“It was not always like this. Before 2019, Shaffi was earning £1,000 a week, with one platform offering a £7 hourly wage rate, with an additional £1 for every drop. Being paid to cycle around the city he grew up in seemed like a dream job. He could make £15 an hour, and sometimes up to £4,000 a month – triple what he had earned in his previous job in customer services at Waitrose. The pandemic was “heaven” for riders, he says: open roads, no safety concerns, orders galore. Then the system changed: the distribution algorithm could decide which rider was allocated to each order, introducing extra competition among couriers and driving down pay for each delivery. Deliveroo claims not to pay less than £2.90 for a single delivery, but during our shift, the pay-per-drop rate ranged from £1.80 for a quick journey to £5.70 for a six-mile round trip from Westminster to Shepherd’s Bush.”

Plattform-Arbeitsrichtlinie durch EU-Mitgliedsstaaten angenommen

Relativ unbemerkt aber erst durch ungeheure Energie vieler hunderttausender Menschen ist die Plattform-Arbeitsrichtlinie durch die EU-Mitgliedsstaaten angenommen worden. Federführend bei dem Kampf für Arbeitnehmerrechte war koordinierend WeMove.eu. Die berichten nun über die Inhalte der Richtlinie, die dafür sorgen kann, dass abhängig Beschäftigte, wie bei Uber, auch diese Rechte durchsetzen können und nicht weiter als Scheinselbstständige unterdrückt werden.

WeMove.eu schreibt

Zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte erhalten Menschen, die für riesige Plattformen wie Uber arbeiten, die gleichen Rechte wie andere Arbeitnehmer. Das ist ein Wendepunkt für die Arbeitnehmer in ganz Europa.

Stellen Sie sich das vor: 15-Stunden-Tage, kein Krankenstand, keine Rente und nicht einmal die Sicherheit eines Mindestlohns. Das ist die brutale Realität von Millionen, die für Unternehmen wie Uber und Deliveroo schuften.

Während diese gigantischen Plattformen enorme Gewinne einfahren, bleiben ihre Arbeiter auf der Strecke, da ihnen nicht einmal die grundlegendsten Arbeitnehmerrechte zugestanden werden. Doch diese Zeiten sind vorbei. Und das nicht einen Moment zu früh. Bis 2025 werden 43 Millionen Menschen für Plattformen wie Uber tätig sein. Wäre der Sektor ein Land, wäre es das fünftgrößte in Europa!

Der Sieg war nur dank Ihnen, dieser Gemeinschaft, möglich. Von der Unterzeichnung der Petition über das Schreiben von Nachrichten an Politiker bis hin zur Finanzierung unserer Arbeit. Durch gemeinsames Handeln haben wir den Druck aufrechterhalten - den Druck, der notwendig ist, um Veränderungen zu erreichen.

Jetzt müssen wir dafür sorgen, dass jedes Land in Europa das neue Gesetz anwendet. Und das bedeutet, dass wir bei jedem Schritt dabei sein müssen, um Entscheidungsträgern, die zögern, mit einer Welle des Widerstands zu begegnen.

Was wird sich ändern?

Der Europäische Gewerkschaftsbund ist sich sicher, dass Millionen von Menschen, die über digitale Plattformen arbeiten, nach der Annahme der Plattform-Arbeitsrichtlinie durch die EU-Mitgliedsstaaten endlich Mindestlöhne, Krankengeld und andere Beschäftigungsschutz erhalten werden.

Die Gewerkschaften waren erfolgreich dabei, die Beschäftigungsvermutung mit der Umkehrung der Beweislast einzubeziehen. Anstatt dass einzelne Arbeitnehmer langwierige Gerichtsverfahren durchlaufen, um zu beweisen, dass sie ein Arbeiter sind, wird es nun an den Plattformunternehmen liegen, zu beweisen, dass sie keine Mitarbeiter sind.

Die Richtlinie erkennt auch die Rolle der Gewerkschaften in allen Aspekten der Plattformwirtschaft an, auch in Fragen wie dem Algorithmus-Management. Trotz der Forderungen nach einer Schwächung dieser Bestimmung blieb sie erhalten. Nun wird es notwendig mit Tarifverhandlungen in der Plattformwirtschaft zu beginnen.

PS. Zu dieser Meldung passt aus gewerkschaftlicher Sicht, dass heute auch die ersten richtigen Betriebsratswahlen im Tesla Werk bei Berlin beginnen. 12.000 Beschäftigte können nun endlich einen starken Betriebsrat wählen, der die Zeit der "Arbeitgeber-Geschenke" durch echte Verhandlungen zwischen den Tarifparteien und im Endeffekt durch einen Tarifvertrag ersetzen und sichern kann.

GMB are talking about how they’ve achieved a historic deal- but it’s at the expense of IWGB organising, and it doesn’t guarentee workers the things that IWGB were organising for.

This is a very cynical attempt, and GMB have arguably massively undermined IWGB here. We also saw this a few times during the pandemic e.g. NASWUT calling NEU’s action during the January lockdown illegal.

I think it’s really important that unions work together at all levels, rather than undermining each other and jostling for position- actions like this can undermine people’s faith in all unions.

English people help me out, am I meant to tip on uber eats deliveroo ect?

I feel like no coz like if I were to order directly from the takeaway it wouldn’t even give me the option to tip and the only reason I would would be if it was particularly quick and I had spare change on me.

Usually with delivery services like this I just tip 10% coz I don’t want to be too stingy but people online always say 20% but I think thats usually Americans.

Any advice would be appreciated.

And is it different for groceries and stuff on uber eats? I feel like i absolutely cannot not tip if they are wandering around the shop buying my stuff, in that case do I tip more though, coz typically I would be spending more (I wouldn’t do this with frequency but occasionally uber eats send me deals where it is cheeper to do this than go in to the shop) so i feel like 20% tip maybe, maybe 10% if its not many items?

Also if you are a delivery driver or have been one please comment, obviously you are the best to hear it from.

Hola comunidad lectora, he vuelto de mis vacaciones. Me prometí no escribir si no tenía ganas o ideas, pero esta nota la escribí estando en Bélgica, aunque para no publicar sin chequear con tranquilidad preferí subirla recién hoy. Como dije anteriormente, no tomo esto como una obligación, entonces mejor me tomo mi tiempo y les entrego contenido limpio y claro.

Quiero empezar casi "cerrando" brevemente mi estadía en Dublín, obviamente hay más para contar, pero todo dependerá del feedback que tenga con ustedes. Antes de continuar tenes que saber que esta nota no va a ser tan colorida como las anteriores, tiene párrafos muy bajoneros, pero también son parte de la realidad y no está mal conocerlas.

Primero una chica que vive acá me preguntó: "¿Pensas hablar de los hechos de inseguridad que se viven en Dublín?" y luego otra chica, que también vive acá, me dijo: "Espero que no sean notas criticando a Dublín, no entiendo la gente que se queda si no le gusta vivir acá", de esos dos comentarios nace este nuevo cierre.

Para empezar sí, hay una realidad a la que no se le puede escapar y es que hay un cierto grado de violencia e inseguridad en Dublín, aunque enfatizando en el lado positivo, no es constante. Mencionaré dos tópicos, primero y lamentablemente hay mucha droga en la calle y por otro lado la cultura/religión acá sigue exigiendo que las personas sean padres/madres jóvenes, pero sin ningún sentido ni "preparación", lo que hace que esos hijos terminen tempranamente en la calle generando disturbios.

Ha'Penny un puente muy famoso en Dublín donde la gente de la calle suele pedir monedas.

Entonces tenemos dos tipos de grupos: Primero gente adulta que se ha inclinado o han sido arrastrados sistemáticamente por la droga y viven en la calle, pidiendo monedas y peleando (mayormente entre ellos). ¿Te suena conocido? si, acá también sucede, no solo en latinoamérica.

Por otro lado, tenemos un grupo de adolescentes que, en su mayoría tienen casa y familia, pero no tienen hogar. Es decir, los padres no saben cómo "manejarlos" y su mejor opción es dejarlos que salgan en grupos de 5 o más a amedrentar a la gente. Generalmente no hacen nada, pero ha sucedido que algunos optan por los insultos y hasta agresiones.

Obviamente no hace falta aclarar que no todos son iguales, pero Dublin o Irlanda en general cuenta con gente bastante racista y xenófoba, contrariamente el otro porcentaje de gente es muy amable, abierta y amigable con el extranjero. Hace un tiempo, una persona de nacionalidad argelina atacó con una navaja a una docente de preescolar y tres niños, una menor lamentablemente falleció y eso hizo que el nivel de racismo y odio hacia el migrante crezca un poco más.

Así mismo, un Delivery de nacionalidad brasileña defendió a la maestra y a los niños, desarmando al asesino. Por lo que por suerte para los latinos, nos dejó "bien parados" en la comunidad e incluso se armó una colecta donde la gente le donó por su acto de bondad cerca de 500 mil euros al hombre brasilero.

Caio el Deliveroo que frenó el ataque del hombre argelino.

En lo que a mis experiencias respecta, ni bien llegué a Dublín me tocó ver un enfrentamiento entre dos grupos de adolescentes. Se empezaron a insultar entre ellos y yo iba caminando para el mismo sentido en el medio de los dos grupos, al principio como no sabía inglés no entendía nada, pero en un momento comenzaron a tirarse botellas de vidrio entre ellos y solo me corrí unos metros, por lo que no sufrí ninguna lesión ni me atacaron a mi, solo me cagué entero (no literal jaja).

Pero bueno, saliendo de esa parte oscura y yendo por las cosas buenas. Si estás pensando en venir a Dublín, te lo recomiendo al 100% y algunos hechos de inseguridad no te tienen que frenar. Si sos latino, probablemente no te genere ni un gramo de temor y si haz recorrido o vivis en otra parte de Europa, también sabrás que sucede en todos lados.

Bueno, ahora me voy a preparar mis matecitos y voy a seguir con mi rutina, pero ya pensando en lo que se viene, la semana próxima voy a estar hablando de mi primer viaje fuera de Irlanda desde que llegué a la isla, cómo lo organicé y como recibieron al mate en otros países.
