Orel Puppington
Tumblr media
EDIT
-"The Lord's Greatest Gift"
Gender Male
Hair Brown"
• 12 until end of season 3
• 13 by the end of the show
• 4 in "Beforel Orel: Trust"
Orel Puppington is the protagonist and titular character of the series. He is Clay and Bloberta Puppington's son, as weIl as Shapey's older maternal half brother.
PersonalityTRY FANCENTRALGAMESMOVIESTVVIDEOWIKIS
Orel is patient, curious and unconditionally nice, all rare traits in Moralton. He tends to wear his big heart proudly on his sleeve, like when he exclaims "Golly!" or "Hot dog!" when excited. Orel's ultimate goals are to follow God's will and do the right thing, although these may clash at times or lead to catastrophic results. Nevertheless, his good nature rubs o on characters like Reverend Putty and Stephanie.
For most of the show, his dening fault is naivete. Many episodes are fueled by him being manipulated or misled by his elders, most apparent when he tries to apply Reverend Putty's sermons to comical extremes (such as raising the dead because they're "wasting" God's gift of life). While he eventually learns why everyone is miserable in his town and to not take everything at face value, he still tries to be the best person he can.
It takes a lot for someone to get on Orel's bad side; Clay only manages to after two seasons' worth of abuse, culminating in him shooting Orel in the leg.
Orel has his fair share of hobbies. One of his favorites is stop motion animation: at the end of most episodes, Orel makes a short lm that reects what he learned starring Biblical heroes. He was also one of Coach Stopframe's best runners, a star prayer for his elementary school, accomplished in multiple other sports, and a Pious Scout. In addition to these skills, Orel possesses several unusual ones as the plot demands, such as necromancy, hand-to-hand combat prociency, package delivery and running businesses.
History
When he was a toddler, Orel had blind trust in everyone and everything. While his grandfather tried to raise him as a rational young lad for a bit, Ms. Censordoll tried to "scare Orel sacred" into blindly following God. Both of these approaches worked to some extent: Orel grew into a devout Christian, but he would try to apply rational thinking to what he learned at church. As the show progressed, Orel's beliefs expanded past the town's rigid doctrine; in "Praying," he practices Buddhist meditation, and in "Holy Visage," he goes against what he thinks is God's will for the sake of healing Dr. Chosenberg.
Orel's actions had a ripple eect on many characters. Reverend Putty, for example, was selsh and desperate for love until Orel taught him how to be grateful for what he had. When Orel
TRY FANCENTRALGAMESMOVIESTVVIDEOWIKIS
bonded with Coach Stopframe in "Honor," the man realized that he was better o without Clay.
At rst, Orel either couldn't fully comprehend why the adults of Moralton would do horrible things to him (such as putting down his dog, or taking Christina away from him for minute dierences in faith) or believed any justication Clay left him. After a disastrous hunting trip, wherein he severely damaged his leg and limped for the rest of his life because of Clay, he started to understand why his father and the rest of town acts like they do.
It's implied in the series nale that Orel lives as a happy and mature parent, married to Christina, without ditching his religion. He also stays in Moralton in order to make it a better place.
During his childhood, Orel sang a hit song from Crooning Jesus and made a short lm.
Orel as an adult
Relationships
Clay Puppington
Orel used to consider his father as a wise and noble man. In reality, Clay ignored Orel until he caused trouble, where he would spank and lecture the kid to correct his behavior. These spiels were often contradictory or cynical, such as when he tells Orel that all love eventually fades. Even though Orel still respected Clay before the hunting trip, he was well-aware of his rampant drinking and the beatings endured in his study.
Orel's respect for his old man shattered in "Nature," as he realized that Clay was a miserable and selsh bully. The two wouldn't talk to each other much for six months afterward. Still, Orel felt guilty that he couldn't honor Clay during Christmas. After a fun-lled Christmas with Coach Stopframe, he taught Orel that Clay made who he is, and that was worth honoring in a way. A picture of him on Orel's wall at the end of the series implies that he acknowledges Clay in some capacity.
Bloberta Puppington
Bloberta and Orel have little in common. Most of Blobs' interactions with him stem from her
TRY FANCENTRALGAMESMOVIESTVVIDEOWIKIS desire to look like a good mother rather than any interest in her son. Outside of that, she's indierent to whatever Orel does or what others do to him. While Orel respects her, he knows that she's unhappy with her family, including him.
After Bloberta learned what happened on the hunting trip, she gave Orel a bit more attention. The most genuine concern she showed about Orel was in "Honor," where she thought Orel should be in the family choir. It's implied that Orel still remembers her in the episode's ashforward.
Shapey Puppington
Although Shapey can get on his nerves, Orel still loves him and wants him to be safe (a hard task when his parents give Shapey an abundance of power tools). When they were very young, Orel almost sacriced Shapey at an altar, thinking that God would intervene. In "The Best Christmas Ever," he thought Shapey was the second coming of Christ and treated him as such. Orel eventually gave his gurines and stop motion camera to Shapey and Block for Christmas in "Honor," and it's implied that he still cares about him years later.
Arthur Puppington
Arthur is Orel's paternal grandfather and one of Orel's few good inuences. He taught Orel about rational thinking when the kid was suddenly dropped o at his house, both to counteract Moralton's aggro brainwashing and atone for how he raised Clay. After Orel told everyone about nature and questioned the existence of God, he was forbidden from seeing his grandpa.
If the show continued, Arthur would have stayed at the Puppington residence to ride out a terminal illness. He would give advice to Orel until his death, which would deeply upset the kid.
Block Posabule
When the Posabules moved away in "The Lord's Prayer", they accidentally left Block with the Puppingtons. Orel treated Block as he would Shapey, and is the only person who can tell them apart other than his father (who simply doesn't care). "Honor" implies that he still cared about the guy.
Christina Posabule
Christina is Orel's childhood crush and eventual wife. They were initially forbidden from seeing
TRY FANCENTRALGAMESMOVIESTVVIDEOWIKIS each other because they said their prayers dierently, but this didn't stop them from going to the Arm's Length Dance during the events of "Closeface." In "Honor," they would have 2 children and a pet dog.
Coach Stopframe
Coach Stopframe considered Orel one of his best runners. Sometimes, he used Orel as a way to check up on Clay, or in "Satan," as a sacricial lamb to win Clay's heart. Orel didn't understand why he did these things until "Honor," where the two bond during Christmas while dealing with their feelings about Clay.
Doughy Latchkey
Doughy is Orel's best friend, usually accompanying Orel in his misadventures no matter how scared he gets. Although Doughy's usually content and carefree, Orel is the only person who notices Doughy's rocky relationship with his parents. Doughy's need for good parents can sometimes end up hurting his buddy, as he manipulates him in "Trigger."
Reverend Putty
He delivers sermons at Orel's church. Orel respects him dearly, paying close attention to his sermons and always willing to meet him after hours. Despite Putty getting annoyed by him at times, Orel helps him see the bright side of things and do his best for the congregation.
Stephanie Foamwire-Putty
Stephanie is one of few characters that tries to guide Orel in the right direction. In most of her episodes, she's seen giving advice to Orel and letting him clean up her shop. Orel looks up to her because she's unconditionally nice to him, viewing her as a maternal gure
Joe Secondopinionson
Despite Joe picking on or hitting him, Orel considers Joe a friend and pities him. He spent time with Joe during "Maturity" committing crimes in a misguided sense of loyalty.

• Some episode synopses on Adult Swim and Amazon erroneously referred to him as "Moral."

not that anyone asked, but having laid out my favorite Christ paintings I’m now still in the mood to talk about art so I’m going to tell the void about Holbein, Tudor queens and unintended consequences.
Dr. Katrina Marchant has put forward, echoing the sentiments of many other historians, that Holbein’s portraiture is a major reason why the Tudor period persists so strongly in popular imagination, and why so many of these figures feel so real and so human to us almost five centuries after their deaths. I tend to partly agree. We can’t discount the enduring mythos of Good Queen Bess, Gloriana, her Golden Age. Or the persistent (and propagandistic) influence of Billy Shakespeare, English literature’s most talented Tudor toady. Not to mention, putting aside the theological impact, the sheer scandal and melodrama of God’s anointed king cycling through six wives, with 33% of those queens consort ending up sent to the scaffold. But really, in examining the sources firsthand, we find shockingly little about those queens, whether or not they went to the grave with their heads or their marriages intact. We know, with real certainty, just one of their birthdays—of course Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain ensured their youngest daughter Catherine entered the world to a flurry of fanfare. (December 16th, 1485–a stubborn, methodical, intelligent Sagittarius, if you’re into that.) We know Katherine Parr was not a passive nursemaid for the aged and ailing Henry by her named publications on religious matters (and by an absolutely fantastic non-Holbein portrait that shows her in full-length view, dressed in ermine and trodding on a Persian rug) and we know that Holbein couldn’t have sanitized Anne of Cleves’ looks that much, contrary to Henry’s supposed fussing, given that dear old Hans kept both his position as court painter and his head. But through deliberate destruction (as in the case of Anne Boleyn) or general uncertainty (in poor Katherine Howard) we have only a handful of images we can speculate might possibly be one of the doomed queens.
To pan out back to Holbein for a moment: Something truly striking is how alive his subjects look. Sure, maybe a little fluff and flattery here and there is par for the course. I’m just going to show his women here for reasons that will become obvious, but look at the expressiveness!

I think you get my point. Just total mastery of all the subtleties and nuances of the human face.
Bringing it back to Katherine Howard. Most of us know the story by now. A young girl is seduced, or manipulated, or raped, by an affectionate music teacher. As an adolescent, she is seduced, or manipulated, or raped by an amorous courtier in her noble relative’s house. She is later brought to the royal court where she is seduced, or manipulated, or raped, by an aging and half-mad king swollen with gout and stinking with unhealed and festering wounds. He’s already executed one wife, forsaken two, lost another to childbed fever. The girl is seduced, or manipulated, or raped, by a “beautiful youth” who serves the king’s privy chamber. For this, the girl and all the courtiers are dragged to the chopping block and beheaded. She is about eighteen years old.
Only three existing painted portraits are speculated to be of Katherine. (We won’t bother ourselves with sketches, drafts, or engravings.) All three are by Holbein, or at least his workshop. All three are from roughly 1540, about a year before she was interrogated, tried, and executed. All three are simply branded with the moniker “Portrait of a Lady.” They are all relatively consistent in appearance, with one exception.
Here are the first two:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There she is—a lady with fair skin, auburn hair, a longish nose, a small smile, a slight flirtation in her eyes (at least on the first miniature) and donning a french hood (as Katherine was known to wear, apocryphally brought into English fashion by Henry’s earlier beheaded queen, Anne Boleyn) as opposed to a traditionally English gabled hood. She looks young, though not drastically so (Katherine would have been anywhere from 15 to 17 upon her marriage to Henry) but hey, maybe people aged more quickly then. By my 17th birthday I certainly looked worse for wear. The first image a characteristic Tudor bodice and neckline, while the latter showcases a very distinct set of large, ribbon-trimmed sleeves. Bear this in mind when gazing at the final image, in which her gown has both.
Tumblr media
To me, this portrait shows us Katherine. The other two, which may or may not be her, have about as much certainty of attribution as this one. The inscription on this painting, however, explicitly states that the sitter is seventeen years old.
But look at that face. Same eyes and nose and hair as the others, but something so distinctive about that face. Feels almost too modern in her youthfulness. This face could be peering out at you from a TikTok video. Surely if all three portraits were of the same sitter, Holbein would, in his way, have taken pains to consistently capture such a girlish countenance and that instagram-ready pout?
But not quite. Let’s defer to The Met.
Because it generally exhibits typical characteristics of Holbein portraiture, this picture was at first highly praised and confidently attributed to the artist. Yet, by the mid-1870s, when the second edition of Woltmann's Holbein monograph appeared, the painting was identified as "presumably Holbein," and Woltmann's changed opinion initiated the negative assessments that the picture subsequently received. Some have considered it a clever pastiche, possibly from the artist's late portraits, while others still gave it to Holbein's workshop. In the 1995 summary catalogue of the Museum's collection of European paintings, Baetjer designated it a British copy in the style of Holbein from the second half of the sixteenth century.
Despite its poor state and the absence of Holbein's sophisticated execution in the face and details of the costume, technical investigation (see figs. 1–2 above) did reveal the routine methods of portraits made in the artist's workshop during the 1540s. There is no extant preparatory drawing for the portrait, but the rigid underdrawing outlining the head and facial features indicated a one-to-one transfer from a pattern on paper to the prepared panel, the customary practice devised by Holbein for portraits made from 1532 to 1543, during his second period in England.
The painting has been abraded and extensively restored. The originally cool, vibrant blue background has been overpainted with a grayish blue-green paint. A rectangular area of restoration above the arm at the far right appears yellowish. There are restored areas in the dark clothing and the face. Retouching of the mouth may contribute to the exaggerated pout.
So, a bad retouching job. Maybe a slightly sloppier apprentice. Insufficient coordination. Whatever. They can’t all be masterworks, right?
But somehow, since I saw this portrait, I can’t shake it—that is the face of poor, doomed Katherine. The face of a girl who lacked the virginal purity the king demanded of his young fifth wife, and who lacked the experience and acumen to play the game to save herself. Hell, that might not have been enough—all the good it did Anne in the Tower. Intended, unintended, misattributed, who knows? We don’t need certainty when we have circumstance. We already have the story, however we decide to tell it. We already have all the characters in place. All we need are the faces to go with them. They too had faces, then.

Questions from a new Romantic era fanatic: Why does everyone hate polidori and who the hell is keats?
Hello, dear anon, and welcome to the World of Romanticism! There is no turning back now. This post will be super long, so if you wanted short answers, I beg you to forgive me for that, but I wanted to write something consistent and detailed, with many links for further reading in case you (or anyone else) are interested. Just click on “keep reading” (if you’re on the web. I’m not sure if there is this option on the mobile app).
Well, people hate John Polidori because he was an asshole in Geneva. To give you a few examples of his ridiculous behaviours: during a sailing trip, he hit Byron’s knee with an oar — Byron turned his face away in pain. Polidori, instead of apologising, remarked that he was glad to see that Byron was capable of demonstrating emotions. Byron got so pissed he said that if Mary wasn’t on board, he would have thrown Polidori overboard. The situation, according to Thomas Moore, went like this: “Be so kind, Polidori, another time, to take more care, for you hurt me very much.” — “I am glad of it,” answered the other; “I am glad to see you can suffer pain.” In a calm suppressed tone, Lord Byron replied, “Let me advise you, Polidori, when you, another time, hurt any one, not to express your satisfaction. People don’t like to be told that those who give them pain are glad of it; and they cannot always command their anger. It was with some difficulty that I refrained from throwing you into the water; and, but for Mrs. Shelley’s presence, I should probably have done some such rash thing.“He also purposefully picked on Shelley. On Moore’s words, “Polidori had become jealous of the growing intimacy of his noble patron with Shelley”, and even wanted to duel him after he lost a sailing match. However, Shelley was a known pacifist. Byron, on the other hand, offered himself to duel Polidori, claiming that “though Shelley has some scruples about duelling, I have none and shall be at all times ready to take his place.” Anyway, here’s what the physician wrote about Shelley when they first met: “bashful, shy, consumptive; twenty-six; separated from his wife; keeps the two daughters of Godwin, who practise his theories;”There was also that one time when Polidori asked Byron “what is there you can do that I cannot?”. Byron’s answer was priceless: “I can swim across that river—I can snuff out that candle with a pistol-shot at the distance of twenty paces—and I have written a poem of which 14,000 copies were sold in one day.”
Judging by what I’ve read so far, I’d say the guy was such a pain in the ass, that Byron didn’t even trust him. On a letter to Hobhouse (June 23rd, 1816), he wrote: “that child and childish Dr. Pollydolly contrived to find it [a bottle of potash] broken, or to break it (…)”
Apparently he was a decent person only when he was around Mary, probably because he had a crush on her.
Anyway, Byron was no saint — I adore him (more than I should, probably), but I do know he was a complex person. However, Polidori was the worst, and Byron didn’t deserve that.
Polidori’s journal from 1816 is available online for free. If you wish to read it, you can find it here.Another useful link: Life of Lord Byron, Vol. 3 by Thomas Moore. Also, fun fact: his sister, Frances Polidori, married Gabriele Rossetti. Therefore, John Polidori was Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s and Christina Rossetti’s uncle (although he died before they were born).
And now to who the hell is John Keats Well, here we go…Born in 1795, John Keats was a working-class man — someone whose life was quite frustrating, and surrounded by death (he died at 25, but still outlived his parents, his grandma and his brother). He wanted to be a poet, and to be among the great English poets when he died. Therefore, he began writing around 1814 (if I am not mistaken), and his poems were filled with beautiful lines about nature, beauty, imagination and words about his muse, a young woman named Fanny Brawne. Most of his contemporaries, however, didn’t like his work — it is said that his poems sold barely 200 copies back in the day. Byron, for example, despised Keats as a poet — he used to criticize his poems, and once he even said Keats’ works were a sort of “mental masturbation”. He mentions Keats in Don Juan (Canto XI, stanza LX. He kinda mocks the myth surrounding his death*), as well as in his letters.Shelley, on the other hand, loved Keats, and wrote a massive elegy on his death, Adonaïs, which probably helped keeping Keats’ legacy alive. When Shelley drowned, his body was identified because he had a book of poems by Keats in his pocket. Ironically, Keats didn’t like Shelley that much.Unfortunately, Keats fate was not a fair one: he contracted tuberculosis, probably from his brother, who died of consumption in 1818. The symptoms got worse around 1820, so it was decided that he should retire to a warmer climate in order to survive. In November of the same year, he arrived in Italy. However, because Keats was medically trained, and had already seen people dying of tuberculosis, so he knew he was going to die soon. He knew exactly what was going on, and that moving to Rome wouldn’t work. He knew was doomed. The poor man died in Italy, of tuberculosis, at the age of 25, in 1821, believing he was a failure. He was the youngest of the English Romantics, and also the first one to die.Even though his life was quite bitter, he always did his best to see beauty in every thing that surrounded him — quoting his Endymion “a thing of beauty is a joy forever”; and quoting Keats himself (from a letter): “"If I should die,” said I to myself, “I have left no immortal work behind me - nothing to make my friends proud of my memory - but I have loved the principle of beauty in all things, and if I had had time I would have made myself remembered.“”.From the state his lungs were after his death (described by his friend Severn on a letter to Fanny: “the lungs were completely gone. The Doctors could not conceive by what means he had lived these two months.”), one can only imagine how much he agonized and suffered during his last days.He was buried at the protestant cemetery in Rome (same place as Shelley). On his tombstone, one can read “This grave contains all that was Mortal of a Young English Poet Who on his Death Bed, in the Bitterness of his Heart at the Malicious Power of his Enemies Desired these Words to be engraven on his Tomb Stone: Here lies One Whose Name was writ in Water. ”After his death, Fanny Brawne suffered a lot for about 8 years of her life.John Keats became quite successful a few years later, during the Victorian era, and his poems deeply influenced the pre-raphaelites, and even Tennyson. Nowadays, he is considered to be one of the greatest English poets, as he so ardently desired to be during his lifetime. If you wish to read his poems, I recommend Ode to a Nightingale, On Death, Ode on a Grecian Urn, When I Have Fears, La Belle Dame Sans Merci, Bright Star, Isabella or The Pot of Basil, and This Living Hand. You can read more about John Keats’ life here and here. You can read Keats’ letters here
*The Myth surrounding Keats’ death was that he died because of the stress generated by the harsh comments his poems received. Obviously, that was not the case…
And that’s it.
Thank you very much for asking! I hope you enjoyed my answers! If you, or anyone else has any other question about the romantics, you can ask me here.

[Game of Dice] Character Name Meanings
I looked into the name meanings of all the canon Game of Dice characters out of curiosity. Plus, I really love looking into these kinds of things. A name is so important to a character.
I didn’t include one character and that’s Dr. X for obvious reasons.
I used a few different name meaning sites and sources like behindthename.com as one of them. I really had to search for the meaning on some of these names.
Ion Christine
Ion
Basque and Romanian: form of John (God is gracious)
Russian: God is good
Greek: son of Apollo
definition of ion as a word: an atom or molecule with a net electrical charge due to loss or gain of one or more electrons
Christine
French form of Christina (Latin form of Christian: a Christian/follower of Christ)
Mary Chester
Mary
English; Hebrew: form of Maria (sea of bitterness; rebelliousness; wished for child)
Chester
English: fortress; camp
Raven
English: blackbird; dark haired; wise
Rica/Rika
Rica is the official English name but Celebrity’s Goods depicts her holding a gift with her name spelled Rika. So I’ll put the meanings of both.
Rica
Spanish; Norse: rules the home
English: peaceful ruler
Rika
English: home ruler
Norse: feminine form of Eric (forever strong)
German; Hungarian; Swedish: powerful ruler
Japanese: village; countryside
Black Rose
Black
Old English: black (blæc) or pale (blac); when used as a surname
English: dark
definition of black as a word:
of the very darkest color owing to the absence of or complete absorption of light; the opposite of white
(of a period of time or situation) characterized by tragic or disastrous events; causing despair or pessimism
full of anger or hatred
very evil or wicked
Rose
English; French; Greek: of the rose blossom
Doria
English: feminine form of Dorian (of the sea; from the surname Doran: exile, wanderer)
Greek: from the sea
Sharon
English; Hebrew: (fertile) plain; flowering shrub/rose of Sharon
Isabelle
French: form of Isabel (God is my Oath; devoted to God)
Tora
Norse; Swedish: thunder
Tori/Tory
I refer to her as Tori, which that name has been used at times. But in official English translations, Tora refers to his sister as Tory in one of his quotes. So I’ll put the meaning of both.
Tori
English: short for Victoria (victory); winner, conqueror
Tory
English: variant of Tori
Lynnway
I was unable to find the whole name of Lynnway but I was able to find the meanings of Lynn and Way.
Lynn
Celtic/Gaelic; English: from the lake; waterfall
Way
Old English: way, road, path
NOTE: Due to a headcanon of mine where I headcanon Lynnway to be Chinese, the official Chinese translation spells Lynnway as 林威 (simplified) and 林薇 (traditional).
Sophia
English; Greek; German: wisdom, wise
Lucy
English; Latin: form of Lucia (feminine form of Lucius [light])
Anthony
Greek; Latin: worthy of praise; priceless
Kai
Scottish; Welsh: fire
Hawaiian: sea/ocean
Japanese: to charge ahead; the first to charge; pioneer; forerunner; harbinger (魁 kai)
Chinese: triumph, victory, music of triumph (凯 kai)
NOTE: The official Japanese translation spells Kai as カイ
Edward Prince
Edward
German; Edward: wealthy/rich guardian
Prince
Latin: royal son
Liz
English: short form of Elizabeth (God is my oath)
Alice
Greek: truth; noble
Ling Ling
Chinese: sound of jade; dawn; spirit, soul (灵); bell, chime (铃) - from the name Ling alone
NOTE: The official Chinese translation spells Ling Ling as 玲玲 (simplified) and 玲玲 (traditional) - the characters may appear as the same depending on where you view this
Kaito
Japanese: sea, ocean (海 kai); soar, fly (翔 to); to (斗) can refer to a Chinese constellation
NOTE: The official Japanese translation spells Kaito as カイト
Refia
unable to find any meanings
Yuki
Japanese: snow; lucky (雪 yuki); happiness (幸 yuki); reason, cause; valuable; chronicle (由 yu 貴 ki 紀 ki)
NOTE: The official Japanese translation spells Yuki as ユキ
Heidi
German: honorable; of noble kin

Today in Fun Facts, a series of articles about characters and plot devices I’ve used in my stories, I’ll be talking about Dr. Gleichstein.
Dr Gleichstein is a character readers are introduced to in “The Time Saving Agency“, book 2 in Quantum. By reputation, he’s a quantum physicist – and by reputation, I mean perhaps the whole world (in this case, Deanna) knows he has an unfortunate habit of losing his eyebrows as a result of his unorthodox lab experiments!
While Doktor Gleichstein has the shock of white, wild poofy hair appropriate for his line of work, the matching pair of white, wild fluffy eyebrows is generally strangely absent from his features!
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Quantum physics, as anyone (who lives near the Herr Doktor) might tell you, is just like ordinary physics, only more quantum – and you spend a lot of time looking for your eyebrows! Well… you do if your name is Dr. Gleichstein! No university will employ him as anything other than a guest lecturer – and certainly wouldn’t allow him on the premises beyond using a laser pointer and printed textbooks – or where actually conducting scientific research or experiments is concerned! This unfortunate state of affairs hasn’t left much in the way of opportunity for our friend the Doktor, so he moonlights as a lecturer at Atro City University several days per week, and devotes the rest of his free time conducting his own research and experiments at home.
Tumblr media
Not that the poor Doktor is particularly accident-prone, but – well, let’s just say he doesn’t let little setbacks like accidentally blowing up the garage of his house (or the lounge, or the kitchen – or blowing off the legs of the dining room table and sending the top into an inter-dimensional time-warp) get him down like ordinary folk would!
Aside from his debut as a secondary character in “The Time Saving Agency“, the Doktor also appears in “Bang, Splat!“, this time in the spotlight – er, that is if he doesn’t actually get upstaged by his little dog Vluffy.
Vluffy is a particularly clever little dog – who has turned avoiding getting incinerated, turned inside out or plain vaporized by the Doktor’s experiments calamities into something approaching a fine art. Not that the Doktor is unkind to Vluffy – he’s very vond… I mean fond of Vluffy – it’s just that wherever the Dr. conducts research into quantumness, well, shit blows up.
In fact, the doc is so fond of Vluffy that he gave him a little flame-proof doggy-jacket – and that’s saved his fur more than once!
The house shared by the Doktor and Vluffy is also inhabited (unsurprisingly) by some strangely intelligent mice – who threaten to leave if something isn’t done about the rampant mutant cockroach problem!
Tumblr media
The pair of unlikely friends also appear in the short animated film of the same name, and you can view it for free on my YouTube channel.
In “The Time Saving Agency” the Doktor is the unwilling dupe of the villain, Brad Xyl – who has designs on blowing up not just the tranquil (and slightly eccentric) colony Deanna – but the entire universe along with it!
Following his little frolic of destruction in “Bang, Splat!” he appears again in “Prodigal Sun” and is due to reappear again in the forthcoming seventh title in the Quantum series where he has a hand in developing… – whoops, I almost told you! *wink*
[Incidentally, in order to see the rest of these articles in this series, click on the category name Fun Facts!]
To sum up, Doktor Gleichstein is a disaster of epic proportions!
If you want a taste of the Quantum Series, you can read these free sample short stories that include material not seen in the rest of the series:
