Annotation notes for Wicked Saints
Attached under the cut are my word-for-word annotation notes pulled straight from my copy of Wicked Saints. Check out my previous post and goodreads review before reading the annotation notes.
I only decided to start annotating this book 115 pages in, because I realized that there were so many problems I was complaining about to my friend Sophie over text that I thought “Hey, I’d better write this shit down so I have receipts/can easily reference my thoughts.” I’d never really done annotations before, so I pulled out a new pack of sticky notes and color tabs that someone gave to me for free when I was in college and got to work. I ran out of sticky notes (started a new pad) and yellow tabs (borrowed last few from a weird tab/highlighter I found at the bottom of my college study stuff bin). I also got so frustrated I had to put the book down several times, because I’d paid eighteen dollars to pre-order this fucking garbage.
Pg 115 Pink tab – Character note --Bitch do you want to kill him or not? This is like bad Reylo fic— (Nadya being ~~inexplicably~~ held back from killing Mal, because she really wants to kill Mal, but just CANT for SOME REASON)
pg 123 Yellow tab – writing/literacy/grammar note --no note written— “He braced himself for the inevitable summons from his father. It arrived immediately by way of servant wearing a plain brown mask that left only his eyes visible. One of his father’s personal servants.”
Pg 137 Yellow tab – writing/literacy/grammar note --WTF is “it commanded attention”?! This whole throne bit is needlessly over-explanatory and could be fixed by adhering to golden rule “show, don’t tell”—
pg 139 Yellow tab --you don’t have to repeat the same thing twice!— “…Serefin paused, swallowing down the anxiety threatening to choke him. He was suddenly unspeakably nervous.”
Pg 140 Yellow tab --you just said they didn’t know who it was and now, not even a page later, you’re literally describing Mal and saying you DO know who it was?! WHO TF EDITED THIS SHIT— (Izak telling Serefin that they don’t know the vulture who escaped, then the vulture lurking behind him describing the backstory of the vulture who escaped)
pg 145 pink tab --what, is she Canadian now?— “You’ve realized your father isn’t so good a father to you, eh?” she [Pelayega] asked.
Pg 146 Yellow tab --For all that Duncan over-explains things in this story I still don’t fucking understand the High/Low prince thing??? Not once has she gone into it. And what the fuck is a slavhka?— (in reference to the first mention of there being “low princes”)
pg 148 Blue tab – Plot note --Why is the church still standing they LITERALLY TORE IT DOWN! THIS PART OF IT COLLAPSED!!!— (in reference to parijahan lying on top of pillows in the church Mal and Nadya just destroyed to get rid of the Vultures)
pg 153 Yellow tab --Are we really still saying “invalid” in the year of our unbridled insanity 2019?— “…Your mother, Estera, is an invalid…” (Mal making up a fake background for Nadya)
pg 153 Blue tab --SINCE WHEN DOES HE HAVE TATTOOS ON HIS HANDS— (in reference to the very first mention of Mal having tattoos on his hands, 153 pages into the story)
pg 155 Pink tab --Anna is so flat a character she could be removed from the whole book and not one thing would change— (in reference to Anna deciding to leave the group to re-join Kalyazi forces. I hold by this statement because Anna had no fucking role in the end of the book, and was therefore a useless character throughout)
pg 157 Pink tab --I’m sorry are we ETHNIC CLEANSING?! IS THIS WHAT WE ARE ENDORSING?! WTF?— “…then we can cleanse Kalyazin of the heretics entirely”
pg 163 Blue tab --this is the first we are hearing about any hierarchy in the vultures, which we should have read many chapters ago, not just when convenient for the author/plot— (in reference to first mention of Crimson Vulture)
pg 164 Yellow tab/Blue tab (overlapping domains) --Inches? FRACTIONS? IN THIS ECONOMY?!— (what is math in medieval Poland)
pg 167 Yellow tab --Still have not defined nobility and what makes a family “noble” or slavhka or whatever “low prince/royalty” or some shit— (In reference to yet another mention of low princes/royalty and somehow differentiating them from slavhka)
pg 168 Blue tab --I am more interested in gay Romeo/Juliet in a blood mage society than I am the entire plot of Wicked Saints— --Also this interaction feels cringey and thrown in for…no real reason?— “You’ve missed so much! Did you know that Nikodem Stachowicz was caught in the palace archives with the youngest Osadik boy?” (Zaneta)
pg 170 Yellow tab --FIRE YOUR COPY EDITOR— He shrugged, burying his tattooed hands in his pockets. “It binds over time, magic does. Especially blood magic. It’s so accessible. You don’t have to have a true affinity for it…” (Mostly I got furious over the fact that we’re only just getting Mal’s tattoo hands, which was obviously written in as an afterthought for his character partway through the writing process and not retconned into the story. I also just hate the sentence “it binds over time, magic does.”)
Pg 170 Yellow tab --Page 170: “walked on” Page 177: on horseback. WHAT IS THE TRUTH?— “Malachiasz stopped to wait for Nadya while the others walked on ahead” (this note coincides with a future note)
pg 173 Orange tab – blatant parallels to and lifts from Dragon Age franchise --you get a special shame-color for copying Dragon Age (also WHAT IS YOUR MAGIC STRUCTURE HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE) (it’s just bad writing)— “He was referring to witches—apostate magic users outside the gods’ approval—but there had been no witches in Kalyazin for decades. Their route of magic was considered just as heretical as blood magic…”
pg 176 yellow tab --Emily A Duncan focuses [more] on the little actions of Malacheezit than she does for any other character and it hurts the story— (specific reference to line “He fidgeted, fingers picking at a hang nail” interjected in dialogue. This action-dialogue tag does no service to the story at all.)
Pg 177 Pink tab --What the fuck? Is this about Holy War or is this a romance fantasy? (note the order: not “fantasy romance”)— “In a flash, his hand was underneath her chin, thumb brushing against her jaw…If Nadya hadn’t been sitting down she suspected her knees would have given out on her.”
Pg 177 Yellow tab --SINCE WHEN DO THEY HAVE FUCKING HORSES?! FIRE ALL YOUR EDITORS FIRE THE PUBLISHER— “Nadya let her horse wander instead of tying it up, sending a short prayer up to Vaclav to keep an eye on the animal so it didn’t stray too far.” (These horses were never mentioned before (note connects to a prev. note) and were never mentioned again after this. I literally cannot fathom how or why this book made it to final printing in this state.)
Pg 183 Pink tab --All this romance shit seems so forced for both Nadya and mal. I see no actual attraction on either party?— (I’m not recording the second note as it is a crude remark against the author, a remark of which I still stand by, but would be damaging to both her and myself. However, the emotion of the second note follows the concept of “anyone who knew what they were talking about wouldn’t write this kind of bullshit.”)
Pg 185 Yellow tab --“Per se”? I’m sorry is there LATIN in this world? (it’s bad writing)— “He wasn’t putting it off per se, he…”
pg 186 yellow tab --“It was fitting THAT assassins…” ugh— “It was fitting assassins chose to strike that same evening” (Doesn’t the author have a masters degree? And works in a library? How is her writing this chopped and sloppy, omitting crucial subject/action markers?)
Pg 198 Blue tab --Jesus, are prostitutes of war a NORMAL THING? WE SHOULD BE SAVING THESE POOR WOMEN— “The girl is…” He faltered, convincingly. “Well, you understand.” He winked at the soldier. (the soldier doesn’t even remark on Nadya’s sex slave status) (Also I realize that “prostitutes of war” is not the correct vernacular, however I’m committed to giving you my direct and exact notes. I know that they are slaves of war, sex slaves specifically, and do not receive true compensation or reparation for their suffering.)
Pg 201 Pink tab --HOW THE FUCK DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT NOBLES? YOU LIVED YOUR WHOLE LIFE IN A MONASTERY!— “Nobles are nobles,” she [Nadya] said waving a hand. “Regardless of where they come from. The pettiness of court transcends all cultural boundaries.”
Pg 202 Blue tab --WHAT THE FUCK? EXPLAIN YOUR MAGIC/MYTHS— (referencing the blasé and brief mention of Wolf Changers, which we never hear about again)
pg 203 blue tab --WHAT NECKLACE? WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?— --Oh, that necklace, that was mentioned in the first chapter, forgotten, reintroduced the following chapter, then COMPLETELY forgotten again! Bad writing. Bad props.— “Her prayer beads were safely in her pocket, so she clutched at the necklace Kostya had given her.”
Pg 205 Blue tab --Is her accent suddenly better?— (reference to previous statements of Nadya having a terrible travanian accent, hence the sex slave thing to the border guard so she doesn’t have to talk, but now she’s talking and there was no reference to her improving her accent at all or even working on it.)
pg 207 yellow tab --I can see Emily has a kink for masks + chin grabbing— “He [Serefin] reached out and took her chin in his hand, lifting her face up to his” (Mal has also done this to Nadya countless times and she orgasms almost every time.)
Pg 209 Orange tab --The veil, yet another stolen Dragon Age concept!— “…closed her eyes, letting herself feel the invisible wall separating gods from men. She felt it the moment they had stepped into Tranavia, the weight of the veil pressing down against her, choking off her only access to the divine.” (This is also the very first reference to any such veil being in place. It took 209 pages for this to be mentioned, in a book chock full of a girl talking to gods in her head. Also, they’ve been in Tranavia for awhile. Why wasn’t this mentioned when they first stepped foot inside? (because it’s bad writing))
Pg 209 Pink tab --Nadya’s powers seem almost limitless at this point— “Holy speech whispered through her head and she moved to disassemble the spells woven through the walls. She couldn’t take them apart completely— someone would notice, precautions in place—she was just making them fuzzy, bleeding them out. She dulled them so any information imparted back to the mages who set them would appear mundane.” (If Nadya’s powers (at this point in the book) are tied to the gods, there is no mention of which god provides these powers. If this is meant to foreshadow that Nadya has her own powers, it’s a lazy job. It’s simply overpowered and oversimplified. )
Pg 210 [no tab just a sticky] --oh FINALLY we hear how they met!— “I’ve known him [Rashid] my whole life. And we crashed into Malachiasz about six months ago after getting into trouble with some off-duty Kalyazi soldiers.”
Pg 214 [no tab just a sticky] --also can we acknowledge the whole “brown girl serves a white girl” thing because WOW— (in reference to Parijahan playing handmaiden to Nadya at the palace)
pg 215 Pink tab --“Couldn’t worry about the prince”? wasn’t HE the one she wanted to kill in revenge for Kostya? (IS THAT ALL FORGOTTEN NOW?)
pg 216 Pink tab --First Zaneta is Indian [coded] and now she’s black [coded]? WHAT?— “…a tall girl with luminous skin like onyx threaded with gold…her spiral curls fanned out around her head like a halo.”
Pg 217 Orange tab --The game? Court intrigue? Masks? This all reeks of Orlais and direct theft from Dragon Age— (in reference to basically the whole castle competition, masks, etc)
pg 217 Yellow tab --And now we’re switching perspectives mid-chapter? Just start a new chapter!— (in reference to the very first mid-chapter perspective switch, which will occur more from here on out)
pg 232 yellow tab --I am so sick of these italicized words without any translation or description— (in reference to szitelka which I still DON’T KNOW WHAT IT IS)
pg 233 pink tab --what the fuck is Nadya’s perspective? Does she want to kill all Tranavians or not? Emily make up your fucking mind— (in reference to Nadya getting pissed at Mal for killing the other blood mage girl in Nadya’s duel, so that Nadya wouldn’t die and the duel would end)
pg 234 pink tab --literally when has Nadya worried about his safety, esp. when she’s the one always threatening to kill him?— “She hadn’t forgotten, not even while she found herself worrying about his safety and wanting him by her side.”
Pg 235 Pink tab --oh FINALLY we get a description of his tattoos! 235 PAGES IN!!!! BULLSHIT YOU HACK WRITER!— “She found her eyes drawn to the tattoos on his long, elegant fingers. They were simple, straight lines: two on either side of each finger and one down the back that started at the bed of each fingernail and ended at his wrist in a single black bar.” (I literally vomited in my mouth when I read this)
Pg 238 Pink tab --Oh so Mal can’t murder to save you but you can murder Tranavians and its fucking justified? Nadya is such a bad Nazi char.— “It’s not an apology for murdering that girl, she noted. But it was a start. It was something from this boy who obviously had no morals and no regard for anything that didn’t serve his own interests.” (Nadya is the worst hypocrite and I want to punch her in the face)
Pg 239 Yellow tab --Hanged? Since when? Has hanging? Been a threat? Ever? In this world?— “…or else this whole mess of a plan will go up in smoke and we’ll all be hanged for it.”
Pg 240 Pink tab (this is another omitted note because it is a crude comment in part against the author, but the other half does say that Nadya is such a virgin and that I am second-hand embarrassed because this book and the “romance” scenes are so bad)
pg 242 blue tab --If Nadya used blood magic, why don’t the gods cut off her powers for her heresy? It would only make sense— (this is just a general comment on the chapter and how, after the duel and Nadya used blood magic, her gods were still talking to her. This is also before we find out that Nadya has her own powers)
pg 247 yellow tab --the way this is lazily written we’re supposed to assume it’s Ostiya at the door. Could be written much better (all of this could be written much better)— “Serefin hastily wrapped his still-bleeding hand with cloth while Kacper got the door. Ostiya blinked her single eye at the sight of both of them.”
Pg 248 Blue tab --“delicate gov[ernmen]t? we don’t even know how  the gov’t is even structured!— “This was too far. It would crumble Travania’s already delicate government.”
Pg 259 Blue tab --Oh good, a love triangle. Good to know Nadya’s type is “blood mage  tortured/charming boy” that grabs chin + kisses hands— “…and wasn’t sure what to do with this charmingly awkward boy. That he was one of the most powerful blood mages in Tranavia...She wavered too much already; she couldn’t allow herself to feel any more.”
Pg 260 Pink tab --Literally all that Parijahan does is be soft + comforting? That is literally all she does to Mal + Nadya + Rashid?— “Nadya usually didn’t see this side of Parijahan. It relieved her to see there was a warm softness to Parijahan’s flinty gaze.”
Pg 270 Blue tab --What do you mean? When did you mention that the gods had withdrawn their power from Nadya?— “She had no magic. She had nothing. She had no hope without her gods.”
Pg 275 Blue tab --But they would abandon her for using blood magic you dumbass— “The gods wouldn’t have abandoned her. Not for a few doubts, not for kissing a heretic—not even that.”
Pg 278 Blue tab --Okay this is actually a really cool scene— (when Nadya is first using blood with the pendant to see her way out of the room the rogue Vultures locked her in)
pg 280 blue tab --Calls her “little bird” is this Mal?— (referencing this unnamed god that Nadya is talking to via Kostya’s necklace)
pg 287 yellow tab --sloppy transition makes it seem as though a new person is talking— (Basically for the next two pages Emily incorrectly punctuates her paragraph breaks while Pelayega is talking.)
Pg 294 Orange tab --Velyos=Solas=Mal? Oh my god is this whole plot a regurgitation of DA:Inquisition/Trespasser?— “Have you heard of him? I suppose not. The veil went up, Velyos broke away. Your gods were probably relieved, but here he is once more...”
pg 298 blue tab --fucking called it (“acted like he was dead”? Literally said before that he was “sent to the country”)— (in reference to Serefin seeing Mal and discovering that his cousin is the Black Vulture. Previously, a not so subtle mention of a nameless male cousin of Serefin’s was “sent to the country” when he was young. I immediately pegged it as being Mal. But now it is written that Serefin was led to believe that his cousin died? The inconsistencies are rife.)
pg 308 pink tab --Does Nadya literally have no self control or sense of morality (for her own morals)? What the fuck is this?— “Then her traitorous, heretical hands betrayed her as she reached up and wove them into his hair, pulling his face down to hers and kissing him. Because she was angry with him, furious with his lies, but not even her anger was enough to cool the burning she felt when he was near; the heat that spread through her nerves when he touched her.”
Pg 308 Pink tab --ooh power shift, she’s doing the chin-grabbing now!— “She took his chin in her hand, directing his gaze down to hers.”
Pg 309 Blue tab --except for the vultures that kidnapped her? What about them?!— “Go to the cathedral when you’re finished here,” he said. “None of the Vultures will give you any trouble.”
Pg 313 Pink tab --Didn’t want the fate of nations? She LITERALLY came here to topple the monarchy and uproot Tranavia and start a mass ethinic cleansing— “She was only one girl; she didn’t want the fate of nations resting on her decisions.”
Pg 314 Pink tab --YOU CAN’T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS YOU DUMB BITCH— [the dumb bitch being Nadya] “The war took something important to me,” she said, fingering Kostya’s necklace unconsciously. She couldn’t think about how it had been Serefin who had led that attack. (Nadya literally forgets and completely forgives Serefin for what she believes is Kostya’s murder (we know that Kostya wasn’t killed by Serefin but his BABY BRO WAS). Like, wasn’t Kostya super important to her? And she tried to kill Serefin in revenge but Mal stopped her? And in literally less than a week she totally forgets about it?)
Pg 318 Pink tab --Honestly, Mal deserves better than Nadya. He’s clearly doing his best and she’s just being racist and unwavering.— He opened his mouth, at a loss for words. Finally, he asked, “Will it always be like this?” Would it? She couldn’t say. Would she ever be comfortable with what he was? Or would it always be this constant hot and cold, friends one second and enemies the next? “I don’t know.” (Nadya is so abusive in this whole relationship I feel bad for Mal)
pg 321 yellow tab --He literally said he only told her the truth?! Mal has literally not told one lie?— “He was a liar and she wanted his truths”
pg 322 yellow tab --The whole order of this scene description + the characters is clunky and wrong— (no further comment really, that pretty much explains it)
pg 326 pink tab --Did she literally forget about Kostya? Did Nadya literally just forgive Serefin b/c she thinks he’s cute and tortured? LITERALLY? WHY?— “Serefin. He’s good,” She nuzzled his chest. “I like him. He should live.”
Pg 327 Blue tab --Can Serefin suddenly write his own spells now?! I thought only Mal could do that— “As he sat down at his desk with spells sprawled out in front of him, blood still drying on the pages, he couldn’t shake the feeling…”
pg 335 pink tab --That’s right, bitch! You’re damn nigh abusive to him and for some reason he keeps coming back! I don’t know why since you have the personality of a Nazi but for some reason Mal just really wants to fuck you!— “How could she be the only good thing to happen to him? She had almost slit his throat, had hung him off a railing. She didn’t even trust him, not really.”
Pg 351 Blue tab --since when have we seen a fucking calendar system?— “…turned the tide of a battle in 625 when…” (this is a “Vasiliev’s Book of Saints” entry for chapter 33. There is one more reference to a year in an earlier codex entry (tsk another Dragon Age ripoff) for something like 15XX. We don’t know what year it is, nor do we know when/why they started counting. Maybe it’s not critical for the story but it IS critical if you’re bringing it up.)
pg 357 orange tab --Literally Solas’s plot in Trespasser— “She bit back a cry of pain and shoved her magic harder up at the veil. If this was when she died, then fine. Fine. She would tear this veil down first and bring the gods back to Tranavia with her dying breath.”
Pg 360 Blue tab --How did she get here? Already? These scenes are so lazy, show me Nadya scrambling up the dais to Mal’s waiting neck— “He idly spun a chalice on the armrest and Serefin watched as the cleric stood and darted for a dagger that reseted a few steps away. It was time to test just what he could do with this power. (now it’s Nadya’s POV) Malachiasz’s eyes closed. He tilted his head back, baring his throat to Nadya’s blade.”
Pg 363 Yellow tab --Did we just miss Serefin fighting his father for Nadya’s sexy threatening? Was that really a real choice the author made?— (Nadya looks over at Serefin) “Serefin was on his knees, hunched over in pain, blood oozing from his head, one hand white-knuckled on the ground holding him up. Dead moths littered the floor around him. The stars around his head began to flicker out.”
Pg 368 Yellow tab --you CANNOT call it an “Adam’s apple” when there is no “Adam” or Christianity in this fantasy world! Lazy writing indeed!— “His head tilted back, Adam’s apple bobbing, as he swallowed hard.”
Pg 376 Yellow tab --this line is so cliché and fucking bad why the fuck is it even in here?— “The king is dead, long live the king,” she said, handing it [the crown] to him [Serefin].
Pg 376 Yellow tab --And why didn’t you write that the other vultures disappeared? There is so much missing here— “Where are all the Vultures?” Ostiya asked “Most probably fled with their king,” Serefin said.
Pg 378 Yellow tab --Is what enough? Power? Crown? What the fuck? This is so sloppy— “Will this be enough?” she asked him [Serefin]. “To stop the war?” … [Serefin:] “It will”
pg 380 yellow tab --No clear description of where Mal is. Is this physical or ethereal? What the fuck is happening?— (Mal’s whole epilogue)

what would happen if Dean and the reader started singing loudly in the Impala?
Nothing Equals The Splendor
“Carry on my wayward so-ooon!” Your head tipped back as you belted out the chorus to the Kansas song.
“There’ll be peace when you! Are! Do-ooone!” Dean drummed on the steering wheel, joining in with you.
“Lay your weary head to re-eeeest!” You leaned up and rested your chin on his shoulder as you sang in unison.
“Don’t you cry no more!”
As you fell against the back of the bench seat, a woman walked over to Dean’s window and knocked on it lightly. He rolled it down with a furrowed brow.
“Hello, ma’am.” He gave her a killer smile.
“Hi, um I was just wondering if maybe you could keep it down a bit? I have a baby sleeping inside and your singing just woke him up.” She gave a tight, unamused smile.
“Sorry about that. My girlfriend just loves her classic rock.” He smiled kindly at the woman, who laughed a single syllable and went on her way. You felt your heartbeat pick up as Dean turned and threw his arm over the back of the seat. “Keep it down, sweetheart. You heard the lady.”
“Y- you called me your girlfriend.” You stammered, staring at the center of his face, avoiding looking directly into his eyes.
“What else was I supposed to say?” He smiled and shook his head. Defeat crashed over you like waves on the shore.
“Oh.” Your gaze fell to your lap.
“I wasn’t gonna tell some stranger that the girl I’ve been in love with since I was seventeen was singing my favorite song and I had to sing along.” He reached back and grabbed your hand, squeezing it gently as your eyes shot up to meet his. “Yeah, you heard me.” You launched yourself forward, flying over the back of the seat and into Dean’s lap, crashing your lips to his in a bruising kiss.
In your haste, you fell against the steering wheel and ended up laying on the horn. The woman stomped back to Dean’s window and pounded on the glass, throwing her hand on her hip as the two of you parted lips and smiled innocently up at her. You mouthed the word sorry and readjusted yourself, then attacking Dean’s lips with the passion you’d been holding back for years.

The Secret’s Out
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1654
A/N: My first Sam smut! Bit long for drabble I guess but hey, I had fun writing it :) Apologies this took longer than I said. I’m just a bit of a general failure lately. Let me know what you guys think! If it sucks I need to know!
My Masterlist!
~ Sam and forever tags are open! ~
Tumblr media
“Come on now Y/N,” Donna chirped waving her glass of wine around animatedly, “You have got to admit them boys are quite something to look at?”
You chuckle, shrugging as you take a sip of your beer. You're not saying a word.
“They're like sons to me,” Jody slurs, “But what sons eh?”
The two sheriffs elbow each other, breaking into giggles like two crushing school girls. You laughed along with them, but you were adamant to keep your mouth tightly shut. Alcohol is a sucker for creating loose lips, you were feeling the buzz as the booze hit your head but you needed to keep control. Especially now, considering this night's most interesting latest development.
“Shh!” Donna hushes to Jody, “They're coming back.”
She was right. Just on cue, Sam and Dean both re-enter the room. They'd arrived about ten minutes previously unannounced, a case had brought them to the area.
“You got some more beers?” Dean asks, raising his brow at the two 'tipsy' sheriffs.
“Help yourself,” Jody answers, not successfully hiding a smirk.
“Could you grab me one too?” Sam asks his brother, taking a seat next to you, “Hey Jody, thank you so much for letting us stay on such short notice.”
“Please,” she scoffs in reply, “If you hadn't worked it out already, you're both always welcome.”
“Isn't it neat though?” Donna clapped in glee, “What a coincidence that you show up and we're all here!”
“Yeah,” you laugh, “It's like you knew or something.”
You and Sam share a quick glance. Of course their arrival had nothing at all to do with you texting him earlier that day about the case in question. The fact that you were also here. That you missed him, and you needed him.
The corner of his mouth twitches slightly with a knowing smirk.
Dean comes back with beers, sitting on the other side of his brother. Conversation, beer and wine continued to flow. It was nice, not often did all of you just get to sit and talk and just be yourselves.
It was relaxing and refreshing. Topics of discussion constantly shifting and flowing like it does between friends. You and Sam clearly had other thoughts going on, under the table your legs were practically tangled with each other. As more alcohol entered the fray, the atmosphere grew louder and carefree. Dean proclaiming he's a karaoke king, belting out rock classics like he was the next Freddie Mercury. Donna challenging him with a powerful rendition of Dolly Parton's Nine to Five. You, Sam and Jody played judge, like some weird alternate universe of America's Got Talent.
“You know what Donna?” you slightly slur, “You made that song completely your own. I was entertained, happy, hell even a little emotional.”
“Just beautiful,” Jody concurs.
“Hey come on!” Dean protests.
“Dean, you certainly made your song your own too,” you snort.
“It's just that... nobody else wants it,” Sam digs.
Dean pouts, lunging for a nearby cushion on the sofa and throws it at you both. Unfortunately, he threw it a little harder than he thought. It crashes into the table, toppling your bottle over and covering you with the bitter, foamy contents.
Dean's eyes widened, laughing and scratching his head. He kept motioning to speak before finally settling on, “Okay I'm going to bed.”
“Yeah, I think we all should,” Jody laughs, standing and taking a still dancing Donna under her arm.
“Night!” Donna beamed as Jody lead her away. Dean hastily followed, avoiding eye contact with you.
The room now felt suddenly silent. It almost left you feeling a little dazed. Sam is looking at your beer covered top, gritting his teeth awkwardly.
“I guess I'll apologise for Dean?” he laughs.
“It's fine,” you giggle, “It's only a top, I got spares with me.”
“I wouldn't rush to get one just yet,” Sam's hazel eyes darken with this sentence. They are aimed directly back into yours and the sinful look on his face makes you shudder with want.
“Someone's keen,” you joke, biting your bottom lip.
No more words are said. Your lips are too busy crashing into each other to speak. His beer tainted lips are just as perfect as you remember. His hair falls forward and mingles with your own as he cups your cheek and bites your bottom lip. You giggle as he pulls your damp t-shirt over your head and kisses down your neck and along your collarbone.
Footsteps. You quickly part and you feel your muscles tense up and hairs stand on end. You both stand frozen until you hear a door click closed on the floor above. This makes you sigh heavily, heart racing and thumping like it was gonna burst out of your chest.
“Better keep it quiet then,” you whisper with a hungry smile.
“Good luck,” Sam growls, before unleashing a relentless attack back onto your neck. He kisses and bites in all the right ways and places. Making you grit your teeth and your head feel a new sensation of lightness that alcohol could never achieve.
He leads you to the sofa, setting you down on it and pulling his own shirt off. You'd seen it all before but still you find yourself marvelling at that body. Muscled and toned to perfection. You reach for him and pull him down to you, your hands riding all the way up his back and gripping on his shoulder blades whilst your tongues battled. He forces his weight forward so you become laid, whilst his hand reached down to unbutton your jeans. You can feel his prominent erection digging into you, prompting you to start working on his belt.
He pulls your jeans and pants down, lips never leaving yours and starts to toy with your entrance. You gasp once more as two fingers work their way inside, curled just the right way to hit your spot and drive you wild.
“Sam,” you breathe as your body becomes alive to his touch. He nips and bites all down your neck again, but goes lower. Pulling one of the cups of your bra down, he lets his tongue twirl and flick at your firm nipple. Your back arches as tingles spread all over you. Unclasping his jeans you take your turn to pull his down, his cock springing free from its constraints into your waiting hand. You thumb at the tip, spreading the small amount of pre-cum around. Stroking up his shaft you revel as he tries to mask a grunt with a harsh exhale.
Quickly he removes his fingers from you, and your pussy flutters at the loss but it is short lived. He shoves your hand away, not wasting any more time and slides effortlessly into you. You grab a fistful of his wonderfully soft hair and clench tight, biting your tongue as he fills you completely. He slowly draws back out, making you clench your eyes and battle with the urge to moan in pleasure. He senses your struggle and brings his lips back to yours like a makeshift gag and he thrusts back into you forcefully. Gasping into each other's mouths he repeats, each time growing in pace. Your hands grip tighter, as the rhythm builds and your sweet spot grows more sensitive. Something inside you tightening and rumbling as you are brought closer to the edge. Both of you start to struggle with keeping quiet, the occasional grunt and small moans become more frequent. Sam releases your mouth from his, closing his eyes and leaning his forehead on yours. You feel your sweat droplets mingling as he pants and reaches a new speed of pace. You clench yourself around him, causing a harsh gasp to break from him as he squeezes his already closed eyes. He gives a powerful push and holds himself there, crashing his lips back onto yours to quieten himself as you feel his release coating your walls. He takes you by surprise with an exploring hand finding its way to your clit while he climaxed. You whine into his mouth, vision going white as he drags you over with him.
“Fuck,” you whisper, legs shaking slightly as he pulls out and lays next to you.
“I missed you Y/N,” he hushes between pants, pulling a blanket folded on the back of the sofa over you both and holding you tight to his chest.
“Oh god I missed you too,” you chuckle slightly, holding the arm he wraps around you. Your eyes suddenly feel groggy and heavy...
°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。
“What the hell!?” a shrill shout jolts you awake. Sunlight streams in through cracks in the curtain and you open your eyes to a disgruntled Jody.
You and Sam rapidly pull at the sheet, ensuring to preserve your dignity.
“On my sofa!?” Jody shouts.
“Oh god,” you mumble.
“Jody, w-we're sorry, I...” Sam stutters.
Rapid footsteps can be heard clambering down the stairs as Dean and Donna enter the scene. Donna stares wide-eyed, before nodding and giving you a wink of approval, making you want to dive under the sheets and just die.
“Heeey Sammy!” Dean cheers with a wicked grin, “You sly dog!”
“Okay okay,” Sam shakes his head and runs a hand through his hair, “Little privacy for two seconds?”
Once the trio has left you both hastily grab for clothes. Sam loans you his shirt so you don't have to put your damp beer stained top from the night before back on.
“Well, that happened,” you laugh, biting your lip and staring up into Sam's beautiful eyes, “Guess the secret's out!”
“Seems so,” he laughs back, before giving you a content smile. Cupping your cheek again, he plants one more sweet, tender kiss.

Epic Movie (Re)Watch #173 - X-Men: Days of Future Past
Tumblr media
Spoilers Below
Have I seen it before: Yes
Did I like it then: Yes.
Do I remember it: Yes.
Did I see it in theaters: Yes.
Was it a movie I saw since August 22nd, 2009: Yes. #294
Format: Blu-ray
1) The film marks Bryan Singer’s return to the franchise he helped to start, making it his first X-Men film since X2. He was a producer on X-Men: First Class and originally Matthew Vaughn was slated to direct this film. But Vaughn dropped out to speak with Lucasfilm about Star Wars: Episode VII before focusing his efforts on Kingsman: The Secret Service allowing Singer to step back into the director’s chair.
2) Magneto, Xavier, every mutant in the X-Men films (especially the original trilogy) had fears about war. The X-Men tried to avoid it while Magneto was preparing to win it. Well now everyone’s worst fears have come to past in a dark and desolate future were Magneto was right and the X-Men are forced to band together.
3) John Ottman’s theme from X2 plays in the opening credits, making this film feel like a triumphant return to form from the get go. It fills the audience with an energy, hope, and even nostalgia that helps make the film as great as it is. While I absolutely adore Henry Jackman’s score for First Class, Ottman’s theme has now become the (unofficial?) theme for the franchise in a lot of ways.
4) We’re off to a strong start with the movie’s opening action sequence.
Tumblr media
This film features - by far - the best action sequences in the entire franchise. It embraces the powers of its mutant characters in a way no film has before it. This leads to incredible visuals and extended action scenes which never lose the audiences interest. It does what some films (The Last Stand) have failed to do before: show off the X-Men’s powers in incredible and memorable ways. The opening action sequence alone feels like something out of a comic book or (dare I say?) the 90s animated series. Characters like Iceman and Colossus have finally reached the full potential of their mutant powers, making good on a promise any X-Men film makes. New characters too have small roles but are wildly memorable. Blink, Sunspot, Warpath, and Bishop come across as unique with not a lot of lines and not a lot of screen time. But they have an impact because of the visuals of their powers/fighting styles.
From a storytelling standpoint the opening scene also works to set the stakes of the film. We understand immediately how much of a threat these sentinels are, they are able to massacre an entire squad of mutants with relative ease. If it weren’t for Kitty’s ability to send people back in time this war would be over very quickly. The dark tone and sense of dread this future has is established immediately through the action sequence, making the rest of the film carry that weight in a conflict driven/interesting way.
5) I am so impressed and so grateful that this film was able to get all the original cast back they wanted. Kelsey Grammer couldn’t participate because of scheduling conflicts with Transformers: Age of Extinction (ew), but most of these actors have gained a higher price tag since X-Men: The Last Stand. Ellen Page in particular is a critically acclaimed and Oscar nominated actress who comes back for what is essentially a supporting role, but she (like the rest of the returning cast) commits to it all the same. It provides a nice amount of fan service which also feeds into the story and I love it.
6) It is so weird for me to hear Patrick Stewart Xavier talk about this.
Professor X: “I knew [Mystique] as Raven...she was like a sister to me.”
He never talked about her like that in the original trilogy, it first came up in the First Class prequel. But it adds something to Professor X’s character: he walls parts of himself and his past off for the sake of the future.
Note: In this post Patrick Stewart will be referred to as Professor X and James McAvoy will be referred to as Charles.
7) The decision to send Logan back instead of Kitty might upset Kitty Pryde fans and comic book purists (as Kitty was the one to go back in the original storyline), but I think it makes the most amount of sense. The original story was published in the 80s or 90s and Kitty came back from 2013 into her younger body. Movie Kitty has no younger body in 1973 but Logan does. So that’s why it makes sense from an in world decision, but also from a filmmaking standpoint it makes sense too. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is the face of the X-Men films primarily, with only one film up to this point not having him in a prominent role. So it makes sense to put stock in his character as you have in the past. My biggest regret though is that I do LOVE Kitty Pryde and so it would’ve been nice to see her do more, but she still serves a more important role in this film than she does in The Last Stand.
Tumblr media
8) I absolutely love this.
Professor X: “Logan, you’re going to have to do for me what I once did for you.”
I am a sucker for character development and having watched now seven X-Men films in a row seeing Wolverine in this role is incredible to me. This was the guy who originally wanted to ditch the X-Men, who was a loner and who primarily looked out for Rogue. Even with that he was mostly out for himself? Now. He’s invested. He’s older, a bit wiser (if not perfect), and gets to repay the kindness Professor X showed him by helping Charles along his way. It puts him in a new role, a role he’s not all too comfortable with, but it is just so damn interesting and I love everything about it.
9) The extended prologue in 2023 as well as the fact that this film will cut back to that time occasionally helps make this film a worthy ending to the cast and characters first introduced in X-Men. It could’ve ended that series entirely, a farewell tour for all the actors we came to love in their respective parts. Despite this, at its core this film - more than anything else - is a sequel/continuation of the story set in place by X-Men: First Class. Doing both of these things is no easy feat but the film is able to pul it off beautifully.
10) Peter Dinklage as Bolivar Trask.
Tumblr media
Dinklage is one of the finest American actors around right now, notable for his work in “Game of Thrones”. And his performance as the villainous Trask gives us the best X-Men villain since William Stryker in X2. While I do LOVE Sebastian Shaw in First Class, there is something fundamentally more unsettling in Dinklage’s performance. He is chilling, focused, intimidating. You know this is not a guy you want to mess with. And Dinklage himself has a unique look on the character. This according to IMDb.
According to Peter Dinklage, Bryan Singer picked him to play Bolivar Trask because of his height, stating, "With my dwarfism, I'm a bit of a mutant. I can't move metal or anything, but I thought of it as self-loathing. Deep down, Trask is quite sensitive about that aspect of himself."
11) Mystique in Saigon.
Tumblr media
The scene of Mystique saving a group of mutants in Saigon from being shipped off to Trask (including Lucas Till’s return as Havok) works really well for a number of reasons. First of all: it helps not only re-introduce her character but also her motivations for this film. She has gone through a lot between First Class and now so this scene helps to establish just exactly this NEW Mystique is. She’s one with a lot of pain, working towards avenging the loss of her friends. Mystique is also much more of a fighter in this film than in First Class, with her choreography and skills leaning much closer to what we would expect from Rebecca Romijn. She has been pushed up to the point of no return but hasn’t crossed that line yet and that’s what this film is about. If she’s going to become the Mystique she does in the original timeline or if this is her second chance. The writing for her character is conflict filled and amazing, I absolutely love it.
12) Logan really needs to give people a spoiler warning about their futures.
Logan [before punching out Beast]: “You and I are going to be good friends.”
13) And because he’s Wolverine, it doesn’t take long for Logan to cause shit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media

14) James McAvoy’s return as Charles Xavier.
Tumblr media
So First Class was really about Erik becoming Magneto, this is about Charles becoming Professor X. We have never seen the character so low, he has never been so low. He is a broken man with the events of First Class changing him more than he - or the audience - even expected. He tried soldiering on but the war in Vietnam led to his school being shut down. Charles is wallowing in pain, in self pity, he is exactly what Professor X said he was: as lost as Logan used to be. Hell, he’s a drug addict! The serum to give him his legs is a not-so-subtle parallel for drug use. There is a great conflict there, a great pain, and it leads to an incredible story.
15) This is kind of a perfect representation of how continuity works in the X-Men films. The movie tries to remember something from the past, tries to have continuity track, only to get something about it wrong and make everything more confusing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(GIFs originally posted by @mcavoying)
In fairness the original line in the First Class script WAS, “Fuck off!” but First Class was released three years before Days of Future Past meaning they knew that wasn’t the actual line for a while. Granted I’m probably just nitpicking.
16) In this film we learn that Emma Frost, Zoe-Kravitz-Angel (as opposed to the Angel from The Last Stand and Apocalypse), Azazel & Banshee are all dead by the hands of Bolivar Trask. Which is sickening and heartbreaking but left a unique opportunity which Apocalypse never took with the characters. I’ll talk about it briefly now but go in depth during my Apocalypse post but in the comics Apocalypse’s Four Horsemen are resurrected dead characters. Using this to bring back the four mutants I just listed would have been a smart move I think.
17) Let’s share what IMDb has to say about the rights to Quicksilver:
The addition of Evan Peters as Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver to the cast sparked wide discussion over the direction of the character who is also slated to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). Quicksilver had been discussed previously as a potential character in both X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) and The Avengers (2012), but legal complexities over the license to the character resulted in his omission from both films. However, in May 2013 both Marvel and Fox Studios announced a resolution to the previous legal issues, and that Quicksilver would appear in this film as well as an Avengers sequel, though under certain parameters: no reference to Quicksilver's membership in the Avengers can be made in an "X-Men" film, and no allusion to his relations to the X-Men or Magneto (the character's father) can be made in an "Avengers" film; the rights agreement between Fox and Marvel even goes so far as to stipulate the character cannot be referred to as a "mutant" in any Marvel film. Additionally, the day after the announcement of Peters's casting, Marvel and Fox entered into a legal standoff over provisions of the rights agreement for the character, including the issue of whether Peters would be allowed to portray Quicksilver in any other film outside the "X-Men" franchise, possibly necessitating a second actor to play Quicksilver in any Marvel film, resulting in two different versions of the same character appearing in two competing film series. Ultimately, Fox and Marvel decided to cast different actors in the part for the "X-Men" and "Avengers" films, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson taking on the role in the latter sequel, thus preventing any connection between the two franchises and keeping the X-Men confined to a separate universe from those of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
18) Evan Peters as Quicksilver.
Tumblr media
No, I said EVAN PETERS as Quicksilver!
Tumblr media
That’s better. Anyways: Evan Peters’ performance as the speedster is the definite scene stealer in the film. His screen time doesn’t amount to much - with a more significant role in 2016′s X-Men Apocalypse - but every time he’s on screen you are drawn to him. The character is wonderfully fun, with his smart assery amusing to us as the audience without being totally annoying. There’s a unique and vibrant energy that Peters brings to the character which is 100% captivating. By far one of the best new elements of this film.
19) Peter Parker could learn something from this.
Quicksilver [to Erik]: “I’m holding your neck so you don’t get whiplash.”
Erik: “What?”
Quicksilver: “Whiiiiiiplasssssshhhh!”
20) Okay, so Logan knocks out a bunch of Pentagon guards with a frying pan. Is it wrong that this is the only thing I could think of?
Tumblr media
21) Oh boy....
Tumblr media
(Screenshot taken from a GIF set originally posted by @barrel--rider)
22) It is unique and conflict filled to see Charles filled with such intense hate/loathing towards Erik when Professor X always has hope for his, “old friend,” Magneto.
Charles [upon first meeting Erik]: “I’m never getting inside that head again.”
Note: In this recap Michael Fassbender’s character shall be referred to as Erik while Ian McKellen’s shall be referred to as Magneto.
23) THE QUICKSILVER SCENE!!!!!
youtube
This is without a doubt the best scene in the entire film and it is absolutely brilliant across the board. Like the earlier fight scenes it takes the concept of mutant powers and is able to translate it into absolutely phenomenal visuals. From a technical standpoint the scene is a masterpiece, as the seams are practically invisible. It’s hard to make, but you don’t want the audience to know that. Which makes it all the more impressive that it seems so relaxed. The scene pulls your interest and never lets go, using music and point of view in absolutely stellar ways. How boring would this scene have been if it were from Erik’s point of view? Or Charles’? The most interesting way to do this moment is through Quicksilver and that’s what we get. It is intelligent, organic, full of small surprises, and despite its short length is strong as hell. If they were to teach this class in film schools some day, I would not be surprised.
Although it does raise the question: why don’t they just bring Quicksilver to Paris? It seems like he’d be really helpful.
24)
Erik [looking at Wolverine’s bone claws]: “Imagine if they were metal.”
Tumblr media
25) Erik and Charles having it outis very key to the film. Right now the audience sees Erik as the one who messed up. Taking away Charles’ legs, getting arrested for killing the president, etc. But Charles needs to know he’s made some pretty crucial mistakes.
Charles [to Erik]: “You abandoned me!”
Erik [after bringing up the dead mutants]: “We were supposed to protect them!...You abandoned us all!”
26) A part of me gets why Raven seduces the Vietnamese general in order to take his place at the pace conference. Another part of me lives in a post Wonder Woman world and A) never sees male characters doing this and B) thinks there was probably a different way she could’ve gotten into the peace conference. And this isn’t a comment on a woman using her sexuality in a way she is comfortable with, this is a comment on men trying to shoehorn scenes were a woman’s defining feature is her sexuality.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(GIF originally posted by @marshmallow-the-vampire-slayer)
27) I love the added conspiracy theory that JFK was a mutant. I remember reading a promotional material at the time that Bobby Kennedy was a mutant too and that’s why he was assassinated. I’m a nut for conspiracy theories though.
Tumblr media
28) Okay, I just need to take a minute to geek out about HOW HAPPY RAVEN IS TO SEE CHARLES!!!!
Tumblr media
29) And this is the turning point of the film.
Wolverine gets rocky and weak when he sees Stryker, injuring Kitty in 2023
Erik tries to kill Mystique
The world can’t deny the existence of mutants anymore and reacts with fear
Charles & Erik are now against each other again
Trask gets Raven’s blood
The tone of that is not lost. There’s a sense of darkness and dread which falls upon the film as it moves forward. It has an impact on the audience and helps to raise the stakes.
30) Okay, this is funny as hell to me. In an effort to calm Logan down:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(GIFs originally posted by @marvelheroesdaily)
31) Hey look, a Bryan Singer cameo!
Tumblr media
So now in the X-Men universe, Bryan Singer is someone who first introduces mutants to the larger world through his movies. How meta.
32)
Erik [after Mystique pulls him into a phone booth and holds a knife to his throat]: “It’s been a long time since we were this close.”
Tumblr media
(GIF originally posted by @rocktheholygrail)
I don’t know why, but I don’t like the idea of an Erik/Mystique relationship. Maybe it’s just a hold over from how I felt about their seduction scene in First Class.
33) And this right here is Mystique’s motivation, clearer than before.
Mystique: “I’ve seen too many friends die, Erik. I don’t want a war. I only want the man who murdered them.”
Mystique is no longer an idealist. She does not subscribe to Charles’ or Erik’s way of thinking. She is on her own now, which she said in the very beginning of the film. It makes her character and the conflict she has all the more interesting.
34) The first step in Charles accepting who he is comes from accepting his powers. He tries Cerebro, but it’s too much at first. All he has is pain and suffering. But then - and I can’t understate how much I love this - Logan helps guide him.
Logan: “I was your most helpless student.”
Logan is able to guide him, showing off not only his own growth but also the strength in his relationship with Charles/Professor X. We are reminded of all of Logan’s pain as Charles sees it, but we see now that he has moved past it. It is absolutely incredible for me and leads to an amazing scene.
34) Charles (McAvoy) and Professor X (Stewart) meet.
youtube
This scene has much more of an impact now than I was expecting. Charles is at his most broken in life, it will never get worse for him than this. Or so he thinks. He looks into the future and sees just how awful things have gotten and he sees his older self in Professor X. Except when Professor X speaks of the future...he still has faith that it can turn out well. He still has HOPE. Professor X’s endless search for hope has always been his defining feature and it is something he has even in a dark future. It is something Charles has lost and which his older self helps him find again. It is an absolutely beautiful and moving scene, perfect in so many ways. Developing Charles, giving us a peek into the mindset of Professor X, we even get an incredible new theme from composer John Ottman. “Hope (Xavier’s Theme)” I think might be the most moving piece of music in the entire X-Men franchise and I absolutely love it.
35) If you’re a writing student, I suggest you analyze Raven’s character in this film. Particularly the scene where she and Charles are talking about Trask in an airport. It’s an excellent example of how important stakes are to a story and its characters. If a character can leave the scene without what they want and not be devastated, the stakes are too low. Raven’s personal stakes are high as are Charles’. And the fact that Raven doesn’t is still set on this path leaves Charles - in some shape or form - devastated.
36)
Hank [about where his device monitors news]: “Over all three networks. And PBS.”
Wolverine: “All three? Wow.”
Hank: Yeah. And PBS.”
Tumblr media
37) The effect of Charles’ discussion with Professor X has an immediate effect and shows that he IS now that man. He is the man who has hope when all is lost, when everything looks grim. He still has faith in people and hope for the best.
38) How powerful do you think this is to hear?
Logan: “Storm, Scott, Jean. Remember those names.”
Charles [after a moment]: “I’ll do my best.”
Logan: “You’re best is enough.”
Can you imagine what that would feel like? This guy from the future telling you that you’re best is enough. Because that’s all we can ever do is our best. And to know that that is enough is just...I cannot tell you how happy I would be in life to hear those words.
39) Thanks to @orsonkrehnnic for this amazing GIF set that perfectly captures this scene:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
40) The dual climaxes are edited between wonderful, carrying pacing between the two wonderfully and interesting throughout. Cutting between 2023 and 1973 could have been a mess but John Ottman’s editing helps bring the scenes together spectacularly. When one breathes, so does the other, and that’s what works.
41) Logan...
Hank: “In the future, do I make it?”
Logan: “No.”
Tumblr media
(GIF source unknown [if this is your GIF please let me know].)
42) Of course Wolverine still gets his ass kicked by Magneto, even without the metal bones. But I will say that removing him from the final conflict is a strong story choice. Because at this point what’s going on between Erik, Mystique, and Charles isn’t about him. It’s about them. The future is about him but it is much more impactful if it results from a choice by everyday people as opposed to the guy who knows what is about to happen. It’s very smart.
43) If this isn’t a beautiful final line for Ian McKellen’s Magneto I don’t know what is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(GIF originally posted by @hughxjackman)
44) I love this.
Charles [when he can control Raven’s mind]: “I’ve been trying to control you since the day we meet. Look at where that’s got us.”
Charles TRUSTS Mystique. He trusts Raven. He lets her make her own choice and she choses life. She choses to be better. She choses not to become the murderer that Mystique is in the future. But her journey isn’t over yet. That won’t come until Apocalypse.
45) Did I mention I love that Charles embraces the Professor X philosophy?
Hank [about Mystique and Erik]: “Are you sure you should let them go?”
Charles: “Yes. I have hope for them.”
46) I cannot begin to express how satisfying this ending is.
Tumblr media
I wish I could find a video clip of the ending so I can perfectly illustrate just how amazing it is, but everything about it feels EARNED. Everything about it breathes HOPE. And not just for this movies. It may be most effective while watching these back to back, but I geeked out at seeing everything. Seeing Rogue and Bobby back together, Kitty and Colossus teaching a class together, Kelsey Grammer’s brief cameo as Beast, Storm as a teacher. THEY EVEN GOT JEAN AND SCOTT BACK! Everything about it just feels SO GOOD! The characters we’ve cared for and loved for 14 years now are happy and at peace. And so what if Logan fucks up their lives again? Right now, everything is just good.
Note: I also own The Rogue Cut version of this film, which reintroduced a subplot featuring Anna Paquin’s return as Rogue that was deleted from the theatrical release for pacing issues. I WILL be doing a post about that sometime in the future. I’ve never seen it before so whatever that post looks like it’ll be a first time viewing. That’ll be labeled as 173.1.
There is a chance that X-Men: Days of Future Past is the best X-Men film yet (as in has X-Men in the title, so discounting films like Deadpool and Logan). It seamlessly blends together a large cast of characters from both the original trilogy and the First Class cast in a story which does the same. With strong performances throughout and incredible character drama (ESPECIALLY for Charles), it marks a triumphant return for director Bryan Singer. The action is better than ever, featuring that amazing Quicksilver scene, and it is practically perfectly paced. X-Men: Days of Future Past is an incredible entertaining and emotionally satisfying film all fans of the series - old and new - should watch.

Added bonuses include water-resistance that can withstand heavy rain, a hand strap, and an 18-month warranty. All things considered then, this is an exceptional product for someone in need of maximum force in their flashlight.

2. Mag-Lite XL200
The XL200 is another 3 AAA flashlight that’s great if you’re in need of a variety of lights. It comes with five in total: high power, strobe, nite lite, signal mode, and SOS.
This might be of particular use if you’re going for extended treks into the wilderness and feel you may need to rely on a number of different lighting styles based on the situation. It also has a beam distance of 138 metres with 173 lumens to boot, meaning it’s no slouch in terms of power either. Couple these features with exceptional build quality and Mag-Lite has a real winner here, especially for the veteran outdoorsman.

3. ThruNute Ti3
The Ti3’s combination of versatility and power means it’s the best single AAA flashlight on the market. It’s also the brightest single AAA flashlight we’ll look at.
So with a max beam intensity of 120 lumens and going distances of up to 50 metres, the Ti3 has power. And with its three different brightness modes, as well as both a steady and strobing beam, the Ti3 also comes ripe with usability in a variety of situations. All things considered then, you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck with this one.

4. Streamlight CREE LED Flashlight
It’s not as powerful or versatile as the Ti3 but its build quality and usefulness still make Streamlight’s offering one of the better single AAA flashlights on the market. With a slender 3.5-inch length, this offering from Streamlight makes it ultra-convenient when out on the trail or even if you’re at home in need of some extra light.
This compact product offers 28 lumens with a max distance of 52 feet, meaning it isn’t ultra-powerful, but it’ll get the job done for duties in close. What’s nice about this flashlight is its 2.25-hour battery life, with a lifetime estimate of 30,000 hours. In other words, it’ll last you a long time, especially relative to its size and the fact that it only requires one battery. It also has exceptional build quality (as is standard with Streamlight), and its tiny price tag means it’s a good offer value-wise.

5. EdisonBright Nitecore MT06
The MT06 is a worthy product due to its sturdiness and build quality. Powered by 2 AAA batteries, the MT06 can reach up to 160 lumens with a battery length over 5 hours long.
It also features two different brightness modes. While not particularly exciting in terms of a multitude of features or brute strength in lighting power, the MT06 comes highly reviewed and offers a steady and compact solution for those in need of something that has a blend of power, efficiency, and durability. As a result, it may be the best 2 AAA flashlight on the market.

Conclusion
I really like the LC40. I think it’s the best 3 AAA flashlight, the most powerful AAA flashlight, and quite frankly the best AAA flashlight that you can get your hands on. Whether it’s the beam distances of up to 180 metres, the 400 lumens, the build quality, or the added features that it comes with, this is just an exceptional product. Sure the fact that it’s 3 AAA batteries as opposed to 1 or 2 is a minor detractor, but not enough for any other product to dethrone it.
As for the other products, the XL200 is also excellent, and especially so if you’re looking for a variety of light modes. The Ti3 is my recommended go-to if you want the best single AAA flashlight (and the brightest single AAA flashlight too) that’s more compact while still offering some power. Streamlight has a good, highly-reviewed single AAA flashlight as well, that’s particularly good for in close. And the MT06 is once again a good combination of power and build quality, especially relative to other 2 AAA flashlights.
So my ultimate recommendation, then, is to go with what your needs are. The LC40 gives you raw power. The XL200 offers versatility. The Ti3 is the best single AAA flashlight on the market. Streamlight’s is good for precision. And the MT06 has a bit of everything, and is the best 2 AAA flashlight out there. So consider your needs, and go with the product that makes the most sense for you. But ultimately, one of these fives products should keep your days inside or outdoors nice and bright.
