cry in front of him.
“Ivar,” Floki says. “Let’s stand up, and we’ll go from there,”
And Ivar nods. Without even thinking about the sentence, he nods every so slightly that Floki almost misses it.
Stunned for a moment, Floki swallows, mentally patting himself on the shoulder as he straightens. He puts a hand on Ivar’s shoulder, squeezing for a second before he abandons his bag on the chair and turns to the hallway. Opening the door and cleaning his throat he looks at both you, and Thora.
“Think you can help him stand, Y/N?” Floki asks. In all honesty, you’re quite positive you’re imagining it. “Y/N?” Floki asks again.
“Help him…help him stand?” You ask.
“Did I stutter?” Floki tries. You inhale, standing as Thora follows you. But before she can follow you into the room, Floki cuts off her path.
“Give them a second,” He winks. “Can I buy you a cup of coffee?” Floki asks her.
“Hi,” Ivar says to you softly.
“Hi, Ivar,” You say back to him as he finally looks up at you. “Oh, Ivar…” You trail off, taking the pad of your thumb to wipe the tear that spills. He melts into your hand at an instance, leaning against your palm as if you’re taking away every ounce of discomfort for him.
“I don’t want to kill you,” Ivar mumbles.
“What?” You ask.
“I don’t want to kill you too,” He repeats, as if it makes sense to you, like it does to him.
“You won’t,” You try.
“If I don’t get better, I will,” He tells you and that’s when it hits you, too.
“Then lets stand up, just you and me, yeah?” You try.
“Are you allowed to do that?” Ivar asks, stalling.
“I am a medical professional,” You say. “And they can sue me if they think otherwise. I’ll move the blanket, you don’t have to look, alright?” You tell him and Ivar nods.
It aches Ivar as he feels you pull the sheet from his leg, relishing in the fact that he can feel it; he can feel the cold air against his skin, but he won’t look. You eyes scan his legs, still wrapped in dressings, less stitches than you remember and you gently place you hand on his thigh.
“You feel that?” You ask and Ivar nods. Your mind takes over, as if he is a patient in your care and you asses is pedal pulse, two fingers on the top of his foot and it’s strong. “Can you feel that?” You whisper and Ivar nods, still looking directly at you. Only at you. You take your knuckle against the ball of his foot, tracing from heel to toe lightly, and back down again. “How about that?” And he nods, a glimmer of a smirk to his lips at how it tickles him. “Can you move your toes for me?” You then ask him, and Ivar does—eyes still not leaving yours. He watches how your eyes water, and you recall asking him similar questions in the heat of the crash’s aftermath and how he slurred a response.
“Can you roll your ankles at all?” You whisper. And you watch them rotate, just as you ask. You take you thumb to his nail bed, pressing against his toe to watch the capillary refill in almost perfect time. And the whole time, Ivar’s eye never leave your face. “Alright,” You squeak. “I’ll help you swing them slowly,”
“Wait,” Ivar says suddenly. “Come here,” And you obey. His hands stretch towards you, taking up your cheeks as he brushes the hair from your face, and wiping under your eyes. He pulls you in then, his lips just brushing yours and you can’t help the small cry that escapes, that’s caught between the two of you before it’s swallowed with the kiss.
“I love you,” Ivar whispers.
“I love you, too,”
“Now I’m ready,” Ivar tells you.
Your hands are nearly hot coals against his legs, as you try to be as gentle as possible with your heart rate nearly pounding in your ears. You have half a mind to stop, to pull out your phone so you can record it but you don’t want to ruin the moment.
“Fuck, that tile is a lot colder than I thought it would be,” Ivar grumbles and it makes you laugh. “If I fall, you know you’re going to fall with me, right?”
“Gee, Ivar, I hadn’t really thought of that,” You say sarcastically and there’s a glare from his face that you don’t realize how much you have missed until that moment.
With his feet on the floor you repeat the same movements, assess, feeling, having him move his toes and his ankles and all the while Ivar won’t look at his legs. Adjusting his hospital gown, you position his hand to grip the railing, and you put your shoulder under his opposite arm.
“Ready?” You ask.
“Not really,” Ivar admits.
“If you think you’re going to fall, just sit back down, alright?”
“You ever done this before?” Ivar asks, stalling.
“Only at least once a day while I’m on duty,” You answer.
“I don’t know if I can—”
“Ivar, not today,” You state. “We’re not doing this today, we’re not doubting ourselves,” And Ivar inhales. “On three, yeah?”
“Baby—”
“Ivar,” You say sternly, catching his eyes. “You can do this. You can stand up. It’ll get you that much closer to coming home,”
“Alright,” Ivar peeps.
“One, two…two and a half…three,” You finally say. And as you hold your breath your barrel your feet down against the ground, taking Ivar’s weight as you help to lift him. You watch the muscles in his arm tense, the veins popping into view as he pushes himself to be flat on his feet. And for a moment, time freezes, and Ivar stands.
He stands.
“Fuck,” Ivar hisses. “It’s worse than pins and needles,” He groans.
“Lean some of your weight on me,” You tell him. And he does. “Alright, good, now shift some back against the bed,” You then say. As Ivar follows your command you take your free arm and you reach for the walker that’s collecting dust by his bed.
“We’re going to switch, and you’re going to push your weight through your hands against the walker, alright?”
“No—I’ll fall,” Ivar tries.
“On three, yeah?”
“Y/N,” Ivar tells you but you know better this time than to let him pull himself out of the moment. You move the device in front of him and he follows suit without argument, grunting slightly as he moves his hand from the rail to the handle. Slowly you help him bring the other hand down, catching his weight before he’s standing on his own, hands gripping the bars for dear life.
And you laugh—in sheer shock you look at Ivar standing before you.
“Ivar!” You exclaim. “You’re standing, you’re—you’re fucking standing!”
Ivar has a look of discomfort across his face, mixing with the anguish and what feels like slight embarrassment while you reward him for what he thinks is the most basic fucking thing.
“Where do you hurt?” You ask quickly, searching his face.
“Do you want to guess?” Ivar snaps at you. His breathing rate increases as he feels his palms get sweaty and he worries he’s going to lose his balance.
“I’m right here, Ivar,” You tell him.
“I’m standing,” He finally croaks. “I’m actually—standing,” And there’s a smile on his face.
You move yourself to his vision, reaching through your toes to kiss his chin and you smile back at him.
“I told you,” You whisper to him, and Ivar sees that color come back to your face.
“Where’s Floki?” Ivar asks.
“Did you really think I would go that far, eh?” Floki sings from the hallway.
“Floki—I’m standing,” Ivar says in disbelief. “You have to call Hvitserk,” He adds.
“My phone is a bit busy right now,” Floki hums, and you notice then, where his bag sits abandoned in his chair, his phone sits just outside of it, propped up, and recording.

Tumblr media
You watch horrified at the tree line as these men and women clean their wounds from a battle with your family’s army.  It was almost a beautiful dance to watch them.  There was no one left, besides yourself, and you didn't know what to do.  A man stands up quickly, squinting his eyes in your direction before he gives you a maniacal smile.  His boney finger pointing in your direction as he sprints towards you.
His war paint bloodied and smeared giving him a hellish appearance, and you turn fleeing.  Stupidly looking behind you to see his long strides gaining on you.  For every step he takes you were taking seven.  You trip over a log, and struggle to right yourself up.  He was almost on you.  His skeletal hand reaches towards you, and you scream.
The man’s companion’s ears perk up on the beach, as he searches for his best friend.  “Where did Floki run off to?” He slaps at someone’s arm.
“He saw something in the woods, and did his strange laugh before running in that direction.”
Ragnar stares out over their winning battle.  Grabbing up his sword, he goes into the direction that Floki had run off to.  It was never a good thing when Floki got his wild eyes about him.  Almost gliding through the woods, at the same time that you were screaming for your life.
The man wickedly laughs as you get slowed down from a branch clinging to your cloak, “Stop you beastly!” His hand reaches out circling around your wrist, and you try to get out of his embrace.
“Don’t eat me,” that laugh, again.  A high pitched snicker, and it makes you sick to your stomach.
“I don’t eat children without seasoning them first,” you scream again, trying to jerk yourself out of his reach.  “Where are you going to go, beastly?”
“Floki,” sunlight always seemed to shine on the newcomer as he walks closer to you.  His hair long and braided but the splatters of blood was greater than that of Floki’s.  “What do you have here?”
“This little beastly was spying on us,” you shake your head rapidly.  Your breathing picks up, and you try to jerk away.  “Would you stop it?  Ragnar, can we keep her?” you start to cry, and flinch away from him.
“Don’t show your fear, little one.  If you are to die, you welcome it, and die with honor,” he tilts his head looking at you, and pushing off your hood, smiling at the small tiara that sits on your head, “What have we here?  You’re royal?”
“N-n-no.”
“Lies.  Why are you scared?”
“Vikings eat children,” Floki looks over at Ragnar with his sadistic laugh, pointing over at you.  “I don’t want to be seasoned.”
Ragnar lifts up your arm, patting at your hip, he pulls out a bejeweled knife, “Didn’t think of using this on Floki, huh?” You shake your head no, taking a step away from him, but Floki pulls you back.
“The King is talking to you.  Have respect,” Ragnar gives you a kind smile, despite his soiled skin.  “Can we keep her?”
“How old are you, child?” Ragnar’s piercing eyes bore into your soul, and you try to stop your tears.  “A child of about ten?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Hmm, doesn’t Barnes have a son of that age?”
Floki laughs again, nodding his head, “Twelve.”
“Bring her with us.  I should like to have a daughter again.  Follow me.  You’ll learn the ways of the Aesir.  Train you to be a warrior instead of just a damsel in distress,” Floki tugs you towards him, but you put up more of a fight, screaming for him to let you go.  “See, just like that.  You’re not just a spoiled princess.  I could always eat you,” Ragnar smiles at you, but you still try to pull away.
“Do not fight it, hmm…Aesir, seems fitting.  You know nothing of a fight, and we will overpower you quickly.  You will train and learn.  Bucky should be your partner, so you’re never alone.  Children as young as you have already gotten their first scars.  You are behind, Aesir,” you let out a growl, causing Floki’s annoying laugh to sound through the woods.  “Save your aggression for training.  I won’t hesitate to use your bones as a toothpick.  You were a princess, but you will become a warrior goddess. “
Tumblr media
You scowl over Ragnar, letting your sword slump to the ground, and Bucky throws his hands up, “She’s spoiled.”
“She is,” Ragnar agrees, smiling at you.  He leans casually up against a fence, fascinated by your lack of training.
“She’s useless.”
“Hey!” You shout, and sling your sword at him.  “I didn’t ask to be here.  I didn’t ask to know you,” each sentence, you swing the sword at him.  “I didn’t ask to be a warrior.”
“Because you’re a stupid girl.”
“I am not!  I will be like Lagertha.  Take it back,” Ragnar’s smile gets larger as Bucky blocks every one of your attempts of attack.  But this was the first time you had shown any fire behind your eyes.  Admitting your desire to be like your adoptive mother.
“I am Aesir!”  Your voice was proud and strong, and Ragnar hadn’t ever seen that in you before.  You were becoming the girl he always knew you could. He leans a bit closer on the fence, wanting to see how this played out.
“You’re not a god.  You’re a spoiled brat,” with another yell, you charge towards Bucky, knocking him to the ground, and crawling over top of him.  Hands tight around his neck, and Ragnar only laughs.
“The child has no discipline,” Floki admits, watching the two of you.
“She’s only been training for a few months.  Bucky has trained his whole life,” Bucky looks over towards the men, sighing as he twists you around pinning you to the ground.
“Don’t do that again,” his steel blue eyes glare at you, and he clenches his teeth.
“Get off!”
“Why?  So you can run into the house and cry?” Your eyes fill with tears, and your lip trembles.  “Just what I thought.”
“Aesir, use your anger,” Ragnar tells you.  You look over in his direction, and nod, understanding.  You kick your foot up, knocking Bucky on the head, “There ya go.  See?  She just needs some…finessing.  It’s in her.  She’s special.  Named her as such.  Daughter of Thor, placed right at our fingertips.  It is our responsibility to make her a fierce warrior.  To cause fear at the sound of her name.  And look at them.  They love to hate each other.”
Ragnar fancied you to be Thor’s own daughter, and he was the one tasked with getting you into Valhalla.  He took this job seriously, and wanted you to die as a true Viking.  But so far, you were proving to be of little use.  But you would be.
It was true, yours and Bucky’s relationship wasn’t normal.  You claimed to hate the boy, but you looked forward to when his dad would drag him to you.  Leaving Bucky for the day as Ragnar oversaw the two of you.  “Maybe she would be better suited for a bow?  Or maybe she possesses power.”
“Or maybe she’s spoiled, and you don’t know how to handle her.”
“Then, we must break her.  Start fresh and new, but,” he points over to you and Bucky, you had him on the ground again.  “She is learning.  How about we trust her.”
Tumblr media
“I don’t want to marry him, though,” you slam a bowl onto the table as you hear the news of your partner in crime and best friend.  “It’s disgusting.  I don’t even want kids.”
“Nonsense!” Ragnar goes on his tirade.  “Even Lagertha gave me children.  You are almost of age, and you will make Bucky a happy man.  Your little godlike children growing up in the ways of Vikings, as they should.  It’s done.  His father agreed to it long ago, I’m just now bringing it up.”
“I don’t want to marry him.”
“Consider it, then.  It is a good match.  It’s not like you haven’t rolled around with him before.  The two of you have been pinning each other for years,” your adoptive brother, Bjorn, chuckles, and you smack him in the back of his head.  “You deserved that.  At least she has someone that will marry her.”
“Bucky doesn’t want to marry me, either.”
“No, she’s been looking at,” you smack him in the back of the head again, and Ragnar smiles, leaning back in his chair.  Even Lagertha stops braiding your hair, leaning over your shoulder.
“Who are you looking at, Aesir?” Her mouth turns up in a smile, and she winks at you.  She had already caught you staring at him.
“No one.  Why must I get married?”
“Because, it is what is done.  You marry to further your line.  You should be honored to be chosen for Bucky,” you slap Lagertha’s hand away and storm out of your home.  “She’s acting like the spoiled child we brought here.”
“She’s developed a crush on Ari,” Ragnar shrugs.  Ari wasn’t a bad choice either.  Although there has been talks of you and Bucky for years.  Everyone in the kingdom knew that you were to marry Bucky.
“It’s odd that man hasn’t chosen a wife.”
“He’s chosen some women,” your brother laughs.  “Bucky is better suited.  She couldn’t handle Ari.”
“Your sister could handle anyone should she want to.  Do not doubt her powers.  She has bested you a few times.  But her and Bucky — it just makes sense, doesn’t it?  Maybe she just needs to blow off some steam with Ari.”
“She needs something.  She’s still uptight.  Maybe she’s right.  Bucky does have a wandering eye, and smiles at everyone.  Maybe your plan to create the next Ragnar and Lagertha is ill fated, father,” Bjorn grabs up his things, heading out for the day.
“Maybe we should invite this Ari over,” Ragnar now the one to jump up, and head toward the door, being stopped by his wife.  “What?”
“Promising her to two men?  Seems a bit preconceived.  Give her and Bucky time.”
“If she likes this Ari, she should have him.  I’m just helping out our daughter,” and this is when your life started changing drastically.  Never to remain the same again.  Because Ari was also looking, and that terrified you enough to be honest with Bucky.

The front door slammed behind you, shaking the frame with the force of your push and you heard the voices from the other room dwindle to nothing. Ragnar called your name but you ignored him as you took the stairs two at a time. You were in the house, what more did he want? Pausing by your bedroom, you heard Halfdan begin to make his way up the stairs when he was stopped by a panting Hvitserk.
“I wouldn’t. Just leave her alone,” he gasped.
“I want to check on her Hvitserk, nothing more.”
“Trust me." You could imagine him doubled over in a pair of joggers that were kept out in the shed for emergencies. “She’s in a mood. She just power walked all the way here and didn’t even break a sweat. I’m worn out.” Halfdan slapped Hvitserk’s bare shoulder and you heard the smile in his voice.
“So it’s you that grew soft, not her.”
“She didn’t change?” You heard Floki’s voice, calm but still inquisitive.
“She refused. I tried,” Hvitserk huffed.
“Who would want to run with you anyway, huh?” You smirked a tiny bit at Ivar’s comment. His cane thumped loudly on the wooden floorboards as he made his way to his room. “Now she’s home and I’m going to bed.” Softly you closed your door as the rest of the pack determined who was staying up to keep watch. To keep you safe.
Throwing yourself onto the covers, you buried your face into the pillow. You wish you’d never opened your big mouth, but only time would tell if you were right or not.
Tumblr media
The morning was cool, dew clung to every surface, wetting the soles of your feet as you stepped outside. The dawn was banishing the night and you scented the air. Aside from your coffee, you could smell Ubbe and Björn a bit farther out. You couldn’t stand still, a restlessness had taken over your body, agitating your limbs and you knew why. You wanted to run. Your wolf was asking to be released, she knew she was home and safe and she wanted to be set free.
“Fine, fine!” You muttered, putting your half empty coffee cup down and removing your hoodie. Slipping off your joggers, you dived behind a bush but nothing happened. Quickly shedding the rest of your clothes you awkwardly crouched on the cold ground. “Come on!” You could feel your wolf but you struggled to connect with her, to reach across the void and touch her soft fur. Closing your eyes, you concentrated, imagining what you looked like when you were her. Your eyes bright green, your downy fur rippling in the breeze, paws the size of dishes…
Eventually your back arched as pain lanced through your body. Throwing your head back you felt your teeth grow unnaturally fast, your ribs broke and moved with earth shattering pops and cracks. Your fingers shortened, the bones themselves changing shape as whatever magic you were connected to threaded purposefully through your body. Your spine elongated, fur sprouted over your skin, feeling each pinprick as it rolled in waves over your form. Your legs snapped, your knees forming the other way and you snarled, followed by a yelp as the pain reached a peak before melting away like it had never happened.
You were huge and powerful in this form. The pads of your paws dug into the soft ground as you sprinted from a standstill towards the trees. The wind rippled through your fur, brushing you with chilled, welcoming fingers. You turned, movement racing toward you from the shadow of the trees and you feinted, only to sink your teeth into Ubbe’s neck. His wolf yipped in surprise as you both rolled on the grass from his momentum. You stopped, your forelegs over his body and your jaws held onto him for a second with a warning snarl before releasing him. You tried to go back to running but he barked at you, his eyes wide as he waved his tail high in the air. Rolling your eyes in a very un-wolflike gesture, you shook your head only for him to yip loudly at you again.
Lifting your nose to the breeze when it shifted, you sneezed at the awful smell and even Ubbe stopped mucking around. You let loose a deep howl - a howl to say you’d found something. Ubbe stayed close, protectively watching your back as you searched for the source of the smell. The smell of death.
Tumblr media
It took an hour to follow the scent on the changing breeze, but the closer you got, the heavier the dread became. The smell was thick and cloying, sweet and rancid at the same time. You tried to breathe through your mouth but that was just as bad, the dense odor filling your senses. Ubbe started to gag, his lips pulled back from his teeth as he made a loud noise from the back of his throat. You heard a braying howl, but you couldn’t respond, the idea of sucking in a deep breath now made you want to be sick.
You saw the hand poking out from under some leaves, your ears pricking forward and then flicking side to side as you listened. There wasn’t anyone else out here and Ubbe was wearily watching a few paces away, a quiet whine of warning escaping his mouth. Trying to ignore the acrid stench of death, you sniffed deeply against the ground. Picking apart the scents in your mind, you could tell other animals had come to investigate. The musky scent of another wolf was weak and the particular aroma wouldn’t click with anything in your memory. Cautiously you approached, your hackles on end and you snarled deeply in your chest when you saw it was a young girl. She was half buried in the earth and from what you could see, she was mid change. Her eyes open and glassy as she stared at the ever brightening sky, bones twisted unnaturally. Her jaw looked broken and half her teeth were clearly wolf fangs. Trotting back over to Ubbe, feeling sick to your stomach, all you could do was wait.
Soon Ragnar, Harald and Floki arrived in human form. Hvitserk, Björn and Halfdan joined quickly in wolf form. Hvitserk was beside you in an instant, his protective nature out in full force as he nearly knocked you off your paws. Snapping angrily, your teeth flashed in the light and he dropped to his belly. Ragnar growled at you both, his eyes completely violet, and you put your teeth away. Tentatively, he reached for your broad, wedge shaped head, his fingers resting just between your lowered ears as you gazed up at him.
“Well done, hunulv,” he mumbled. “Go back to the house and wait for us there. All of you.”
You didn’t need to be told twice. Turning tail, you ran. The others crowded you, their shoulders bumping yours as they surrounded you, keeping you in the middle. Björn was the largest, his pale fur and golden eyes cutting an impressive figure as he led the way back to the house. Hvitserk and Halfdan were either side of you while Ubbe covered you all from behind. You were getting tired and the run was long. The brothers set a steady pace but you were unused to running for so long in this form. Your front paw gave way and you ungracefully planted your snout in the ground. A chorus of amused yips ripped into the quiet air. Snapping peevishly, you limped back across the grass, Hvitserk using his warm body to hold you up as you made your way up the stone steps to the kitchen.
“No wolves in the house, huh? Have you forgotten the rules?” Ivar yelled from the doorway. “Go sleep it off somewhere else, yndling.” You eyed him for a moment, knowing how easy it would be to make him unsteady on his legs. But as soon as the thought formed, you let it go. Ivar wasn’t below tussling with a tired wolf on the ground and he’d probably win anyway. With a sigh you collapsed just to the side of the door, exhaustion making your eyes close. A body settled down next to you, panting heavily from the run as he watched out for danger and you knew Hvitserk wasn’t going to leave your side no matter what. You felt the others gather around and you sighed in their comforting scents. Snuggling down in the mass of fur and heaving breaths, you felt the happiest you had since you left.
Tumblr media
The first thing you became aware of was your hunger.
You were human, your curling toes and reaching fingers told you that. Groaning, you snuggled deeply into the embrace of someone warm, pressing your face into their firm chest and listening to their accelerated heart rate.
For a moment, it felt like the last 18 months hadn’t happened and you were back here where you belonged. His chest rose against you, lips trailing delicately over your hairline as he breathed you in. Smiling to yourself you curled further into him, enjoying the heat of his body along yours. Excitement blossomed in your chest at the way his soft lips ghosted down the side of your face. Tilting your head back you could sense his lips hovering over yours, such a tender action that had you wanting to reach those last few millimetres and taste him.
But your stomach rumbled loudly and it seemed to slap some sense into you. Snatching back your naked limbs, you forced your eyes open and clutched at the blanket that had been draped over you both.
“Ubbe put it over you,” Hvitserk said as he rolled onto his back, staring up at the blue sky and watching wisps of clouds pass over. He lay with one hand behind his head, his other resting on his bare chest, and you settled back down. The stone floor wasn’t uncomfortable, you’d slept on worse. Slowly, he turned to look at you, his gaze earnest and you could see he was doing everything possible not to frighten you away. Your breath hitched in your throat, the familiar sensation of desire curled up from your gut and you just hoped he couldn’t smell it on you.
“Where is everyone?” You whispered.
“Downstairs,” he replied quietly. His pupils blew wide as the scent of your arousal clouded his senses and he swore. His hand fisted tightly on his chest. “I’m trying here. but you’re drowning me, min elskede.” He sounded strained. Even with the usual softness he always spoke with, you could hear the need behind his words. You wouldn’t admit it, but right now all you wanted was him and it confused you. Your feelings for Nick, the tense joy you felt from being home mixed with your unfinished feelings for Hvitserk that all still gathered inside you.
“Then stop breathing,” you snarled weakly. Snatching the blanket off him, you walked byinside and grabbed a sandwich off the table before retreating upstairs to get changed.
Tumblr media
You always hated going down into the basement. It was where Ragnar kept the cage that you’d spent the first of your days as a werewolf.
You could hear Ragnar speaking and he sounded pissed. You forced yourself down the stairs to see that the whole pack had gathered. Ubbe and Björn stood with their arms crossed and matching miserable faces as Ragnar tore them a new one. How did they not notice someone dumping a dead body on our lands? What were they doing all night? He didn’t even give them a chance to answer as he paced slowly before them, his body portraying exactly how angry he was with jerky hand movements. Hvitserk glanced at you, but he looked just as angry at his brothers as Ragnar did. Harald stood watching the oldest Lothbrok boys be put in their place, a not so kind smirk lighting up his face. Ivar sat on the table, picking at his nail, having no interest in what was happening while Halfdan, Sigurd and Floki were whispering in the corner. Halfdan beckoned you over and you pulled away from Hvitserk to join them.
“What did you smell?” Floki asked, his voice hushed.
“A wolf had been there, but no scent that I recognised. It was weak. And the body was still half buried, she’d been in the ground a few days at least.”
“Similar to the last one,” Sigurd whispered. Frowning you glanced at him, his green eyes narrowing slightly. “What?”
“The last one was buried too? So someone is coming onto our land and burying these bodies and letting them surface a few days later when their scent is weak.” Shaking your head you tapped the corner of your mouth. “This is too well planned for an útlagi.”
“I have to agree,” Floki sighed.
“Werewolves have survived for centuries without female wolves, what’s the fascination now?” You pondered aloud, glancing up to find all their eyes on you. Sigurd’s uneven gaze slid to his brother over your shoulder and you knew the answer, but Ragnar broke up your little gathering.
“What can you tell me, hunulv?”
“Not a lot,” you confessed. “But I do think a meeting with this new pack should happen sooner rather than later.” Ragnar nodded, swiping a hand over his face and dragging at his bottom lip.
“Harald, Halfdan, Björn, Sigurd and Ivar stay here. I’ll take Hvitserk, Ubbe and Floki with me. Are you all right to come? Maybe you can smell something familiar.” Nodding, you nibbled at your bottom lip, casting a worried glance at Floki, but he just smiled encouragingly at you. It had been ages since you’d been embroiled in anything like this and you were worried about being the weak link within the group.
“Shit,” you hissed, pulling your phone from your pocket and frowning at the empty screen. Nothing. Not a single phone call or text from Nick. “I have to make a quick phone call,” you mumbled. Racing up the stairs you dialed his phone only to get voicemail. Bursting into the sunshine outside you tried again. “Come on, Nick.” Voicemail. This wasn’t right, something in your gut told you this was very wrong. Turning on your heel, you slammed into Hvitserk as he exited the front door, his hands flying to catch you but your senses shattered at the close scent of him. The richness of his wolf still clinging to him after this morning, mixed with the freshness of the soil and the lushness of woodland. Reeling from walking into him, you held onto his forearms, your phone pressing heavily into your palm.
“Nick isn’t picking up his phone. It’s past 10am Hvitserk and I haven’t heard from him.”
“He’s probably in a grump because you weren’t there when he woke up,” he reassured you, but you shook your head and ignored the bitterness that laced Hvitserk’s tone.
“No, that doesn’t sound like Nick. He’d blow up my phone first, find out where I was…” Moving away, you dialed again but it went straight to voicemail. You gazed at Hvitserk with pleading eyes and he sighed, exhaling through his nose just as Ragnar emerged.
“What’s wrong?”
“Can we swing by the hotel in town first? I need to check on Nick.” You hated the whine in your voice as you begged your alpha for permission. “He’s not answering and I feel like something is wrong. Ragnar, please?” You heard the way his teeth slid over themselves, but still he managed to give you a forced smile.
“Make sure he’s ok and we’ll meet you at the edge of our property. Hvitserk…” You were already moving, your faithful shadow jumping up beside you in the truck as you turned the key. Gravel kicked up under the wide tires as you sped away but you didn’t care. All you could think about was Nick and seeing him with your own two eyes.
Tumblr media
Approaching the door of the hotel you paused, throwing a hand out to stop Hvitserk. Sniffing the air, you could smell yours and Hvitserk's faded trail from last night. And someone else's. Turning on the spot, you tried to get your bearings but the car park had been driven through and walked over too much this morning.
“I can smell Nick, but I don’t know if it’s from yesterday or if he followed us last night.”
“Let’s go and ask him shall we?” Looking up you saw his room window was still open from where you’d jumped out and a dark sense of foreboding settled over you. Entering the hotel through the back door you heard the kitchens were in full swing, the smell of breakfast still being cooked covered nearly everything else. Hvitserk was right behind you going up the stairs, his hands either side of you as though he could protect you. Listening against the room door you heard nothing.
“Don’t…!” Hvitserk tried to stop you, but you shoved the door open, bursting into the room.
“Nick?” The covers on the bed were tusselled, clothes discarded on the floor, his suitcase open on the chair. You walked into the bathroom only to find that empty. “Damn. Fuck.” Hvitserk stood by the desk, his fingertips holding down the piece of paper you’d written on yesterday, your message clearly on display.
“He’s not here,” he stated stiffly.
“Clearly. Do you think he went into town or…” you walked to the bed and sniffed. “No, no no.” Ducking down you trailed your nose along the covers.
“Found something?”
“I—,” inhaling deeper you growled. “I need to change for this.”
“I’ll wait outside.” Without another word he left, closing the door softly behind him.
“Ok…ok.” You’d only changed an hour or so ago. Changing again, so close together, was a risk for you. You shut the window before stripping, placing your clothes neatly in the bathroom before you knelt down on the cold floor. “I can do this…I’ve got this,” you whispered. But nothing happened. Your wolf was quiet, resting after the exertion of this morning. “Please. I need you.” Delving deep inside, you dredged up what you so desperately needed.
Panic erupted on your chest, stealing your breath with a rough gasp.
He’s gone. Nick's gone. Someone took him. They took him.
Your mind went into overdrive, images of Nick dead somewhere on Lothbrok land had your heart ricocheting in your chest and the wolf came alive. The change, fueled by the panic you’d been keeping locked away, raced over your body. You felt the pain much more keenly than you did this morning, manifesting in your throat as a rippling snarl. Eventually it was over but the exhaustion you felt was awful, bogging down your entire body and you stumbled on all four feet. But the world came alive at the end of your nose; Hvitserk’s intoxicating scent was so strong you tried to exhale it back out as a hacking sneeze. Moving past the door you buried your nose in the covers, smelling Nick and yourself faintly. If the stupid window hadn’t been open the scents would be stronger unless…he really did leave last night.
Snuffling loudly, you heaved your front legs up onto the bed, smelling the patch that had grabbed your interest as a human. It was faint but it was there. It matched the trail by the hotel backdoor and the memory of that wolf watching you yesterday rose to the surface. His short hair and silver flashing eyes had you growling. Dropping back to the floor you released your tired wolf, slumping onto your side once the change was done. The door opened but your eyes were so heavy you could barely keep them open.
“I got you, elskede. I got you.”
Tumblr media
Jolting awake, the water around you sloshed wildly and you clutched the side of the bath. You were still in the hotel room, your clothes neatly stacked where you’d left them. Relaxing slightly you caught the sound of Hvitserk in the other room, but it was the smell of food that had you groaning. You heard him scoff a little laugh and imagined the way he smirked at the sound of you, licking the corner of his mouth because his tongue was always out of his mouth like the animal he was. A cup of coffee appeared around the doorframe.
“Can I bring this in?” He asked.
“How long was I asleep for? Shouldn’t we be meeting Ragnar?”
“About 20 minutes, I rang him. They’re waiting for us.”
“Shit. Shit.” Hauling yourself from the warm water you grabbed a towel and snatched the coffee. You dried off and quickly redressed, still doing up your jeans as you walked into the bedroom.
“Eat this. You’re no good to us if you drop from hunger.” Shovelling food into your mouth, you jigged on the spot at how good it tasted. Sausages, bacon, scrambled egg. You didn’t care how you looked as you tore into it all. “Still don’t like tomatoes,” Hvitserk observed quietly.
“Why you bothered to even put it on the plate astounds me,” you muttered. “What did you do anyway? Raid the kitchen?”
“I told them my newly pregnant wife was a monster and she needed whatever they had left over. The chef couldn’t have been helpful enough.”
“Wow. You’re an ass.”
“You've called me worse,” he grumbled as he looked out of the window. Looking around, you saw Hvitserk had packed Nick’s things and the suitcase stood by the door ready to go. Checking your phone you saw there was still nothing from him.
“Someone’s taken him, Hvitserk.” Your voice dipped with emotion. This was the last thing you’d ever wanted, to drag Nick or anyone else into your hideous, hidden world.
“I’m sorry, min skat. It looks that way.” His matter of fact attitude made you dump the plate down with a clatter. You felt your anger rising, ready to thunder from your body.
“You don’t sound sorry!” You snapped, showing your teeth in your distress. Hvitserk turned to watch you dab tears from your lashes as you glared furiously at him. “I suppose this is what you wanted, for him to disappear!” A sob chased your words. As much as you tried to find the fault with Hvitserk, you knew it sat with you alone. “Oh god, oh god! What if he’s dead? What am I going to tell his family?”
“Hey! Stop this!” Hvitserk’s hands were firm on your shoulders and he gave you a small shake. “We don’t know for sure…”
“You’d like that though. You’d like it if he was just no more...”
“No!” He snarled, his eyes glowed for a moment as his fingers pressed into your skin. “You are hurting and I would never wish that on you. Elskede,” his expression grew pained. “If he…I will do whatever I can to bring him back to you in one piece.” You could hear the effort it took him to say those words to you. Gently untangling yourself and wiping your face, you finally gathered yourself together.
“We should go. We’ve got a pack to meet.”
Tumblr media
You spent the whole journey trying not to think the worst, but all you could see was Nick somewhere dark not knowing what was happening, blaming you. You knew you were wrong for taking it out on Hvitserk but in your mind all of this led to him anyway. The world blurred past you, a smattering of trees and fields as you moved closer to the unknown. You tried all your old tricks, but nothing calmed you down and you were dragged into a spiral of what had happened the last time you faced the unknown.
“Oh, wow. You live here?” You gasped as the house came into view. Hvitserk pulled the truck to a stop in the driveway and stared up at the huge building.
“Grew up here, me and my brothers.” Tugging at your sleeve, you grimaced nervously. “What’s wrong?”
“I’ve never met anyone's parents before,” you whispered, finishing with a nervous laugh. “Stupid, isn’t it?” Hvitserk leaned towards you, his hand cupping your chin and stealing your attention.
“Ragnar is going to love you, trust me. We could do with a woman around the house.” Resting your forehead against his, you sighed quietly.
“Ok. I’m ready.” The grin that broke out across his face was one of pure joy and he pressed a swift kiss to your lips. His hand was warm in your grip. It was something you'd noticed early on. Hvitserk always seemed so much warmer than you, like your own personal space heater.
The stone steps that led to the house were worn and the bushes that stood proudly either side of the door were cut into the shape of wolf heads. You reached out to toy with the lush green leaves.
“Ubbe is the artistic one,” Hvitserk breathed into your ear as he watched you admire them.
“I’ve seen you’re a decent painter,” you told him coyly and he smiled at your reaction. His hand curled over your cheek as he kissed you, a soft moan falling from his mouth as though he couldn’t help himself. The front door swung open and you gasped at the sight of a huge carved wooden wolf in the hallway.
“Told you Ubbe was the creative one.”
“He made this?” You asked in disbelief as you crossed over the threshold. Your eyes were wide as you stepped up to the carving, barely seeing the other pictures that lined the walls or the rounded, sweeping staircase.
“Took him a few weeks,” Hvitserk murmured as he came up behind you, wrapping his arms around you and burying his face in your neck. “You smell divine, kæreste.”
“Pretty sure I still smell like you,” your whisper almost seemed to echo in the wide foyer and Hvitserk tensed slightly against you.
“Sit in here,” he said, guiding you to a large room with a plush sofa and a desk. There were a couple of armchairs scattered near the fireplace and large old style windows lined the outer walls. “I’ll get us some drinks and see if I can find Ragnar.” He kissed your forehead and pulled the door shut behind him, leaving you alone in the silent room.
You tried to rid yourself of the nervous butterflies by walking around the space, eyeing one large painting of a dark woodland where it was all shadows and moonlight. Trailing your fingers along the edge of the desk, you paused to look at the sizable hunting knife that was displayed proudly on a stand, sheathed in leather. You wondered how sharp it was and nearly picked it up when the door opened behind you.
Turning on the spot, you gulped down a breath as you were pinned in place with an intense pair of blue eyes. He seemed totally taken aback by the fact you were there and he tried to hide it with a forced grin.
“Hello,” he said with uncertainty, his hand still resting on the door handle. He glanced around the room and to your amusement he even looked behind the door.
“Hi.” You pushed out a rushed introduction, assuming this was Ragnar. His smile was big, but it didn’t reach his eyes and he approached you almost cautiously. As soon as his rough hand met yours, the heat of his skin was noticeable and you wondered how him and Hvitserk weren’t permanently sweating.
“I’m going to assume one of my sons brought you. Where is Hvitserk?” Your eyes widened. You hadn't realized Hvitserk had spoken about you to his family yet.
“Oh! He went to find you. I didn’t…he told me he hadn’t told anyone just yet.” Ragnar exhaled in a short burst through his nose, the strained smile tugging at the corner of his mouth and he shook his head slightly.
“He didn’t.”
“I’m sorry this is such a surprise,” you mumbled, twisting your hands together. All you had to do was make Ragnar like you and you were even failing at that. “I’m no good at this,” you confessed. “I’ve never met anyone's parents before.” Suddenly it felt like Ragnar was scrutinising you, his blue gaze a fierce shadow as it raked over you before he ushered you to a seat. His smile was hitched back up, but still there was something in his demeanour that put you on edge.
“Relax, let me check on Hvitserk and the refreshments.” You let out a measured breath, tapping your leg. Your nerves seemed to double as soon as he left the room. Considering Hvitserk had told you all about his family and how large it was, the house was eerily quiet and you wondered where everyone was.
A loud thump startled you, followed by a soft dragging sound and you leapt from the chair with your back against the wall. It was stupid and irrational but you felt like your nerves were on fire as you stood there, alone in that office. The door swung open to reveal a younger man, his storm blue eyes no less devastating than Ragnar’s. He had leg braces on and his hair was longer than Hvitserk’s, cascading over his shoulder as he turned to face you. Immediately, his face split into a wicked grin, his nose flared for a second and he slumped towards you with the cane holding him up.
“Who might you be, huh?” He demanded, his icy blue eyes not sparing any part of you as he looked you up and down. “You smell like my brother.” Frowning at the odd comment you swallowed. This must be Ivar. You said your name, aware of the tightness in your hands as you clutched them together. He opened his mouth to reply, but his head swiveled towards the door. Anger flared across his features at the sight of a huge wolf-like dog nosing its way through the door. You smiled. You loved animals and the bigger the dog the better.
“Is he friendly?” You asked, but Ivar didn’t take his eyes off the animal.
“Overly so.”
“Hey big guy!” You breathed, crouching down as the dog slinked towards you. His eyes were a rich orange colour, something you’d never really seen in a dog before. Reaching out, you ran your hands through his thick fur. The dark brown colouring was broken up with flecks of grey and he sighed as you stroked the large wedge shaped head. “Oh you’re gorgeous aren’t you?”
“Don’t give him an ego boost,” Ivar muttered. Moving your hand to scratch under his chin, you smiled at the way his bright eyes rolled. His tongue lolled out of his mouth and his tail thumped against the wooden desk. Looking up, you spotted Ragnar entering the room, his expression furious as he stared at the dog. Slowly he put down the tray of cups, holding out a hand he beckoned to you.
“Come away from him,” he uttered softly but your joyful smile dipped at his tone.
“I thought he was friendly?” You cast a glance at Ivar who wouldn’t take his eyes off the massive dog.
“Sometimes aggressively friendly,” Ragnar muttered as he inched towards you. “Just come away from him, please.” Giving the dog one last scratch under the chin, you stood. Before anyone could react the dog pulled his lips back, teeth clamped down on your hand and you screeched at the sensation. Ivar swore loudly, but it was Ragnar who moved. He grabbed the dog around the neck and hauled it up with a show of impressive strength, matching the rumbling snarls the dog was emitting. Backing away, you stumbled into Ivar’s arms. He grabbed your wrist and held up your hand that was bleeding profusely.
“Don’t hurt him!” You shouted. “It was my fault. I shouldn’t have gone near him!”
“You’re a fucking idiot, Hvitserk. Look at what you have done.” Ragnar forced the dog to face you, his forelegs still off the ground and his mouth pulled back in an aggressive snarl. But his eyes were brimming with an intelligence you hadn’t noticed before. Swooning slightly, you sagged in Ivar’s grasp.
“Must be shock,” you mumbled. Ivar managed to steer you into the armchair one handed. He held up your hand and glanced gravely at Ragnar.
“There’s no coming back from this,” he stated.
“It’s just a bite. I’ll be fine,” you tried to say but your mouth felt thick. Your tongue was heavy as it tingled in your mouth, your lips felt like rubber and breathing was becoming difficult. “I don’t understand. What’s happening?” You desperately wanted to form words but they just came out as a groan. Nothing in your body would respond and your eyes began to close. The last thing you heard was the soft whine that emitted from the dog as he tried to fight his way to you.
Tumblr media
Breaking from your reverie, you saw a house appear before you. It was nowhere near as impressive as your pack house. This one was more modern, with a large lawn that led to the edges of the woodland your pack owned. They really were pushing it with Ragnar, settling right on the border. Stepping out of the truck, you took a deep breath, but it was like a cacophony of noise at the end of your nose. It would take you a while to pick apart those scents, or your wolf form to get a more accurate feel. This house was busy.
Looking around, you noticed the out buildings set away from the house. The driveway swept from the front of the house and led right to the doors, but they didn’t look like garages. You barely noticed Hvitserk crowding behind you, his head moving from side to side as he assessed for any threats. Ragnar was at the front of the group and you fanned out on either side of him as the door opened. You and Hvitserk stood on your alpha’s right with Ubbe and Floki on his left.
Lifting your nose subtly into the breeze, you caught a sniff of something familiar, but it was covered by a multitude of other complicated scents and you growled softly in frustration, not noticing the other alpha had come out to greet you all.
“Welcome! We have been expecting you for some time!” He announced with arms spread wide and a friendly grin. His grey eyes looked over the group before they came to settle on you. At first you tried to ignore him, but he was walking towards you like he was in a trance. Hvitserk pressed in beside you, his warning snarls loud enough for everyone to hear as they stormed from his chest. At the last second Ragnar subtly stepped in the other alphas path, covering you with one half of his body.
“I’m not sure I could hold my son back from killing you if you got any closer, Ecbert.”
“Forgive me. But she is a miracle, is she not?” He covered his bearded chin with praying hands. “I had no idea she was mated already. Please! Come in!”
Mated? The term made your insides curl up, but you couldn’t tell if it was in annoyance or something more comforting.
“Sit. Make yourselves comfortable. You are safe here.” Ragnar sat himself down on the available sofa with Floki beside him while you, Ubbe and Hvitserk chose to stand. Glancing at Hvitserk, you could see he was stressed. Anger was etched all over his face and his arms were crossed in his traditional aggravated stance.
The three of you tensed and looked toward the door as it opened to reveal a young man with shoulder length dark hair and startling green-grey eyes that darted over the gathering.
“I’m sorry, grandfather. I didn’t realise we had company.” You hated the way his voice seemed to blanket over the group in a pleasing way. He spoke so clearly and his accent interested you more than it should.
“Alfred, my dear boy, this is Ragnar from the pack on our border. With Floki,” Ecbert pointed at you all individually, narrowing his eyes as he revealed he knew who all of you were. “Ubbe and Hvitserk, some of Ragnar’s sons." His eyes landed in your, lingering. "And Hvitserk’s mate.” You thought Alfred’s head was going to fall off his shoulders at the mention of you. His eyes grew wide as he looked back at Ecbert in disbelief.
“So it’s true?” Rolling your eyes, you attempted to look uninterested.
“I think we need to discuss the proximity of our packs rather than my son’s recklessness,” Ragnar stated as he sat forward, his hands coming together.
“We apologise if it seems we are muscling in. But houses that meet a pack's needs are hard to find. Are they not?” Ecbert replied with a bland smile. Reaching forward, Ragnar took an apple off the coffee table and began to shift it from hand to hand.
“We have had some unfortunate events arise on our land since you arrived.”
Ecbert shook his head and leaned back into the cushions, crossing his legs and spreading his arms along the back of the sofa.
“I read about that on the news. Such a tragic affair. I hope not too much attention was brought to your door?” Ubbe scoffed quietly and scratched his chin. You were already overstimulated and the loud rasp of his beard against his fingers almost made you growl in annoyance.
“No. And we managed to move the second body before humans stumbled upon it,” Floki spoke up.
“Another one?” Ecbert did a good job of seeming surprised, his eyebrows shooting up and his brow wrinkled. “Do you have any idea who is doing such a barbaric thing?”
“Not yet,” Ragnar sighed. “But we are close.” Staring at a point on the far wall, you tried to concentrate, listening for anyone else in the house or a scent that you recognised, but your senses came back with nothing.
“Well, my son and his sons are at your disposal if you need any help at all. I’d rather we band together and figure this out to save us all being discovered.” As he spoke you were aware of his gaze falling on you once again. “How did you do it?” Ragnar turned to look at you, his expression unreadable and you knew he didn’t want to discuss it with you in the room. He never did.
“She’s the strongest person I know,” he said softly. “Her sheer will alone kept her alive. And the desire to teach my son a lesson.” Ecbert chuckled, slapping his knee at the joke but he wasn’t done with the current topic.
“Do you think the strays are trying to achieve what you have? Wolves so desperate for a mate that is their equal?”
“We keep a close eye on the útlagis,” Floki said. “And none of them in this area have been near our land.”
“Interesting,” Ecbert murmured. “Alfred? Where is your father?”
“Out running, grandfather.”
“Hmmm. Maybe introductions should wait until next time.” The alphas stood up in unison, with Floki copying the movement. The dismissal from the older alpha was evident. “It was a pleasure to meet you, Ragnar. Maybe next time we could have a meeting with everyone. I’d love to hear the story on how you managed to have so many sons.” Ragnar took his hand and clapped him on the shoulder as they moved towards the hallway. Still you tried to smell something, hold onto shred of useful information, but nothing was sticking.
“Definitely a story to be told around a fire.”
“Yes I can imagine!” Exclaimed Ecbert. “May I?” It took you a second to register he was talking to you, his hand reaching out tentatively for yours. Hvitserk growled, a deep rumble that reverberated through your body as his chest puffed out into your back, but you gave a curt nod when Ragnar gestured it was ok.
“You’re exquisite, my dear.” It took all your control not to cringe when his facial hair tickled the top of your hand, his warm breath brushing over your skin as he scented you deeply. “Heavenly. We shall meet again.” Hvitserk pretty much barrelled you out of the front door, his hands possessive as he marched you to the truck, but you didn’t fight him. Something about the way Ecbert looked at you had you seeking comfort. The way he watched you was predatory, he knew far more than he let on and you worried about what it meant for your pack.
The others were waiting in the kitchen. Ivar was sitting on the table while Björn paced along the length of the room. Harald stood when you all entered and you assumed Halfdan and Sigurd were on patrol.
“Well?” Harald demanded in that gruff voice of his.
“He seems perfectly nice,” Ragnar said with a shrug. “But I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him.”
“Find anything?” Björn addressed you, still restlessly pacing.
“He mentioned his son and two grandsons but the scents in that property hint to a pack far larger than he let on. None I recognised, but it was difficult as they all overlapped one another. There are two outbuildings just off the main part of the driveway, they looked newly built.”
“Definitely something shady is going on with them and their interest in us,” Ubbe uttered to no one in particular.
“Me,” you said firmly. “You mean their interest in me.”
“Of course they would have interest in you.” The whole group turned to look at Ivar as he leaned comfortably on his cane. “Look at you. One of a kind, the only she-wolf in the world. Maybe someone spotted you in the city.”
“Impossible,” you growled.
“Can you be sure?” Ivar cast a sly glance at Hvitserk as he spoke. “Prancing around with that human, flaunting yourself out in the open…”
“Enough, Ivar.” Hvitserk stepped forward, his voice deceptively soft, but you could see he was itching to take some frustration out on someone.
“Should have kept her on a tighter chain hmmm, Hvitserk.”
Ragnar watched his sons wearily. At first, all Hvitserk did was nod at his boots. A hand rested casually on his hip while the other swiped over his face and into his hair. You were about to release the breath you were holding when Hvitserk exploded into action, but Ivar was ready. They met with a roar, the pair of them falling over the other side of the table, the air filled with deep snarls and growls as they grappled for the upper hand.
The pack watched. Ivar was the superior fighter in this form, especially on the floor, but Hvitserk had rage adding weight to his fight. You didn’t think anyone was going to intervene as Ragnar nonchalantly regarded the contents of the fridge, a hand running up his chest when he sighed. Ubbe was watching his brothers intently. Harald tutted and moved over to the window when he saw his brother sprinting across the lawn. Floki leaned against the wall, arms and legs crossed in a relaxed posture but Björn was the one to reach down and grab each of his brothers by the scruff of the neck.
Hvitserk’s ruffled hair was all over his face, the glow of his wolf shone from his eyes as he bared his teeth at Ivar.
“You will not talk about her like that!” He demanded, the wolf evident in his voice.
“I fucking talk about who I want, how I want,” snapped Ivar. “She brought this whole fucking mess upon us because she didn’t stay in the pack house!”
“You don’t know that!” Snarled Hvitserk, twisting in Björn’s grip.
“Oh, enough!” Björn gave them both a shake. “It doesn’t matter who or what started this. What matters is we finish it, as a pack.” He forcefully planted Ivar on a chair, ignoring the baleful glare his youngest brother gave him. He kept hold of Hvitserk until he’d dragged him round the other side of the table and shoved him away. You all looked up as Halfdan slammed through the door. His chest was heaving from the run and he leaned heavily on the door frame.
“We found something.” The icy fingers of dread tickled their way down your spine and you knew whatever they’d found wasn’t good. Ubbe piggy backed Ivar so he didn’t miss out as the whole group filtered round the side of the house. Halfdan led you all down the driveway and a little off the road, his face grave.
“We don’t know whose it is but it smells…human.” The first thing you scented was blood. The iron tang laced the air and guided you right to the spot where the hand had been dumped.
At first you didn’t register that someone had dumped a human hand on your home turf. Or that it smelled like Nick until Hvitserk was trying to pull you away from it. Snatching your arm free from his grasp you walked forward in a daze. The Nick's scent grew stronger. Closing your eyes, you could almost imagine he was right there, whispering comforting words and holding you tight. The last few months had been tough between you, but it hadn’t always been like that. Nick had been the one to save you from yourself, he had stopped your destructive tendencies after leaving the pack and he didn’t even know he was doing it. But now Nick was being torn to pieces. It was your fault and you couldn’t save him.
A scream erupted from your chest. The sound ripped through your body, your wolf rising to answer the call of your distress, to be the stronger half and carry the weight of your wounds. Falling to all fours you couldn’t hear anything; not Ragnar trying to talk you out of the change as he crouched beside you, not Hvitserk as he rubbed your back trying to keep you sane. All you could see was the hand, pale and lifeless on the ground, tossed out here like rubbish. All you could think about was Nick in pain, suffering because of you. This was your fault.
You couldn’t have stopped the change, even if you wanted to. Your wolf burst forth in such a rush that the pain barely had time to register. As soon as the change had finished you stepped free of your torn clothes. Sniffing around the site, you could smell Nick and another scent, this one familiar because you’d just experienced it at the hotel. Snarling deep in your chest, you started to follow the trail but Ragnar’s sharp voice cut through the fog of your mind and you stopped to glance at him.
“Not today, hunulv.” Licking your teeth, a rough growl sounded in your throat as you tried to swallow it down. You’d never wanted to challenge Ragnar before, but today you were burning to disobey orders and hunt down the people who had Nick. He was still crouched on the ground, a slight smirk playing on his lips and his blue eyes danced at your dulled down reaction. “Move this. We need to be smart.” He got up with a weary sigh. “Take her home Hvitserk.” You felt his fingers tighten on the back of your neck, tugging you slightly in the direction of the pack house but you stayed facing the breeze. Letting the smells of the woodland flow over you, so much knowledge raced through your mind as you sorted the scents into plants, animals, predators, prey, enemies. Reluctantly, you allowed Hvitserk to lead you back, his hand never leaving your fur and for the first time since you’d been bitten, you didn’t fight him touching you in this form. As you approached the pack house he finally moved ahead, pulling some clothes from the stash next to the door.
“I can only find Ubbe’s…” you let out a huff as you collapsed on the floor. You didn’t care about being seen as the wolf melted away from you, letting your body go back to its original form with no fight whatsoever. Staring up at the sky you could feel the numbness spread through your body, the way you detached from this day as a whole. You didn’t want to remember finding the body, or realising Nick was gone. You didn’t want to believe you’d been on enemy pack territory and you couldn’t face the fact that they were possibly the ones who had Nick. You were a curse, your very existence was all wrong and so you tainted everything you touched.
Hvitserk wrapped you in a blanket and picked you up in one fluid movement. Your fist curled into the fabric of his shirt but you couldn't feel it. You felt like you were staring at someone’s else’s hand and he was carrying a stranger up the stairs to your room. This was your bed but it wasn’t, the curtains he pulled across to block out the rest of the day were yours, but they weren’t. Tears tracked down your face but they didn’t leak from your eyes. Hvitserk’s soft, comforting voice was absorbed by someone else’s ears because you couldn’t hear what he was saying as he crouched before you. His nature coloured gaze cast slowly over your still features as you focused on a point over his shoulder. His thumb swiped your cheek but you didn’t feel the tenderness in his gesture. You didn’t want this happening to you anymore, hoping maybe if you detached enough you’d cease to exist.
“Min søde,” he whispered, brushing some strands of hair back from your face. “I’m sorry.”

“She is a Christian,” Floki whispered in Ragnars ear as the pair studied the girl presented to them, “We should get rid of her, not drag her around with us. She will only slow us down,”
While Floki’s eyes bore into Ragnars skull the kings’ eyes lingered elsewhere. They had taken your village some days ago when one of his men found you hiding in the forest. The sight of you on your knees, even if it were to pray to a false god to survive, was enough to convince Ragnar.
“I should like to keep her,” he said, watching how your lips wrapped around the words you mumbled, “Untie her hands,” he commanded one of his men as Floki sighed.
“What is it with you and your Christian pets? At least keep her hands bound,” he tried to reason but Ragnar just shook his head. He knew you wouldn’t run.
A couple of weeks had passed of successful raiding and gold was beginning to pile up around him. Ragnar sat at the makeshift feast they had decided to throw after taking another village however his eyes were once again on the Christian girl who sat across from him. At first you used to flush under his gaze, a sight he enjoyed and often tried to tease out by whispering pretty words in your ear.
Ragnar leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table, “What are you thinking about?” he asked, your eyes snapping up to meet his.
“That I may sleep soon. The night is growing long,”
“That is an excellent idea. Perhaps I should join you,” he said, smirking at the way you began to stutter and flush, “Tell me something. Where you married before?”
You paused for a moment before answering, “No, why?”
Ragnar shook his head, “well I heard,” he said, leaning in closer and grinning as you did the same as his voice dropped to a whisper, “that it is only the married ones who get fucked,”
“I-well-I- yes it would be a sin otherwise,” you stuttered out, face growing hot as Ragnar poured himself another glass of wine. “I’m not even supposed to talk about…that,”
“Why not?”
“It is a sin,”
“Why?” he asked, tilting his head like a curious child.
The awkward smile worn on your lips made a real one grow on his face, “Because god said so,”
“Have you spoken to god,”
“Well, no,”
“Then how do you know?” a frustrated sigh left your lips that made Ragnars grin widen. He was getting to you and enjoying every moment of it. he leaned in closer once more, whispering for your sake more than anything,” Why would a god create something so beautiful then not let you appreciate its wonders?”
“It is a sin,” you clung to the excuse, realising you did not know why either.
The laugh that left his mouth however caught you off guard and your lips twitched, almost forming a smile at the smile on his face. That was until he spoke again, “Perhaps we should sin together one time,” he said, standing and grabbing his cup of wine. Before he could leave, he sauntered over to whisper one last thing in your ear, “And the idea of you falling apart on my cock is enough to make me believe in my god,”
A few more weeks had passed and soon you would be heading back with the raiders to their land. Despite still being wary of many of the men some, Ragnar specifically, had grown on you. “Where will I stay when you take me back with you?” you asked one night as you began to brush through your hair.
Ragnar glanced at you as he began to unlace his boots. While he had unbound your hands, he had insisted on keeping you in his tent, thankfully on your own bed, thought you wondered if this was for his entertainment or safety, “I will find somewhere for you,” he answered simply before reaching to pull his shirt over his head.
Despite seeing this sight many times, the way his muscles flexed, and his tattoos gleamed against his skin made a tingle shoot through your spine. “So, I won’t be a slave? Or is it a thrall you call them?”
Ragnar paused for a moment, his eyes scanning over you, “You need not worry little one. I will take care of you,”
A moment passed before you allowed yourself to smile, “Thank you Ragnar,” you said and a small smile crept onto his lips as he settled himself above his sheets, his eyes scanning over you.
“Come here,” he said, nervousness washing over you, “Trust me,”
You paused at first before standing from beneath your covers. Your underdress was the only thing to cover you now as you crossed the tent. Ragnar patted the spot beside him and cautiously you sat down, picking at your thumbs. His hand closed over yours, “You’ll make yourself bleed,” he said, and you just nodded as his eyes continued to study your face.
“Has anyone ever kissed you?” he whispered.
You swallowed before answering, “Once,” you said, tempted to pick at your skin but somehow resisting, “But I wasn’t very good at it,”
“Perhaps you should try again,” he whispered, his hot breath fanning over your skin as he moved to rest his forehead against yours.
“Perhaps you could teach me,” you whispered, a spark lighting in his eyes, “if I am to go back to your land perhaps it is time I Learned your ways,”
“All our ways?” he asked, his hand reaching over to run his fingers lightly up your thighs making you shiver, “Is that what you desire little one?”
“Would it be so wrong if I did?” you asked and the way your wide eyes gazed into his made Ragnars cock begin to harden.
His hand trailed slowly up your leg, torturously so until it arrived at your hip. You gasped when he grabbed it, pulling you over to straddle his thigh. “Ragnar- “you gasped, when he bent his leg up, propping you up on his strong thigh, “What are you doing?”
“Teaching,” his hands reached for your hair, pulling your lips down onto his. This was far different from the last time someone had kissed you. this was rough and needy and made whines leave your throat as one of his hands moved to your hips.
You couldn’t even question what he was doing before he began to move your hip, making you grind down onto his thigh. The way you whimpered made Ragnar wonder if Odin himself had blessed him. Ragnar guided your hips and soon your body took over, rubbing your clit against his strong thigh as his hand squeezed the flesh of your hips.
When he pulled his lips away yours chased after his making a chuckle leave them before he began to kiss down your jaw. “You don’t need to be quite little one,” he mumbled against your skin as a soft moan left your mouth, “No one will judge,”
His lips soon found the crook of your neck, kissing it in a way that made a knot in your stomach tighten. Since your hips now moved of their own accord his hands were free to travel up your frame, taking your tits in his hand and making you gasp as he squeezed them softly.
He felt his cock twitch at the feeling of the Hardened buds beneath your shift. His fingertips trailed slowly around your nipples at first, enjoying your needy whines before he finally began to roll them between his fingers.
“Oh god,” you moaned as he pinched them gently, but your words just made him want you more and groan against your skin.
It didn’t take long for a tight feeling to spread across your body, “What is happening to me?” you asked but it came out as more of a whine.
“Enjoy it little one,” Ragnar said, his lips moving to kiss your check, “Let yourself let go,” he said before your lips slammed onto his even catching yourself by surprise. Your moans allowed him to slip his tongue in, the kiss becoming messier and more desperate as you grinded against his thigh.
He felt your body jerk and Ragnar smirked into the kiss knowing what was about to happen. Your lips broke apart only for your head to fall in the crook of his shoulder, “Oh god,” you began to moan again before you felt your peak wash over you like a tidal wave.
sensing your body tensing and hips slowly Ragnar reached for your hips, moving them for you so he could watch you ride out your peak on his thigh. Curses left your lips before you finally slumped into his chest. Ragnar let out a small chuckle, letting his leg lay flat and holding you against his chest. Ragnar had defiantly made the right decision he thought.

Joao Felix is in love
joao felix x reader
headcannons and how you guys came to be <3
warnings: a few mentions of 18+ endeavors but nothing detailed.
Tumblr media
❀⋆ The first time Joao met you, he didn’t care about you. That is harsh, considering most relationships have a good start, but he was under the spell of his ex-girlfriend. The Atletico player didn’t want to let her go after many scandalous events. You found the Portuguese boy attractive plus he had a shy and confident aura. After a few months, accepting that he might not like you as much as he loves Magui, you left him alone entirely.
❀⋆ A year later in summer 2023, Joäo was at his lowest. He left Chelsea after a six month loan to go back to Atletico. Meanwhile, you finished your Bachelors degree in Humanities at the University of Madrid. When the Portuguese arrived in the Spanish capital, Atletico’s coach made him train with youth teams. In a careless response, Joao received tons of hate in the media for expressing how Barcelona, a rival club, was his childhood dream club. Atletico fans didn’t appreciate this at all and harassed him until he was aware. Magui left him in the dark for Lando Norris at the same time. You had no idea this was happening, since you forgot about Joäo to focus on your last year of college. One day, a mutual friend of yours and Joaos told you how bad he was doing mentally. The care and kindness in your heart felt torn as you searched Joao's name on twitter and saw the flood of hate tweets about him. You couldn’t handle it, so you reached out to Joäo offering support. You still cared about him after a year of cutting contact from him.
❀⋆ Joäo didn’t realize how much he missed you until you started talking to him again. In return, he talked to you constantly afterwards. He always listened and smiled at what you had to say. At first, he was scared to admit that he had feelings for you. The Portuguese got cheated on by his ex and didn’t want to regret opening up his heart again. Don't worry, it didn’t take long to admit to himself that he grew feelings for you.
❀⋆ As I said before, he is a great listener when he isn’t distracted by his airpods. He will constantly pay attention to what you've talked about to him and what you repost on social media. He saw you had a folder dedicated to Blue Hydrangeas on Pinterest. A few days later, he bought you a ton of flowers (Blue Hydrangeas) along with other expensive things that you appreciated.
❀⋆ When you visited his house in Madrid for the first time, you met his dog that you’ve seen on social media, Floki. If you’re a dog person, you gladly took the boy into your arms as he ran to you at the front door. If you’re afraid of dogs, you’re hesitant to engage with the boy as he licked your ankle once for attention. Eventually, Joäo got you to hold Floki and your fear drifted away. Floki loves you so much and the Portuguese boy noticed this. Every time you went to Joäo’s house, the brown boy always laid on your lap and followed you like a personal guard dog around Joao’s house. Joao took note of this, realizing that Floki isn’t that clingy with him.
❀⋆ Barcelona accepted Joäo on a loan contract and you were excited for him. After he moved to Barcelona from Madrid, you were nervous. You were in love with him and didn’t want it to go to waste by his absence. He didn’t forget about you, once he settled into his new house he asked if you would come live with him. Some people might have hesitated in this position but you said yes. After graduating college in Madrid you wanted to move and experience living in a new city. Joäo asks you to officially be his girlfriend once you settle into his home. He mentioned that he couldn’t have a long distance relationship with you since he can’t imagine going days without seeing you. He makes you comfortable in your shared home.
❀⋆ The boy will always cater to anything you want since he moved you away from your old home. If you’re a cat person, you talked to Joäo about wanting to get a cat. Joäo supported your decision since he wanted Floki to have a friend when he had to travel for away games. At the adoption center, a young brown cat walked up to you and sat in your lap. The one year old cat was named “Brownie” by the shelter. Joäo and you loved Brownie and noted how her color matched Floki’s. Both of you adopted the cat and Floki loved her as soon as she stepped out of her cat carrier. This warmed your heart as you nearly cried in Joäo's arms.
❀⋆ Joäo has a set time for going to bed before training in the mornings or game days, which is midnight. You were nervous when you first moved in, considering that your sleep schedule isn't consistent. There are times where you're asleep before he gets to bed after playing FIFA and there are times where he's in a deep sleep by the time you get unready from the day and go to bed. Floki and Brownie are on the bed asleep every night beside you and the four of you sleep peacefully.
❀⋆ Love Language? It's physical touch for Joäo. He loves touching you. Sometimes his hand will be on your lower back when you're standing beside him. Every time he gives you a hug, he will ALWAYS kiss your forehead, neck, cheeks, or lips in the process. When you're sitting on your shared couch in the living room, he will lay his body on top of you and sometimes falls asleep on you. When you both have sex together, which is every night because you guys cannot keep your hands off of each other, he gives you so much praise and makes you melt.
❀⋆ One thing Joäo will accomplish doing is scaring you with small pranks. One day, you were recording a video in the living room for your job and Joäo was standing in the background with a creepy mask on. When you looked at the corner of your screen as you recorded yourself, you jumped as your heart was close to ripping out of your chest from seeing the figure in the background. Joäo started laughing loudly as he took off the mask to see your reaction. "Stop it Felix, that's not funny!" you say as he continues to laugh until he is begging for air.
❀⋆ When Joäo scores goals with Barcelona, he will make a symbol with his hands that point out the letter of your name. If you think that he can’t make a hand symbol with your first letter, he will do sign language that points out your letter. He is thinking about you always and always dedicates his goals to you, something he never really did with Magui. Fans noticed this after awhile and loved how much you made him happy.
❀⋆ One day, you had to leave Joäo for a few days since one of your siblings was expecting a child in Lisbon. After the successful delivery and getting to meet your niece/nephew, you decided to go to a Benfica game by yourself to occupy your time. After watching Benfica win, you meet Hugo Felix for the first time. He liked you for his older brother and noticed how easy it was to talk to you. Surprising Joäo, Hugo facetimed him and your face appeared on the screen as Joäo played FIFA in the living room in your Barcelona home. The boy blushed and was happy that Hugo met you. A few months before, Joao told Hugo how he feels about you and Hugo appreciates how much you’ve supported his big brother during his dark moments in summer 2023.
❀⋆ The Portuguese boy loves listening to music. He will blast music in the house, listen to music on his AirPods before big games, attends concerts with you, and more. He will listen to music genres that you love and usually enjoys it, even if it's music he hasn't listened to. Joäo wants to enjoy what you've enjoyed with music.
❀⋆ The public didn’t get a hold on your relationship with the Barcelona left-winger until Joao posted a story with you in it. This is seven months after you guys were official. Some fans didn’t know who you were so people dug through Joäo’s instagram following and saw your page with about 41k followers. Joäo’s fans were happy and started supporting you since they’re confident that you won’t cheat on him and he had a chance to move on from his ex.
❀⋆ Joäo is down bad for you and is happy that he can open up his heart for someone like you.

White Bird
The water was lapping in small waves towards the beach. The wind had picked up and left goose bumps on your body, you looked up as you heard the birds fly past you, only faintly could you make out their outlines. Since birth, you have had a visual defect, and in other ways you are different from other people. You speak little, your white skin would not tan even in the strongest sun, and your hair was a white color. You were stroking the light sand and letting the small grains of sand glide through your fingers when you noticed someone behind you. A smile stretched across your lips as you recognized the deep inhalation. It was Floki, he always came to check on you when you were sitting here alone, but he never spoke to you.
You looked across the water, the sun reflected on the small waves and made the water glisten. "My little white bird" Floki said softly and came up to you, stroking your hair. "Don't you feel like doing something?" you slowly shook your head, a little surprised that he was addressing you today. "You know Ivar promised to do anything that came to mind with you?" You nodded in reply, a smile appearing on your lips again, before you pointed to the view before you. "You look out to sea for days, white bird," he said lovingly, again you nod, it wasn't that you wanted to go out to sea. You enjoy the peace, the solitude and the view your over eyes show you. "Okay, but remember, you are very special" He took your head in both hands and kissed your forehead.
When he stood up, you looked at him, he had these sad eyes since Helga's death, and whenever he looked at you, you saw very clearly that he was sad, that you had dark thoughts. "It's all right, me, here," you said, you were happy with Floki, he smiled and turned around. For a long time you watched him go, until your eyes failed you, but you knew he was nearby, building one of his ships. You are not his biological daughter, but he still treated you like one. You didn't know much more, only what he and Helga had told you. When you thought of her, your heart became heavy. Helga taught you to talk, at least as well as she could. You lay down on your back and tried to think back.
"I'll give you a good price, she seems to be blind, can't talk and is quite weak" your eyes recognized a handsome man kneeling in front of you. He had a blonde woman at his side who smiled lovingly at you, when the man tried to touch your face you flinched. "She is scared, what have you done to her?" the woman asked angrily, but the man raised his hands apologetically, "Nothing, nothing, I promise you. I got her from another trader, she was already like that there" "Floki, let's…" - "No, Helga. We just lost our daughter" but Floki didn't take his eyes off you and even smiled at you a little.
"I'll give you a good price, she won't be able to do heavy work, but she'll last as long as she lasts" You saw the man Floki's face contort into an angry grimace, and you cried out as he pulled the axe out of his belt and pushed the man against the wall, the axe close to his neck "She's not an animal, and she's not an object!" he shouted, most of the people around him ran away in panic, but your eyes looked at Foki in amazement. Helga knelt in front of you and wanted to take you in her arms, but you managed to wrest yourself from her hands and made yourself as small as possible, holding your arms around your head for protection. "My lord, please let me give it to you like this, it's hardly worth anything and I have better ones," the merchant said and rummaged in his pocket for the key.
From here on, you could only remember confused stuff. People screaming, the trader lying on the floor bleeding. The children who were freed and ran away. But you, you did not run away, because you had taken up your protective position, where you were sure that you would not be seen. But you were seen, even very well, by Helga and Floki. How they managed to get you to their home, you had no memory. Still you smiled and looked at the boats, their flags waving in the wind. You could see their color clearly. Floki cried out "damn it" it came from the boats and your smile widened, he probably hit his finger again.
The wind blew and left a rustling in your ears.- Look, look… Sits here doing nothing… Has no friends. - You shake your head to make the voice disappear, but it didn't - I am good for nothing. You put your hands on your ears and began to whimper. "Leave, leave" you spoke softly as you pressed your chin to your chest. - Ugly - "Floki" you scream and hear the hammer land on wood, then the rustle of his clothes as he came running towards you. He put his hands on yours and rested his forehead against yours. "It is your own voice, white bird, your own," he said, stroking your head, but you just shake your head. "Yes, yes… she won't hurt you if you don't let her. Tell me what she says" he lifted your head.
Your tears ran down your face, and you wiped them away. "Ugly," was all you said. Floki shook her head and kissed your forehead. "No, little white bird, you are definitely not ugly. Come, come with me" he said and pulled you to your feet. I don't believe him, you thought, but he took your hand, and you followed him to the water. "Look into it," he said and squatted down, pointing to the water. When you didn't move, he looked up at you, he took your wrist and pulled you closer to him. "Look into the water," he said pleadingly. Slowly, you knelt down, your white dress soaked with water. "Do you see what I see?" he asked, and you slowly shook your head as you looked at the blurred reflection.
"Then I told you what I see, if I may" as a tear fell into the water you raised your upper body and looked at Floki and nodded. He wiped your face, "I see a beautiful face" again you shook your head. You yourself didn't think it was beautiful. "Yes it is, and your white hair matches it beautifully" he smiled as he ran his hands through your white silky hair, just as Helga had always done. Briefly, your heart grew heavy again. "And your eyes, no one has eyes like that, it makes you special" Floki spoke, and again you looked into the water, white eyes looking out at you. Floki once said that bright blue was in them when the sun shone in. You smiled and tilted your head, the voice was gone, but the thoughts remained. Still, you felt better, and you hugged Floki, in thanks.
"As long as I am here, I will protect you from everything that is coming, my little white bird," he said softly and put his head on your shoulders and hugged you closer. You wanted to help him feel better too, but you didn't know what you could do. "I am invited tonight, you will accompany me" you shook your head, you didn't feel like going anywhere, there were people there and even since you were a child only a few treated you well. "Yes, I'll be there, nothing can happen to you. Besides, Ivar is there, maybe you can talk a little and see what you can do together" you didn't like the idea, it wasn't because you didn't like Ivar, he was always nice to you, but there was only one person you could really trust and that was Floki.
"Do you want to help me? I can't do all this alone" he said and helped you to stand up. You looked at the boats and nodded with a big grin. "Love to" You both made your way to the boat Floki was working on, and it wasn't until you were closer that you could really get a good look at it, you climbed into the unfinished boat and looked around. Actually you had no idea what to do here, but you found the hammer he had dropped earlier, and you tapped him on the shoulder as he searched for it "Ah, thank you" he spoke, raising his eyebrow briefly and pointing to a tangled mess of ropes "Can you untie those, I don't have the nerve" You looked at the ropes and groaned, always the same with him, or he does it on purpose, whatever it was you were glad to be able to help him.

In the evening
Slowly, you walked behind Floki as you went to the longhouse. Again and again he looked at you and smiled, sometimes he stopped so that you would walk beside him, but his steps were so wide that he soon walked in front of you again. "You'll have fun, believe me," he said, but you weren't so sure. You only wanted to be at home, maybe do some sewing, but you definitely didn't want to go to the longhouse with all the people. Besides, it was noisy and that always stressed you out and gave you a headache, but for Floki's sake you pulled yourself together. In front of the entrance, several groups of men and women were already standing together and talking. Some greeted Floki when they recognized him.
Together with him, you entered the large hall, several tables were set up, the room was lit by several candles and torches. But your dull eyes could only see the people who were really standing with you. Laughter and shouting reached your ears, and you were about to turn and leave when you ran into Hvitserk. "Oops, sorry" he said and grinned, then looked at Floki "Are you leaving again?" you notice Floki put his hands on your shoulders and squeeze a little "No, we just got here. Do me a favor Hvitserk and look after her please" he reached over you and grabbed Hvitserk by the collar and pulled him closer to you and himself. You felt a little uncomfortable standing between them like that and looked away as Hvitserk grinned at you. "But don't you dare…" - "All right Floki, nothing will happen to her" he said, raising his hands.
Hvitserk grabbed your hand as he was let go by Floki and pulled you behind him, you looked pleadingly at Foki, but he just smiled lovingly and nodded, then he was hidden by the crowd. Slowly you turn forward again and looked at the long braided hair of Hvitserk. You close your eyes for a brief moment and breathe deeply, please let this evening pass quickly, you thought. Arriving at a table, he let go of your hand, but you stay behind him. You didn't want to be here, and you didn't want to see who was here. But you recognized many by their voices "Oh Hvitserk, what have you brought?" said Bjorn "Floki said she should hang out with us a bit" said Hvitserk and looked to the left and right, when he didn't see you he turned around startled and put a hand on his chest in relief when he saw you.
He came a little closer and whispered "Don't do that to me, Floki will kill me if you run away" he pulled an empty chair from the table and pointed to it. "Sit down" he said when you didn't react "Come on, I won't bite" said Ivar who was sitting next to the empty chair, he pointed to it and smiled at you. "Well, I'm not so sure about that" said Ubba who was sitting in front of him and laughed out loud. You saw how Ivar's face was distorted for a moment, but he didn't take his eyes off you. Unable to do anything else, you reluctantly sat down. "And who are you?" asked Bjorn, leaning forward, he crossed his arms on the table and grinned cheekily. You were about to open your mouth to answer when the girl next to you started to speak "Oh that's the crazy one from Floki" Bjorn raised his eyebrows and some laughed.
"She's not crazy," Ivar said, stroking your back, but you couldn't take your eyes off the girl. She had brown hair and a mole at the corner of her mouth, her eyes were a bright green. She laughed and pointed at you while talking to her friend next to her. You looked at Ivar, he shook his head slightly, he took your cup and filled it. "And what do you do?" Bjorn now asked, why does he care, you thought to yourself, but again the girl beat you to it, and now you knew how you knew her "Oh she doesn't do anything, she can't do anything" again her friends laughed, you noticed that Bjorn and Ivar were not laughing, Hvitserk and Ubba as well as Sigurd were busy with themselves and paid no attention to the girl's words. You sat back when she did not stop talking badly about you, when it became clear to you again what she had done to you.
"Jump, jump, you don't dare," cried the little brown-haired girl with the birthmark on the corner of her mouth. You were standing on a tree, because the girls had bet that you couldn't make it anyway. But now you were standing here and all you heard was to jump. "Then we... are friends?" you said, and the girls started laughing. "Sure, you'll be our friend. Come jump, and you are our friend" said the blonde girl, she had a scar on her lower lip. She looked at the third girl laughing, she had fox colored hair and freckles. "Come jump," the girl with the birthmark shouted and let her hand whiz from top to bottom. Your eyes looked down at the ground, from up here it didn't really look that deep, but still your heart beat faster, and you started to sweat. This was your chance to finally belong.
You gathered all your courage, blocking out the girls' laughter and concentrating on landing safely on your feet. Slowly you crouched down and jumped, your foot snapping away as it hit the ground, and you fell hard to the side, hitting your head. The girls' laughter grew louder, the girl with the birthmark kicked you in the stomach "You will never be one of us you freak" she shouted, and the others laughed "Come" she said and left, but the other two girls did the same and kicked you before disappearing. You lay on the floor crying, your head and feet aching, you didn't move and thought about what it would be like to be a normal girl, but the gods don't mean well with you, even if Helga always said otherwise, you don't believe it anymore.
"Shut the fuck up" Ivar shouted and threw his cup in the girl's direction, the splashes of the drink flying in your face snapping you out of your thoughts. "He's right, enough" Bjorn spoke, and the other three brothers also looked at the girl. "She can't do anything, really nothing, nothing even archery. When the autumn festival was, we saw that she can't do anything" the autumn festival, you thought back to it, you had tried all the stands for Helga's love, archery, axe throwing and much more, nothing really succeeded, but you had fun and Helga was happy. Your heart bled when you thought of her laughing face, and you became sad. Ivar must have seen it and probably thought you were sad because of her words, "I'll teach her" he said softly, not taking his eyes off you.
You looked at him and smiled, actually that was not a bad idea, so you could show him that you were willing to learn something. "But only if you want to" you nod slowly "It's not worth the time Ivar" the girl spoke, "I think you sitting here is not worth his time. Go" Bjorn said and stood up to express his words. The girl looked at you crossly, but she said nothing more, she stood up and took her plate in her hand. She threw it into your lap and disappeared, you watched her go, then looked at the jealous faces of the other two before they too left the table. Hvitserk stood up, took a cloth napkin and came towards you, Ivar and he helped you to clean the food remains from your dress, but there were still stains. The white dress that Helga gave you, you hoped you could clean the stains.
"We have to do something" Ivar said to Hvitserk, and he just nodded, he put a hand on his shoulders and grinned broadly "Let me do it, but promise me to keep an eye on her, otherwise Floki will make me a head shorter" Ivar nodded before he sat down again, you looked after Hvitserk, actually you didn't want him to do that, it would only cause twice as much trouble again. When you noticed a hand being placed on your forearm you looked at Ivar "Let them talk. They have no idea" - "That's right. They are young and naive" Bjorn said and put a piece of meat on your plate. The evening went quietly, and you spent most of the time listening to the boys talking excitedly about what it was like at sea and how they were going to take you next time, so you could see more than you did Kattegat, or Floki's hut. You always made them laugh when you responded by shaking your head vigorously, you were happy at Floki's hut and in Kattegat, even if you didn't like being here so much because it's far too big and far too many people.
Tumblr media
Two days later
Since you were in Kattegat, you felt exhausted and tired. You didn't leave the hut, even though Floki really did everything to make you feel better. But you didn't want to, you didn't want to be here or anywhere else, in fact you didn't want anything, you didn't even enjoy sewing. The stains on your dress hadn't come out, but you didn't want to throw the dress away either, it was the only thing you had of Helga. The anger that grew inside you like an ulcer gnawed at your bones, you wanted to get back at the girls, but you didn't know how. Even if Hvitserk had thrown pig manure at them, that was not enough for you. But you realize that you were not only angry at them, but at all of them, at Helga for leaving you alone. At Floki for adopting you, at Ragnar's sons, but you couldn't think of the reason. And last, but not least, at yourself for being the way you are.
You held the fabric close to your face, so you could see where to place the needle as Floki entered. He looked at you and smiled, but you didn't smile back "Little white bird" he spoke softly and came slowly towards you, stubbornly you looked at your needle again. "Ivar is here again" - "Then…. Send away" you spoke, "I…. Not going" Floki gave a short giggle and stroked your open hair. "He doesn't want to pick you up" he said and stood back up, slowly you directed your gaze to his face. "I'll tell him you need a little time" he turned, at the door he looked at you again, then left the hut. You listened and could hear two voices from outside. The fire crackled as you looked startled, you could see Helga for a moment. No, you were not angry with her. You thought back to the evening when she lovingly embraced you.
You lay your whole body against hers as she hugged you. "Oh sweetie" she said and smiled. She let go of you, and you put your little head on her lap so that you were looking into her face. "One day you will become very special" she spoke and stroked your forehead. She ran a hand through your hair, you laughed out "No really, I can tell" she spoke "I think a warrior, or a loving mother. Or both, it's possible" - "I think the gods have a way for you too" Floki spoke, sitting at the table eating. Helga laughed, "That's what I said, I just left the gods out of it and do you know why?" she asked you. You shook your head and looked at her with wide eyes. "Because we choose our own path, become what you want, blacksmith, tanner, warrior or boat builder" she looked at Floki and smiled as he slowly turned around.
"Nevertheless, the path is determined by the gods," Floki said and Helga mimicked him, which made you laugh. "Still, he is right, our feet are guided by the gods" You looked into her big eyes and thought about what you once wanted to be. "I can teach you to build the best ships" Floki spoke and smiled in your direction. "Big ones" you spoke, holding your small hands apart, "Even bigger than that" Floki giggled.
The door was pushed open and Ivar crawled in, he sat down in front of you and breathed heavily "Enough sitting around and …" he pointed in circles at your fabric "Whatever, you're doing" you tilted your head and looked at him thoughtfully. Ivar was here often, so you actually knew him very well, but he always had new sides to him that surprised you. "Floki?" you asked, sure that he was probably here for him. "What do I want with the crook-legged one?" he asked, grinning, "I'm here because I promised to teach you archery" you thought back to the evening when he had offered it to you, but you were sure he would forget again. "I have everything ready" he pointed to the wall "Outside, you don't have to go anywhere" he said looking at you questioningly. - He doesn't really mean to - you close your eyes for a moment. Then you nod, simply not to give the voice in your head a chance to keep telling you lies. - But what if it wasn't lies? -
You stood up and smiled, at least you could see his smile. Ivar crawled towards the exit, you stopped at the door and tried to see what he had prepared. You saw Floki blurry, something round hammering on the trunk. He slapped Ivar on the shoulders as he sat down on a small barrel, he reached beside him and took his bow and arrows. "Let's see what you can do" he held it out to you the two items but only reluctantly did you take them. Since you had held a bow before, you knew how to hold it, even how to apply an arrow, but hitting was difficult for you. You pulled the string and looked at the round wooden target, Floki had painted a dot on it with black paint, but you only saw it dimly "Wait no, no, if you are going towards the opponent, you don't need a bow, come back" Ivar said as you took a few steps forward.
"Ivar" spoke Floki, who was standing behind you, "No, you old ass. I know she can't see, at least not much, but" he looked at you "then she should trust her feeling, I know you can" he finished the sentence. Feeling? Does he mean the feeling that has made you *see* your whole life? You close your eyes and take a deep breath. Before you even opened your eyes again you let go of the string, you couldn't see the arrow, but you could hear it, you had hit "Yes" Ivar shouted and Floki rejoiced. "Not able to hit the target, but hit! Not bad for a first try" said Ivar and clapped his hands, Floki hugged you from behind and patted your shoulder as he let you go again. "Again in a moment" he said and fetched the arrow. You watched him, he reached a few feet above the round target. - Further down - the voice spoke into your head, and for the first time it was on your side. A feeling of happiness came over you.
You trained with Ivar for a long time that day, and soon it was getting dark. "Last arrow, I can hardly see, and I think you feel the same?" you nod and put the arrow on "Wait a minute" he said and called Floki "What? Ivar the Boneless, calling me like a dog" - "I would never presume to treat you like a dog, only I had a question" - "what's question?" - "It's getting late, can I stay at your place tonight?" You had overheard the conversation, only fleetingly, you concentrated on your feeling, for you could hardly see. "When she hits," Floki spoke, crossing his arms in front of his chest. Slowly, you looked in Ivar's direction, but you still pulled on the string a little. "Don't let a cripple crawl around in the night" he said, and you notice his eyes resting on you. You smiled as you noticed the arrow vibrating, when you aimed a little to the right it was no longer there.
Still looking at Ivar, you sought the vibration again and let the arrow fly, a loud thud sounding. "No" said Floki and ran past you. Ivar looked at you stunned "Floki?" he asked quietly, "Hit, She hit" yelled Floki and came running towards you both with the target in his hand. "She hit" exclaimed Floki happily. You could only see Ivar grinning broadly, but he said "Maybe it's just a fluke, but maybe she's got the hang of it" he laughed briefly and then looked victoriously at Floki "Anyway, we'll keep training and I want a soft bed" You didn't know what it was, but something inside you had grown and become stronger.
Tumblr media
A few weeks later
You were hardly able to get away from the bow, and the desire to use it as well as someone who could see grew. Ivar said you were better than anyone he knew, even better than he ever was. But you wanted more. Many objects stood before you on a wooden trunk and grew smaller and smaller, a vase, a glass, small carved wooden figures that grew smaller and a small glass sphere. "I have to go to Ragnar, he wants something from me" Floki said and kissed your forehead, as he was about to leave you grabbed his arm. "Coming" you said. You took an arrow and put it on, Floki watched you proudly, and for a long time his eyes shone like they did then. You aimed and focused on the small glass sphere "Can you see it?" asked Floki skeptically, you shook your head, you knew where it was, that was all you needed. Feeling the attraction and the vibration, you let the arrow fly.
When the iron tip hit the bullet, the ball flew out of its place and the arrow got stuck in the bark. Floki chuckled briefly and put a hand on your shoulders "You hit it, I didn't expect anything else" he said, then he became serious again "Are you sure you want to come?" you nodded, you had never felt so sure as today. "Come on then, we'll take the boat" he said, and you walked behind him, from a distance you could see the outline of the small boat as Floki turned to you "No, you leave him here please" you looked at your hands, actually you wanted to take him with you, you felt safe with the bow. But when you saw Floki's face, you smiled and nodded. "Boat" you said, and he nodded too, "If you leave him in the boat, it's no problem for me". During the trip to Kattegat, you stroked the bow Ivar had given you and thought back to when you first met Ivar.
Floki came into the hut, holding a little boy in his arms, "Look, this is Ivar" he said, placing the little boy directly in front of you. He smiled cheekily at you, but you narrowed your eyes when you saw his deep blue eyes "He's just as special as you are" Floki said, stroking your hair. You surveyed the boy's cheeky face and backed away slightly as he came crawling towards you. You had wondered that day why the boy didn't get up and just walk. Floki only explained this to you in the evening when you asked. The little boy snatches the piece of wood that was carved as a figure out of your hand. But you grabbed it and wanted to snatch it back from him, but he was strong and didn't let go.
He pulled so hard that you fell forward, he let go of the toy and grabbed your hair. He held it in front of his eyes, and the strands of hair ran through his little fingers as you moved away from him again. He grinned cheekily again and wanted to grab the toy you held tightly to your chest, but you slapped him with the flat of your hand. But instead of crying, he just looked at you for a long time. He reached into his pocket and took out a small glass ball and held it in your direction, "Swap?" he asked. You didn't know what it was that connected you, but he always treated you like a normal person.
"Ivar" you spoke as you got out of the small boat and Floki giggled "Yes maybe he is there, you can look for him, I have to go to Ragnar" Floki spoke, and together you walked through the streets of Kattegat. Hvitserk just strolled out of the longhouse and greeted you, you grab Floki's arm and point at him "Run along little white bird" he smiled at you as you run after Hvitserk and grab his shoulder. "I… come with you?" you asked as he turned to you in surprise. At your question he looked behind you for a moment, and you turned, you could just see Floki's sign he was showing Hvitserk and you laughed. He had his thumb running over his throat and was pointing at Hvitserk, he gulped and then nodded at you. "Sometimes the old one scares me," he said, and you both laughed.
When you both arrived at his brothers, Ubba looked at you questioningly, and Ivar was also surprised to see you. "No Hvitserk, she can't come" said Sigurd, who was already sitting on a horse "Sigurd" said Ubba angrily, he came up to you and cleared his throat "We can't take you with us, we want to go hunting, and we can't look after you" You looked sadly at the ground "I'm sorry" said Ubba as he looked at Hvitserk for a moment and raised his eyebrows. Hvitserk put a hand on your back, "Sorry" he spoke and left you standing as he walked to his horse. Ivar smiled at you sympathetically "Another time gladly, I will schedule you next time!" he promised and was helped onto his horse by Ubba. "It's okay," you say, turning to go to Floki. You notice the looks of the boys on your back, and there it was again, that feeling of not being needed for anything.
Floki was standing with Ragnar and the two were talking, you had the feeling that they were arguing. You decided not to ask or say anything and just stood there. Ragnar looked at you questioningly after a long time and Floki turned to you, he looked angry. "Not now!" he shouted, shooing you away with his hand. "Wait for me outside" he spoke and turned back to Ragnar. You took a deep breath to keep the tears from rolling out of your eyes. He had never been like this to you, had never sent you away. Had you done something wrong? Your steps were quick, and soon you were standing outside looking around. Many people walked past you and looked at you in wonder. Some even stopped and glared at you. - Looking at you because you are ugly - you put your hands on your ears, no, the voice was gone, but now it was back - You are useless - Now the tears ran down your cheeks, and you crouched down, so you were invisible, like when you were a little child.
But then you got up, no, not today, you thought to yourself and looked around. You wipe your tears from your face with your sleeve and walk away. If no one wants you, then you won't wait. You knew the way home and decided to go alone, Floki could go home by boat. Anger gripped you, but it was for you alone, anger that you were not like the others. You could see the gate leading out of Kattegat from afar when you heard three girls laughing at a house on the right. But your vision did not allow you to see who it was or what they were laughing about. But when you had passed them, were they following you, or did they just want to get out of Kattegat? An uneasiness spread through you, and soon you felt followed, and your feeling never betrayed you.
On the forest path you looked around briefly, the three figures were still behind you, and they started laughing as you turned forward again. Your steps quickened, you looked to your left, there the trees were close together, then you looked to your right, there were very few trees here and most of them were clinging to the slope by their roots. And below you saw nothing but the sea. Your heart began to beat faster, and you tried to calm it down by telling yourself that no one wanted to harm you, you felt warm and began to sweat, you felt like you could hardly breathe. Briefly you were annoyed with yourself that you hadn't just waited, you were about to insult yourself and finish yourself off when someone grabbed you by the shoulder and spun you around. "Well, well" You looked into the girl's face with the birthmark at the corner of her mouth, "Who do we have here?"
You also recognized the other two girls when they started laughing and circling you. "A nothing," they said out of one mouth. The girl in front of you pushed you so hard that you fell backwards, you take a step backwards and flew over the foot of the girl with the red hair and freckles. As you lay on the ground, they laughed again and without saying another word, they kicked you, the kick in the pit of your stomach made the air escape from your lungs. The kick of the girl with the scar on her lips hit you directly in your ribs, and you screamed out. She couldn't help it and kicked the same spot three more times. A kick to your head, cracked your lip, again you screamed out and tasted blood seconds later. You looked up as the girl kick again and broke your nose with a single kick. The girl with the mole kicked you in the pit of your stomach one more time before she stopped the others from kicking you further.
"Wait" she spoke, you coughed and held your ribs, trying to get air. "Lift her up, I have an idea" she spoke and all three of them pulled you to your feet "There" she shouted and nodded towards the cliff. "No… Please" you started begging as you looked down the cliff, at the big and small rocks that lay in front of the sea. "You wanted to be one of us, maybe the gods are so kind" the girl spoke and laughed, the others didn't laugh, but they didn't seem to want to say anything against it either. "But I don't think even the gods want you" she said and pushed you, you turned around and wanted to grab one of them, but your feet lost their grip and you fell backwards down the cliff, the laughing faces watching you. You turned on your side as you fell, hitting the smaller rocks hard.
You were alive, you noticed how your ribs, legs and right arm were broken, they were twisted between the stones. You had bitten your tongue on impact, and blood was flowing from your open mouth as you tried to catch your breath. Your gaze turned to the water, the waves did not reach you, they beat lightly against the rocks on which you were lying. You reached out your left hand and put it in the water, maybe I'll die here, then I'll soon see Helga again, poor Floki, will be all alone. Something died in you at that moment and something else grew, should I survive this, revenge will be mine. Then your body released you into unconsciousness.

Two months later
Ivar sat in front of you in the hut, "And you really want to do this?" you nodded, you had tried to explain to him the plan you had been planning for a long time in your recovery. It wasn't easy, but he knew you and what you meant by the few words you told him. It didn't surprise you for a long time, because you were sure that he could only do that because you had grown up with him. "You know that if anyone even sees you doing this, it will be punished?" You nodded. But your gaze was fixed and emotionless as you thought of the three girls. Floki had found you and brought you home, he had cared for you and healed you. Again and again he asked who had done this to you, but you told him nothing.
But you needed someone to refine your plan, and you knew Ivar was smart, he looked at you and exhaled deeply, "Oh man, why are you telling me this? Why do you trust me? I could go and tell everyone" you tilt your head wondering if he might consider it but if anyone saw you it wouldn't matter either, you shrug. "That's … would be the ultimate punishment, probably burning alive or a blood eagle" he thoughtfully cut a piece off his apple and then looked like he had an idea. He popped the piece into his mouth when suddenly the door opened and Floki walked in. He smiled at you and then looked questioningly at Ivar, who shook his head slightly. Floki squatted in front of you and stroked your head, "You can tell us, who did it, white bird. So that they get their just punishment" you looked at Ivar, who looked at you and then turned his gaze to the ground, but he said nothing, even though he knew everything.
Floki took a deep breath, looked from you to Ivar, he probably knew that Ivar knew everything, but he did not ask. Again you smiled at him as he stood up. "Oh, Floki" Ivar spoke and looked up "I invited her to sleep with us for a few days" Floki put his hands on his hips and looked at him questioningly, you also looked at Ivar questioningly. "Not with me, you old bow-legged donkey" you had to stifle a laugh as you saw the warning face of Floki. You nodded as he looked at you, "If she thinks it's okay, then she can go with you. But…" Ivar raised his hands in reconciliation, "I'll take care of her" Floki left the hut, and you looked at Ivar questioningly again. "It's important that you sleep with us" he crawled over to you and sat close to you "Your plan is good, but I have another idea, how about …."
Tumblr media
Two days later, in the night
Slowly, you walk through the streets of Kattegat. Wrapped in a long black coat that Ivar had given you. You pulled the hood far in your face so that your white hair would not betray you, a smile on your lips, you saw nothing, but you felt your steps being guided. Ivar had found out where the girls lived, he had helped you with so much, and you didn't know how to thank him until now. You saw a burning torch lying in front of a house. He had kept his promise, you were ready to start. You stopped by the torch and looked around, not that you saw much, but you wanted to make sure that no eyes were on you. Only then did you approach the door and open it quietly, as he said, it never locks. Slowly, you stepped inside and shut the door behind you, so it wouldn't slam shut. You reach under your coat and pull a small dagger from your belt. Slowly you continued on your way, you look in every corner, but you couldn't find her.
It was only when you reached the room and looked in that you saw an outline lying on the bed. Your grin returned as you walk towards her. You took the flint from your pocket and lit the candle next to the bed. You put the stone next to it and took the candle in your hand and held it right in front of the sleeping girl's face. She had red hair and freckles. The warmth in her face made her wake up, slowly she opened her eyes, and you put your head to the side. You saw her fear when she recognized you, before she could scream you rammed the dagger into her throat. She opened her eyes and tried to say something.
As you pulled the dagger from her throat, blood spurted in all directions. Slowly, you approached her face and says, "The gods won't want you. You will not belong and sit at the table with Odin" You grin broadly as you place the candle back on the small side table. You put the dagger back on your belt and sit down beside her on the bed, your eyes watching as the life slowly flowed out of her. Her eyes did not leave you as she began to cough and soon lay rigid on the bed. Something inside you died with her. You slowly got up and made your way outside. She lived alone and Ivar said she would be the lightest of all and therefore the first to receive her fate. You looked around and made your way to the second destination.
Once there, Ivar grinned at you with a torch in his hand. "Done?" he whispered, and you nodded in reply "Good, here" he said and took a bow that he had leaned against the wall of the house and pressed it into your hand. "And this" he handed you an arrow "This one is carved differently" amazed you took it, then you looked at him questioningly "Don't ask me, must be a quirk of hers, you only have one shot, go up" he spoke and looked up, you climbed on top of the barrels and looked at him again, but he didn't see it because he was looking around. You decided to thank him later as you continued your way up to the roof. You bend down and take easy steps, you walked across the roof so as not to wake the owners. Once on the other side, you looked down. Ivar was slowly limping past the house. He looked up at you and grinned, "Don't hit me" he said and then went to the house opposite. You could faintly see his shape thanks to the torch in his hand, don't worry Ivar, I would never shoot you, you thought and smiled.
You wrap yourself up for safety, tighter in your cloak, and wait for him to implement the plan he had hatched. Ivar took one last look around before knocking on the door, you couldn't see who was opening the door, full of anticipation you put the arrow on the string and readied yourself, but you heard a male voice "Ivar, what in all the gods are you doing at our door so late at night?" - "Sorry Erikson, it's about her daughter, she said she was waiting for an answer from me, no matter when or how late it is. I could come to her" Ivar said, so lovingly you believed him yourself and briefly felt he had forgotten what he was actually up to. "Oh, in that case. Frieda will you please come, there is someone here for you" Ivar looked briefly at you as the man went back inside. You couldn't make out his face, but you felt the victorious smile he had thrown at you.
"Ivar?" came the voice of the girl with the scar on her lower lip. "Hi, will you come with me please? I um…" he looked into the house, "Don't want everyone to know" he said and left the doorway. The girl giggled and closed the door before running after him. Ivar stopped between the two houses and took the torch in his other hand, holding it close to his face. He didn't speak until the girl was standing in front of him "You asked me once if I wanted to be with you" You hear the girl speak, but you focus on the feeling as you aim. "Oh Ivar, of course I want to…." that's as far as she got as your arrow lodged in her head. She died instantly, and something inside you died with her.
Ivar did not catch her, he looked at you and indicated that you should disappear. Quickly, but with silent and sure steps, you ran to the other side of the roof. Inwardly, you were counting. When you reached 10, you were already on your way to the great hall. But you could hear Ivar shouting "Help, somebody helps" You smiled and hoped that Ivar was not suspected. It took a long time until Ivar came into his room. He looked exhausted, but when he looked at you, he smiled "It all worked out" now your worry gave way, and you started to smile too.
Tumblr media
The next morning
You hadn't been able to sleep at all, Ivar had been tired, but you both had talked all night, he wanted to distract you, but you didn't need that. And when Ragnar called a meeting early in the morning, you were relieved. "I told you it would work," Ivar said as you made your way into the great hall, you stood with him in the crowd and looked around, Floki came running up to you and took your head in his hands, he looked into your eyes for a long time, then became serious and nodded. You didn't know what it was, but you had a feeling he knew what had really happened. Two men brought a girl inside and stood her in front of Ragnar, she was crying pitifully. Her lips twitched, and it looked as if the mole at the corner of her mouth was bouncing. Floki let go of you and slapped Ivar on the shoulders as he stood behind you.
Ragnar stood up and took a few steps towards the crying girl, "You know why you are here?" he asked, looking at her urgently. The girl shook her head. You looked behind her, a man and a woman were in each other's arms, crying. You couldn't tell if it was her parents, or Frieda's, but you were happy about it. "I didn't do anything," the girl said through her tears. Ragnar took an arrow from one of the men who had brought her in. "This arrow is yours, is it not?" The girl looked at the arrow and nodded slightly, "Yes. But I didn't kill anyone" - "She's lying" the crowd shouted, a woman screamed "She killed my daughter because she was jealous" the girl turned and shouted "No, no I didn't! They were my friends" Ragnar walked to the chair and sat down. "I have heard from several that you were always mean to anyone who had more than you" the girl shook her head "No", The crowd booed and some shouted "Yes she was".
"Since no one saw who did it, but we have evidence against you, we will vote if you are guilty", the girl looked into the crowd, her gaze was on you for a long time "She!.. It was her" she shouted and pointed at you. Floki put a hand on your shoulders and Ivar started to laugh "That's not possible, she was here all the time" a man took a step forward "But you were with us last night, you weren't with her all the time" he pointed at Ivar and then looked at Ragnar. Your heart began to leap faster in your chest. "That's true…" shouted Hvitserk from the other side "I was with those two, when Ivar left I was with her, we were here all the time" You looked at Hvitserk in surprise who nodded at you. You didn't know why he did it, you looked briefly at Ivar who nodded and then looked back at the man.
"You see" Ragnar spoke, "It wasn't her, besides she is almost blind and where would she have got the arrow from if she had nothing to do with the girl?" the man nodded and got back in line with the people. The girl started begging "I beg you, I didn't do it, I had an arrow stolen a few days ago" Ragnar started laughing "We'll vote" he shouted and stood up. The majority were in favor of punishment. You smile as Ragnar stood in front of the girl, "You will be punished, and I am kind enough to let you choose your own punishment. Burn alive or the blood eagle" the girl got down on her knees and cried, her parents tried to get to her, but they were held by the bystanders. "Which do you choose?" asked Ragnar.
There she was, tied to the pyre, and the fire was reflected in your white eyes. Something died inside you with her, but something else grew, never again would you let yourself be treated like this. Not by anyone.

Ivar's childhood was shrouded in a tapestry of dark grays and blacks, a period marked by relentless bullying, discrimination, and a stark absence of love. love. Amid this harsh environment, Aslaug, his devoted mother, stood as one of the few adults who genuinely embraced him. Yet, even her unwavering love couldn't quell the relentless growth of his simmering anger. But, within these somber times, there existed a glimmer of hope - a hope that emerged when you entered his life.
Ivar adored Floki, viewing him as his own father and protector. Whenever the cruelty of both children and adults bore down upon him, Floki served as a steadfast anchor, and so did you. Your friendship started with a shy hesitation.
Helga and Floki, your parents, had taught you to always accept others, no matter how they looked like. You watched your father engage with Ivar, teaching him the art of weaponry and regaling him with Nordic sagas. You had shared them whenever you wanted company and as a result, the two of you became friends.
As the years passed, your bond with Ivar deepened. He shielded you from any unwelcome advances, such as nasty men, while you provided solace during his most challenging moments. Together, you embarked on hunting expeditions, sharing meals at Ivar's dwelling with his family.
Fortunately, his mother held you in high regard. She possessed a strict demeanor when it came to the women who orbited around her beloved sons, yet she understood your unshakable bond with Ivar. With open arms, she welcomed you whenever you graced her home with your cherished friend.
Of course you faced discriminating comments and remarks from time to time because of Ivar, though you stayed by Ivar’s side. You were the only woman who glimpsed Ivar's vulnerabilities, the only girl who had witnessed his anguished tears and experienced the gentleness that lay beneath his hard exterior during your shared childhood.
You knew him, cherished him, and secretly, perhaps even loved him. Yet, you concealed your affections, carrying them within your heart, as your father saw you both as siblings. Sure, you grew up together and were basically one person, but you could also love him, right?
You kept your adoration hidden and you honestly were fine with it because you remained close to Ivar but you always faced struggles when a woman tried to seduce him. You were a strong and loving woman, supporting a man whom few understood or respected.
In recent years, you had devoted your time to the study of science and honed your skills as a healer. Your knowledge extended to various herbs and methods to mend any kind of injury. Ivar sought your counsel frequently, valuing the conversations you shared.
The atmosphere between you was one of relaxation, love, and kindness, something that Ivar rarely encountered in his tumultuous life. He harbored deep emotions for you, but fear held him back. Rejection had been his constant companion throughout life, even from his own father, Ragnar Lothbrok. This fear of rejection crippled him, making him hesitant to express his emotions to you.
One day, your father entered your room with an unusual expression. You initially assumed he was about to share one of Floki's eccentric ideas, as was his habit. Therefore a bright smile creeped over your lovely face, greeting your father. However, what he proposed was far from comforting; it shattered your heart in a matter of seconds.
“I've been thinking about arranging a marriage between you and Ubbe,” he said, his words falling like lead..
You raised your eyebrows, believing that he joked at first but his serious expression remained - he meant it.
“Uh, father. I don’t know if I-,” you began, only to be interrupted by his eager explanation.
“I thought you’d remain close to Ivar and find a man who truly treats you right. I know Ubbe is a good man who will respect you,” he continued.
You pondered his words briefly, acknowledging that Ubbe was a compassionate and respectful man who held women in high regard. During your childhood, you had formed a fondness for him, but it was far from romantic.
No, you truly despised the idea.
“Father, I don't wish to marry," you protested vehemently, rejecting Floki's wishes, which he met with displeasure. You couldn't fathom joining hands with a man you didn't love, especially if it were your true love's brother. The thought left you with an overwhelming sense of unease.
“Child, you've reached a point in your life where you need a man to protect you. You're all on your own, and we're concerned," he voiced his genuine worries. While you understood his concerns, this request felt like an intrusion on your own autonomy, a call you couldn't embrace. You preferred making your parents proud and being a memorable member of Kattegat, but this wasn’t your true faith.
You were bound to none other than Ivar the Boneless, a man whose depths you knew better than your own skills as a healer. As you sat there, Floki's hand swept across his weary face, his gaze avoiding yours as he delivered the unimaginable truth.
“Ubbe has asked for your hand in marriage, and we've already agreed with Aslaug. The decision has been made, my dear," he disclosed, a heavy burden of heartache settling upon you. Tears welled in your eyes, and your cheeks flushed with the ache of this revelation.
“No, Father,” you protested, your voice quivering from the shock of their decision, made without your consent.
“We only want you to be happy," Floki tried to bridge the emotional chasm, but his words fell on deaf ears. You were consumed by fury, your emotions tearing at you, digging a chasm within your heart.
“I’m not!” You cried out, finally allowing your pent-up emotions to pour forth. "I'm not happy, Father. You have a woman you love, and Mother loves you too. Why can't I?” You shouted while tears ran down your soft skin, falling onto the ground. You sobbed uncontrollably.
“No, don’t think that,” Floki tried to console you, his heart aching as he witnessed your distress. After all, you were his beloved daughter, a sweet and loving child he cherished. Right now, you feared the fatherly connection was breaking apart.
“I’m not marrying Ubbe! I’d rather die,” you declared, your voice barely a whisper but loud enough for your father to comprehend. With those words hanging heavily in the air, you rose and fled the room, leaving your father behind. As you left the building you came across Ubbe, who of course knew about the idea before you did, though you rage signalized that you weren’t enlightened.
Floki followed closely, calling your name, but your steps quickened with each utterance. Ultimately, you ran away, seeking refuge in the familiar embrace of the Kattegat forest, a place you knew intimately. You spent a lot of time in the forests and fields to collect herbs and plants, sometimes even staying overnight in summer. With your father, mother, Ubbe, and the impending marriage fading into the background, you retreated into the solitude of the woods. Little did you know your secret significant other just found out about the marriage through Sigurd.
“You’re telling me, y/n is going to marry my brother?” The crackling fire of the fireplace represented Ivar’s slight rage as he received the information.
Sigurd understood that you were Ivar's soft spot, and while he relished the opportunity to tease his brother, he also conveyed the truth. Aslaug had kept this secret from Ivar, knowing precisely what she was doing.
“Yes. Ubbe is the eldest among us brothers, so it only makes sense for him to claim one of the town's most important women, Ivar,” Sigurd explained while deftly carving a sculpture from wood.
Ivar despised the idea entirely, his lips chewed raw as he gazed out the window. It was not Ubbe's right to simply take any woman, especially not you. He believed Ubbe was not meant for your delicate being, no matter how loving, respectful, and kind he might be. At least in the eyes of the Ragnarsson, Ubbe would never be worthy.
As the evening progressed, Ubbe and Floki entered the brothers' home. Ivar remained silent, seething with anger and disappointment. However, he was not Ubbe's primary concern.
“Ubbe, she ran way. I cannot force her,” Floki implored Ubbe to reconsider.
“Floki, it’s not your fault. I love her though, and you know it. I’d treat her with everything she desires and I’ll love the children she will bear,” Ubbe explained, greeting Sigurd and Ivar with a small nod.
“You don't love her if you'll force her to marry you," Ivar's words were cold and stern, his anger barely contained.
“Excuse me?” Ubbe was taken aback by the accusation.
Finally, Ivar’s jealousy piqued and he looked up to his brother, “You heard me. She doesn’t love you. She never will!” His words struck like a shock.
Sigurd, joining the conversation, couldn't resist a taunt, “Oh, are your little feelings hurt because she won’t hop in bed with you? Poor Ivar.”
Oh, how much Ivar hated these people, these cruel brothers who always take his hope away. They rob him of his freedom, his excitement and love. They always seemed to achieve everything, while Ivar was left with nothing but solitude and heartache. As the tension simmered within the dimly lit room, Ivar's words hung heavy in the air, causing a palpable rift between the brothers.
“Ivar, you have no right to dictate her heart. She's a woman with her own choices," Ubbe retorted, his voice carrying an air of defiance.
Ivar scoffed as a response to this unsolicited statement. It wasn’t Ivar who was trying to force himself upon you, it was Ubbe. All his life Ivar did nothing to pressure you or force you to do something. You had been safe around him, no burdens dragging you down when you had spent time together.
Sigurd, needing to provoke Ivar further, leaned in with a sly smile, "Is that so, Ivar? Or are you just afraid she might choose someone else over you?"
The youngest among them decided to not react to the jokes Sigurd made as he intentionally tried to fuel Ivar’s anger. While Ivar was torn between his immense longing for you and the realization that he might never be able to offer you the love and protection you deserved, Ivar couldn't help but feel that marrying Ubbe was wrong. The young Ragnarsson decided to leave the situation, searching for you.
They didn’t, but Ivar did.
Meanwhile, you had found safety in the forest, away from the prying eyes and expectations of your family and the town of Kattegat. There, you wandered aimlessly. As you reached a small, shallow river, you placed yourself on a rock. The silence and peace gave you enough room to reflect on the horrible decision of your parents.
You couldn’t deny your love for Ivar anymore. Whenever you thought about becoming Ubbe’s wife, Ivar’s face popped up on your mind. He was the fragile yet strong man you truly desired with your whole heart.
Tears still covered your face, seeking their way down into the cold water of the river.
It was in this melancholic moment that you spotted a familiar face among the shadows. Ivar’s presence unveiled itself on the other side of the river. His intense blue eyes, filled with a mixture of longing and despair, locked onto yours.
“Y/n,” he called your name out, his voice heavy with emotion.
You blinked a few times and a broken, yet warm smile rushed over your lips. You stood up, jumping over the small width of the river, getting closer to Ivar.
“Ivar…,” you whispered, seating you down next to him.
Even though you appreciated his company, your heart couldn’t bear to look into his loyal eyes. Alone the fact others think you and Ubbe would be a suitable couple made you feel dirty.
Ivar’s eyes remained locked on you, his voice filling the silence between you, “You… you don’t want to marry my brother, right?”
You frantically shook your head as an answer.
Ivar came a little closer, his eyes never leaving yours.
"I can't stand the thought of you being with him," he confessed, his vulnerability laid bare. Jealousy or not, his emotions were genuine and Ivar thrived for your love. Yet, he never told you.
“Ivar,” you whispered, contemplating whether you should reveal your intimate feelings. “Ubbe isn’t the man I want to call husband. Of course he’s intelligent and a wonderful fighter, though…”
Ivar’s soothing voice interjected, “I want you to stay by my side.”
Finally, a massive amount of weight released the both of you, and you widened your eyes in surprise. His confession lightened a fire inside you that you had guessed was already banished. A smile lingered on your lips while you replayed his words again and again in your mind. He asked you to remain his, not to become Ubbe’s woman or anyone else’s.
His eyes expressed his fear of rejection, since you two had shared a unique relationship he couldn’t put together. Your beautiful smile warmed his mind though, letting his hope grow little by little.
Your heart quickened in response to the significant magnetic pull between you. Softly, you said the words you had longed to say the past years.
“Ivar, I love you.”
Without a further word, Ivar reached out, his hand gently cupping your cheek. His touch was both tender and possessive, as if he wanted to memorize every inch of your face. He never held you like this - a whole new level of trust and intimacy unveiled itself. His passion and your admiration mixed together.
Slowly, he leaned in, his lips brushing against yours in a soft, tentative kiss. You didn’t know how a kiss normally feels like, but you knew his kiss was the right thing. His lips were warm and inviting, and his breath mingled with yours, creating an intimate connection that defied the existence of everything but your shared love for one another.
It was a kiss filled with unspoken promises - the weight of unexpressed emotions that were kept hidden for many years. It was a kiss that spoke of a love that had always been there, just waiting to be acknowledged, waiting to bloom, waiting to emerge.
When he gently pulled away, your hearts were racing, and a breathless silence hung between you.
Ivar's eyes stared into yours, filled with a raw intensity that left no room for doubt. He loved you too.
“No one will take your hand, except for me, Ástvinur.”

Ragnar
I think Ragnar likes modern christmas more than he should
He takes it like many non-christians do nowadays – fuck Christianity, i’m getting presents
Might let Athelstan drag him to church
Leaves midway tho
So bad at gift-giving that he accidentally gets you a great one
Lagertha
The BEST gift giver
Has a little table (after you show her how excel works, obvi) of the people she wants to get presents for and tracks their wishes over the course of a year
You need her at Christmas, actually
She doesn’t like the Christian part of it, but she likes the community it creates and GODDAMN Lagertha makes some good food
Athelstan
Vibes to church service HARD, even in modern times
Big enjoyer of WHAM! And Mariah Carey
Makes small, but very thoughtful gifts
Definitely always gets sick around Christmas and wears a bundle of scarves
Please don’t let him shave his head weirdly, or his brain will freeze
Bjorn
Doesn’t like Christmas
He came to the future, you have planes, let him use them
Spends his Christmas in warm places
Honestly, he might enjoy Aussie Christmas
Any excuse for beaches and bbq
Ubbe
If you want to stage a great Christmas celebration, go to Ubbe
Despite being from Viking times, he will be able to organise it better
He likes bringing people together for any occasion, and will be decorating the venue he chose like a PTA-mom with rabies (so, quintessentially, Ubbe)
Does not let snowy grounds stop him from playing football with friends/brothers
Hvitserk
LOVES Christmas
An endless supply of cookies and chocolate? Are you kidding??? The christians got something right?????
Eats everything you leave lying around
On time for everything during Christmas
Honestly, he gets hilarious gifts for everyone
Surprisingly good at singing christmas carols
Honestly, Hvitserk makes friends in all religions so his year of exquisite eating is just
Easter -> Eid -> Midsommar -> Thanksgiving -> Hannukah -> Christmas
Rinse and repeat baby
Sigurd
Spends the entire time critizising the compository value of christmas songs
Has an enemies to lovers arc with them
One day, soon after Christmas Eve, you will find a slightly drunk Sigurd in front of a karaoke machine with a thousand yard stare and the best interpretation of Last Christmas your ears will ever hear
Ivar
Christmas is a capitalist venture for the foolish designed by greedy christians
Totally does not buy super expensive gifts for his friends to brag
That Tesla outside your door? That’s not a Christmas gift silly, he’s sending you down the frozen road as a sacrifice to Odin so his bleeding ears might be saved from Sigurd
Does make an effort to put his mafia-ventures on hold for you though
He still hates Christmas
Floki
HATES CHRISTMAS. Floki hates Christmas so much. Did he already say he hates Christmas?
Hates it so much he secretly loves it.
‘Annoyed’ at Helga for baking cookies with you
‘Annoyed’ at the celebrations and people coming together
He secretly enjoys the non-Christian part of Christmas
But he just can’t get over the Jesus being born thing
Celebrates the part of Easter where he’s dead for a few days
Helga
Loves Christmas, and without shame
Turns into a cookie factory
Handmade gifts for everyone
Does a lot of charity/social work around Christmas
Enjoys ice-skating rinks as well
Tells Floki to stop moping around (he does)

you quickly dailed your phone hoping for the response of your best friend, she had always told you when it came to a moment like this to dial her right away. slowly the phone rang as you got up walking to the bathroom again, “pick up pick up..” you murmured before she picked up the call, “hey! what’s up?” she said through the line, you were now roaming through your closet finding what to wear as you held your phone to your ear tightly. “hey so, this is kind of an emergency.. i need to run to the store really quick..” you said slowly speaking, you heard her say, “uh huh” through the speaker, “..and i missed my period being late for two weeks..and i got a call yesterday about my clinic checkup for my birth control..” you said before your friend gasped loudly, “DONT TELL ME YOU’RE PREGNANT. OH MY GOD!!!” she said squealing as you giggled, “i’m not sure..i’m hoping i am but am hoping am not at the same time..we’ve been talking about it for about a few months now..even when j holds his niece he starts begging me for a baby, am not quite sure yet, lils..” you said, finding an outfit before grabbing the pants and your sweatshirt walking back to the bedroom, the little jingle of flokis collar chasing you around.
“hmm..it’s okay! we’ll see, i’ll come by and pick you up in maybe about twenty to thirty minutes?” she said as you hummed in response, “okay! sounds perfect then, miss sequiera!” she said happily as you blushed at the nickname shes been giving you for the past 2 years of you and joao’s relationship. you giggled, “okay, i’ll be done soon. bye bye.” you said before hanging up, putting on your clothes on. a pair of white loose pants and a brown sweat shirt will do for the day, you looked down at floki who was laying down on the carpet. “you’ve been following me around since yesterday..what’s wrong?” you said bending down to pet his head, he looked up at you as you giggled, “come on, let’s go do your routine of the day.” you said before getting up carefully, hearing the little sounds from his collar he got up as you made your way downstairs.
you walked to the laundry room where his small station of food and treats were placed, something that joão had made ever since you surprised him with floki for his last birthday. you grabbed his bag of food before opening it up as you poured some of his food into his bowl, the small brown dog already doing twirls as you giggled at him before putting his food back up. “here you go..” you said watching him walk to his bowl as he began eating, you giggled before walking to the kitchen finding something to eat, you grabbed the box of strawberries opening it up as you placed a few in a bowl washing them with water. you moved around the kitchen looking for a knife to cut the green stem leaf off as you cut up the strawberries before putting them on your bowl. throwing the access of the fruit into the trash then putting back the strawberries into the fridge before lastly plcing the knife in the sknk.
you sat on the counter isle on the chair, before stuffing your mouth with a strawberry, you heard the little bells again before rolling your eyes watching floki plop down next to your chair. “seriously! what is up with you? you specifically never follow me and it’s mainly joão..” you said before finishing your last strawberry before the brown dog got up running back to his food, you giggled getting off the chair, walking over to the sink placing your bowl in the sink before you made your way to the living room then to the big mirror right infront of the sofa. you stood there for a bit as you rasied your shirt to your tummy, the bump nearly forming..your hand placing on your stomach. “little blip..” you said tapping on your stomach giggling before putting your shirt down, your phone chiming from the text message before looking down at it. lily was already outside waiting for you as you grabbed your stuff before looking down at floki, “you can’t come.. go play with your toy over there, you see it!” you said watching him run off to get it, you giggled again before opening the door and walking out the house, walking to the car and getting in.
“hey there miss sequeira! you ready for your big day..” liliana said smirking at you as you rolled your eyes, “am not too sure about this..” you said putting your seatbelt on, “you’ll be fine! we’ll just run to the store, grab a pack of tests then go to my house since its near the clinic and then we go to the clinic, you’ll be okay. i’ll be with you.” she said smiling at you as you giggled, “okay lets go now!” she said driving to the store, your hands cupping your stomach. is this actually happening? after you constantly, and constantly kept saying when you were younger you wanted a baby yourself. so many stuff going through your mind, you were so distracted you were barely paying attention to what lils was saying. “are you listening?” she said before you looked at her, “oops sorry..” you said before she giggled, “it’s okay.. don’t worry about it, besides your tummy is just right there. you can’t really see it with the baggy clothes you’re wearing. is that what you plan on doing?” she said before turning near the store, “yeah..i don’t think i plan on telling him until maybe soon. i’ll see what we have going on by the next week..” you said before she parked the car. “well that’s good..let’s just run in there grab the tests and then go back home!” she said smiling before you whined.
“ugh..im already scared..” you said before she held your hand, “don’t, i’ll be here like always and watch. i promise.” she said before you smiled before she got out the car, you opened the car door getting out before you two walked inside the store. you grabbed a cart walking to the health area, before looking to the side and there it was. the pregnancy tests. “here grab two just to make sure even tho we’ll be going to the clinic, i’ll pay for them.” she said before you grabbed the blue ones and the pink ones, you gulped not knowing what will happen. “now let me push the cart! i need to grab some stuff from the makeup isle!” she said as you giggled at her reaction before you moved away from the cart letting her push it. “do you need anything else y/n?” she said as you shook your head, “no thanks, i should be okay lils..” you said before she smiled at you, “okay let’s go pag now then!” she said before you followed her behind to the self check out.
you watched her pay the stuff, your eyes never leaving the pregnancy tests before she put them in a seperate bag. “that’s for you miss sequiera, now hold the bag!” liliana said as you blushed smacking her arm playfully, “be quiet..” you said before bursting out a giggle, “let’s go back to my place now..” she said grabbing her bags from the items she purchased as you two walked out the store and into the parking lot, she opened the back of her car putting her bags in. “you’re putting them in the back or taking them with you?” she said as you shook your head, “with me..i need to read the back..” you said as she laughed before you rolled your eyes getting in the passenger seat.
you looked at both tests, the pink and blue one as you gulped. “i’m not too sure about this.. how do i have to hide it from j..” you said before she looked over at you driving to her place, “hmm..for now until whatever you want to do, wear his shirts. after all they’re oversized on you and you cannot tell, so you’ll be okay..” she said, a smile forming in your face before resting your arm against the window then your head, “i even threw up in the fucking morning after me and him had sex last night..” you murmured before she bursted out laughing, “typical y/n and joão activity, who knows what miss or mister baby must’ve felt.” she said as you whined, “oh my god..! please don’t say that.. i’m not even sure right now.” you said covering your face with your hands, coming out muffled as she smiled, “it probably is a baby in you y/n..you’ll be fine.” you said as she parked the car, you sighed loudly before grabbing the bag.
you got out the car before she got out with you, holding onto the bag you went inside. you sighed before grabbing a disposable plastic cup, “you’re peeing into the cup?” she said looking at you, you nodded your head as she shook her head, “THATS THE WHOLE POINT!” you said before she laughed at your temper, “okay okay, go in there and just do what u gotta do.” she said smiling at you, “okay..wish me luckkk..” you said before you walked to the bathroom, opening the door going in.
approximately five to 6 minutes later..
1:26 pm
after placing 3 tests into the cup you washed your hands waiting for the results, “how’s it going in there!” she said before you dried your hands with a towel, “i’m doing okay!” you said before walking over to the cup, you grabbed one of the tests out and..
pregnant.
your eyes widening as you felt your heart racing quickly, before grabbing the other one out again.
pregnant.
you looked at the pink one before grabbing it out the cup, your eyes widening again. all three were positive and confirmed pregnant. you put both three on the counter before opening the door, “let me see..” liliana said as you nodded your head letting her pass through before she looked down at the counter, a happy squeal coming out of her before she hugged you, you were happy as small tears were coming out of you. it felt like a dream, like none of this was happening. an actual human forming in your stomach, she pulled away from you from the hug looking at you. “you’re going to be a mommy, can you believe it!?” she said as you smiled before giggling, “mhm..” you said wiping your tears, “should we go to the clinic now?” she said as you shook your head, “the doctor said to wait dor a call to confirm my appointment..” you said before she nodded her head. you went back in to the bathroom, closing the lids from the test putting them in your bag to hide them for now until surprising joão.
you and liliana were now sitting down outside in her patio enjoying the view and having conversations about what so ever, she was the boyfriend of fermin lopez, your boyfriends best friend you could say, they’re always seen doing things together. suddenly your phone rang before picking it up, “hello?” you spoke, gladly and luckily it was the clinic calling to confirm an appointment for your checkup since you never returned for birth control. “okay thank you! uh huh, bye bye!” you said before hanging up checking the time, 1:50, the appointment would approximately be at 2:30. “should we go now? the drive is about 30 minutes isn’t it?” you said as she shook her head, “about 25, we can go now tho, then we can stop by and get something to eat?” she said before you nodded your head, she got up before you got up as well.
“you nervous?” she said as you shook your head, “not really..hopefully..” you said before she giggled, “you’ll be okay, i’ll be in there with you.” she said as you smiled at her before walking out the house, she unlocked the car..you got in the passenger seat sitting down, closing the door before she made her way to driver seat, sitting down. she started the car, driving off to the clinic. you were playing with your stomach, poking & tapping on it slightly, you weren’t so sure how big or small the baby was or how far along you were. “what’s wrong?” she said as you shook your head, “nothing..checking on the baby..i don’t know if its big or small..” you said as she smiled, “i’m sure it’s small right now, who knows..” she said before you giggled resting your head on the window.
“i guess she or he makes you sleepy?” she said before you nodded your head, “yea..i’ve been sleeping in late..i only woke up early today due to the puking but besides that i’ve slept in til 2pm..” you said as she laughed, “well, who knows what’ll happen more into your adventure, look we’re here now!” you said before you raised your head up, taking your seatbelt off you rubbed your stomach. before getting out the car as lils got out herself, “hold my arm, you’ll be okay y/n..” she said before interlocking your arms with hers, she smiled as you walked in to the clinic. you walked to the front before the nurse at front greeted you, “im checking in for y/n y/l/n..” you said before she nodded her head, “y/n y/l/n?” she said as you nodded you simply said, “yes” she smiled before grabbing a clipboard and a paper, “fill these forms and once you’re done, come back up front and you’ll be waiting with the doctor.” she said smiling before you smiled back, “okay, thank you!” you said grabbing the pen before walking back to lily sitting down on the chair.
“long ass sheet..” liliana murmured as you silently giggled, “really..don’t say that..” you said shaking your head before you read the form as you filled it in, “concerns we should know about?” the paper said before you began writing down the symptoms you were currently experiencing with, you flipped the page before marking off some of the information in the directions. “you’re very quick at these..” she said as you smiled, “i write quickly, what do u expect..” you said before getting up, “miss sequeira always prepared..” she said as you rolled your eyes before she giggled at your reaction, you walked over to the front before turning in your form and the clipboard as you put the pen back in the cup.
2:30 pm
“y/n!” you heard a nurse say your name before you got up as liliana followed you into the little hallway, “step on here please.” the nurse said before making you weight yourself and getting your height, as the usual. you twiddled with your fingers before she finished..you got off the scale as she led you to the small room. “here, you need to take this.” she said giving you a cup, “great another fucking pee in a cup thing..” you thought to yourself as you grabbed the cup from her smiling, “thank you..” you said before she smiled at you walking away, “another test?” liliana said, you nodded your head. “they usually do this.. i’ll be back, she said go into room number four..” you said before liliana nodded her head walking to the room, you walked the opposite direction to the bathroom doing your duty into the cup.
you put the blue lid on top closing it, you washed your hands quickly then drying your palms, opening the door before you saw the same nurse standing outside, “finished miss?” she said before you handed the cup over, she smiled at you. “thank you, the doctor will be with you in a few minutes.” she said smiling again before you smiled back, you walked over to the room number opening the door as liliana looked over at you. “well?” she said before you laughed, “nothing, just wait silly..i know you want to be a tía just from how excited you sound..” you said as she rolled her eyes, “a que no..” (that’s not true..) she said lying, a small giggle coming out of you before you sat on the bed covered with parchment paper.
a few minutes later..
you and liliana were talking before you heard a knock on the door, suddenly the door opened to the doctor. “buenas y/n! no te he mirado en días!” (hello y/n! i haven’t seen you in days!) she said hugging you slightly before you hugged her back, “y está señorita?” (and this young lady?) she said smiling at liliana, “mi amiga.” (my friend.) you said before they both shook hands, “bueno, ahora que regresas. que es lo que ha pasado?” (well, now that you returned. what has happened lately?) she said putting on a pair of gloves, “um well, obviously i missed the birth control appointment..i’ve had sore breasts..my appetite changed, am usually more hungry..i sleep in more..i even have a bit of morning sickness..” you said as the doctor hummed nodding her head, “i see..bueno, lo bueno es que el vaso que usaste voy a hacer unos exámenes y ahorita regreso!” (i see..well, the good thing is the cup you used i will be doing some tests with them, and i will be back!) she said opening the door walking out as you swung your legs against the bed.
“still nervous?” she said as you shook your head, “not really..” you said twiddling with your fingers, “i just don’t want to hide it from joão at all..what if he finds out quickly?” you said before liliana said “nuh uh” quickly, you snickered at the way she said it, “y/n, he won’t find out trust me. as long as you hide the tests in your bag and then wear his clothes, i’ll come by and visit but until now he wont know. how come when im on my period fermin doesnt know til the second day, that’s how busy and dumb they get.” she said before you laughed at her comment, “yeah true..that makes sense..” you said.
“besides, you got this. have you started thinking so far what you’re going to do to surprise him?” she said before you shook your head, “no..not yet..” you said looking down before the door knocked again, you lifted your head up as the doctor came in again, “hola hola! regrese otra vez y bueno tengo buena noticias!” (hello hello! i came back again and i have some good news!) she said as you looked up at her, “you’re pregnant! congratulations!” she said your eyes widening again, now this time it was for real. even tho the tests were also true, it feels more real with this appointment. you smiled before she smiled back, “would you like to see how far along you are?” she said as you nodded your head.
“vale, just lay back down and i’ll get starting on the sonogram.” she said smiling, you laid down against the parchment paper making small ruffled sounds, before she walked over to the area with the computer console turning on the video monitor.. she walked back over turning the lights off for a better view of the screen before she sat on the chair getting closely, “okay, te voy a levantar la camisa un poquito y despues ponerte el gel.. en tu estomago.. vas a sentir un poco de frío.” (okay, i’m going to lift yohr shirt just a bit and then apply gel..on your stomach..you’ll feel a bit of a coldness.) she said before you said a small, “okay” you lifted your shirt up to your belly as you looked down watching apply the cold gooey green gell, you shivered at the small coldness before she grabbed the attached transducer connected to the machine. she began moving the little controller to zoom in as she moved the transducer around the gel, a figure appear. nearly the size of an orb.
“you should see your baby right here..” she said as you looked at the screen, there was somewhat two orbs. “why is there two?” you said confused as she looked at you, “it appears that you’re having twins miss y/n..” she said as liliana gasped, “TWINS!?” she said before she smiled at you, you were shocked and surprised. “t-twins? in my first pregnancy?” you said before she nodded her head, “don’t worry, its very common in some pregnancies and rare..but in this case of scenario, congrats!” she said before you saw illiana taking photos of the ultrasound. “how far a-along a-am i..?” you said before she looked at the screen, “well you’re just starting first trimester, 6 weeks so far so, you’re two months approximately.” she said, your heart dropping. two months and you never knew..that’s strange.. you cleared your throat.
“c-can i hear the heartbeat of both the babies?”
“of course!” she said moving the controller around, “this is baby number one’s heart beat..” she said as you listened to it, the loud heart beat echoing through the room. your heart racing quickly itself listening to your baby’s heartbeat, she zoomed in as you looked at the screen. “baby number one’s arms and legs are already forming!” she said happily as you smiled looking at the baby, its eyes already appearing. “you can also see the nose and eyes as well..” she said smiling.
“..and here is baby number two..” she said moving the controller to the other side of your stomach, it was loud as well. the baby also had its eyes and nose. legs and arms forming. “baby number two is also forming the same as baby number one as well!” she said as you felt tears forming before watching the little image on the screen, “would you want me to take a small photograph of this?” she said as you sniffled, “yes please!” you said before she smiled getting copies of the ultrasound, she grabbed a paper towel removing the gel of your tummy. she cleaned the transducer, “here you go..” she said handing you the photos. you sat up before she lowered your shirt to your tummy, you smiled. “gracias.” you said before she got off the chair turning the lights back on, “well! i’ll be calling for your next appointment! the babies are doing well and they’re healthy, i’ll give you this little foldable for you to see what you can do and eat while your babies are in your stomach, have a good day miss y/l/n!” she said as you smiled, “thank you! you as well!” before she left as you wiped your tears.
“i’m gonna be a tia..you’re the mami! isn’t that exciting!!?” she said before you bursted out crying out of happiness, liliana walking over to you, hugging you. “it’s okay..you’ll be fine..” she said before you sniffled, “i-i’m just happy..i have to start thinking tho of what to do..” you said before she smiled, “mhmmm, now let’s go and get lunch for you and the little babies.” she said as you giggled before you two walked out the room and outside the clinic.

after going out for almost the whole day it was nearly about time for joão and illianas boyfriend to be home, “what’s up?” she said looking at you, “my tummy feels way fuller than i usually get..” you said before she giggled, “well..you just fed yourself and the babies..it’s okay y/n.. he won’t notice..” iliana said as you giggled, “mhmm..” you said almost falling asleep, “hey..wake up! we’re about to get to your home..” she said as you sighed, huffing out. she parked the car before you sighed out, “too tired..” you murmured before she laughed, “come on now, you have to go..” she said as you sat up, you rubbed your eyes before she unlocked the doors. “well..i’ll be going now..i’ll talk to you soon about the surprise planning..” you said grabbing your stuff as she smiled, “sounds good!” lils said before you hugged her, “thank you again..” you said before you unbuckled your belt, “bye!” you said opening the door, as she waved at you before you waved back closing the door before running back inside, you opened the door getting in the house as floki ran over to you.
“hii there..did you miss me..” you said as he began to jump on your legs, you giggled holding him as you heard footsteps from upstairs. joão is home. you thought in your head before going upstairs, floki following you from the sounds of his collar as you opened the door. “when’d you get home early baby..” you said as he chuckled, “he let us out early, what were you doing out tho..you look so gorgeous..” he said getting up, a giggle coming out of you. “my baby..” he said kissing you, you kissed back cupping his cheek before you smiled against his lips. “i’m tired j..can we take a nap..” you said as he looked down at you, “of course hermosa..” he said picking you up, you were in a giggling mess before he placed you down on the bed. “let me go change into something comfortable.. then we can sleep in baby..” you said as he nodded his head before plopping himself on the bed, you grabbed your purse placing it on your shelf.
luckily he never asked you anything, you smiled to yourself before rubbing your stomach, “my babies..” you said sighing out before you changed into one of joão’s white shirts and just your panties, you walked to the bed before crawling on the bed, crawling to your spot. you laid next to joão before looking at him, “hm?” he said as you blushed, “n-nada..” you said kissing his cheek, “floki keeps following me around..” you murmured watching the brown dog struggle to get on the bed before he jumped on the bed running to the middle, running around and plopping himself down. “he just loves you like his daddy does..don’t worry anjo..” he said kissing your cheek before you nuzzled your head into his chest.
you were nearly falling asleep feeling joãos hands rub your back and play with your hair, you hummed in your sleep. “sleep with me..” you murmured as he chuckled, “fine fine..” he said before you fell asleep on him, your head resting on his chest. he kissed your forehead before he fell asleep on you.
what a good way to hide such a small family of four without him knowing..
