Au where quirks exist ever since the beginning of humanity but thought the last 200 years they started becoming rarer for no explainable reason
"for no explainable reason"? Not "because someone born two hundred years ago started eating them all"? Well, both can be true I suppose
1- humans have always had quirks so just go ahead and disabuse yourself of the idea that world history looks anything like ours now. Any boundaries humans have drawn between themselves or their spaces are totally different. Anyway, our story is set on the island nation of Akitsuba, which has begun to receive reports of children who are born without quirks- it seems impossible, but apparently the child born in Canton Province to two glowing parents but had no light himself was not the result of an affair. He is genetically both his parents child - just, without any unique plus alpha factor at all.
2- when the news breaks, Setsuji looks over at his twin brother. The two stay in a group home, and on the record, they have a spike quirk, just like their mother did before she died at their birth. In truth, Setsuji can take others quirks. He assumes he took his brother's in infancy, which why the boy can't use them, but now he wonders if his brother was in fact simply born without. He doesn't say anything, but his brother does- whispering it at night, apologizing for assuming his brother took it all this years ago and refused to even try to return it, but there's simply nothing to return, is there?
3- more people are born quirkless over time, and more people lose their quirk to AfO over time. Ujiko theorizes that quirks would get too strong, so both quirklessness and AfO are evolutions to prevent plus alpha self destruction. That is, sadly, a generous view- quirklessness is largely viewed as a horrible strange disability, and suddenly quirks become more important. Few people before had jobs that specifically used their quirks, but now no one wants to be mistaken for not having one. Many people campaign to treat and 'fix' quirklessness, trying to force activate one, study and prevent it, etc. Just go ahead and assume all the terrible things that can happen with this mindset, it all happened.
4- by the time of canon, however, quirklessness has been around for two hundred years, and it isn't going away- clearly the opposite. about half the population of the world has no quirk, and the number's hanging around 45% in Akitsuba when our main character, Akatani Mikumo is born. He's quirkless, and lives in the capitol of Higakyou, as schools there are required by law now to no longer require certain or any quirks. It's an election year, so his first semester of high school all anyone can do is talk about the candidates- especially Yagi Toshinori, a bit of a symbol for quirkless politicians and one people thought would run years ago. Mikumo, who helped Yagi carry groceries home one day and didn't recognize him outside of the bright suit, camera lights, and makeup, makes friends with a few kids at school. (Ochako, and the twins Tokoyami Fumikage and Kuroei- while the latter has a quirk, the former does not).
5- Then one day, Yagi is kidnapped, vanishing on live tv through a smokey warp. Mikumo doesn't know what to think about that, until he runs into the man on his way home from school- clearly in bad shape, with strange dark eyes that glow with some quirk he shouldn't have. Mikumo helps Yagi hide, and asks what happens, and how he can help. (AfO decided to end Yagi's use as a symbol by forcing a quirk on him and controlling him, but one of his brother's successors managed to break Yagi out first and give him his brother's quirk, allowing him to fight against AfO's quirk and withstand them safely. As for what Mikumo can do to help... he's done far more than he should already, a kind boy, but that answer isn't going to be good enough for him- he's determined to do more anyway.)

@dad-for-one asked:
All For One stared out upon the sunset over the city. High above the world he found content to think in peace, perched away upon a tall building and simply watching the sunrays sink upon the hills. Wind gently breeze by him, ruffling short ivory locks. He made no move to look behind him, but it was obvious by the sound of a warp gate, that he knew right away who it was. "Let me guess. Tomura sent you to talk to me." Was the first thing he mused. The two of them had both been acting strange around him. He was well aware why. His planned fight with his arch enemy was soon at hand. It was only obvious the two of them were worried. "Do you have such little faith in me as well, Giri." Finally the ancient's deep blood moon stare turned to look amber slits in the eye from over his shoulder.
Tumblr media
“... He did request that, yes. And I, also... wanted to speak with you. If it’s not an intrusion.” He didn’t presume to sit beside the man - if he was intruding, then he wanted to be able to leave quickly. His master deserved time to think before a difficult battle. But he couldn’t (and didn’t want to) ignore Tomura’s order, either. So he was there.
He was quiet for a moment at the question. Was it a matter of faith? He believed in his master. He believed he could win. And yet he worried, anyway. Because the fact that there was even a chance he wouldn’t seemed unacceptable to him.
An old friend might have called it ‘illogical’ to worry if he was going to say he believed in the plan. But plans had gone wrong before, hadn’t they?
“It’s not a matter of faith. I trust you. But I also... am concerned,” he said. “I suppose I don’t have a reason to be. I just am.”

Have you ever slept around with anyone besides your wife? Just saying red eyes and light hair looked suspiciously like an explosive boy.
Tumblr media
"I think you greatly overestimate my ability to 'get laid' like do you really think Mitsuki would be ok with me? That woman raised a little monster for a reason and unlike her doormat husband, I don't have the patience for woman who isn't good at compromising."
To be fair though the boy does bear some resemblance to him with his red eyes and hair. Also it isn't like he hasn't thought Mitsuki was beautiful. So maybe he would consider a one-night stand but oh boy he is not dealing with that woman for long term.
[ Though if a Bakugou would like a verse....]

I am so sad. They gave this Dabi vs Shouto panel to some B-studio.
There are so many things wrong with this shot, but the most infuriating part is that it shows that its creators do not have a clue what this fight is about.
The composition. The composition matters. This is Kamino. Shoto and Touya are having a showdown in Kamino. All Might's last stand, the place where Endeavor realized he destroyed his family for nothing, the moment where the reason they were created, they have suffered for became moot.
All Might's statue is looming over them. All Might was the goal - they were little toddlers when Endeavor told them that their worth is coming from being able to surpass All Might. Their existence was conditional on that goal. It's the reason of the wedge between them.
"I am not here". It has so many meanings. But also for this particular fight the "hero" who created this family, these two boys to surpass All Might is once again not here. As AFO rightly calls him out for it, once again, he fails to show up for Touya.
Shouto does show up and he's looking at Touya who is not looking at him. "Watch me" is like the desperate cry for self-worth in the Todoroki family.
Shouto's pose in the manga radiates his determination. He who is always so full of doubt is so sure here. He stands firm. But the fire and ice at his feet are a reminder of his "masterpiece" status, due to his perfect quirk. In the anime, his pose is floppy, the ice and fire are missing too.
Touya who looks away is so full of disdain for Shouto. His swag shows what he thinks of this 3rd son. In the anime? Nothing.
I'm not only mad because the artwork is lazy and looks bad. I'm mad because every choice they made here, every corner they cut tells me the people who made this did not understand a single thing about this fight.

Slightly Plotted Starter for @harbringerofdecay
The attack on USJ went...disastrously was the kindest word Elias could put to it. For something that had apparently been heavily planned, it was quite clear that the so called Symbol of Fear had put all his reliance into the Nomu. And absolutely none in finding suitable henchmen for the job.
Given how All for One had coddled the boy, he wasn’t that surprised.
Prometheus had to wait for things to settle down for a moment- while the other teachers pulled Eraserhead, Thirteen, and the students out of the USJ while he assured them he was fine. Minor injuries that could be taken care of at a later time considering the more severe injuries others received. Even when trying to jump in to keep Eraser from getting killed, he was lucky enough to have kept his injuries minor.
When the cost was clear he had sent a message on his phone, stepping into the warp gate that brought him into the run down bar seconds later. Right in the middle of Shigaraki being lectured for his failure. The man was on the ground- bleeding out from four different gunshot wounds. Twitching pathetically, writhing with contempt. The sight made Elias’ eye twitch.
He could agree that Shigaraki performed disastrously. But could the lecture not wait until after his wounds had been treated?
There was a silent, expectant nod from Kurogiri. A first aid kit had already been prepared. Still he could not work like this. Not with the man before him so agitated.
Tumblr media
“All for One, Doctor, while I respect and agree that Shigaraki must learn from his failure today, he is currently bleeding out. Quite profusely. In fact he’s lucky Snipe purposefully didn’t target any arteries or vitals.” he cut in, stepping forward towards the TV projecting the Demon Lord’s voice.
“I need to clean and stitch his wounds. I cannot do so when he’s in such an agitated state because of his loss, and your lecturing. We’ll call you back.”
Protests fell on deaf ears as he reached behind the TV, snagging the cord and just unplugging it completely. He was going to be in trouble for that, but it was better than witnessing the other male being admonished when he was severely injured. He makes his way back to Shigaraki, looking down at him for a moment before bending down,
Tumblr media
“Shigaraki. I am going to lift you up and move you to a booth so that I may begin removing the bullet fragments and cleaning your wounds. Hold still, this will cause some pain.”
He doesn’t wait for a response, already slipping one arm under the bleeding male’s back and one under his legs to lift him from the floor.

Gold moments of My Villain Academia:
Fire vs Ice cousins battle aka that one time Dabi and Geten unknowingly had a fight over who had been most used and traumatized by their father figures.
Toga dropped a reporter from the sky to kill her because the woman was trying to turn her into a martyr for media narrative. Bonus because she did it with her crush's power <3 who says romance is dead.
Gamer boy has endless beef with politicians and racists cults, recruits his friends to do something about it and they end up taking over their resources and houses.
The Meta Liberation Army fucking it up by fixing Twice's biggest trauma in the worst way possible. It's like throwing or hitting the local printer and it starts to work like crazy.
CEO gets defeated by the biggest losers ever and becomes enamoured with their hot mess of a leader. Cringefail conquers, I guess.
THE SIDE EYES OF THE LEAGUE WHEN TOMURA WAS REVEALING PART OF WHY HE IS SO UNHINGED WKDBJDBDNDNDND
Giran was an absolute show, I miss him so so much, bnha give me back Giran.
Tomura defeating a business man powered by stress (not kidding that's literally his quirk) by being so mentally unwell everyone was left with a wtf face.
THE BIG VILLAINS BEING CAPITALISM!!!!!! CEO, head of a media platform, politician, that one techguy, nepobaby... You name it.
On a serious note, Tomura Shigaraki's part are some of the best chapters in bnha and no one can deny it. Tenko's story and how AFO turned into into Tomura...
Moral of the story is death to racism, go and traumatize capitalism back, being insane also pays off and if your boss is a good boss, he'll find a way to pay for that sushi night.

I have not paid attention to My Hero Academia in ages. It got boring for me, I especially didn’t really like the “yes and” sort of fights they were doing where it was like “oh no he’s dead, oh wait no he’s not, and he also has gotten stronger and has somehow developed more powers” (I’m staring so hard at Dabi vs Shouto and Dabi spontaneously developing an ice quirk after having his ass beat multiple times already).
Anyway. Regardless on me having issues with that, because I know that when your main villain’s power is All Of Them, you gotta shove a whole lot of shit into your grand act, your finale.
The story of My Hero Academia did a really good job at pointing out all the flaws in hero society. Everyone wants the prestige with becoming a hero so they gotta limit it to people who have a strong enough power to get into hero schools, specifically the hero track. Not all heroes are good people and it’s dangerous to blindly give out this status as a top member of society. Not all villains are inherently evil - as the manga states, all it takes is one bad day. Racism, abuse, and mental health issues are overlooked because it happens to the people on the bottom rung. It’s realistic. It’s great. It gets the point across that this world isn’t as fantastic as it first seemed.
And then all of that immediately gets undercut by the reveal that Everything in the manga is AFO’s fault. He gave Shigaraki Decay and groomed him, he’s the one who caused the surge in crime and the anti-mutant rhetoric. They establish him as born evil, as the devil incarnate, that he has always been this way and will never change. I expected that he would never have redemption and is beyond saving, but to say he was Born Evil contradicts the “one bad day” narrative that is literally on the first page of Volume 24.
Tumblr media
Gonna Devil’s Advocate myself for a second. I think the idea that AFO being irredeemable and going against the “one bad day” narrative would have been a great contrast to Shigaraki and the rest of the LOV.
Here’s the but.
They also go on to imply that Everything Will Be Okay As Long As We Kill AFO. Since he’s the Root Of All Evil, if they kill him, everything will be 100% perfect and nothing will be Evil or Wrong or Bad ever again.
Please hear my sarcasm. That’s unfortunately not how systemic racism, classism, abuse, or any other social issues work. They unfortunately do not vanish because you get rid of one guy. It’ll definitely help consider AFO won’t be around to fuck shit up, but it’s not a be all end all situation.
Additionally, having all of this realistic worldbuilding and establishing all the problems in this hero society, having testimonies from the villains and from Deku himself that if you are different you will suffer, and then turning it around and going “actually it wasn’t the system, the system it’s fine, it’s just this one dickhead lol” fucking sucks. Okay yeah, it’s cool to see all the ways AFO was pulling the strings behind everything and manipulating society how he wanted it, but it seemed very shoehorned in???? We see some glimpses of his control of resources with the Nomu labs and the implications of using doctors to scope out good quirks to use, but we spent too little time on that other than focusing on Kurogiri.
Moving on to the spoilers I saw today for the most recent chapter. Deku’s motivations have always been “I want to be able to save as many people as I can, just like All Might.” He’s stated many times throughout the last few fights that he wants to be able to reach Tenko - not Tomura, but Tenko - and this is the end he gets?????
Tumblr media
Liberties with the translations as it’s not official but like. Come on.
“I’m a crying brat just like you said.” We established a long time ago that Shigaraki fights because he wants to build a better world for him and his friends. While he might have been a “crying brat” in his first few appearances, he hasn’t been that way in literal years. Deku calling him this (which I can’t find a good image of, sorry) goes against his entire character. He’s not a brat. He has reasons to do what he does.
“I wanted to stop you because you wanted to be stopped.” Stopped, not saved.
“So your sadness wouldn’t be passed on.” What Deku is saying here is that he is acknowledging that Shigaraki was wronged, but he isn’t going to do anything for him other than stop him (kill him) because he was hurting other people. Again, reminder, this was the kid that wanted to save as many people as he can, and Shigaraki wasn’t past saving. What was the point of emphasizing that Tenko was still a part of him that existed if you were going to kill them both?
We also don’t know what happened to the other villains as of right now. None of their statuses have been confirmed, but they’re presumed to be dead. None of them got their happy ending. None of them even got a good ending. None of them have the closure that their injustices were wronged. None of them have the closure that they left this world in good hands for other people like them. They just died.
So who exactly are we saving? What’s the point?

Izuku stared hard at Kurogiri as he set at the bar. "...I don't get it," he snorted suddenly. "...So Toga-chan and I can steal, murder, and do pretty much anything else, but you draw the line at underage drinking...?"
Kurogiri paused, tilting his head at the young master. With a slight sigh, he put a glass down on the bar, shrugging just a little.
Tumblr media
"Frankly, young Midoriya, I can't stop you." If he ordered it, Kurogiri would fetch him a drink. Not that Toga got that privilege. "However, I would highly disapprove, and would not be glad to serve, in that case. It's a personal preference of mine not to serve alcohol to minors."
