GALTx eNews: Kristina Is Running For The Hounds!
Kristina dreamed of adopting a Greyhound for years. Last summer, she and her partner, Doug, finally agreed the time was right. They submitted their application to the local adoption group, GALT New Mexico. Their family already included a rescue dog, Grete, and a rescue cat, Tommy, so they prepared for a long wait for a cat safe hound to come their way.
To help pass the time, Kristina decided to help the hounds by running a marathon as a fundraiser for GALT. She has been training hard and will run in the Eugene marathon on Sunday, April 28, 2024. She has run several shorter races, but this will only be her fifth marathon! Kristina says she isn’t all that fast at 62 years young, but she still loves running! It’s a shared love in the family, and Doug will join her for the half marathon.
Meanwhile, long-time Greyhound adoption volunteers in Arizona came together to launch GALT Arizona. As luck would have it, one of the group’s first deliveries from Australia included a cat safe hound, Oisin. Oisin wasn’t originally scheduled to make the flight from Australia at all. He was a last minute substitute for another hound. But that little bit of luck was all he needed. GALT Arizona and GALT New Mexico worked together to bring Oisin to his new family. Kristina and Doug picked him up on March 30th!
Oisin will now be known as Pre, named after legendary American runner Steve Prefontaine. Pre is adjusting well to his new home and is already much loved. Please help us cheer Kristina on as she races to help the hounds and help us welcome Pre to his new forever home with a gift to Kristina’s Facebook fundraiser. If you prefer not to give on Facebook, you can give on our website. Just mention it is in support of Kristina’s marathon in your comments. Thanks to Kristina and all who give!

As of now Australia is the fastest moving continent of the planet, going northwards at around 9 cm a year. This rapid movement allowed the Australian ecosystems to shift, thanks also to a wetter and hotter climate.
The dry outback will be greatly reduced, with the shrubland now relegated to just the southwest and the Gibson desert, now replaced by the wetter savannah, while the north and the northeast will be covered in monsoon forests and rainforests, similar to those in Papua New Guinea.
This new landscape will result in a much more varied and diverse landscape, comparable to Africa.
Tumblr media
Like in rest of the world the main rainforest trees are bamboo, while dry forests are mostly eucalyptus. On and around these trees lives a great variety of life, including tree-kangaroos, folivorous and frugivorous parrots, birds-of-paradise, echidnas, possums and gliders. The higher trophic levels are occupied by Dasyuromorphs, such as the Leopard quoll (Cyrtonyx pardus), the apex predator of the continent’s forests, and the raccoon like Queensland devil (Bambusarcotherium queenslandi), one of the smallest member of an extremely successful lineage descended from Tasmanian devils reintroduced to the mainland.
Tumblr media
Other sarcophilids include the bear-like semiarboreal great glutton (Thylacarctos galactostethus), who’s also the Queensland devil’s closest relative, the pouch hound (Tachythylacoides macropodarium), a specialised cursorial predator that reaches speeds higher than a greyhound, the toothy badger (Hyaenomeles cynicus), a medium sized scavenger and occasional hunter, and the savannah’s apex predator, the sabertooth demon (Thylacobellator deinodon), that wrestles its prey to the ground and rips its throat out.
This predator diversity, similar to that of Africa, is only possible thanks to the great diversity in herbivores, who mostly come from three different lineages: macropods, wombats and, surprisingly, donkeys, being the last surviving perissodactyls of our world.
Tumblr media
Although in the Pleistocene there were browsing walking kangaroos, in this epoch their niche will be taken by donkeys, some of whom will come to resemble modern day giraffes, tho most of them will remain fairly similar to their ancestors.
Among them there’s also the first hippo analogue of the continent: the Aussie kelpie or water horse.
Wombats will take the route of their extinct relatives, becoming heavy grazers, while macropods will mostly remain as they are right now, except for some derived wallaroos (the tapiroos), that became faster, to better run from the pouch hounds, shortened their arms, in a similar fashion to abelisaurids, and developed a trunk, in order to cope with their arms, now unable to help them in foraging.

idly, do you keep records of which breeds' stickers sell best? I'm curious to know if there are any trends or incentives there. Do some sell better at in person shows and some sell better on the internet?
Pls feel free to ignore it if the question is weird or makes you feel uncomfortable, though! I'm just mildly curious to know what breeds are thirstiest for merch
Ok so the online Beauceron community has been essentially paying my bills for months. Probably my most sold dog breed sticker (them and aussies I sell the most of)and my most commissioned dog breed. Idk why. I shan’t question it. All hail the beauceron
My most sold sticker is the reactive asshole design I think. Crusty white dogs has sold a few too
There are several that haven’t sold at all lol (chows, Irish terrier, Japanese akitas, Italian greyhounds)

Y'all mfs b saying Vash is the golden retriever NO HE FUCKEN AINT
That man is a SUPER SIZED SHORT HAIRED AUSTRALIAN FUVKING SHEPHARD
Yk w h y
Excitable, loyal to a fucking fault, herds ppl, and simultaneously the dumbest and smartest thing you'll ever meet
And on this train of thought, if not an Aussie he's a goddamn Irish wolfhound but lemon flavored. Or, if I'm feeling spicy, maybe a greyhound, because he totally could outrun literally everyone on the planet. He also has the build of one.

You know I give my family some crap for how badly behaved all of our dogs have been but it’s really just the last two who are exceptionally badly behaved
Border collie who completely normal and well behaved. Sometimes barked at people passing the house.
Our greyhound was grumpy and didn’t like people who weren’t my mom, but he’d just half-growl (more of a frustrated moan) and get up and go to the corner or another room. Like an anti social old man.
Lab-spaniel who killed a bird one time when she was young but liked people and got on well with them and the other dogs. Followed bad example of next dog as pack-leader. Ripped up toys as a puppy
(BAD) Lab with an awful bark who liked to carry things around to be chased (socks, toys, etc.). Very frustrating. Barked a lot and had a horrible bark. Grumpy and didn’t really like being cuddled or anything. Would not play fetch. Had an insane hunting-instinct and killed anything that got into the yard except the snapping turtle that scared her by not moving and then barely moving. Would try to chew shiny ball Christmas ornaments and then drop them and bolt to the other side of the room when they “bit” her. Would slowly investigate them, tapping them with her foot and running away to see if they’d bite her again. Could bunnyhop a 3.5 foot fence and killed the neighbor’s chickens once. Taught the spaniel how to jump the fence as well. Was basically fine once we got the invisible fence. Rabbits eventually returned to the yard. Liked to drop bones on hardwood floors and down the stairs. Peed incessantly in the baby pool.
Lab with less ear piercing bark but who barks at everything constantly. No hunting instinct at all. Once accidentally tortured a toad she found by following it around the yard and pawing at it to watch it hop. Only dog to defeat the spray bottle method because she just loves water that much. Also defeated the invisible fence because she has the pain tolerance of a Roman god and loves running across the street to lay down and say hello to everyone she sees. Obviously it’s understandable to be nervous or scared of a dog you see running at you but I swear to god I can’t believe how good she is with strangers she isn’t running AT them to like jump or bark she gets like right up next to them and just drops to the ground to show how friendly she is and that she wants belly rubs. I’ve chased after her and watched the confusion in people’s faces as they prepare/brace for this dog to at least bark at or jump on them but she’s weirdly respectful of personal space. Like she’s doing a bit. Wags constantly and knocks things over as a result. Has trained my dad to give her fresh meat in the morning by barking. Would recognize an intruder as a friend. LOVES walks.
(EVIL) lab-setter mix who used to bait people into petting her so she could bite them. Got her as a puppy and she would sit in my lap and lick my face and then BITE by nose hard. Terrified of ear drops. Likes to chase squirrels but no interest in catching them. Hoards toys during fetch hiding them in a bush. Will interrupt other dogs playing fetch to steal and hide the toys in the same bush. Attacks other dogs unprovoked. Stole soup out of my bowl!!!!! Will walk into a room and sit with person A to be pet while making unbreaking eye contact with person B so they know she’s ignoring them. Has to be muzzled. Weirdly good with kids and puppies. Jumps on tables and counters dead-quietly to eat food. Will learn who does and doesn’t scold her for what rules and will break whatever rules she believes she will get away with.
(NOT GOOD) Aussie-Pyrenees (looks NOTHING like a Pyrenees and runs small for an Aussie) LOVES to be cuddled. Has TERRIBLE memory growled at me the first dozen times I visited or so before remembering that we lived together for a few months and that she’s seen me many many times. Easily confused and overwhelmed by other dogs. Growls at people and then runs away and hides under a table. Sometimes nips at ankles. Sometimes backs up the setter in fights against the lab. Kills butterflies. Took forever to house break. HATES walks. HATES the car. HATES the leash. Will bite and pee on it. Jumps. One time ripped the squeaker out of a toy with surgical precision.

Were Reiner to have a dog, he'd certainly got himself a tiny dog. Say, something like Italian Greyhound. An elegant creature, so delicate you'd think the slightest gust of wind would blow it away. So miniature that Reiner could easily carry it around in one hand.
Reiner would spoil the dog rotten. That'd be his baby, alright. Always carrying it around with him, or else the doggo will get lonely and start crying. Buying heaps of clothes for the colder weather (which for the dog is almost every time of the year) and the cute booties so that the paws would stay warm. Reiner wouldn't let his baby near store bought dog food after reading it's not sufficient nutrition so all the meals for the dog would be home-cooked, the check for the dog food sometimes exceeding Reiner's own. Dog parks would be a big no-no for Reiner - they are just too dangerous and the other big dogs can harm his baby so Reiner makes sure that only small dogs play with his little one.
Annie is a different story, though. She'd have a big dog half her size, a massive (at least in comparison to Annie's small stature) energetic beast. Think of Australian Shepherd. Annie chose it not only because of the agility the dog has but also because of its quiet demeanor, rarely disturbing the silence (much valued by Annie) with barking.
Annie and her dog would have jolly time training together. Trying to let out all the energy her dog has (which is abundant), there's no activity that Annie hasn't tried, from swimming together to hiking. And the cuddling sessions after a work out would be just great since the dog is so fluffy and warm. Annie would love to hug her dog and her clothes consequently would be littered with fur and at this point she can't be bothered to remove it because they would be covered in fur no matter what.
What a sight it'd be though to see both Reiner and Annie walking their dogs together. Reiner with his large frame holding his miniature greyhound and smol Annie near her Aussie (its head reaching her hips), sometimes being pulled forward by the leash whenever the dog would get to excited and run off

GALTx eNews: Welcome To The Sweet Seven!
We recently welcomed seven more Aussie hounds! This time, all of them are girls. They have some fun names too: Devine, Dolly, Dot, Barbie, Jan, Missi, and Peewee. Devine, Barbie (pictured), and Jan do not have any races to their credit, but everyone else raced at least a few races. Dot is the youngest. She just turned two in January. Dolly is the oldest. She will turn four on May 25th. Three of them are shades of fawn and four are shades of black. All of them are 100% wonderful and will make seven "Greyt" pets for lucky families!
But here's the thing: before we can send them off to forever homes, we need to get to know them a little better in foster homes. All of our foster homes are currently full, so they might have a bit of a wait. If you live near Dallas/Ft. Worth and have a spare corner for another dog bed, you can help them along their way by volunteering to be a foster family. It's temporary (just until the right forever family is found) and quite rewarding. Please email [email protected] with any questions. Keep in mind that "foster failing" is always an option.
We can't wait to share more photos of them in social media and to share their adoption stories with you. In the meantime, if you can't foster, you can still be a part of their journey by helping to pay their bills while they are in boarding with a gift to our House A Hound Fund. Thank you!

Life is slowly settling into a brand new normal after rescuing a puppy. If you’ve ever brought a puppy into your life then you know… they shake up EVERYTHING. And this dude came in like racehorse. His name is Remi, he’s now 10 months old and he’s my new giant shadow. We adopted him from a local rescue who took him in from a high kill shelter. He’s a tall, long, lanky boy and everyone’s best guess on breed is a Greyhound+Black Labrador mix...aka Greyador He’s opened up and grown so much since we first met him. He adores our aussie Marley and sticks to her like glue. He also loves couch time and snuggles and belly rubs…. And getting that long nose of his into ALL the things as he gallops about the house. When I’m working and creating, he slides under the table so he can nap at my feet… with a nose or paw always touching. We’ve both got a lot of learning to do but life definitely feels brighter with this new life bouncing in.

It's a curious thought that some of my art is so good it's attracting bots. They've latched on to a ocuple of the pictures on my art blog and I've flagged them.
Now, if you can't handle that video of a tiny, by borzoi standards, pupper saying 'fuck you' then you can't handle an adult snoot. You should also have adequate space and finances to care for 100 pounds of hairy dog. Whippets and Italian greyhounds also count as snoots but in a more compact size. We've been wanting an Italian greyhound for years.
But if you can't imagine loving a dog that says fuck you then look for something else.
And I know Bluey is taking off but don't rush out and buy a Heeler or an Aussie unless you want something that herds, does farm work, and needs a "job" to feel normal.
Tumblr media
I'm mostly Great Dane but the Aussie and Boarder Collie in me is so strong I taught myself how to escape the nest before I had teeth. I went to live with someone who needed a companion and guard dog and probably taught myself a lot of things they teach service dogs. If mom didn't have a thing against boy dogs I would have been the one they kept to train.
Tumblr media
I was the one they kept and I tried. I know you want me to sit but I want to give you my belly and mantis sticks.
something something You can get a mutt that looks enough like a Heeler and will make a great dog something something

Wolf girl with you guide
Tumblr media
I fell in love with Anh’s writing when I discovered his WeirDo series on the shelf of my local library a couple of years ago. Gwen still doesn’t know what happened to her human family but she’s determined to find out. Eagle was my little sister, and Puppy was my best friend. Over time this unlikely group become family, protecting one another and hunting together. Along the way we also meet Brutus, a strong black mastiff, and Eagle. Zip, a greyhound, who’s fast, but clumsy as a result of his diminished vision. Nosey, a labrador, who is patient and smart. She has golden-yellow fur and turquoise eyes. Puppy, a courageous wolf with a black patch on her forehead in the shape of a diamond. While Gwen can’t find any other people she does wind up meeting some animals that are just as alone as she is: She winds up alone in a forest in the middle of the night. It isn’t long before she is separated from her mother, father and her big sister, Kate, who just turned eleven. Gwen doesn’t know where they’re headed or what’s going on, only that something big and scary is happening. Her school backpack is crammed with food and the rest of her family are rushing to pack what they can in their car before they leave. He’s one of my favourite authors! Happy dance time!!! Gwen is awoken in the middle of the night. It isn’t long before she is s Before I tell you anything else, you need to know that I am beyond excited to finally have a signed copy of one of Anh’s books. But where were all the humans? What had happened?Įnding with a cliff hanger means I’ll be picking up the next as soon as I can! Fun, entertaining, and highly recommended to all ages 😉īefore I tell you anything else, you need to know that I am beyond excited to finally have a signed copy of one of Anh’s books. Gradually with her animal friends by her side, Gwen managed to survive. And when those animals showed they wanted to help Gwen to be friends, she thought she was asleep – dreaming. The unexpected arrival of a wolf puppy, a Labrador, a Chihuahua, and a greyhound would have made most people nervous, but not Gwen. But later, an exhausted Gwen realized she was lost and there was no sign of her Mum, Dad and sister there were no others around at all. When their car and lots of others could go no further, Dad and Mum told Gwen to run and not look back they would follow. Gwen and her older sister Kate were rushed from their beds to the car by their Mum and Dad, the urgency of their flight registering on normally calm faces. I read it in one sitting last night and absolutely loved it can’t wait for #2, Wolf Girl: The Great Escape, which publishes early December 2019.
