I bought continuous glucose monitors and am learning a lot. Like remind my server I drink diet soda. So my refill isn’t not-diet.

No other reason eating mostly mushrooms and green beans at the Chinese buffet should send my glucose to 180. 🙃

✨oops I did it again✨

After only having the Dexcom G7 for about three months, I took the plunge a little over a week ago to try the Eversense E3. As a T1D on pen injections, having an accurate and stable cgm is literally a lifesaver, and the g7 just wasn’t cutting it.

The doctor who implanted the sensor actually came to my house, everything was super sterile, and the most painful part was just getting the lidocaine injections to numb the area. After a week, I noticed that my calibrations are nearly identical to what the sensor was telling me, and even though the transmitter is more visible than other cgms, it vibrates on my arm instead of my phone screaming at the most inopportune times. The app, while looking dated, has so many more features and is more customizable than Dexcom’s, and even includes a notes area when I’m inputting my data.

I think the best part for me was the price - after insurance it costs the same as a 6mo supply of dexcoms, but now I don’t have to fight with the pharmacy and change everything out every 10 days - just one sensor and one rechargeable transmitter for the next 6 months. And on top of that, when I asked them where I buy the reusable silicone adhesive patches (couldn’t find them anywhere online) they said “Oh no we give you the entire supply you’ll need from the start!” - so for the first time in five years, I don’t have to pay extra money for supplies on top of all the other equipment I use. Oh, and the adhesive being reusable means I can take it off and shower like a normal person, which I can’t believe how much I missed!

All in all, I’m super happy I made this impulsive choice without consulting my endo, we’ll see what she says about it in a few weeks!

I’m trying the Freestyle Libre 3.  This is my first real try at a CGM.  So far I’m quite enjoying seeing real-time changes in my numbers (and I am very much a numbers person); I think it will be tremendously helpful in keeping things closer to 110.  

I do wonder though if it’s supposed to still hurt 6 hours after installation of the sensor—is that normal?  It doesn’t hurt tremendously, but I do notice it.  It’s a very localized burning sensation.

Hey capitalist dystopia fans here’s some new fodder for your next writing romp: Every time I call my insulin pump/pump supplies monopoly provider support line I am forced to sit through an unskippable, nearly 30 second advertisement for their newest product delivered by a robotic voice before I can so much as reach a menu that might allow me to connect to a representative, and on one occasion I had this ad play TWO TIMES, BEFORE BEING ABLE TO ACCESS TWO DIFFERENT MENUS, ONLY AFTER WHICH THE SAME VOICE INFORMED ME I HAD CALLED AFTER BUSINESS HOURS AND HUNG UP.

oh I want to kill

#first i went to the pharmacy to get my prescription for a continuous glucose monitor bc online ofc said they were open #and theyre not. bc of labor day. so i'm out $13 for the ride here and wasted part of my day off #but i needed tissue paper for a gift and i got some coffee to try and justify it and i brought my headphones so i could walk home #but my headphones are refusing to pair wirh my phone suddenly and i hate walking without music #so now i'm going to be out another $13 to get back like. lmfao hello. to say nothing of the fact that i'm going to have to do this again #so i can go pick it up a different day...
