The Command to Leave Sinai
The LORD spoke to Moshe, "Depart, go up from here, you and the people that you have brought up out of the land of Mitzrayim, to the land of which I swore to Avraham, to Yitzchak, and to Ya`akov, saying, 'I will give it to your seed.' — Exodus 33:1 | Hebrew Names Version (HNV) The Hebrew Names Version Bible is in the public domain. Cross References: Genesis 12:7; Genesis 26:1; Genesis 28:10; Exodus 32:13; Leviticus 20:24; Numbers 11:12; Acts 7:36

Avran is the father of monotheism ? Because Har Sinai and judaism came after?
Not sure I understand the question, can you rephrase? (Assuming you mean Avraham but I don’t understand where the “because” part comes in.)

🌊 I would like to know which Jewish names are your favourites?
I really like a lot of Jewish names. It's nice finding out what people's Hebrew names are, or the meaning of their name if it is Hebrew.
♥️= Ultra Favourites
BOYS
Absalom/Avshalom
Meaning: "my father is peace" (Hebrew). A son of King David. He avenged his sister Tamar by arranging the murder of her rapist, their half-brother Amnon.
Ariel
Meaning: "lion of God" (Hebrew). In the Old Testament it is used as another name for the city of Jerusalem.
Aharon/Aron
Meaning: "high mountain" or "exalted" (Hebrew). The older brother of Moses. He acted as a spokesman for his brother when they appealed to the pharaoh to release the Israelites from slavery. Aaron's rod produced miracles and plagues to intimidate the pharaoh. After the departure from Egypt and arrival at Mount Sinai, God installed Aaron as the first high priest of the Israelites and promised that his descendants would form the priesthood.
Amram
Meaning: "exhalted nation" (Hebrew), Amram is the father of Moses.
Avraham (Abraham)
Meaning: "father of many" (Hebrew). The biblical patriarch Abraham was originally named Abram but God changed his name. With his father Terah, he led his wife Sarah, his nephew Lot and their other followers from Ur into Canaan. He is regarded by Jews as being the founder of the Hebrews, through his son Isaac and by Muslims as being the founder of the Arabs through his son Ishmael.
Eli
Meaning: "my God" (Hebrew).
Elior
Meaning: "my God is my light" (Hebrew)
Elisha
Meaning: "my God is salvation" (Hebrew); Elisha was a prophet and miracle worker. He was the attendant of Elijah and succeeded him after his ascension to heaven.
Eliyah/Eliyahu (Elijah) ♥️
Meaning: "my God is Yahweh" Yahweh is one of the names of God and is not to be said out loud (Hebrew); Elijah was a Hebrew prophet and miracle worker.
Ezra
Meaning: "help" (Hebrew); Ezra is a prophet, and the author of the Book of Ezra.
Gidon (Gideon) ♥️
Meaning: "feller, hewer" (Hebrew); Gideon is a hero and judge of the Old Testament who led the vastly outnumbered Israelites against the Midianites, defeated them, and killed their two kings.
Isaac
Meaning: "he will laugh, he will rejoice" (Hebrew); The Old Testament explains this meaning, by recounting that Abraham laughed when God told him that his aged wife Sarah would become pregnant with Isaac, and later Sarah laughed when overhearing the same prophecy. When Isaac was a boy, God tested Abraham's faith by ordering him to sacrifice his son, though an angel prevented the act at the last moment. Isaac went on to become the father of Esau and Jacob with his wife Rebecca.
Lev
Meaning: "heart" (Hebrew)
Levi
Meaning: "joined, attached" (Hebrew); Levi was the third son of Jacob and Leah, and the ancestor of one of the twelve tribes of the Israelites, known as the Levites. This was the tribe that formed the priestly class of the Israelites. This name also occurs in the New Testament, where it is another name for the apostle Matthew.
Lior
Meaning: "light for me" (Hebrew).
Meir
Meaning: "giving light" (Hebrew).
Maor
Meaning: "a light" (Hebrew).
Micah
Meaning: “who is like God?” (Hebrew). Micah is one of the twelve minor prophets of the Old Testament. He authored the Book of Micah, which alternates between prophesies of doom and prophesies of restoration. This is also the name of a separate person in the Book of Judges, the keeper of an idol.
Michael
Meaning: "who is like God?" (Hebrew). This is a rhetorical question, implying no person is like God. Michael is one of the archangels in Hebrew tradition and the only one identified as an archangel in the Bible.
Moshe/Moishe (Moses) ♥️
Meaning: Most likely derived from Egyptian mes meaning "son", but could also possibly mean "deliver" in Hebrew. Moses was drawn out of the Nile by the pharaoh's daughter and adopted into the royal family, at a time when the Israelites were slaves in Egypt.
Natan (Nathan)
Meaning: "he gave" (Hebrew). A prophet during the reign of King David. He chastised David for his adultery with Bathsheba and for the death of Uriah the Hittite. Later he championed Solomon as David's successor. This was also the name of a son of David and Bathsheba.
Nathanael/Netanel (Nathaniel) ♥️
Meaning: "God has given" (Hebrew). It is borne by several minor characters in the Old Testament, typically spelled Nethanel or Nethaneel.
Noach ♥️
Meaning: Hebrew and Dutch form of Noah; "rest, repose" (Hebrew); Noah was the builder of the Ark that allowed him, his family, and animals of each species to survive the Great Flood. After the flood he received the sign of the rainbow as a covenant from God.
Noam ♥️
Meaning: "pleasantness" (Hebrew).
Shelomoh/Solomon
Meaning: Derived from Hebrew shalom, meaning "peace". Solomon was a king of Israel, the son of David and Bathsheba. He was renowned for his wisdom and wealth. Towards the end of his reign, he angered God by turning to idolatry. Supposedly, he was the author of the Book of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon.
Shmuel (Samuel) ♥️
Meaning: "name of God" or "God has heard" (Hebrew). As told in the Books of Samuel in the Old Testament, Samuel was the last of the ruling judges. He led the Israelites during a period of domination by the Philistines, who were ultimately defeated in battle at Mizpah. Later he anointed Saul to be the first king of Israel, and even later anointed his successor David.
Yoshua/Yehoshua (Joshua)♥️
Meaning: "Yahweh is salvation" Yahweh is one of the names of God and is not to be said out loud (Hebrew). As told in the Old Testament, Joshua was a companion of Moses. He went up Mount Sinai with Moses when he received the Ten Commandments from God, and later he was one of the twelve spies sent into Canaan. After Moses died, Joshua succeeded him as leader of the Israelites and he led the conquest of Canaan.
Zachariah
Meaning: "Yahweh remembers" Yahweh is one of the names of God and is not to be said out loud (Hebrew). This is the name of many characters in the Old Testament, including the prophet Zechariah, the author of the Book of Zechariah.
Zohar
Meaning: "light, brilliance" (Hebrew).
GIRLS
Ariel (+variations) ♥️
Meaning: "lion of God" (Hebrew). In the Old Testament it is used as another name for the city of Jerusalem.
Alma ♥️
Meaning: "young woman" (Hebrew); "soul" (Latin, Latin languages).
Eden ♥️
Meaning: "pleasure, delight" (Hebrew); "plain" (Sumerian); Garden of Eden where the first people, Adam and Eve, lived before they were expelled.
Eliora ♥️
Meaning: "my God is my light" (Hebrew)
Elisheva (Elizabeth)
Meaning: "my God is an oath" (Hebrew); The Hebrew form appears in the Old Testament where Elisheva is the wife of Aaron, while the Greek form appears in the New Testament where Elizabeth is the mother of John the Baptist.
Ester/Esther ♥️
Meaning: Possibly means "star" (Persian); could be a derivative of the name of the Near Eastern goddess Ishtar; Queen Esther, jewish wife of the king of Persia.
Hannah (+variations) ♥️
Meaning: From the Hebrew name Channah meaning "favour, grace". In the Old Testament this is the name of the wife of Elkanah. Her rival was Elkanah's other wife Peninnah, who had children while Hannah remained barren. After a blessing from Eli she finally became pregnant with Samuel.
Levana
Meaning: "white" (Hebrew); a poetic name for the moon.
Liora
Meaning: "light for me" (Hebrew).
Meira
Meaning: "giving light" (Hebrew).
Miriam
Meaning: More popularly known as it's English version, Mary. It is used in the Old Testament, where it belongs to the elder sister of Moses and Aaron. She watched over the infant Moses as the pharaoh's daughter drew him from the Nile. The name has long been popular among Jews, and it has been used as an English Christian name (alongside Mary) since the Protestant Reformation.
Nahal
Meaning: "stream" (Hebrew).
Nava
Meaning: "beautiful" (Hebrew).
Nessa ♥️
Meaning: "miracle" (Hebrew).
Noam ♥️
Meaning: "pleasantness" (Hebrew).
Nogah
Meaning: "brightness" (Hebrew).
Raisa
Meaning: "rose" (Yiddish)
Reina
Meaning: "clean, pure" (Yiddish); "queen" (Spanish and Italian).
Tovah
Meaning: "good" (Hebrew).
Tzvia
Meaning: "gazelle, roebuck" (Hebrew).
Velvela
Meaning: "little wolf" (Yiddish).

oyou know what, fuck it. I’m drunk on a Tuesday night and I’ve been talking about Jews in an old fandom for the last couple of days so I’m going to make my case for Jewish Relius, in full acknowledgement of the fact that it makes no sense in canon
so the maps of the QT world seem to sort of imply that this is a world where Turkey/possibly parts of Iran and Iraq share a land bridge with Africa, cutting out most of the Sinai peninsula including Eretz Yisrael. which would make the existence of Judaism (or Christianity or Islam for that matter).... difficult. but not totally impossible! because Avraham Avinu is said to be from Ur, which historically was on the Persian Gulf which is roughly analogous to the QT great southern ocean. so it’s totally possible to sub one of those Three Cities or Hemet in for a fictional QT Jerusalem.
and it’s then real easy to make a fictional diaspora in the Hephestian Peninsula because of all that imperialism in the Mede region (am I making Immakuk an antisemite in this au? hope not. he can be that fucking dude. what’s his face. Cyrus? the one who ended the babylonian exile), and the Greek Jewish diaspora is one of the oldest in the world, going back a solid 2100 years, well within the QT-equivalent era.
and yknow, by Gen’s time people are pretty lackadaisical towards the gods, which is Good for the Jews, because we tend to do Not Great in times of strong nationalistic  religion and cultural hegemony.
anyway that’s my argument for Jewish QT characters in general
now let’s move on to my boychik Relius
I am aware that this could play into stereotypes given that Relius is a very Suspicious Slippery character who ~Betrays his Country~ and has a voracious sexual appetite but consider this
I Can Do Anything I Want
setting aside the sex stuff because sex is Good actually and all my favorite people are LGBTQ Jews
gross stereotypes very often have their roots in something Real but misconstrued
we see this in QT itself. very, very, very frequently, characters resort to trickery and lies and underhandedness because they are members of an underclass and therefore do not have the luxury of above-board measures--Pheris weaponizes ableism, Irene weaponizes sexism (moreso than Helen, who tends to defy it outright). Relius and Kamet are a bastard and an enslaved person, respectively (and okloi as a matter of course) and that shapes their personalities to a POWERFUL degree
so too the Jews. for a significant portion of European history, Jews were legally okloi as a class, pushed into trade because they were forbidden for owning land. being non-landowners deprived them of most of the legal rights afforded subjects/citizens, but in some ways also was beneficial, in that they were more mobile and had more avenues for success and stability if something like, say, a war or a flood or what-have-you bankrupted farmers and landowners. at various points, various European nations also employed Jews as the enforcers of the state financial apparatus. Christians and Jews alike are forbidden from charging interests to their in-group, but without interest, nobody is fckig giving loans to anyone, and if no one can get a loan, that’s a significant damper on the economy. so, the king puts Jews in charge of banks, because Jews can charge Christians interest. the king puts Jews in charge of collecting taxes. “court Jews” do the bidding of the monarchy because putting themselves under the king’s protection gives them access to wealth and power they would otherwise be barred from, AND ALSO protects them from outbursts of religiously or politically motivated antisemitic violence because fucking No One likes the tax collectors or the bank’s loan officers
which is to say - Shylock was the tragic hero of Merchant of Venice, actually
and Relius can fit a stereotype and still be Good Jewish Representation if he is written with all the love and sensitivity and historical nuance I hold in my heart
side note: all the Tolkien fans who were mad at me for writing Jewish Dwarves because I was ~stereotyping them~ when I was just trying to add nuance to Tolkien’s blatant “they were meant to be Semitic” bullshit can still fuck right off
where was I going with this
okay so
Judaism is matrilineal and Relius is raised by his mother and his father is a steward but doesn’t acknowledge him and he’s sort of three-times stereotyped as a bastard, an okloi, and an Outsider, barely Attolian tbh, doesn’t acknowledge the old gods or the new
and he learns how to manipulate people as a matter of survival and he thrives and there’s some kind of parallel to be made between Mordechai and Esther and Relius and Irene, I’m pretty sure--
Mordechai is the uncle of a young woman who becomes the queen of Babylon or Persia or something and he helps her get there and there’s this whole Thing where an evil advisor is going to kill the Jews and Mordechai is like “perhaps it is for this moment that you have become queen?” and Esther becomes a hero and we have a whole holiday about getting drunk and eating food in the shape of the evil guy’s hat/fingers/ears
the way he guilts Kamet in that Thick as Thieves scene. very Jewish.
the fact that he’s in love with Teleus, who is Extremely Goyish. reminds me of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, when Sammy falls in love with a blond named Bacon. the Intellectual loves the Jock. shocking.
my god, the fact that he’s always poking his nose into other people’s business. because of national security? no. because he NEEDS to be the most well-informed gossip at Kiddush after Shabbat services. prior to her marriage, all of his reports to Irene were made over a dixie cup of wine, while clutching a plate from the buffet, looking across the room at the people they were talking about
the short velvet cape he affects even in summer? actually a tallit. Costis, too, is the most hopelessly goyishe man who’s ever existed and just forgot to mention the fringes.
he’s into history (Jews fucking love history) and astronomy (because he has that sphere thing--and you know, astronomy is useful for a lunar calendar), and he plays the flute. you know why there are no Jewish piano players? because you can’t flee the country with a piano. but a flute fits the bill.
oh man, his lessons with Pheris could be ripped straight out of any Jewish-American Eastern-European immigrant story about a cheder. Jews Love education and don’t fully give a shit about not scaring children in the process.
that’s the proof, and may I add the headcanons:
Relius enjoying a very long, leisurely meal on Friday evenings for Shabbat, drinking wine, singing/enjoying music, discussing grammar/translation, poetry, and philosophy with his dinner guests (Kamet, Gen, Irene, Pheris. Teleus and Costis mostly there for eye candy.)
Relius in the beginning of his career being more cautious, and then becoming more comfortable in his position and being like actuallyyyyy, I will keep kosher and keep the Sabbath, thanks, and if I’m a workaholic who writes spy reports on Saturdays that’s None of Your Business. I will get mad at people who expect me to work on the sabbath anyway.
got a lil silver hamsa pendant with a sapphire evil eye he wears all the time.
favorite holiday is Pesach. what can I say, Greek Jewish boy loves a symposium.
in conclusion: if you understood this post, the most niche post I have ever created in my life, please dm me so we can be friends. Relius’s Hebrew name is Reuven in honor of the fact that that would be my Hebrew name if I were a man. good night.

Miko Peled explains how Netanyahu era made Israelis realize they didn’t have to hide their racism and genocidal desires anymore—they could be open and honest.

Miko Peled is an Israeli-American activist, born to a highly prominent Zionist family.
His grandfather, Avraham Katsnelson, signed Israel’s Declaration of Independence.
His father, Mattityahu Peled, fought in the 1947–1949 Palestine war, and served as a general in the Six-Day War of 1967. Later, he condemned the Israeli military for seizing the West Bank, Gaza, Sinai and the Golan Heights, calling the war a "cynical campaign of territorial expansion".

you're post about buck converting was very insightful and i was wondering if you could maybe share what that process looks like?
so, im not sure if you mean about the process in general or about buck specifically - if I guessed wrong feel free to pop back in and tell me!
so, all this is with the caveat that there is a TON of difference between denominations, different synagogues, and even just individual rabbis. No two people will have the same process, or even the same general steps or ""requirements"". Also with the caveat that I am a fairly well-educated jew but I am not a rabbi. For context, I would say my background is conserva-form, or Masortiform (some mix of conservative/Masorti and reform judaism).
an important note here before we begin: jews don't proselytize. it's not a fully closed religion like Zoroastrianism, but we don't recruit, and there is an extensive formal process in Jewish law for transitioning from a non-jew to a jew. We also don't believe that everyone needs to be jewish; if your only frame of reference is christianity, that might seem very weird. there is a very small subset of moral laws called the noahide laws that we think all people should follow, and you don't need to/have to do anything else if you're not a jew. becoming a jew means exponentially increasing your moral/religious obligations!
if one decided that despite all the good arguments against it, they still wanted to formally begin the process, it would start with an expression of interest - most people have done something jewish or gotten at least marginally involved in a jewish community at some point, just kind of poking around. You have to know something to even begin to think you might want to convert, you know? and so at some point you go from a person hanging around a jewish organization to someone who has spoken to a rabbi and is Officially Exploring Judaism.
Now comes the weird part - i know people for whom this section was less than a year, and people for whom this section was a decade+. All you do is learn. that's it! there's no guide for when you've learned enough. You might take an intro to judaism class, you might take other classes about judaism, you might just go to services a lot, you might do Torah study... one thing that's almost guaranteed is that in this period you meet every so often with the rabbi who is guiding you through this process. The key is to integrate into the community and functionally live like you're Jewish before you actually formally become Jewish. between the two of you, you decide when you're ready. Some things a rabbi might want to see at this stage include:
indications that you understand the seriousness/permanence of your decision
a shabbat practice of some kind
a tzedakah (charity) practice of some kind
some form of personal prayer practice
engagement with jewish community
overall acceptable level of factual jewish knowledge and knowledge of jewish theology - if you don't know all the major holidays, or if you don't know what kosher means, if you can't name any mitzvot (commandments, the things you're obligated to do as a jew), those would be bad signs.
some denominations will test you on rules about keeping kosher, which blessings you say when, etc. but that tends to be more orthodox
some consideration of keeping kosher or at least engaging with the moral underpinnings of it
commitment to living a jewish life publicly, including in front of your family
commitment to renouncing any other religion traditions you might have been raised with (this gets fuzzier when it comes to the blurred line between religion and culture; every rabbi will interpret it differently)
most rabbis will also want you to have done one full jewish year cycle, so that you've hit each of the holidays
it all depends, really! but at some point your rabbi is going to say to you "hey I think you're ready". This will often come as part of an ongoing conversation - much like getting engaged, it shouldn't surprise you. At this point, if not before, you'll pick your Hebrew name. [Hebrew names are one to two personal names and then a gendered word for child, and then the names of your parents. Unless they have a good reason not to, converts usually format their names as personal name(s) bat/ben Avraham v'Sara, child of Abraham and Sarah, the first jews.] The Hebrew name-choosing process is deeply personal and also a lot of fun! Some people who were raised jewish never got a Hebrew name, or some folks will add a second personal name after a major life event, so there are a lot of ways to end up picking part or all of your name.
After you and your rabbi agree you're ready, the final step is a beit din - a religious court, but it's not as scary as it sounds - and then immersion in a mikvah, a ritual bath. the beit din is a small group of learned jews (though in modern conversion processes they're almost always rabbis) who talk to you and ask questions about your conversion until they're satisfied. They will ask about many of the things in that bulleted list above. No rabbi ever sends someone to the beit din if they don't personally think they're ready, but I have heard of people being sent back from a beit din, so it's not a guarantee. The vast, VAST majority of people are not sent back, though, and at least in the reform movement, the formal beit din concludes with a series of questions that everyone gets asked, almost as a formality; the rabbi definitely already knows your answers to these. Once that's done, you immerse in the mikvah; some places do these immediately one after the other, but I've heard from people whose beit din was on a different day than their actual immersion.
there is a whole separate post about immersing in a mikvah but basically a rabbi or mikvah guide walks you through it and after you come out of the mikvah is the moment you're officially jewish! mazel tov!
Crucially, at any point in this process before the mikvah, you can back out - no one will be mad. We love people exploring judaism and it's great to learn about even if you ultimately decide you were not meant to join the tribe! However, once you've immersed in the mikvah, it's permanent - there is nothing you can do to "un-jew" yourself. there's a teaching that all of the souls of all jewish people forever were together at Sinai when Moses brought down the ten commandments, which is a beautiful teaching that also embodies a lot of the modern approach to conversion - you were always jewish, it's just that your jewish journey looks different from someone else's!
i hope this was helpful and not just massively confusing 😅

Yitro
Tumblr media
6 February 2021
I love this parsha because of its namesake. Yitro—that is, Jethro—is my number-one favorite character in the entire Torah, and I don't think that's just DreamWorks SKG's smokin'-hot zaddy talking.
Start with his name. Shmot Rabbah, the great midrash, says that "Yitro" means "expand"; in one case, that he expanded the Torah. And that he was called Hobab when he was first introduced because of his great love—the root H-B-B meaning "love". Whenever he appears in the Torah, he spreads and expands love.
And this parshah won't stop talking about Yitro's name! Every time he's mentioned, he comes along with one of his epithets; he's never simply referred to by his name. And these two epithets are interesting: first, he's "kohein Mid'yan", the priest of Midian. But not any priest, a kohein, like the Israelite priests.
Second, he's "chotein Mosheh", Mosheh's father-in-law. This is the most frequent epithet, sometimes used without even Yitro's name. But it doesn't exactly mean "father-in-law"; in modern Hebrew, father-in-law is cham. Although we assume Yitro is that kind of relative to Moses, Ch-T-N is the same root as chatan, husband or bridegroom, and the root has to do with creating a familial covenant. It sounds to me like Yitro is a very special kind of relative to Mosheh and has a really important bond with him, not merely through Tzipporah, but from heart to heart.
In this parshah, Yitro does a few very important things:
He brings Tzipporah, Gershom, and Eliezer back to Moses after he "sent Tzipporah away",
He tells Mosheh to take a fucking break,
He explains to Mosheh the will of G-d, essentially superceding Moses as a prophet.
And all these things prepare the people of Israel for receiving the Torah from G-d on Mount Sinai, arguably the highest point in the history of the People of Israel, ever.
So what's the significance of the three things Yitro does?
Most importantly, Yitro, as a wise elder who's been in the struggle for a lot longer than Mosheh, schools him on his priorities and responsibilities. Thinking back to Bereishit, Avraham didn't have anyone to tell him about his responsibilities, and he wouldn't even listen to other prophets like Avimelech, so Avraham ended up a self-serving, egotistical megalomaniac. Yitro—and it can be inferred, the Holy One of Blessing—does not want to see that happen again with Mosheh.
Mosheh is also clearly in need of a father figure, a chotein. We learn from the Talmud in Sotah 12a that Amram was a leader in Israel, but he broke under stress. When he learned that Pharoah intended to kill all of the newborn male Israelites, he threw in the towel, and if it hadn't been for Miryam, that would have been the end of the Jewish people.
On the other hand, my own father likes to lean into his persona of the Asian Immigrant Dad (his words, not mine!) He takes it to mean that if you want something, you have to work hard for it, making it your single-minded focus until you achieve the results you want.
But in reality, we don't need either of these extreme solutions to weather life's storms, and Yitro arrives with Tzipporah to teach Mosheh a thing or two. The first thing he taught him is that one's responsibility to G-d does not come before one's responsibility to family. Rashi explains that Mosheh had divorced Tzipporah when Aharon disparaged her as they came to Egypt. In essence, Mosheh despaired and pulled an Amram: oh, things are hard in Egypt? Well, Tzipporah might as well go home and I'll disavow her. Here ends the line of Mosheh.
And in fact, Yitro comes to Mosheh saying "I... am coming to you with your wife and her two sons"—not yours, hers. But they are his, too, and he has a responsibility towards them. Likewise, we all have a responsibility to care for the one's we're bonded to, even if work gets tough. Even if you’re literally Moses.
The second thing Yitro teaches Mosheh is to work smart, not hard. When Yitro saw Moses pulling absurd hours, being out of the house from morning until evening, Yitro pointed out that this was no way to live, and no way to lead; an easy path to instant burnout. He says, “ki-chaveid mim’cha hadavar, lo-tuchal asohu l’vadecha”: “the word is heavy on you, you can’t do it alone and succeed.” Yitro’s not insulting his son-in-law. He’s just stating a fact: you can’t do it alone and succeed.
The final thing Yitro does, which I find the most interesting, is that he speaks for G-d. Like Avimelech, who gets an angelic visit, the Holy One of Blessing has Yitro speak from his divinity. Even before the Torah is given, Yitro knows the mitzvot, saying that G-d commands Mosheh to delegate authority.
At this point, Yitro has just recently accepted G-d as the most powerful. As in, minutes or perhaps hours earlier. But this story teaches us that there is divinity and conscience in every human being, Jewish or otherwise, and we all innately know what the Holy One of Blessing commands even if we can’t fully express it. So Yitro teaches Mosheh another lesson: even if we today venerate Mosheh as our great teacher, he’s nothing without the ones who taught him.

Analisaremos as perguntas:
2.         O que são as Escrituras?
3.         De que forma foi dada?
4.         Qual a importância da escrita?
5.         Quais outras formas de comunicação do Criador?
6.         Qual sua função?
7.         Qual a diferença entre Bíblia e Escritura?
8.         O que é Bíblia?
9.         Qual a sua origem?
A Língua
A fala!!!
E YAHUH יהוה
 Vamos a escritura: Bereshit 10

Incontestably Yours
רְאֵה נָתַתִּי לִפְנֵיכֶם אֶת הָאָרֶץ בֹּאוּ וּרְשׁוּ אֶת הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּע ה’ לַאֲבֹתֵיכֶם לְאַבְרָהָם לְיִצְחָק וּלְיַעֲקֹב לָתֵת לָהֶם וּלְזַרְעָם אַחֲרֵיהֶם (דברים א, ח) SEE, I HAVE GIVEN THE LAND BEFORE YOU; COME AND POSSESS THE LAND THAT G-D SWORE TO YOUR FOREFATHERS, TO AVRAHAM, TO YITZCHAK AND TO YAAKOV, TO GIVE THEM AND THEIR DESCENDANTS AFTER THEM. (DEVARIM 1:8)
Moshe told Bnei Yisrael that when they were yet at Mount Sinai, G-d had expressed His desire to bring them into the Land of Israel immediately. Moreover, G-d assured them at that time that their conquest of the Land would be swift and uncontested: “See, I have given the land before you; come and possess the land that G-d promised to your forefathers.” As Rashi explains, this means, “No one will contest the matter, and you will not need to go to war.”
With these words, Rashi identifies two distinct points that were included in G-d’s declaration that the Land was already given to Bnei Yisrael.
Firstly, G-d assured Bnei Yisrael that none of the nations would contest their right to the land on legal grounds. For as Rashi (Bereishis 1:1) explains, this takeover was legal and legitimate: “All of the earth belongs to G-d. He created it [the Land of Israel], and gave it to whomever He saw fit. By His will He gave it to them, and by His will He took it from them and gave it to us.” Moreover, even nations that descended from Avraham and Yitzchak, who might consider themselves equal heirs to the land that G-d promised to the forefathers, would have no legal claim. As Bnei Yisrael would (eventually) tell the Edomites, the descendants of Eisav: “You have no right to contest our inheritance of the Land of Israel, since you did not pay the debt [of exile that was decreed upon Avraham’s heirs]” (Rashi, Bamidbar 20:17).
Even with the legal issue settled, however, Bnei Yisrael might have been concerned that the nations living in the Land would not willingly abandon their homes without a fight. G-d therefore reassured them, “I have given the Land before you,” in this aspect as well. “You will not need to go to war,” for the nations will leave on their own, and you will take possession of the Land unopposed.

Master Post of my Lisa Cuddy’s timeline / portrayal for her main verse. More for my own reference and sanity, but good if you’re curious on more details and want to plot something!
February 18, 1968: Born to Arlene and Avraham Cuddy in Englewood, NJ.
April 1970: Younger sister, Julia, is born.
December 1980: Her father Avraham passes away in the hospital after an Addisonian crisis leads to hypotension and multiple organ failure.
Lisa decides to become a doctor after this, and later chooses endocrinology as her specialty.
1985: Lisa graduates high school, and is accepted into the University of Michigan for pre medicine in the fall. She moves out of her childhood home and lives on campus.
1987: Lisa meets Gregory House while he is working at the University bookstore and has been expelled from John’s Hopkins. The two end up seeing each other around campus often and going to a couple of the same parties. They eventually sleep together once for experimentations sake, but their relationship does not progress into romance, as Lisa is gay, and does not hold romantic feelings for him. He eventually leaves the University.
1989: Lisa graduates from University of Michigan in June. She is accepted into Icahn School Of Medicine at Mount Sinai (in New York) for her medical doctorate.
1990: Lisa begins at Icahn in the spring.
1994: Lisa graduates medical school second in her class in June, and begins her residency in Internal Medicine after passing her USMLE for the state of New Jersey (she decides to practice there after hearing that Princeton is expanding on their new Teaching Hospital, and that one of her old professors is on the Board there).
1997: Lisa begins her fellowship at Princeton Plainsboro in endocrinology. She also joins the Board, receiving endorsement from her previous Icahn professor in professional excellence and leadership.
In the summer, Gregory House winds up at PPtH with his girlfriend at the time, Stacy. After a series of previous doctors misdiagnose a muscle infarction in his leg, Lisa takes over the case, caring deeply for his wellbeing. Being fresh out of medical school and still in fellowship she is also an excellent doctor and thrives with innovative technique. She takes over the case. Together she and Stacy decide on the “middle ground” option for his leg, fearing he will die of the pain of muscle death. House leaves the hospital alive, but in chronic pain for the rest of his life.
1999: Lisa completes her fellowship and becomes Head Endocrinologist, albeit briefly— she is only one of two practicing in the area and in high demand.
In October, the current Dean retires and Lisa is offered the Chief of Medicine position after she successfully formulates a strategic budget plan that cuts administrative costs, utilizes a percentage of student tuitions and relies heavily on donations and presents it to the Board. Without her plan, a large amount of heads would have been cut. Lisa saves all jobs and does some re organization of heads. They are impressed with her reliable work ethic and cost effective strategies and when the current Dean retires, Lisa becomes the second youngest, first woman ever in the country to hold the position.
2000: As part of her plan to make the hospital more marketable and keen on innovative medicine, Lisa creates a diagnostics department for difficult cases and hires Gregory House as the head. She also offers enough budget to hire three reports. House accepts, as he is unable to find a job anywhere else, being too destructive and unethical.
2004-mid 2005: season 1 of the show. All events are canon for my portrayal of Lisa throughout, with the exception that she is a lesbian and only dates women.
2005: season 2. My portrayal of Lisa becomes canon divergent around episode 2x22 and 2x23. The remainder does not follow show canon, but uses elements loosely from it.
Lisa decides to undergo IVF in order to become pregnant in May. She chooses a donor and is set to begin fertility treatments when Dr. Allison Cameron overhears a phone conversation she is having with her sister about it.
Instead of Dr. House (as is in show canon) helping Lisa with the injections, she asks Allison Cameron, who accepts.
Lisa has three separate IVF implantations throughout the year and Allison continues to support and help her. The first two fail and never take. The third one succeeds and Lisa becomes pregnant in October of 2005. Unfortunately she miscarries at the beginning of December at 10 weeks.
Allison, being worried about her after she is missing from work for two days and has fallen out of touch, drives to her home. Lisa invites her inside and confesses to her what has happened. The two share a kiss, but Cameron does not stay.
2006: Lisa, having recovered and returning to work, falls out of touch with Allison for a few weeks, not knowing how to handle. She confesses to Wilson the kiss and she is encouraged to pursue her.
Allison approaches Lisa, expressing frustration at their sudden distance. Lisa responds by asking her out. The two begin dating.
2008: Allison and Lisa become engaged, and are married in September.
2010: Deciding to try again for a child, Lisa and Allison approach House and ask him to be a donor. He accepts, and Lisa undergoes IVF again. It is successful the first time this round.
Lisa gives birth to a son at the beginning of December. They name him Avraham, Avi for short, after Lisa’s father. She is 42.

ו 'No asesinarás. ז 'No cometerás adulterio. ח 'No robarás.
No tengo ningún demonio.
¡Shabbat Shalom!

this week’s message from The Temple Institute in Jerusalem that points to a sacred marriage proposal:
"I am HaShem"
(Exodus 20:2)
Shevat 19, 5782/January 21, 2022
Mount Sinai! The giving (and receiving) of Torah! The Ten Commandments! Having wreaked havoc on Egypt, humiliating Pharaoh, delivering Israel from slavery, splitting the Sea of Reeds, drowning the Egyptian army while placing Israel safely on dry land, rescuing Israel from thirst in the barren desert and providing Israel with nourishment in the form of manna, delivered fresh daily from G-d's table, HaShem is ready, anxious, in fact, to seal the deal. G-d wants to formalize His relationship with the newborn nation of Israel. G-d wants to marry His best intentions for mankind with the children of Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov, a rugged people who, despite their already frequent complaints, have actually stood the test of G-d's demands upon them, up to this point.
G-d, in preparation for His revelation at Sinai, which was, in effect, a marriage proposal to Israel, pulls out all the stops. Thunder, lightning, quaking earth, smoke and fire at Sinai's peak, the blasting of unseen shofarot (rams' horns): it doesn't get more dramatic than this. And in the middle of this heavenly orchestrated cacophony G-d's very Presence descends upon Mount Sinai. G-d is standing, as it were, front and center, before Israel.
Why all the drama? Why all the supernatural effects? G-d has already made it clear to Israel that He, and He alone, is in charge. He made short shrift of Pharaoh, toying with him, crushing him. He did the same with Pharaoh's fabled legions, and He upended the very laws of nature that He, Himself established, opening a dry path in the sea, and delivering Israel to safety and her first taste of physical freedom. And as for the thirsty and hungry runaway slaves? Food and drinks are on G-d! So what does G-d have to prove by all the pyrotechnics at Sinai?
G-d is courting Israel. He has been courting Israel since He first sent Moshe back to Egypt to confront Pharaoh, saying "Let My people go, so that they may celebrate with Me in the wilderness." (Exodus 5:1) This is the moment He has been waiting for, and G-d wants to make the most out of it. Israel, grateful as she may be for all that G-d has done on her behalf, has not yet committed herself to G-d. And one thing that G-d has acquired over the twenty-six generations of mankind that have led up to this moment, is that man is unpredictable. Who could have suspected that Adam would risk an eternity in Eden for the taste of a stolen apple? Who could have foreseen the darkness in Cain's heart, which led to the murder of his brother? Yes, G-d is all-knowing, but with a caveat, a necessary self-imposed limitation on His foreknowledge, for the purpose of allowing man freedom of action. So returning to Mount Sinai, G-d is doing everything in His power to insure an uninhibited, unhesitant, full throated "We do!" from Israel, when He poses the Ten Commandments. The one thing G-d has learned for certain from His relationship with man, is that He can never be certain. So G-d has delivered Himself to Israel here at Sinai, descending from His celestial throne, and drawing as near as is G-dly possible, to Israel.
And then, smack in the middle of the highly orchestrated, and increasingly tense and dramatic buildup to His revelation before Israel, we are told, "HaShem descended upon Mount Sinai, to the peak of the mountain, and HaShem summoned Moshe to the peak of the mountain, and Moshe ascended. HaShem said to Moshe, 'Go down, warn the people lest they break their formation to go nearer to HaShem, to see, and many of them will fall. And also, the kohanim who go near to HaShem shall prepare themselves, lest HaShem wreak destruction upon them.' And Moshe said to HaShem, 'The people cannot ascend to Mount Sinai, for You warned us saying, Set boundaries for the mountain and sanctify it.'" (Exodus 19:20-23)
What just happened? What Moshe told G-d is true. He had already warned Israel to keep a safe distance, and Israel had already taken the proper precautions. It is completely out of character for G-d to repeat Himself. Is He having a senior moment? Hardly! Was G-d exhibiting a stutter, just as Moshe had? Preposterous! G-d is doing what any loving parent, spouse, son, daughter, brother or sister would do in a situation of potential peril for a loved one: G-d is showing loving concern for the welfare of the people with whom He hopes to tie an eternal bond. Forget for a moment the lightning and thunder, the smoke and fire and all the other special effects. G-d loves Israel and only wants what's best for her. So if G-d repeats Himself, restating what He has already stated, He is doing so for a conscious purpose: to make certain that no one gets hurt.
G-d delivered Israel from Egypt without incurring a single Israelite casualty, not on the night of the Passover offering, and not at the Sea of Reeds. Not a single Israelite died of thirst or of hunger. And now G-d is making certain, even doubly certain, that the earth shaking majesty of His own irreducible Presence will not cause any inadvertent harm to Israel. The grand firework display at Sinai was not G-d's way of impressing or intimidating Israel. G-d was not intending to present Israel with a covenant she can't refuse out of fear for her safety. The trembling earth and fiery sky at Sinai was nature's response to the incredible nearness of G-d's Infinite Presence. And G-d's greatest concern in the unprecedented whirlwind of events was that no soul of the children of Israel should be harmed. It was only then, after G-d repeated his earlier warning, that He proceeded to state His humanity changing 'will you marry Me' to Israel: "I am HaShem, your G-d, Who took you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage." (ibid 20:2)
Until this point Israel has witnessed G-d's devastating power, the wrath of His justice, and the flaring of His impatience when Israel seems to be short on gratitude. G-d is all powerful and terrifying, and, in fact, the people plea to Moshe to continue G-d's dialogue with them as an intermediary, fearing G-d's nearness. Israel has not yet witnessed the face of G-d's compassion, His long suffering, His loving kindness and forgiveness. That is all to come. But G-d, by doing the 'unG-dly' thing of anxiously repeating His concern for His children's safety, revealed to Israel, if just for a moment, His eternal love and regard for Israel's well-being. This was a revelation no less crucial than the revelation that followed in its immediate stead. Only after having divulged His concern that His Own Presence wouldn't be an insurmountable obstacle in His relationship with Israel did G-d make His proposal. And Israel's response? "You had me at 'I am HaShem!'"
