1980s-90s movies didn't broadly have better writing or acting than movies now, but two things they did do better were music and explosions.

WAIT, W H A T.
Tumblr media
Okay, so today I found out one of my FAVORITE movies is apparently one of the the biggest box office bombs in history, and was responsible for the sinking of the studio that made it.
It also KILLED the pirate movie almost entirely until Pirates of the Caribbean was made....
Oooooh, the company sold a bunch of interest in to Showgirls? And Last of the Dogmen? And STARGATE, to make this??? Oh nooooo WHY.
They stuck all their eggs in the Cutthroat Island basket and then it only made 10 million (1995 money) when it cost nearly a 100 million. *facepalm* Oh BOY.
Oh DEAR.
Look, I LOVE this movie! It's so much fun and the leads have some great quippy interactions, and Geena Davis is a total BAMF in it, but they really dun fucked up there. OW.

I can't explain why this man has such a hold on my heart but it's his, I can't even fight it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm his bitch now.
And I can live with that, I think

I love all these women and they really did help shape who I am today. My mother never really liked me and talking about her is some trauma bs I'm not going to talk about at the moment but these characters from movies, TV, and comics really connected with me and showed me that women can be weird, strong, loving, so smart, and absolutely bad ass.
