Hanwei – River Witham Sword
The River Witham Sword was dredged from the River Witham near the town of Lincoln during work carried out in 1788. The sword may be a remnant of the Battle of Lincoln in 1141; however, it was most likely constructed between 1250-1300 CE. The inscription on both sides of the blade reads +NDXOXCHMDRCHDXORVI+. The blade is crafted from 1566 high carbon steel which is both tempered and sharpened. The guard and pommel are stainless steel and the grip is wood which is bound in leather. The sword is matched with a wooden scabbard which is bound in leather and completed with stainless steel fittings and steel hanging rings.

alright, i'll do it.
I'll go off the deep end over the argument scene
Tumblr media
First and foremost: they're kinda both in the wrong, obviously. But also kinda both in the right?
Macaque, is in the right for being upset that Wukong didn't listen to him, that Wukong drove himself to this point, etc etc. He, even, is not the one to start this argument, and instead approached peacefully, and attempted to leave when he was getting irritated. It was Wukong that pushed him over the edge into blowing up at him.
He even leaves afterwards, which, actually, is technically the right course of action. In a healthy relationship (platonic or romantic) it'd be best to give both parties time to cool off, and then return and discuss the issues calmly to find a solution.
The main problem is; they don't do this. Macaque doesn't come back, and Wukong doesn't cool off.
On the other hand, Wukong is in the right for being mad, mad that Macaque isn't working to free him (cause, from his position, it sure seems like he isn't), and is instead 'wasting time'. Mad that Macaque would dare to say he was dragged into a mess when he isn't the one trapped under a mountain. (On some level, mad at himself, likely, for letting all this happen).
He, of course, doesn't have the choice to leave, so instead he's left.
The core issue here, as is usual with most relationships shown in media; is their lack of communication. Wukong didn't truly listen to Macaque, and Macaque was too upset to understand Wukong's side of the issue.
...And they let this fester.
Of course, this isn't the end of the falling apart between them. No, there's more to this, the show makes this adamantly clear with MK trying to get Macaque to tell him "what happened between them".
Things continued after this, this was just the barest tipping point.
So. Macaque (probably) didn't come back.
We don't know why. We don't know if it was his choice, based on hearing Wukong yell that he "never wants to see your face again", or if it wasn't his choice, if something else happened.
So Wukong is left alone.
It is shown, in Journey to the West, that Wukong is prone to anger.
Quite usually, this is his response to most situations that upset him (followed later by crying), anger and destruction is usually his first response.
Whether viewed under an "autistic Wukong" lense or a "traumatized Wukong" lense, this makes perfect sense.
It's even shown in the show, if you look at the early pieces of flashback art that show bits of the Journey, you can see that Wukong looks pissed in most of them, and that he slowly starts to look happier as the images go on, as, in the story, he worked on this issue, and got better, less angry, less prone to immediately resort to violence.
(Notably, as far as I remember, the tipping point for when he slowly starts becoming less violent literally is the Macaque Chapter. Interesting, huh?)
Wukong, likely, logically knows that there was nothing Macaque could do to free him. Emotionally, though?
He's going to be upset the next time he sees him. And when he's upset, he's prone to anger.
Macaque, on the other hand, is going to see Wukong, with the Journey to the West group, slowly becoming a better person, old parts of him returning, creating someone new. Wukong... changed for these people, he listens to them.
But not for him. Wukong didn't change for him, and he never listened to him.
So. They meet again. We're not sure how. We don't know if that whole thing of Macaque pretending to be Wukong and attacking the JTTW gang is still actually a thing in Monkie Kid. It's possible he might do it out of jealousy, but we're not sure if it happens.
Maybe Macaque came to Wukong for help. Maybe Wukong, still mad about being left behind, refused. (I consider this possible based on the the way the special shows Macaque when MK says that "Monkey King would try to save us if one of us was trapped" + his reaction to MK saying he'd never abandon his friend in s3ep10. It's possible he's regretting not trying harder to free Wukong, but...)
We don't know.
What we do know is, they fought, and Wukong, in the end, successfully killed Macaque.
A Key thing this show hasn't brought up though is... how.
Shadow Play, vaguely, implies that it might've been via his Kaiju Form.
Notably, we are now at the point where Wukong, who, once again notably, has the most memorable Kaiju Form within the story of Journey To The West, is the only one of the three monkeys in this show who hasn't used their Kaiju Form.
We've been told, quite a few times, actually, that Wukong is holding back.
He held back against Nezha. He held back in episode 9, in the fight against Macaque. Even when he was possessed he wasn't using his full power- we're outright told that Wukong was fighting her control the whole time- he couldn't do that while also going at full power.
We've never seen Wukong go all out in the show.
...Why?
Why would the most powerful character, of all time, not use that power to defeat world-ending threats? Why would he choose to not pull out all the stops?
...
("You can't just ignore your power because you're afraid of it.")
Why else, would he not be using his full power, if it wasn't what killed his best friend?

imagine how dorian felt during that whole kerfuffle
Two days ago, his brother died and the Crown Keepers separated, all because of the Spider Queen.
A couple of hours ago, he and Orym reminisced about how Orym put a blade to his chest and told him not to put the crown on his head. Something that Dorian is clearly grateful for now. ("Otherwise, I wouldn't be here right now")
Now, he woke up to two of his friends fighting. Then, Laudna claims that the blade on Orym's back will corrupt him "just like it corrupted Otohan." He's still catching up on everything, but he knows that's the name of the person who killed Orym's husband and father. To put it simply, he just heard that Orym may become corrupt like his family's killer was because of a sword.
And here's the thing: He's seen a real cursed item before. He's felt the lure of one and has seen/experienced the consequences of holding onto one. His brother's death was one of those consequences 2 days ago! And now there's apparently another cursed item that's on his "very good friend's" back. The same "very good friend" who he just talked about the crown with. The same "very good friend" who put a blade to his chest so long ago.
Then later, it turns out that the item Laudna was so insistent on being cursed (to the point of injuring another party member [be it unintentional]) is actually not cursed.
Now he's listening to Laudna talk about how she wants to take the blade in energy while belittling Orym for taking it in hand. (Yes, I am aware that this is very simplified)
After all this, Dorian finally gives his opinion.
I think [Orym] should keep it. It's just a thing. I'm so tired of things having control over us. You two are friends. It was his to possess and you tried to steal it from him... It is just a thing. Its history doesn't shape us. Our actions do. [Laudna's] actions tell me that [she did] not have enough trust in [her] friends... What would it have mattered if [Otohon] cut him down with a handaxe or a stick from the street? It was not the thing that did the action. It was the person. It does not matter.
I believe that there are two routes to Dorian's mindset
Gilmore's Wisdom: When the Crown Keepers discuss the circlet with Gilmore, he says something very interesting. "The Spider Queen herself is dark, is evil, but the vestige is simply power, and it is whatever you make it into. Power simply is." (E1x03).
Orym's Threat: Orym confronted him when he saw that he could hold the circlet without issue. He put a sword to his chest and told him to put it down. Dorian did so, saying, "I care about you more than this" (E1x05).
Dorian's point is a combination of those two things. To put it simply, Dorian's point was that friends are more important than objects because objects are just things.
And before I see anyone else blabbering about how Dorian is a hypocrite because of how Cyrus died, Opal didn't kill him, and neither did the circlet itself. It was the Spider Queen that killed him.
During all this, he discovered that Orym, Fearne, Laudna, and Chetney had died due to the blade. He also discovered that Orym made a deal with Fearne's grandmother "to help [them] do the things that [they] have to do. Hopefully in the next episode, Dorian is able to fully process all that information
Side Note: In between those words, Dorian admits that he doesn't fully understand the situation ("You do not know what you speak." "I do not"). Apparently, this is a hot take, but I think that him being the outsider of the situation made him the most clear-headed of the group. He wasn't hurt by Ottahan like the rest of Bells Hells had been. So, he has the least biased view of the bunch (still biased but not as biased as the others).
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk!

I’ve been bamboozled by English again. I thought ‘cicada’ had the same A sound twice in a row. Exactly the same, but the ‘ca’ would be pronounced like the one in ‘car’.
Nope, I’m wrong for assuming, apparently.

Iron Sword with Bronze Fittings from Dorset, England dated to the 1st Century CE on display at the British Museum in London, England
This large straight bladed Roman sword has Celtic style decorations on the hilt fittings. The Roman garrison at Hod Hill in Dorset included detachments of both auxiliary cavalry and legionaries. The sword may have belonged to a soldier of either unit, though its size is perhaps better adapted to use by a cavalry trooper. A metallographic examination reveally no evidence for hardening of the cutting edges.

out of EVERYthing this season i wanna discuss more aziraphale and crowley making what they think is the smollest miracle ever and it turning to be the biggest most powerful 'class A' miracle, making both heaven and hell think GABRIEL popped off and did it himself so they just HAVE to send all the archangels AND a fucking legion of demons to manage it, only for both sides to fail against them and not see through the miracle AT ALL so the fucking metatron has to get up from his non existent ass, make himself a body and prepare a plan to manipulate mansplain malewife aziraphale, and make sure the husbands go separate ways so they're less likely to figure out how powerful they are when they actually work together and not for eachother... together, it's only a matter of time before they work it out and start fucking shit up, thus probably becoming the number 1 threat and attack force against The Second Coming, and the metatron knows that. and with couples of angels and demons happening left and right, he can't let the fact that such associations or relationships are not only possible, but also stronger and more powerful than anyone in headoffice. so he lets beelz and gabriel leave, and arranges a lie or a trap to break up aziraphale and crowley and silence the whole thing.
idk what neil is planning for zira and crowley powerwise, but honestly, if he goes with something cliche like "the power of love is stronger than God's will" i will be completely ON BOARD BCZ YOU KNOW WHAT???? what is the ONLY thing that could end aziraphale's and crowley's miracle?? the power of beelzebub's and gabriel's love. beelz recognized the fucking fly and told gabriel to "open it" so it could restore gabriel WITH his memory of beelzebub, thus dissolving the now worthless miracle... that miracle, made possible only bc two beings loved eachother, could only be broken by the only other two beings in love with eachother in this universe. and that makes me so fucking excited* for season 3.
*scared shitless :)

Study of two 17th Century swords; an English ‘mortuary sword’ and a Dutch ‘Walloon’ sword.
Tumblr media
The mortuary sword was unique to British Isles and saw extensive use in the English Civil war.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The walloon sword is believed to have originated in Germany and become popular during the 30 Years War that devastated the German States. It is characterised by an asymmetrical disk guard, thumb ring, a knuckle bow and side branches making a rudimentary basket hilt. The shells of the guard are often solid or pierced.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This sword is a later variant of the type and has dispensed with the side branches. The shell guards are separate pieces pressed into the outer rings. The ricasso is stamped with the Amsterdam coat of arms misleading early collectors into believing that they were for the Amsterdam town guard. However considering the number of this exact type survive, too many were made to just supply a city militia.  Current thinking is that the stamp represents a quality control put on the imported blades (Solingen being the most likely source) before local cutlers mounted them with hilts.
Tumblr media
The term ‘walloon sword’ is believed to have come from the French who adopted a sword of this style in the late 17th Century or early 18th Cent. and called it the ‘epee de walloon.’
Tumblr media
‘Mortuary sword’ is believed to have been coined in the late 19th Century with the exact reasoning behind the name unknown.
