Okay bonus bc you asked for Christmas/winter break ideas! What about Oscar taking Lando & reader to experience and Aussie Christmas and they’re just on the beach and bbq-ing etc and they can’t get over how different it is from uk Christmas’s 🤣
Tumblr media
"Okay so we're starting at mine with my family, mum will do the traditional roast and then we do a family walk on the beach. And then we head off to Landos for a second round of British Christmas and then, by the end of the week, we're off to Australia for Oscar to give us the traditional Australian Christmas. Sound like a plan?" Asked Y/N as she flipped through her diary, laying the plan out before her boyfriends.
"Sounds good to me, baby," said Lando as he leaned back in his seat.
Oscar took a moment to look through Y/Ns plan. "This is a lot of travelling. Are you guys sure you're okay with that?"
They nodded their heads as they looked at their Australian. "Definitely, Osc. I seriously can't wait to experience my first Australian Christmas," Y/N said as she wrapped her arms around him. She ran his hands through his hair, pushing it away from his face and used it to tip his head back and give him a quick kiss.
First they had to get through Y/Ns British Christmas. Her family wasn't very understanding of their relationship, and it had taken a good year but they'd gotten used to it now. Now they said nothing, Y/N father would just give them funny looks. They had the roast dinners Y/Ns mother prepared and took her nieces and newphews on a rather cold beach walk. All three of them were wrapped up warm, with Lando and Oscar wearing their Mclaren caps.
And then it was off to Lando's. His Christmas was much the same as Y/Ns, but his family nicer and they didn't do a freezing cold beach walk.
And then they were jetting off for Australian Christmas and New year's. The light was long, with Y/N napping against Lando as he and Oscar watched a movie (but, in no time at all, they were sleeping too, the three of them all laying against each other).
Things were hot when they landed, not like they had been in England. Oscar was so excited to take Y/N and Lando to his parents. They'd met his mum during the season (and she loved the two of them) but they hadn't yet been to his place in Australia.
On the first night they had a seafood barbecue. Only half of thr barbecue had fish, the other had was regular (because they had fussy britches with them). Oscar had on his shorts and flip flops (or thongs) on as he barbecued, showing off his skills. "Looking good, Osc," Lando grinned as he watched him, sweating as he slaved over the barbecue.
Oscar blushed red as Y/N and Lando grinned at him.
The next day, Christmas day, they went for a swim. The water was lovely as Y/N, Lando and Oscar swam in the Australian sea. It was wonderfully refreshing, considering Lando and Y/N would usually be in their pyjamas, wrapped up warm under blankets as they drank hot chocolate.
There was backyard cricket and a traditional Christmas dinner. Barbecue, cold ham and turkey, potato bake and alcohol. They had pavlova and trifle with beer to top it off.
At the end of the night, Lando, Y/N and Oscar sat on the beach, staring out at the seas. It was the first time they'd managed to be alone since arriving in the land down under. "How have you guys enjoyed your first aussie Christmas?" Oscar asked, his arms wrapped around them.
"Absolutely loved it," Y/N said as she dug her toes into the sand.
"It was brilliant, Osc. Thank you," lando said and kissed him.

State fair blogging as I pause for Pork Belly Onna Stick:
Tumblr media
It had Korean BBQ on it. Amazing.
We're minimizing livestock barns this year because @coffee-mage-sans-caffeine 's lungs are still sad from COVID, but they had Brabant horses and TWO Standardbreds at the horse barn and the pet pavilion had Schipperke and Puli as well as the GSD, Aussies, and Goldens I was honestly kind of meh on.
Watched a little dock diving exhibition between the dog shows on our way down. I'm hoping we can catch the disc exhibition
The MN State Fair has one of the biggest draft horse shows on the continent, so I got to see all manner of Clydes and Belgians and Perches in the stalls too while I was at it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also hit up the "Miracle of Birth" display, where you can watch livestock from a wide range of species either being newly born or giving birth. It's a really cool way to see things and it gives a ton of experience to vet students, who handle the babies, monitor the births, and show things off to fairgoers.
Next up: the "all the fresh milk you can drink for $2" booth. Mmmm.

Okay Imma have a little rant about how foreigners view Australians right here.
so if you want some entertainment then go right on ahead and read this :)
So I've got an atlas for kids from when I was little, and I will forever be annoyed about what was written in there. So here we go (what the book says versus reality)
what to say: beaut, beauty, bonzer, ripper (they all mean good in australian english)
first of all, what. I have never heard an australian say any of these words except for in aussie christmas songs (because they poke fun of the aussie accent). Do not say any of these words unless you want to look like an "australian" in hollywood. (and even if we did say bonzer, it's spelt bonza)
2. What not to say: why don't you have corks on your hat?
yeah that would be weird to ask. But also dont say any of what they suggested in 1. Do not say that, it is weird.
3. Infamous for: Ned Kelly
Sure, he's infamous here. But how about the actually important things???? We are more than just guys in homemade armour getting shot in legs.
4. Dangerous Animals: Loads! Sharks, Poisonous spiders, snakes, kangaroos.
Okay this is fair. However, the main reason we get bitten by sharks more is because we are in the water more. You would be too if it was 40 degrees out (104 Fahrenheit). Yeah we have poisonous spiders (technically they're venomous atlas), but I'd rather hope you wouldn't touch one any way. You see one, you spray it with bug spray. simple. Snakes, yeah I've seen a few. Kangaroos are chill if you keep your distance and for the love of god do not let your dog follow them into the water they will hold it under until it drowns.
5. Sports: Australian Rules Football, Surfing.
Fair.
6. Job: Bush ranger
I have so many things to say about this. Do people think we run around like ned kelly shooting things???? Do people not realize majority of us live in cities??? I don't even think Bush Rangers exist anymore.
7. Hobby: going walkabout.
Majority of australians do call it "going walkabout". You go for a walk. And we have the same hobbies as other countries???
8. Food: meat pies, vegemite.
Aren't meat pies british??? The most iconic aussie thing to eat is a barbeque, is it not? (yes we call it a barbie sometimes). Yes some of us eat vegemite. A thin amount spread on toast. Not a spoonful.
On the subject of bbq's, WE DO NOT SAY SHRIMP ON THE BARBIE.
SHRIMP DO NOT EXIST IN AUSTRALIA AS FAR AS I AM AWARE. WE HAVE PRAWNS. THEY ARE DIFFERENT.
Here is a guide:
Tumblr media
do some people put them on the barbie?? most people I know buy pre cooked ones from the supermarket, but I don't see why you couldn't put them on the bbq.
Other things people believe about aussies:
we do call people mate, actually
we do say "she'll be right"
no we do not call women "sheila"
an extremely aussie accent is called "occa" (ocka). It's mostly what you hear us sound like in american media, but some of us do sound like that.
we do sleep in swags sometimes. when we are camping.
not all of us are ridiculously outdoorsy. In fact, majority aren't. I know i'm not.
We swear every two seconds. It's just how it is. It actually confused me when I want to america and no-one swore at all.
sometimes we say g'day. Mostly around foreigners, when the aussie is turned up 100%, but we do sometimes say it to eachother. Mainly we say hi and hello though.
Apparently people think we drink fosters??? I don't even know what fosters is?? I think it's a beer??? It's not a common thing.
It does actually snow here some places
not all spiders will kill you. Most are just chillin
Idk if you know what a shoey is, but not all australians do that. It's kinda gross
You will see kangaroos roaming around, unless you are in the middle of the city. Do not approach them, for the love of god.
koalas are only over east, and I've only seen a dingo once. It was dead :|
Yeah. So. That was a rant from a slightly annoyed aussie.
Ah well, She'll be right.
G'day mate (lol)
but y'know, everyone's experiences are different. maybe somewhere in australia, women are called sheilas.

The Road Less Stressed: Navigating Interstate Car Transport from Gold Coast to Townsville
So, you're thinking about hauling your four-wheeled pride and joy from the glittering shores of the Interstate Car Transport Gold Coast to Townsville. Good on ya, mate! But let's not kid ourselves – the road can be a bit of a headache. Fear not, though; we're diving into the nitty-gritty of interstate car transport, and I promise you won't be bored to tears.
Buckle Up, Buttercup
Before you get all revved up, let's talk prep. Think of it as a pit stop before the real race begins. Clean out the car – no one wants to discover a rogue french fry wedged between the seats three weeks later. Snap some pics – evidence is your insurance against "It was like that when I gave it to you!" disputes.
Choosing Your Transporter: More Important Than Picking Your Footy Team
Now, when it comes to choosing the right transporter, it's not as easy as picking a favorite footy team. This is a decision that can make or break your interstate car transport experience. Check reviews like your life depends on it (well, maybe not your life, but definitely your car's well-being).
Pro Tip: Don't just look at the stars; read the reviews. It's like eavesdropping on juicy pub gossip, but about car transporters.
The Art of the Quote
Get ready for a quote-a-palooza! It's like comparing sausage sizzles at the local Bunnings. Remember, the cheapest isn't always the best – unless you're into low-budget horror stories.
Quick Fact: Good quotes are like Vegemite – an acquired taste, but once you find the right one, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.
Timing is Everything
Timing, my friend, is the unsung hero of car transport. Book early – the same way you snag the last snag at a BBQ. Waiting until the last minute is like trying to get tickets to the Grand Final; you might end up watching from the nosebleeds.
True Story: The early bird gets the worm, or in this case, the prime spot on the transporter.
The Dance of the Paperwork
Paperwork – the adult version of a boogie on the dance floor. Be on top of your game; it's not a waltz, it's a tango. Titles, insurance, and all those other official bits – they're your dance partners, so make sure you lead.
Tracking, Not Stalking
Once your baby's on the move, resist the urge to be a helicopter parent. Tracking is encouraged, but stalking is not a good look. Embrace the beauty of updates – it's like getting postcards from your car's road trip.
Fun Fact: GPS tracking is the modern-day equivalent of the carrier pigeon. No birds involved, but equally reliable.
Trust Your Gut, Not Just Siri
Let's talk trust. Your gut feeling is your sixth sense – the one that's not guided by Siri. If something feels off, investigate. Don't be that person who ignores the weird noise their car makes until it breaks down in the middle of nowhere.
Bonus Tip: A gut feeling is like a kangaroo crossing sign – pay attention, or you might end up in a wild situation.
It's a Wrap, Not a Sunday Roast
Unwrapping your car is the grand finale. It's like peeling off the layers of a Sunday roast, only without the gravy. Inspect it like a detective – flashlight and magnifying glass optional, but highly recommended.
Reminder: This is the moment of truth; don't be shy to channel your inner Sherlock Holmes.
The Aftermath: More Than Just Regret
Finally, the aftermath. Hopefully, no regrets here – just a happy reunion with your wheels. Leave a review, tell your mates about your epic car transport adventure, and bask in the glory of a job well done.
Last Word: The road less stressed is paved with good decisions and a sprinkle of Aussie wisdom. Now go, conquer that interstate journey like you're on a ute in the Outback – pedal to the metal, but with finesse.

How To Prepare For A Cool Summer Beach Party
Tumblr media
Summer Beach Party: Australia has four seasons and summer gets hotter in December, January and February. Numbers of amazing beaches, seafoods and aquatic life keeps Aussies busy and entertaining even in summer.
And what better way to make the most of the beautiful weather than by throwing a beach party with your friends and family?
Whether you’re a seasoned beach party host or planning your first one, this guide will take you through everything you need to know to throw a successful and memorable summer beach party in Australia.
From choosing the perfect beach location to planning your guest list, preparing your menu, and bringing the essentials, we’ve got you covered. Plus, we’ll share some summer beach party ideas that will keep your guests entertained throughout the day.
So, grab your sunscreen, and let’s get started on creating an unforgettable summer beach party experience in Australia!
Beach Party Location
There are endless beaches but you might prefer one based on your location convenience and other factors. Australia has some of the best beaches in the world, so you’re spoilt for choice. It is essential to ensure that your party is a success.
Look for a beach that is spacious, clean, and has amenities such as toilets, showers, and BBQ facilities. Consider the location and accessibility of the beach, as well as the size and capacity to accommodate your guest list comfortably.
Some of the best beaches for a party in Australia include Bondi Beach, St Kilda Beach, Surfers Paradise Beach, and Byron Bay.
Do your research and choose a beach that suits your needs and will provide the perfect backdrop for a fun and memorable beach party.
Look for a beach that is spacious, clean, and has amenities such as toilets, showers, and BBQ facilities. Some of the best beaches for a party in Australia include Bondi Beach, St Kilda Beach, Surfers Paradise Beach, and Byron Bay.
Drinks
Tumblr media
If you’re hosting a summer beach party in Australia, you’ll want to have a selection of refreshing drinks to keep your guests cool and hydrated. Here are some ideas:
Beer: Beer is a popular choice at any Australian gathering, especially at a beach party. Consider stocking up on a variety of local beers, such as VB, Tooheys New, or XXXX Gold. Keep them chilled in a cooler filled with ice.
Wine: Wine is another excellent option for a beach party, particularly if you’re catering to a more sophisticated crowd. Consider serving crisp, refreshing whites, such as Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio, or fruity rosés.
Cocktails: Nothing screams summer like a fruity cocktail! Some popular beach party cocktails in Australia include Margaritas, Pina Coladas, and Mai Tais. Don’t forget to offer some non-alcoholic options, such as virgin daiquiris or mocktails.
Hydration: Keeping your guests hydrated is crucial, particularly during hot weather. Set up a hydration station with plenty of ice-cold water, coconut water, sports drinks, and electrolyte-enhanced beverages.
Iced Tea: Iced tea is a delicious and refreshing option for those who don’t drink alcohol. Offer a variety of flavors, such as lemon, peach, or mint, to cater to different tastes.
Remember to drink responsibly, stay hydrated, and have fun!
Food
Tumblr media
Hosting a summer beach party in Australia requires delicious food that is easy to prepare, serve and eat while enjoying the sunshine and the waves. Here are some food ideas that will keep your guests happy and satisfied:
BBQ: A classic Australian BBQ is the perfect option for a beach party. Set up a portable grill and serve up some sizzling sausages, burgers, steaks, and seafood like prawns, calamari, or fish.
Salads: A variety of fresh, colorful salads are an ideal complement to the grilled meat. Think crunchy and refreshing salads like Caesar, Greek, or watermelon salad, that can be prepared in advance and served in easy-to-grab containers.
Finger foods: Small bites and finger foods are great options for beach parties, as they are easy to eat and require no utensils. Some ideas include dips with chips, veggie sticks, and crackers, fruit skewers, mini quiches, or sliders.
Fruit platters: A platter of fresh, seasonal fruits is a perfect healthy and refreshing snack option. Cut the fruits into bite-sized pieces for easy snacking.
Ice cream: Nothing beats the heat better than a scoop of ice cream. Set up a make-your-own ice cream bar with various toppings like sprinkles, chocolate sauce, and fruit syrups.
Remember to pack plenty of sunscreen, disposable plates, cutlery, and cups, and keep your food and drinks cool with ice-filled coolers. Most importantly, enjoy the beach party with your guests!
Vape
Vaping is popular in Australia among teen and youths. It’s hot trend for young people. By now every single one of your friends is now a vaper, and majority of your guests are going to bring their own vapes and probably going to share their vapes and favorite flavors with each other.
Set up a vape station because it is almost guaranted that someone will have a leak vape mods or pods, a piece will get misplaced, or that someone will run out of/lose/spill the only vape flavors they have come with.
No problem! You can provide guests peace of mind & create an awesome conversation piece.
Pair some best vape flavors with snacks to give it a different taste. Infact this is the perfect opportunity to spice up your snack table by using your favorite vape flavors as inspiration. It is better to stock some of the vape equipment like vape starter kit Australia and ejuices for the party.
You can consider buying vape wholesale from reputed vape shop online in Australia who stock from local premium liquid labs.
You might also need to take care of some non-vapers who may be – maybe not want to try vaping as well.

Take a trip to South America and try the Asado, a traditional Argentinean-style barbecue. Asado is a social event where friends and family gather to cook meat over an open fire. Beef is the main attraction in an Asado, and it is grilled to perfection, slow and low, for hours. The result is a juicy, tender and flavorful steak that will leave you craving for more.
In Australia, the BBQ is an integral part of their culture and known as the ‘Aussie BBQ’. This style of grilling involves cooking meats, especially sausages and steaks, over an open flame. The heat from the flame sears the meat, locking in the flavors, and creating a delicious charred crust. It's a simple yet effective way of grilling, perfect for a laid-back backyard BBQ with friends and family.

Off season meant spending time with family and travelling to the boys of the NHL. For you and Nico, you were heading to both of your home countries. First stop of the trip was Australia, back to your small coastal hometown. The place where you were born and raised until you decided to go to college in the US.  It was the first time Nico had come home with you. He had met your close family when the NHL had an exhibition game in Melbourne and some of your family came over to meet him but never saw your home.
You had made it to Australia a couple days before. Spending time with your parents in your childhood home while you two acquainted yourselves with the timezone. But by the time the week had finished, you two were back to life. Ready to take on the weekend. Which was good because your mum organised a family barbeque and bonfire to celebrate you being home. Oh and the derby was on. Knowing your parents, everyone was invited.
The weather was great for a winter Saturday. No rain in the last two weeks meaning a dry bonfire pile. Warm in comparison to the ice rinks that Nico felt at home in. Everyone was due to come over just before 2:30 in the afternoon for the start of the footy. Leaving you and Nico to do whatever you want during the morning. You took him around your town, showing home where you grew up. The schools you attended throughout your childhood. Which studio you danced at. You stopped by a beach side cafe to have breakfast. But you were back home before 1 so you could help your mum make food.
When you got back home, your sister and her girlfriend were already there. Music was playing whilst your mother and sister were in the kitchen preparing the food. Tash, Kendall’s girlfriend, was outside helping set up the yard with your father. From what you could see outside the kitchen window were all the plastic chairs around the glass table that your parents had since you were a kid. Actually everyone you knew had the same glass table. And the large pile of branches that were just out past the shed.
“What do you want me to do?” You question as you enter the kitchen.
You mum turned away from the stove, pointing to a bag of groceries sitting on the counter. “Can you make the two cheese boards? You’ve always had a knack for doing those.”
“Yeah, easy.”
“Can I do anything?” Nico asks, hating sitting around while he could be helping.
He got set up cutting up the potatoes for the potato salad your mum always makes for these types of things. You set yourself up on the kitchen island with everything you need. Kendall had put on your parent’s playlist as AC/DC was currently playing. Soon Tash joined you all in the kitchen where she was set up on the salad making station with Kendall.
Kendall came over to your little area, “How was the end of the season?”
“Crazy, still can’t believe the boys actually won the cup!”
Nico laughed, “Honestly, it was all a blur.”
“Yeah because we all got absolutely smashed after the cup game and then for the next week straight.” You got your phone out and pulled up the folder of pictures you had from all the cup stuff. From games to the parade. “God, it was a blast.”
Nico pressed a kiss to your cheek as he walked by you on his way to the fridge. Making you blush bright red which Tash pointed out with a laugh. The conversation stayed on hockey and all the things that had happened during Nico’s playoff run. That was until your Nan walked in with your dad carrying bags of stuff behind her.
“Nan!” You grin, rushing forward to hug her.
The petite woman embraced you tightly. “You look lovely sweetheart.”
“I haven’t even gotten ready yet.”
“Nonsense.” Your Nan looked past you to where Nico was standing beside Kendall. “And you must be Nico. I'm glad we can finally meet.”
Nico was pulled into a hug as well. He stood a whole foot and a half above her. “It’s lovely to meet you. I’ve been told so much about you.”
“Don’t believe all the nice things you hear,” Your mother cuts in, smiling at her mother.
“Don’t let Paul hear you,” Your nan smirks, “your husband loves me.”
“The best mother-in-law I could ask for,” Your dad responds as he comes and kisses your mum’s cheek.
By 2:15, all the food had been prepared. The chips in bowls ready for everyone to arrive. You had retreated into your room so you could change. Just into a pair of simple denim jeans and a singlet. Later, you found a red flannel you had stolen from your dad when you were a teen. Surprisingly it still fit. A pair of thongs were your choice of footwear. Nico kept what he had on from this morning, a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. He wasn’t that cold but he had a hoodie for later in the night.
When the pair of you went outside, your dad handed Nico a beer from the esky while you got handed a glass of Jacks and dry. On the TV was the pregame footy, West Coast vs Fremantle were to play at 2:30. The derby. Kendall and Tash had found their spots around the table with Molly, Kacey and Dan. In Kacey’s arm was your niece, Charlotte who you had yet to meet.
“Oh my god!” You didn’t expect Kacey and Dan to make the trip from the city. Kacey got up and placed the 5 month old in your arms. Charlotte was so cute. “She’s so precious.”
Nico peered over your shoulder at the baby in your arms. He had seen many photos and videos that Kacey and your other two sisters had sent you two but it didn’t do the baby justice.
“Wanna hold her?”
“Sure,” Nico grinned. You gently passed him Char, watching as he stood next to your chair, saying side to side. His eyes fixed on the bub in his arms.
A voice broke over the chatter. “When did my best friend push out a baby? And why was I not informed?”
That made you turn your head quickly to the side gate. Your best friend stood there in all her glory, holding a fridge pack on her arm. You got up quickly running to hug her. It had been months since you had seen her in person and it was about time.
“Nico and I don’t have kids yet,” You tell her as you two moved to the line of eskies against the wall.
“Yet,” she responded with a smirk. “Look at him though, he’s a natural.”
“You want to push a baby out of your vagina?”
You two share a laugh and settle around the table as well. One by one, family and friends rocked up. All hugging you and Nico, happy to meet him for the first time. Everyone had gotten there by 2:25, not willing to miss the first centre bounce of the game. Bowls of chips, different dips and the cheese boards you had prepared were brought out before the game for everyone to snack on.
“We’re an Eagles family, Nico,” Your dad informs Nico as the two take a seat on the other side of you.
Nico laughed, “You’ll have to explain the game to me as we go.”
“Spook hasn’t shown you AFL yet?” The use of your childhood nickname made your siblings laugh.
“We’ve watched it before but I still don’t get it.”
“Main thing is if the ball goes between the centre of the middle two posts, it’s a goal. 6 points, it’s worth. Then between the inner posts and the other posts, it's a behind. 1 point,” Your dad explains.
Centre bounce happened and everyone was cheering. There was a mix of eagles and dockers supporters in attendance. Soon Kennedy was tackled to the ground by one of the Dockers’ players.
“High tackle!” You shouted at the screen. Multiple people agreeing with you.
Everyone watched as a free kick was given. Kennedy kicked the first goal of the game making the Eagles fans cheer. You and your dad, either side of Nico, stood up and clapped and cheered. By quarter time, Nico was getting into the game with everyone else. He had even shouted at the tv with your dad.
“Want another drink?” You asked after you had finished your glass. It was quarter time meaning time for toilet and refill.
“Bush chook for me,” Your dad answers, shaking his near empty can.
“Uh same,” Nico responded, a little confused with the name.
The same happened for half time and three-quarter time. Within the final quarter the score was close. 89 to 72 with Eagles in the lead. Final minute the Dockers had caught up making the score 96 to 97. Dockers in the lead.
You dad and his best mate were pacing as everyone watched on. The players were playing roughly and tackles happened left, right and centre. You watch on as Jamie Cripps goes to mark the ball, jumping on the back of his opponent. Making the speccy but coming down badly. His body crunching as he lands on the grass under another body. Nico winces, swearing he could feel his arm being shattered just but watching him.
“Ouch. That’s gotta hurt.”
Surprisingly, Cripps clambers up from the grass, wiping the dirt from his hands. He was given the mark and allowed to kick it. He waited, trying to find someone who would be clear of Dockers players. He found one and booted the ball a quarter way down the field. Oscar Allen marked the ball just within the Eagles’ 50 metres. Nico was up with your dad clapping and cheering along with him.
“Let’s go Allen!”
He put the ball on the ground while he put his mouthguard in his sock, waiting until the siren sounded. Fans waited with baited breath. He had to get a goal to make them win. He picked the ball back up and lined up his kick. Allen took a couple steps before kicking the ball straight through the middle of the posts.
Nico and your dad cheered loudly, you were up with them. All the Eagles fans around the table were happy with the outcome. Another year of bragging rights for the team. The best team in the West.
Once the game had finished, and the team’s anthem sung, the tv was turned off and the speaker turned on. The playlist consisted of music you had grown up with; Pink Floyd, AC/DC, The Angels,  Paul Kelly, Queen all included. The barbeque was fired up as the sun set. You had turned on the party lights while everyone enjoyed themselves. After dinner, your dad would light the bonfire like normal.
You sat around the table with the women of the family, chatting and catching up. The men around the barbeque all holding a drink in their hands. Kids running around the backyard and jumping on your old trampoline that surprisingly hadn’t rusted too badly just yet. This was a common thing within your family and friend group.
“Dinner!” Uncle Glenn called to everyone.
One by one, everyone lined up at the food table with paper plates. The table was filled with all the sides that your mum had made earlier in the day along with other people’s sides they had brought. All the meat had been placed there too. You grabbed a chop, two snags and some salad. A bit of potato salad and some of your aunt's Mexican style salad. You couldn’t forget the two pieces of white bread for your snags. One with tomato sauce and the other with bbq sauce.
“Want some tomato sauce?” You ask Nico.
“You mean ketchup?”
You roll your eyes. You should have known he’d say that. “You know it’s not ketchup. Stop trying to piss me off.”
He smiles, pressing a kiss to your cheek and taking the bottle of sauce from you. Once you have everything, including the plastic cutlery, you two take your seat again. Everyone just enjoyed their food while the music played in the background. Every now and then someone would break out into song, singing Khe Sanh by Cold Chisel.
“Wanna come help me Spook?” Your dad called as he walked towards the bonfire pile with a jerry can and torch. It was night now and it was time for the bonfire.
You lit up. Growing up, you had always loved fire thanks to your dad. Sure it was weird but the flames were hypnotising. Nico and many others followed behind you two. You got passed the jerry can of diesel to tip onto the pile. Just like you had watched your father do many times over the years. Once you had stepped back to a safe distance beside your father, mother and Nico, your father lit a match and flicked it onto the pile of branches. It went up in flames with a woosh. Everyone was enjoying the warmth and the music playing in the background.
Nico wrapped his arm around you and brought you in front of him to cuddle. You leaned back into him. It was nice to be able to be yourselves without worrying people watching you. He kissed the top of your head swaying in time with ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ by INXS.
“I was standing… You were there…” You sing, turning in Nico’s arms so you could face him. “Two worlds collided and they could never, ever tear us apart.”
This song was special after watching your parents dance to this song in the kitchen many times throughout your childhood. You had always wanted a love like theirs and you had found it. Standing here amongst your family wrapped in Nico’s arms. It was all you could ever wish for.
The night came to a wind down in the late hours of the night. Most people had left or found a spot to crash for the night. Leaving a few awake. Those that were, were sat around the glass table that at some point was dragged closer to the fire throughout the night. Yourself and Nico were snuggled up beside each other, you dad and uncle there as well as Kendall and Tash. Music was still playing in the background. Loud enough for you all to hear that ‘Animals’ by Nickelback was playing.
“Oh god,” Kendall groans when she realises which song was playing.
“Huh?”
“So come on baby, get in. Get in, just get in.Look at the trouble we're in,” You dad sings.
You grew up with the song. Singing it from such a young age. Oblivious to the actual meaning of the song. You even knew it word for word. It was a must have in the family road trips. You’ve lost count how many times your mum has cringed at you and your father when this song came on.
“And that was when she started screamin' that's my dad outside the car. Oh please, the keys, they're not in the ignition.” You shifted to face Nico, pointing to him whilst you sang the next line. “Must have wound up on the floor while we were switching our positions.I guess they knew that she was missing. As I tried to tell her dad it was her mouth that I was kissing.”
Nico blushed bright red. You were singing these lyrics to him, in front of your dad. Sure, you dad was nice. Nico and him had always gotten along. But he was 6’3, built, tattoos on his arms, a long beard. He looked scary. But to his family he was the BFG. Nico included that sentiment.
It wasn’t until the early hours of the morning that you and Nico stumbled to your bed. Changing from your jeans into a Devils shirt you had stolen years ago from Nico when you first started sleeping at his apartment. Nico just wore a pair of sweats to bed. Both of you snuggled under the covers. The fan above you going full blast
“I love you,” You whisper into the darkness.
Nico pressed his lips to your shoulder, “I love you too Spook.”
“Not you too.”
He chuckled at your reaction. Repeating the sentence once more, pulling you tightly against him before you passed out.

Hey there! Can I request headcannons for Connor's (s/o) who is an Australian detective who had recently transferred to the DPD and sees snow for the first time and has a fangirl moment as Hank and Connor watches them play in the snow. Thx!
I’m so sorry you probably requested this aaaages ago but as a fellow Aussie this sounds so fun Omg
——————————————————————————
- Snow only happens in certain places in Australia, so the fact that Connor’s s/o has never seen snow before wasn’t exactly shocking.
- They’d mentioned a few times before how they’ve always dreamed of a white Christmas. Christmas was very different back home. And while family BBQs in the sweltering heat has always been an enjoyable way to spend Christmas they’ve longed for the ugly Christmas sweater experience
- It was about November when the first snow fell. (Y/n) had been working hard inside the precinct all day and had not noticed the snow falling outside.
- Connor and Hank invited them to go for a walk and grab a coffee on their break. They had originally planned to continue working but as soon as Connor placed his hand on theirs they were sold.
- The three of them walk outside, which is when (Y/n) notices the snow that has fallen.
-“ITS FUCKING SNOWING?”
-“You didn’t notice?”
-“No I didn’t notice! Oh my god Connor it’s Snow!!”
- There isn’t much on the ground, but it’s snowing steadily. They let go of Connors hand and walk out into the snow, reaching their hands out to feel the snow falling onto their skin
- It was prettier than they imagined it would be and they could not contain their excitement.
- Hank was their first victim.
- With the snow that had fallen, They gathered a (rather pathetic) snowball in their hands and threw it at Hank
- Hank was not one to back down from a fight
- SNOW BALL FIGHT
- they didn’t end up getting coffee. They did however get extremely wet and cold
- You can imagine their excitement the next day when more snow had fallen.
-“Connor can we build a snowman before we go to work?”
I’ve seen snow like twice maybe and my god snowmen are hard to build how do you get them round??

yknow while this hellsite continues on the whole religion discussion thing, i’d like to jump in on it with my experience particularly with leaving catholic school.
like aside from my angsty pop-punk/emo etc teen phase (which’ll obvs be weaved into story later on) that led me to have different views from the church and aside from the whole sexism thing that i endured over my year 10 formal/junior prom in 2010 and 2011 from staff there….. i found it within myself incredibly hard to leave there… mostly because i’d known literally 1/3 of my year group at catholic school since kindy/kindergarten or some other point in primary school.
this affected my choice to leave and it was quite tumultuous inwardly. knowing the safety and predictably of the people i was with for all those years was a comfort to me. i knew their parents due to parent mixer bbqs that we’d have after mother’s day and father’s day liturgies- although i hated the mother’s day ones mostly, due to personal reasons. but to leave that comfortable place for overly loyal, kinda sorta shy (although everyone who knew me at that school wouldn’t’ve described me as shy bc i was a very loud show off because of drama class 😅) and by year 10, very lonely, highly socially anxious and depressed, teen me was terrifying. it meant losing her friends and stability and she obvs hated that thought. it meant leaving the one one place she ever felt good at something, drama class.
obviously, after she did leave for public school, she visited the catholic school on a few separate occasions, to try and keep the connection “alive” or whatever the fuck she wrote in a fake deep status on her fb (that i now get in my fb memories every year lmao). but it all ended pretty badly, when everyone from that school stopped talking to her once high school finished. no one invited her out. or if people did try to invite her out, like a couple of people did, it always fell through…. and it made her feel like she was just a bad luck charm or whatever other low self esteem talk she was telling herself. there was quite a few moody statuses around that too lmao.
but yeah. leaving catholic school was a massive thing for me back then, because even though i hadn’t gone to church on sunday for literal Y E A R S at that point; i still had a strong pull to that school because i’d known SO MANY kids at that school from primary/elementary/grade etc school, regardless of their year group level. because if there’s one thing catholic school was good at, it was networking 😂. you knew everyone, and everyone knew you. it was safe, it was sound, so i didn’t want to leave.
but once you leave, you lose your friends and what almost felt like an extended family (although they obvs weren’t). but at the same time, i’d grown to hate the safety and almost insularity of the school, because as i mentioned earlier, you felt like you could predict how people would react or behave in class/events etc.
i felt the above distinctly, because as i’ve mentioned plenty on here, from years 7-10 i was a very emotionally demonstrative kid. in some classes (mostly religion and PE when i was bothered to participate) i’d end up in shouting matches with the teacher or other students…. or y’know just have a casual meltdown in the middle of class, which many people saw as “attention seeking” behaviour. i felt watched, i felt ready to snap, and to quote the ever present All Time Low i felt like the bridge lyrics from “therapy” (which was/is quite obviously somewhat partially about the price of fame and hollywood imo- but that went over teen me’s head at the time lmao):
“arrogant boy, love yourself so no one has to, they’re better off without you (better off without you). arrogant boy, cause a scene like you’re supposed to, they’ll fall asleep without you; you’re lucky if your memory remains”
like yes. i’ll admit those bridge lyrics being applied to this time is rather overdramatic, in hindsight, but hey. that was teen me for ya lmao. and don’t even get me started on applying ATL’s song “sick little games” to this at the time as well 😂😅. anyway. from all the “lms and i’ll tell you what i like about you” trend statuses that people were doing back then on fb, i’d gained the tag of “cool/chill girl”, my crush rich boy, once called me “outrageous” because of how loud i was and how willing in years 7-9 to scream out stupid song lyrics like “i want to fuck dog in the ass” by blink 182, fight song by marilyn manson and then idek probably my humps by black eyed peas at the top my lungs through the very few halls that that school had 😂😅. i was being purposely and annoyingly offensive most of the time.
but eventually, once it came to things like one of the girls in my group wanting to run for vice school captain and the other girls in my group A L W A Y S being given leadership positions (LPs)….. while i always had to apparently “repent” my behaviour by being made (in theory from my teachers) to sit alone at lunch because of my “embarrassing” and “unseemly” behaviour at the so-called “training”/ “retreat” days we had for things like being peer support leaders for the new cohort of year 7s etc etc. i felt like everyone was just waiting for me to leave…. and that they couldn’t stand my “embarrassing” presence and that i’d ruin my friends chances of being selected as co-captain or whatever other bullshit LPs they wanted to run for. but still. i felt like i couldn’t leave. just. how do you leave a bunch of people that you’ve known for so long???
and even when my teachers were nice enough to give me a chance in a leadership position once; in that dastardly bullshit internet safety workshop thing that they should’ve literally just hired a professional workshop co. to do….. but to save money they used students in my year group instead. so, instead of being marked by my teachers on this program; i was marked by the catholic education office. they had a lady come in from the ceo to judge/mark us while presenting…… and this lady went off at teen me for “not being professional, responsible and respectful” or whatever the fuck the woman told 15/16yo me…. which teen me then fired back with “i don’t have to be fucking professional and responsible!!!! IM FUCKING 15!!!!”.. so from then on i was never given an LP or any other type of “peer support” role against my friends who were littered with offers for them. mind you, i did call a whole room of 14 year olds “a bunch of cunts” or the like and then stormed out thinking that i’d made a solid point, so the CEO woman had a good reason 😂😅….. again in hindsight.
of course there was also the bitterness of teen me being angry at the english dept for not giving her a spot in the top class of english in her half of the year. but as i’ve said previously on other posts, i’ve forgiven this because i did essentially fail one shakespeare in class assessment in year 8 or year 9 😂. but i strongly felt this during my time at catholic school bc my friends believed that i should’ve been in the top english class too lmao.
but aside from those troubles and foibles, i still found it incredibly hard to leave. to leave the perceived closeness of that group of girls, who would sometimes walk me down to the office and sit with me in “purple room” while i waited for the teacher that had to act as my therapist almost lmao. even though i always told my friends to leave me be and go back to class bc i felt bad about dragging them out of class for so long.
but yeah. with all the above behaviour, the song lyrics to me at the time made sense bc teen me just felt so pressured to fit into the whole “funny, cool, outrageous girl” bs box that people had put her in…. but at the same time she wanted to escape it bc she was just *flyleaf voice* SO SICK of being laughed at instead of laughed with (atl weightless reference here kids) just because… like she DESERVED to be taken seriously for fucks sake, and not a be a “monkey do funny dance” person… she obvs felt this the most in drama class. where in the shakespeare unit, she picked a medley of romeo and juliet and taming of the shrew monologues to do for her monologue. although she nearly did lady macbeth throwing herself off the tower, to be hella edgy…. but she opted not to do that in the end. but she picked serious pieces bc she was sick and tired of being classed as the one trick pony go-to funny person.
okay. this really went off topic. but y’all get the point??? the decision of leaving catholic school was a hell of a ride for little 14-16yo me. it was confusing, terrifying and tied up in years of being overly judged and feeling like people wanted me to leave bc they were sick of me. it was tied up in years of mid-class meltdowns that had become kind of routine for me to have, and that people were just brushing me off as “attention seeking”…. but also ironically waiting for me to snap at any second for another wild shouting match or walkout; which would then make me look like i was “unruly” or “untameable/unmanageable” or whatever the fuck….. but i couldn’t take that anymore, for the final senior years. i HAD to leave it.
again it was hard to leave for loyal little teen me, despite how lonely and isolated she felt. why leave your friends when you’re comfortable??? but also: why stay in this toxic environment where people are just waiting for you to either shut the fuck up and put up with it or just blow up and absolutely lose your shit??? that’s just unhealthy asf. and the only unruly thing that’s happening here is the complete lack of mental health help or management in the aussie education system; but most especially in religious schools.
