do phil & techno exist in your au?

yes they do!! i keep forgetting to talk about them and i think it's because i haven't explored their characters enough in my head so im not as attached to them in this au, but i really want to develop them more. originally this was an sbi au but then my crimeboys solo brain (and my tntduo brain) took over. but sbi is very much a found family in this au too!!!

i think i mentioned that wilbur met techno first, probably through their job? originally i wanted phil to be a college prof who meets wilbur when hes a student, but then i scrapped wilbur going to college after school because he doesnt have the money or time (he does eventually go in his late twenties!! because he really wants to like he loves learning and it was always a dream of his), so phil is still a college prof in my heart but yeah.

he's techno's dad, and techno's mum isn't even in the picture, i guess she's dead lmao. yeah im making that canon she's dead because then wilbur and techno can make dead mum jokes. <- you just saw the live process of a fact being canonised.

anyway twinsduo bond at their retail job over talking about history and ancient greece and literature. techno is a classics major at his dad's college, and he took a job to get some money on the side. sometimes he sneaks wilbur his textbooks just because he's really passionate about the topic and he's really jealous of techno who gets to learn about it and have the college experience and live at home with his dad.

phil and wilbur have a Somewhat? fatherly? relationship? over time as crimeboys & emeraldduo grow closer phil definitely starts acting as a father/mentor figure for wilbur, but it's never like. official. wilbur doesn't call him Dad or anything. but they still love each other a lot it's very much found family but i suppose not in the traditional sense.

it takes a LONG time for wilbur to warm up to phil though, he has a tendency to distrust adults given. well. His Whole Life Experience i guess. but the second tommy meets techno he makes it his life's mission to annoy him as much as possible. This is a mark of love. it takes a long time for techno to realise that . tommy and phil also get along pretty quickly, phil's chill, easy-going vibe matches well with tommy's . General Presence.

they live a couple streets away from wilbur & tommy's flat (and later in the story when wilbur buys a house with q they buy the house right beside phil and techno's. they make a hole in the fence separating the houses so they can hang out in the other house more easily!). phil gets really worried about wilbur when he learns that he has a teen and a baby in his care alone, so he tries his best to help out where he can, but obviously wilbur's a stubborn asshole who refuses help, so phil has to be subtle about it. one day when he's visiting he finds the fridge is empty except for baby formula and a single sandwich for tommy's lunch, he doesn't leave wilbur a choice he makes him come over and feeds all of them. and wilbur keeps protesting but phil's like "it hurts them too if you refuse help" and so he shuts up.

phil teaches english, and he's kinda the cool old teacher who always swears and talks shit but who cares a lot about his students, and it's a similar relationship he has with crimeboys. he and techno also have a very funny (to me) relationship because often when they talk it doesn't feel like a father and son, more like two weird old friends who constantly jab at each other. it's very confusing if you don't know them.

techno also doesn't have a lot of friends (mostly by choice) and phil is like. The One Person he trusts the most. he begrudgingly starts allowing wilbur in that circle. eventually also tommy although that takes work (thats a lie techno loves tommy but he has to act like he hates him because yknow. The Principle).

to a lot of people's surprise, fundy and techno latch on to each other very quickly. it's surprising because fundy was a very very shy and anxious kid, and as a baby, he would cry if he was held by anyone who wasn't wilbur. and techno is this big burly socially awkward guy who doesn't know how to give hugs. but for some reason fundy immediately trusts him and lets him carry him and techno is very gentle with him. he doesn't talk to him like a baby, he has conversations with 6 month old fundy about ancient greece and politics and linguistics. he's the only person besides wilbur who fundy will fall asleep in the arms of. even when fundy's an older kid they still have that bond, at any social events they'll be in the corner so they don't have to talk to people.

techno also plays the violin, and when he learns this tommy begs him for months to play him something and he refuses. one day tommy comes home crying because he had an awful day and skimmed his knee and got a bad grade and his lunch got soaked in the rain, and techno leads him up to his room and silently begins to play a piece. tommy never shut up so quickly in his life LMAO

Scars on our skins, love on our hearts

Tommy doesn't think he even knows someone who doesn't have scars. Tubbo has a huge one on his face (he forgave Techno for that and it's not even a sensitive topic between them, but still, it is a scar.) Ranboo has the second weirdest; scars on his face that look like tear tracks, besides the ones on his hands. Wilbur has on his hands, stitches across his face, multiple scars on his chest. Philza has lots on his arms and hands, some seem to be from hard labour, others from battles so gruesome Tommy doesn't even want to ask.

Tommy himself has a nice collection; at least two on his face, one in each knee, a few on his chest and ribs… you get the drill they are all a little rough around the edges, even if it has been almost a year since they left the mainland, leaving the SMP domains for good.

Niki is the only one that comes by to visit them, after Wilbur apologised to her and she apologised to Tommy, things have been getting better, for everyone.

But the scars? They remain, like a brand on all their skins, telling them that no matter how much they run, the memories will still be there to haunt them. Tommy sometimes asks himself how Techno specifically deals with it. Because out of everyone The Blade's scars are the most unique.

Tommy never used a Totem before, but he supposes that they have that kind of effect. Because Techno's face is covered in scars, especially on his right side, but those scars are golden, and if Tommy looks closer, sometimes he thinks there is literal liquid gold, running like blood underneath Techno’s skin.

And on the quiet days, usually when it's cold and no one comes by to visit, as he, Wilbur, Phil and Techno sit by the fireplace, Tommy touches the scars sometimes; when he is grabbing strands of Techno’s pink hair to braid, the tips of his fingers graze the damaged skin, and it feels just like any other scar. Tommy wonders if, at the end of the day, Technoblade is more human than any of them would like to admit.

That day, Tommy falls asleep first, leaning on Techno’s shoulder as the man undoes the braid, just so the boy can re-make it tomorrow morning.

"He wonders about your scars." Wilbur says, with the insightful tone only an older brother could have.

For a moment, Technoblade stays silent, then he says, slowly; "He shouldn't… He should worry about his own, about the ones I gave him. I'm already thankful he allows me to help heal him."

Wilbur nods, sipping his hot chocolate. "We all fucked up eachother a lot."

Techno holds back an awkward snort; "It happens in the best families, isn't that what they said?" 

There is a ruffle of feathers by them, and Phil sits by Techno’s other side, throwing more blankets over them and around them. "Enough with sad shit! Sleep. Heal. Nest. Now."

"So true, Dadza. So true." They all laugh softly as Wilbur settles himself by Tommy’s side, carefully adjusting the boy so they all can lay down comfortably near the fireplace. 

The scars on Techno’s face remain, shining slightly under the flames, just like everyone else's scars remain. But this time, the warmth in their chests remind them that no matter how much their past tries to haunt them, they have each other now, and they can heal.

Heard you doing vents so here's mine.

SBI was a major *major* comfort for me. And even though it probably will always rot a little corner of my mind I'm definitely going to shift towards Emerald Duo and Bedrock Bros. If I even see Wilbur show up in any of them I'll make sure to read the tags to make sure it's not C! Wilbur and or CC! Wilbur and instead of AU Wilbur specifically Technoblade & Wilbur are twins AU because that is so out of the realm of possibilities that I can hopefully say that their writes are not pieces of shit themselves.

the fact c!tommy said he felt like a fucking pet in exile of all things always breaks my heart. like, he also described himself as a toy and a puppet but for some reason that one just always fucks me up the most. i guess bc it really shows that his insistence that c!dream hates him is a desperate survival mechanism? like, you don’t hate a pet. it’s obviously an incredibly fucked up demeaning and dehumanising way to treat a person, but it’s not a way you treat someone you hate. because, like, obviously c!dream doesn’t hate c!tommy. he's got very complicated thoughts on him, but he doesn’t hate him, even if he hates and resents parts of him.

and like, deep down, c!tommy knows that? he gets c!dream a whole lot more than he lets on, and he knows that c!dream on some level sees him as a friend, even if that’s in an incredibly unhealthy and abusive way. but he has to convince himself that c!dream hates him. because if c!dream doesn’t hate him, then what’s the point of even struggling against his conditioning and trying to heal? c!tommy is desperate for friendship and validation, and he feels abandoned by everyone else. if he lets himself ever believe that c!dream will ever provide him that stability and affection he desperately longs for, he'd fall back into his exile mindset so quickly, because he doesn’t care if he’s tortured or hurt- he openly acknowledges that exile was torturous to him even when he’s still struggling with seeing c!dream as a benevolent friend in bedrock bros- because he thinks he deserves it. he just doesn’t want to be alone.

I do think it's interesting how in canon with c!tommy there is a difference drawn between rude and cruel. He's pretty rude throughout most of the smp. He can be shitty to people, but it's usually not more than an irritant. He swears, shouts, talks over people, steals, etc. But he can also be very considerate. He can't always read people but he is often checking on people (mostly wil and tubbo) he fights for what he believes in and he's ride or die with a lot of his friends.

I think the only real time he becomes cruel is around exile and bedrock bros. He does hurt people very badly (Connor), he says things that cut horribly deep, he generally disregards other people's emotions. And I think it's cool that the way it's written it is not at all an extension of his general personality, his rudeness, which is beat down in exile, but moreso stemming out of the learned idea that no one cares about him and that his own life is worth very little. He stops really trying to connect to or understand people around him and it drastically affects how he interacts with the world.

I also like that he is actually rude. I feel like a lot of rude characters are just sort of loud or poor communicators, but Tommy is rude and gets to stay rude throughout the story

sorry ive been ignoring all my asks but YEAH THIS!!!! what i love love love about ctommy is that he's not cruel but not because he's some holy grail of goodness who is incapable of hurting a fly. he CAN be cruel. he has that potential, just like everyone else. but the MOMENT he realised that he was starting to act upon that potential and that he was hurting people? he backtracked. it's a CHOICE he CHOOSES to be kind im gonna throw up. and yeah like you said the fact that exile didn't turn him in a meek quiet person but instead made him more cruel and violent is sooooo. AND CAUSE THEN specifically BECAUSE he was lashing out and being cruel bc of his abuse, that made people refuse to see that he was a victim and he was abused, which in turn isolated him more and made him more prone to the extremes I JUST. froths at the mouth i like ctommy a normal amount

Actually, Techno isn’t here to defend his character, so.... fuck it.

I reblogged that one c!Bedrock Bros post earlier because the post itself is very good and true. But of course people are talking shit about c!Techno in the notes, as usual. I wasn’t gonna say anything because I’m just tired of Dream SMP discourse and Bedrock Bros discourse in particular, and thinking about Techno still feels really painful, but turns out I don’t feel good about leaving it alone either.

From now on talking about the characters, not the real people:

So number one: “Techno didn’t choose Tommy“ (paraphrased) excuse me, Techno did very much choose Tommy. He chose Tommy so hard that he was ready to fight the entire server to defend him. It’s Tommy who chose Tubbo, AKA the guy who ordered Techno executed.

And I get it from Tommy’s POV, I do. Despite all the painful history between them, that’s his best friend. Of course he wants to go back to Tubbo. And he didn’t actually see Techno getting crushed into a pancake by an anvil so it’s easy for him to ignore that part and give Tubbo the benefit of the doubt. And it’s easy for him not to consider how Techno would feel about that, because he kinda just thinks Techno is invulnerable anyway.

But I’m just saying, not choosing Tommy was not Techno’s issue. You’re just straight up making that one up.

Techno’s problem was that he was fixating on getting revenge and wasn’t paying attention to Tommy’s feelings about Tubbo and L’Manburg. Which is also fair enough because he had also just gone through a traumatic experience and it makes perfect sense that he would not feel like trying to be diplomatic or rational about the people who murdered him and imprisoned his friend. And from his POV it seemed like Tommy should have felt the same way since those same guys exiled Tommy himself.

The tragedy of the Bedrock Bros was that they didn’t understand each other. That’s it. If they had understood each others’s needs and wishes, maybe they could have figured something out. But instead they spent like three weeks talking past each other and ignoring everything they didn’t want to hear from each other. And they both did that. It wasn’t just one or the other, it was both of them. Stop trying to blame it all on one person when it was both.

In an ideal situation, Techno would have understood how important Tubbo and L’Manburg were to Tommy, and conversely Tommy would have understood how much of a threat they were to Techno. Also ideally both of them would have understood what Dream was doing. But none of that happened, and all for understandable in-character reasons.

Point number two: It was NOT about Techno’s politics or ideals! It was about the Butcher Army! I don’t get how people don’t seem to get this, that was a really popular stream! And SAD-ist made it into an even more popular animation!

Purely in terms of ideology, there would have been no conflict between L’Manburg continuing to exist and anarchism; you can have anarchist communities. L’Manburg didn’t need to have a government to continue existing, which as far as I can tell was what Tommy mostly cared about, since he wasn’t exactly super big on respecting the government himself. (And in fact Techno had been planning to leave L’Manburg alone, government and all, and start his own anarchist commune instead anyway.) But that’s entirely beside the point because that’s not what any of this was about. What it was about was that L’Manburg wanted Techno dead.

Could he have figured out a way to resolve the situation that didn’t require destroying L’Manburg entirely? Maybe. But he wasn’t in a mindset to care about that because he and his loved ones had been attacked.

And frankly, I’m sick and tired of people who think that certain characters are allowed to have emotional reactions and others aren’t.

What are your thoughts on C!Wilbur now? Anything changed?

I’m asking for reference because I’m honestly having a hard time figuring out what to think. I was never really attached to ccWilbur in the first place and what he did was absolutely shit so the decision to stop supporting him wasn’t hard. But dear lord the character he played was so well-crafted(again I don’t support him at all). I just really don’t know where to draw the line between the story and the writer, if that should influence my admiration for this really well-crafted character or if me still liking c!Wilbur counts as support to the creator.

Thoughts?

Heads up, probably gonna get a bit long and ramble-y here, I haven't really gotten to think or talk about this much yet.

I'm still not entirely sure where I stand with c!Wilbur at this point in time- because on the one hand, whenever I see a drawing of Wilbur with a white streak in his hair I go "Ah, c!Wilbur" and don't feel particularly strongly about it. While the character and the streamer are unequivocally linked and I'd rather avoid writing about c!Wilbur in the future, they're still not the same person in my mind.

Yeah, I mean, I liked cc!Wilbur well enough before all of this- but my primary reason for watching him was definitely Tommy (didn't really watch many of his streams if Tommy wasn't also there kekw). I consider myself rather fortunate in that I've already gone through getting a little too dependent on a streamer for comfort who then turned out to be a really shitty person ages ago, so now I'm much more careful to keep a stronger degree of separation. No parasocial relationships here, thank you very much. Been there, done that.

I think the only person I would genuinely have some level of difficulty with dropping at this point is Tommy. Ooh, big shocker coming from the person who writes almost exclusively Tommyinnit-centric things, I know.

But yeah, back to Wilbur-- regarding c!Wilbur in fanfics, I unfortunately can't just remove the influence he's had over c!Tommy- just like I can't remove the impact c!Dream's had on c!Tommy's life. I also can't change c!Tommy's perspective of c!Wilbur, so at least regarding TomTurtles, Tommy's still going to mention Wilbur, and he's still going going to think of him his older brother and someone that he cares about.

However, as the writer, I will be far less merciful in how he's portrayed, regardless of c!Tommy's biased perspective (c!Wilbur isn't going to show up- that was never in the cards outside of a now scrapped idea for a non-canon fic in the series where c!Wilbur has actually been living in the same America as Tom and the turtles and they find each other again)

After I'm done writing the crossover series though, I don't think I'll be including him in anything else. Which is a shame only because it means I can't use c!Tommy.

Sure, most of my portrayals of Tommy will probably still draw heavily from c!Tommy but I probably won't be able to take him straight from dsmp anymore.

Upside to scrapping all of my ideas that included Wilbur- I can completely replace him with Technoblade AKA, more bedrock bros content \o/ (That being said, most of my fic ideas at this point in time are just various AUs getting Tommy to interact with the cast of rottmnt ahaha-)

All that is to say: While I ultimately view c!Wilbur and cc!WIlbur as different, the second I've finished writing this series, he will most likely never be mentioned or shown again in any of my fics after that. Might as well give any roles he might've played to someone more deserving.
