Okay, Ymir Fritz....
Genuinely curious, am I the only person that doesn’t give a damn about this character?
Tumblr media
For as long as i can remember I have been COMPLETELY apathetic to the elephant in the room that is Ymir Fritz, the very cause of all the Titans and 2000 years of suffering. Basically this story’s Anti-Jesus.
It may be because Gabi Braun had already derailed the story for me so I couldn’t give a fuck about Titans’ origins anymore, but that aside, is anybody genuinely fascinated by the explanation provided by Ymir Fritz’s very existence?
Her entire saga with King Fritz, the releasing of the pigs, being fused with that nameless symbiote, which in itself is another entity that didn’t really come full circle in the final arc.......NONE of it engages me in the slightest.
I mean I was never a huge fan of when they subverted the original story by showing that it was Marley who deliberately created the TItans to wipe out the people of the Walls, and I don’t consider the Marley to be especially well-developed as an enemy faction, but everything comes back to Ymir......I was thoroughly underwhelmed and could not really accept her story as relevant to the plot. It could be because she simply came up too little, too late. Or because I genuinely found her story uncompelling. Horrific? Sure. But for a horrifying backstory, it sure was a bore.
That’s to say nothing of the idiotic revelation that she needed to see Mikasa “let go” of Eren so that she could let go of her love for such a monstrous human being like King Fritz.......Not only was that totally in bad taste, but it was a HIDEOUS solution to the Titan curse. Them and the symbiote vanishing with little real consequence, that was totally anticlimactic. But it all boiled down to the cringiest kiss ever seen since a human princess kissed a blue hedgehog?  Oh yes. I went there.
There’s only one Ymir in this story I want to watch. And that is our long lost goddess here.
Tumblr media
Anyone else feel totally uninvested in Ymir Fritz? Because half the time, I have to remind myself oh yeah, she exists.......For such an enigmatic character, Ymir Fritz left virtually NO impact on me.
Do you guys agree?

If anyone in AOT Ymir Fritz could relate to it was Levi Ackerman. Levi had a similar backstory but not as horrific as hers. When we see the true story of Ymir Fritz and the founding titan, not once did she crack a smile because her life was that miserable. Levi never once smiled in the presence of his uncle. He was very much loved by his mother, Kuchel, but he was never loved by his uncle Kenny, just like Ymir Fritz was never loved by the king. Even though Kenny saved Levi from dying of starvation and taught him how to protect himself, he pretty much didn't give a shit about Levi and raised him to be a killer just like Ymir was used as a weapon for the king. The ending of the manga should have been Ymir Fritz talking to Levi and telling him how the king treated her and Levi would tell her about his past. Levi then kills Eren for good, and Ymir Fritz can move on into heaven to be with her daughters. Why Isayama chose Mikasa of all people is bullshit. People have every right to still be upset about the ending. At first, people were upset because Erehisu didn't become canon, but some Erehisu fans realized that the manga and anime were never about romance and that they can still create fanfiction, fanart, and doujinshi mangas. The reason why people are still upset about the ending is because of the fact that Ymir Fritz is in love with the king, which contradicts chapter 122. Reiner is still a simp, and the happy ending feels rushed, and it makes it feel like everything they went through was like they went to high school. This is me, basically ranting about the God awful ending because the rumbling was basically a result of unrequited love and not revenge or anything else reasonable. The part where Eren says that Ymir Fritz was in love with the king can remain in the story, but it'll be a lie that Ymir Fritz will tell Levi because that shit was such an ass pull! The truth will be that Ymir Fritz was never in love with the king, and Eren was talking out of his ass.

Same person
Ugh, don't even get me started with Eren's dialogue of "let me list every scenario imaginable that a fan could come up with for my reasoning" that just completely disregards scenes of him breaking down or thoughts to himself that LITERALLY NO ONE BUT HIM SAW OR HEARD. What, was he acting then too when he was desperately looking for a different solution? Why was he desperately looking for a solution in the first place if he wanted to do this all along?
What kind of answer is "I don't know why"? You know, some stories make victims the perpetrators due to trauma which is very disliked by me because while it's not impossible, it's the narrative constantly used against any oppressed group who tries to fight for their rights.
They didn't even do that here! He caused his own trauma of killing his mom! Every scene before of him getting angry or courageous or crying is invalidated because he caused all of this.
He was fine with killing his mom, but not his friends...
Right. I love that for a main character. Also he could have saved Bertholdt by just making Dina freeze, or turn around, or literally anything else because I fail to see how Carla living after nearly dying to a titan would convince Eren not to join the sc. Eren could have confronted his father about what he knew since he could go in the past any way. If Eren was such an idiot, he had smarter people around to help.
If the answer to it all was that Eren was just an idiot, then why didn't Armin in any of those moments help him come up with a better alternative? Armin as a child figured the wall would fall. Eren spoke to Armin at older ages, at ages where Armin was a soldier and even smarter.
Also if the message was that Eren was an idiot and held too much power, the story could have at least tied that in to the themes of the show by acknowledging that child soldiers are problematic. They could have acknowledged that just like many adults are not cut out to rule a nation, why didn't anyone consider that a child shouldn't have been possessing that type of power and that type of responsibility?
Obviously the only solution would have been even worse, which was to have someone eat Eren, but if they just acknowledged that while having child soldiers was wrong, it was what they were stuck with. That would still be better than this mix of reasons Eren gave out.

I don’t hate Mikasa but people on twitter are trying my patience. How are you going to excuse Mikasa rubbing Annie’s back after what she did and have a girl talk with her?? And Mikasa being all “aww you poor baby” to Gabi who killed her close friend but be so cold to Louise (who was also a kid)? Make it make sense.
Louise ended up being a pointless addition because her character didn’t evoke any change in Mikasa. Like what was the point?

Chapter 33 Mikasa: blames herself for Levi’s injury and wants to be more responsible
Oh, I sense some character development…
Chapter 57 Mikasa: acknowledges Levi’s authority and even encourages others to follow his orders
Hm, she was always ready to rebel against authorities… so we truly see her growing up, cool!
Chapter 84 Mikasa: has the chance to use power (as she would usually do) against Levi to save her best friend, but instead decides to talk to him
Wow, definitely some character development!
S4 Mikasa: Ereh, Ereh, Ereh
Aaaalright… well, she was always concerned about him
Chapter 118 Mikasa: leaves her scarf
Could that mean… that she’s finally moving on from being blindly devoted to him? It’s a HUGE CHARACTER…
Chapter 126 Mikasa: takes the scarf back
Oh, fuck you all
P.S. Mikasa’s character does develop with Levi’s help, so I guess if he just threw that scarf away, it would work 😄

Literally just ranted to my partner over dinner about the 180 Mikasa’s character development did in S4.
In summary: I’ll die mad about it.

i have so much to rant about the ending of attack on titan. i am disappointed, really. following such an incredibly written story only for isayama not to give his own main character the justice he deserved is so frustrating. now he’s become a laughing stock & gets so much unnecessary/illogical slander from people who most likely never even bothered to look at him before the time skip, let alone try to understand his character and what real flaws the ending had besides his breakdown for mikasa. if anything eren is the last person people should turn their backs at, ugh.

OK, About Those Made Up Titan Powers......
Which of these was the bigger ass pull in the series regarding the scope of the Titan Shifters’ abilities?
Reiner transferring his consciousness to his Titan body to regrow his mutilated human head?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OR.........
Falco Grice tapping into the spinal fluid he consumed from Zeke Yeager to summon an ancient bird Titan that in no way resembles the current Beast Titan? And in doing so, practically overriding the Jaw Titan?
Tumblr media
We only see these respective abilities once apiece, and then never again, hell I don’t even think Reiner’s little stunt was ever referenced again. Nor were they ever hinted at in the past.
They make about as much sense as Annie having apparently NO means of freeing herself from her crystal. That’s still idiotic, I’m sorry.
Tumblr media
But I’m talking about Reiner and Falco. I could ALMOST buy Reiner’s ability, but Falco’s really forces me to stretch my suspension of disbelief too far.
Anybody else?

Are there any other anime-onlies who thought it was weird that Mikasa was suddenly Ymir's parallel? Ymir's (initial) backstory prior to the last ep was about the struggle for freedom from slavery (slavery from Fritz and her slave mindset) but now it's suddenly about letting go of a toxic relationship?? So what does it now imply about Eren and Mikasa's relationship?? That he was abusive to Mikasa and Mikasa was such a simp that she initially couldn't let go of him???!! Why do eremika shippers consider this beautiful?? I'd be angry if I wanted a positive (and mutually in love) ship and the author portrayed them to be similar to a toxic one. Like wtfuck??
Also is anyone feeling that there's a dissonance? That there's a disconnect between the ep before the final ep?? I feel like I'm being gaslighted into liking an ending that doesn't deserve praise.

The Marley arc wasn’t originally planned in snk, and honestly it was in the end a bad move. Introducing 15 new characters at the last stage of the story made it impossible for Isayama to give needed focus on his already existing, fully-formed characters that needed satisfying conclusions to their arcs.
