1. drive my car (2021) - Ryusuke Hamaguchi

un viaje de 179 minutossss dónde el protagonista es un fumador viudo con problemas de vista que dirige una obra de teatro y maneja un carro rojooooo super viejo que solo lo deja manejar por otra chica y se ayudan mutuamente durante su búsqueda en sanar heridas emocionales wowwwwwwwww y sencillamente el cine asiático chef kiss 💋. en algún momento de la peli sentí que también iba a audicionar para la obra de kafuku, incluso se siente cada momento de felicidad, tristeza e ira de una forma tan personalll. siempre estarán en mi corazón.

2. everything everywhere all at once (2022) - Daniel²

LA TENGO A FLOR DE PIEELLLLL. no me importa si dicen q está overrated porque sencillamente merece todas las más altas valoraciones. ojalá gane el oscar el otro año y la nominen a mejor costume design porque LOS OUTFITS, LOS COLORES, LAS ENERGIASSS. el hecho de que sea sobre multiversos y Marvel le quedó pendejo por un momento, la hizo una experiencia mágica, encima que maneja un humor tan raro pero que funcionó muy bien en mi. luego en el final me encontré chillando muy feo y me hizo un recorderis de mis mommy issues. para mí está peli sanó algo dentro de mi. pdta: te amo Evelyn, eres el mejor personaje en el mundo del cine

3. mommy (2014) - Xavier Dolan

duele tanto ver cada momento de esta peliiii, nunca olvidaré la escena desgarrante de cuando cambia el tamaño del ratio de la imagen (no se si se diga así, no se de cine pero se abría la pantalla por completo después de comenzó con otro tamaño de pantalla más pequeño) Y EL SIGNIFICADO FUE TAN IMPACTANTE de verdad que xavier jugó con la estabilidad emocional por 5 largos minutos y tuvo el descaro de poner experience de fondo (porfavor escuchenla) nono es inexplicable lo que sentí. ni hablar de su soundtrack tan espectacular, con solo decir que suena born to die y wonderwall THAT'S GAY SHIT BRO. yo no puedo decir más porque es algo que se tiene que vivir a ojos cerrados. fuí literalmente lo q dice i not the same person i was one movie ago.

4. Howl's moving castle (2004) - Hayao Miyazaki

ghibli me ha bautizado de muchas maneras pero está ha sido LA MAS BELLAAA ^^. tan agradecida con la vida de llamarme igual que el amor de la vida de Howl y es que cada que veo la peli y escucho su sofi sonrio como una bobaaaaa y pataleo los pies en el aire. yo llamaría a esto un verdadero hogar donde las brujas son solo señoras que necesitan creer en el amor, un príncipe hechizado que vivió muchos años siendo un espantapájaros, una llama de leña con un humor y un niño q se cree un mago viejito y el plottttttt del final demuestra el amor tan genuino de sophie y howl destinados a encontrarse y amarse por siempre. la vería milllll veces sin cansarme.

SHE'S A STARRRRRRRRRR 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟. pearl son todas las chicas que quieren salir a comerse el mundo pero la sociedad es injusta yyyy mia goth hizo esto por mi. sinceramente no me simpatizó la muerte de los animales tbh no tenía q dejar q el cerdo se llenará de gusanos !!!!!!! pero la entiendo su forma de canalizar sus emociones como la escena del comedor omg se sintió tan real. es un si total y espero poder seguir sonriendo por ella

Activistas de los Derechos de Transgéneros: Sylvia Rivera y Sage Grace Dolan-Sandrino

Sylvia Rivera (Nac. 2 de Julio en 1951) fue una activista Puertorriqueña y Venezolana en el barrio del Bronx en Nueva York. Ella conoció a Marsha P. Johnson, quien ambos participaban en Los Disturbios de Stonewall en 1969. Ella fundo el Frente de Liberación Gay en 1970, una organización que empezó en Nueva York para la protección de lesbianas y gays. Los disturbios fueron un momento mejor en la historia de la comunidad LGBTQ+, y son recordados por el Sylvia Rivera Law Project y su retrado en La Galeria Nacional de Retratos en Washington D.C. Ella es la primera persona transgénero en la Galeria.

Sage Grace Dolan-Sandrino (Nac. 22 de Sept. en 2000) es una activista Afro-Cubana y oradora de los derechos de los jóvenes en la comunidad LGBT. Cuando tuvo 13 años, salió al mundo como una mujer transgénera a fuerza. Los oficiales de su escuela se dijieron que tuvo un trastorno mental y la sacaron de la escuela. Ella sirvio como una embajadora en la iniciativa de la Casa Blanca para la programa Educational Excellence for African Americans, y tiene un episodio en una seria en Disney + llamado “Growing Up” para su experiencias.

Bèsties i Marta Marco

Surto de veure ‘Bèsties’, l’obra de teatre escrita per Marta Dolan, dirigida per Pau Roca i interpretada MAGISTRALMENT BÉ per la Marta Marco. Mira, començo dient-ho ja d’entrada perquè porto tot el trajecte en metro i fins a casa pensant-ho: la Marta Marco és la puta ama.

És un monòleg, parlant en propietat, d’una horeta que passa súper bé, és com que la Marta et fa entrar en una mena de realitat paral·lela en què en cap moment deixes de ser tu, espectadora i objecte actiu, i ella és una psicòloga i ens parla del mateix món que coneix ella, tu, i la Marta Marco. I et parla de les xarxes, de la pressió estètica, dels push-ups de Women’secret a partir de 8 anys. I et parla dels referents inconscients que prens en els actes quotidians de casa teva, quan veus els teus pares…

És que és fort, just ahir dinava amb els meus pares i parlàvem precisament d’això. Em refereixo a que els pares -tots els del món, ho diu també la Marta Marco! Bueno la psicòloga de ‘Bèsties’- activament prenen decisions davant dels seus fills, per allò que es diu de ‘donar exemple’. Però ser un referent no només passa per evitar les paraulotes davant les criatures o per deixar seure la gent gran al transport públic i dir després “sempre has de deixar seure la gent gran”, també crea aquest “referent” una cosa tan tonta com: quines lectures omplen la casa? Diaris, revistes o tablets i mòbils? Són petites “tonteries” que després descobreixes que en realitat són peces del puzzle que t’ha conformat com l’adulta que ets.

Aquest monòleg no busca donar respostes a res, sinó que és una invitació a convetir en pensaments temes que (potser) haurem d’abordar en un futur no massa llunyà. Dilemes morals que molt tenen a veure amb la pressió de les xarxes, i que si heu vist Years and Years sabreu per on vull anar, temes que ara semblen bizarros però que en el fons posen els pèls de punta perquè en realitat no són impossibles.

La Marta et posa davant del mirall i et fa qüestionar-te coses que incomoden, que no t’havies plantejat mai. Una nena de 8 anys es vol posar tetes. Què en penses? Què en pensem com a societat? N’hem de pensar algo? I prendre mesures? Contra què o qui? Hem de buscar culpables? Culpem la mare? La nena? Les tetes? Els homes? El capitalisme? I el moment de… un cop la nena s’ha fet pits nous als seus 8 anys, què fem? “De qui són aquelles tetes? De la nena? De la mare? Ha de decidir un jutge que en fem?” Pregunta la Marta Marco. Ai mira de veritat, tot el trajecte en metro que el cervell m’ha donat voltes sense acabar de treure’n aigua clara. I que interessant el procés i que guai quan el teatre serveix per això, quan en fins i tot tres moments del monòleg m’he trobat fent-me jo preguntes i havent-me de recordar que havia d’escoltar la Marta Marco o em perdria la història.

La recomano… però no cometeu el mateix error que jo d’anar-hi sola! Que és de les obres que val molt la pena sortir-ne i cascar-te un sopar de 2h (15 min de jalo i una hora i 45 de debat en bona companyia)!

OC Love Interests

Alright, so last Medieval AU post I mention having four different romantic interests for Basil.

I figured to go ahead and go through each of them, what their own stories are (because why not?), the dynamic any of them could have with Basil, and how the heck I ended up with FOUR of them.

Our ladies, everyone.

Going from left to right, we’ll start off with Pearl Lupine.

I already mentioned in a previous post that her mother gave her poisons during her childhood to get her to build a tolerance to some toxins, but there’s a lot more to that. Pearl Lupine’s father is a spy with his own information ring in London and her mother’s a former assassin. Pearl herself ends up being a detective. Needless to say, her father certainly isn’t happy with it and while her mother’s come around to the idea, it’s still with some hesitation. Her cases are usually those that deal with the ‘someone’s dead or is thought to be dead’ category of crime, usually helped with her familiarity with poisons and background information thanks to her parents’ trying to train her for their own respective careers, and she herself has quite the self-relearning to do when it comes to her childhood versus a ‘normal’ one that others have experienced.

I’ve often gone back and forth on the idea of giving Pearl a sibling or a first cousin, but decided not to. Mostly due to the fact that her personal story really only works if she’s an only child. Especially in her interactions with Basil.

I have no doubt of there being some sense of rivalry between the two, and the more the two could know from each other, their similarities could make or break them. The two might not approach a case the exact same way (in fact I imagine given the majority of the cases seen in the GMD comics/Sherlock cases versus the cases Pearl usually takes, they’d likely rarely even come across the same crime) but they are both intelligent and have similar amount of energy. On the other hand, Pearl’s own story does give her some trust issues and envy at Basil, and Basil’s ego and smugness would likely enhance the latter feeling in Pearl. That said, the two could be decent colleagues, and given Basil claiming Dawson as his partner in crime-solving and letting people grow on him, it could be possible of Pearl getting used to trust people around her.

Next we have Ella Dolan:

Ella’s the daughter of Inspector Dolan of Scotland Yard, taking great joy in being a dancer at the Royal Opera House. There’s a lot of inspiration from Mademoiselle Relda in this character, though granted a dancer instead of a singer. She’s certainly playful in comparison to Basil’s seriousness, but is very protective of her co-workers and friends. I have plans for using her as a sort of ‘Meg Giry’ to the ‘Christine’ in my idea for a GMD Phantom of the Opera fic. Her joy in dancing is a great motivator for her when it comes around to that story and she’s fiercely passionate when the idea of the opera house being threaten comes into play.

Aside from being playful to Basil’s serious, I do think they’d have very few common interests, such as music or word play. I don’t think that’d be too much of an issue for the two of them. No, what would be an issue brought up between Basil and Ella would be the slight difference. Ironically enough, when thinking through on Ella’s character, she kind of became an opposite to Pearl in a way, especially in backstory. Where Pearl comes from mice that are pretty much criminals and strives to solve crimes, Ella comes from a family of law-abiders and law-enforcers and yet she herself does a few rather not-so legal ways to protect those around her. Which may or may not come into conflict with Basil.

Though that might not end up being the only thing. You see, I originally drew Ella up as a possible love interest for someone else. That being our next lady in question:

Annette Dawson

So, yeah I made Dawson a daughter OC. And originally, she was not meant to be a possible love interest for Basil. But I’ll get to that in a bit.

The only child between Doctor David Dawson and his ex-wife Yvette, Annette began the career of a governess rather young in order to both teach children and avoid marriage. I already have the fanfiction where the she and Basil meet written up on AO3, and maybe I’ll also post the chapters here as well, but she takes her career as a governess seriously when it comes to educating as well as protecting her pupils. There’s a decent amount of inspiration from Violet Hunter in the Sherlock Holmes case "The Adventure of the Copper Beeches." (By the way, drinking game for anyone, take a shot anytime there’s a ‘Violet’ in a Holmes case. You won’t get drunk, but it’ll certainly give a buzz.)

Annette was not originally meant to be a possible romantic interest for Basil. So why am I putting here are one of the four options? Because not only did I find it easy to write interactions between her and Basil, there kind of accidentally ended up having some chemistry in some part I try to write for future stories. They also just have more common interests than compared to Ella, and really is a easy to make from platonic to romantic trap kind of pairing. However, aside form the fact that Annette hadn’t been meant to be a romantic interest at first, there’s also the awkwardness of Basil and her just being oblivious of their feelings without the help of someone else. Most of the fandom (myself included, admittedly) sort of have the idea that Basil is pretty much married to his work. Annette’s not so far off either with that idea, but also that given Dr. Dawson’s and her mother’s divorce, she has a distaste to the idea of marriage and most of the suitors I have made for her very much don’t deserve her and she’s not even interested- the point is, both Basil and Annette are characters that are the type to be married to their jobs. And that’s also where Ella comes in as starting off as an idea for a romantic interest for Annette. So between Annette, Ella, and Basil we have at least a very interesting love triangle that could result in a poly relationship.

And last but not least, Ethel Blair:

Ethel is... an interesting character, in that she’s sort of meant to be a background character even in her own story. It’s a bit complicated to explain fully, but the core of the idea behind Ethel is that the characters in the background of any setting can be interesting even as that role. Heck, in some stories, it’s a background character that actually gets the story started.

In Ethel’s case, she’s one of two daughters to baronet Sir Andrew Blair and his wife and is vastly different from her older twin sister Anna. Where Anna is bold, brash, loud, and as blunt as a piano falling from the fifth story, Ethel is quiet, much more subtle and patient with events. Despite their differences, the two get along spectacularly, are each other’s best friends, and consultants when it comes to investments. The two sister are excellent when it comes to investing and business, which is great for their family because their father sucks at it and takes to being the front to the girls’ success. Anna with her outgoing and bold nature proves to be a good distraction while Ethel gather information they could use for future endeavors. Ethel’s more quiet nature has her labeled as a bit of a wallflower, given her unease in participating in social events, but she rather use that to make it easy to get what she, and what Anna, maybe want for themselves and their family. Then Anna gets interests in Sebastian Ratigan, the older brother of Professor Ratigan, which just starts a whole other thing and drama.

So yeah, Ethel is very different compared to the more up Infront ladies I have here. She’s also the closest I have that can be truly a ‘damsel in distress’ kind of role. The whole dynamic between her and Basil does fall under the ‘protective guy/shy girl’ idea, as well as the fact that Ethel usually being the observant, off to the side listening in on everyone else’s conversations, can lead to her being rather underestimated in what she knows or is capable of understanding about those around her due to one) she’s the younger twin, and two) she doesn’t always spits out what she knows or feels. I could see Basil coming across someone like that and get caught up trying to figure that person out. Obviously a Basil and Ethel pairing would have some key communication issues, as well as a need to talk about boundaries, given a good chunk of this dynamic is also ‘detective and mystery’ in of itself.

So, why didn’t I just settled on one?

Probably because I’m a multi-shipper at heart, when you get down to it. And as I stated above with Annette, some of it came from just writing interactions and there being chemistry, if slightly by accident. I’m always down for a ship or pairing where it comes down to personality interaction and the dynamics that can come from that. It’s likely why I never really got on board with the Basil x Ratigan shippers despite some of the fanart and such from that part of the fandom being awesome (I highly recommend The Good Thing That Hurts on Youtube by FoxyNightmare. It has a neat twist to the normal dynamic usually give to the Basil x Ratigan ship).

And when it comes to Basil, and him being based off of Sherlock Holmes, it feels fitting that if he ever showed interest in anyone, it’d do with mind and personality.

Which is how I get this mess of four possible romantic interests.

⠀the last people tooru expected to ever hear from again, besides you, were any of his third year teammates. maybe his underclassmen had it in them to forgive him eventually, but not issei and takahiro. they had all the right reason to not forgive him for his actions. they, just like hajime, had doted on you quite often during the season. while they weren't obsessive over it, they both visibly appreciated your presence.

⠀way more than he did at the time, anyway.

⠀he was almost scared as the two of them approached him during lunch. oikawa stopped showing up to the cafeteria and began enjoying his lunches in silence at the library, as many social outcasts choose to do. he didn't think that their motive for going to the library was to see him of all people, but his mind began to race as they began walking towards him at a surprisingly quick pace - their faces were anything but pleasant.

⠀"makki? mattsun?" tooru's body initiated his fight or flight instincts as both of them stood at his sides, making it impossible for him to just stand up and leave. "what are you doing here? i didn't do anything, did i?" he really hoped he didn't make another mistake. the last thing he wanted was to be remembered for nothing more than his shortcomings as a boyfriend.

⠀"no, not this time." mattsun replied in a hushed whisper, shaking his head. "but there's something going on that no one on the team likes. we don't know if you already know or not, but given your past with y/n, we figured you'd be interested."

⠀he hesitated at the mention of your name. of course he was interested in anything that had to do with you. what could possibly be going on with you that would be so important for him of all people to know about? the other two third years were uncharacteristically serious for their usual joking demeanors, but he was too nervous to say anything more.

⠀oikawa was additionally surprised to watch both them take a seat on both sides of him, leaning in closer to ensure only he was able to hear what they were saying. tooru leaned back slightly, his stomach running in circles with the suspicious activity going on. were they going to prank him? go through all this just to call him a loser? if so, he didn't want to be part of it. he had already messed up with you again, that was all the confirmation he needed that he was just a downright idiot. damn him and his stupid bad habits. if only he knew how to control his temper, this wouldn't have happened in the first place.

⠀"do you want the news just thrown in your face, or do you want us to discreetly tell you?" makki crossed his arms and leaned over the table, throwing the seijoh captain out of his deep thought. "doesn't really matter, bad news is bad news. we're probably going to ruin your day with this."

⠀really, what could be worse than this? "just tell me," was all he could muster.

⠀"iwaizumi and y/n are dating."

⠀what?

⠀tooru almost fell out of his seat as the blood rushed throughout his body like a tidal wave, both anger and astonishment crashing together furiously. he almost screamed but bit down on his tongue due to their current location. both makki and mattsun noticed the sudden shift in oikawa's behavior, and nodded their heads as if to agree with his reaction.

⠀"yahaba told me today. kindaichi apparently made small talk with iwaizumi, where the big news was revealed." mattsun continued without letting either brunet peer reply, "and frankly, it's very strange. all of it. but i'm pretty sure the only ones who have been suspicious of the relationship are us."

⠀oikawa was livid. whatever control he had over his temper, had been thrown long gone by now. his face glowed with an underlying red hue, his hands clenched into white-knuckled fists as he rest them on the table. he wasn't mad at you - he was mad at iwaizumi. hajime. he did something to manipulate you into a relationship. he did something to you to result in this outcome.

⠀and this was all oikawa’s fault.

⠀"this is bullshit," he seethed, shaking his head in an incredulous matter. "there's no way this was mutual. it can't be." curiously, he turned to the other two with furrowed eyebrows, his eyes narrowed in their direction. "why aren't you happy about their relationship? isn't this what all of you wanted ever since i..." hurt her? his voice got caught in his throat before he could finish.

⠀"don't get us wrong. you're still a complete asshole for how you treated y/n in the past. nothing will change that." it was like a hammer hit straight into oikawa's chest. "however... it's more complicated with iwaizumi. more complicated than what we would like it to be."

⠀realistically, it shouldn't be complicated at all. oikawa knew that. he was never the nicest to you, but he truly had no ill intentions when it came to your well being. now that he was stripped of whatever pride and dignity he had during the volleyball season, he realized that even though he had no ill intention, it still hurt you. that's what hurt tooru the most.

⠀"...complicated?"

⠀"i'm sure you've heard that iwaizumi has refused to tell y/n of her... past. and she doesn't remember anything either, which works to his advantage." makki began listing down points with his finger. "she asked us, she asked the team, she's asked iwaizumi way more times that i can count with both hands and toes. hell, i'm pretty sure she's asked you, too."

⠀you have, but tooru had his own reasons for hesitating.

⠀"she's been pretty stubborn about what she wants, and actually pretty pissed that no one refuses to tell her anything. then all of a sudden she comes back to seijoh with iwaizumi after a normal weekend, hand-in-hand and happy as can be." makki shook his head at the thought of it. "something doesn't add up. maybe it's not our business to butt in, but that's what's been going on."

⠀"what do you want me to do about it?" the lonely third year leaned back against his seat once more, more frustrated than anything. "i thought all of you didn't want me near y/n anymore. now you're telling me this, and for what?"

⠀"truth be told oikawa, this was just an impulse decision on both our parts." mattsun sighed and stood up, stretching his legs a bit. makki followed suit. "even though it's suspicious, it's really not our business. everyone else seems to be content with it, especially with what y/n's been going through. it's almost meant to be at this point."

⠀ouch, another strike to the heart. "but," the rose-haired peer interjected, "even though it's not our business, it most certainly is yours, isn't it? after all, you still haven't been able to officially break up with her yet, huh? and don't you have bad blood with iwaizumi now?" he shoved his hands in his pockets, tilting his head to the side.

⠀just how much did these two know? "no," oikawa mumbled quietly, "i haven't been able to."

⠀"anyways, the bell's gonna ring soon. you're in the loophole now, so you decide what to do with the information." mattsun walked up to tooru and grabbed him by the blazer, pulling the captain up to his feet before whispering quietly, "and if you have any sense of redemption left in you, it would probably be in your best interest to see what the hell is going on with hajime iwaizumi. maybe you'll get a sense of closure in the process."

⠀tooru could only nod in retaliation to this sudden confrontation, and mattsun gently let go of his blazer before giving him a quick nod. as quickly as the two of them arrived, they had already disappeared into the hallways by the time the bell rang.

⠀the frustration followed him like a raincloud for the rest of the day.
