my initial reaction to the lucian tea throwing up flags:

but now i have the theory that the tea they had at the inn that has Shirayuki acting all jumping is Mitsuhide’s tea recipe. The tea they drank in the library in chapter 40 that was sooo good.

Shirayuki learned or taught herself how to make it and when Zen asked about it she got too embarrassed to bring up that she learned to make the delicious tea that commemorates the time they slept on the library floor together.

so now they’re in the base camp at lyrias and they bring up the tea they had, but the reason that can’t get it at one of the stalls is because Shirayuki needs to make it.

“thank goodness he didn’t notice… that it’s the same tea.”

Maybe next chapter she reveals that she reverse engineered the tea and wants to stay up talking until they fall alseep like they did that night in the library but has been too nervous to come out and say it.

do you ever stop to think how amazing the multimedia aspect of alan wake is, like do you ever just stare into the void and take a moment to appreciate how they actually filmed so many live action scenes that work perfectly with the whole narrative and how the game has so many songs specifically made for it, singing about the events in the game, and don't even get me started on gods of asgard and the live performance of herald of darkness at the game awards that was identical to that musical part of the game LIKE HELLO??? a literal masterpiece

The Musketeers absolutely live rent-free in my head right now, so if I may present, a moment in praise of Porthos?

I love dearest Porthos, for although the adaptations turn him into a buffoon (excepting the BBC version, where he's absolutely brilliant), he's such a sweet man. He has his moments of being an utter heel (his communications with Coquenard come to mind), but there are moments where his good heart shines through.

I think of his opposition to d'Artagnan's plan to get rid of Bonacieux (a plan that, to be fair, actually came back to bite d'Art later), which Porthos readily identifies as being really unkind. That he makes sure d'Artagnan eats something when he comes to visit him at the inn. Also, way back at the start of the book, Porthos trying to protect Athos from de Tréville's wrath. xD That he defends the queen's honour when Aramis -- of all people! -- makes that infamous remark!

In Twenty Years After, his loneliness is heartbreaking -- all Porthos wants to do is be boisterous and spar with people, but everyone's afraid of this giant of a man. Yet, he speaks in the manner of a gentle older brother when d'Artagnan is worrying about meeting with Athos and Aramis prior to the scene with the argument -- Porthos has his doubts that Athos or Aramis would harm them, but he calmly tells d'Artagnan they'll go and see what happens. He tears up when everyone reconciles, delighted to have his friends reunited and once more in concert with each other.

I think I love him, your honour. Dearest Porthos, the heart of the group. =)

I am very grateful for your on point descriptions of the lovely Musketeers. 💕 Porthos does in fact have the biggest heart!! It‘s so big that he cannot even turn his back on his friends when they go down the wrong path, endangering his life. More Porthos love woohoo!! WILD that Luo wenzhou does the whole front of treating Fei Du like a kid, like its caretaking and not the same damn love motivated care he does to Tao Ran except verging on even Moreso with Fei Du

When fei du literally, episodes before, saved him from certain death with a car. Saved him through an entire fucking car chase where he was bleeding out.

Fucking incredible.

No wonder it drives Fei Du up the fucking Wall. Luo Wenzhou has all this drive to dote on and care for Fei Du and keeps framing it as caretaking and that slightly tilted lense of "listen to me as a senior to you" whenever Fei Du lashes out, and it's like Fei Du is literally president of a presumably million or incredulously more rich ass company making actual business deals shaping the world and the crime scene in their city. A car chase isn't even the only dangerous he's thing he's done that week, politically he's making enemies daily at work. He is very much a competent adult with immense fucking heaps of responsibility he Very Successfully handles.

And then Luo scolds him for drinking coffee after wine cause it might hurt his tummy. ToT

Just can u even imagine being treated that much like a child when u saved the dude who's being Overprotective, from certain death the other day? No wonder Fei Du goes feral on his ass so often.

Luo Wenzhous doing it out of love rapidly shifting from platonic to *oh fuck don't confront it yet* while he keeps framing it as caretaking adjacent so Fei Du will tolerate it in the first place and it'll seem familiar and safe for fei du, but at the same fucking time it's goddamn whiplash cause Fei Du is having sexual thoughts for equal aged Tao Ran and trying to rail the guy and take him on dates (and functionally honestly in actions doing Exactly the same things to for Tao Ran that Luo Wenzhou does for Fei Du, but fei du can't recognize Luo wenzhous treating him that way - but Tao Ran sure as fuck can and he's Exhausted over them lmao). So fei du is like WHY am I being babied???! I'm the one babying the man I HAVE A CRUSH ON (with absolutely Zero self recognition that he learned to treat someone he likes this way literally by emulating Luo Wenzhou so you'd fucking think he'd notice Luo Wenzhou doing it to him but nah).

it's all always in the eyes. now, as we've seen with lots of cosmic horror (forgive me, i refuse to refer to it as l*vecraftian horror anymore), it's usually the eyes that are the motifs found in these kinds of patrons, that knowledge is the predominant force here, but nesta doesn't really care about knowledge. what she cares about instead is indulgence, so when she sees another person, she looks for their weakness, and that weakness more or less can always be found in the eyes. even though her wisdom is not very high, constantly plagued by whispers from her god, she has proficiency in insight - she has to, in order to maintain the knowledge of which of her followers are trying to take advantage of her and which ones aren't. without fail, she can always find at least one weakness to keep in her pocket - a de facto kryptonite, so to speak - when it comes time to indulge in that fear or that need. fears, by psychological nature, are derived from 1) losing something we want to keep or 2) having power taken away from us, so by identifying a weakness, nesta hopes to identify something she can use to manipulate others' fears. this is done through looking them in the eyes, and it is the first place nesta looks regardless of who or what is approaching her.
