due to the ASTOUNDING response to my first jj fic which i have to say a huuuge thank you to everyone that liked, commented & reblogged, it honestly means the absolute world !! i couldn't wait much longer to start writing for my boy again, i have so many fic ideas and cannot wait to get them out to y'all. this one is shorter than the last, & the title is inspired from the song 'she moves in her own way' by the kooks (lol) but isn't necessarily based off of it, it's just something that i wrote up quickly bc i was in my feels™️ . also i feel very unoriginal with the whole plot and aspect of this but im gonna post it anyway bc i love jj lmao. anyway hope u enjoy !

summary: reader walks the fine line between either pogue or kook, though technically a kook, she ignores all social standings of the obx and jj maybank cannot stop himself from getting caught up in her whirlwind.

Everyone seemed to have a different perspective of you, unsurprisingly. You weren't really much of a social butterfly, you kept yourself to yourself, really. Nobody in the Outer Banks knew much about you at all, other than what they had come up with in their heads. And while you tried your best to stay in the shadows, that only seemed to make you stand out more.

You were known for being the best of both worlds - not really a Pogue, but not really a Kook either. While your social status and family wealth suggested you to be a Kook, your free spirit and reckless behaviour fitted you better towards the Pogue style. If anyone were to ask you, you told them you were neither.

Why should a name define you anyway? You thought it was all bullshit, the stupid territorial arguments and the snide comments from both sides. You thought it was ridiculous, you weren't living in The Outsiders, for fuck sake.

You moved in your own way, simple as that. You wouldn't let anyone tell you what to do, where you can't or shouldn't be, it was a free country you'd say, middle finger salute ready to aim towards anyone who dared cross you. You were an enigma, wild and careless, unforgiving and unforgettable. You didn't necessarily like the attention, but you got it. And you knew it, and you played on it, too.

You had used your irresistible charm more than enough times to bail JJ Maybank out of trouble, despite your parents' protest. They didn't have a problem with the Pogues, persay, how could they when your dad been one half of his life before meeting your mom and marrying into the rich lifestyle; they just had a problem with JJ, as many of the parents on the island did. He was an unstoppable force to be reckoned with, weed smoking, knuckles constantly torn, skin bruised, quick wit, sarcastic humour, daddy issues, you know the type. Kids loved him, parents hated him.

You were friends with JJ, you supposed. You spent your time with him talking about your days and smoking a joint, meaningful conversations turning into joking and general tomfoolery within seconds. With JJ, you were simply unapologetically you, and JJ never judged you. He never made you choose a side, seemingly content with the fact that you were a little bit of everything, though there was times when he teased you relentlessly about the Kook life, but that was just JJ.

And despite the social differences, him being a Pogue through and through, you technically a Kook, you were drawn to each other pretty easily. Not that you hung out all the time, but you loved every second when you did, usually joined by his group of best friends - John B, Pope, and Kiara. With Kiara a Kook herself but drawn more to the lifestyle of the Pogue's, she understood you more than anyone. You'd bonded a lot, and with each of them too.

JJ loved that you fitted in with them, like a missing puzzle piece. So perfectly, it shook him to its core. The pair of you were close, but he had no idea where he stood with you, like most people never when it came to you. You were like a rollercoaster, taking people for the most exciting ride of their lives that lasted a full three or so minutes before they returned back to solid ground. You'd given JJ a ride a number of times on your non-existent metaphorical rollercoaster, and he'd returned for another ride time and time again. You couldn't say no to that damned boy.

It was a blessing and a curse, the unspoken relationship you shared. A blessing because JJ was the best thing that happened to you, and a curse because that was your downfall. You never got attached to people, never given yourself the chance. But then JJ Maybank had come along, blonde hair and blue eyes, split lip and sharpened teeth, words cunning. You saw him as a challenge at first, the name Kook Princess haunting you as he spoke them, stood in front of you at the keg upon your first real meeting. He'd held a drink out towards you, smirk perfect on his pink lips.

You'd attended over a hundred kegger's in your lifetime, the Pogue parties more inviting than those of the Kook's. You danced and talked to anyone that came across your path, whether it be unknowing Tourons, unjudging Pogues, or unforgiving Kooks, you drew them all in. You didn't fit in with any of them, JJ had realised. You really did move in your own way, he thought. He liked that, he'd decided. And hey, you were pretty cute too.

On that particular night, he'd spoken to you directly for the first time in a long time. "Would the Kook Princess like a drink?" He'd asked, holding the red cup out towards you. You'd eyed the offended object, and subsequently him, too. He smirked at the attention. You had rolled your eyes.

"Don't call me that," you'd said simply, but taking the cup from his hands regardless. You took a sip, relieved to discover that he hadn't tampered with it in any way. You were still considered a Kook to most people, after all. You could never be too careful. "Thanks, Maybank."

And he'd blinked at you, lips suddenly raising to a sly smile as he shrugged, dimples winking at you as they appeared in his cheeks. "Anytime," and he'd spoken your name back to you and you couldn't get enough of the way it sounded coming from his mouth, and you realised hey, this guy is pretty cute, and the rest, as they, is history.

You were in the midst of another infamous Pogue kegger at the current, months after your first introduction to JJ Maybank and his friends, and you stood off to the side, listening to JJ intently as he ranted about the events of the day he'd endured. Starting from finding a Grady White sunken in the marsh, "A fucking Grady Marsh, they're like 500 G's man!", to discovering that the boat belonged to Scooter Grubbs, who had coincidentally been found dead that same day, to getting chased by two guys with a gun, to the finding of the motel key from the wreck and breaking in that same motel room, finding a safe full of money and a gun of all things, to their best attempt at laying low which, unsurprisingly, resulted in the kegger in the first place.

JJ was wild in his recite of the events, hands gesturing every which way as you watched him with your lips curled into your mouth, resisting a smile at his antics. When he finished he retelling, you raised an eyebrow and chuckled dryly. "So, complete and utter boring day for you, huh?"

JJ chuckled along with you, shaking his head as if he was still in disbelief from everything that had happened in the past twenty four hours. "Man, it was crazy," he muttered. He looked at you then, eyes sincere. "I wish you were there with us. It was like something straight from a movie, I'm telling you. I feel like such a badass with that gun."

Your secret joy at his confession of that he wished you were was short lived, as the last of his words sunk in and you felt dread build in the pit of your stomach. You stared at him, him so excited that he hadn't even realised your face had dropped, before you reached out and grabbed his arm, effectively halting his movements and stopping the hurried flow of words that were leaving his mouth.

"JJ," you said carefully, eyes trained on his as he stared, clueless. "Please tell me you did not take that gun from the safe."

Your heart dropped as you saw him falter, his lips helplessly moving but no words coming out. He held a hand up, as if to hush you, though you hadn't started to speak again, and then his hand had dropped just as quick as it was raised, his teeth biting down on his chapped lip as the realisation dawned on you.

"JJ Fucking Maybank," you spat, hands slapping gently at his arms, because you could never really hurt him, you just wanted him to know you were pissed. "Do you realise how fucking careless that is? How much trouble you could get into, if anyone knew you had a gun-" your voice trailed off, your eyes closing as you exhaled. "JJ, please tell me you don't have it on you right now."

His lack of reply was the only answer you needed, and your stomach churned as you stepped back from his figure, suddenly feeling sick. He followed you, though, not letting you get too far as he took your arms in his hands and tried to drag you closer to him once more. You shook your head, arms slipping from his hold as you glared at him fiercely.

"That's so fucking stupid, JJ. You could get into serious trouble with this, trouble I won't be able to get you out of." You warned, because you knew it was true. Your charm and looks could get him out of some trouble to its extent, but it was more so your parents wealth and status that got the both of you out of shit when you managed to get into it, and you also knew your parents would literally throw a fit if you got involved in something like this - carrying a gun was no joking matter. You stepped back once more, hand finding its way to your forehead. "And from a crime scene, no less. Fucking hell."

JJ licked his lips, standing back roughly as you watched, his jaw clenching. "Well I'm not asking for your help here, Princess," he taunted, the nickname sending a wave of annoyance through you. JJ knew it would. "It's not like I ask you to help me, you're just there. Thinking I need help, like I'm some fucking charity case, a fucking doll you picked up from the thrift store that was gonna be thrown out the next day."

You tried to protest, but JJ didn't give you the chance. "I don't need your help all the fucking time. I don't need your pity. I get that you won't understand because why would you? You're a Kook, you get everything you want handed to you on a silver platter. And you can argue and fight me about it all you want, but I know you know it's true."

He sighed heavily, hands running down his face in a sign of defeat. You watched him all the while, thankful that you had ventured off the outskirts of the party so that hopefully nobody had heard JJ shouting at you, your heart wrenching as his blue eyes settled on you. "I'm sorry, JJ," you said finally. You refused to cry, though the desire to at the sight of him being so mad at you tore you apart. "I'm just trying to look out for you. With the gun thing, with everything that I help you with. And I know I'm a Kook, and I know that my parents could afford to buy half of this fucking island if they pleased, but that doesn't define me. I care, okay? And I know I care a lot more than a lot of people in your life."

It was probably a low blow, and you knew it. But JJ took it in, let the words sink into his brain where they stayed there, his fists clenching at his sides. You crossed your arms over your chest, defeated.

"I'm gonna go back to the party," you whispered. "I'll see you around, I guess." You eyed his pockets, unsure of where exactly he held the gun. "Be careful, okay."

And even when you were angry with him, you still tried to make sure he was okay, that he stayed safe. There was multiple occasions you'd showed up unannounced, simply asking how his day was, if he okay, if he had eaten that day, stayed hydrated. At first the attention startled him, he'd never really had anyone look out for him in that aspect, and yet there you were, like an angel sent from the gods themselves, smiling down at him.

You cared, he realised. You cared so much that sometimes he couldn't take it, because he didn't know how. The most family he'd ever gotten close to having in his life was the Pogues, after losing his mother and subsequently losing his father too as he turned into the monster that he was, cold and distant, fists always poised ready for an imaginary fight, and he knew that someday the Pogues would even slip through his fingers. He couldn't let that happen with you. He wouldn't.

He'd started off in your direction, truly, he had. But then John B was grabbing him and averting his attention to him, and he focused on his friend, promising only a minute of his time. You were in his sights, stood a bit away, and he recognised the couple you were talking to as Sarah Cameron and Topper Thorton, Kooks through and through. He held his distaste back, and even held a drink out to offer to Sarah as she and Topper made their way past where he and John B were standing. Big fucking mistake, he realised quickly.

It had all happened in a blur of events, each little bit leading to big finale - as he watched his best friend being held down in the water, powerless to Topper who kneeled over him, hands forcing John B to stay put in the sea. Sarah was screaming at Topper, Pope was holding JJ back with all his might, Kie beside them as she screamed along with Sarah to let John B go. And there you were, suddenly beside JJ, gripping his arm tightly as you took in the sight with a horrified glare. JJ didn't even hesitate; the gun had been pulled from his shorts and was directed at Topper's head in the blink of an eye.

The fury in his veins was red hot and ugly, tearing through every part of him like a vice. This was the Pogues land, their side of the island, and yet the Kooks still thought they could get away with anything and everything - including, apparently, attempting to drown his best friend.

"Your move, broski," JJ uttered through clenched teeth. He could hear the screams of the crowd behind him, and he pulled the gun away from Topper's head and into the direction of the sky, firing two shots towards it as the crowd of people quickly dispersed, screeches sounding from all over. "Now everybody needs to get the fuck off our side of the island!"

He was shoved to the side as Sarah rushed to her boyfriend, telling him he was fucking crazy or something like that, he wasn't really listening. The shots rang in his ears, and the adrenaline of the moment soured through him. Kie and Pope were screaming at him, he could hear their voices distantly. His blue eyes were unfocused for a second, before they looked up, and there you were.

Sent from the gods themselves, once again. You looked vibrant, so insanely alive, lips red and cheeks flushed, eyes bright. You let out a shaky breath as you watched him. JJ clenched his jaw.

"He was going to drown John B," he thought he'd said, but he wasn't sure. He didn't really know what to keep track of at that moment, Kie and Pope's obvious disapproval at him literally doing the one thing they swore not to do, Sarah and Topper stumbling away from the scene in the distance, John B getting up and muttering something along the lines of he wasn't going to drown me, or you, simply staring at him.

Before he knew what he was doing, JJ had made his way towards you. The gun was still held in his hands, and you swallowed thickly as you eyed it. "You should put that away," you muttered. JJ seemed confused, before he caught on to what you meant and he shoved the gun back to the spot of in between his shorts and his hip. "You literally did the one thing I said not to, you tool."

JJ cracked a smile, small and uncertain as he gazed at you. You stepped closer to him, eyes glancing over his shoulder. "You really pissed them off," you said, meaning his friends.

JJ shrugged, because he didn't care about their opinion, he cared about yours. And if you hated him now, hated the fact that he was just some dirty Pogue who held guns against people's heads now, apparently. "I don't care about what they think," he spoke softly. You looked at him confused. "I care about what you think."

You smiled softly, shrugging one shoulder. "Topper was going to drown John B," you replied, matter of fact. "If you hadn't stepped in when you did, who knew what could have happened. Nothing could have stopped him." You bit your lip, hand reaching out and touching his face gently, thumb soothing over the worried line between his brows. "You did the right thing, J. A fucking crazy and stupid thing, potientally dangerous, but the right thing nonetheless."

"Yeah, that's kind of my go-to, if you haven't already noticed," JJ smiled, tongue running over his bottom lip. You rolled your eyes, though playful. "Look, I'm sorry about before, okay. I was a dick. I know you care, but sometimes that's what scares me."

Your eyebrows furrowed, a confused expression on your face as your hand dropped from his face to intertwine with his own hand, his gaze suddenly becoming fixed on your linked hands, his other absentmindedly playing with your fingers that held his hand.

"It's like, you're this untouchable thing. I mean, you don't belong to anyone, you refuse to go by anything other than your name, and you're like this perfect mix between Pogue and Kook even if you do hate it and everyone knows who are you and they make these stories up about you, like that's how popular you are," JJ chuckled. "And then you hang out with me, you look past all the dirty Pogue shit, see me for who I am, and you care. And you care so god dammed much that it fucking terrifies me because nobody's ever cared that much before about me, so why should you?"

His hand left yours to remove the hat from sitting atop his hair and then run his hand through the blonde locks. You could see his tongue running along the outsides of his bottom teeth, the action causing a bump beneath his skin. He looked nervous than you had ever seen him before, and you'd both gotten into enough nerve-wracking situations together to compare. You sighed as your hands reached for his face, gripping his cheeks and forcing his eyes to gaze down at yours.

"JJ Maybank," you started, grinning softly. "You listen to me while I tell you that you deserve the fucking world and more. All this shit that you're going through, all the crap you deal with on a daily basis, you carry it so well that nobody would even know. You fight through each day and I don't even know how you manage it half the time. I admire you so much, J. And I can't help but care about you, even if you don't want me to. I care about you so much, that you wanna know a secret? It scares me too."

JJ gazed down at you lovingly, his forehead moving to rest against yours. You welcomed the embrace, his arms wrapping around your waist and squeezing you gently, as if reassuring himself that you were actually there.

"JJ," you whispered as you were stood in silence for a precise minute, neither of you daring to break the silence until you had. His blue eyes stared into yours, awaiting the next part of your speech. You swallowed your nerves down, figuring fuck it. "I'm so in love with you."

He grinned, his head swooping down before you knew it and his lips pressing against yours in a heated embrace that sent a sensation of butterflies to fly wildly in your stomach, bashing against your ribcage and taking your breath away. Shivers flew up your spine, and every hair on your body stood on edge as the kiss grew heavier, tongues brushing and teeth clattering, bodies pressed against each other as much as they could manage.

When JJ's lips left yours, you almost whined. JJ grinned cheekily, hands digging into your hips. "I love you," he breathed against the skin of your neck as he buried his head there, lips tickling the flesh. "I can't believe you just macked on me while I have a gun in my pocket."

You rolled your eyes and tugged gently on his hair, spurring a laugh from him as you shoved him away and grinned despite yourself. "Do not remind me, please," you warned him, allowing him to pull you into his side as you made your way down the beach. "I still can't believe you took that thing."

"I knew it'd come in handy though," he grinned, pulling you closer with the arm thrown over your shoulder. You wrapped yours around his waist, face squished in his chest as you shook your head.

sO cassidy is the oldest of five kiddos. she’s got a twin brother that she’s older than by ten minutes, a half brother (13), and two half sisters (15 and 11)

cass and her twin brother were born in ashmont, ct to rebecca turner and an unknown man (to the twins anyway). their mom always claims it was a fling. he was a musician, and he had left before she found out she was pregnant.

so here you have a 20 year old suddenly now raising twins on her own. she actually did pretty well for the most part and raised her kids to be gr8

cassidy doesn’t ever TRY to be bitter abt it but sometimes it just,,,, happens??? and she hates herself for it bc he didn’t know but how do u leave a pregnant lady on her own idk

when the twins were four, their mom met a man and eventually married him!! they had three kids over the next few years, which now upped the kiddo count to 5 and they were one big happy family!!!

tbh cass saw him as her father, since he was around from when she was really young, and he was a big part of her life growing up

around this time she met daisey and the two became fast friends!! they spent basically every day together throughout their childhood (more on that later)

but THEN, tragedy struck (bc why would i let my muses be happy who do u think i am)

when cassidy was 15, her step father unexpectedly passed away, and the family was left without any direction. they didn’t have a lot of money to begin with, but now one income to feed six people was not an easy task.

with the combination of grieving, money stress, and probably fear, her mother fell into a deep depression, finding a coping mechanism through booze. she lost her job along the way, and slowly the money that was left was fading fast.

cass and her twin brother basically took that as a sign that they needed to take responsibility to keep their family alive, so they immediately took up any jobs they could find, just to keep money coming in.

most of their paychecks went into a bank account that would help the kids get by, since their mother didn’t do much of anything to help anymore.

this situation really tore up cassidy’s relationship with her mom, and most of what she feels is resentment and anger towards her mother, even though her brother doesn’t have that same opinion.

around this same time, her friendship with daisey started to fall apart, quicker than she would have imagined. it was a natural drift, coming apart due to daisey’s increasing popularity and cassidy’s lackthereof. nothing was malicious, which made it even tougher. she still misses that friendship sometimes, despite what others say about the girl.

throughout high school, cassidy worked her hardest to get high grades, because she knew that without a scholarship she wouldn’t be able to afford college otherwise.

she hardly got anything below an A, was involved in everything club that she could, and graduated as the salutatorian. she worked hard enough to receive enough scholarship money to cover most of her cost in school.

she’s currently in her final year as a musical theatre major!!!! she’s a nerd abt it too don’t open up a conversation about theatre unless u wanna lose a few hours

cassidy has been involved in so many creative arts let me tell u. she discovered her first love in theatre at seven years old, which was soon followed by singing and dance lessons within the year. throughout the next decade, her love for the performing and the visual arts only grew over time, and some new passions were also discovered.

she also found that she had a talent in photography and writing when she was in high school after a friend convinced her to sign up for the yearbook. what started as just a way to gain another credit and add to her college applications turned into a passion that she would continuously want to pursue. it wouldn’t be her career, but she’d always find a way to keep doing it.

because of these passions, it was no surprise that cassidy would take to social media as another creative outlet. what started out as just posting videos from theatre performances on youtube began to grow into something more, and before she knew it, she was a recognizable name on the platform. she hadn’t planned on becoming an internet personality, but now that she has, she wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

cassidy has been actively posting videos on youtube for about three years now (essentially since starting college), and her channel currently has about 120 thousand subscribers. her channel mainly focuses on theatre related content, vlogs, advice, and a handful of videos related to bullet journaling and challenges.

a lil hc- cass’ channel is basically a mix of katherine steele and jenna marbles

she also has a pretty strong following on instagram, so she’s all abt aesthetics and making her page always look neat and pretty

cassidy can be described as a walking advice column disguised as a mom friend. she is incredibly warm and welcoming, (which can even be seen in the clothes she chooses to wear), and she always has a kind word or smile to give anyone that crosses her path on a day to day basis.

she has been known in the past to strike up a conversation with a stranger, just because she liked their shirt, or they share the same coffee order. if someone comes up to her on the street needing advice, she’ll give it to them in a heartbeat, even it’s a simple “dump him”. she’d probably give you the shirt off her back if you asked her nicely (pls ask nicely)

she doesn’t like to make a habit of sharing some of the deep dark past things that were mentioned earlier, mainly because of how many of her classmates come from money. because of this, she’s never truly felt like she fit in amongst the wealthy community that attends and surrounds the university. she’s always trying to fit in with her peers, but nothing ever seems to be enough.

ever since the news of daisey’s disappearance, cassidy has truly been at a loss for words, or even thoughts. for almost fifteen years of her life, there had hardly been a day where cassidy wouldn’t see daisey’s face, even in passing between classes after their friendship ended. since then, she still looks for her as she walks around campus, as if the whole thing was a dream, and daisey rutherford is still around and running st. etienne university.

A sister has decided to continue whatever this is. I have loose plans for this, and idk how good it is bc im not dedicating as much time to it as my own personal projects. im just doing this for fun, so I hope y’all enjoy! “Nightmare tried to save you?” Oscar’s eyes bulged. “The chick took down Frostbite’s entire team and neutralized all of them except for Stingray. Not to mention that she’s an Anarchist, you know, the worst enemy of the Renegades.” He raised a finger. “Also, side note, how the hell did she come into possession of Agent N? That stuff hasn't even been revealed to the public yet.”

“I stole Genissa’s powers,” Max reminded them, glaring. “But Nightmare made her do it. She knocked her out when Genissa refused to give her powers to me to help me.”

“But why?” Adrian muttered. “Max, Ace told me in the catacombs that Nightmare is his niece." Adrian saw Ruby nod in agreement from beside him. “Clearly, she knows who you are and what you can do. That means she must know that it was you who took Ace Anarchy’s powers from him ten years ago. If anything, she would want revenge on you the most.” His voice had dropped so low that he wondered if the others could comprehend his words. It stung, how Nightmare could have such motives against an innocent kid, but it was the truth. The fact that, according to Max, she had tried to save him was unfathomable.

“I don’t know.” Max shrugged feebly, although there was a hesitation to his voice, as though he was hiding something. Adrian bit the inside of his cheek. “That’s just what I can remember.” His eyes became droopy suddenly, and he leaned back against the pillows.

“We should go,” Ruby piped up, offering a smile. She grabbed both Oscar and Adrian by their arms. Adrian notice Oscar jolt at the contact. “Max is still recovering, and he needs his rest.” When Max started to protest, she tsked. “Nope. We actually have to go...fill out some forms. And with Danna still in swarm mode, we have to help her. C’mon, guys.” It was a lame excuse, but she tugged at Adrian and Oscar, who followed her. They all chorused a goodbye to Max, who returned it with a grumpy voice.

“The more we learn about this chick, the more confused I get,” Oscar muttered once they were out of earshot of Max’s quarantine. “Not to mention that she seems to have a lot against your family, Adrian. I mean, first with your dad, then that thing about your mom, then your own little rivalry, and now Max.” Oscar shook his head.

“Very strange,” Ruby agreed. The three of them paused at the elevator. Oscar pressed the down button. “And what Oscar said earlier brings up a whole new mystery: How does she have Agent N?”

Adrian was quiet, even as they stepped into the elevator. Finally, he spoke, once the elevator started moving. “She’s immune to Max as well, like she knew about his powers.” A thought moved to the front of his brain. A terrible, horrible, but believable thought. One that sent a chill down his arms. One look at Ruby and Oscar told him that they must have been thinking the same thing.

“I think Nightmare is a Renegade.”

“Nightmare? A Renegade?” Simon shook his head in disbelief as he added seasoning to the pot in front of him, filled with chili. Hugh, who was assembling a salad, barked out a laugh.

“Out of all your theories, that’s my favorite one,” he said, mixing in a vinaigrette. Upon seeing Adrian’s unamused visage, however, the grin plastered on his face disappeared. He cleared his throat. “Adrian, the probability of that is slim. The system looks into every single record of every Renegade, and fingerprints are taken to ensure that they aren’t in our list of criminals before trials. None of the fingerprints or records match up with Nightmare.”

Adrian resisted the urge to groan. He tapped his fingers against the countertop restlessly. “She’s Ace Anarchy’s niece,” which got him a knowing nod. This information had been brought to them immediately following Ace Anarchy’s arrest. “Which means,” Adrian continued, frustrated, “that someone with blood relations to him could be in the system, right?”

His dads exchanged glances. Never a good sign. Simon was the one to speak. “We would have been notified long ago if that was the case, and she would be in our custody.”

“Also,” Hugh added, holding a finger up, ”Ace Anarchy has no known living family. From our records, his parents passed away years ago, he never married, and his only brother and his family is dead, killed during the Age of Anarchy. Nightmare may be working for him, but it is highly unlikely that she is his blood related niece. It’s more likely that he took her in and she called him uncle.��

“How do you know all of that?” Adrian’s eyebrows shot up, and he perked up in interest. This was new to him. Maybe something he could use for investigation.

“You have to know your enemy.” Hugh shrugged simply.

“Okay...then how do you explain how she was able to use gas bombs filled with Agent N to take out Frostbite’s team?” Adrian pressed, leaning on the counter. “The public doesn’t know about it yet, so how does she? And Max. She was immune to Max, right? How do you explain that if Max’s power is confidential?”

Hugh started taking out bowls and silverware and glasses for the three of them. He sighed. “We’ve been discussing that with the Council, actually. Adrian, listen, after everything she did that night, she’s at the top of our wanted list. We’re doing everything we can to catch her. We want her brought to justice just as much as you, but we have to do it the right way. This is our job to worry about, not yours.”

“Max said Nightmare tried to save his life,” Adrian said suddenly, sitting up straight. Simon paused his stirring; Hugh paused from arranging the table.

“What?” Simon raised an eyebrow, blinking.

“Nightmare tried to save Max,” Adrian slowly repeated.

“That’s...very hard to believe, Adrian.” Hugh stroked his chin in contemplation. “Even coming from Max. He’s been drugged up for two weeks now on medication. You can’t trust everything he says. Just last week he told me that the color yellow tastes like chicken.”

“He was pretty awake today.” Adrian shrugged, not sure what to do. They had a point. He just wanted to be right. “He also said that it was Frostbite who stabbed him. It was on accident, of course.”

“That’s a very serious accusation.” Simon turned off the stove. “Unfortunately, we have no surveillance footage of that night, or we would have evidence. Genissa Clark is in no mental state to be questioned right now, nor are the rest of her team. They are very upset and shaken from their fight with Nightmare. It would be disrespectful to harass them with questions.”

“I know,” Adrian grumbled. Genissa’s entire team was currently in bi weekly therapy sessions after the aftermath of the night of the gala. Their fates had yet to be decided by the council: whether or not they could still be Renegades despite all but one having been stripped of their powers. Adrian knew that it was horrible that they were neutralized, but secretly, he was glad they were no longer prodigies. None of them deserved the title of Renegade, especially after they killed Hawthorne and put it on the Sentinel, Adrian’s secret alias.

“Now, as for the Nightmare Being a Renegade conspiracy theory.” Hugh leaned back against the sink, arms crossed. Adrian could tell that his dad wanted to end the conversation. “It is highly impossible that Nightmare has gotten through the system and is a Renegade. We can’t answer all of your questions right now though, Adrian, because we are as stumped as you. We do know, however, that she is very dangerous and cannot be underestimated, especially with the knowledge that she is connected to Ace Anarchy on more than an ally level, that perhaps he was her mentor.”

“We made the mistake of not prioritizing her before, and we won’t make the same mistake twice,” Simon added, nodding as he poured hot chili into three bowls.

“You were so sure about the helmet, and look what happened.” Adrian waved a hand in front of him, growing annoyed with his dads, as much as he hated it. “Nightmare was able to break the box and take the helmet. Yet another mystery.”

Both of his dads sighed. Adrian could feel the frustration and tension on both sides. “Adrian, you need to be able to trust that we are handling the situation.” When Adrian opened his mouth to protest, Simon shushed him. “Neither of us want to hear anything more about Nightmare tonight, understand? You need to let it go.”

Biting the inside of his cheek, Adrian grumbled out a “yes”. He kept his mouth shut through dinner, letting his dads talk about their day and about the latest TV show they were watching.

Adrian wasn’t going to talk about Nightmare anymore, but he had an investigation he needed to start.

summary: Y/N and Thor meet up at a bar

Y/N and Thor sat an empty bar. There was some people scattered here and there but it was mostly empty.

There was an older couple playing pool, an old man at the jukebox - the light above flickered again for about the thousandth time.

The bar has been empty for years now, the regulars kept it alive and occasionally two mobsters did as well. The two young mobsters would meet here in private, occupied the same booth every time in the corner of the bar, talked to each other in hushed tones, and eventually left sometime after midnight separately.

The two have been meeting in more open, but still secluded areas, ever since Y/N has finally gained the throne on her side of the town. Her father had gotten sick a few months back and since then, she has been able to do what she wants. She no longer had to fear what her father, her superior, would do if he found that one of his crew members, especially the crew member being his daughter, was dating his biggest rival in the city.

The only problem now was her and Thor still had to sneak around. Thor was still under his father's rule which meant that they still ran the risk of going to war with each other if his father found out about his son dating his new rival.

"My step mom knows," Y/N admitted and sighed. Her finger running over the edge of her cup. Her eyes looked up and scanned Thor's face, trying to read his reaction to the news but he showed no emotions. "She says she won't tell my dad."

Then, Thor broke out in a grin and reached for his water. He loved Y/N, with all his heart, but he couldn't help but envy her for the freedom she was granted. She answered to no one and everyone answered to her. She called the shots while he carried them out for someone else. She didn’t have to fear anyone looking over her shoulder still while he still did.

"It's not like he can do anything about it now," Thor replied and winked, causing her to mirror his smile. "You are the boss."

She nodded and leaned forward, her eyes searching his while a wicked smile playing on her lips. Strands of hair falling in front of her face causing Thor to stretch his hand out to her and push them out of the way behind her ear. His gentle touches caressed her cheek when she leaned into his touch.

made them forget what kind of life they grew up and were leading in. They were two different people outside of their mobster lives. They were just two kids in love running around the city in places were no one knew them or where people feared them enough that they wouldn't ever mention seeing them together to anyone.

"You know," she started, her voice low enough so no one can hear her. "You can always join m-"

"The rivarly will never stop then," Thor reasoned and leaned closer, their noses centimeters from touching. "My dad will start a war, quite literally too. When I become the boss, then we can truly live, my lady."

She raised a brow, crossing her arms on the table. "Aw, I was hoping I'd have a cute henchman. I suppose I can always ask that kid, Peter Pa-"

"You better not," Thor snapped and leaned in closer, locking his soft lips with hers. His jealous side quickly taking over, just the thought of another man being close to her when he couldn't, had his skin boiling. "Don't even think about it," he mumbled into the kiss before pulling away, her lipstick stain smeared on and around his lips but he didn't bother wiping it off. Either he didn't know or he didn't care to wipe it off.

"There's party going on next week," she winked and leaned back into her side of the booth. Her smile mischievous and her hand extended across the table, her fingers playing with his. “Think you can make it?”

Thor raised a brow. He was still getting used to Y/N being the new mobster in town. Some of her crew already knew about the two but they still had to stay on the look out for his father and his crew.

“I’m going away tomorrow night,” He explained and took hold of her small hand in his. She frowned and let out a deep sigh, she wanted to come clean to her whole crew already and rip the band-aid off. The longer she put this off and her crew found out about their relationship and the reveal didn’t come from her, they might never take her leadership seriously.

They didn’t even take her leadership seriously the first few months all because they saw her as a spoiled little princess trying to fill her daddy’s shoes and she couldn’t afford to lose their trust now.

“I’ll be gone for a few weeks, there this new business deal my dad is trying to secure,” Thor explained, rubbing his thumb against the skin of her hand, trying to soothe her hurt. If he could, he would find a way to get out of going to this business deal but he was trying to prove himself worthy of inheriting the mobster throne that was currently occupied. “Baby, if I have to go, I’ll make sure to call you on the hotel’s phone,” he told her and brought her hand to his lips, her big, dark eyes watching him as he pressed a gentle kiss to the back of her hand.

Thor was always a gentleman with her. He was always sweet and he treated her right. He was a complete opposite of who he was when he played mobster. He had to put on his tough act, follow orders, and carry weapons on his person 24/7. His reputation was nowhere near hers but he still managed to scare people off.

“Well, when you come back,” she said in a hushed tone tightening her hand in his as he still held her hand against his lips. “You come straight back to me.”

“Always, my darling,” he winked and kissed her hand again, his lips breaking into a grin as he pulled her hand so she can come around the table and sit beside him.

Her hand was still locked with his while her free hand played with the back of his hair. He knew what she was doing. She was trying to distract herself. Every time he went away, his father had him doing the most just to prove himself and most of the times, it wasn't the safest things Thor did.

"Tell me what it’s like to be the boss,” he his eyes met her. He was trying to read her but she made it almost impossible to do so, she has mastered the arts of a blank face.

She smiled but it didn’t quite reach her eyes. The sneaking around over the past few years has been catching up to them lately and she has been growing impatient and sick of it.

“Well, I have about thirty men or more, I’m not sure, never bothered to really know everyone, to do all my dirty work for me,” she grinned when she saw Thor stifle a laugh.

“So you haven’t gone on a single business deal in a while now?”

She shook her head, her fingers still playing with the ends of his hair, pulling him closer to her. She leaned her head against his and her lips ghosted over his. “Enough talk about business. When you inherit your position,” she said in her hushed tone, even though she did not have to worry about anyone in the bar hearing her. “We can merge our thrones and you know, not have to sneak around anymore.”

Thor chuckled under his breath, his eyes closing and he pecked her lips. “Kind of like the thrill of sneaking around with you,” he whispered and kissed the corner of her lips. “Tell me, my love, when I’m in charge now, what are your plans for the city?”

He felt her hot breath against his skin as she moved her head slightly to whisper at his ear. “We’re going to be one of the biggest gangs in the city, baby.” She felt him grin and it caused her heart to speed up.

LAMP Soulmate AU Bc I'm Original

Warnings for minor character death (only mentioned in the little backstory part), past foster homes, and a very tiny mention of blood.

For a little background, Logan and Virgil are both foster kids who grew out of the system, Patton lived with only his mom before he moved out, and Roman’s parents are a happily married mother and father (although Roman didn't see it that way; he thought that soulmates were the only way to be happy) who still live together with Roman off doing his own thing.

Logan's parents were killed by a drunk driver and Virgil's mom was killed by a mugger. Virgil's father abandoned him in favor of uselessly looking for another soulmate (that didn't exist) for the rest of his life.

More backstory for the Soulmate au here! I recommend you read it before reading this, but it isn't required!

You couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. Birds were singing, flowers were blooming. Spring sweetness rested comfortably in the air, just waiting to be taken in with a huge breath with closed eyes.

Everyone was enjoying the beautiful weather. Exect...

Virgil had a meeting with his boss. He was late, of course he was. He only set one alarm. Virgil knew perfectly well he needed at least three to get him up in the morning, but in a pure moment of genius last night he decided that he would only set one so he could “turn his life around” or some bullshit like that. Now he was really paying the price. Running through the park (a shortcut to the office, he hoped) with his phone, keys, and coffee in one hand; his conference papers and data sheets in the other; and a bagel stuffed in his mouth from the coffee place; Virgil looked down to check his phone. Not late yet.

Patton woke up feeling crappy. Nothing was inherently wrong, he was just sort of sad. His mood obviously couldn't last, so he set out to fix it. He made a healthy breakfast and made his way out into the misty morning air. His mother once told him the park was a perfect place for calming down, so he made his way to stop and smell the flowers. “I need this,” Patton decided in a whisper as he bent over to inspect a dew covered daisy with a melancholy smile.

Another day, another date - for Roman at least. Searching for one's true love every day gets tiresome, but he couldn't help but hope. Would this be the one? The handsome man destiny finally would bestow upon him?

In all honesty, he probably wasn't going to meet his soulmate today. He had been on so many dates this year it wasn't even funny. People looking for their soulmate, people trying to move on without one. Not every date ended in goodbyes (he even has gained his some of his most valued friends from matches on soulmatch.love.com), but more often than not the date will start out with disappointment at not finding their soulmate then polite small talk for the duration of the date.

Regardless of past experiences, Roman was determined to keep trying. He couldn't expect his soulmate to fall out of the sky. Sheepishly, he looked up at the clouds just in case. You could never be too sure about your soulmate’s whereabouts, after all.

Logan had to go grocery shopping today. If he didn't go today, he would put it off until next week and it would never get done. It was a struggle, living alone and trying to find a better job after growing out of the foster system, but nothing that Logan couldn't handle. If he was being honest with himself, what he hated most about his current situation (besides the crippling loneliness he needed someone to talk to-) was grocery shopping. It was mundane and he found it embarrassing having to count out his money in front of everyone to see if he could afford something remotely nutritious like some fruit.

Obviously, he had the contents of his wallet memorized to the dime, but when he found himself wanting that head of lettuce this week instead of the shitty ramen he somehow pulled out his wallet every time.

In fact, Logan was bringing it out now. If he checked for the fourth time now he might be able to resist doing it in the store. Yep. Still six dollars and twenty cents.

Patton's eyes on the daisies, Roman's face turned towards the sky, Logan’s hands fingering through his few dollars, and Virgil's focus on his phone. Each heading towards each other at various speeds from different directions.

They collided.

Papers and dollars fly up. Phones and pens fall to the ground. Coffee spills. Hands are thrust out to catch their falls. Knees scrape against the pavement. Limbs collide and smash against each other.

It was like one of those action movies where the hero is dodging bullets in slow motion minus “coming out unscathed”.

Logan was the first to make a move. He extracted his legs from the the heap of bodies and uttered a, “Terribly sorry.”

This snapped Patton out of his daze, smiling his brightest smile. “You're completely fine. I'm sorry! I should have looked where I was going.”

"No, I was checking my phone and was rushing. I totally fell into you.” Virgil piped up with a grimace, clambering to his feet in the process.

Roman stayed on the ground surrounded by ruined paper and coffee. He didn't seem to care that said liquid was all down his shirt. He was staring at his side, exposed by the crop top he wore to impress guys.

“Who is it?” Roman said in awe.

Patton fell to his knees next to Roman, wondering if he was hurt. “Who is what?”

Roman turned his head away, then back to himself like his eyes might be deceiving him. Then, grinning like a mad man, he shifted so the others could see the elaborate swirl wrapping his stomach on one side. “Who's my soulmate?”

Patton rolled up his left sleeve at the exact moment Virgil shifted the rip in his jeans on his lower thigh and Logan pulled up his right pants leg. Like a foot recovering from falling asleep, their tattoos demanded to be recognized. They were making moves to see them even before Roman had said anything.

Slowly looking from each tattoo to the next, they all realized that the tattoo was the same on each of them (though it varied in size, placement, and hue). “It appears that we are all soulmates.” Logan stated dumbly.

“Oh.” Roman said, not quite grasping the situation. After a second, Logan's words began to sink in. “Oh! Oh my god!”

Roman couldn't believe his flipping fantastic luck. After years of searching far and wide he, by chance, bumps into three wonderfully good looking people who are all his soulmate. He didn't have one person to love and cherish and spend eternity with, he had three!

Patton was just as delighted. Three soulmates! Who had even heard of such a thing! Looking at each of them with the same love and interest, Patton began to forget there was a such thing as bad days. These people were the missing pieces of the puzzle that he had forgotten were missing in the first place. He had never pegged too much of his heart in soulmates, but now he was sure he needed his soulmates more than he needed air or food or anything that he thought was important before. He can't believe he survived this long without them.

Virgil forgot everything he had ever thought about soulmates when he lay eyes on his beautiful entanglement of vines and swirls. In that moment he no longer cared about risks and consequences and his trashy past. Suddenly life seemed to roll out in front of him like a red carpet, waiting for the first steps that lead to a utopian life. His father was the farthest from Virgil's mind than it had ever been.

Logan could not have been more bewildered. The statistics were astronomically small that Logan would have two soulmates, let alone three! Heck, he didn't even think he would get one. Loan crouched on the ground next to Roman to inspect his tattoo. It was indeed the same as the one wrapping his own ankle. Who would have thought that someone like Logan with so little hope for a soulmate would receive such an experience as three.

They all felt wonderful. Surprised and confused and a little scared, maybe. But with each of them standing in front of the other with the promise of forever love was too good of a feeling to experience anything negative.

Besides, it just felt right. And wasn't that reason enough to feel like everything in the world was perfect?

this one’s too long but i figured you’d enjoy this too. my friends, and myself are convinced my house is haunted as well. (it got v long, but here ya go):

My dad’s friend(John) bought this house when him and his wife got married and they had their 3 kids with them. 1 boy, 2 girls. One of the girls themselves said that the bedroom the girls slept in is haunted. When him and his wife got a divorce, my dad bought it from him and he moved in with his friends, and my uncle. My uncle moved into the room the girls were in and did tarot cards in there. (They’re all v christian so this is a big nono to them. i have refused to tell them i’m practicing magic bc of their reaction).

Now my dad, growing up, lived next to an old Native American village. (you can guess where this is going) there was a bank that him and his friends all called ‘dead man’s cliff’ (it wasn’t a cliff at all) but they used to tear old pottery out of the dirt and take it home. when they started doing construction in that area idk how many years later, they had to delay it because of the village, and whatever legal laws there were around that. but then construction ended up going through idk how long it took to clear the legal issues. But my dad still has a full bag of pottery in our attic. still.

So then my dad met my mom, they get married, and she moves in with him. they have 3 kids, 1 boy and 2 girls (me and my sister). well one night, my mom was sleeping and my dad was watching a movie, and she tries screaming for him for like 2 hours but by the time she actually can scream for him he has no clue why and she said it felt like something was sitting on her, and she couldn’t scream. so my theory is sleep paralysis, people claim it’s linked to spirits around you, idk details. our brother is the oldest and when they first had him they had him sleeping in the ‘girls room’ where John’s girls were. over the next couple weeks my brother (still a baby) kept having really bad dreams, like waking up screaming dreams, and a couple weeks later, my dad is putting my brother to bed, he’s sound asleep as my dad is praying over him. and he said my brother went straight up, almost hit the ceiling, like something threw him straight up. he caught him like 6 inches off his mattress. so the next day they had their friends come over and walk the house and pray through it and everything stopped after that.

now what gets me the most is John and his wife had 3 kids, again 2 girls 1 boy. they had issues, got divorced, ect. then my dad gets married, has 3 kids, 2 girls 1 boy, and they’ve had issues my whole life. they’re currently deciding whether or not to get divorced. my mom no longer lives here. but like 6 months ago, my boyfriend, our baby, myself, and his friend move back in with my dad since my mom left. they both literally have said the house makes you sick. you can feel the drain the minute you step inside the house. my bf, our daughter, and i are in my brothers room, and his friend is in the ‘girls room’. and his friend said he can’t sleep till the sun comes up. just can’t fall asleep no matter how tired he is, unless he’s been up already for like 26+ hours. i used to be in that same room growing up and me and my sister (purposely or not, whether we knew or not) wouldn’t sleep either. we’d stay up all night watching tv, then pass out like 530-6 am. but it’s down to where when you’re here, you don’t feel energized, you don’t want to do anything (like a mild depression kind of state) and so you never want to leave the house. but then when you finally get up and go out, like we go visit a friend, you instantly feel better. just leaving the house, going in the backyard even, just out of the walls, you feel instant relief.

now the real kicker.

my bf’s friend that moved in with us, is one of John’s wife’s kids that she adopted after they got divorced.

and we’ve been having emotion issues between me and my bf, just constant arguing.

i’m convinced whatever it is doesn’t like couples/idk. like we almost broke up since being here (and given we did just have a baby, our first) we’ve never had these kinds of arguments or issues to this extent before. we’ve never been on the verge of breaking up before, ever. until we moved in here. i used to be v depressed as a kid, almost suicidal, ect. my sister i believe was as well, but we never talked about it to each other. and my brother stays as far away as possible because our mother is v verbal/emotionally abusive. just the same as John’s wife is. issues i picked up from my mom.

the pottery is still here btw. my dad has not gotten rid of it. my bf said had he known my dad had it he never would have moved in here.

this house is a train wreck, one thing after the other, but it all looks the same in a way.

oh yeah and our cats/familiars both scream at the walls/ceilings for no reason

The 7 year itch-not just a movie

I’m currently married & have been with my husband for over 12 years however prior to this marriage I had a previous that only lasted 7 years. My current husband was also married prior to me, for 7 years. Many of my friends and people I see on social media that are married only stay married for 7 years or less. The ones that stay married longer than 7 years often have trouble around the 7-year mark & their relationship is truly tested. So, it got me thinking, is there such a thing as a 7-year itch? In 1955 Marilyn Monroe stared opposite Tom Ewell in the romantic comedy titled, you guessed it, “The Seven Year itch”. This movie is based on a play with the same namesake that deals with the declining interest in a monogamous relationship after seven years of marriage. This theory isn’t really new it is something psychologist have studied for years. So, are we as humans truly meant to be with one person for eternity or are relationships meant to have expiration dates? I mean many of us change as people, our priorities become different, our passions change, our purpose grows, interest changes, even appearance changes. So, does that mean we can outgrow being married to one person? We often outgrown friendships, think about it there are probably very few ppl you were friends with in junior high that you are friends with currently. Do we have to work with our partner to evolve together? What if your partner does not want to change, evolve, or go along with you on a new journey? What then? Divorce? Divorce is always and option I suppose but for many with children involved it is not the simple. Matters of the heart rarely are simply anyway. How do you beat the 7-year itch? My husband & I went through the 7-year mark troubles. The new wore off, we were busy with work, kids, after school activities, & had very little time for one another. We didn’t really even attempt to make time for one another bc what was the point we knew everything we were every going to know, right? My husband fell in love with my loud, unruly, fun, free thinking, social butterfly, fear less personality and I fell in love with his kindness, gentleness, quietness, consistency, & just the way he was a man’s man. We were perfect opposites & it worked. . .for a while. As time passed the same reason, he fell in love with me were the same reasons he began to resent me. We had a daughter 2.5 years into our relationship & he already had 3 children from a previous marriage & relationship. After our daughter was born, I changed as most new moms do. I saw the world in an entirely new way. I wanted to change & improve things more than ever before. I joined my step sons school PTA, I started to do work for Saint Jude’s, I also got offered to be apart of a board that helped plan events to benefit local nursing homes. Of course, I discussed all these new endeavors with my husband prior to jumping in, & he always fully supported, at first, but that would quickly change. Anytime I had a meeting or event I would make sure it worked around my children’s schedule as well as my husband & I’s work schedule, but it didn’t matter he always found a way to start a fight & I would end up looking like the bad guy. I didn’t understand how eh could go hunting, fishing, whatever & never had to plan out what was happening with the kids nor did he have to worry if I would be upset, however when it came to me doing something I wanted I had to make sure the house was clean, laundry done, kids had a sitter, meals planned, etc My husband would make comments like, “oh you pawning the kids off again”, when I had a event or meeting that I could not bring the kids to which was usually once a month. I didn’t understand how it was considered “pawning” my kids off when I had something I wanted to do but it was considered that for him. I kept quiet which turned out to be the wrong thing bc soon I began to resent him. I hated seeing him drive up at home bc I knew he was going to be unhappy about something. It did not take me long to figure out my husband and I’s differences were far greater than I had initially thought. He is a pessimistic person and I am optimistic. Our vehicles may not be the newest & our home maybe not the biggest but I love it bc it is ours & we work hard for it. We may not have millions or even thousands but our bills are paid, our children are healthy, we are healthy, employed, & free. I use to tell my husband, “One day god is going to test you & take away everything you have, then I bet you will appreciate it.”. You never want to be so busy looking at what others have that you forget all that you have. Despite my husband differing thought process I accepted him, I would never get anger over what he chose to believe, in my mind by me doing that he would do the same t me on my opinions that differed from his. WRONG!!! No matter what I would say or do he had something negative to say. If I was watching something on tv he would start making ugly comments about whatever I was watching, so I stopped watching tv when he was around. If was on the phone with a friend, &he was around he would begin fussing & making ugly comments so I stopped talking on the phone to my friends when he was around. If I would make plans to go eat with friends, he would fuss so I started canceling on my friends. I started my own little side jewelry business I would hand cut metal and stamp it; it was called Creative Metal, & I LOVED it. To be sure it did not interfere with my mom/wife/employee duties I only worked on it at night once the house was clean & everyone was asleep. But it was not good enough my husband would get up in the middle of the night fussing that I was still up, or making noise. So, I gave it up, sold almost all my tools & supplies. . .I’ll be honest it hurt my heart but I wanted peace. The resentment grew & grew to the point that I could not take it anymore, I couldn’t breathe. I longed for an intelligent conversation with a man that thought I was truly amazing, a man that supported my dreams, hopes, etc & even if it was not something he wanted he wouldn’t mind coming along for the ride simply bc he wanted to be with me, support me. There were opportunities where I could have cheated but I am fiercely loyal even when some do not deserve it & the thought of my husband finding out & hurting, I just couldn’t do it. Instead of infidelity, I decided I had enough, I decided I was going to live my life, & if he wanted to support me great, if not oh well his lose. So, I did, I talked on the phone and when he started, I wouldn’t hold back I’d tell my friend, “lemme call you back Travis is fussing bc I am talking to you”. He would immediately get embarrassed, and I would say hey if that’s how you gonna act you need to claim it. I started watching tv when he was there and if he started fussing, Id walk out & go watch tv in another room. I wasn’t going to stop living, existing, & growing bc HE didn’t like it! I started being that girl he fell in love with the one I hid to make him comfortable. I started telling him to Fuck off, & I no longer cried bc he hurt my feelings, I just let it roll off my back. I am not sure if it worked or not but we are now 12 years in, the resentment is no longer there bc I do what I want, say how I feel, & make no apologies. I can honestly say my husband is friend, he can still be a giant douche canoe but I do love him & despite what I may think he doesn’t like me sometimes deep down I know he’s crazy about me. Our children are older now & so are we, we now have more time for one another & actually make the effort to spend time together & usually enjoy said time. We joke back & forth, pick at each other, & do not take things said nearly as personal. Now with all that, I could have just divorced him & started over. . . but who would I be as a person? I can not say I actually “fought” for my marriage as much as I just said Fuck it & made the decision to just live. I know some people are better off apart, divorce is better than marriage, & that’s ok everyone’s journey is different. For me, I had already been through one divorce so if I was going to have a second one it was not going to be my doing. I guess you could say sheer stubbornness is what got my marriage through lol either way I’m glad. Even in years from now we decide to go our separate ways, I will always appreciate the journey we had together. Maybe, extended monogamy isn’t for everyone, & that’s cool too. Just live the best life for you, a life that in the end you are proud of no matter what.
