my favorite part about this panel is that hawks controls his feathers telekinetically, so he did the wrist flick for funsies.

Wig styling is Hard and I give up dhsjjshs
Tfw it looks better from the sides than it does from the front
Me 馃 Dabi
Ruining Hawks' modeling career with our handiwork
Hdhdjsj but anyway! This was my second attempt at styling this wig and I'm much happier now. You can still tell I'm a newbie at it but at least now his hair looks windswept and messy rather than a series of styled cowlicks lmao. You can vaguely glimpse at my first attempt on my instagram if you're curious but I don't have pics anymore
I will say, tho, I now understand why there's cosplayers who pay their bills with wig commissions. This stuff is hard and takes up So Much Time

quick bullet point of 394 thoughts again:
-at face value, the chapter holds up! it's pulls together ochako's changing thoughts throughout the 2nd half of the series and brings them to a conclusion as she's faced with someone else's pain who isn't the ~victim of a villain~ but an actual villain herself.
-himiko is in turn affirmed by someone who is "normal," who has never been abnormal and never been in her shoes the way the league has, who actually adjusts her (ochako's) perspective and admits her perspective was wrong in order to accept himiko.
-i do find this to be a much better turn than the todofam or (jfc) the mutant storyline. yes, todofam is forced to confront the skeletons in their closet and "own" their mistakes (not gonna get into whether or not that's correct given how it's mostly endeavor's fault <3) but i think there's a notable lack of acceptance of the way dabi is now. the focus was on the mistakes of the past and how they failed touya, not about what dabi might want to hear and do now. dabi was fought all the way to the end whereas ochako actually did reach out.
-and this might be bcs of where himiko and dabi's problems diverge (himiko's problem is one that is inherent to her, an instinctually-ingrained drive that doesn't necessarily entail harming people, whereas dabi's is explicitly taking out a bunch of uninvolved people to stick it to a shitty father) but positioning dabi as an issue to be solved by the family, rather than as somebody deeply wronged by multiple people who has a right to his hatred and rage (disclaimer: ~but not to hurt other people~) was weak and unsatisfactory. especially when contrasted with the fact that he has been more harshly judged, scolded, and physically beaten down in comparison to an actual abuser.
-the mutant storyline is just blatant libshit that horikoshi couldn't even hide under the guise of being about interpersonal relationships lmfao.
-in short, himiko's story actually gets a nod about how people were wrong about her and how that led to her mistreatment in a way that todofam and mutant storylines don't acknowledge. there is actually a focus on her feelings and how she was wronged, instead of being preoccupied with listing reason #872 why dabi/spinner are bad people.
-thematically though, does the chapter hold up? i'm still never going to be a fan of a story where the answer is assimilation into a society that scorned them. while this chapter is better than the mutant storyline, it still feels like it'll take a similar path: bnha teases "the attitudes of society has to change," but it also pins the responsibility of incremental/respectable change on marginalized people. idk ig this will either be addressed way into the future or not at all so we'll see.
-himiko's (and the league's) fate is still a huge elephant in the room. you can call her cute but can you be in her (and her friends') corners if the state wants to imprison or execute her?馃槼 how much is the acknowledgement of the league's importance to himiko worth if we're comfortable putting them all in jail? if i wasn't already a prison abolitionist bnha could make me one.
-being a qwoc myself i can say that a nice girl can call me beautiful all she wants but if she's in favor of putting me in jail her words would mean jack shit <3
-the other huge elephant in the room is twice. like genuinely no one acknowledged that he is dead, he was killed by a hero, and that fact is responsible for 99% of himiko's current rage馃槶 and then he just dissipates like he's a metaphor for himiko's hate-fueled rampage馃槶 come the fuck on stop treating this like it's a metaphor with no answer, we know there is a specific person who is responsible for this. hawks馃endeavor, characters the story can't accept are directly responsible for this bullshit.
-good chapter canceled, horikoshi drew a teenaged girl nude again.

I think the "light" in Touya is going to be whatever remains of the kind of person Touya was before, which is probably going to include more outpouring of hurt but without the villain murder energy, kinda like chapter 350 to show the parallel with Shigaraki still holding a lot of Tenko's feelings. With Toga.....it came off more to me as a parallel to what AFO was doing to Spinner in the same chapter, making Toga think it's too late to turn back, he followed her all that way because she still had Twice's blood that he gave her before, to see if she was getting too caught up in emotions to do what was needed. He literally asks that too, because he saw how emotions like that got Hawks tripped up. Not too long ago he was also complaining to AFO that it'd be bad for them if Aoyama switched sides, I think checking in with Toga to make sure she didn't as well is consistent with that. I suppose it does look comforting in a "that's not good for the heroes trying to save you way" if I were Toga, I'd think what Dabi did was sweet and encouraging too as a way to honor my friend. Dabi's brand of caring reads very much like "we've all been through shit, and that shit sucks, so let's burn it down together" kind. It lines up with how he speaks about everyone fighting in this war, the limit of superhuman society. Now on that scene, I struggle to celebrate it as a good one because we can all agree that using Twice as nothing but a mindless puppet army of clones to cause mass destruction isn't a very good image of him, and we're likely headed for a turn around where he's instead used to save the League/Shigaraki from AFO, and also because what reads as positive development for the villains (like how some people thought Toga not "loving" anymore was good) is actually backwards progress for them. Even though Dabi burned down her house, "the past never dies?" right, and how she compared Izuku and Ochako to her parents, I feel like we're going to get more on that, there is SOMETHING else to her story of love and Hori is being super dodgy on it, something isn't being said yet RE: Toga's past and how that matches what she wants and goes 馃 with what love means for her and Ochako. She has more deeper issues with them I think and her former "normal life." But for now, we're getting ~ this ~ unreasonable Toga seeing OchaDeku through trauma-affected lenses and saying "the only ones you heroes protect is yourselves" which happens to be exactly what Dabi said in his video. Great scenes for the villains, not so great for the rescue scene. Especially not so great knowing the fudgery that went into Dabi's broadcast, so. Having Toga believe so much of what Dabi says and follow him is, hm. Maybe after they both resolve their issues it'll be better?
I feel like your ask is about an entirely different question than what I was talking about. Just because a certain act of friendship or caring doesn't push the characters forward or is not the best thing for the other person from an objective perspective, the underlying emotion can still be true and honest.
Twice happily killing others in the name of the friendship he felt for the League is clearly not "good", but it does not make his feelings not be genuine or valid.
I simply can't understand why fandom is so ready to see positive in every villain, but wants to keep denying any "light" inside Touya.
Yeah, for the moment, his actions tend to be destructive - both for himself and others, but he has a capacity to feel, to love and even to empathize to some extent that we see tiny glimpses of which Horikoshi put in the story very deliberately.

馃挜The panels of the war arc that I can't wait to see animated.馃挜
*warning: spoiler alert*
Dabi going absolutely feral on hawks over twice's death.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His manic smile. 馃槇馃枻 (Idk why I love this panel so much!)
Tumblr media
Tomura being the king that he is. Beating the shit out of endeavor's ass (and mocking him) and delivering one of the most epic speeches of the manga.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And more of him. Someone tell him the date
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The heroes 馃 the villains roasting on bakugo's hero name.
Tumblr media
Mr. Compress literally sacrificing his ass for his kids and hot reveal. (Come back king).

And the aftermath,

There is so many moments of the war arc I love that I can put on, so it's basically pretty much everything. Start to finish. October cannot come sooner.

There is something so incredibly funny about Dabi acting cool, and purposely surprised when he goes "but you went and brought the top dog himself! wasn't much of a test" and Hawks going "well I thought you'd be thrilled!" and them being just so ARGH 馃槱 then we find out Dabi was in fact gleeful over the opportunity to kill Endeavor and heartbroken when he didn't die in Kyushu. Why did I have to go and stan two liars who never say things straight and hide behind bravado and sarcasm this is torture
Hawks and Dabi 馃 wearing masks to hide how they really feel much to the loving annoyance of their fans.

Dabi holding all your Gojo feels vs Hawks, who is vaguely Gojo like in canon (they also have the same voice actor) + the clusterfuck that is DabiHawks together in canon is some comedy 馃槀 I desperately need to know what you think of the Hero Public Safety Commission, we call them the HPSC for short and they don't show up too often in canon, it kinda goes over most anime-watcher's heads that They Exist, they're so background. Which is sooooo funny, because they're a bit like the JJK Higher-Ups.
under cut again
(Continue 2) Forgive my errors, it's been a hot minute since I read JJK. But the kids (or at least Yuuji and Nobara up to the last arc I read) are all innocently unaware of the Higher-Ups, while Gojo and the Teachers are Intimately Aware, with Gojo having the most dealings with them right? Yeah, that's BNHA. The HPSC is run by old folks, they're a bit of a shadow organization, even seen in the shadows in the spin-off. The difference begins in that there's parts to them, like the police force.
(Continue 3) License Exams, paperwork and organizing, PR events. So while some of their employees may be seen in the light, the higher ranking members and gross old Presidents are much darker. For the last idk, 150 years? it's been a long time, that they've been in power, they've been having a fun time executing people. I know, wild right? Even got the students involved in stuff they shouldn't be in without telling anyone the real reason behind it! Though the teachers suspected.
(Continue 4) Allowed for, demanded even, civilian casualties and ignoring crimes, luckily Hawks went "fuck that." He's their most valuable asset. Everyone would be fucked without him, he's too OP and does a lot of work. If the fics are writing game nights and death threats, they aren't showing how stressful and wild his infiltration really was if you think about the implications. Not someone the HPSC wants turning on them and getting killed by. (They know it's possible, it's happened before.)
(Continue 5) Gojo 馃 Hawks (people or fans thinking you're an arrogant, always happy loser, reality is you have morals and can be serious.) They both also like sweets! If you ever get into the show, I recommend reading the manga from chapter 184, that's the last two episodes of season 4. You can watch alongside the anime too of course for the battle animation and voice acting! It's just that's the "turning point" of the series, Hawks' debut and where the villains start to become more prominent.
(Continue 6) And unfortunately, where the anime decides to cut corners/panels/lines. Anime Aizawa is always flawless, but Dabi and Hawks are a pain in the ass, only official translation can capture the nuance. Since manga is still images, u can rly pause to think. They're two clever bastards hiding behind snark, personality masks, and careful words. Dabi got his reveal, but the true insanity of Hawks' life is still publicly hidden + spread across spin-offs, so I'd love to share if ur ok with it!
okay so re Dabi holding all of my Gojo feels it's kind of..... there is a Middle Man as to why Dabi got that in my head not Hawks and that Middle Man is me; specifically, my tragic backstory is exactly My Father Decided To Raise Me Super Harshly To Be Just Like Him Follow In His Footsteps And Surpass Him and, like, while he was even less interested in my younger siblings than me defs got discarded in early teenage years, so, like, Dabi would get all the me feels except my reaction to that was 'WELL I AM GOING TO BE THE BEST AND STRONGEST FOR ME AND ALSO I GUESS BC BECOMING A MATH PROFESSOR IS ABOUT TEACHING, TEACH ALL THE CHILDREN' so like.... hopping over from 'Gojo is the best' to BNHA and Dabi was the 'oh heyyyyy character with the other half of my tragic backstory instead of the 'I'm not prideful enough to say I'm The Best In The World At Math but I'm pretty damn good and I'm a teacher and good at martial arts and slightly fucked up in the head bc I was told all throughout my childhood that I was really talented' half of the backstory'
okay that's WILD re the HPSC, I think it's bc I've only read fics where everyone knows Hawks's backstory but I was convinced that the HPSC was almost a known big bad of the setting given that, like, 'all but bought as a child raised in hell to be crafted into the perfect hero' I'm p sure is in fact Hawks's backstory?
that's REALLY funny about Hawks being OP; his abilities are really versatile and up there but honestly seemed kind of standard in-setting and I was mildly assuming weren't that out there, but that's great and I love it, I live for OP characters
ALSO I AM SCREAMING OVER THE SAME VOICE ACTOR TIDBIT I DON'T KEEP TRACK OF THOSE THINGS THIS IS HITTING ME LIKE 'MARK HAMILL WAS OZAI'
and yup yup yup please Keep Telling Me Fun Things I'm having so much fun learning about BNHA

you're so SO right about hawks. peak attachment and abandonment issues.
Fuckboy!hawks was also funny to me like he鈥檚 so chronically bitchless bro 馃様馃様馃槶
I have a very particular and begrudging soft spot for him, but Keigo REAKS of insecure attachment styles. I just know he鈥檚 constantly torn between the dual urge to cling so hard he almost snaps you in half and keep you a safe two arms lengths away so he never has to give in to it.

Hawks 馃 Dabi @Twice and Natsuo: It's not that I don't like you, but if your death would save others/make Endeavor feel pain, then it is what it is. (Nonnie's note: Am I right or wrong?)
These situations aren't similar in the slightest though?
Hawks killed Twice as a last resort and did everything in his powers to avoid it until he no longer had any choice and feels regret for doing so even though it saved lives.
Dabi feels regret that he didn't get Natsuo killed. I'm not even sure you can say Dabi likes his family, he did at one point but at the moment? He seems to only care about himself.
