Peter’s car decides to break down on the interstate in the middle of Tennessee on the hottest recorded day of the year so far, because you know what? Why not.
He’s on the way down to a convention in Texas as a representative for Stark Industries- on Tony’s behalf, of course. The car’s a borrowed 2004 Toyota Camry; it had been Ben’s before he’d died and neither May or Peter had been able to conjure up the courage to get rid of it.
Of course now, on the side of the road in Middle of Nowhere, Tennessee, Peter wishes he’d compacted the stupid thing when its brakes had failed back in 2018. It isn’t the brakes this time (thank God), but the fuel.
The damn fuel.
Peter Parker, twenty-year-old MIT biotechnology graduate and pioneer in his field, had forgotten to fill the tank all the way at the last stop.
The sun beats down on the back of his neck as he steps out of the car and makes his way around the front to check under the hood (just in case). He can already feel sweat gathering in beads on his forehead, his face flushing what he knows must be fire-truck red from the heat.
He didn’t even bother to bring sunscreen.
He’s going to die.
Okay, so maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration. It just feels like he’s going to die.
Peter slides back into his dead car, closes the door, and rests his forehead against the steering wheel with a heavy sigh. The temperature inside the Camry keeps rising- he can feel every little increase and knows that, once it gets to a certain point, the spider inside of him is going to kick it and he’ll probably pass out.
Awesome. Something to look forward to.
Peter waits in the car for what seems like hours. He doesn’t know what he’s waiting for- death? A God-given miracle? They feel like the same thing right now.
Wow, he really should’ve done drama club back in high school. He’d have been great.
So he waits, and it gets hotter and hotter until he’s forced to take off his flannel. Just as he’s getting ready to get out of the car and walk to the nearest gas station, which (according to Google Maps) is about six miles down the road, a pair of fingers rap against his window.
Drowsy from the sun, Peter traces the line of the fingers up to an elbow, a cuffed flannel shirt, a concerned pair of bright blue eyes, a head of curly hair. His judgment is impaired so, of course, he opens the window for a random stranger in the middle of nowhere and blinks as the sun’s rays filter through.
“You alright, man?” The stranger asks, voice tinged with a thick Southern accent. “Your car break down?”
“Yeah,” Peter breathes, staring into those bright eyes. “Forgot to fill up the tank.”
Hissing in sympathy, the stranger reaches into the car and opens Peter’s door from the inside before leaning down and helping him out. Peter tries to ignore the way his heart is pounding as he’s held close to solid shoulders and thanks God that his face is already red enough to hide what he knows is a rosy blush.
“You look overheated.”
“Prob’ly am. ‘M Peter. Parker.”
He heaves a quiet laugh, leading Peter toward a large black truck idling by the side of the road. “Harley Keener. C’mon.”
It’s a bad idea to let this man take him anywhere, but Peter’s in no state to fight at this point, so he doesn’t. Besides, his spider-sense is suspiciously quiet at the back of his neck. If something was wrong with Harley, he has no doubt that it would be going off.
Peter lets Harley help him into the shotgun seat of the truck and sighs blissfully as cool waves of air hit his face. “You’re a lifesaver, man,” he says, chuckling quietly to himself. “A pretty lifesaver.”
Fully-awake Peter would not have said that.
Peter is not fully awake.
But Harley just laughs and closes the driver’s side, shaking his head. “You’re not so bad yourself, damsel in distress.”
This time, Peter knows that his blush isn’t fully hidden by his overheated face. Harley notices, too, biting his lower lip as he pulls the truck off of the side of the road and starts off in the direction that Peter vaguely remembers the gas station being.
He kind of hates feeling helpless like this, but on the other hand, he loves riding shotgun with Harley Keener.

First car (police Dodge Charger) has been a nightmare and I'm ready to sell it
Long long rant, not a read for everyone but the title is a little self-explanatory. I just need to get all the details off my chest. I had been looking endlessly for cars on Craigslist (original budget $4,000-$5,500). I had my eyes on reliable cars like the Honda Civic and Accord, Nissan Altima, Toyota Corolla and Camry, etc. Until my mom kept mentioning there are a lot of good deals on Dodge Chargers. I was a few states away working for my uncle while looking.
I really liked the way the Chargers looked and thought it would be so cool to own one. We find a 2010 police Charger with 134,000 miles listed for $6,300. From searching the VIN, I find out he paid $3,300 at an online government auction + a few hundred for shipping. I message the guy to see if he'll come down before meeting him. He says no because the price includes taxes and title, etc. I tell my parents how little he paid at auction and that I wasn't so sure since he won't budge on the price.
Mom and dad assure me that it's a great deal. My dad talked to his friend who is a good mechanic and he said it was a very good deal (you'll find out why in a second). EVERYONE on the internet told me it was a horrible deal and I decided to counter the seller with a much smaller offer like the internet told me, he rejected and I said goodbye.
End of that...until on my way back home from a few states away, we're about an hour from our house and my dad calls the seller to say we're almost there (seller is about 45 minutes from our house across the bay so we were stopping there before we got home). Apparently my parents set up the 'appointment' behind my back. Parents didn't know I cancelled so the guy tells them I cancelled. Dad is asking me why I cancelled and that Mr. Bobby (mechanic we've know for years) said it was a great deal. I raise all my concerns but my dad shoots it down and I trust him and the mechanic more than the internet. Dad is able to keep the meeting.
I raise a few questions to the seller about the interior -- scratches on the hood, poorly filled in holes from the equipment or ones that just have metal 'caps' on https://imgur.com/RcmxnxA. Guy selling says it will cost $30 to fill in and it's super simple. Dad says "Yeah, we can get them fixed really easily". Just parroting the seller. I fully believed my dad knew what he was talking about.
We get the car tested by our mechanic's shop, everything is fine. I buy the car for $6,375 (late August 2018, less than 2 months before my 18th birthday). It had been raining all week and during the inspection so I didn't notice some moisture in one of the headlights https://imgur.com/ZqAAeHb -- not a huge deal, just cosmetic as of now. It was a little over a month later when the car broke down and it ended up being something dealing with the fuel tank, cost $400 to fix.
Mr. Bobby (mechanic) says, "You got a good deal at $3,400. At that price a few repairs isn't a big deal". At that moment I realized Mr. Bobby never thought $6,375 was a great deal, my dad just relayed the information completely wrong. My dad has done this with other things in the past. He'll mention information and doesn't explain it well.
So yeah, car broke down again and has been in the shop since last Thursday. It will cost around $500 to fix the radiator, a hose, and some fan. Parents have paid half for both repairs which on one hand I'm thankful for but on the other hand my parents convinced me this was such a great purchase, they gave me complete misinformation (unknowingly so), scheduled behind my back and convinced me to go even after I voiced my concerns many times.
I've realized than neither of my parents know anything about cars. It's unfortunate that I had to come to the realization my dad didn't realize an ex-police Dodge Charger with 134,000 miles for $6,375 isn't worth anywhere near that. What other information do my parents have so wrong? I can't really rely on what they have to say on any issue.
I'm just waiting until the car gets back from the shop to take photos of it and sell it. At least the interior looks really nice. Hopefully I can recoup some of my cost and buy a good car. Lesson learned, I'm just ready to close the chapter on this part of my life.

If in 2018, the Kia Optima seemed to be struggling to keep pace with the Honda Accord or the Toyota Camry - both deeply renewed that year - the renewal that benefits the Optima 2019 makes it a world of good. The latter displays nice changes that allow it to remain competitive in the class of intermediate sedans, which we do not hide, is a segment a little crowded in recent years.
Small changes that change the game
Optima is available in three trim levels, the LX (and LX +), EX (and EX Tech) and SX (and SXL); our test car was the EX, equipped with the Tech Package, which adds a panoramic sunroof, an eight-inch screen for the multimedia system, ventilated front seats and wireless charging.
From the outside, the Optima 2019 comes in the form of an elegant sedan, with a sleek roofline and a well-proportioned set.

A small styling update has been made at the front and rear fascias, new headlights have been integrated, and the model has a new wheel design. The biggest change, however, is the muzzle of the car, which is now more like the Kia Stinger sport sedan. A new choice of 16 ", 17" or 18 "wheels is offered to the buyer depending on the version chosen.
Inside, this sedan signed Kia offers a rather impressive space and very well equipped. In recent years, one of the great strengths of the Altima is the environment it offers that is similar to the more luxurious models seen out of German factories. Although many of its rivals have narrowed the gap in sophistication and build quality, the Optima in 2019 is doing very well, again.
The dashboard has been slightly redesigned to make it a little more modern; I found the instrumentation quite clear and well organized as a whole. All versions of the Optima include heated front seats, and the seats are leather from the EX.
The seats are comfortable and of good quality, as is the whole interior, by the way. The space around the rear seats is perhaps a little reduced in comparison with some of the other cars in its class, especially at the head level, however nothing very disabling.

Like Hyundai, Kia incorporates in its new affordable models features previously reserved for high-end variants. On this side Kia strikes hard to stand out and the least we can say is that it works.
We find the Apple CarPlay integration and Android Auto, no surprises. There is also the push button starter and security updates that have been put in place. There is also front collision alert, automatic emergency braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Attention Assistance and Blind Spot Assist.
This set makes the Optima one of the safest vehicles in its class, while many competitors who do not hesitate to charge some of these options already present in the Optima. The 2019 millet has received the highest safety rating from the IIHS in the US - but beware, this Top Safety Pick + designation only applies to SX variants equipped with available LED headlights.
One of the big news is the implementation of a UVO multimedia system that can integrate with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The EX versions of the Optima 2019 feature the UVO Intelligence system that allows you to diagnose the vehicle on demand and make maintenance alerts.

Under the bonnet
On the mechanical side, the base EX version and the LX variant feature a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine developing 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft in conjunction with a six-speed automatic transmission. The SX version is powered by 245 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque thanks to a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine.
In terms of fuel consumption, the Kia EX officially consumes 9.7 km and 7.1 km / 100 km (city / highway), although my driving week has been with temperatures below freezing. and quite a bit of snow on the road, when I approached these numbers. My total at the end of my week was 11.1 l / 100 km, whereas I estimate I drove in an urban environment about 70% of the time.
Optima's performance in consumption is expected to be much better in the spring, summer, and fall, and even more so for motorists who spend more of their time on major highways than me.

One might have feared that the 2019 Optima would suffer from a six-speed transmission that has become obsolete, but I finally found that this box is not so big a thorn as that. The reports go smoothly for relaxed driving and the downshift is fast. The vehicle has more than three modes of driving, normal, eco and sport.
The initial acceleration provided by the powertrain XE, although it is not bright, is more than acceptable for a sedan whose first vocation is still not deliver extreme sensations. That said, the sport suspension and the D-shaped sport steering wheel that can be delivered (with SX versions) can add an extra dose of spice. In this case, there are also pallets mounted on the steering wheel.
The competition has been renewed, too.
The Kia Optima plays in the same sandbox as the Honda Accord, the Toyota Camry and the Hyundai Sonata, three models that have also been recently remodeled. Who insists on advanced technologies and modernity is not lacking in choice in this category that is full of talent, while it continues to lose feathers against crossovers and SUVs.
Will the Optima be able to defend its corner of the market? One thing is certain, the car has all the assets to do it. Consumers will have the last word, though, and I wonder if the lack of a full-time all-wheel drive system will ultimately drive Canadian consumers to a model like Nissan's 2019 Altima. , whose new generation recently unveiled benefits from such a system.
In terms of rates, the base LX receives a price of $ 26,595, the LX + starts at $ 29,095. It rises to $ 31,295 for the EX and to $ 35,145 when the Tech package is added. The SX Turbo costs at least $ 38,045, while the SXL Turbo receives a starting price of $ 40,645.
The Kia Optima 2019 takes advantage of several changes that make it a real competitor now. Without it totally impressing the gallery in one aspect or another in particular, this car is practical, comfortable and attractive. Ideal for those who love sedans everyday. 2023 Nissan Maxima You may know the Nissan Maxima as a bland sedan brand, destined to become a fleet car for rental companies or taxi services. Over the years, the car did have a few decent versions, among them the SR, which was supposed to be a sportier variant of the mediocre front-wheel-drive mid-size sedan.
To make matters worse, the Maxima dropped the manual option in 2008 and, since then, the powerful 3.5-liter V-6 has had to work with the crippled CVT unit. However, the Nissan Maxima 2023 has the potential to be an attractive proposition. This is the reason.
It was initially believed that the current eighth-generation Maxima would be discontinued sometime in the next two years. This belief was further strengthened by the decline in sales of large sedans, in response to increasing demand for crossovers and SUVs. However, the data shows that not all car owners join the SUV/crossover.
For example, 42 percent of Ford Focus and Chevrolet Cruze owners do not upgrade to a high-riding vehicle. Instead, they choose another similar vehicle from another automaker, which is often a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic.
Despite the crossover/SIV craze, sedans, whether they're compact, mid-size, or full-size, still make up a sizeable percentage of the automotive market. In addition, the sedan has become more versatile than ever. So, how is the Nissan Maxima related?
