Prompt 218
“Moom, there’s yellow-eyed creeps fighting ninjas outside the window again!”
Danny sighed, taking a deep breath- in for ten, out for eight- as he set the pot he was cleaning back in the sink. Dan- currently six- came running in from the living room of the apartment, where he was watching TV. Or he should have been if not for the bullshit outside.
He sighed again, picking up baby Ellie- currently closer to two- out of her highchair (even if she could just float out) and let his oldest drag him to the window. Sure enough, another fight was happening, with no vigilante in sight stopping it. Look, he knew most people didn’t live here, but it was still rude.
“Jordan, remember how I told you how violence isn’t always the answer?” Danny asked sweetly, Dan’s expression shifting to a wicked grin as he opened the window. “Feel free to practice tossing some fireballs while I clean up your sister, yeah?”
Ah, the sweet sound of surprised cursing and startled ecto-signatures. Maybe they’d be polite enough to take their spar elsewhere.

fearless - d. wagner
Tumblr media
a/n: i know wagner wednesday was yesterday, but fuck it. everyone can leave me alone I AM IN LOVE WITH HIM!!!! notes/warnings: extremely suggestive relationship, no use of y/n, secret relationships, tooth rotting fluff at the end, childhood best friends to lovers, danny being jealous, cursing, like so many allusions to fucking, me writing this late at night, sam, josh and jake being extremely oblivious like just the epitome of "so close! that is a shape! <3" word count: 2.3k summary: daniel has been acting awfully weird lately. luckily, the kiszka brothers are on the case! pairing: danny wagner x gn! reader now playing: fearless (taylor's version) - taylor swift “run your hands through your hair/absentmindedly making me want you/and i don't know how it gets better than this/you take my hand and drag me head first, fearless"
Samuel Kiszka had met you way back in elementary school, back when you were kind of regarded as a freak. You were playing with a ladybug on the playground during recess, and he came over and asked what you were doing. When you explained, he became fascinated with the ladybug and declared you would be its parents. Then, a stray kickball had flew over, crushing your new baby bug. Some kid laughed at Sam when he started to cry, so you decided to punch that little fucker in the face.
You had been best friends ever since.
A year after that, he came to you and introduced you to a different kid he had met in his new class, the one right beside yours. His name was Daniel.
And since then, it’s always been the three of you, against everything.
You became awfully close with the Wagners and with the Kiszkas, going as far as to call them your family. You grew up in sort of a rough environment, but there was always a place for you on Daniel’s couch or Sammy’s floor.
You smoked your first blunt together, took your first shots together, and cried over breakups that didn’t even matter anymore.
You were a tech kid in high school with a certain knack for equipment and stage managing. Sam and Danny were just starting to get more serious about their music, so there was a time when you didn’t see each other that much. You were busy with whatever production your high school was putting on, and they had formed a band with Sam’s older brothers, Jake and Josh.
You knew it had been Jake’s dream for years, so besides their mother, you consider yourself the first Greta Van Fleet fan.
When their song, Highway Tune, went viral, you just knew it meant huge things for them. You could see it in Jake’s face, hear it in Josh’s voice. This was something bigger than any of you. So, you weren’t really shocked when they came to you and told you that they had a record deal and a few shows booked around the country.
You were only sad that you’d be stuck in Michigan while your best friends toured around the country, maybe even the world.
Then, Sammy told you a stipulation of their contract was that you would get to be on the set team, and with enough experience, you’d lead that team in all the equipment and stage management you could get your hands on.
And you jumped in with them, headfirst, fearless.
That was years ago, and you haven’t looked back since.
But then Sam started to notice something.
Daniel Wagner had been distracted. Never a good thing to be while on tour.
So, he came to you with the problem.
“I’m telling you, there is something up with Daniel!” He practically whined as you packed your bag to go to the next venue.
“Sammy, nothing is up with Daniel. There’s no way.”
“He doesn’t eat, he is always staring off into the distance, he’s always scribbling in his little notebook, he’s acting weird!”
“You guys are on tour, that’s stressful. Maybe he’s just like, at max stress.” You argue, checking that you have your lights and pyro cues for the next stop of the tour.
“Why aren’t you worried about this? You should be worried, he’s your best friend too!”
You stop what you’re doing and turn to face him.
“Maybe he’s fallen madly in love with someone.”
Sam actually laughs out loud at the thought.
“Good one!” He says with a goofy grin on his face. “We would know if he was in love, don’t you think?” He asks.
“Then I just don’t know, Sammy. Go argue with Jake and Josh about this, I have to go meet with the crew about the inventory for the road.” You say, and Sam just drops it to go do exactly that.
His brothers are on the tour bus when he gets there and luckily, Danny is running late. And he is sure to mention that.
“Seems like Daniel is late again... He’s been doing that a lot, huh?” He says, trying not to act too suspiciously.
Josh and Jake share this look, like they’re trying to figure out if Sam has a point or not. But Jake starts to really think about it, and you know what? Shockingly, their younger brother does in fact have a point.
“Now that you mention it, He is acting kind of weird.” He says softly, and Josh nods.
“I had to ask him for my earrings back the other day and when I got to his room, he looked like I caught him doing something he wasn’t supposed to. I thought he was in the middle of jerking off but now that I think about it, he’s been like that a lot. Always acting like a deer in the headlights.”
So, the whole situation perplexes them, but before they can say anything else on the matter, Danny strolls onto the tour bus.
“Good morning, boys! How are we today?” Now that they had all discussed it, any behavior from him would be suspicious.
“Fine. Why are you late, Dan?” Danny was immediately alarmed by this, since Sam never called him Dan. It was always Danny or Daniel.
“Uh, I just lost my shoes in the room, and they were under my bed. Sorry, I didn’t realize I was keeping you guys waiting.”
Josh, the only one able to play anything cool, just nods, “It’s alright, we weren’t waiting for long. We should probably discuss the setlist for tonight.” Jake hums but he can’t help but notice that Danny has these large black stud earrings in. And he’s sure he’s seen them before, but he can’t quite put his finger on were.
For now, he lets it go. But he keeps it in the back of his mind for later.
They stop at a rest stop that afternoon, along with most of the tech crew who travel in their own bus. You go to check in on your boys and buy Sam a snack as a peace offering for not believing him this morning.
But instead, you run into Josh, who decides to find the others with you. You get to talking but you feel him staring at your face, and you blush.
“What, do I have something on my face?” You ask bashfully.
“No,” he hums softly, tilting his head. “You just— Where’d you get that necklace?” He swears he’s seen it before but can’t put his finger on it.
Your hand goes up to fiddle with the necklace, almost nervously.
“It’s a gift from my sister, I wore it when we graduated, remember?” Josh does not remember.
For now, he lets it go. But he keeps it in the back of his mind for later.
“Oh, yeah. Sorry, Toots, Guess I forgot.” He links arms with you, “Let’s go find the guys, huh?” He smiles. Happy to drop the subject, you go with him willingly.
Sammy, Danny, and Jake are getting their snacks when something catches Danny’s eye, and he won’t stop staring, so Sam looks to see what he could be so bothered by. And all he sees is his older brother, linking arms with you.
He smacks Danny’s arm, whose head snaps to look at him.
“Just Josh, Dude. At Ease, Soldier.” He teases. But he can’t shake this feeling that Danny was bothered by it. But why would he be?
Nothing else weird happens throughout the day, and the show that night goes well. So well, in fact that they invite you to a local bar where they can grab a few drinks and decompress from the day. And that goes really well too, except when Sam sees you the next morning and hickeys cover your neck.
“Dude! What the fuck!?” He asks, investigating your neck further. You blush and shove him off gently.
“Relax, Sammy, I just—I hooked up with someone last night that I met at the bar, and they were kind of rough. No big deal, I’ll never see them again.” You say, with a casual shrug.
Something is off about your tone. But he says nothing.
For now, he lets it go. But he keeps it in the back of his mind for later.
And then, he notices these earrings you have in.
Large black diamond studs.
“Nice Earrings.” He comments casually. He swears he’s seen them before, but like, recently! It perplexes him a bit and it must show on his face, because you are quick to clear up any confusion.
“Oh, thanks! I wore them last night for the bar and I just forgot to take them out. They aren’t too casual, so I don’t wear them too often.”
And it makes enough sense. Why would you lie to him about something as stupid as that?
Then, when he sees Danny that night, he’s covered in hickeys.
And Sam thinks he might still be drunk or high, or both. Because what the fuck is going on?! You both were acting strange, and he’s noticing these little things, so he decides to confide in Josh and Jake again, who relay their findings, and they decide they must confront Danny together.
Danny is not too shocked when he goes to get undressed and get his makeup removed only to find the boys waiting for him there. It took him a while to get back to the dressing room.
“Oh, hey guys! Sorry, I didn’t realize you were waiting for me. I got caught up talking to one of the security guards and then I got lost, this venue is so damn confusing.” And then Sam knows he’s lying because if HE could figure out how to return to the dressing room, then Danny, who has an amazing sense of direction, definitely could!
“What’s going on with you, Man?” he asks as he begins to wipe the makeup off his face.
“What? Nothing is going on with me, dude, I told you I just got lost.”
“Bullshit,” Josh calls. “You’re distracted, always late, and have suspiciously good jewelry taste as of late!”
“Yeah! And it’s affecting other people too,” Jake recalls, “Even the tech crew has noticed it! Our stage manager, our best friend, is acting weird too, and I have a feeling it’s because of your shady actions!”
And that’s when it hits Sam.
The earrings.
The hickeys.
The necklace.
The lateness.
The god damn hickeys.
“Just be real with us, Danny—” Josh starts, before Sam stands up.
“MOTHERFUCKER!” He gasps.
And that stops everyone in their tracks. He says your name to Danny, and it immediately catches his attention.
“What about them?” He asks.
“Are you sleeping with them?” Sam asks.
“What?! Sammy, c’mon—”
“Daniel Wagner, are you fucking our stage manager?!”
There’s a pause.
“Sammy. You’re acting—”
“Answer the question.”
“No!” He sighs. “I think they are lovely, and I would love to, and I want to take them on dates and woo them, but I am not fucking our stage manager, Sam. You guys are being paranoid. And if you don’t mind I’d prefer they don’t know about the fact that I like them, okay?”
All the other boys nod. Of course, It makes perfect sense! You and Danny both like each other but you aren’t able to tell each other that because of your long-standing friendship, but you’re sharing jewelry as a way of subtly telling each other. And that explains why he was staring at you and Josh the other day! And the hickeys were from other people because you couldn’t have each other! Duh! Maybe he really did get lost going back to the dressing room.
The conversation quickly shifts and moves on from Danny’s confession, and everything is normal. They could help you realize that the feelings were reciprocated.
When Danny eventually makes it out of there, he makes his way back to his hotel room. But on his way up, he quickly checks to see if any of the boys are following him, before making a stop on the way.
The knock on your door doesn’t startle you, in fact, you were kind of ready for it. You had gotten back a little while ago and turned on the shower to let it heat up. When you answer it, you grin up at him and grab his arm, pulling him inside. He shuts the door behind himself, before his arms are around your waist, leaning in for a long kiss.
It’s full of this gentleness that he grants you because, well, he always greets you with one sweet, truly loving kiss.
When he pulls away, he grins back at you.
“Hi, sweets.” He hums.
“Hey, handsome.” You respond, “Did you put the boys to bed like I asked?” He laughs at your phrasing, leaning down to kiss your jaw. And then your neck. Again. And again. And one more time for good measure.
“Mhm. They asked me if we were together though.” He keeps kissing your neck.
“I figured as much; they’ve been acting weird.”
“They might think I have a crush on you, now.” He says between kisses.
“And what would give them that idea?” You ask.
“…The fact that I told them I had a crush on you.”
“Well, do you?”
“Mm... I dunno. Might have to kiss you a few more times before I decide for certain.” You grin.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah... Maybe a little more than kissing too...”
“Well, don’t let me stand in the way of your methods, Danny.”
He grins, and kisses you again, this time, deeper, with none of the gentleness of the initial kiss. But there’s a new feeling you get from him now. Hunger.
And you kiss back, as if you have something deeper than hunger. Starvation, maybe.
And you don’t think either of you will ever be satiated.
By the end of the night, he decides he most definitely has a crush on you.

Phic Phight - Add Some Spirit in To Better Cheer It!
@thesilentbard @lavendarlily @Silverwing013
We've Got Spirit, Yes We Do! We've Got Spirit’s, More Than Two! We’ve Got Enough Spirits, To Beat The Shit Out Of You!
Paulina had had her curiosities peaked back when Ember McLain, oh my GOD, and the strange pirate child had abducted all their parents. The weirdo trio were not as pathetic as they often acted.
Sure that goth girl -why? Does that girl still think those clothes somehow look good? Ew- was always known to be fit and whatnot, but Paulina hardly cared about that stuff. Strength didn’t equal balance or grace. There was nothing graceful about the goth, the techy, or the freak.
Or so she had thought.
All three moved so well during that invasion, sure it could have been dumb luck, or whatever. But now she was sure it wasn’t.
Freaky Fenton had just done a triple backflip spring off of a wall and into a tree… He did it like it was nothing. Now he’s staring down at her from the tree, with her staring up at him from the base of the tree.
All she had been doing was working on clothing design sketches, she hadn’t expected someone to come bolting out across car roof tops; much less the Fenton boy of all people. She blinks at him before putting her hands to her cheeks, “that was a-mazing, oh mi god!”.
Fenton physically winces, “we’re… having a race”.
Both of them glancing up at the roof tops when a motorcycle zooms by, that greasy-haired -ew- biker ghost flipping them off, “ha! Suck on the distraction, dipshit!”. Fenton standing up on the tree branch without so much as a wobble and sticking his hands out to the side, “go crash into a wall!”.
Paulina shakes her head out, “you were racing a motorcycle on foot?”. That shouldn’t be possible right? Oh whatever, Fenton doesn’t even wobble when he bends down to look at her again.
She’s decided.
She must have him.
“Uh. He gave me a head start? A head start I totally wasted”.
She pouts at him, this was such a waste! “If you can move like that why are you wasting it so much. That’s not cute you know”.
“Paulina, do you think I give a single fruity fuck?”.
Then the Manson girl comes sliding down a pipe from the rooftop, the techno one following while fiddling with a pda.
Oh this was just perfect! She could fill up so many holes!
Jumping up and pointing at both teens, startling them a little, the tech actually walking into Manson’s back.
Poor awareness, but she could work on that.
Paulina making sure to put on a pretty pout, the kind that makes her eyes twinkle, “you absolutely must join the cheer squad!”.
“Hell no”.
“A group filled with cute girls? Count me in!”.
Paulina skips over and pinches the techno one’s ear, “no, bad, teammates are off limits”.
Danny groans from the tree, flopping over on the branch, “you’re talking like this is already decided”.
She turns her head back to the boy, oh silly silly boy, “it is”, and nods curtly to herself. Who were they to deny her? She was moving them up in the world, they should feel honoured.
Manson walks over to Fenton, without even looking at Paulina, how rude. “Says who? You? Like miss shallow puddle? As if. And shut up, Tucker”.
Riiiight. That was the techno one’s name. Silly her. Well why would she bother remembering the names of the lower class? Though if they were going to be her teammates, she should at least try…
Fenton drops out of the tree, humming, “will it get me out of Tetslaufs stupid sports class?”. The goth sounds mad, “Danny! Don’t humour her and her shit!”.
Paulina huffs cutely, “oh let him, I don’t know why you’re not. I’m-”, putting a dainty hand to her chest, “-asking… you-”, gesturing around at the goths… everything, “-to join the cheer team. A privilege”.
The goth snarls, “take your privilege and shove it”.
The tech-Tucker pouts, it’s not a good look. She’s going to have to work on that with him. “Aw but Sam, being surrounded by cute girls sounds very privileged to me”.
“You disgust me”.
Paulina doesn’t not agree with that… he was a creep. But he was a creep that could nearly walk down a rooftop pipe without looking where he’s going or wobbling. Huffing softly at the techno boy before looking to Fenton, “of course, Testlauf will do anything for the team. The cheer squad keeps the jocks happy and entertains everyone, she loves us”, humming, “and Lancer loves cheerleading too”.
Fenton makes a few faces, “right, he used to cheer. Very weird”, leaning back and groaning, “he’ll be thrilled about this, damn it”.
Oh that’s right! Mr. Lancer -most boring teacher evar- had a major soft spot for Fenton. Why? Who knows. She doesn’t care. “Well then do it for him”, fluttering her eyelashes at him when he looks back to her, “pwetty pwease?”.
Sam groans and buries her head in her hands, “we’re doomed”.
Fenton sighs, eyes Manson who glares at him, eyes Tucker who raises and lowers his eyes brows creepily (ew); and sighs again. “Ugh, fine. Why am I like this?”.
Sam smacks him, “dumbass”, then glares at Paulina and crosses her arms, “fine. You win. Happy?”.
Paulina beams at the goth, giggling happily, “yes, very much”.
Dash was going to freak, she can’t wait. She ignores Tucker doing… some kind of ‘dance’ thing. It’s creepy, it’s embarrassing, it’s pathetic. She almost regrets incubating him, almost, but she will make it work!
Paulina practically skips over the Star, “girl you will never guess what”. Star smiles softly at her, so Paulina continues, “that weirdo trio? Yeah totally agile. Like balancing in a tree agile”, putting a hand to her chest, “and I wasn’t going to waste that so guess who’s joining the team?”.
Star gasps, scandalised, “You didn’t”.
Paulina giggles, “I did”.
“No”.
“Yes”.
“Oh mi Zone girl”.
“I know right?”.
Star giggles, “Dash is going to cry”.
Paulina nodding back rapidly with a bell-like laugh, “totally”, waving a hand around, “that Tacket, I think that’s right, is still creepy though, so like, ew”.
“Well no one would date him anyway, so whatever”, Star pushing Paulina’s shoulder gently, “you finally snagged miss ookie spookie, got her to cave instead of being all ‘I am to dark for that’. She’s been perfect cheer material since we were kids!”.
Paulina pouts, that had always bothered her, she had tried many times to get the goth but she finally won! “I know! It was so sad”, pouting more, “there’s no way we can get her to pretty up tho, dios mio”.
Star grins and wiggles, “think we could get Fenton to pretty up”.
Paulina gasps in shock, “don’t make me even picture him in a dress! He has way too much muscle for that! Even if he is still skinny”.
Mr. Lancer startles her a little. Not that she lets him see that. “So I heard you girls recruited Daniel?”. Star jumps a little though.
Paulina turning a blinding smile on the teacher, “yup! He flipped into a tree without even stumbling! I was suuuuuuper impressed!”.
Mr. Lancer blinks and grins, “I’m not even a little surprised by that, good for the team”, grin growing, “hopefully we’ll win cheer state this year”.
Hmpf. The only reason they didn’t last year was because of stupid Emilie, Ellen-high had found a diamond with that girl. Why couldn’t she go to Casper-high instead. Rude. Well whatever, at least no one on of her team was some druggie loser.
… even if the whole weirdo trio were total freaks.
Paulina is almost squirming with joy waiting for the weirdos to show up, the rest of the team can obviously tell she’s excited; which obviously means there’s new members.
Or she was dating someone new, which she obviously was not. She’s preparing for fashion school after all! She has better things to do than boys. Such a sad thing for so many silly boys.
The doors open, the trio walks in, and Casey huffs, “um why are they here?”.
Paulina grins, rounding on Manson, “throw Fenton at the basket ball hoop”.
Sam grins meanly, grabbing Fenton, “now that you don’t have to ask twenty times for”, and hurls Danny at the hoop. He just twists in the air to land on top of the hoop part in a crouch and pouts at Paulina.
Paulina turns back to her cheerleaders, and hums proudly, “see?”.
Bailey puts a hand over her mouth and squeals, “oh my Zone! We are so winning state side!”, running over and poking a slightly wide-eyed Tackor?, “and I totally saw you juggling a laptop! You can so totally lift me!”, putting a hand to her chest, “I only weigh one hundred pounds”.
All of the cheer team responding in unison, “you need to eat more”. Making Bailey squirm, she was much too skinny there was no way it was healthy; and Paulina was having none of that on her watch. Thin may be pretty but bones were not. Plus! You need energy to be pretty and to cheer.
Though there was that one skeleton ghost with stellar hips. But that’s a ghost. Very different.
Manson rolls her eyes at Bailey, “and I agree with all of them”. Bailey pouts more. Mason sighs, “I… have tons of healthy recipes if you care”.
Paulina grins to herself and multiple girls giggle. The goth would come around yet. Plus Bailey looks to actually think about it. Good. Oh yes, very good.
Teckur grins, whispering, “this is gonna be awesome”; Manson swats him over the head.
Fenton flings himself down off the hoop, landing in an easy crouch and sauntering over. If he was a girl and had good hips…. “Okay so look”, making a weird gesture with his hands at them, “I may have done one too many feats of skill, one too many times”.
Sam quirks an eyebrow towards the boy, “‘may have’? Danny?”.
Danny rolls his eyes back, “shush you”, looking back at the cheer team, “and yeah, maybe I just want out of Testlauf’s Hell class. So anyways, hi”, pointing at his face, “Danny. Not Daniel or Fenton”, pointing at Manson, “Sam, not Sammy or Samantha or Manson”, pointing at Tracker, “Tuck or Tucker, not Foley”.
So maybe they didn’t love being called by last names. Fair enough, and she had decided she’d at least try. But did Tucker have to have such a weird name? ‘Tuck’ could be like tuck and roll though so maybe….
Sammy was sooooo much cuter than Sam though, but Samantha was just an old lady name; who names their kid that? Ew.
And Danny was Danny. She only really called him by his last name because the football boys did. Because Dash and Kwan did.
Paulina turning to the team, “okay girls, let’s show the newbies how it’s done”.
What follows is a lot of practice jumps, flips, lifts, simple tosses, splits (that Tuckar winces over), and precisely one double down. It takes almost nothing to convince Tacker and Danny to get involved; even it the techno geek had pouted after being told the girls wore shorts under their skirts (ew), at least Danny smacked him. Then, eventually, Mans-Sam sighed and joined In.
Watching the three of them do a three person human tower, or physically throw each other around seemingly carelessly was a bit scary to everyone though. The level of trust was so adorable! But no way was she letting Danny throw someone twenty feet in the air and having them land on just one of his hands, that would probably get them banned from competitions.
Tracer’s reaction time was no where good enough to be thrown by anyone else though, her having watched Sam intentionally let him land on his butt more than once. Chelsea got kicked in the face and was going to complain about the bruise for weeks, Paulina would too. Very little was worse than a scuffed up, banged up, face; the horror. Danny was going to have to work on getting banged up less, it was so not pretty; he was a boy though so he could get away with it more.
Sam also kept pretending she wasn’t going to even try to provide support or catch and just would not stop frowning… except when someone messed up. She was not going to be great for moral.
Danny though, Danny would be their Emilie… so long as he watched his obviously weirdo strength. Anyone who could lift Charlie one-handed was to be feared. Charlie was charmed, which was bad, Paulina had to glare at the blushing startled poor girl. But also, Danny weighed nothing, actually nothing. Her mom’s crockpot weighed more! He got the same lecture from everyone as Bailey. He blamed his ‘ecto-contamination’ thing, she didn’t believe it, he threatened to eat eighteen mighty meaty hamburgers a day to prove it…
Paulina’s pretty sure that was not physically possible for someone to do. Like, evar.
But he looked like he meant it (he did, he did not gain weight. The second to the top of the tower position was very officially his).
Paulina claps her hands together after about two hours, “okay, great work everyone”, pointing at Danny with a playful smirk, “you can be anything, cool right, totally. Flyer, base, or spotter”, pointing at Tuller? Tucker? Tucker, “you are banned from being a flyer”, pointing at Manson, “and you’re too mean to be a spotter”. Sam flips her off, so unlady-like. Ugh.
Chelsea huffs, crossing her arms, “if Tucker is ever a flyer, I’m quitting”. Earning more than a few giggles and laughs.
Tucker shrugs, “I think I’m good staying on the ground”. Sam glaring, “and I’ll beat you into it if you even try hiding all the uniforms shorts”. Ticker glances away like he actually thought about that, so ew so so ew. Paulina’s putting in an order for spare shorts. Ew.
Star finally, hurry up gurl!, shows up, “speaking of uniforms-”.
Multiple squealing girls interrupt her to run over and hug her; Manson fake gags. Tuck just looks uncomfortable, right didn’t they date for a while? As pity or something? Not that Paulina actually remembers that, since a ghost possessed her body to date Danny. So freaky, so ew, so not worth thinking about. At least he didn’t get awkward around her because of that, hmpf.
After Star’s done patting all the girls aand doing hugs, “okay okay, I love yall too! But we have things to address”. The group gives her room and she eyes Danny and Tucer, “so what are you boys wearing?”.
Sam snorts, “if you think these two idiots are getting away scot free for dragging me into this, forget it. They’re wearing the normal, skirt included, uniform”, waving a hand, “besides, it’s not like they’ve never cross-dressed before”.
Everyone, which was fair because what?, give the two boys weird judgy looks.
Tuck sputters, gross, “hey! That was because you wanted someone to pretended to be you so you could run away to the circus! And I rocked it, I’ll have you know!”.
“Purple is not your colour”.
Tuck makes more ugly faces.
Olivia tilts her head, “but she’s pale and you’re dark, how would that have ever worked?”. Getting three, “people are blind”, replies in return.
Paulina could agree with that, boys especially were very blind; that’s what made them so much fun to tease!
Casey snickers, one hand over her mouth, “so we’re going to get the boys in skirts. Ha”. Sam pointing at her, “hey, clothes have no gender”. Casey rolling her eyes, “riiiight, toootally”, and snickering more.
Danny chuckles, “hey I’m pretty sure last time I went to one of Vlad’s stupid galas in a ball-gown in an attempt to embarrass him, I got more compliments than he did business offers”.
Olivia blinks, “you go to galas with the, like, super rich mayor”.
Danny raises an eyebrow, giving the girl one of those ‘are you dumb’ looks. Paulina’s confused too though, “well yeah? He’s my uncle? I co-own all his businesses? I’m the only recipient on his will?”.
“YOU’RE RICH!”.
Paulina is shook.
Shocked.
How and why?
Sam face-palms, “oh my Zone, really?”, sighing and giving everyone a very judgy, mean popular girl worthy, smile, “how have you not realized that? Even his parents are rich, not Vlad rich but whatever. Heck, all of us are filthy stinkin’ rich”.
“WHAT!”.
“Then why do you hang around with the lower class?”.
“Shouldn’t you be all popular then?”.
“Why don’t you, you know, brag about your money? I’d brag”.
“So you all dress this way by choice?”.
Tuck bends over laugh wheezing, “wow! Honest or what!”.
Danny putting a hand to his chest, “hey, I like my dumpster-chic. It’s comfy and it’s makes Vlad’s left eye do that twitchy thing”.
Casey looks pleased, “wow, you are so petty. I like it”. Danny gives her a goofy thumbs up.
Sam points a thumb at Danny, “the only expensive clothes he wears is tactical Kevlar”.
“Well it’s very good to have, you know, in case I get abducted to be hunted for sport in the wilderness again”.
Bailey blinks, “Again?”.
Right, Paulina kinda forgot that Danny had had a very weird life, and really weird things just kept happening to the boy. This was totally another weird thing in his mind, the lesser class could never appreciate a good thing… even if they weren’t really lower class or whatever. If they didn’t want to be assumed to be lower class then they would act like they were! Hmpf.
Sam sighs, “to get this out of the way, nice to know how little your type pay attention to us, I’m the only heiress of the Manson family fortune since nana Ida hates my parents so they’ll get nothing from her. Tucker is the only descendent of a very wealthy Egyptian Pharaoh that actually looks like said Pharaoh meaning he gets the money. And Danny’s Danny, the weird hyper-fixation of one of the wealthiest men on the planet”.
Danny does jazz hands, “go me! Woo!”, putting a hand to his chest, “we’re rich and we’re hot”.
Sam and Tuck joining it, “they want our money and our bodies”.
At least that gets them some laughs.
Looks and body fitness was, like, ninety-nine percent of cheer after all. So of course she was absolutely after them for their bodies. Wealth never hurt though!
Star shakes her head, before smacking her fist into the palm of her hand, “right, you guys totally haven’t met the team pets yet, have you?”, looking to Paulina, “they totally haven’t right?”.
Paulina almost forgot about that! If Danny was like his freak folks she’d be worried, and she totally needs something to help her ignore them being rich but too silly to be smart about it. Flaunt it! What is wrong with them??! “Nope!”.
Tic tilts his head, “since when did the cheerleaders have pets?”.
Paulina waves him off, “oh only since the last big game, they just showed up and they’re close enough to ravens that we claimed them. Even if they talk funny”. Chelsea could nevar figure out what they were saying half the time, it was so cute.
Danny makes a face, “so that’s a yes to them being ghosts and a no to any of them being a green dog”. Sam smacks him, “oh you’d just love it if it was your stupid puppy”.
Charlie squealing and running over, “you have a puppy! Show me right now!”. Paulina smiling to herself as basically everyone crowds around the weird boys phone. Cujo was absolutely adorable, very green, but adorable with its little floppy tongue and big eyes.
Star laughing, “okay okay, adorable dog, but it’s decided that we’re sticking with everyone wearing the standard uniform, yeah?”.
Sam’s ‘yes’ is mean. Tuck’s is pitiful. Danny’s gets followed up by a finger snap and wink.
And then everyone pulls out their phones to bombard the trio with pictures of the vultures. They just had so many silly ones!
Danny bursts out laughing, falling over, Tuck right behind; even Sam bends over laughing. Sam explaining while the boys die on the floor, “how! How did you! Did you guys! Adopt Vlad’s minions?!”, the goth is actually tearing up, “oh this was worth showing up for”.
Basically all of the team shouts, “THEY BELONG TO THE MAYOR!?!”.
Danny cackles, “oh they’re gonna be so mad! What? Did they get bombarded by Vlad’s obsession with the Packers one too many times? Ha!”.
A grinning Casey just eggs them on, “yes actually. They were curious about the sport, the guys liked their merciless bites, we think they’re better than a raven fursuiter; they didn’t get a say”.
Harley waving a hand, “oh whatever, they keep showing back up anyways so it’s fucking mutual”.
Danny pushes himself up, making Tuck flop over on his side still laughing, “I have absolutely used each and every one of those fez wearing fucks as a piñata”.
Most of the girls swat at him, “stop that!”. Good, they’re bonding. This might work yet.
(The later meeting of weirdo trio and three fez wearing vultures did go less than well. The vultures threatened to peck out Danny’s eyes? He threatened to use their feathers as pillow stuffing. Tuck openly debated how they’d taste with bbq sauce, ew; he was scolded utterly. Sam just glared. The vultures were offended by the weirdo trio joining the team, the team -Paulina- defended their reasonings, Danny gave the vultures noogies, they seemed to accept their fate. Paulina felt very proud of herself).
Ms. Testlauf bursts in, in the manly way she does, with the foot ball team following her, “now this I had to see for myself! You tell me those two pip-squeaks actually agreed to do something physical?!?”. Multiple guys are jeering as well, because of course they are. Tuck scrambles up out of clear fear.
While Danny is busy waving awkwardly Paulina saunters over to Dash and Kwan, who look just so confused, “so? Apparently everyone is still wearing skirts and halter tops”.
Kwan beams, “rock on. The tank tops and men’s shorts ones look awful”. Paulina nodding readily, “I know right?”. Dash actually pouts, “how could you do this to me, Paulie?”; she only giggles at him.
His little ‘crush’ might not mean anything to her here but she will absolutely use this as an excuses to help make a cute little couple. So adorable. Danny would be absolutely swimming in Dash’s varsity jacket.
Testlauf crossing her arms at Paulina obviously wanting her to just get on with it, so Paulina sighs, looking back to her team, weirdo trio included, “alright everyone, time to show off, and I mean everyone you three”. All three groan dramatically. At least they knew how to overact so that people can actually see their faces from thestands. Pointing at the three, “do that really scary double single handed rewind toss”.
Sam and Tuck doing backflips to land in Danny’s separate hands, then he physically throws both of them up in the air, them landing together on one of his hands, each with one hand interlocked letting them both lean sideways. Very illegal. So dangerous. So worth it.
Testlauf points at Danny, “I am mad with you”, while all the boys shout and cheer much at the now blushing teens embarrassment. Adorable. Multiple jocks laugh about how Danny could probably, throw them; Dash looks like he wants to scream.
Sam grumbling as she falls down into a handstand before upright again, “yeah well, I still say black would be a better uniform for a team called the Ravens”.
“Dios mi, never!”.
Testlauf huffing, “why do you never show this skill, pathetic”.
“Don’t like sports”.
“Gym being mandatory is a waste of my free time, I exist out of spite”.
“The entire notion of a graded gym class and the high value placed on physical capability is inherently ableist”.
Testlauf growls at them, they smirk back. Paulina shoos them to go practice/show off with the rest of the team, since their agility and whatever had been shown already. Her then elbowing Star, whispering while eyeing Dash, “you should totally go get some of the spare uniforms”, and wiggles her eyebrows at the other girl.
Star giggles, “oh totally”, and waves meanly at Dash as she heads over to the gym storage closet. Meanwhile, Bailey lands on Tuck’s head, Charlie having to catch both of them; Testlauf barking out a laugh at them.
Paulina nodding at the third successful tik tok move in a row, clapping her hands together as Star pops out of the storage closet with a wide grin, “alright, take five. A few someone’s need to put on a fashion show”. That gets a ton of cheering from the team, the jokes whistle… only the weirdo trio stays silent. Star walking the outfits over to them and shoving them to their respective changing rooms; Sam literally growling the whole time. That girl was such a freak, but she was the teams freak now.
The jocks all start elbowing Dash and laughing at him as soon as the trio are all out of sight; Dash actually shouting, “Damn It Fentwink!”.
All three come back out, wearing the uniforms; Sam looks sooooo pissed that Paulina has to giggle at her with one hand daintily over her mouth to ‘pretend’ she’s trying not to laugh. Tuck is trying to act like he’s rocking it but it’s… alight she guesses? Danny… just looks like he’s used to wearing it, it fits him way too well for a boy.
Dash buries his face in his hands and groans, cheeks a bright pink.
That silly boy was soooo screwed.
(Dash was, in fact, screwed. He stood precisely zero chance against Danny in a cheerleading outfit)
Then Paulina sees Sam see Dash’s blush and the goth grins meanly, “never mind, best worst decision ever”. Seems tormenting a Jock and his silly little crush was all it took to get the goth on board. Good. And incredibly cute. Sam smacking Danny on the back, “go get ‘em, tiger”.
“Sam the only thing I’m gonna get is Vlad trying to get me into college football cheer leading”.
Tuck pouting, “what about me?”.
“I hope an actual tiger is all you get”.
Tacker shrugs, “I mean, if they’re actually a fursuiter…”; multiple people smack him.
Sadly, poor girl, Olivia actually asks, “what’s a fursuiter”. With everyone shouting, “NO!”, at Tuck; Tatslauf laughing loudly.
Fez-wearing Vulture no.1 lands down on Vlad’s desk, “ya shoz watch te next Cazper game”. Vlad barely acknowledges his minion, “as much as I would love to support the locals that have taken you lot in like strays and their not so pitiful attempt at my preferred sport, I am still trying to figure out how to get Fizztle’s stock shares somewhat legally”.
The vulture inspects its claws, “Phantom’z in itz”.
Vlad stops immediately, Daniel was participating? In football? When? Why? How even? Could he use game talk as a bonding experience now? Standing up and pushing the papers aside, “change of plans, there’s a game I clearly must show my support for. I am the mayor after all, and foot ball is a very important sport for voter support and good faith”.
“Yaz, surez. Ya tellz ya self that”.
“I will incinerate you”.
“Ha! I’d like to see’vez youz try!”. Vlad does try it, Vulture no.1 flees, “hmpf. That team treatz uz far better than yaz”. Vlad just rolls his eyes at that.
(Vlad was baffled and utterly filled with disappointed disbelief when Daniel waved to him in a cheer leading outfit. Vulture no. 1 looking very smug from one of the cheerleaders arms, Vulture no.3 looked more murderous when the gunner threw It at the opposing teams costumed mascot.
Vlad spent almost as much time watching the cheer routine, that was needlessly dangerous, as he did watching the actual game. Apparently the crowd loved that even Daniel and that techno friend of his were wearing the female uniform, Vlad had been more so wondering how to explain this to investors someday. The potential bonding with his vulture minions was a net positive, of course.
Daniel also still somehow managed to get hit by a football, him not dropping the brunette girl during that was at least somewhat impressive though. The star quarterback though…. kept fumbling the ball every time he looked the cheer teams way…. young men and their ever distracting crushes messing their lives up. Vlad would place money on the teens ‘crush’ being a member of Daniel’s little group, since being the star player meant he wasn’t normally like this, Vlad pities the boy immensely.
The Raven’s absolutely do not wind up winning, but Vlad could tell the boys were all teasing the quarterback mercilessly; Daniel’s goth friend starts a fist fight with Vulture no.2. But both teams cheer teams all swarm Daniel’s little trio with clear praise. Good, his little heir deserves to bask in praise, regardless of it being from cheering and wearing a skirt… and teaming up with the peons who stole his minions).
End.
Prompts: After a display of physical prowess, Sam gets recruited to the cheer squad. This might be the best, worst thing that's ever happened. Who knew Danny Fenton was so agile? Paulina makes it her personal mission to get him on the cheer squad. The ghostly vulture trio heard enough about the Packers and got curious about the sport, next thing they knew…they've been adopted in by the Casper High football team and cheerleaders.

Maybe ghosts aren’t the real monsters after all
fanfiction
ao3
word count: 1123
"The date started off so well, beginning my night not expecting the fright of my life. They were perfect from what I could tell. How could I not see the danger right in front of me-" (dark ages preferred but please go hog wild with other ships that would be hilarious/fun to write this with!) @kawaiijohn
i watched an episode to include a line in here then realized i couldnt actually include that line or it wouldnt work jknhbgf
Valerie smiled at Danny as he sat down in the chair across from her. She was glad they could finally make this work. She no longer needed to work two jobs to help her dad pay rent, not with his new job. So she kept her cashier job at the Nasty Burger and dumped the other one. Now she only had to worry about one job, school, and hunting ghosts.
She remembered that she broke up with him because she didn’t want to put him in danger. She remembered how Phantom targeted her that one day. Well, not her. It was her suit. But he didn’t know that. For all she knew, he was out there trying to murder her that day.
But looking at Danny now was enough to put those worries out of her head. It’s not like the ghosts had an issue with him. It was just her. And his parents. But the ghosts could care less about his parents. They barely paid her any mind. It would be fine. They wouldn’t hurt him.
Ghosts were the last thing she wanted to be thinking about anyway. Especially when she had what she was convinced to be the love of her life sitting right in front of her. Ghosts could wait for the time being.
They were at a nice restaurant. It was nothing fancy, affordable enough for two teenagers. It was better than the Nasty Burger, though. She appreciated it.
A waiter walked up to them. “Hi guys, I’m Clara and I’ll be your server today! Can I get you started off with some drinks?”
“Yeah!” Danny said. “Can I get a Pepsi?”
“You bet!” Clara wrote it down and turned to Valerie. “What can I get for you?”
“I’ll take a Sprite.”
“Okay.” Clara jotted that down as well. “I’ll go get those for you and give you some time to look at the menu.”
“Thanks.”
“Thank you.”
“What do you think looks good?” Danny asked shyly. “I’ve never actually been here before.”
“Well, they’ve got a big pasta section. Everyone loves noodles.”
Danny nodded, flipping to a new page in the menu and studying it. “I do love noodles.”
They looked at their menus for a couple minutes, keeping their conversation light. Soon Clara came back with their drinks and took their orders. They continued to talk while they waited for their food.
Valerie laughed. “How did you get Dash to do that? He’d never!”
“He’d never back down from a challenge. It’s all about how you play it up. If you make it sound like he’s a wuss for not doing something he’ll take the bait.”
Then Clara was returning, a tray of food resting on one of her hands. “Here we go! Shrimp and broccoli fettuccine alfredo for you.” She placed the plate down in front of Danny. “And smoked salmon for the lady.”
“Thank you!” Valerie said. “It looks delicious.”
“I hope you enjoy-” Clara cut herself off with a scream, looking up past Valerie. She turned around to see the Lunch Lady ghost floating behind her.
So much for the ghosts waiting.
“Come on!” Danny groaned. “I won’t even get to eat my food!”
“This restaurant will rue the day that it broke healthcode violations!”
Danny made a face up at the ghost. “At least she has a good reason this time I guess?”
“Get down!” Valerie grabbed his shirt from across the table and pulled him down with her so they could hide underneath it. She needed to get Danny out of here so he’d be safe. And so she could transform. She wished he knew her secret, that would make this much easier. Almost everyone else had already ran out of the building by now. There’d be no one else to see.
“Watch out!”
Valerie had been distracted trying to find a way out that she didn’t notice the floating knives pointing at her. She watched as they started flying through the air towards her but then she was being shoved out of the way. She landed on the ground a couple feet away and wrenched her gaze towards the spot Danny had pushed her out of. Had he been hurt?
He stood there, the knives embedded into the wooden floor behind him.
How did he do that? He couldn’t have dodged those.
“Sorry, Valerie.”
What did he need to apologize for? He just saved her! She should be the one apologizing to-
Valerie’s train of thought stopped as two bright rings appeared around his waist.
She watched them split and separate. They traveled along his body, passing over his head and his feet. Left in Danny’s place was Phantom.
He sprung up and started fighting the Lunch Lady. Valerie could only watch in a daze.
The disguise was so perfect. She couldn’t even tell that that wasn’t Danny. How could she not have seen the dangerous ghost that had been sitting right in front of her?
She watched him grab the thermos that now always hung by his waist and trapped the Lunch Lady inside it. He touched back down on the ground. When he turned to face her, Valerie socked him in the face.
“Ow!” Phantom shouted, holding his jaw. “What was that for?”
She activated her suit and transformed. Pulling out a gun, she aimed it at him.
“Where is he?” She asked lowly.
“Where is who?” He looked confused. His facade made her angry.
“Danny Fenton!” She yelled. “What did you do to him? Did you hurt him to get to me?”
“What? No, Valerie. I’m-”
“How long?” She asked. “How long have you been toying with my feelings? Playing this game? Where did the real Danny go?”
“There is no real Danny!” He stood back up and looked at her. “There’s only one! Me! I’ve been Danny and Phantom this whole time!”
She shook her gun at him. “Oh yeah? How do you explain destroying my suit?”
“You weren’t in it.”
“You ruined my life!” She threw her hands into the air. “You’ve made it a living hell! My dad lost his job all because of you! Danny would never do that!”
His hands raised up to his head and grabbed his hair tightly. He looked back at her. “It was an accident! How many times do I have to tell you that?”
“Why should I believe anything you say if you’ve been lying to me this whole time anyways?”
Their silence weighed heavily on them. He didn’t say anything to that. He looked away from her.
“Maybe ghosts aren’t the real monsters after all.”
His head shot back up at her quiet words.
“Valerie, wait-”
“No.” She turned away from him. “I need to be alone.”

Find the Word
tagged by @winterandwords to find the words make, meal, more, and meet!
from The Black & Blues because I’ve pretty much used every quote I can from Puzzle and Princess, haha
cw: briefly implied past suicidal ideation (that was never acted on), swearing
make:
Kris takes a little longer to respond. He’s majoring in philosophy, with the intention to become a college professor, so he’s the busiest of all of you. Tons of readings and papers and research and debate.
“I think I could manage it,” he finally says. His mouth twists and he rolls his eyes to one side in thought. “I’d have to budget my time really well. But as long as you’re cool with me only making two practices a week, I could make it happen.”
You perk up, your whole body thrumming with excitement. You barely even notice Danny’s leg shifting away.
“Yes, yes, fuck yes!” you laugh, whacking your hands on the table, because you can’t sit still, it’s too exciting, you’re about to combust with joy.
meal:
After graduation, when you tell [Tyler] you’re moving to Chicago with your best friend to try to make something of yourself, you make him promise he’ll do what he needs to be himself, too. Whether that means moving or staying and making the town a better place. He cries. So do you.
If anyone could make a difference here, it’s him.
Danny took a gap year so you could both start school at the same time. You end up at DePaul, because even though Danny got accepted to some even better schools, DePaul is giving you lots of scholarship money, including dorms and meal plan paid for. Danny’s parents are willing to pay for him to make up the difference between his scholarship (which is less than yours but still pretty good) and what he’ll owe the school. You’re never going to speak to your family again.
more:
Then, one day after school, in Danny’s bright green and yellow bedroom, he pulls out an audiocassette and says, “You have to hear this.”
He sticks it in his walkman and shoves the headphones over your ears. The music starts.
“Danny,” you say, “this is just a cover of Smells Like Teen–”
But then the lyrics start, and you could cry, you could absolutely break down right here on the floor in Danny’s bedroom.
Against all odds, we appear/Grew up brainwashed/But turned out queer–
From there on it gets more graphic. This tape is clearly meant for adults. But for you, a lonely gay kid in a homophobic town in the middle of nowhere, it means so much. There are others. It’s not just you and Danny and Billie Joe Armstrong. There are other singers, and musicians, and bands, and people like you.
Danny keeps finding more and more queer punk bands and zines, and you listen to and read each one in the safety of his bedroom, always with headphones, songs curated especially for you. You listen to them like gospel, never daring to sing them aloud at home lest your parents hear you, or your brother, or your sisters. It’s 1999 and you’re only thirteen but you don’t think they’d hesitate to kick you out if they knew.
meet:
You meet up with everyone for coffee on Friday night. Austin and the others are all old enough to drink, but you and Danny are still too young, and while drinking in the privacy of a friend’s home would be fine, you’re not ballsy enough to get a fake ID.
You’re vibrating again, distracted, thinking about tomorrow morning. When Danny nudges your shoulder with your elbow, you jump, and you laugh a little, embarrassed.
“Sorry,” you say. “I was. I’m just really excited. There were times I thought I’d never make it this far alive, much less doing something I’ve always wanted to do.”
Kris’s and Sara’s faces go sad, and Austin’s brow furrows in. You were so used to saying things like that growing up, sometimes you forget that’s not a normal thing.
You wave the comment away with your hand. “It’s nothing,” you say. “I’m just really excited. I love playing and I love music and I’ve always wanted to be in a band.”
tagging some new folks from a list I found! @written-in-gold @whogavemeapen @shaicarus and also my excellent mutuals @winterandwords @drippingmoon and @kaiusvnoir because I can’t get enough of their work <3

•-•
Natalie: You ever wanna talk about your emotions, Micah?
Micah: No
Danny: I do
Natalie: I know Danny
Danny: I’m sad
Natalie: I know Danny
•-•
Evelyn: I spilled lipstick in your Valentino bag
Lily: You spi—wh-wh-wh—lipstick in my Valentino white bag—!!!

Sam: Remember what I taught you, Micah? The quickest way to a man's heart is...?
Micah: Through the third and fourth rib
Sam: no
Darlin': *fist bumps Micah*
•-•
Gabriel: Guess it's time to bring out the big guns!
Natalie: Please don’t take your shirt off
•-•
Micah: Dating tip! Hold the door for your date. Rip the door off its hinges. Then use the door as a weapon to fight off other suitors. Establish your dominance—
Lily: I’m beginning to see why you’re still single
Gabriel: No, no. Let her finish
•-•
Lily: So... Natalie kissed you, and you said "Thank you"?
Danny, lying facedown on the floor, cloaked: Yeeesss
Lily: Well, that's... very polite
•-•
Some Random Classmate: Hey can I get your number?
Evelyn, looking him dead in the eye while visibly texting: I don't have a phone
•-•
Rose Solaire: I am at a loss for words!
Micah, narrating: Despite being at a loss for words, Rose continued to lecture me for 25 minutes
•-•
Justin: Can I ask a dumb question?
Micah: Better than anybody I know
•-•
Bad Guy: I've brought you here because I crave the deadliest game
Gabriel, Natalie, Evelyn, Lily, Danny, and Micah, simultaneously: *nodding* Knife Monopoly
Bad Guy: Okay I was going to hunt you for sport but now I'm interested in whatever Knife Monopoly is
•-•
Micah, in full Southern Accent Mode: Lord, give me patience
Justin: I think you mean "give me strength"
Micah: If the Lord gave me strength, you'd be dead
•-•
Evelyn: My dad told me that I could be anything I want
Evelyn: So I became a problem
•-•
Sam: Micah did you do something stupid?
Micah, covered in blood: I think we both know the answer to that
•-•
Natalie: Gabriel, as my brother, would you take a bullet for me?
Gabriel: Of course. I would do anything for you.
Gabriel: Except eat a cucumber. Those things are nasty
•-•
Evelyn: Greetings, parental figure
Asher: Good morning, problem child
•-•
Rose: I made you a friendship bracelet!
Micah: I'm not really a jewelry person...
Rose: You don't have to wear it if you don't wa--
Micah: No. I'm wearing it forever. Back off!
•-•
Text from Gabriel: Sorry, I'm gonna be a half-hour late
Evelyn: *forgot they were even meeting, still in bed* You always do this

I’ve been thinking on Cassandra in DP x DC crossovers and I still know so little about her, so I’ve been hitting a metaphorical wall. I’m going to read more material about her as well as analysis.
Meanwhile, I’m posting my ideas / headcanons about Cassandra’s assessment of various DP characters and their body language:
- Maddie Fenton. She moves with the ease of a martial artist; dangerous in a fight. She enters a ‘hunt mode’ when hunting ghosts and appears like a predator; has experience with projectile weapons. Quick reflexes. Attentive around her children unless ghosts are involved, then her attention instantly shifts away. It happens worryingly often. She seized Cassandra up, likely noticing her own expertise in martial arts.
- Jazz Fenton. Depending on the point in time, Cassandra would notice that she seems cautious whenever around her parents or even that her attitude shifts about them. She’d also notice that Jazz seems to worry more about Danny after some point. Both instances occur more frequently when her little brother is in the same room as his parents. She is lying about something and often when it comes to her Danny. Cassandra assumes it might be to protect him from abuse or neglect with how much the parents prioritize their work.
Jazz’s movements mirror Maddie’s to some degree (some degree of martial arts training, showing in an understated grace), but also Jack’s.
- Jack Fenton, often distracted; also enters a ‘hunt mode’ about ghosts but different - while Maddie’s is focused and cold, he’s excited about his prey; not aware of his own strength. He has experience with projectile weapons but bad aim. Like Maddie, only attentive around his children as long as ghosts aren’t involved.
- Danny Fenton. He shows the same grace of martial arts training, with the same traits from Maddie, maybe even smoother. Their mother likely trained him and Jazz. Also shows training with guns.
Skittish, closed off, cautious. He keeps scanning his surroundings as if he expects attacks which is worrying similar to how Cassandra’s family operates. Annoyed and calm around school bullies. Tense around his parents, but even more so when the topic involves ghosts. He lies frequently when it comes to his skipping of classes or where he was. Stronger and more agile than he makes himself appear.
There’s something else about him that Cassandra can’t figure out. Something that confuses her when she doesn’t even know what it is.
All in all, Cassandra would get a worrying picture alone from that plus watching their interactions and actions.
(She’s picked up on Danny’s ghostliness in the way he moves as if gravity doesn’t hold him and he just likes it better on the ground which is why his movement appears so smooth to her. That she doesn’t notice any mishaps on his part is because Danny has gotten much better control over his powers and because of his ghostliness her brain isn’t able to process the small ones he still has. Like a glamor? So they look like normal accidents to her.)

An Honest Talk
(Got to the episode where Valerie gets the ghost hunting stuff. I just want her to be happy and not Filled With Vengeful Rage so, here's this.)
Jazz sees the whole thing.
Really, Valerie isn't even good at hiding it. As soon as that Ghost Hunter shows up at that school game, Jazz figures it out. Not just because her voice is the same, but because of the insults she shouts while hanging in that basketball hoop. Sure, Jazz is in a higher grade, but she's heard that A-Lister group plenty of times in the hallways and after school.
They're real jerks. But not murderous jerks.
So she decides to do something about it. No-one attacks her baby brother. ... Well, except other ghosts. But Jazz can't always help with those.
This? No problem.
"Hey, Valerie."
Valerie jolts, yelping and almost dropping what is clearly some kind of ghost-detecting device. "Who are- ugh, aren't you Fenton's sister? What do you want?"
"To talk to you," Jazz says in her most empathetic voice. "I noticed you're having kind of a rough time."
"Why do you care?"
"Because my brother does." Cares about not being pummeled, at least. But Jazz is sure Danny hopes the best for his schoolmate, even with the attacks.
Valerie huffs. "Great, pity from the loser kids."
"Come on, it won't hurt to talk about it?"
"Talk about what? That some ghost kid and his dog ruined my life? That we're broke, and all my friends hate me for it? yeah, talking will fix everything."
Jazz sits down on a bench, and pats the seat next to her. Valerie looks away.
But then... she sighs. And sits. "I keep thinking about that five hundred dollar shirt I ruined. Maybe if e hadn't bought that, or I hadn't worn it to school, we'd be a little better off right now."
"It's not your fault."
Valerie grits her teeth. "Yeah. It's that ghost kid's."
"Ghost kid?"
"... You believe in ghosts, right? Because of your parents?"
Jazz nods. "Plus, that thing during the school game,, Kind of hard to deny."
"Heh. Yeah. ... That dog broke into the place my dad was working for. he was showing off what he did for their security, and none of it stopped the dog or the kid. And then they showed up again at the garage sale and wrecked our moving van, and the dog stole my lunch after all my friends rejected me!"
Valerie wipes her eyes, scowling. "It's not fair!"
Jazz hands her a tissue. "It's not, not at all."
"I wanna destroy that kid," Valerie growls. "Like he destroyed me."
"... Valerie... how old is he?"
"About my age, I think."
"And he's a ghost."
"Yeah. And?"
"So... how do you think a ghost kid comes to be?"
Valerie doesn't reply. But after a moment, her eyes widen a little. "Oh... no, no, but... but he's a kid. He can't be any older than me."
"Yeah," Jazz says softly. "So something horrible must have happened to him already."
Valerie looks at the device in her hands. "... But... he still ruined my life." She sounds a bit unsure now.
"Maybe he didn't mean to. I mean... imagine one day you wake up and everything is... different. Suddenly you've got no gravity, and-and no-one can see you sometimes and you're this weird thing-"
God, how scared was Danny when it happened? She's pretty sure by now that it was The Accident that did it, she can't think of anything else that explains it. What was it like for him, waking up as something different?
"It would be tough," Jazz finishes, looking at Valerie.
Valerie still won't meet her eyes, looking at the beeping device. "Then why is he following me around?"
"... Well... does he show up first, or the dog?"
Valerie thinks for a long moment. "... The dog. It's always the dog."
"So maybe he's trying to catch it."
"... I mean, I guess that could be it. But he's been fighting me!"
"And you've been fighting him."
"But-! ... Aw, geez..." Valerie deflates. "What do I do now, then? I can't... I can't keep attacking some kid who... we've barely lived, I can't just make it so that he's barely lived twice."
Jazz stands up and offers her hand. "How about we try talking to him?"
Valerie looks at her. "For real?" She's skeptical.
Jazz nods. "For real. Maybe we can clear some things up."
Valerie turns away again. And then, with a hefty sigh...
Takes Jazz's hand.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Cujo?" Danny calls out. "Cujo! We need to get you back to the Ghost Zone, buddy! Come on, where is he?"
Someone clears their throat behind him, and he yelps as he shoots up in the air.
He turns around, and sees possibly the worst thing he could see right now.
His sister, and his hunter.
"Hello, Ghost Boy!" Jazz calls out.
"Um... hi." Danny waves, still looking startled.
Jazz nudges Valerie, and Valerie huffs. "Hi," she says shortly. Jazz smile at her, though.
"I'm here to mediate a talk between you two," Jazz says, walking closer (and somewhat pulling Valerie along behind her). "I figured there might be more to this story than we all three think."
"Um, you're not- I mean, I'm a ghost, you're just... casual about this?"
Jazz nods. "My parents are well-versed with ghosts, this is nothing."
A straight-up lie. Jazz hadn't even believed in ghosts until she peeled Spectra. But maybe it's to save face for Valerie? Or maybe Jazz recognizes him as the ghost from that day.
"Anyway," Jazz says, "Valerie here has something to say."
Valerie, arms cross and back hunched angrily, glares at Danny. "Who are you, and why are you out to get me?"
Danny floats back down to the ground, standing on it now. "I'm, um... Phantom-"
Valerie gives him a disbelieving look.
"Uh, Ghost Names are uh, different! It's this whole thing. And, I'm not out to get you, I swear. It's all been terrible coincidences."
Valerie scoffs.
"Val, we're here to listen," Jazz reminds gently. "Let him explain his side of things, and then you can explain yours, and we'll come to a solution. Trust me, I read a book about this."
Danny doesn't doubt it. "I don't own that dog, I found him wandering around outside. I thought he was cute at first, and then he turned into the big dog that keeps haunting you."
"And why's he doing that?" she snips.
"I don't know yet." Danny rubs the back of his neck, embarrassed. "I'm trying to send him back to the Ghost Zone, but he keeps coming back out! I'm starting to think it's some cliche 'unfinished business' thing. But until I can figure it out I don't know how to get rid of him. All I can do is try to minimize the damage."
"Doing a great job." Valerie rolls her eyes. "Ruining my father's business, ruining our garage sale, ruining my lunch!"
"I swear, I was trying to help! He's really, really hard to get under control! He's like five times my size!"
"And you can't grow bigger and handle it that way?" Valerie retorts.
"No! I'm only a few months into this, I-"
He cuts himself off at the look on Valerie's face. "What?"
"A few months? ... So... so I could've known you?" Horrified, is the best word for her expression.
Danny shrinks, holding his bicep and hunching a little. "Um, nevermind. I just mean I'm not super powerful."
"No, no, we're going back. Did I know you? Is this a revenge thing?"
"What? No! I already told you, I'm trying to help prevent things from getting worse! And... no. I'm a loser kid, and you're popular."
"... Was," Valerie says quietly. "... All my friends ditched me when I lost my money."
"That's awful."
Valerie nods. "I don't know why I thought they liked me for more than money, looking back. But it still hurts. Being a lonely loser is the worst."
"Tell me about it," Danny mutters. "I mean, I have friends, but sometimes some stuff just makes you feel alone no matter what."
He thinks he sees Jazz tear up at that, but he's not sure. He's distracted by Valerie letting out a sob.
"I don't have anything left," she says, voice quavering. "I don't have the popularity, I don't have money, I don't have the grades..."
"... So you turned to revenge?" Jazz's voice is soft.
Valerie sobs again, and Jazz gives her some comforting slow pats on the back. She looks at Danny, nodding at Valerie.
Danny gets the hint. "You... you could, um, make something, more?"
Valerie gives a somewhat bitter teary chuckle. "What is that supposed to mean, huh? I'm already hunting ghosts. It's... something."
"... You could try to make new friends."
"Oh sure, that's easy. I'm a social pariah."
"So am I. But even just one or two friends helps a lot."
"You got a lot of ghost buddies?"
"... Humans, actually. An if I can make friends with some high school kids as a loser and a ghost, you can make friends too. You just might have to lower your social radar a bit."
Valerie rubs her arm. "... You're really not out to get me, are you?"
"No, I'm not. I want to protect people, not hurt them."
"... I'm sorry I shot those missiles at you."
"I'm sorry I couldn't keep the dog contained."
"... I'm sorry you're a ghost so young."
Danny snuffles a little. "... Thanks." Sometimes he is, too.
Valerie looks at her hand, and then holds it out to him. "Truce? I won't mess with you. I can't promise the same about that dog if it keeps showing up, but I won't mess with you."
Danny sighs. "So you're keeping the weapons."
"Oh, you know I am. Even if I'm not hunting you, now that I know about ghosts I want to be prepared."
"I guess I understand that." Danny shakes her hand. "Truce."
Jazz grins. "See? Just needed a real, meaningful talk!"
Valerie laughs a little, wiping her eyes again. "Yeah, I guess. But... now what? Who do I blame for this?"
"Probably the boss who decided that Ghosts Suddenly Existing was your father's fault," Danny says.
Valerie's eyes harden. "Yeah. Yeah, I can go with that."
"But," Danny and Jazz say at once. They look at each other, and Jazz let's Danny speak.
"But," Danny says again, "Maybe focus on making some more friends, first. One thing about us losers, is we don't ditch someone just for money reasons."
"... I'll give it a shot." Valerie smiles a little at Danny. "With better aim than the ones I took at you."
Danny chuckles a bit.
They both wave goodbye, Jazz and Valerie leaving Danny to continue his search.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hi."
Danny, Sam, and Tucker all look up. Valerie is standing nervously with her brown paper bag of lunch. Tucker brightens up, and Sam gives a little, slightly suspicious, wave.
Danny scoots over. "Wanna sit with us?"
Valerie looks over at the A-Lister table. They're all staring, smirking, whispering.
Mocking.
She looks back at the 'losers'.
They're looking at her with... openness.
"Yeah. Sure."
She sits down, and gets out her lunch. For a minute, she just listens to them talk while she unpacks the sandwich.
"Hey, is that peanut butter and honey?" Sam asks. Valerie nods.
Sam holds up a thick roast beef sandwich. "My parents are trying to get me to eat meat again, but I'm staying vegetarian. Want to trade?"
Valerie blinks. "Uh... sure?"
They swap sandwiches. Valerie looks at the sandwich, mentally trying to figure out the carbs and calories and fat content-
She looks around the table. No-one else is analyzing their food. Or, judging hers.
She takes a bite. It's pretty good.
This... is pretty good.
She smiles, and laughs a little at a joke Danny makes.
Yeah. This is pretty good.

While You Still Can
For Ectober Day 2: Scream
.
Warnings: Accidental self-injury, repeated injury, minor blood, muteness.
.
The first time Danny got laryngitis was the day after returning from the bad future. He’d been a bit of a baby about it, too, because not being able to communicate effectively while already feeling like garbage and being depressed wasn’t great. Jazz had been very understanding about it all.
He got it again the next time he used the Ghostly Wail, and resigned himself to the inconvenient side effect. The Wail was sort of a last resort power to begin with, since it drained so much of his energy and left him vulnerable. He hoped that with time and practice it would get better.
He hoped in vain.
The day after Tucker's resignation from the student body presidential race, Danny, Sam, and Tucker splayed, exhausted and still slightly sandy, in Sam's basement. They'd settled on watching a nature documentary at some point, although none of them were really paying attention to it.
Tucker sighed heavily and readjusted himself so that his legs hung over the arm of the loveseat he’d commandeered. “So, I’m tied with Danny for most frequently possessed,” said Tucker.
“Seems like it,” said Sam, lazily twitching her foot to kick Tucker’s. “Unless mind control doesn’t count as being possessed.”
“Ugh. I hate this. Do you think we should try to practice throwing off overshadowing again? I hate that, too.”
“Dunno. Danny, do you think that would do any good?”
Danny, because he had the attention span of a caffeinated squirrel, tried to answer verbally. This was painful and did not work well.
The sound from the documentary briefly dissolved into something that wasn’t quite static. All three teens sat up, straight and wary of any ghostly intruders.
Danny’s ghost sense did not go off. Danny, who hadn’t been looking forward to how his ghost sense would feel against his abused throat, sighed in relief.
“Wait,” said Sam, “the static- Danny, was that you?”
Danny shrugged. If it was, it wasn’t on purpose.
“Maybe… Can you try to talk again?”
That would hurt. He made a face.
“I know,” said Sam. “But if it was you, don’t you want to know?”
“Could be the start of a new ghost power,” said Tucker, lying back down.
Danny rolled his eyes, but once again tried to speak. Once again, the sound of the documentary cut out, replaced by something else. Something that wasn’t words, but also wasn’t just random noise.
“Weird,” said Tucker. “So. New power, I guess. Do you think you’ll be able to do that without your voice gone?”
Danny shrugged. It wasn’t like these things came with a guidebook. Also, this didn’t seem particularly useful for anything except getting his friends’ attention when he was temporarily mute.
“I wonder if it works on recordings,” mused Tucker. “It’d be useful for making sure no one catches you transforming on film.”
Ah. That was true.
“We’d have to test it,” said Sam.
Danny dropped back onto the floor. He didn’t want to do anything today.
“Later?” suggested Sam. “Maybe once your voice is back?”
Danny gave her a thumbs up.
.
Danny’s voice came back the next day, as usual. Trying to mess with audio electronics had no effect, so they sort of forgot about it and ignored it. It wasn’t important.
They didn’t think it was important.
Danny kept using his Ghostly Wail as a trump card. His voice always took a vacation afterwards, but never for too long. Never long enough for Danny to worry. His parents were making noises about bringing Danny to the doctor, maybe a throat specialist. But they were ridiculously easy to distract.
Everything was normal. Everything was fine.
Until Technus came by with a massive upgrade, courtesy of Vlad, Danny suspected, and Danny had to use his wail twice in a row.
He managed to cap the thermos before he doubled over, coughing. Blood speckled the asphalt below him. Which was disturbing for a number of reasons, not least of which being that he was in ghost form, and shouldn’t be bleeding red at all.
He heard a gasp, and twisted in a way that probably would have broken a normal, human spine.
Sam and Tucker were looking at him with a great deal of consternation and worry.
“Dude…” said Tucker, softly.
Danny winced, and his rings flickered.
“Don’t do that now,” said Sam, scoldingly. “Shoot. We need to get you to Frostbite or something. That’s- Oh my gosh. Frick.”
Danny grimaced. They’d seen him more beaten up, but this amount of blood from the mouth probably was a more disturbing image than bruises and random cuts.
His rings flickered again.
Tucker swallowed hard. “We’ve gotta… Um. Somewhere to transform. Yeah.”
“Alley,” said Sam, pushing.
Danny let go of his transformation as soon as he was out of sight, and leaned against Tucker. He was so incredibly tired. He coughed, lightly, and more blood dribbled from his mouth.
“Oh, gross,” complained Tucker. “Are you, ah, jeeze, you’re not okay.”
No joke.
“Frostbite,” said Sam. “Danny, you up to- What am I saying, of course you’re not. Tucker, you’re going to have to drive.”
“Uh,” started Tucker.
“Since I’m going to be dealing with first aid stuff.”
“Oh. Okay, yeah, I can drive.”
.
Danny wheezed as Tucker made another wrong turn and almost plowed them into a half-melted wall. Sure, the Speeder could phase through just about anything here, but that ‘just about’ was a significant concern.
Plus, going too far that way would put a lot of extra time on their journey. Like. A lot. Some kind of fourth spacial dimension nonsense.
“Sorry!” said Tucker. “Did your parents update the controls or something?”
They had, but Danny couldn’t exactly explain how at the moment. He shrugged.
Eventually, they did arrive at the Far Frozen. The yetis took one look at Danny’s pale face and the blood dripping down his chin and rushed him away to their hospital. Frostbite arrived, and the next hour or so was a whirlwind of tests and scans, particularly of his neck and throat.
They… looked worried. Which made Danny worried.
They gave him good painkillers, though, and lying on the ice bed did wonders for his tension.
Frostbite came back. “Great One,” said Frostbite. He settled himself, fur shifting. “Your Wail is an amazing power. From our scans of your core, it looks like you are also going to develop other vocal powers.” He paused. The silence stretched long and deep. Normally, Danny would have tried to fill it. “But,” said Frostbite, finally, “those powers are not compatible with your human vocal cords. Using them damages your human vocal cords.”
Danny nodded.
“Your ghost half will replace them,” said Frostbite, “but they… they would not be at all the same.”
Danny tilted his head.
“You are probably confused, because you speak in your ghost form, but the structures are very different. You… You would be unlikely to be able to communicate in a way humans would understand, without significant practice. Not while you were in your human form.”
That… didn’t make sense. He communicated with people now. Frostbite and the other ghosts communicated just fine.
“It’s just the type of ghost you are,” said Frostbite. “You are… powerful, Great One, bound to a powerful and painful path. I am sorry for that.”
There was something so pained and apologetic in Frostbite’s tone that Danny started shaking his head. He hardly knew what he was saying, and he still couldn’t help but reject it.
“I am sorry, Great One,” said Frostbite, “but if you keep using your Ghostly Wail, your human half will become mute.”
Frostbite knew, then, just like Danny knew. Danny wouldn’t be able to stop using his wail. Not while people were in danger. He couldn’t abandon people he could save.
Tears collected in the corners of his eyes.
It made him want to scream.
(While he still could.)

sleep like the dead
“And now, I, Technus, shall finally have my electronic vengeance on you, ghost child and conquer this puny human world!” Technus shrieked, exiting the portal in a suitably dramatic fashion. The various weapons around the lab shook and trembled from his power and static from his core crackled, raring for a fight with his favorite enemy. Only the Phantom didn’t appear.
“Hmm, maybe I wasn’t loud enough,” Technus mused before starting up again. “Pathetic Phantom! You can only hope your miniscule half human strength will be enough to take on my squiggling mess of the tangled wires of terror!” He threw back his head and cackled loudly, waiting for his nemesis to show and the battle to begin. His laughter petered out after a bit and the lab became silent once more.
“Well, now he’s just being rude,” Technus fumed, floating up through the ceiling. “Don’t ignore my threats, child. I know you’re here, I can feel your cold core.” He stopped once he reached the ghost boy’s human lair, hovering a few feet from the bed where his rival was sprawled out, sound asleep.
“Come ghost boy, it’s time for fisticuffs! I have some new moves and some great catchphrases I’m ready to try out on you!” The technology ghost exclaimed in excitement, miming some punches. Phantom didn’t answer, just kept laying there barely moving save for his soft, shallow breaths. Technus watched as his breath fogged with each exhale, his core’s ghost sense but it still didn’t awaken him. “Child? Have you expired?”
He leaned forward and gently poked the boy’s cheek. It was squishy but firm unlike a ghost’s exterior and he could feel the dense bone underneath. Phantom didn’t so much as twitch. Technus drew back his hand, unsure of what to do. He’d surprised the child while he was in bed before but he always woke up and they fell into the usual routine. But now he’d changed the script and if there was something ghosts didn’t like, it was change. He flew back down to the portal and sped into the Ghost Zone at top speed, searching for someone who would be able to help him understand.
“Wow, baby pop whooped your butt that fast? Either he’s getting better or you’re getting more pathetic, my bet is the latter,” Ember teased as she strummed to herself from a floating rock near her lair.
“The ghost child won’t wake up and fight,” Technus said in a rush. “I went to the human world but no one answered my challenge. I went to his human lair and he was just lying on his bed thing and he wouldn’t move, even when I touched him.”
“That’s not like him, he’s usually more hopped up and ready to fight than a groupie on coke,” Ember frowned, setting aside her guitar. “Well come on, sparky, lets go check the kid out.”
They developed something of an entourage making their way back to the human portal. A few of the locals had heard that the infamous half ghost child was behaving differently and well, curiosity didn’t stop when the cat was killed. Skulker chuckled menacingly under his breath, Youngblood bounced around the adults. Johnny and Kitty had been going to the real world anyway and decided to tag along.
“Were his folks or Jazz home?" Johnny asked, riding his cycle slow enough to keep pace with the group.
“Who?” Technus questioned, “er no, the annoying children always with him were not around for once.”
“Annoying yes but they don’t live- uh occupy the same lair as the brat,” Johnny explained. As a younger ghost who’d held onto his humanity more than some, he had a better grasp of human culture. “His parents, the crazy ghost hunters in the blue and orange jumpsuits. Or his sister, Jazz. She has red hair and is kind of a know it all. They’re his family, they live with him.”
“Oh those weirdos,” Youngblood said wrinkling his nose. “Always loud and shouting about ripping apart ghosts. They’re not even good hunters.”
“Obviously, they haven’t noticed they got a ghost living with ‘em,” Ember added with an eyeroll.
“It’s a very stressful situation, Danny was worried about what they’d do if they found out,” Kitty frowned before sticking her tongue out at Johnny. “Danny’s a good guy, at least he talked to me about things that mattered.”
“Good target practice, you mean,” Skulker declared as they entered through the portal. Instinctively they all looked up to where the ghost boy’s core was humming but sensed no movement. “Alright, I will admit that is weird. Let’s see what the whelp’s up to.”
It was a bit cramped, the five of them crammed into the small room especially when they were keeping their distance from the room’s only living occupant. He had not moved since Technus had last been in here. At their entrance, his breath fogged again and he shivered for a second before settling back down.
“Well, he’s alive at least,” Johnny shrugged before leaning in close to examine him. “Kid looks wiped though.” He picked up the boy’s bony wrist which had been dangling off the bed, his fingers brushing the floor and held it up before dropping it. His knuckles rapped against the ground but he didn’t stir.
“Johnny, leave him alone, he’s trying to sleep,” Kitty hissed, yanking her boyfriend back by his ear.
“Come on, I’m not doing anything bad,” Johnny defended. “But, come on, how often are we gonna get a chance like this?”
“Hmm is human sleep that interesting that the ghost child would ignore all of us?” Technus asked, floating over and laying himself down on the bed. He laid there on the bed next to the boy for a few moments. “I do not believe I’m doing this correctly.”
“Nah you gotta close your eyes and go off to dreamland,” Youngblood said, grabbing a sock off the floor and then some papers from the desk and began stacking them on the half ghost’s head. The boy still didn’t react in the slightest.
“Is dreamland close? Another pocket dimension like the Zone?” Technus, ever the scientist, asked curiously.
“No, you idiot,” Ember sighed before tentatively reaching out and laying a hand on Phantom’s chest. “Yow, man that’s weird.”
“What?” Skulker asked, having been mostly content to watch until now. Youngblood had now piled several more items on the ghost boy’s head but he slept on, unawares.
“It’s just,” she scrunched up her face as she looked for the words, “I know what ghost cores feel like and I’ve been around enough humans to know the signs of life but he’s got both at once. His core flares and fades opposite his heart beat. It shouldn’t work but it does, somehow.”
“He is a most curious specimen, I rarely see Plasmius in his human skin so it’s hard to compare,” Skulker commented. “Of course Plasmius I can understand. He acts like a ghost, thinks like one. But the child, he’s certainly a ghost but he’s also decidingly... human.”
“That’s why we should be leaving him alone,” Kitty frowned, plucking Youngblood out of the air and moving him away from the sleeping teen. “If Danny isn’t waking up with all of us causing a racket then clearly he’s exhausted. We bother him enough, let him rest and fight him some other time.”
“But I wanted to fight now,” Technus whined, rolling over on the bed and resting one arm over the ghost boy’s body. “The Phantom surely wants to hear my latest monologue on how I’m the supreme ruler of everything electronic and beeping.”
“I know I don’t,” Youngblood shrugged.
“Me neither,” Johnny scoffed.
“Or me,” Ember muttered, putting her hands on her hips.
“Just let him rest,” Kitty said shooing the others back and gently brushing some of the kid’s hair out of his face revealing sallow features and dark marks under his eyes. “It’s hard enough being human much less a ghost on top of that; between fighting us and trying to have a normal life I bet he hardly gets any sleep. The least we can do is give him a break before he breaks.”
“I suppose it’s not sporting to kill a sleeping prey,” Skulker pouted. “And it’ll make his defeat more meaningful if he’s well rested and not uh,” he gestured to the Phantom’s general state of disarray.
“Better appreciate it,” Ember sulked for a second, kicking away some pajama pants from the floor. “His stupid human life. I’d give anything to sleep again, just for a minute.”
The ghosts sat in quiet contemplation for a moment, the dead looking enviously and curiously on the silent, sleeping boy, on a world they could only watch but not engage in. The moment was shattered by the front door slamming open.
“DANNO WE’RE HOME AND WE BROUGHT CHINESE!” Resonated through the house. Startled awake, the ghost child leapt out of the bed and hovered about a foot above it for a moment before sinking back down.
“Darn it Dad, I was napping,” Danny grumbled before he opened his eyes and saw several of his ghostly enemies standing awkwardly in his room. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted Technus lounging on his bed. “What the-”
“Oh good, you’re awake!” Technus tittered happily, leaning into his personal space. “Ready to hear my spiel?” The temperature in the room dropped rapidly as his core ramped up and spilled over into his eyes which were no doubt glowing a fierce green.
“Get out of my room!” He shouted, reaching over to grab his emergency under the bed thermos but a sock falling from his hair into his face distracted him.
“Hey, just stopping by but we were just on our way out, sleep well, Danny sweetie!” Kitty said dragging the whole group through the floor. His core thrummed in agitation until he felt them cross the portal into the Ghost Zone. He sat there for a moment, shaking and panting from the adrenaline rush before he decided he really didn’t want to know. He flopped back onto the bed and reached over on his nightstand for the bottle Jazz had given him the other day.
“The heck is in this stupid sleep aid?”

Jazz is tired.
She hasn't been able to get a decent amount of sleep in what feels like forever, but in reality, it’s only been about 3 days.
She knows logically that the exhaustion is what's making her cranky, but even so, she can't stop herself from wincing at the sound of scraping coming from her dad's utensils while eating breakfast.
I should stop by the pharmacy and see if those melatonin gummies could help me, Jazz thought, and just as that thought appeared in her mind, the cause of her involuntary insomnia came into the kitchen.
Danny honestly didn't look much better than Jazz did. Despite her short fuse, Jazz couldn't help but worry about what was keeping Danny up at night.
See, for the last 3 nights Danny has been sneaking into his sister's room at night and would ask to stay with her.
This isn't an unusual request, they've done this often as kids whenever Danny got nightmares. Admittedly it's been a few years since the last time they've had an impromptu sleepover, but nothing indicated to her that this wasn't normal.
For the first night at least.
The second night that Danny asked to stay in her room had her worried. Danny's nightmares didn't usually happen this way; one night in Jazz's room was enough to comfort Danny and it would be back to normal. Jazz wanted to ask about his nightmares, but the distracted look on his face kept her from speaking up. Things quickly got more strange after that.
Jazz briefly woke up in the middle of the night, and she remembers Danny staring at her. His eyes weren't the usual blue as a human, nor the comforting glowing green she's grown accustomed to in recent months.
Danny's eyes appeared to be red. And glowing.
Jazz jolted awake after seeing that, and when she faced Danny again, he looked at her with concern in his voice. "Jazz, what's wrong?" he had asked. The boy's eyes were blue.
"I thought I saw something," she quietly replied, not wishing to wake her parents up. "It's alright now, go to sleep."
Danny softly smiles at her and turns his back towards her. By some miracle, she manages to fall back asleep.
Last night however was the worst yet. The day was normal as any day could be as the daughter of two eccentric scientists and her superhero brother.
When night came around, she had already prepared an extra pillow and blanket, expecting her brother's arrival. And sure enough, he soon did.
When Jazz heard the knock on her door, she squinted at the clock on her nightstand and read that the time was 3:07 in the morning. "Come in," she mumbled, tired and unwilling to go open the door for Danny. After all, she had already left her door unlocked.
When Danny got situated and found himself comfortable, Jazz decided to confront this and asked him why he suddenly started coming to her room.
See, the thing about Jazz and Danny is that they're very trusting of each other for the most part, (except for the time he literally got electrocuted in their basement, but those were pressing circumstances, to say the least, and she knows to tread lightly about this issue if Danny doesn't want her prying.
"Have you heard of the witching hour?" He had asked instead of answering her question.
"Yeah, it's supposed to be the most haunted time of the night, it's when supernatural beings are most powerful. At least, that's what mom and dad claim"
"Well," Danny replied, "there's some truth to that folklore. My senses are heightened around this time of night. It results in me feeling really wired and energetic during that time period. When I'm transformed I've noticed that I'm more in control of my powers, and-" Danny suddenly cuts himself off and starts staring at the floor. His shoulders are stiff, and his jaw tightens.
"And? What else is there?" Jazz's interest has been piqued, so she adjusts to sit up. Maybe this witching hour would explain his eyes from last night.
"I… don't really know how to describe it. I-it's like, my senses are heightened so I can see farther away, I can fly faster… I can hear things better." That final part was barely audible since Danny's voice was pitched so low but Jazz caught it.
"What kind of things do you hear?" Her voice was hushed.
Danny takes a shaky deep breath before answering his sister, "I can hear them Jazz, the ghosts lurking on the other side of the portal, waiting for an opportunity to come to this world. They're just...waiting."
"I've also heard voices. They echo in my head, they used to be unintelligible, but the more time I spend in the ghost zone, and the more comfortable I get with my powers, the more I'm picking up the language of the dead."
Jazz feels a weight set in her chest, realizing that this occurrence isn't new to Danny and that it only took until now to realize something was wrong. She had assumed that Danny's exhaustion came from typical teenager sleeping habits and ghost attacks coming during the night.
"So what do the voices in your head tell you?" Jazz's mind is running at full throttle immediately trying to figure out if these ghostly voices can be blocked off when Danny's voice pulls her back from her thoughts.
"See, that's the thing, they're saying something about waiting for a king."
Jazz stiffened up, remembering the previous ghost king who Danny defeated. Is he coming back? What are the ghosts plotting?
Thankfully, Danny doesn't notice Jazz's demeanor and instead continues to explain that the voices have gotten more loud and annoying during the witching hour. He says that having something else to focus on helps him make it through the night.
Jazz makes a mental note to start teaching her brother some grounding techniques and spends the rest of the time letting Danny talk through some lighthearted stories with his friends.
Soon after 4am, Danny begins to yawn, and falls asleep with Jazz quickly doing the same.
She forgot to ask about his eyes.
~
Despite the interrupted sleep, the rest of the day is pretty uneventful. Jazz spent her day writing an essay for her English class, and then stopped by the library to drop off some books she had checked out.
Danny did his usual routine and snuck out of the house after curfew presumably to fight a ghost. Meanwhile, Jazz prepared herself for the fourth night of Sibling Sleepover Time; she had set a silent alarm to wake her up 5 minutes before the witching hour began. Only this time, Danny didn't come.
She heard her brother sneak back into his bed not too long ago, but she had to assume that fighting ghosts had taken enough of his energy to allow him to pass out in his own room.
Jazz was content with that reasoning, but as soon as her eyes began to slip shut, she heard a voice.
It floated directly into her ears, and she couldn't understand a word of what it was saying. It sounded like static from an old TV and left her insides feeling hollow and cold.
The voice echoed and reverberated, never increasing in volume but rather changing in intensity.
At times it felt smooth and calming. Other instances made her muscles stiffen up, the static becoming sharper which left her head throbbing and her jaw tense.
Is this what Danny had been going through this whole time? He never mentioned the voices hurting him.
Jazz couldn't resist the pain anymore, she needed a distraction before she woke up the house screaming about static voices and ghosts.
She stumbled across the hallway to Danny's room and knocked on the door.
"Come in," her brother said. Jazz hesitated.
Why did I hear his voice through my head?
"Jazz, come in," the voice echoed through her head again. It sounded like Danny, but deeper, something more confident and authoritative than she was used to hearing on her baby brother.
There wasn't much static anymore once Danny started talking, although now her mouth started tasting like iron, and her nose felt runny.
Jazz turned the door handle and went inside. Danny’s eyes were red.

You're post since you're already sitting on a couple of asks for Bring me Home, so I hope you don't mind a third request for it.
I absolutely do not mind! Enjoy. ^.^

Danny hummed as he took stock. Touching the injuries had obviously come with its own pain, but the area was now under a numbing coolness that helped beat back some of the pain. “Better,” he said. “Thanks.”
“Great!” said Tim. “Do you want anything else? Let’s try to get you a few spoonfuls of ectoplasm and yogurt. You need your calories if you’re going to heal at all.”
Danny frowned, but acquiesced. “Fine. But I want another piece of ice when we’re done.”
“You’ve got it,” agreed Tim readily.
“Well, looks like it’s back to driving for me,” said Kon. He stood and stretched before heading back to the front of the vehicle and out of Danny’s sight.
This time, with the salve numbing him and the nightmares still haunting him if he closed his eyes for more than a blink, he ate much more. He finished an entire vial of ectoplasm and half the yogurt before he couldn’t stand the thought of eating any more.
“Talk to me?” he asked before taking the second piece of ice.
“Of course. What do you want me to talk about?” asked Tim.
“Anything,” admitted Danny. “Just need something to distract me.”
Tim hummed in thought. “Well, I know I’ve talked about Gotham before, but it’ll be different now that you’re coming with me to live there rather than visit. You’ll be moving in with me to my civilian apartment. It’s a penthouse downtown near the Drake Industries offices. My dad may have nearly ruined the company, but Bruce has been helping me build it back up. I’m not officially in charge, but as my dad was the owner, I’ve got a controlling interest.
“There’s lots of places to eat nearby. My favorite is this little hole-in-the-wall Hispanic place run by a Puerto Rican family. You have to try their empanadas. Simply to die for. I’ll get us take out from there when you’re finally up to eating something more solid than smoothies or yogurt. There’s also a killer pizza place down within walking distance…”
Danny let the words drift over him, and this time, when he closed his eyes, he didn’t see images of his parents or the lab.

Homemade
Day 2 Dannymay: Home
Clockwork made cookies, they were a special blend he’d invented through countless trial and error to get just right. For a ghost, they'd have enough concentrated ectoplasm to provide energy and enough positive emotion to make them enjoyable, and for a human child, he focused on getting the right flavors and physical ingredients to make them actually edible.
He set the plate down in front of Danny. The young half-ghost had been working really hard at his homework lately and Clockwork wanted to do something small to reward him for it.
“Are- did you make cookies?” Danny asked, looking up at him in confusion.
Clockwork smiled and gently ruffled his hair. “Will you tell me how they taste?”
Most ghosts lost the ability to taste early on, along with their sense of smell. Clockwork never had either though, only had glimpses into different futures with different recipes and Danny’s own reactions to them.
“Please tell me this isn’t the first time you’ve made cookies…” Danny made a face, uncertain.
Clockwork rolled his eyes and grabbed the plate again, “you don’t have to eat them-“
“I’ll eat them!” Danny grabbed the plate from Clockwork’s hands, a splash of green decorating his cheeks and forming a stark contrast against his starlit freckles.
Braced as if for impact, Danny quickly shoved one of the still warm cookies into his mouth and began to chew. Slowly his features softened into enjoyment and Clockwork got to watch as he grabbed another and then another until the entire plate was clean.
He was glowing slightly, the oven-baked ectoplasm doing wonders for his energy levels. Existing so long on ambient ectoplasm alone wouldn’t have been nearly enough for a young ghost like Danny, so it was nice to see him properly fed for once.
“Clockwork, these are amazing! How did you make them?” Danny asked, his eyes shining slightly.
“That’s a secret,” Clockwork lied. He didn’t want to admit it took him over a thousand tries to actually make something edible to a human pallet, and he had enough of a mysterious air about him that he’d get away with it.
Danny didn’t seem to mind though, he just grabbed the plate and flew over to the kitchen so he could wash it. “Okay, what do I have to bribe you with to get those again?”
Clockwork’s core hummed in satisfaction, it was almost a primal instinct to care for one’s child and it was always nice to be appreciated. “Finished homework would be a nice start.”
Danny scoffed, a small smile on his face. “I think you need to lower your standards. I mean, I’m passing history now right?” The single dish was cleaned, dried, and put away in less than a moment.
“Thank you Daniel,” Clockwork said. Danny didn’t get nearly enough appreciation from those around him, it never hurt to give him a little when he could.
A light green blush built on Danny’s cheeks and he looked away in an attempt to hide his reaction. “Yeah well, you make cookies like that again and I’ll clean your whole clock tower.”
Clockwork smirked, lifting an eyebrow. “The infinite spirals of my clock tower and the unending trails of time that exist ever moving inside of it would certainly appreciate a touch up.”
Danny balked, “uh… maybe I can do a room at a time?”
“You don’t have to clean anything for cookies Daniel. I’d rather you eat than not.”
Relieved, Danny rubbed the back of his neck and chuckled. “Thanks Clockwork.” He sighed and dropped his hand, looking over at the window to the realms outside. “Ugh, I don’t wanna go to school tomorrow.”
There wasn’t much to say, so Clockwork didn’t. He didn’t particularly care about Danny’s academics or whether or not he succeeded in school, but he knew intimately how much it mattered to Danny. It was tied to his two obsessions after all.
He had to go to school so he could both make his family happy and be there to protect the other students, he had to succeed if he ever wanted to fulfill his dreams of working at NASA, the human space program. At the thought of absolute failure he would stress, shut down, and grow apart from those close to him. It would put strain on his obsessions and could lead to internal core damage. It was better for now, that Clockwork simply gave him time and the chance to try and keep up.
“You’re always welcome to visit if you need more time,” he offered.
“I know. I’ve uh, still got homework to finish…”
“By all means.” Clockwork followed Danny out of the kitchen and watched as he sat back down to finish his homework, content with the healthy glow the cookies gave Danny.
He turned back to his own work and watched for anything that didn’t fit or was causing trouble, but his mind was on the next recipe he wanted to try.
The next recipe ended up being a casserole.
Cliche to be sure, but decidedly more filling and sufficient than just a plate of cookies, and this time when Clockwork set it down in front of his young ward he was met with more enthusiasm than suspicion. Despite the bright pink color and the more… mobile parts of the dish. It was difficult to make something that met all the necessary requirements to properly nourish a halfa      and     have it look appealing so Clockwork had hardly tried.
 Danny dug in.
“This is the most amazing casserole I’ve ever had in my life and that includes any and all ecto-contaminated food I’ve ever snuck out of the fridge without my parents noticing how did you do that?” Danny asked, shoveling another forkful into his mouth.
Clockwork purred at the praise, and was glad to see Danny’s glow get even brighter. It was so pale before, barely even there in a way it never should have been with Danny’s obsession and power. “I suppose the difference would be that I was doing it intentionally.”
Danny nodded. “Makes sense.” He took a moment to pause from devouring his food to look up over at Clockwork sitting across the table from him. “Are you going to eat anything?”
How thoughtful. He should have probably prepared for that but, well. “I’m afraid trying to eat something with that much physical matter from the human world would go poorly for me. If you’re uncomfortable I can make some tea?”
“Oh,” Danny looked at his half finished meal, realizing something and unable to react properly to it. “Yeah, tea sounds nice, can I have some too?”
“Of course,” Clockwork agreed easily. He would be using a delicate mixture of herbs and spices from different parts of the infinite realms that Sojourn liked to gift him whenever he bothered to visit. None of them should have any adverse effects on the boy, and if he chose the right mixture, it might actually help him to calm down slightly.
By the time the tea was finished and cooled enough to drink, Danny had finished his meal and cleaned up so that the two could sit and enjoy their tea together.
Danny spent a moment too long staring into his cup, the swirling neon blue of the forgoent leaves—a small blue plant native to some of the darker forest realms, similar to the mortal realm’s forget-me-nots. Clockwork didn’t know what he was thinking, couldn’t see a timeline where he actually spoke his thoughts out loud. He sighed and took a drink of his own cup, the tea’s soothing blend serving to take off the slight edge of his anxiety. It was difficult caring for a child, even with his power.
“Thanks for the tea Clockwork,” Danny said, “and uh, the casserole too.”
His voice was quiet, but sincere and Clockwork accepted his thanks with a small nod of his head. The rest of the evening went on like that, mostly silent but not unpleasant in each other's company. When Danny left to go back to the mortal realm he paused at the clock tower’s door and quickly turned back to Clockwork, pulling him into a quick, tight hug that had him almost freezing time instinctually before Danny pulled away and quickly flew off.
Clockwork stayed there, floating in the entryway to his lair and felt his core practically screaming at him in delight.
He needed a way to distract himself, maybe he could start working on another recipe?
Pie was unnecessarily difficult, Clockwork decided, despite its place as the most popular fairy-tale dish ever mentioned. He’d made no less than three thousand six hundred and four different variations of the damned recipe and not a single one had even stayed together, much less been even remotely edible.
He sighed. At this rate, even freezing time wouldn’t help him accomplish this before Danny arrived. He was admittedly impatient for an immortal entity with all of time under his control, and he wanted to actually be able to spend time with his ward rather than an eternity trying, and failing, to bake something.
Which is exactly how Danny had caught him taking a failed experiment out of the oven, having arrived while Clockwork was distracted.
“Is that a pie?” he asked, excitedly reaching for it.
Clockwork quickly held it out of the young halfa’s reach, unwilling to allow him near his utter failure.
Danny blinked, his face drooping into an exaggerated pout, “I can’t have some?” Clockwork felt his core ache a little. Maybe he should have stopped time until he got it right?
“It’s not fit for consumption at the moment,” he said, carefully floating it out of reach and towards the end of the counter. He didn’t have anything resembling a human trash can, it was uncomfortable to keep waste in one’s lair afterall, so he’d have to leave it on the counter for now. He could dispose of it properly later, maybe as fertilizer for his garden.
“Oh don’t be like that,” Danny said, floating around Clockwork and completely ignoring his very valid warning. “I’m sure it’s fine, everything else you’ve made has been delicious.”
Well yes, everything else he’d made had been very much intended to be delicious. This one was a failure. However, Clockwork wasn’t going to admit to the amount of effort that had gone into each and every piece of food he’d made for his young ward. It would be uncomfortable at best for Danny and horridly embarrassing for Clockwork.
“I’ll make another one for next time, please-” Clockwork didn’t even finish his sentence before Danny was grabbing a piece of the crust and shoving it into his mouth. “Daniel!”
Danny smiled. “Yeah okay not your best work, but it’s edible for sure.” He grabbed another piece and ate that as well and Clockwork didn’t really know what to do. On one hand, he was right: it was certainly edible, there would be no adverse effects caused by Danny eating the food, and it would be just as nourishing as the other meals Clockwork provided. But on the other hand, it could not have tasted pleasant. All of the futures where he tried serving this to Danny as normal were met with disappointment at best.
So why was he content to eat it like this?
“I knew you couldn’t be perfect,” Danny snickered. He grabbed a fork and a plate from their places in the kitchen and then floated over to the table, pie-adjacent pastry in hand. “Are you gonna make tea again?”
“Yes,” Clockwork answered, glaring at the pie. The horrid pie that Danny was eating because not every single meal needed to be perfect and Clockwork, as always, had been over-complicating everything.
The atmosphere at the table was soft and comfortable. It was certainly something Clockwork was unused to, enjoying company for company’s sake. And to think they wouldn’t be here as they were, had Clockwork succeeded fully with his task. It brings up a question, actually thousands of different, related, questions, about failure and success and the weight of either.
Danny smiled at him from over the half eaten pie. Clockwork smiled back.
An alarm went off and Danny shoved one last bite into his mouth before flying off towards the main room of the clocktower. “Shoot, I forgot I promised Jazz to let her help with my english homework.”
There was a flurry of papers while Danny tried to gather all of his things. Pencils shoved precariously into his bag and folders of half finished homework assignments quickly followed. The half finished pie on the kitchen table was completely ignored, as it should have been to start with.
“You seem to be in a rush,” Clockwork said, watching amusedly. Either Danny had forgotten Clockwork’s particular powerset in his haste, or he hadn’t thought to ask for a medallion. Either way Clockwork found it too amusing to offer his aide unless Danny thought to ask.
“Yeah, yeah,” Danny tried to say over the strap of the backpack he held in his mouth in lieu of his busy hands. “I’ll be back home s-”
Danny blushed and stuttered out something awkward and intended to drag attention away from the slip of his tongue. But Clockwork just smiled, watching the boy finally gather his things and quickly make his exit promising to come back tomorrow for dinner.
Wasn’t there a human saying about home and food?

It is The Day I post my Invisobang fic! it was a wild ride to write everything and not post. This is actually the second fic I did, as the first fell into my pit of ‘i hate it now’ and will sit in limbo for the rest of eternity. I teamed up with Spirit ( @ghostportals ), who has done some accompanying art! That, and Red @redead-red saved my bacon by doing some betaing last moment, so tell em they’re great too. Hope you’re all enjoying the flood of finished fics and art this week! Only the first chapter is here, the rest is posted on my Ao3 and complete. hope you enjoy!
One careless fall changed Danny's life forever. He was kind of hoping one fall like that was enough for any lifetime. Clearly fate disagreed.
It's fine though! He's got this. He's fine. He can totally explain why he ran off with his own body to mom and dad.
The stairs had always been a little too steep, a titch too narrow, but he was used to them. Jazz worried too much- the whole Fenton family knew how to take them two steps at a time. He wasn’t going to admit she might have a point just because he’d slipped one time. He wished there was a railing to catch himself with- it would have spared him some of the pain of his head knocking on the stair.
It didn’t hurt that much. Plenty of ghosts hit harder, and far more frequently.
“Took a bit of a spill eh, Danno?”
Great, dad saw him slip like he was three again. He wanted to speak, wave his behemoth of a father off before he got tangled up in some long lecture about whatever they were working on down here. Just had to sit up.
He was a little stunned or something. All those late nights made his limbs rebel when he wanted them to hurry up. Come on, before he tries to help and accidentally shaves his hair off with some anti-ghost stepladder or something.
His arms stubbornly rejected his internal horror story. His attempt to say ‘I’m fine’ was more a gurgle than anything. Way to go, Fenton. Do everything to get dad to worry! Really using those genius genes. Jazz probably stole his anyway, or they got fried in the accident. Come on! A bit of self berating should have him sitting bolt upright by now. Maybe his arm twitched. He felt something move, anyway. More like a muscle spasm.
“Danny? You okay?” The large man came closer, his usual jog slowed.
Of course he’s fine. He could see dad, sort of. He totally moved his eyes to see him better, even. Stupid ghost powers were just acting up.  It’s okay,  just give me a second to stand up. You’re worrying over nothing.
Jack had already made it over, crouching to get a better look at his fallen son. Like he was trying to look smaller or something with how carefully he was moving. Where was all that slow, ginger movement when he was driving? Or trying to tell them about some new invention that might burn off your eyebrows?
I’m fine, dad. He couldn’t get the words to come out, but he was just fine. He really didn’t like the strange look on his father’s face. After all, ‘Jack Fenton doesn’t know the meaning of the word fear’ or whatever random thing he felt like shouting when chasing after entities from another dimension. Come on dad, stop looking like that. It was creeping him out. Moving should be easy, a snap, but part of him didn’t feel like doing it. Apparently an important part? He could visualize exactly what to do, but he wasn’t sitting up. He swore he could feel his muscles clenching but not finishing the movement. Maybe they were testing something down here that just made all the ectoplasm hiding inside him take a nap. His ectoplasm was so fired after this.
“Can you look at me kiddo?”
Coaxing him. This was weird. Why wasn’t he just hauling him off the floor and laughing about how clumsy he was at his age too? Looking at him was easy. Pretty hard to miss him, with all the bright orange.
“Maddie? Can you come over here?” His question was strangely stilted, not much of a bellow.
Dad was going to get the wrong idea because his body didn’t want to cooperate. Great. Fantastic. He could feel the warmth in his chest, the sign his heart was still going. He was just fine, just a bit inconvenienced at the moment. Why couldn’t dad just be  dad  and do something dumb like pick him up with one hand while sounding way too excited about some new tool that he built?
“What’s wrong?” His mom said, her footsteps doing the same thing dad’s had. Speed that suddenly cut down to almost nothing. “Danny, did you hit your head?”
“I think he might have, he’s not responding. I didn’t want to try to move him-“
“You did great Jack, it’s okay.”
Gross. He hoped they didn’t get caught up in one of their lovey dovey circles while he was stuck trying to get his stupid legs to remember how to do things. He was responding! He groaned, and he definitely twitched a bit. Weren’t they paying attention? He tried again, a bit more forcefully and ignoring the pang in his neck. More of a jolt from someone with too much static cling than actual pain, really.
“Should I call 911? He isn’t moving! He just stayed there- didn’t even act all tough for his old man!”
Jack was panicking.  Dad was panicking. Over nothing! Why wasn’t mom distracting him with fudge or some random study? No one was being normal today. Danny shuddered, he knew he did, it went with the pulse under his skin.
“That’d be great sweetie, just stay close.”
“In case you need my big strong arms to help carry him, right?”
“Just in case.” She wasn’t wearing the hood of her jumpsuit, at least.
It didn’t make it more comfortable when she crouched down, biting her lip and staring at him. Like this was concerning. It was the opposite of that, he was a klutz, a gangly teenager, it was normal for him to be a bit banged up. This shouldn’t concern her, or anyone. The only reason it bugged him was the not being able to move right now nonsense.
“You aware in there sweetie?” she said, rather loudly and clapping near his ear.
Yes I am, but I can’t tell you. Maybe he could focus on taking a breath and it would kick off whatever turned off his mind to body connection. Had he done anything strange before coming down here? Not really. He could absolutely feel her digging her nails into his earlobe though, ow! More motivation to move, but something wasn’t getting across. Maybe he was getting a bit freaked out about it too. Only because of his parents being weird. He was fine, he had to be fine. It was nothing, less than nothing.
“I’m just going to make sure he’s still breathing Jack, do you have anyone on the line yet?”
A loud response, but not to her question. “No it’s not a ghost emergency! It’s a human emergency!”
Of course he was breathing. He couldn’t look that bad from such a small fall. Just breathe out the words ‘Hey mom, personal space’ and they’d laugh and it’d be nothing. All this fussing was making his skin crawl but of course he had to have ‘special ghost freezing up’. Was it his ice powers? Like he could get his powers being snarky like that, appreciated it in a twisted sort of way- but it would be better around people who wouldn’t assume the worst? Like anyone else. Even Dash.
“Tell the operator he isn’t breathing.” Maddie’s voice was cold and controlled, even as she went back to biting her lip right after.
He was totally breathing. He could feel the air that ran in and out of his lungs, the swell and fall that other ghosts knew as a weak point, a way to slow him down. He knew what being doubled over, air shoved right out of him from a harsh blow felt like, how it felt like the portal again. Throat twitching, body heaving and trying to regain what it lost. The darkness that bit at the edges of his vision as every nerve went screaming  You’re Dying . Hated that feeling, shook the ghosts who did that hard once they were in a thermos. This was nothing like that.
“He isn’t breathing, you need to hurry! My wife knows CPR- just tell them to hurry this is my  son , please”
Yelling to hide the quaver in his voice. Like a kicked puppy yelping. It sounded so wrong. This was going to be so awkward after. They’d just...pretend this never happened, right? That’d be for the best. No, he was going to get grounded forever for some ‘dumb prank’, since he was fine and worried them so much. Which didn’t seem too bad if it stopped all of...this.
He moved a little. A toe, he was pretty sure. More notably was his mother, carefully getting him off the uneven stair to be flat on his back. Trying to keep his head from moving, and she couldn’t see he was looking at her? When she was this close? Too busy trying to be calm. Who could be busy enough to think he wasn’t breathing or tracking with his eyes? Another twitch, another inward curse that he couldn’t get back in control.
“Just hold on, help is coming.” She said, but the half ghost couldn’t tell who she meant, exactly. Him, dad or herself? Either way the quiet remark did not prepare him for the sheer force slammed into his crest. Like she wanted to slam right through him! Was it so much to ask that his parents stop nearly killing him by trying to help? Just try moving again and everything will be fine.
He couldn’t keep the mental mantra up when he heard- when he felt his ribs crack from the pointless force. She was killing him, he didn’t need help breathing, he had to get it through to them no matter how much his body buzzed and resisted his need to move. He had to focus and push through it, ignoring how cold and wrong it felt, how it seemed like he was squirming free of something that didn’t want him to go.
Her bone crushing assault stopped once he got his arm up, not even needing to touch her before she froze. The fear was wrong, out of place so he redoubled his efforts, twisting and struggling against himself, the sticky mass that wasn’t letting him act or speak to calm them down.
The phone hit the floor. He heard it. So why didn’t dad say anything? Danny twisted, wanting to make sure he was okay. Still stuck. At least he had a hand free and most of an arm, the edges of his fingers tracing the tiles of the floor. He could brace himself that way, pushing down hard to try and jar his shoulder loose. He could hear air moving, like a harsh breath out. Good- breathing was good. Even when it sounded so harsh and low.
“Jack- are you seeing what I’m seeing?” Maddie moved back, giving him the space he wanted ever since she’d cracked his ribs. They still stung under his skin, hissing at him to keep his parents away before he managed to get even more injuries over something so silly.
“I’m not sure what we’re seeing.” The phone remained on the floor.
That didn’t seem right. He’d sat up, mostly. Half sat up, propped up with an arm. Still mostly stuck and uncomfortable, the snapping and crackling sensation still clinging to his free shoulder. Really, he felt worse than how he started. at least there wasn’t pain in ‘hah my body is playing freeze tag without me’ land. The pulling sensation made his head ache and vision swim to the point he wasn’t actually sure if he was still looking at the ceiling or not. He couldn’t go back to just being frozen though, that’d suck. So just convince the rest of himself to get up. No problem!
Were lies in his head always this unconvincing? It felt like yanking himself free of a too sticky slime, strands clinging and tugging back until they finally snapped, parts still stuck but free of the main mass. At least ectoplasm had the decency not to stretch when you got drenched in it most of the time.  Come on, focus and keep it together.  He let out a wheeze as the last stubborn strands snapped, ignoring how loud it sounded to properly reorient himself.
Sitting up, properly, good! Parents staring with weird, half horrified expressions: bad. Very, very bad.
“I’m okay, I just fell.” Danny spoke, he could speak properly again. So why? “Sorry for scaring you guys?” He tried again, trying to ignore the first thought across his mind.
They kept staring. Maddie seemed to be recovering, shoulders starting to relax, but she seemed to be reaching for her belt.
He didn’t sound right. No, that wasn’t quite right, he just sounded wrong for Danny  Fenton. Who he should be right now, he hadn’t been able to talk, let alone go ghost. This probably looked really, really bad. How had he switched, anyway?
Mom was reaching for a gun, wasn’t she? Crud. Now he regretted talking at all, how was he going to explain why Danny Phantom was treating two ghost hunters like his parents? Or how he managed to look like their kid. Maybe he could change back and convince them they were seeing things?
Yeah no, that was way too dumb.
“Wait.” Jack rested a hand on his wife’s shoulder, causing her to stop pulling the weapon. He wasn’t looking at the ghost at all, just her. Maddie remained stiff, not able to ignore the glowing kid on her floor.
Okay...dad was usually the gung ho one. Maybe he could get away with this? Danny tried to get a better grip on the situation. Felt a new pain, sharp and cold in his throat. Deep green scars clashed against his white gloves and ran all across his jumpsuit,  glow intensifying as the panic choked him into silence. Fresh and angry like back- back before he managed to stumble out of the portal when he died when the accident happened.
With his human arms just as scared below them, still against the tile. The damage looked old, half scabbed over with only a dull glow deep in the death marks wounds. His arms attached to the rest of his body- that he was half out of.
Why? How was his body still and silent while he was sitting and looking at it. He’s cold. His body is cold. It isn’t  breathing  there isn’t some other facet of his personality sitting behind the dull blue eyes. This isn’t how it works! If he splits, it’s just temporary, he can fix it but his other half- corpse is wrong.
The pulling and clinging at his legs doesn’t feel like slime anymore. Rotting flesh that wants to drag him back, smother him in a cloying warmth that will only remind him why it burned, how it hurt. He had to move, he couldn’t stay half like this, it would get better once it wasn’t like this.
It didn’t want to let go as he tried to pull away, ectoplasm getting snagged on every nerve and muscle fiber, each pause a reminder of the shock and pain of his end that day.
He knew he screamed when he pulled free and slammed into the wall, furious green scars still marring his jumpsuit where there should be none.
What would Mom and Dad think?
No no no no no. He spotted movement from them and acted. He couldn’t let his mom break his body more, or look at it too closely. Dad couldn’t see what happened! This was fine, he could fix this!
He grabbed his corpse and fled through the wall.

Warped Mirror
Decided to write something based vaguely on the “Spork AU” idea. Instead of Episode 1 Danny meeting Episode 50+ Danny, though, I was curious about a Danny who never became Phantom meeting one who had. This first part is just establishing Human!Danny’s world.
I’ll post it to AO3 when I have the rest of it finished.
---
Three kids stood before a giant machine in the shape of a door. It should have been humming along and glowing green, with a great hole to another world in the middle. Instead, it was cold and silent.
“They spent years working on it,” Danny explained, “and then nothing. Mom and Dad have been moping in their room all day.”
Tucker looked around at the portal and the hodgepodge of computer parts attached to it. “It’s probably a loose wire somewhere. I’m sure they’ll figure it out.”
“In the meantime, this would make for an awesome picture,” Sam said with a smile. She held up her polaroid camera.
“Oh no, you’re not getting me anywhere near that,” Tucker immediately walked away from the portal.
“Come on! When they get this thing working we’ll never be allowed near it. Besides, it’s not like it’s going to do anything right now.”
“Then why don’t you get over there and let one of us take the picture?” Tucker asked.
“Because neither of you know anything about lighting or framing a shot. Please?” When she saw that Tucker was not going to budge, she looked over at Danny with wide, pleading eyes.
He looked anxiously at the portal. So far none of his parents’ inventions had really worked, but that didn’t mean that they weren’t dangerous. Still, Sam was right. It was pretty cool, and getting a picture with the thing could be a good way to keep a memory.
“Yeah, okay, let me put on a jumpsuit in case there’s a live wire or something.”
Ten minutes later he was suited up in the white-and-black safety jumpsuit his parents had made for him. It wasn’t really a hazardous materials outfit - there was no full hood or respirator, or even goggles. It was made of something that was supposed to repel ectoplasm and certain chemicals that his parents used and was insulated against minor shocks, so it would have to do.
“Oh, no no. I’m not taking your picture while you’re wearing that,” Sam announced. Danny was about to argue, but she reached over and pulled the sticker of his dad’s face off of the suit. “Now you’re good.”
Danny laughed. “Good thinking, Sam. Wouldn’t want to be immortalized in your photos with that on me.” He walked up to the portal. It was a massive piece of machinery, nearly six feet in diameter and deep enough to fit a car. He paused at the entrance. It was hard to imagine it as anything other than a creepy machine in the basement. If it had worked, it would have opened into a whole other world.
Tucker, meanwhile, was watching while anxiously tapping a foot. He had expected Danny to give in to Sam’s pleas. He was so predictable and utterly clueless. One of these days they would both realize that they were both desperately crushing on each other and they’d-
There was something plugged into the wall. Tucker wasn’t sure what it was, but he had a bad feeling about it.
“Hold up!” he shouted. Tucker went over and unplugged the cord from the wall outlet, and checked around for more outlets just in case. When he didn’t find anything else, he called back, “Okay, I think it’s alright now.”
“Good thinking, Tuck,” Danny’s voice echoed in the portal. “Hey, Sam, is this good?”
Sam set up her shot. “Looks great! Just hold there a second.” She counted down before the flash went off. The camera whirred and produced a polaroid. “Lemme take a couple more,” she said before swiftly doing so from slightly different angles. “That should be good!”
Danny started to walk out of the portal. Something caught his foot. He tripped and fell backwards, flailing his arms wildly in hopes that he would catch something. His right hand hit the side of the portal. It stabilized him for a second, but then the wall clicked. Danny stared down at his hand, a chill lancing up his spine. He hadn’t hit the wall. His hand was resting on a button marked “ON.”
“Oh my god,” he blurted.
“Danny? Are you okay?” Sam called. He could hear them both scrambling toward the portal.
“I’m good! I just tripped!” Danny got out of the portal as fast as he could. “My parents put the on/off buttons on the inside! If Tucker hadn’t unplugged it…” All three teens stared at the portal. Danny could have died, just for tripping over a stupid wire.
Finally Tucker gulped and broke the silence. “Want to see if your parents can get it to work now?”
Danny shook himself out of it. “Yeah! I’ll go ask if they forgot about that.”
They all but ran out of the lab.
---
The Fenton RV sped down the street, ghost alarms blaring. In the back, Danny got his weapons together as quickly as he could with all the jostling and swerving. They’d let Dad drive; time was of the essence.
“A level six!” Jack crowed from the driver’s seat. “Maybe even a seven! How long’s it been since we saw one like that?”
“About four months,” Danny grumbled. He still vividly remembered when the town had been drawn into the Ghost Zone and besieged with an army of skeleton constructs. He was not looking forward to a repeat of that hell. The Fenton Blaster in his hands whined as he attached the power source.
“We’ll have to be careful, Jack,” Mom cautioned as she always did. “We don’t have the Ecto-Skeleton this time.”
“Are you sure we shouldn’t call in the Guys in White?” Danny asked. They might not be the best ghost hunters, but they did have a lot more firepower.
“Don’t be ridiculous, Danny! I’m sure we can take care of this before they even notice something’s happening. Besides, your mom and I are still dealing with the paperwork from the last time they showed up.”
Danny shuddered. He was extremely glad that he didn’t have to deal with that aspect of ghost hunting.
His dad pulled up to the mall with a loud honk of the horn and squealing tires. Danny and his mom ran out, blasters held at the ready. Dad backed them up with one of the Fenton Bazookas.
The mall was already evacuated. Some people milled around outside, anxiously talking amongst themselves. In the year and a half since the ghosts had started attacking the town, people had gotten frustratingly complacent about them. The invasion a few months back had shown most people just how dangerous they could be, but a stubborn few always were more concerned with getting good pictures than their own safety.
“Make way!” Mom shouted. “We’re here to take care of the ghost!” The crowd at least did part for them. A few people shouted at them. Some of it was words of support. A few tried to describe what they had seen - it was green, it was wearing all white, it was terrifying. Only a few made jokes or jeered at the Fentons as they passed. That was annoying, but it was a hell of a lot better than it had been a year ago.
The deserted mall was an eerie sight. Everyone had left in a hurry, leaving lights on and store music still echoing through empty halls. The Fentons’ footsteps seemed far too loud. The weirdest part was that everything seemed intact. When the technology ghost raided the mall he usually left trails of rubble and discarded packaging everywhere. The box ghost would leave piles of everything that he dumped out of his beloved boxes. Various other ghosts had attacked the mall in the past, and they almost always left signs of their passing. Why was this one different?
“Come out, ghost!” Dad shouted, his voice easily carrying through the empty mall. “Let’s make this quick!”
“Curious.” The voice was quiet, but had the same unnatural echo of all ghosts. Danny held up his blaster, but he couldn’t tell where the voice had come from. Beside him, his mom turned on her miniature Fenton Finder. It beeped alarmingly quickly.
“Two o’clock!” Mom shouted as she fired. Danny was only a moment slower, trying to fire a little ahead. The blasts didn’t connect with anything.
“I mean no harm,” the ghost said. Its voice was way too close for comfort. Danny turned to his right and shot where he thought it was, but he still missed.
“What do you want?” Danny asked. He didn’t really care. No matter what their obsessions were, ghosts only ever wanted to spread chaos and pain. Still, sometimes he could distract them by talking back.
The ghost appeared in front of them. It was tall, with dark, green-tinged skin and a lighter beard. Its eyes glowed a soft yellow. A white robe and hood covered most of its body, rippling in a nonexistent breeze.
A green beam from the Fenton Bazooka blasted towards the ghost. Its torso split apart to allow the beam to go through it. Danny grimaced. It was so gross when they did that. He followed his dad’s lead and started shooting the ghost. The ghost blocked all of his and Mom’s shots with a series of small green shields.
“This is entirely unnecessary,” the ghost huffed. It had the audacity to look bored.
“Then why not just go back to the Ghost Zone and leave us alone?” Danny shouted, annoyed. He ran off to the side, flanking the ghost. It finally started dodging the ectoblasts. If anything, though, the ghost just looked amused.
“Oh, I shall. First, though…” The ghost flung its hand out towards Danny. He winced, anticipating the burn of ectoblasts. He took a step back and his foot sank. With a shout, he fell into the glowing green portal that had opened right behind him.
