My updated rankings/reviews of all the k dramas I have seen so far (up to 54 now). I would recommend any show I gave a C grade or higher, which is most of them. I bolded recently added shows.
1. Hometown Cha Cha Cha: An absolute masterpiece. It’s a heartwarming fish out of water story about a big city girl who finds herself in the quirkiest little seaside town. I wanted to stay in Gongjin forever. Grade: A+(Netflix)
2. Extraordinary Attorney Woo (S1): Delightful! Never have I ever rooted for a lead harder. She is the most endearing lead you will ever find. And the male lead is so so swoony. Grade: A+(Netflix)
3. Alchemy of Souls: The wildest of rides and the perfect blend of fantasy, adventure, mystery, comedy, and romance. The characters are just so lovable, you’ll never want it to end. Season 2 just as good as Season 1. Grade: A+ (Netflix)
4. Love To Hate You: New fastest binge of my life. 10 episodes and I didn’t fast forward at all. There were no bad/slow parts. Also the funniest KDrama I’ve ever seen. Just watch it. You won’t regret it. Grade A+ (Netflix).
5. My Demon: This show had me utterly enthralled, it was so mysterious and suspenseful and yet incredibly goofy and romantic. My new favorite main couple in all KDrama land. Yes it wasn’t perfect but I enjoyed it so much, it really encapsulated everything I love in a tv show. Grade: A (Netflix)
6. Business Proposal: It’s got every trope you can think of and it does them all to perfection. Plus it’s hilarious. Grade: A (Netflix)
7. Healer: This super romantic action mystery drama will keep you on the edge of your seat. Ji Chang Wook is equal parts sexy and adorable which is a seriously winning combination. Grade A (Viki). One caveat: I was very disappointed by a certain wardrobe decision in episode 3.
8.Her Private Life: Super funny and charming. The romantic leads have incredible chemistry. The premise is so good! Might be the one of the most rewatchable kdramas. Grade: A (Netflix)
9. Castaway Diva: Just utterly heartwarming. An instant classic. Ultimate underdog, redemption, story that teaches us what real love and family is. Also Ki-Ho is the new standard by which all men will be judged. Grade: A (Netflix)
10. Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung: Great strong female lead. Very good messages. Couldn’t stop watching. The most adorable prince I’ve ever seen 💜Cha Eunwoo💜 Grade: A (Netflix)
11. Bad Prosecutor: Absolutely thrilling and hilarious. It’s like a heist, detective, lawyer, action comedy that will keep you wondering who is outsmarting who? Super shocking plot twists. Amazing OST. Stuck the landing with a truly satisfying finale. Grade A (Viki)
12. Sh**ting Stars: Probable the biggest turnaround of any show I’ve seen (The “Africa” part was so problematic). However it turned out to be one of the funniest and swooniest KDramas out there. There are 5 couples and you will cheer for all of them. Grade: A- (Viki)
13. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon: The main couple is absolutely everything! Just fast forward through pretty much every side plot (they are not important) and you’ll love it. Grade: A- (Viki)
14. So I Married the Anti-Fan: It’s campy, fluffy, goodness, with a fierce female lead and a K-pop star enemy/love interest. 2nd fastest binge of my life. Grade: A- (Viki)
15. 100 Days My Prince: An absolute classic period drama romcom. Who knew D.O. could kiss like that? Such a great strong female lead. I LOVE a show with adorable, quirky, townspeople. Grade: A- (Netflix)
16. Romance is a Bonus Book: Might be the most romantic K-Drama I’ve ever seen. Nothing about the trailer or setup intrigued me but I’m so glad I watched it anyway. It was a truly beautiful love story. Grade: A- (Netflix)
17. Because This Is My First Life: This drama really does everything right for me… A slow burn romance built on mutual love and respect. Supporting characters who I genuinely cared about and had incredible side stories of their own. A critique of the patriarchy. Women supporting women. An adorable cat. Maybe a bit melodramatic at times but not too much. Grade A- (Netflix)
18. Start-Up: Exceptional acting, compelling storylines, intriguing plot twists, great cinematography, intense love triangle. It’s just all around high quality. Grade: A- (Netflix)
19. Run On: Cute, fun, silly and pretty light. I especially loved the supporting cast. Strange storyline but it was a fun easy ride. Grade: A- (Netflix)
20. Forbidden Marriage: This is a weird show, but weird in the best way. It’s like a comedy, horror, romance, fictional-historical. I don’t know how to describe it but it’s really fun. B+(Viki)
21. Soundtrack #1: Short and beautiful. I just loved it. No one does heart eyes better than Park Hyung-Sik. Grade: B+(Disney+)
22. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo: A bad-ass yet vulnerable female lead. The main couple just had a lot of fun together. Refreshing. Grade: B+ (Viki)
23. Doctor Slump: This show was a really nice journey of both mental health and romance. Grade: B+ (Netflix)
24. Welcome to Samdalri: Very heartwarming and beautiful story about love, family, friendship, and going home. It has quirky townspeople and Ji Chang Wook 😍 what’s not to love? Grade: B+ (Netflix)
25. My Lovely Liar: Creative and engaging premise, intriguing mystery, and a swoon worthy romance. A very fun viewing experience. Grade: B+ (Viki)
26. King the Land: This drama pretty much has no stakes or conflict and the main couple has THE MOST chemistry I have ever seen in my entire life. So if you just want to turn your brain off and be happy, this is the drama for you. I absolutely loved it. Grade: B+ (Netflix)
27.Law Cafe: This drama has so much to love, a strong/fierce/brilliant and morally righteous female lead, lovable side characters, steamy romance. But what I loved most was how the show spotlighted important issues like consent and abuse in nuanced and progressive ways. Yes it’s a fun rom-com but it felt like the beginning of a new chapter of more egalitarian storytelling which made me really excited for the future of k-dramas. Grade: B+ (Viki)
28. Not Others: A lovely Gilmore Girls type show about the relationship between an immature mother and her very mature adult daughter. It was a pleasure seeing them grow in their relationships with each other, others, and themselves. I want more! Grade B+ (Viki)
29. Cheer Up: Sports, comedy, romance, mystery, suspense, coming of age, this show had everything. The female lead was the lovable, feisty, driven, and brave. The male lead was adorkable, considerate, and sweet. It’s all very enjoyable and wholesome. Grade: B+ (Viki)
30. I Am Not A Robot: Zany premise but it was surprisingly pretty grounded for how crazy the set up was. It’s funny, emotional, good story telling. Great character development. Grade: B+ (Viki)
31. See You in My 19th Life: The shared experience of watching this mystical mystery drama week to week made it a really enjoyable watch. Not sure if it was totally satisfying, or that any of the couples’ chemistry felt authentic, but it was a very interesting and creative storyline. Grade B (Netflix)
32. Summer Strike: This show made me cry a lot. It’s heartbreaking yet healing. I’m still not sure if I liked watching it or not but it was a beautiful story of found family. Grade B (Netflix).
33. Shopping King Louie: Adorable! So many light fluffy feels for this show but it does drag a bit in the second half. Grade B (Viki)
34, Fight For My Way: Such lovable leads. Love the fierce female lead and adorable himbo male lead. It’s like a coming of age story but for 30 year olds. Storyline was ok. Second couple was skippable. Grade: B (Viki)
35. What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim: More PSJ is always a good thing. This drama did all the tropes in ways that didn’t always feel fresh, but it was very romantic and hilarious. A true classic. Grade: B (Viki)
36. Touch Your Heart: If you can just stick it out through the first few very shaky episodes, you will enjoy this adorable, fluffy, series. Grade: B- (Netflix)
37. Doom at Your Service: It was sometimes real sad yet ultimately a heart warming mystical story. Grade: B- (Viki)
38. True Beauty: Fun, cute, teen drama however, it’s a little too “antsy teen” for me. Cha Eunwoo though💜 Grade: C+ (Viki)
39. Destined With You: The chemistry between the main couple was absolutely sizzling. Rowoon was both hilarious and next level adorable. However, the plot and the characterization of women occasionally made me very frustrated. Grade: C+ (Netflix).
40. Suspicious Partner: Great story, great characters, attractive actors, beautiful romance, interesting plot, sometimes funny, sometimes suspenseful, but with 40 episodes, the plot was dragged. Grade C+ (Viki)
41. Crash Landing On You: The first half is GREAT but the second half is way too melodramatic for my taste. It’s a very interesting storyline, the main couple has insane chemistry, and there are very lovable side characters. Grade: C+ (Netflix)
42. Secret Romantic Guesthouse: First few episodes were a fun scooby gang mystery, middle episodes were super boring, last 3 episodes were crazy fast paced and thrilling. It ended well- I’ll give it that. Grade: C (Viki)
43. Dear.M: It was inoffensive and decently entertaining. If you like school dramas, you’ll probably enjoy it. Grade: C (Viki).
44. A Good Day To Be A Dog: The storyline is bonkers but very intriguing. It started off so well but the storyline lost its way in the back half. But hey, Cha Eunwoo + dogs, it’s worth the watch. Grade: C (Viki).
45. Angel’s Last Mission: Love: This drama was very similar to Doom At Your Service but it was more a bit more redundant with all of the tragedy and crying. I LOVED the chemistry of the main couple but I found myself fast forwarding a lot. Grade: C- (Viki)
46. Marry My Husband: Episodes 1-11 were phenomenal. Such an interesting premise with shocking twists and turns. After episode 11 it seemed like there were new writers who had never seen the show. Very disappointing but top tier villains. Grade: C-
47. Our Beloved Summer: I LOVED V’s “Christmas Tree” OST however I struggled to keep watching. Boring storyline but great acting. Grade: D+ (Netflix)
48. Heavenly Idol: An absolute hot mess. It was completely convoluted and just low quality but I also weirdly liked it. I can’t bring myself to rank it higher because I know how bad it was but I actually enjoyed it better than many shows I ranked ahead of it. Grade: D+ (Viki)
49. My Secret Romance: The story of a total screw up female lead falling for a manipulative, gaslighting, hottie. It was problematic yet fun? So 🤷‍♀️ Grade: D+ (Netflix)
50. My Man Is Cupid: Pros: many cute dogs, sometimes those dogs wear human clothes, cute ending. Cons: Makes no sense, not much chemistry, murder plot takes up too much time. Grade D+ (Prime).
51. She Would Never Know: As handsome as Rowoon is, I found his character problematic at the beginning (no means no buddy) but he did get a lot better as the show went on. I just ended up skipping to watch just the scenes with the main couple, which made the show way more enjoyable. Grade D (Netflix)
52. My Love From the Star: I found myself fast forwarding a lot through all the parts that didn’t involve the main couple and most of the flashbacks. Grade D (Viki)
53. Goblin: The age gap is too disturbing for me, like call the police disturbing. However, the Grim Reaper who is one of the most adorable characters I’ve ever seen. Grade: D- (Viki)
54. Extra-Ordinary You: I have never felt so betrayed by a second half of a series as I did in this one. All of the character development that it seemed to be leading to was replaced by a pretty sickening codependent relationship. Grade: D- (Viki).
Currently Watching: Wedding Impossible (I think I like it)
Dramas I’m Thinking About Watching: Gaus Electronics, Bad and Crazy, Hospital Playlist, Another Miss Oh, Oh My Venus, My Roommate is Gumiho, She Was Pretty, Crash Course in Romance, Soundtrack #2, Queen of Tears
Dramas I just couldn’t Finish (I’m sorry I tried): Today’s Webtoon, Once Upon a Small Town, Love in Contract, Hotel Del Luna, Kings Affection, Record of Youth, Behind Your Touch, Sparkling Watermelon, Tale of Nine Tailed 1938, Strong Girl Nam Soon, The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract
What are your thoughts on these shows? Do you agree or disagree with my rankings? Any k-romcom recommendations that are not on the list yet?

When Youbngwoo gave TSM her speech and said “you weren’t a good mother to me” I found myself wishing for something different.
I wish the convo went more like “You didn’t choose me, but you chose Sang Hyun. You made that choice, so stick by him, be good to him.”

Cognito Watch Party:
Warnings: sfw, movie genres and references to thrillers, horror films, trashy tv and shows
Content: sfw, television and movie choices, various themes and genres of television and film
Reagan Ridley:
- Movies: unironically loves cult classic “bad films” that’re more popular but lower in quality. Also loves some psychological thrillers, animation, & sci-if stuff and watches them like comfort movies. Reagan watches: Space Jam + the sequel, Silence of the Lambs, The Shining, Grown Ups + Grown Ups 2, Inception, Don’t Look Up, All Dogs Go To Heaven, The Usual Suspects, Ghostbusters I-III, Austin Powers Saga, Harry Potter franchise, and War Dogs.
- TV: Reagan watches documentaries/docuseries, thrillers, clever and dark comedies, and animated shows, and series that get a little therapeutic for her. Therapy seems a bit of a stretch but seeing the family bullshit of others through Fleabag and Shameless help her lots. Reagan Watches: Ozark, Manhunt: Unabomber, The Legend of Korra, Arrested Development, Fleabag, Schitt’s Creek, Drunk History, History of Swear Words, Love Death + Robots, Forged In Fire, Shameless, Arcane, Black Mirror, Mindhunter, Community, and Russian Doll.
Brett Hand:
- Movies: I see this man loving 80’s feel-good flicks and Adam Sandler films. Like mindless, kitschy comedy and classics. Also watches trashy romcoms. Brett watches: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Breakfast Club, The Outsiders, The Goonies, Stand By Me, The Sandlot, Top Gun & Maverick, Happy Gilmore, Grown Ups, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, Star Wars (original trilogy), Spaceballs, Die Hard, and Ghostbusters I-III.
- TV: hes a feel-good show person, avoiding spooky or stress-inducing shows and tv that could freak him out. He goes for mindless comedy that’s more domestic, preferring sitcom. Especially family centric ones! Brett watches: Modern Family, The Office, F.R.I.E.N.D.S., Cheers, The Umbrella Academy, and Stranger Things. Also watches Parks and Rec, The Good Place, New Girl, King Of the Hill, M.A.D. tv, Bob’s Burgers, Robot Chicken, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Gravity Falls.
JR Scheimpough:
- Movies: Watches the classics™️ + organized crime films + white men movies. I don’t see him as a movie watcher like frequently but they’re some of the films he’d choose on a flight or commuting. JR watches: The Godfather part I & II, Casino, Goodfellas, Wolf of Wallstreet, American Psycho, Legally Blonde, Fight Club, The Usual Suspects, Scarface, Heat, The Longest Yard, Silence of the Lambs. He’s also got a soft spot for Finding Nemo, The Devil Wears Prada, Monty Python movies, and Sabrina (both the black & white film and the 90s one)
- TV: This man watches docuseries, drama shows, period dramas, and some business comedies. It’s a blend of boss-workplace dramatics and humor, historical drama, period pieces, and just little bits and pieces that get him laughing and forgetting about his day a bit. JR watches: Suits, Billions, Peaky Blinders, Ozark, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Succession, The Pentaverate, The Crown, The Wire, Ted Lasso, Barry, Fleabag, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Gigi Thompson:
- Movies: She’s got the wildest blend of gory slashers and feel-good chick flicks. Unsettlingly funny and ironic. Gigi’s just as giddy and smiley when watching the slashers as she is with seeing Elle Woods pass the LSAT. Movie night truly do be wild with this babe. Gigi watches: Legally Blonde, Carrie, Cujo, Mean Girls, Clueless, The Shining, Silence of the Lambs, Hush, The Exorcist, The Omen, Pretty Woman, When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, Sabrina (the 90s version), New York Minute, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, The Ring, The Conjuring, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloweeen, Insidious, Sweet Home Alabama, and Candyman.
- TV: Similar taste in shows as she had with movies but sprinkles in boss bitch shows and avoids thriller or scary shows. She prefers the drama ones and avoids reality tv after the whole K*rdashian fiasco, preferring to keep celebrities far away from her and seen only on a screen. Gigi watches: Gossip Girl, Succession, Billions, Suits, 30 Rock, Veep, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Fleabag, Bridgerton, Disenchantment, First Kill, Dynasty, Ginny and Georgia, You, Insatiable, Villanelle, Inventing Anna, The Queen’s Gambit, and The Chair.
Andre Lee:
- Movies: Silly comedies, romcoms, and comedic coming of age stories. It’s a big ass blend of movies and films that he likes and watches, from spooky to silly and sexy to childish. Andre watches: Monty Python, Jackass, Fantastic Fungi, Osmosis Jones, The Wolf of Wallstreet, Shrek Saga, When Harry Met Sally, Steel Magnolias, Wayne’s World, Caddyshack, Animal House, Hush, The Boy, Fifty Shades of Grey, Ferngully, The Princess and the Frog, and Die Hard.
- TV: Andre watches Euphoria while getting high as blatant irony to the plot line. He thinks he’s hilarious. He also has variating taste of genres, kitschy comedy, animated shows, mindless shit. Half the time it’s stuff to get high to and other times it’s stuff he leaves on in the background. Andre watches: Disenchantment, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gossip Girl, The Midnight Gospel, Narcos, Gilmore Girls, Total Drama, Tear Along the Dotted Line, Disjointed, The Simpsons, Saiki K, Grace and Frankie, M*A*S*H*, Kim’s Convenience, and Euphoria.
Robotus Alpha Beta:
- Movies: not going to lie, he doesn’t seem like a movie man? Like he’s one to watch them half-heartedly if it’s with you or a group, but he won’t go out of his way to watch a movie. Televisions a bit different for him. I think Ro can be lured into certain movies and he may watch some of your favorites on his own time to better understand you, but personally? Not for him. But if it came to it, Robotus watches: your favorites
- TV: he likes semi-mindless comedies and sitcoms??? He’s seen the foils of man in milliseconds and tries to avoid all the stuff he’s encountered. In turn, he goes to things that’re funny or dramatic that can remind him subtly of those he’s, ugh, friends with, and how they’ve made humanity more bearable. Robotus watches: The Umbrella Academy, Seinfeld, F.R.I.E.N.D.S., Frasier, Succession, Modern Family, Fleabag, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Boys, and Derry Girls.
Glenn Dolphman:
- Movies: Watches history documentaries, war films, military propaganda films, and period dramas. Also watches southern films too, for some nostalgia and comfort. Reminds him of his mumma’. Glenn watches: Steel Magnolias, A Few Good Men, Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, Fried Green Tomatoes, The Help, The Notebook, Smokey and the Bandit, Jaws, Hacksaw Ridge, The Shawshank Redemption, Dunkirk, Jackie, Spencer.
- TV: mix of history shows, docuseries, military and law enforcement shows, and silly comedies. Some shows are for the similar dynamics to work, to his military life, and etc. others he just enjoys. Strange silly man. Glenn watches: Law and Order NCIS, The Sons of Liberty, Turn: Washington’s Spies, Downtown Abbey, Young Sheldon, Community, Space Force, The Pentaverate, Will and Grace, The Lincoln Lawyer, Bridgerton, Squid Game, and unironically, everything during shark week. And of course, M*A*S*H*
Magic Myc:
- Movies: a Blend of truly random shit that’s somewhat nostalgic but also a crackpot of dumb bullshittery that fits his persona wholly and completely. It’s funny and stupid and clever and smarmy. Just like him!! Myc watches: Animal House, Fantastic Fungi, Grown Ups, Don’t Look Up, Monty Python and the Holy Grail + The Life of Brian, The Usual Suspects, Harry Potter franchise, When Harry Met Sally, 10 Things I Hate About You, The Omen, The Birds, Casablanca, and Chucky.
- TV: i feel that he and Andre hang out and watch shit together but mainly talk shit, like get high or just sit around on a couch and absolutely pick apart whatever stupid shitbirds are running around on the screen. They’ll also make rituals of watching certain shows together and if they tv-cheat they get PISSED. Myc watches: Forged In Fire, The Umbrella Academy, Love It Or List It, Stranger Things, Total Drama, The Midnight Gospel, Bob’s Burgers, Master Chef, Chopped, Cutthroat Kitchen, House Hunters, Cowboy Bebop, Clone High, Amphibia, Gravity Falls, Robot Chicken, Love Death + Robots, America Ninja Warrior, Arrested Development, The Voice, America’s Got Talent, and Squid Game.

Greetings! My name is Lulubelle Doorn, you may call me Elle for short! I go by she/they as pronouns, INTP is my personality trait, and I'm on my legal age. I'm near to the skripshit era, so I might, sometimes, do vent about college life. My account is SFW but I prefer to mingle with fellow legal-age since I'm afraid that I'm using harsh words without me noticing. I also play Genshin, so I welcome to thosw who'd like to do coop with me [heart eyes].
My account is LGBTQIA++ friendly, if you're homophobic please do softblock me. I do not welcome to those who fethisizing of the queer community, likely to spread negativity—even engage yourself with drama, and those who can't respect one's preferences. I also do retweet about random things, if you're not comfortable with it, feel free to BUB me. I do listen to a few artists: Ariana Grande, Tulus, Maudy Ayunda, Stray Kids, GOT7, IZ*ONE, Chase Atlantic, BIBI, Paul Kim, TWICE, and many more! I'm not a cinephile, but in terms of movies I prefer mystery and comedy, generally I watch K-Drama/Movies. I'm also a fan of kind-of slow-burn plot movies! my favourites are Little Forest, Lady Vengeance, and Kill Bill.

all of them. if you’re gonna play that way.
Oh I'll play this way.
How many books did you read this year?
So far 89, but I'm hoping to get to 100
2. Did you reread anything? What?
Not this year. I have so many books I haven't even read once.
3. What were your top five books of the year?
So far: People like us - Valts Ernštreits, Yellowface - RF Kuang, Wolf in White Van - John Darnielle, Heritage Aesthetics - Anthony Anaxagorou, and A Kind of Spark - Elle McNicoll.
In no particular order. I actually haven't liked a lot of books I read this year, but at least it means I've got rid of a lot of books (I bought even more but shh).
4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?
Elle McNicoll, Kaoru Mori
5. What genre did you read the most of?
Poetry or nonfiction
6. Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to?
There's a whole pile next to my bed rip
7. What was your average Goodreads rating? Does it seem accurate?
I don't know, that goodreads end-of-year stuff hasn't come out yet
8. Did you meet any of your reading goals? Which ones?
Not yet, I'm still 11 books off
9. Did you get into any new genres?
No, but I read more manga than I used to
10. What was your favorite new release of the year?
Yellowface and Safiyyah's War. Tbh most books released this year that I want to read are still buried in my tbr 11. What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read?
I suppose Planet of Exile by Ursula K le Guin
12. Any books that disappointed you?
Oh boy. Anything by Arthur Miller, Devolution, War of the Worlds, Heart of Darkness. Devolution in particular
13. What were your least favorite books of the year?
Heart of Darkness was a load of Wank. The Midas Touch also sucked
14. What books do you want to finish before the year is over?
City of Illusions, and my costume reference books
15. Did you read any books that were nominated for or won awards this year (Booker, Women’s Prize, National Book Award, Pulitzer, Hugo, etc.)? What did you think of them?
I honestly have no idea.
16. What is the most over-hyped book you read this year?
Heart of Darkness. Joseph Conrad can gargle my balls
17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?
The first 2/3rds of Devolution before it went weird and Z!on!st. Also An American Sunrise by Joy Harjo and Clouds Cannot Cover Us by Jay Hulme
18. How many books did you buy?
Hahahahahhaa
19. Did you use your library?
Once. I borrowed Lapvona
20. What was your most anticipated release? Did it meet your expectations?
Yellowface was really good
21. Did you participate in or watch any booklr, booktube, or book twitter drama?
I did at the start but funny enough I unfollowed pretty much all the booktubers I followed. I just don't care about their opinions anymore, especially with horror. I do tend to have a peek at any drama I happen to see.
22. What’s the longest book you read?
Apparently, it was My Brother's Husband, Vol 2. The second longest was Vol 1. Good manga, very touching.
23. What’s the fastest time it took you to read a book?
It took a few minutes to read Who Will Comfort Toffle
24. Did you DNF anything? Why?
Quite a few things. Some of the stuff was poorly written, or old books that were full of racism, or I just decided the book was bad and not worth the time it would take to read.
25. What reading goals do you have for next year?
I'd like to read 60 books, and also finish my own book

and with these acceptances... we officially have a full house! the main will be henceforth be in a bit of a lull until we decide that new skeletons, wanted connections, or re-opened roles are in order; and upon that point, we can only hope to receive a fraction of the love we've garnered thus far. thank you, thank you.
CONGRATULATIONS... you're back on the suspect list!
elle, for muse c, as madelyn cline.
elle, your aesthetics truly captured the vaguely unhinged, tunnel-visioned nature of muse c, and the length that you gave us for each of your prompts showed an obvious love of the character. she's tragic, she's a mess, she's the moment, the drama... but what will it take for her to finally start looking for a gentle, caring love? more tragedy?
b, for muse k, as danika pienaar.
maia (mj if you're nasty) has so many interesting ways for their plots to go, and who can resist a sexy, high-femme elle woods type ivy league lawyer? not to mention, i'm a real sucker for a legacy kid (derogatory) in this sort of town. she won't fit in well, no; she'll dig a spot for herself by force and do it with manicured nails, and i'm stoked to watch that.

The Forbidden Marriage is incredibly weird and quirky and I love it. The 3 leads seem to be in 3 different genres: the female lead is in a slapstick comedy, the prince is in a tragedy/horror, and guard is in a romance.

EAW (Season 1) is Finished
My relevant notes, for whatever they’re worth, regarding my re-watch of the final episodes of EAW - I’m gonna avoid talking about moments that I feel were OOC for the most part (except the most glaringly obvious examples - YES I’M TALKING ABOUT MINWOO, WE’RE GOIONG THERE), because there’s enough debate about it and it’s all mostly open to personal interpretation anyways. But I’m gonna try to hit the big points, what improvements I hope to see in Season 2, and then I’m gonna share a little conspiracy theory that I’d love to get other’s opinions on. (this is a long post)
As an autistic that loves k dramas and romance, I was beyond excited - and also incredibly trepidatious - when this drama was first recommended to me on my Netflix home screen. The first 10ish episodes are by far the best in my estimation, and I can at least say for certain I will be re-watching those. The second half of the season ... gives me more mixed feelings.
- Hanbada is the big bad. I saw a post a while back (I’m sorry, I tried to find it but I like and reblog too many things! 😭) talking about how Hanbada is the big bad (bc social justice, fighting for the people, anti-capitalism, etc etc) and I think this is absolutely the direction they’re going. We’re not supposed to have rosy tinted glasses on about where Woo Youngwoo works - and perhaps this also kind of tied into Minwoo’s initial purpose in the show.
I’ve noticed more and more as each case comes about that I am less and less on Hanbada’s side; I think it’s partly why they talked early on in the series about the conundrum of morals & ethics so many times, exploring the grey area in many ways, and also pointed out that while Hanbada does take on a lot of public interest cases, at the end of the day - they’re a business and making money/winning cases comes first before anything else. The reveal that the CEO is pretty ruthless and has no issue using WYW as a chess piece against TSM, only heightens my distrust of the firm. Ultimately I see Season 2 digging even more into that (why the fuck are these two powerhouse women beefing anyway?) and I think it’s going to heavily tie in with Youngwoo’s growth as a lawyer and HOPEFULLY THIS WILL ALSO INCLUDE ATTORNEY JUNG ☺️✨
- The Tae Su Mi Dilemma. I don’t like that she’s portrayed negatively for not wanting to have a baby in the first place, but that’s generally where my defense of her ends. The minute she learned about WYW she tried to have her shipped off because of her own political desires and she can fuck right off with that. And then the plotting in the shadows with Minwoo that eventually fell apart ... But to be honest, I feel like the show didn’t have a clue what they were doing with TSM’s character; the show painted TSM as this badass powerhouse of a character but at the same time reduces her to the simple title of mother and I feel like that sends mixed messages to me as the viewer. I’m guessing that they were aiming for a morally grey vibe, but she ends up just kind of reading as ... muddy to me.
However, even though TSM stepped down from the Minister of Justice candidacy, do we really think she’s just gonna move on and let Hanbada’s CEO out-maneuver her??? I think not. More than anything TSM has been characterized as political and calculating so I think there will be more clashing between the two of them in Season 2.
- The Minwoo Redemption.
*I walk on the stage and check the mic, clears throat*
THAT. Was not a redemption arc. That was a guy who quite literally just suddenly stopped being a huge gigantic ass. Randomly. And then they threw in a love line for shits and giggles and were like “love and romance will fix him and his problems”.
No. Rejected. I fully rejected that and I think Minwoo’s storyline and the TSM vs CEO storyline are some of the most poorly done ones on the show. Minwoo out and out tried to frame Youngwoo and get her fired in episode 12 (I believe it was) and then in episode 14 he’s biting his tongue so he doesn’t spill her deep dark secret while he’s tipsy???? The math ain’t mathin’. Taking accountability for wrong you’ve done is a big part of being redeemed and Minwoo hasn’t had to take accountability for SHIT. I’m not saying he needs to prostrate himself before WYW and beg for forgiveness, but I am not happy about the 🤷‍♀️’guess he’s cool now’🤷‍♀️ narrative that’s being portrayed. The guy should be like “yeah, that thing I did was fucked up”, at the very least! The bar is so low y’all 😭
I hope they develop him more in Season 2 - a true redemption arc could be well done if some real work was put into his character development. For some reason I’m envisioning a scenario where Soo-yeon’s dad tries to bribe him; Idk enough about his background to know if that would make sense story-wise, but it would be interesting if he was put into the position of choosing between his crush and explicit money/power - which is what he’s always wanted. If they’re really gonna try to redeem him and make him a character I don’t wrinkle my nose at every-time he appears on my screen (no hate to the actor, he’s obviously done a fantastic job) - give me something meaty 🥩 give me grief and desire and conflict and none of this wamby pamby “well if this is what Soo-yeon wants, I guess I’ll do it” nonsense.
which, just as a side note, Minwoo and Soo-yeon having a ‘romantic moment’ while bonding over Youngwoo’s sPeCiAl TrEaTmEnT (literally right after she was KICKED OFF A CASE) is not, and never will be, the move. #sorrynotsorry 🤷‍♀️
- I love Attorney Jung, but he needs to slow the fuck down. You love him, I love him, we all agree he’s been a great mentor and teacher and that’s where his strength lies. I’m not even terribly mad about the Cancer storyline because he lived and it gave us that amazing found family scene with the noodles 🍜 😭 (I wanted to eat noodles so bad after that ep!) However, while the wink wink nudge nudge he gave us at the end was funny, boi better be taking a break! He doesn’t have to quit working entirely, but he does need to slow down - and I’d love to see him leave to start his own practice or go work with Attorney Ryu at hers. He can still do important and meaningful work without running himself ragged to do so, or working for large money hungry corporation that will make him sacrifice his integrity - and! He can take Attorney Woo with him. ✨ Their work dynamic was my favorite by the end of the show. Pre-episode 12-16, it would’ve been Youngwoo and Junho’s but we really didn’t see as much of that comradery from them during the second half.
sidenote: did anyone else notice that Jung would start waving his arm (almost in a time out gesture) whenever he saw people might be offended by something Youngwoo said? like *waves hand* “she doesn’t mean it like that” - I thought this was so cute and a great acting choice
- The love confession and the cat thing. I’ve tried to find this analogy charming but I just can’t. I read a post explaining the translation difference between ‘owner’ and ‘butler’ and while that does seem like a cute cultural reference I just might not be getting, I can’t get past what the comparison signifies for me, personally. It reminded me of a tiktok I watched, criticizing pop-culture and more main stream media for constantly portraying the neurodivergent and autistic characters as an “other”, as ‘not human’ - the list going on from robots, to aliens, to animals or monsters.
In Star Trek, its Spock (alien) and Data (android). In Marvel, it’s Groot (alien), Drax (alien), Mantis (alien), Rocket Raccoon (animal? Science lab experiment? 😬), and Vision (AI). And those are some cool characters - don’t get me wrong, but if you knock out every single one that is A) not human and/or B) a gigantic asshole, that leaves very few characters left for me to try to see myself in. Even in Woo Youngwoo’s analogy that she explains to TSM, everyone involved is a whale - she’s just a different species of whale. And in the opening credits of the show - they always show a blue duck among a bunch of yellow ducks. There are many ways to indicate someone being different without isolating them from the human experience. So yeah, it rubs me wrong seeing another show fall into that trap even in a teeny tiny way, but worse than that *for me* - a cat and its butler, or caretaker which seems to be the underlying message, are not equals. And that’s one thing I know a lot of us wanted for Woo Youngwoo. More than anything we wanted a romance for her where she was an equal partner, not someone who needed to be watched after. If I squint a little bit I can kinda understand what they were *trying* to convey but this just ... missed the mark for me. You are all more than welcome to feel differently, of course.
And ironically - almost in direct contrast to my discomfort with the cat analogy - immediately preceding the scene is when Youngwoo leaves the car to confront TSM but as she goes, she looks back at Junho. She leaves, off to discover her next moment of wonder - to do her job, but she looks back at him. She’s reminding him that she knows he’s there, that she cares. She’s showing Junho that even though her wonderful brilliant beautiful self is off on another quest, she hasn’t forgotten him - when so many times before in this show she’s run off without notice or concern (not saying that's a bad thing; just pointing out the change) and now she’s giving him a sweet acknowledgement of his presence in her life. And the way Junho teared up seeing her do that 😭 It was that part - more than anything else - that gave me warm fuzzies and made me think “yeah, they can do this.”
I’m happy that our whale couple made it back to each other but damn, does it feel bitter sweet in a lot of ways. It’s a strange headspace for me to be in with this show, for it to make me uncomfy but also happy at varying levels during different moments.
What I would like to see in Season 2:
- Little brother Sang Hyun and Woo Youngwoo: Youngwoo’s reaction to being called Noona 😭 (instantly she was like, “I must protecc!”) was heartfelt and relatable. I loved them. I want more of them. I want to see them interact and eat kimbap together.
sidenote: I defo think Sang Hyun and TSM are autistic and I’d love for the show to really lean into that more in S2
- Junho needs to meet her dad and be let in on the family secret cause I dislike that it was MINWOO of all people who recognized how heavy it was for Youngwoo to be working a case with her bio-mom and half brother, and then to have to be the one to interrogate him! It was so stressful.
- Woo Youngwoo’s independence: A big motivator for me to continue watching was because of Youngwoo’s personal development; I wanted to see her continue to grow, to become more independent and self sufficient as time went on. Wasn’t she at one point talking about moving out of her dad’s place and staying by herself? I guess that got thrown out because they weren’t sure if she could afford it but our girl is a fulltime attorney now so I really hope that’s on the agenda! She doesn’t have to live alone, she could even move in with Dong Geurami!!! Which I would personally love because we didn’t get nearly enough WYW and DGR scenes in the-episodes-that-shall-not-be-named.
- For the love of god stop cutting off the conclusions of formative discussions surrounding Youngwoo and Junho’s relationship! and please show them having more functional communication cause wow I’m still scarred from the-episodes-that-shall-not-be-named. And if the writers start out Season 2 with more writing like THAT ... then I will put on a party hat cause I will be the clowniest of clowns 🤡
My tinfoil hat theory: it literally feels like different writers were working on some unexpected storylines starting around episode 13. I don’t know much about filming schedules or anything but I do know that some things can be filmed beforehand and changed afterwards depending on where they want the show to go based on public response. I can’t help but wonder if after the praise they got, and they knew a second season was highly likely, that they changed some things around to drag it out more and leave something to delve into during S2. I keep thinking about what Soo-yeon said to Minwoo in Jeju; “I almost called the police and had you arrested for acting so out of character!” (or something along those lines). I could be way off but that feels very on the nose; and if Minwoo’s storyline ending up changing last minute, it would make sense to me.
In Conclusion: If this were a stand alone season, I don’t think I could be satisfied with how it ended.
But! They have been given a second season, and I hope they take the opportunity to improve the things they dropped the ball on. It’s not a chance a lot of dramas get, so I hope they grab it with both hands.
I may not necessarily be running to my Netflix when S2 drops. I’ll probably feel more inclined to wait it out a bit and gauge how it’s going based on other’s reactions but I’m surprised to say (given how painful some of these episodes were to re-watch - that lunch with Junho’s sister will live in infamy - eek!) I’m actually not opposed to checking in again to see what all these characters are up to in 2024.
Taking the good with the bad, is my stance for now I suppose.

SWANFIRE APPRECIATION WEEK 2021 (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・✧゚゚
🦢🔥 Day Six: Actors AU or Social Media AU // “I haven't ever really found a place that I call home, I never stick around quite long enough to make it”
Emma Swan and Neal Cassidy have one of the most sweetest relationships in Hollywood. The kind that actually make you believe in true love. They even share the same birth year and might even seem fated for each other, having crossed paths in the past more than once even before The Thief Who Stole My Heart. The pair constantly made headlines for all the right reasons, given that they’re not only insanely talented, but also incredibly smitten with one another.
Here’s everything you need to know about the adorable pair!
Eleven years ago, Emma made a cameo in Neal Cassidy’s hit show, Neverland. She appeared in the last episode. However, they did not meet on set.
They finally met in 2008 on The Ellen DeGeneres Show where both were promoting their own shows. Neal explained what ran through his mind when they first met. “I met her and I was so nervous. I was like “Oh god, I think I’m going to fall in love with her”.
In 2009, both attended the Golden Globes Awards, where they sat next to each other and were both awarded on their own category, they even shared a few moments on stage, the pair walking together felt like a foreshadowing of flames to come. Years later Emma said that her reaction wasn’t all that different “At some point we were alone at the backstage and that was it. He just stood there and made me laugh. I kind of knew right away”.
Neal Cassidy and Emma Swan were confirmed to star in the movie, Once Upon a Time in 2011, the first time they would officially work together! The reports also revealed that Neal decided to work on the film because Emma was going to do it! Once Upon a Time became known for Emma and Neal’s on-screen chemistry despite the plot calling for them to relate to each other through a monitor. Fans wished for a project that would allow them to film more scenes together in real life.
The movie premiered in September 2012 with a good reception. The movie surpassed all expectations and the couple shared on social media their celebrations. Dating rumors began soon after Once Upon a Time as the couple spent a lot of time together at promotional events. Around this time, Emma posted a lot of photos with her co-star on Instagram.
In March 2013 (Neal’s birthday month) an online post about the couple surfaced claiming that Emma and Neal had been seen traveling together in New York, and even dinned together with Emma’s parents. A photo of the couple grocery shopping together also circulated online. However, the rumors were denied, with claims that it was mere coincidence for the two to be in the same place, that both were just really good friends.
A few months later they showed up for the first time in public after the rumors. When they were chosen to be ambassadors of the same brand!
In 2014, fans rejoiced as Neal and Emma were confirmed for a new project together: The Thief Who Stole My Heart. The series premiered worldwide in December 2015 and instantly became a massive hit. The couple’s romantic plot line stirred dating rumors again. The show’s finale with Emma and Neal looking like a happily married couple, was too good for viewers not to wish it was true.
Following the release of The Thief Who Stole My Heart, both won Best Lead Actor and Actress in a Drama/Comedy Series at the Emmy Awards. Ss the show kept winning all sort of awards. On New Year’s Day of 2017 a popular magazine claimed that Neal and Emma have been dating for about eight months. The couple confirmed the news with a sweet post on their social media’s accounts.
Emma Swan and Neal Cassidy were engaged less than a year after they confirmed their relationship, with Neal proposing in Tallahassee. “She did cry after I cried and we cried and everyone around us was crying” Neal told Access Hollywood of the exact moment he proposed to her “at the end of the day, she said yes, which is great. It’s a big part of the whole thing”
In 2018, Neal and Emma tied the knot in a very private ceremony on the beach.
Nearly three years into her marriage with Neal, Emma opened up about their relationship on the cover of Elle “Meeting Neal really changed my life, when I feel his support, I feel invincible. There’s someone behind you on your good days and in front of you on your bad days”.
The pair became parents on August 2020, welcoming their son Henry into the world. Neal choose Twitter to excitedly share the news.
The couple appeared again after two years to attend the SAG awards, where both were nominated for their respective project. That night was important since Emma was nominated for the first time as a Director.
Last year Neal confirmed that he and Emma would be working together again. On a project that he wrote and Swan will direct. Unsurprisingly, the internet went wild for it. We can’t wait to watch their new movie.

The Red Palace by June Hur (April 2022)
Tumblr media
Joseon (Korea), 1758. There are few options available to illegitimate daughters in the capital city, but through hard work and study, eighteen-year-old Hyeon has earned a position as a palace nurse. All she wants is to keep her head down, do a good job, and perhaps finally win her estranged father's approval.
But Hyeon is suddenly thrust into the dark and dangerous world of court politics when someone murders four women in a single night, and the prime suspect is Hyeon's closest friend and mentor. Determined to prove her beloved teacher's innocence, Hyeon launches her own secret investigation.
In her hunt for the truth, she encounters Eojin, a young police inspector also searching for the killer. When evidence begins to point to the Crown Prince himself as the murderer, Hyeon and Eojin must work together to search the darkest corners of the palace to uncover the deadly secrets behind the bloodshed.
Would I recommend it to anyone? Yes, I really liked this book and I'd recommend it to people who like historical mysteries. Especially if you like Korea or are curious about it.
Level of (dis)satisfaction based on the summary and my expectations? Honestly, I was just very curious and I wanted the mystery to stay a mystery for as long as possible. I hate guessing correctly half of the plot by page 10 and this story delivered. So I was agreeably surprised.
My thoughts on it? The plot was very nicely executed, I was still trying to guess who the culprit was almost until the end. Everything that happened around the investigation (Hyeon's relationship with her parents and Eojin, the secondary characters...) everything was so well done, I loved this book.
I have to add that, as someone who knows nothing about Korean culture or history outside of the 3 k-dramas I've watched in my life, I had no troubles keeping up. Even when there were Korean words or expressions it wasn't a problem because they were always followed by a little translation or explanation, or I could understand through context. I really appreciated that because it shows that June Hur wrote her book with the plebs who don't know a thing about Korea in mind. Plus, it didn't cut into the flow of the story or the sentences, it was very smooth.
