Izuku, I love you...but you're so complicated.

That’s what I got to say.

With the recent manga chapters…I’m emotional.

Back at chapter 401, I went through my gloomiest, saddest, most depressed state I’ve ever been since following this manga. At that time, I was already submerged in this whole atmosphere of ‘war’, and after Stain’s apparent death, I got a realization…It hit me like a brick: AFO was frightening.

I never measured the true impact and weight of AFO’s actions. I never understood Izuku’s perspective of AFO’s first appearance at the series back at chapter 88.

When I understood that, I really… I genuinely believed of the possibility of AFO’s winning…and I was waiting for AFO’ victory: I could hear his goddamn laugh. I could see the blood, the tears…I was drowning in hopelessness.

After all that I went through those few weeks, chapter 403 came…and I could breath. I smiled with the biggest grin I could physically do…I was excited with the panels of “the new beginning” and that bakudeku glance we had. Then, as if the sun never left our side, shining its light through all crystals of tears…Katsuki rose from death and saved All Might, along with Izuku’s help. He and All Might hit the roof of a building and, it that moment, we were blessed with one of the most beautiful smiles he have ever gotten inside this universe: Katsuki’s genuinely smile as the nerd he is by All Might’s compliment.

I can not express in words the gladness, the satisfaction that grin left me with.

Katsuki has always been a truly complicated character for me since the beginning. But I really like him. I think that he, as a character, has been through quite a lot of experiences that always left with a bittersweet taste of him never truly achieving what he dreamt of: being a hero. But he came to a new light, even after death…his smile, the first genuinely smile we got from him…It made me happy. It made me nostalgic, satisfied with the fact that he, who has suffered so much, finally was given the opportunity to shine, to be.

But then, immerse in that bliss…I could not help but think of Izuku. Compared what I felt for Katsuki in that moment with what I felt for Izuku…

and I felt so empty.

Izuku is so…miserable... right now.

I’ve loved his character since the first time I saw him back at that day when I was presented of the existence of Boku No Hero Academia. I remember beginning to read the manga and his character just made its space into my heart. I saw him overcoming obstacles, defying the prejudices everyone put him into, challenging and coming on top among his classmates, other heroes, becoming the true successor of the symbol of peace…but then, I saw the fog surrounding me.

At that point, back at chapter 256, I realized the situation we were: the beginning of the predestined and inevitable war.

Izuku was stronger than many, happier with his life...but there were traces of painful sadness in his words.

I could see that: there were so many things unspoken and unresolved topics about his character. What does he feel about himself? Did he feel strong at that point? How did he feel about the upcoming battle he had to face against AFO? What is the plan he has to reach out for Tomura? What about his self-sacrificial tendencies? Those are really gone or not? What about his health and body? What about gearshift and the deadly consequences it has to his body? What about his relationship with All Might? with Toshinori? Will he ever stop calling Katsuki by Kacchan? Does he still cling to that past he had with Katsuki when they were friends (before Katsuki manifestated his quirk)? There are still those insecurities he had before? Why does he insist so much that he must not cry? What about his father? Does he have any repercussions about the fact that he did not have a father figure for most of his life? Does he keep thinking of OFA as something special? What were those feelings about Katsuki that he felt that were ‘so gross’ and unworthy of addressing? What about his qurikless past self? How does he feel about his quirkless condition (reference to what he said to Kota back at chapter 72)? Has he ever thought about the bullying Katsuki put him through? What does he feel about that? Did he really forgive Katsuki?

Then, the war started. And I mean the totality of it: things were not being addressed: Everything become ‘battle’, ‘fight’, ‘live-or-die situations'...as it has to be, obviously. In the middle of a war, who in the world will rest for a few seconds to question their reality?

Everything was accelerating, moving.

Many died, many suffered. Including Izuku, whose pov was taken away from us. He went through his Dark Hero Era, his feelings were hidden at the most recondite space possible. He saw his friends and pro heroes bleed, his childhood friend thrown away there in the middle of the battlefield, presumably dead…His idol/father figure almost die at the hands of the greatest villain of all times while fighting with the most dangerous one out there who could touch the ground and destroy the whole world…then he saw how Katsuki got up and saved All Might, leaving him with more time and space to continue the battle…

At the newest chapter, we only got the scene where we see Izuku’s figure, demarcated and exhausted face, thinking how he can defeat ShigAFO.

I think that his character has gone through the correct path, but has cornered himself (or was cornered against his will) into this situation of exhaustion, with so many questions left unanswered, with his character left there with a hurricane of emotions that are not even explained and the readers have only actions to interpret from this.

While Katsuki has overcome his troubled-life and can smile, laugh af AFO's face proclaiming victory…Izuku can not.

Izuku was left behind, even though he was so far ahead of everyone. He can not smile, he can’t rest, can’t let his guard down, can’t even think for a moment what he has been feeling this whole time.

This is a situation, where sooner or later, Izuku will have to face all this things he never addressed even in the slightest…and I want to know how that situation will be.

I want to see him smile, see him become the hero, the symbol of hope he has always dream of to be…I want him to stand tall and strong, smile bright... next to Katsuki.. as it should have been all this time.

Some people: Izuku wasn't affected by his past

Meanwhile, the only time in this manga Izuku ever discloses his past to anyone after gaining One for All was to a five year old he just met in the woods. (Because Kota isn't a peer and is a completely non-threatening entity to him). And of course he did it while depersonalizing the events from himself as much as possible by speaking in third person as if it happened to someone else.

   (Vigilantes ch 67) 6) “Please girl, she hasn`t done anything in the trillions of years since Makoto abandoned our universe, you think she`s going do something else in the next 60 chapters? nonsense, she`ll wait until the last chapter to tell him that she likes him, they`ll start dating, the series will end, mark my words.”- Or she’ll get brainwashed, Koichi will realise he cares about her more than a friend would, and will have to rescue her Prince Charming style to confess her new-found feelings to her once she’s in her right mind.

   (Vigilantes 69) 7) “Oh he got the right idea there, being self-sufficient doesn`t meant that you need to never rely on anyone else, we humans are meant to help each other after all. Heartbreaking how a nomu got the right idea and Pop hasn`t.”- Well, he turned out to have a different idea in mind when he was talking about her ‘true potential’… as a villain and the next host of the re bee parasites.    (Vigilantes ch 69) 8) “Oh boy it seems like she accepted the deal with the devil. Can`t believe pop is going to sign with an agent that will steal all her money AND he is a nomu, good lord, the worst of both worlds, he`s like evil Hannah Montana.”- Well, he hasn’t stolen her money, but he did steal her mind, her body, her promising future as a public singer and possibly her soul, depending on how well Pop can possibly regain herself from all this. That said, still not the most exploitive contract I’ve heard about. 9) “Of course it would be when it came to torturing Pop. Of course. I… I don`t even know what to say. Even though it had been so long since the previous chapter, I don`t think that I had fully processed what happened, but now- well, there`s no way to deny it.

AFO's obsession with family combined with the "tradition matters" general feeling of Japan leaves me to believe that he'd have VERY clearcut expectations.

Christmas in Japan is a very lover based holiday (more like Valentines day in the western world). You better believe that any lover of his will be spoiled rotten but in a VERY controlling way.

Don't have a nice enough outfit for the date? Not a problem. He'll take you shopping and chose one for you.

You're going out to dinner because he needs to show you off. 30,000 yen a plate Michellen Star resturants only. He'll order for you. After all, he knows what's best.

"Have another glass of wine sweetheart, it's only once a year."

Christmas cake 🎂 is a must. Traditional sponge cake with whipped cream frosting and strawberries. Nothing else will do. If you could burn water, he'll just order one. If you enjoy baking, he'll expect you to make it. It won't be subtle.

Rewatching BNHA for the third time, and I'm realizing some interesting contrasts between Kirishima and Bakugou's characters.

After episode 72, it's clear that Kirishima's greatest fear is that his worth is dependent on his personality and amiability. He fears that his only useful trait is his optimism and fears that he lacks the physical ability to back up his easy-going nature. Throughout the series, professional heroes and his classmates work with him because it seems like an easy option.

Bakugou is the opposite. People hire him and use him because they can achieve something by manipulating his negative personality and “fixing” him. Bakugou has a very useful and flashy quirk, so both heroes and villains attempt to change or highlight his negative traits to "perfect" his role in hero (or villain) society. Again, both professional heroes and classmates trust in his physical skills but lack the belief that he will be likable enough to achieve his goals.

They're opposites.....character foils……my beloved….they see their flaws in each other…and they're still friends...im…

Dadzawa is pretty much an established part of the bnha fandom at this point. But, let me just say that when I was rewatching episode 61 and saw this scene :

Either way he just exudes fed up parent energy and and it’s amazing. Whenever he cracks and makes an expression it’s always hilarious.

I think it would be fun to se a fic where the 1-A kids start calling Aizawa Mom/Mamazawa because ‘f**k traditional gender norms.’ And everyone just jumps onto it and soon the other students, teachers, his vigilante contacts are all calling him Mom.

He goes along with it because a) he knows the kids will just come up with something else, b) he really doesn’t care, c) he’s privately kind of touched.

… this is what my brain does when I don’t sleep for 72 hours.

Okay, so I was doing some chores here at my house and, out of nowhere (something completely normal forr me as a fan of bnha), chapter 413 popped in my head, especifically pages 13-14, and I started rambling my ideas...until I realized something.

Izuku is going to lose OFA.

Ok, not that, which is literal text, but this:

Izuku is going to lose OFA, and while arguing with Kudou and the others vestiges, he was crying his eyes out because what mattered the most to Izuku about losing OFA, among ALL the consequences and intricate meanings which 'becoming quirkless again' could represent...It was the fact that OFA was a gift from All Might that made Izuku's heart ache in agony at that moment.

ch. 413 Here I want to note that the spanish official translation says exactly the same, so there's no contradictions.

It was not that he was going back to his past self, not that he most-likely would have to face that discrimination he went through all his childhood all over again. Not that losing his quirk could mean that he would have to stop being a hero. Not that he was gong back on being useless/worthless again...ANY OF THAT! BUT because he is 'losing the gift, meant for him, from his daddy might'...THAT'S what was causing his tears...

And from this, I see two things:

First...

IZUKU YOU BASTARD!!

HE'S AVOIDING AGAINNN THINKING OF HIMSELF!!

And, I'm sorry, but being quirkless is not goddamn easy!

It has been explained several times in the development of the plot that bnha's society is based on superhumans: people with quirks.

Being just a regular person without a quirk is a really complicated thing to deal with, and having that particularity means facing problems both on a social and psychological level.

In Aoyama's case, for example, his parents were so devastated over the fact that their son was quirkless, and therefore, he was feeling excluded and different from others, that they reached a point of despair that they made a deal with AFO and, well, you know the rest.

Another one that comes to mind is Ragdoll. Her inclusion here in the list could be debated, but what I want to distinguish about her character is that, after losing her quirk completely by AFO's doing, she had to face a huge set back in order to re-organize her new life now without a quirk. She didn't appeared in the story for many chapter until it was explained that she was still working as a hero but in the backstage, to say in a way.

And finally, Izuku is one of the clearer examples of all this (and that's why he's the protagonist).

He had to deal with bullying, rejection and exclusion (from their classmates when he was in elementary/middle school to the entire society against him). His OWN mother had her own troubles to support him over a dream that was impossible to achieve because, once more, confront villian with a broad range of hazardous quirks against a single person was basically suicidal...

On note of all this, I have to mention this scene (which I say now: I'll bring this up over and over again, a thousand times if needed). I've mention this specific situation in one of my posts before, but now I'll explain it more in depth:

ch. 72, pages 19-20

WHAT ABOUT THIS HORI!!??! HUH!!?? WHAT'S THAT?? WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN???!! "BIRTH DEFECT"!?? "HE JUST COULDN'T ACCEPT THE TRUTH"?!?!

This scene has always been stuck in my head since the first time I read it because...here it explicitly shows Izuku's demeaning perspective over 'being quirkless'.

Here he's saying that "it's a defect", an imperfection, something he lacks on (because society has made it a necessity or requirement).

And even in spanish, even though it doesn't translates as 'defect', it highlights the idea of 'he didn't get what he should have received' (in this case, that his parents 'couldn't provide him of that')

In both languages it is mention the phrase where he explains that ' ' 'his friend' ' ' always kept believing EVEN when the universe was proving him wrong again and again.

My point here is: Izuku has a negative view of being quirkless (just as any other person in-universe would have) and with that, the possibilities of him having a list of low self-esteem issues, lack of confidence and self-value even as a human being are REALLY high...

but then, the fact that Izuku, after having been thrown around for the most dangerous villian of all, shirtless and crying with a bunch of ghosts inside his head...when they're telling him of getting rid of what he should have had always what makes him human...he doesn't think of him. of the problems he would have to face. of the pain he would go through again...

Instead, he thinks of 'the gift from All Might', almost as if the quirk were a toy All Might gave him and that he shouldn't lose it because All Might would feel angry or sorry for him...

MAYBE, maybe I'm going around the bush and making no sense... but FUCK IT! I WANT ANSWERS, HORI!!

I NEED THEM!! I'M LOSING MY MIND!!!

Why is he refusing himself again?? Avoiding HIS feelings but worrying about others'? Or rather, worrying about THE THING instead the consequences it causes the lost of it??!

WHY IS HE ALWAYS THINKING OF ANYTHING BUT HIM?!

Ok. Now that I've calmed myself down and said what i was meaning to say...after having been screaming internally against Izuku and all his shit...the second point I wanted to talk about was that...

With everything that has happened, a GREAT opportunity would be presenting itself to develop the dad-son bond Toshinori and Izuku have been building since the beggining.

Let me explain:

When All Might first came to town and met Izuku, their bond began to form because they were interating with one another because of OFA. The 'you're my successor' was the excuse and only connection they had to be together. And for that same reason is how their relationship exists in the first place.

So...if Izuku loses OFA. If that excuse stops to exists...the only reason for them to continue being together would be the love they have develop for one another as father-son.

If Toshinori could spell out loud to Izuku that he cares for him beyond that 'you're my successor' or 'the one I gave it my quirk'...if they could transcend that lame excuse and finally spoke to each other as human beings...

GOD, maybe I'm projecting myself here because I LOVE their relationship and i would gladly like to see Toshi legally adopting Izuku or them calling each other 'my son' and 'my dad'...but, yeah...

Hyrule is in a major role in a whopping 72% of my stories set in the lu au (69% if you don't count the tumblr oneshots individually), which is something indeed as his counterpart Izuku in bnha is sitting at 44% of my fics there (35% if you count all the tumblr writing ones but not the unwritten aus)- but hey, a larger ensemble means more characters vying to fill that lead spot- if any do at all. or not, because Dick is in 80% of my dc related fics. while there is literally no way to see who's a favorite stormlight character with everyone even only appearing in one of two stories, let alone staring.

Thelreads, Vigilantes 72, Replies Part 2

1) “The hilarious part of this is that koichi knows the exact answer for that: it`s the kids from the st- HOLY FUCK IS THE HOTTA BROTHERS?!?”- Koichi’s assembling all allies for the manhunt, but sadly, it seems the timeskip was not kind to the one brother who was worried about his hair loss.

2) “Yeah, what about her family, why haven`t we seen them yet? The friends part we already covered last page, but what about her family?

Where are they know? Please don`t tell me they were at that pile of bodies that Pop got thrown into”- It seems Pop’s kept her familial and social circles so far apart that her parents were only barely aware of her Idol career moonlighting – their ignorance about narufest indicates they weren’t even aware she was a performer or had aspirations of becoming a full-on singer 3) “We never saw him caring about her in any way that could mean more than a friendship, we never saw him wondering about her opinions or thoughts, or wondering when she would arrive at their hideout, or even seeing something at a store and going “Oh, pop would like that”. Sure, sure, he`s dense and never stopped to give it much thought about any of it until he lost her, but that feels more like an excuse than anything else. This was supposed to be the biggest and most dramatic moment of the series so far and I feel… nothing.”- It does seem like Furuhashi’s been a little hamstrung in establishing the genuine romantic connections between others. For all the twists and turns in the story that were well executed, it seems that the intentional separation and distance between Koichi and Pop that this moment was supposed to be a big dramatic revelation of has also made the intended impact fall a little flat. Koichi suddenly realising that there was a big gap between the girl he knew and what he actually knew about her is undercut by the fact that that self-same separation has also kept their interactions from being quite that romantic or meaningful. In a way, it’s a reverse of Twilight and Yor’s situation, with both their romantic escapades coming out in spite of the misunderstandings and both sides intentionally keeping secrets from the other and misinterpreting how the other feels, except when they’re absolutely on the nail, and then they assume they must have got it wrong, there’s no way she/he could feel that way about me, etc… 4) “IT WASN`T LIKE, ONE OR TWO DAYS?

SHE`S BEEN GONE FOR ALMOST A WEEK THEN?!

WHAT. THE FUCK.”- Well, the way I read that is, Pop’s been missing from her home for a week, but was actually at Koichi’s palce and preparing for Narufest up until a few days ago/yesterday. It honestly doesn’t seem like that long since No:6 lured her into the building, maybe a day or two, because I agree that Koichi would have noticed something amiss if Pop was gone for longer than that. Granted, there must have been an adjustment period for the parasites to rewire Pop’s brain and properly control her body, but because I like Koichi, I’m guessing that this new strain of parasite is specifically bred to do what the old one could better and faster, otherwise there’s no excuse. 5) “Should have expected that one, Pop and her parents didn`t seemed to be on very good terms, by the looks of it, it would be understandable why she wouldn`t have told them about it.”- In a way, Pop dug her own grave by being so secretive and uncommunicative with others. People in both sides of her live were so unaware of what she was like in the full picture that none of them noticed fully something was amiss until No:6 strolled in and whisked her away with ease, without even having to put much effort into making her ‘disappear’. 6) “Now that I think about it, how didn`t they got to you guys before? Sure, pop never told her parents, but if the cops were looking for her they would`ve checked her social media at her personal computer, they would have seen that she uses the Pop✩Step persona and would have traced her movements to this place. Fuck`s sake, she`s been a regular figure in this neighborhood for over two years, how could nobody point at here as the first place to look???”-  I guess maybe her parents are used to her being absent for long periods and secretive, given all the time she spends around Koichi’s place, and the fact they don’t seem to be fully aware of the extent of her idol career, so maybe they’ve gotten used to her spending days away from the home, only to pop back in briefly to catch up before leaving for a while again. This latest absent period might have just recently reached the point she was absent for longer than usual and they called in the police, because the way Rachel says they’ve filed a missing persons report gave me the impression they’d only finished doing so within the last day or so, hence why the police are only now coming around 7) “OH GOD NO I`M NOT READY FOR THIS

I DON`T WANT TO SEE MY KID AS A VILLAIN

PLEASE FURUHASHI, HAVE MERCY”- L, seeing the bees and knowing what’s coming.

8) “WELP, GUESS THE PARTY IS GETTING STARTED IT THEN… YEAH SEEMS LIKE WE WON`T EVEN GIVE A SINGLE CHAPTER BEFORE SHE SHOWS UP AGAIN”- The plot’s stagnated long enough. It’s time for events to go into overdrive…and for the worse. 9) “Yeah koichi, bombs! Bombs! Been a while since you last to fight for your life it seems, you were growing too soft, we need to strike some fear of god into your life right now.”- He’s back in the danger zone, and this time, there’s no easy way out. 10) “Welp, Pop already killed some people at least. Her bees were targeting specifically that furry over there by the looks of it, Furuhashi is the opposite of Horikoshi after all.”-And with that, Pop’s officially a villain in the eyes of the law. Nobody knew about Tamao and the bee parasite, because Knuckle was so desperate to try and give his girl as much of a normal life as he could, and he never told Koichi or Pop anything about the Villain Factory or the people involved in it, so they have no clue as to why this is happening, and to an outside perspective, Pop’s doing this of her own free will. Nobody will believe the girl blowing up buildings to put on a show is anything but another crazy villain to get taken down, just like nobody gave Jin a real chance after that traffic accident, so the authorities won’t be trying to save her, but stop her, and even if she survives the fight, her reputation will forever carry the stigmata of being a villain going forward. Pop’s bright happy future just burst like a bubble.

11) “Huh, maybe we’ll finally get to know who she is- Oh wait, is this chapter about her? Is she the Queen Bee the tittle is about?”- Well, she wasn’t then but she is now. That said, the title page does seem to focus on her because her and Kuin are initially evil counterparts to each other, so perhaps it was both hinting at Kuin’s role as her foil as well as Pop’s eventual transformation into the second host

12) “DAMMIT POP IF YOU FALL DOWN THE STAIRS AND DIE YOU’RE GOING TO GET ISEKAI’D AND WILL HAVE TO FIGHT AGAINST YOUR LONG LOST TWIN USING THE POWERS OF DARKNESS, AND WE DON’T NEED THAT IN HERE, OKAY?!”- well, it’s no Isekai, but Pop is certainly using the powers of darkness here, and Bee Pop could certainly count as her evil half, since she’s not interested in holding out for a hero….

14) Pop jumping down a stair, probably symbolizing her jumping out of her comfort zone towards her goal, and god help me, not her jumping towards a dangerous fate, as she can end up hurt doing something like that.

Furuhashi, you better watch out, depending on what symbolism you’re going for, got it?”- Or her innocently taking a small jump forward with her life, or so she thinks, and it turning out to be the first step in a downward spiral towards her becoming a fallen hero.

15) “First, the parasite is implied to not be a singular queen, but every single bee we saw so far cooperating in a true hive mind, meaning that unless Knuckle kills every single one of them, there’s a good chance that it will come back for vengeance.”- Well… I wouldn’t say it’s back for vengeance, but…..
