Central Park has been cancelled after 3 seasons at Apple TV+ according to co-creator Josh Gad over the weekend.

The series has recieved many Emmy nominations and an NAACP Image Award nomination in the Outstanding Animated Series category.

Silo (prod. Graham Yost).

Apple’s sci-fi dystopian drama layers an intriguing series of mysteries about what lies beyond humanity’s last living underground colony of survivors after an unknown disaster wipes out the rest of society over a century earlier. Rebecca Ferguson stars as an engineer turned sheriff tasked with uncovering the secrets of the eponymous silo and the supposed toxic and uninhabitable world  outside. It’s a slow burn series where it’s not even immediately clear who the protagonist is until a couple episodes in. However, Yost pays off our interest with a focus on the humanity of the characters.

i got 3 months of appleTV free, so i’m trying to binge watch a bunch of shows, and i started with ted lasso and GOD this show is refreshing. it’s so mature and witty and emotionally competent and heartfelt. ted lasso is such a refreshingly healthy and genuine example of positive masculinity and emotional maturity, and the whole thing being—technically—a sports comedy is truly just icing on top of the cake, cause you really don’t expect this kind of thing from sports irl or in film! you don’t even really expect it from many comedies, either (not that this is always a bad thing, just that it’s nice to see something different). i get why so many ppl rave abt the show, now, i really love it so far. the messages about accountability and love and emotional honesty and healing, it’s all just so lovey

I know the AppleTV team technically doesn't have the rights to Robots (and thus Daneel or the Three Laws) but man. Wouldn't it be nice if they did

#im JUST saying from what i can tell theyve done a fairly good job with Foundation but it does suck a little that there can be no real ties #between demerzel and daneel in the show #but ALSO i wouldnt hate to see something actually get done with the Robots ip since evidently its just been sitting around #since the nearly entirely unrelated Will Smith movie in 2004 #i havent watched a lot of Appletv originals in general but ive heard good things and i think itd be a good home for Robots #i wonder if theres a chance of them trying to acquire the rights if Foundation continues to be successful

Another big reason that streaming-only media is awful?

I'm doing research for a video essay about the Hays Code. I can get a copy of The Celluloid Closet at my library. Know what I can't get? A pair of queer docs that released as AppleTV and Netflix exclusives.

I'm LIVID that I'm getting paywalled on multiple things that would be extremely helpful to my research and writing. I'm trying SO HARD to go through libraries and legal sources, but streaming-only documentaries are making it impossible. Physical copies need to be made.

I spend a lot of time thinking about how much recent queer media has been streaming-only, with no DVD releases. What if it all disappeared tomorrow because no physical copies were ever produced? What if the streaming companies edit it, censor it, quietly get rid of it?

We know FOR A FACT that Disney+ has been censoring and editing things for the streaming platform. People noticed because they had copies of the originals to compare it to. Sure, changing the dryer to a pizza box in Lilo & Stitch may seem like a harmless change, but think. THINK.

How many blink-and-you-miss-it "first gay characters" has Disney released? How many could be erased just as easily as the dryer from Lilo & Stitch? Streaming-only media is easy to censor. To take away completely. This is why I hoard queer media. What if it disappears one day?

In short: Download your favorite gay cartoons today. That way they will always exist on your hard drive, even if the streaming companies try to bury them.

best cdramas I’ve watched since the last one of these posts in 2023 (and some I’m still looking forward to seeing)

A League of Nobleman (watch on WeTV VIP | watch on AppleTV | watch on Viki | watch on bilibili | watch on YouTube) Adapted from the novel "The Mystery of Zhang Guo" (张公案) by Da Feng Gua Guo (大风刮过) starring Jing BoRan, Song WeiLong, Hong Yao, Guo Cheng and Wang Duo. Definitely gay, but in like a very focused, we-have-a-mystery-to-solve way. Loved the acting and the plot; cannot believe people actually gave Song Weilong shit for his acting in this drama. He was aMAzing. The downside is that the editing grew progressively sloppier as the drama progressed, and although majority of the visuals were very satisfying, I never realized how crappy the quality of the light was until I tried gifing some of the scenes. The upside is Jing BoRan holding kittens. Enough Said. 7/10

The Blood of Youth (watch on Viki | watch on YouTube) Adapted from the novel "Shao Nian Ge Xing" (少年歌行) by Zhou Mu Nan (周木楠) starring Li HongYi, Liu XueYi and Ao RuiPeng. Love this goddamn drama. I adopted the entire cast within the first 3 episodes and then I spent the next 37 terrified that half of them would get killed off. There’s def some major character death in this drama my chickens, so keep that in mind (and not a canonical death either, from what I understand). Anyway, this is my fave genre by far so I’m never really picky, but this drama is exhilarating and gorgeous from beginning to end. Highly recommend. 9/10

New Life Begins (watch on iQIYI | watch on Viki | watch on YouTube) Adapted from the web novel "Qing Chuan Ri Chang" (清穿日常) by Duo Mu Mu Duo (多木木多) starring Bai JingTing and Tian XiWei. Just sweet and fluffy. The plot is easy and devoid of complexities, but very satisfying nonetheless. The acting is definitely on another level. The entire cast has bonkers chemistry, and it’s about time someone made good use of Bai Jingting’s comedy potential. One of the top 5 easy viewing dramas on my rewatch list.  8/10

The Legendary Life of Queen Lau (watch on Viki | watch on YouTube) Adapted from the web novel "Huang Hou Liu Hei Pang" (皇后刘黑胖) by Ge Yang (戈鞅) starring Li JiaQi and Li HongYi. Loved this. Although it doesn’t shy away from difficult subjects, this is basically a comedy from beginning to end. Not gonna lie, I mainly gave this a go for Li Hongyi, but it’s hard to even notice him when Li Jiaqi is in the room. There’s no shame in being overshadowed by superior talent :) 7/10

(yeah, after all this, I rewatched Nirvana In Fire again)

Under the Microscope (watch on Apple TV | watch on Bilibili | watch on iQIYI VIP | watch on Viki) Adapted from the novel "Xian Wei Jing Xia De Da Ming" (显微镜下的大明) by Ma Bo Yong (马伯庸) starring Zhang RuoYun and Wang Yang. Continuously impressed by Zhang RuoYun’s skills. This drama is 90% grit and tension. Drool-worthy visuals. Interesting plot. Sound mixing that gives me a Mo Ran style boner. Make your friends watch it and they will hate you. 9/10

Till The End of The Moon (watch on YouTube | watch on Apple TV | watch on Viki) Adapted from the web novel "Hei Yue Guang Na Wen BE Ju Ben" (黑月光拿稳BE剧本) by Teng Luo Wei Zhi (藤萝为枝). Starring Luo Yunxi and Bai Lu. This was so breathtakingly gorgeous. The chemistry between the actors, the visuals, the special effects, the costumes, everything is stunning in this drama. The romance is by no means original, but still manages to draw you in. Absolutely worth watching at least once. 8/10

Zach Golirnger: One of my favorite scenes to film in The Crowded Room was the water scene with Tom in episode 10.⁣

Originally in the script I was supposed to be⁣

sitting in a chair in the water slumped over (as "Adam"),⁣ when Tom ("Danny") finds me.

But Tom had the idea that I should⁣ be underwater instead, so we did it that way and it came out brilliant.

Our awesome wardrobe team⁣ fitted is all with wetsuits under our costumes so we wouldn't get cold while filming in the water and we had warming tents to watmr

The scene came out so powerful and was so much fun to film. All episodes of The Crowded Room ⁣
