And by "it" I mean opening a document in my "Yo Han's POV" folder of Who Holds the Devil and stumbling over a section I'd forgotten I'd written (or blocked out, more likely). So, for your enjoyment in these trying post-chapter 39 times:

"Sometimes, Yo Han wondered what that must feel like — to be loved so fiercely and wholeheartedly by someone else. Especially someone like Ga On, whose emotions were as wild and unstoppable as they were genuine. He couldn't seem to curb them even if he tried.

And, blinded by his own idiocy, Yo Han had allowed himself to hope. For a little while, he'd honestly thought he had a chance — that he might get to find out what that would be like. That, just maybe, the emotions he saw flashing past in Ga On's eyes meant something.

Reverse Bang 2024 anyone?

Does anyone here from any fandom, especially from TDJ, ever tried or willing to try reverse bang? I actually never try this and almost never searched any of this. Looks very interesting. Basically with this reverse bang you write fanfics based on the art first instead of the original (makin fanarts from the fanfics).

I'm soooo interested to try but I'm nervous bout the deadlines as I'm currently having 2 long-term commission project and 1 full body commission on progress.

can i just say nothing makes me feel emotions like @amethystina ‘s Who Holds the Devil does. every time it updates, without fail, i am collapsing on to the floor and clawing at the walls. even in bleak february, this fic revives my love of writing, fanfic, and gahan, while simultaneously making me feel immeasurable joy when i see the update email even though i am well aware of the grief that i’m about to experience. in the absolute best way possible.

most hits: i hope you are lonely (gaon's sex tape goes viral post-canon. yohan returns to do damage control but can't quite manage his Feelings). i always laugh when i see this fic because i was so sure it'd attract a niche following. instead it's my highest performing fic. fandom is unpredictable, uncontrollable and magnificent.

second most kudos: elevator troubles (yohan, gaon, and min jungho in an elevator in that order)

third most comments: elevator troubles. although i stopped responding to comments across my fics because i have so little time that i can either write or respond, i cherish every single one. they keep me going when i hit the inevitable black hole of frustration. somebody wrote a comment "simple but great" on one of my first fics and it still fuels me

fourth most bookmarks: eating alone, eating together (post-canon, yohan learns what it is to be human again.) this story marked my return to fic writing after a decade. it's insane seeing how much my style has changed and stayed the same. for ex, i didn't know how to use dialogue in January 2023 and now i rely on it heavily.

fifth most words: til kingdom come (joseon-era reincarnation au where gaon is a crown prince and yohan is his unhinged commander in chief) another fic i have a draft update for but no time to rewrite. pt 3 would deal with the aftermath of an ambush against the commander.

fic with the least words: final coda (post-canon, yohan intercepts gaon on a train) technically cheating with this one since my lowest word count is a standalone tumblr fic but that wasn't a fully developed story

foregoing using exact statistics was a neat move on the part of @godotismissingx. numbers easily lend themselves to directionality. but this way i could celebrate my writing milestones

The last of us is over (for now) so now I need something new to watch. 

@amethystina is writing a new fanfic, but since I’ve not seen the show they are writing for, I think it’s now time to start watching it. 

Autonomy is a classic in my mind, a wonderful Tony/Bucky fic that reads like a movie (I swear you see it flash like a movie in your mind as you read it). So, go read that one if you haven’t already. 

I was so in awe and blown away by it 😍 

So I want to read the new fic they are working on because I just know, I know, it will be amazing. So, I’m going to watch The Devil Judge. I don’t know much about it but the summary sounds good so I’m going to watch it this week while I’m off work (woohoo for free time). 

And then when I’ve seen the show I will be able to read the fic! 👍👍👍

Hooooooo BOY. Ok, this is like, this is a DYNAMITE ask. Hello mystery person and Anon please know I am SO excited for this. In fact, I’m sorry in advance for how excited I am for this talk. I wanna list so many people but this should be kept to not-quite Encyclopedia length. I’ll cheat a little and say SO MANY WinterIron Writers! ALSO, I will start by saying several of this list are people I’ve talked to and consider friends, and that just, explodes my mind on the daily. These people are freakin’ incredible, you got no idea. The sheer amount of work they do, of effort they put in, of quality they produce, all faster than I feel is humanly possible? They’re incredible people, I say again, and most of em are my friends now? Just… Wow.

Ray (RayShippouUchiha) @rayshippouuchihaStarting with Ray because wow, there are not enough words for how I feel about Ray’s writing. I could wax poetic for eons, really. Her Femme Tony Stark (Natasha Antonia/Toni) gives me life on the daily. (Serious goals, friendo.) Her wordcount is crazy high. Her stories are detailed and so gorgeously written and crafted that she’s made me cry more than once. I want them printed and bound in a real book so I can clutch it to my chest, I want to bow at her feet, I want to buy her a coffee somewhere and just talk to her. I’d love to talk to her more on the internet in general, but I do show up in her inbox just to scream now and then. Just like, Ray, man. (Every now and then she turns up in comments on my fics and makes me swoon at her kindness, it’s not fair.)

TisDragons (Tisfan/27dragons) @tisfan @27dragonsI mean it might be weird to list them on one line except for the fact that they write so much together that anyone that reads them probably knows exactly why I did. XD Tis/Dragons are both super patient, supportive, knowledgeable individuals in the fandom. They write beautiful works together, seemlessly. Like, I’m not sure where one ends and another begins kinda seemless. I’m thrilled they’re published and I wish them every success, and I happily dive into their fics whenever I can. They’re lovely and helpful in BINGO and general fic/fandom research stuff. Tis in particular has been fabulously helpful about a wide range of subjects.

Rinn (rinnwrites) / Meg (rebelmeg) @rinnwrites @rebelmegOk so it’s probably a little biased to go throwing the names of internet babes around but GUESS WHAT I’M GONNA ANYWAY. These ladies are incredible. Meg regulary acts as a beta (chances are if a thing of mine has been beta’d it’s because Meg was merciful and loving) and talks me off ledges when I panic. Rinn and I are co-writing a series right now, and I just have so much fun plotting stuff with her, swapping songs for our fic playlist, or just talkin. Gorgeous writing support crew, these two are usually on the front line for me, I’m mad grateful.  

Amy (Amethystina) @amethystinawritesAmy is a veritable Queen in The Loser’s fandom and also a professional badass in Marvel. And yet, despite knowing that — despite being well aware of how dangerous it is to keep recklessly touching a man like Kang Yo Han — Ga On finds it difficult to stop. He knows he should, if not out of deference to his superior, then for his own sake. He can feel his self-control crumble a little more with each new touch and, in its stead, rises a confusing, breathtaking yearning he's not sure if he's ready to face — much less knows how to handle.

hi! hope this reply finds you.. eventually. I accidentally deleted your ask when I actually wanted to delete another one (sorry) but I was meaning to reply to a few people in a single post anyway and took provisional screenshots! so this was a lucky coincidence!

thank you for reading Children of the Red Dust! my pride and joy :D but since you know me from word of honor I.. kind of guess why you would be confused by my previous post about my “fandoms of interest”, as u say.

so, originally (I believe it was around either 2017 or 2018, cannot guarantee on that I’m afraid) this was a side-blog spurred from my need to compartmentalize and gush about my experience of re-reading a few of my favorite fics from the hobbit fandom. back then, in fact, I was in a slump and needed to pick myself up. so I decided to revisit fandoms who had brought me joy in the past, one of which was the bagginshield ship. hence a “nostalgia” blog!

coincidentally, one of the authors of a particular fic among those would have later on (in 2020) influenced my decision to try reading mdzs since they were considering writing a fic about it. they were (and still are!) one of my favorite fic authors, so I trusted them completely on that and that’s how I stepped into the world of danmei!

first it was the untamed, then winter begonia and finally word of honor, through which you have come to meet me :) isn’t that magical?

now. in regards of your second question.. thank you for letting me ramble about my new shiny interests! :D

so here’s a handy list:

1. hotd & r//haenicent :

oh, where do I start! that’s a tough one bc I’m mostly vibing in here?? like. don’t get me wrong, I love the show as it is and I do enjoy the lore behind it a great deal. I’m mostly absorbing the content and let it either shock me or impress me depending on what’s on screen. I do see the flaws but I honestly don’t care about them. I’m just vibing, as I said. but I do like to see people posting meta about the reasoning behind each character! and I love reading about the actors’ ideas behind their back stories and motivations!

my ship of choice is mostly based on the fact that I do like me some toxic-ladies-twice-divorced energy in the room and I should add that I haven’t probably been able to watch killing eve yet just so I could prepare my tastebuds with the hotd female leads first. I especially love the modern!au edits I’m seeing floating around and for now that’s enough to keep me from starving until the new season arrives.

2. the devil judge :

honestly, my focus would be gone on all planes of existence wasn’t it for @/amethystina’s fic (I don’t want to bother her with me tagging her on this, but do trust me and go read it bc it’s gonna change your life!) Who Holds The Devil. seriously, my anxiety has been so bad recently but there she glows, the most massive brain in the universe, bringing us frequent updates despite her busy schedule (and, apparently?? she wrote an entire 100k words fic in the strangers from hell fandom on a whim?? so if that’s your vibe you can go feast on that baby and have a fucking party while you’re at it. thank me later)

no but for real. it’s almost camp. almost. the drama, I mean. all it needs is a feathered boa and it checks out. outlandish villains that do be sounding a little too similar to IRL egotistical capitalist pigs, dangerous pretty ladies, rich bitches (Kang YoHan included), mysteries™️, boytoys and sassy teenagers. there are a few complains I have, ngl, but the vibes are immaculate imo. I would also offer, in a similar vein, kdramas like little women (a recent favorite of mine!), beyond evil (a classic at this point) and, on a bigger scale, the glory (which I have yet to watch, contrary to the first two).

3. helluva boss :

this one caught me off guard, ngl. I used to see it trending on tumblr often but thought it was just the most recent western brand of animation that people get hooked on for the witty dialogue and vaguely philosophical themes being explored (as u can see idk anything about these things, I thought it was similar to adventure time or smth, the fool that I was!). what I got instead was great animation and complex three-dimensional characters overall. now I’ve rewatched the entirety of the available episodes perhaps ten times. honestly, my anxiety really needed that.

as with hotd, I’m just vibing.. but I’m very engaged. I felt almost euphoric at the thought that animators and artists could just.. have fun with it? I’m sure there’s an enormous amount of work involved in the production of every single episode, so I’m just leaning back and enjoy the show. bad gays are hella entertaining and I’m here for it. coincidentally, around the same time I started actively watching the series I found out about a new queer short film that is being developed called the lovers! it’s gonna be a long wait but it’s gonna be worth it :D

4. don’t hug me I’m scared :

this was a fun one. when it first came out (idr when tho) I remember being very uncomfortable with the material. it reminded me of Flat Eric, a yellow puppet used in dance music videos of some artist or smth: it used to terrify me as a child and dhmis evoked the same reaction out of me in the beginning. but then I watched some video essay on the matter and I grew more accustomed to the feel of it and became interested in the though process behind it instead. first video I watched on the topic was about an interpretation of the show through an autistic perspective and the other was a.. I believe a 3 or 4 hours video making an overview on the whole lore behind it.

I’m not very interested in “finding out what does this all mean” or anything of the sort. I’m just here for the cosplays xD no but really, people are so inventive! and they make merchandise and dolls and drawings and full on costumes all on their own! that’s creative as fuck! and it’s unsettling and evocative at the same time. I’m baffled by everyone’s talents and I’m merely wishing to be as good as them ahah.

5. dune & the hunger games :

not sure how this happened. I have read the latter series but not the first, I don’t have time for that. but I can digest a movie or two and the visuals are very interesting to me! also I am a bene gesserit simp and I hate them and their ways in equal measure. idk why but that’s how it is. similarly, I want to see how the cast for the prequel of hunger games does! I’ve heard the lovely viola davis is in it and I’m thrilled to see her being unhinged :D

but mostly, I re-evaluated the entire hunger game trilogy by reading meta posts and fics exploring the story from different perspective in the past and this new movie reignited the interest for the time being, so I’m excited to give it a try! dune, on the other hand, is new for me and it’s helping me bond with my dad on our shared love for sci-fi. what’s not to love??

6. succession :

I’m honestly not sure about this one. I plan to look more into it but idk when I will have the time ahah. if nothing it will entertain me with rich people drama which is always obnoxiously fun to tap into when capitalism fucks me over one way or another. we will see!

so uhm here’s my small silly little list of some tdj fic that has altered my soul because let me tell you. when a tdj fic hits it HITS. so maybe there’ll be a fic here that you haven’t read that you’ll enjoy here

these are all gahan because yes and also all completed because i’ve been hurt too many times before. also i love all of these fics very dearly so they’re not in any order

➣ Mature, ~27k words, Post-canon, Angst with a happy ending

➣ Gaon keeps attempting to fix things, but somehow, one part always seems to be missing.

➣ for me, this is THE post-canon gahan fic. what stands out for me is while gaon may be awfully lovesick, he doesn’t completely isolate himself - still maintains and forms friendships with people. watching the development of this and the way he heals is EXQUISITE and it’s written EXQUISITELY. the yearning has a wonderful payoff too. it’s just really fucking amazing guys plz read it

➤ Gravitational Pull by Amethystina

➣ Teen, ~22k words, Ep 13 canon divergence

➣ As grateful as Ga On is that Soo Hyun rescued him from Bamboo Spear's violent mob, he can tell she's lying when she claims to have heard about it on the police radio. That explanation just doesn't add up. So Ga On pressures her to tell the truth and, to his surprise, she reveals that Kang Yo Han was the one who sent her.

That one simple admission sets off a series of events that Ga On could never have predicted — events that bring out feelings he's done his best to ignore.

And desires he realizes he might not be strong enough to resist.

➣ i like how this fic doesn’t ignore how strongly gaon obviously feels for soohyun - i mean she’s been the only person for him to rely on for years. yet despite that, gaon works through what he actually wants and feels and chooses yohan. i cannot get over how well gaon’s inner thoughts are written. in fact, i can not get over how well the characters are written, full stop.

➣ Mature, ~9k words, 5+1, Domestic

➣ Alternative title: Five times Gaon catches Yohan off guard, and the one time he sees it coming.

➣ sometime domestic-style fics can be overly sickly but this is not one!! love the follow of gahan’s relationship and it’s written so well and smoothly. the yohan pov is nice too :)

➤ Destroy Me More by saturate

➣ Explicit, 6.5k words, Ep 12 canon divergence, Sexual Content

➣ “What kind of monster am I becoming?” Gaon asks, then, and wishes he could regret it, this becoming. He knows that Yohan is a monster, in some ways. Knows that only another monster could stand on his level, be his equal, and Gaon yearns to stand beside Yohan with an intensity that hollows him out.

Yohan’s hand on his shoulder, his neck, his cheek. Gaon shudders. Wants more. Wants everything. “It may be hard,” Yohan says, and his ears are flushed red, like something in this is getting to him, too, “but it can’t be helped.”

➣ i love episode rewrites! really wish this is what happened in episode 12 ngl. absolute nailed the characters and their mannerisms and their incredibly hot dynamic. there’s some lines in this that making me go fucking feral - an absolute masterpiece when it comes to that and the writing overall is just great. i come back to this a lot just to scream

✨ Fanart for “Hyperborean” by @amethystinawrites ✨ I hardly ever post art online anymore, so here we have something both rare and surprisingly decent! It started out with me playing with the new features in Procreate and ended. . . well, mostly with a running monologue of profanity but that’s pretty much normal. Here we have two of everybody’s favorite Losers looking quite comfortable for being in the middle of freezing nowhere — and as dogs nevertheless! Cougar is a pariah dog (AKA: the doggiest dog that ever did dog) and Jensen is some sort of Siberian Husky/Never ShutsUpsky mix. (And Cougar is not a literal cougar because that just wouldn’t be as funny in the context of “Wait, your name is. . . ? Like the. . . ? Well, okay, then.” if he was.) (I totally picture Mirage as being a polar bear or something else ridiculous, by the way.) Anyway, for the people who haven’t read Hyperborean, you can find it pretty easily on AO3; it’s the long one with all the kudos! To Amethystina, I hope you like this! Hyperborean is and always will be one of my favorite fics. Thank you so much for putting in the time to write it and posting it for everyone to read and enjoy! 🌺

I was tagged by the ever so lovely @amethystinawrites! Here goes ;) 

1) How many works in progress do you currently have in progress?

Waaaaaaaaaay too many. I should cut down on some of the older WIPs to be honest. Did a quick count and stopped counting at 25. A guess is it goes up to 35-40.

2) Do you/would you write fanfiction?

I have written some fanfiction and will likely write more, yes.

3) Do you prefer paper books or ebooks?

The grass is always greener on the other side? When I don’t read paper books, I tell myself I would if they were ebooks. When I don’t read ebooks, I tell myself I would if they were paper books. Either way, I should read more. However, I generally prefer paper books - when I read ebooks I get distracted much easier.

4) When did you start writing?

I agree with Amethystina here... it is a very tricky question. I’ve written ever since I first learned to write, and wrote my first book when I was about five (”The Witch and the Troll”), and my first horror novel when I was eight (“The Key to the Cellar”). I wrote a lot of semi-original stories all through school, and moved on to more intricate stories (based on roleplays I engaged in with friends) in my mid-teens. The past two years I’ve been doing writing challenges - first year to reach a total of 365.000 words (reached 315K), and the second to reach a total of 243.000 words (made it!) - but all in all I’m still just writing for fun.

But yeah, I’ve been writing since I was 4. When I was 20-21 I decided to learn how to finish stories. When I was 25-26 I decided to go about it more seriously. 

5) Do you have someone you trust that you share your work with?

I share my work with those who are involved in the story (as most of my stories still revolves around characters from various roleplays), but have a horrible record with keeping everything close to my chest apart from that. Which is one of the stronger reasons to why I don’t write more fanfics (I’m working on it!).

6) Where is your favorite place to write?

In bed, or on the public transportation (bus, mostly). 

7) Favorite childhood book?

H.C Andersen’s stories <3 And the Brother Grim stories. Can’t really say any specific story I liked more than other’s, however. When I grew a bit older (about 8-9), I got a copy of the original HC Andersen stories from my dad, and I found the “original” Grim stories at the library. Amusingly, I liked the original stories better than the more child-friendly ones.

8) Writing for fun or writing for publication?

At this point I’m just writing for fun, and I like writing just for fun, but yeah. One day or another - when I have some original stories - I’ll give it a shot at publication.

9) Pen and paper or computer?

I am very torn here. It comes and goes. Usually I like computers more, because I write faster and I don’t have to transfer it all from paper to computer, but I do also love writing on paper. It has a different feel to it and I love it. But for efficiency reasons, I prefer writing on the computer.

10) Have you ever taken any writing classes?

A few, yeah. Forced me to write in my first language, for a change xD 

11) What inspires you to write?

I just want to get all these crazy things out of my head, you know? There is so much in there, and I see characters do all these things, and there is so much going on and I just have to get it out. 

It’s also a way for me to explore What Could Be. Good OR bad, or simply neutral and different. It’s something that allows me to change my world, without ever having to step out of my room, or risking danger to change everything around me. It’s a tool for understanding, for exploring, for insight. It’s a way for me to express myself, and for others to express themselves through me.
