fun facts
Pat Monahan wrote "Hey, Soul Sister" for the guitar, but hated it. Espen Lind picked up a ukulele and played the song, and according to Pat, "it made the difference. It made my words dance. It made sense. These words were meant to dance with ukulele and not guitar"
American Authors wrote "Best Day of My Life" after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting happened in 2012. They were inspired to write the song to “make people happy and make people feel positive, because that’s something that was missing from rock and from songwriting, just something so simplistic that can be an earworm, that can carry people.”

"What does he know of the half-starved wreaths toiling from dawn till dark on the plantations? of mothers shrieking for their children, torn from their arms by slave traders? of young girls dragged down into moral filth? of pools of blood around the whipping post? of hounds trained to tear human flesh? of men screwed into cotton gins to die?"
Harriet Jacobs, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl
