again, thank you for the cosplay wig recommendation you're really very mega cool for doing that 👍👍
Of course!!! I'm always down for cosplay recommendations of things I've already gotten. I spend several days going through a million reviews to find the best item, I might as well share :D

Describing some wigs
Many years ago there was as site called Amphigory.com, and while it's still up, the Amphigory that 16-year-old me spent days browsing is not the Amphigory that still remains. They're still cool, but they'd really scaled back the scope of what they sell. There used to be cosmetics, jewelry, hair dye, a few more things, and wigs.
One of the things that they did about their wig sales that really set them apart was the level of description that they gave every wig. This wasn't just a single stock picture and a name. They took their own pictures of each wig, inside and out, and described each one's strengths and flaws. They weren't like Arda, who designs their own wigs from scratch. They were more like a normal costume reseller, who had a collection of vendors that they'd order stock from. But, unlike most costume wig sellers, they had multiple pictures and a detailed analysis of each wig. You knew what you were getting, which was really important for cosplayers who might need to restyle a wig. If you've never restyled a wig before, you might not be aware, but the wig can make it very easy, or the wig can make it impossible.
Amphigory's wig section is long gone, but I do still buy wigs from a similar company, one that has a collection of wig vendors whose products they sell. This is a shop that I go to is in person, and I love that. I know that I can find some wigs cheaper elsewhere, but I absolutely love that I can go to a small business, roll up to a counter, and physically touch the wigs before I buy them. I can look at them, turn them inside-out, and touch them. I also get to take the wig home that day, instead of waiting for shipping.
But not everyone has this opportunity, and on the offchance that people are considering buying a wig online and google the wig to see worn photos or reviews, here's me making a compilation of wigs I've recently bought and what they actually look like in person. Even with wigs from the same seller, some might be garbage, but some might be hidden gems. So, in the interest of making more information about which wigs are like what, here we go:
California Costumes Pink/Gray Ombre with Star Clips:
Tumblr media
First of all, California Costumes gets 0/10 for creativity with names. I love me a good little nickname for a wig. The Costume Mansion, where I bought this, called it "Harmony," and I think that's a better name.
Yes, my wig head is cosplaying its Naruto OC. Let it do its thing.
This is a textured, ombre wig. The actual fiber is ombre, so an individual strand will go from gray color to pink, and the gray is a little bit softer than the pink. Some wigs that are tipped with another color accomplish this by having the color on the ends be longer hair than the top color, but this is a true ombre. I have not tested this for colorfastness, but it's possible that the pink tips won't age super well. The skin top is about 3" wide and does not go all the way to the front of the wig. This means that you can change the part a little bit, but it will always have bangs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The whole thing is sewn onto a continuous cap, which isn't as forgiving of larger head sizes than one that's just wefts and elastic. It has the built-in net that you sometimes see with cheaper wigs, which is where your hair would go if you want to wear this wig without a wig cap. You, however, don't want to wear this wig without a wig cap. You know better. There's hooks in the back for resizing.
Wefts in the back are about an inch apart, but when I was shaking it around and trying to make it show the mesh, I couldn't actually make it show the mesh without physically parting it. Depending on how you put your hair up under the wig, you might have problems with the mesh showing in the back (lumpy hair will show mesh, hair that's smoothly under a wig cap won't). This is probably a wig you want a matching or light colored wig cap for if you have a larger head.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall, cute wig, stock pictures don't do it justice. Available for $20 on Amazon, in case you don't have a local costume shop to support. This item tag reads "ITEM # 7022-068 FTY # 346 HK2203" and I don't know what that means but if someone's googling the tag to look up the wig then hopefully that'll lead them here.
Yuki by Characters:
Tumblr media
At least this one has a wig name. And boy howdy is that some big hair. The place I bought this from called it "Cupcake."
I tried on this wig because I really wanted to see how it was constructed, and I bought it because, when I tried it on, it was way cuter than I thought it'd be. It's a rougher fiber, which makes the curls hold their shape really well, but you're going to be fighting to keep the bangs and long forelocks looking smooth. There's no skin top, and the hair radiates from a sort of u-shaped blob at the top. There's so much going on in this wig that it's not particularly obvious, and also you will convince absolutely no one that it's not a wig, so that's not as much a priority to me on this style.
Tumblr media
As for how it's actually constructed, there's no teasing in the wig to keep it that big. Instead, the actual cap of the wig is sewn into the shape of the big faux twintails, and then the hair is attached to that structure. Wigs are not hair. Anyway, that means there's pretty much no major restyling that can be done. It's just curly hair about 5" long on a funky structure to make funky big hair. Anyway, because thew cap of this wig is so oversized, it's really comfortable to wear, and it's really accommodating of large head sizes or a lot of hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also because of the cap size, if you don't pin the temples on, it can slide back and make your bangs shorter. You can see that in my picture there. Mine did not come with the little rose clips, but it is supposed to come with the rose clips. It's much curlier than the stock images imply it will be.
This wig would be great for embellishing, since you can sew things directly to the funky shaped cap and not worry about where to support it. It also can handle a full sized BTSSB headbow, if that's a concern.
Someone's selling it on Amazon for $60 and you absolutely should not spend that much for this wig. I see other wig shops selling it for about $30, which is the upper limit on its real fair price, unless you really need the specific shape for it. I'm not going to link any specific shop since I don't have experience buying from them. "Yuki wig" and "Characters Yuki wig" are good search terms.
Characters Peggy Sue wig:
Tumblr media
Okay so please be forgiving that my detail pictures are going to be of this wig already styled, because I didn't know I was going to do this post when I started working with it. I'll make a point to spell out what's stock and what's been done. Top pictures here are the most un-styled that I have.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This wig's got a coin-shaped skin top that all the hair radiates from. It comes with long, blunt bangs. The fiber is really shiny and is very easily reshaped by low hair dryer heat. High heat on my hair dryer, too close to the scalp, was how I made the frizzy spot in the back. The cap is a closed mesh cap, but it's nice and stretchy.
The weird boogers on the top of my wig are the orange hilights that I put in (they were just chopped from another wig), but that picture's there to show the size of the skin top. You can also see where I sewed some orange wefts into the wig for all-over recoloring. I re-parted the skin coin so that the hair has a linear part instead of radiating from the center, and then painted it with liquid foundation to make the parted area larger. Mine also has a LOT of baby powder dispersed through it to combat the shine. I spent like four days to try to make this $20 wig look like it's maybe a $35 wig. (The process was: "oh hey I'll be taking my wheelchair to the comic convention. I should cosplay Barbara Gordon because that will be fun. This will be easy and I don't need to put a lot of money or time into it." and then four days passed and I'd spent hours manually highlighting a cheap wig).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And it really needs a bit of love to get it to be less frizzy. Right out of the bag, my wig did not have that outward flip. Unlike the other two, I don't see this being a really usable wig for lolita fashion in pretty much any context, but hey, I'm on a roll with this post.
This wig is listing online for like $30, and that's a bit much IMO. If you have a local shop selling it for $20, well, that's a different matter.
If you want a wig just to change your hair color so that your bright pink hair doesn't clash with your coord, I once bought this wig (according to Amazon in 2015 so it's been...almost a decade...nice to know they're tracking that) and was pretty impressed with the quality for a $17 wig. So, you know, buy that instead of this Peggy Sue wig.
I do own the Lacey Costume Little Women II Wig (Amphigory's "Innocent?" wig) but it's late and I want to go to bed, and all you really need to know about it is that the fiber texture of the ash blond color is really dicey, so that's probably a case where if you need a pigtail wig you need to just get an Arda Chibi. I can still do details if anyone wants. It's just 9:30 and I have to put all these damn wigs away, so good night, everyone.

8. Ewan McGregor Movie Review: Emma (1996)
Tumblr media
Plot: "Emma" is a movie based on the Jane Austen novel of the same name. It boasts a large cast of talented, recognizable actors. The titular character, Emma, is played by Gwyneth Paltrow. Supporting actors include Jeremy Northam, Toni Collette, Alan Cumming, Sophie Thompson, Polly Walker, Greta Scacchi, and of course, Ewan McGregor. Several of these actors will go on to work with Ewan again in future projects. The movie is about Emma Woodhouse, a young socialite. Although she is an available bachelorette, she enjoys secretly matchmaking couples in her town instead of finding love for herself. She believes greatly in her matchmaking skills, though her pride and naivety cause her to fumble more often than not. When Emma befriends Harriet Smith, a debutante with unknown family heritage, she makes it her mission to find her new friend a fitting husband. Instead, she finds herself more trouble than she knows what to do with.
Ewan Review: Ewan plays the character Frank Churchill. Frank is the stepson of Emma's friend and former governess, Mrs. Weston. He is a charming young man who thrives on being the center of attention. When he arrives in town to visit his father, the townswomen immediately become enamored with the handsome bachelor. Even Emma, who previously thought she was not interested in marriage, can't help being swept off her feet by the gentlemen's advances. Ewan wears a wig in this role I believe because his hair would still be short from filming "Trainspotting." It's not a bad wig but there were some moments where I had to squint and say "yeah, I don't think that's his hair" lol. He uses an English accent for this role and honestly, it doesn't sound very good. He's done English accents before but this one just doesn't sound natural especially compared to his co-stars. He sings twice in the movie! He performs two duets and the first one always makes me laugh because of how he randomly jumps in. He's also in a dance scene which was really fun. As far as his performance, it's nothing special in my opinion. Again, maybe it's because he was surrounded by a large cast of talented actors, but he didn't seem to shine like he normally does. Or maybe he was tired from filming four movies back to back and the fatigue had begun to set in. Luckily, since his character is a minor one, it doesn't really matter and I still had a good time watching him.
Screentime Percentage (numbers are rounded to the nearest whole number): Ewan is on screen for a grand total of 13/121 minutes making his SP 11%.
To Ewan or not to Ewan: Is the movie worth watching for Ewan content alone? My opinion is no. He's a fun perk that you get with the movie but I wouldn't turn it on just to see him. Is the movie worth watching in general? Yes! It's fun. It's cute. It has a happy ending for everyone. It even won two Oscars for best movie score and costume design. It's a calm, low stimulating movie that's still entertaining.
Where to Watch: "Emma" is currently available for rent on YouTube and can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video if you have a subscription.
Conclusion: If you like period pieces then I think you'd like "Emma". It's a beautiful movie and a nice change of pace from the overstimulating movies of today.

so I got "tragic" from pulp riot on amazon however many weeks ago (although I think it was on sale cuz I don't remember paying $16)
Tumblr media
anyway I got it because I knew pulp riot was the brand that my stylist used when I got my hair done a very vibrant purple that I *loved* back in 2020
Tumblr media
and I saw in the description that you actually didn't need developer! (although tbh I have some from when I bleached my hair)
so I was like oh shit stuff my professional stylist used that's an affordable price and I don't have to do math to figure out how it'll come out??? sign me up!
it's processing right now so I don't know the results of how it'll go yet with refreshing my color (from the reviews/my previous experience with the brand I have pretty high hopes)
but anyway IT SMELLS SO GOOD??? like low key it smells like a mix of got 2 b blasting spray which makes me nostalgic for styling wigs LOL and maybe like also a hair styling wax/pomade? it's hard to put my finger on but it smells very nice/relaxing

rlly rlly hoping you’re still active but i need some advice for a first time cosplay as face, specifically where to start. do i look around thrift stores for clothes? do i find things that are similar or that need to be modified? are there any good tutorials on a dave cosplay you can reccomend?
@thecosmicapple
Hi there. Congrats on your first cosplay! Welcome to this fun hobby.
If you haven't checked out this website yet, it's an archive of Homestuck related cosplay tutorials and guides. They have a sections dedicated to specific characters, so just scroll down to you find Dave.
The difficulty of this cosplay depends on which version of Dave you are cosplaying. WhatPumpkin used to sell official Dave shirts, both plain white tee shirts and the red sleeve baseball tees. You should be able to find either of those on eBay pretty easily. Here is an etsy listing for made to order Dave shirts. If you're looking for more DIY, purchasing a shirt at a thrift store and modifying it is also a great option. Here's a tutorial for using heat transfers for the shirt logos.
Here is a Dave cosplay guide. It's for his godtier outfit, but should help you out nonetheless.
Thrift stores would be a great place to start for aviator sunglasses. I think every pair of glasses I ever bought for cosplays were from Walmart or the Dollar Tree, so those are also good starting places if you have them locally.
Here's a link to a pretty cheap blonde wig to get you started. When I first started this blog 10 years ago, there wasn't much of a market for cosplay items on Amazon yet. I've bought a few wigs from there over the years. Just always check reviews! Some other good cosplay specific wig sites are Arda Wigs, EpicCosplay Wiigs, and the Five Wits Wigs, bu they are all on the pricier side because they sell very high quality synthetic wigs. A simple Amazon or eBay wig is plenty to start off with, though. Here's a wig styling tutorial on YouTube.
And lastly, remember to have fun. Cosplay is a hobby and it should be fun for you. Best of luck to you! Please feel free to reach out with any other questions. I'm sporadically active on this blog still, and typically answer messages privately.

Hi! I really like the wigs you have for all your cosplays and was wondering where you get them/how you treat them? I’m planning something for Halloween but I’ve never used wigs before 😅 does it matter if it’s expensive, or are there things you can do to make cheaper wigs look nicer?
Hi there!
So to me, it doesn't matter if you get a more expensive wig or a cheaper one. Expensive ones do tend to be a higher quality but not everyone can afford to drop $30-40 on a wig every time. Cheaper wigs work just as well, you just tend to have to do a little more guess work.
So I tend to get my wigs from a lot of different places but for more high quality wigs the main sites I use are Kasou Wigs, The Five Wits Wigs, and Epic Cosplay Wigs
Kasou and Five Wits I tend to use more for Character Specific Wigs and Epic for more normal haired wigs.
Although the downsides to these sites is that since they're higher quality wigs, they're on the pricer side, they're definitely worth the price but I understand not being able to drop $40 on a wig.
Also with Kasou and Five Wits: Kasou is in China I believe so depending on where you're located (I'm in the USA) you'll have to wait a few months for your wigs so it's not definitely not a site you wanna use for a last minute wig.
And for Five Wits, their wigs, especially their newer and most popular, tend to sell out as soon as their restocked. (I remember my friend was looking at getting their Vash wig but before she could get it it sold out.)
BUT! If you're looking for a cheaper option, I use Amazon when I get cheaper wigs. Amazon honestly can be a hit or miss when it comes to wigs, they can either be really good for a cheap wig or garbage. My advice when getting a wig from Amazon: Try not to go for the SUPER cheap ones. If you see the perfect wig that's $7.99 and think it's too good to be true, it most likely is. Also read the reviews, seriously. I stay away from any wigs under four stars just to be safe.
And for how I treat them: I keep my wigs in the bags they came in so that they stay safe and I keep them all in their own designated box so I know where to find them. Most of my wigs aren't super styled (like all spiked up with hair spray and everything), so I just make sure to brush them out every once in a while so they don't get tangled (Tip: Give your wigs their own designated hair brush, it's not recommended to use the hairbrush you use for your own hair on them because your natural oils can make the wig gross since it's synthetic)
I hope that was helpful and that you're able to find the perfect wig for your Halloween costume!

Where do you get your wigs from? They always look so amazingly good and I wanna get one but worried it'll look like a horrible halloween costume wig.
Annabelles wigs are my favourite for vintage styles!
Lush wigs are fabulous for alternative styles!
Following the social medias of those companies and some of their models has also given me lots of ideas on how to get them looking more natural/less costume-like!
I also find a few pretty cool ones just looking at synthetic wigs on amazon in the £20-40 price range??? Just check reviews! And be ready to make some adjustments to the wig irl. Lots of youtube videos on making wigs look more lifelike!

Hello Tavros, thank you so much for the stimboard! If this doesn’t bother you, I kind of need some kin advice/help here.
For me, being fictionkin is really hard, bc when im from a smaller media, and it’s seen as childish it’s hard for me. Also, sometimes being fictionkin makes me miss stuff I’ve never had. I feel, a lot of the times, wishing I could be back on Starhenge or Celestial island, or being up in the sky, or being with the other celestials. Sometimes when I vent this in tumblr it doesn’t go well, because people tell me im “delusional”, “being a kid”, or stuff like that.
I tried stuff like making the arm pieces I wear or trying to style my hair. But it seems to look less like myself and more like a crappy cosplay.
And on social medias, It’s hard seeing such hate against me. I don’t like seeing people rank monsters and place galvana as the worst, or saying it ruins starhenge. It doesn’t make me angry or sad, but I don’t blow it off. And I saw a drawing on deviant art with most of the celestials, and it was gory. It wasn’t filtered, so I got super overwhelmed from it bc seeing yourself covered in bl00d is super crazy for a fictionkin.
Do you have any tips or advice? Also, thank you for running this page a ton and giving out lots of advice :]
hI, gALVANA! yOU'RE WELCOME FOR THE STIMBOARD! sO GLAD YOU LIKED IT! i'M SO SORRY YOUR EXPERIENCING THESE TROUBLES THOUGH! D:{

Zombaes Forever Wild Vibes: Big Cat Un-Rescue review
Support Me?
Caved and got this from amazon for 23€
The box is slightly strong cardboard, the printed design is nice, I love a good zombie skull theme. The two dolls (I'm guessing some approximation of a tiger king reference) are cute, here's them compared to a capsule chix in size and the capsule chix wearing the 'boy' mullet hair/wig
The little tiger is a soft-ish rubber, think poly-pocket clothing; he has a small handle on the inside of his mouth for the dolls to grip on, as if he's eating their hands; I'm assuming most of the pets from the other sets have this feature
