I’ll never understand why DCEU!Harley suddenly had a problem with killing kids in The Suicide Squad (James Gunn) when in DCEU canon, she helped kill Robin, an actual child and seemed to be completely unfazed, considering how she went in on El Diablo, when he accidentally killed his own.
She also told Cassandra Cain in BoP (that was NOT Cass btw and I will die on that hill) that she would kill her if she tried to run. “I do not care that you’re a kid” <-exact words!
Man, DC really can’t get their act together about whether Harley is truly insane and doesn’t care about other’s lives except her own, when it comes to what she wants, whatever that is in the moment.
Tumblr media
OR, that she is actually a good person who just happened to stupidly fall in love with the Joker as his psychiatrist (which, if she was a learned psychiatrist, she would have at least been aware that he was manipulating her) and was just a silly little girl who just wanted love and no gain (I seem to remember her wanting to write a tell all book about him as part of her motivation to be his psychiatrist in the Mad Love comic 🤔), despite having “a PhD, motherfucker”.
Tumblr media
I’d like to know.

new album every day [04.06.2023]
Alex Anwandter - El diablo en el cuerpo
the latest album by Chilean artist Alex Anwandter, El diablo en el cuerpo is a length play loaded with disco beats and dance tracks. it's super easy to bop along to, and though it has its slower, heavier moments, it's definitely something i can see myself revisiting whenever i'm in the mood for a boogie.
my favourite tracks: Maricoteca, Unx de nosotrxs [feat.

Ask game
@docholligay tagged me in an ask game! And I even remembered within a week! And then I clicked off the tumblr post and had to retype, so that bit especially was fun, thanks tumblr.
Rules: answer the questions and tag 9 people you want to get to know better/catch up with.
Three ships: Honestly haven't felt all that shippy recently. I'm always here for KiraDax / the extended ds9 polycule, I platonically ship the entire cast of Haikyuu but maybe especially KageHina (Idiot Rivals to Idiot Friends / No Brain Cells, Just One Volleyball Bouncing Around And Occasionally Triggering A Thought) and Asanoya (the tiny gremlin is soft for the giant anxious marshmallow). And uh. I guess wangxian? Do love some good "oops! we accidentally have a teenage son" energy.
Last song: Definitely something from our (newly updated!) Eurovision bops playlist. The last one I remember hearing is Adrenalina, the annual unfairly catchy San Marino entry. @tallangrycockatiel has had El Diablo, Cyprus's "what if lady gaga, but with unsettling culinary metaphors?" entry in her head, so let's say one of those two.
Last movie: Knives Out - second watch for me, first for @tallangrycockatiel.
Currently watching: we've been halfway through the final season of star trek next gen for...... about 4 months now? should probably just go ahead and finish that. Also 3 episodes from the end of The Untamed with @sinni-ok-sessi!
Currently reading: Just in the last few days finished The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, and haven't yet picked a new book. It'll probably be The Horror in the Museum, a Lovecraft short story collection, because when he writes good horror it's extremely good horror, and when he doesn't roasting him feels good for the soul. I also just remembered that I put down the master and margarita about a quarter of the way through around viva madness week months ago, so should probably just restart that now I'm no longer scouring my thesis for typos.
Currently craving: Watermelon. @esoanem brought an excellent offering to the picnic on friday but my watermelon needs are eternal. Possibly with a salty cheese.
I am pretty sure all my mutuals have already been tagged in this, but if anyone sees this and feels like doing an ask game, consider yourself tagged!

Carlos Vives is a good artist, he sang that one happy background song in Encanto, my fave by him is La Bicicleta
I also like El Diablo by Sanalejo, and lots of Juanes songs, like Mala Gente, and Vivir Mi Vida by Marc Anthony. Enrique Iglesias and Shakira are also some classic ones with songs that usually have tons of energy
(Those last few are a bit less recent but I grew up with ‘em so ^^)
The Spanish version of the Encanto album also really does sound like proper modern Colombian music I’d hear blasting! It sounds really good,I feel like the Spanish version of we don’t talk about Bruno (No se hablan de Bruno) actually sounds better than the English version
Thank you for the song recommendations!! I’ll check them out. I didn’t know Shakira is from Colombia; she really does have some bops that are fun!

Reading David Ayer’s latest post just makes me... well, not depressed, but I just feel bad for him. He worked his ass off on Suicide Squad, and WB swooped in and fucked over his work... and then threw him under the bus when it got bad reviews (yet it still earned a $800+ million global box office, but judging by recent decisions, I think it’s obvious that WB doesn’t care about money...). So it’s just sad that we’re probably never going to see his hard work.
I’m including the cast, too! They worked their asses off and that hard work was barely seen! We barely got to see Katana’s story, El Diablo’s story was somewhat salvaged (David said he really REALLY had to fight to have Chato’s story be included!), Joker- look, like him or not, Jared got fucked over BIG TIME, okay? He got used as a marketing tool, not to mention all those fucking method acting stories, and then he got thrown under a fucking mack truck! Speaking of Joker, Harley’s story (even though I really enjoyed what we saw) got screwed over too! So, there’s all these really cool stories... and we’re probably never going to get to see them.
But I did really like that David has always been giving his  support for James Gunn and his interpretation of the Squad, and vice versa. Look, I will see The Suicide Squad (honestly, my main reservations against it are “am I going to be able to handle the gore?” and “ok so is Harley going to be done with dignity this time or is this going to be a BOP extension?”) and I hope it is good, but, this still really sucks.

The Post-Eurovision ranking and comments from an American that nobody asked for:
1. Switzerland 🇨🇭 Gjon’s Tears - Tout l’univers: I absolutely was enamored by this song, its artistry, and the artist. He can really sing and one of my early favorites from this year. So happy for him to get in the top 3 bc it was well deserved. 100/10
2. Italy 🇮🇹 Måneskin - Zitti e Buoni: Deserved winners. As queer as you can get and I am here for it. Another early favorite of mine constantly fighting with Switzerland for the top spot. 100/10
3. Iceland 🇮🇸 Dadi og Gagnamagnid - 10 Years: A beautiful song dedicated to his wife and deserved Top 5 for sure. Last year’s song would have won hands down so I’m bummed he couldn’t win the first one for Iceland but brilliant song and I hope the group stays together to produce more music. 99/10
4. Bulgaria 🇧🇬 Victoria - Growing Up Is Getting Old: Eurovision fandom will forever say Imaginary Friend or Ugly Cry was the better song to send, but I don’t think they would have won the contest either. This year was strong, and I personally think Growing Up was a perfect choice from Victoria. It deserved top 10 so I was pissed that it came 11th on the night and received so few televotes. 97/10
5. Ukraine 🇺🇦 Go_A - SHUM: To all y’all who said this wouldn’t qualify when the new version came out, eat those words hun. This was a masterpiece, and the live performances just elevated it further. Honestly, Kateryna could step on me, and I would let her. Who doesn’t love an ethnic modern fusion rave? 95/10
6. Serbia 🇷🇸 Hurricane - Loco Loco: I honestly have to say when it came out, it was never breaking my top 20, but here we are. This group of gals is amazing. The choreo, hairography, and the still great vocals won my gay ass over. They served and deserved top 10 in my eye. 90/10
7. Greece 🇬🇷 Stefania - Last Dance: Much like Serbia, I kinda dismissed this as a top 10 song at first, but after many listens and then the live shows, it was one of the best songs this year. Last year’s song was nowhere near a qualifier for me, and then I thought they had a good chance of being top 5 this year. Amazing improvement and can’t wait to see what comes next from Stefania. 80/10
8. Malta 🇲🇹 Destiny - Je me casse: Not going to lie, the studio definitely did more for me. It was up with Italy and Switzerland for winner contention until the live shows. Don’t get me wrong, Destiny is still amazing live, and the song is a deserved top 5 song. However, the costume and staging just really didn’t add to the song and I think detracted a bit. Her song last year was also much better in my opinion. 75/10
9. San Marino 🇸🇲 Senhit ft Flo Rida - Adrenalina: Oh boy this was a party, and the fact Flo Rida actually was there made it even better. The staging and costuming was absolutely camp, and I was here for it. This was definitely not underrated by fans beforehand, but the jury and televote were beyond robberies in my opinion. Granted I know the backing vocals were carrying the chorus a lot so in terms of vocals, I can see where this song got dinged, but this should have been San Marino’s best ever result at Eurovision, and it wasn’t so I’m mad. 60/10
10. France 🇫🇷 Barbara Pravi - Voila: The new Edith Piaf and probably one of the most representative of the country’s culture for a song. A definite deserved runner up on the night but for me 10th place. I loved the staging, the costume, the emotions. It was all right for Eurovision and me. 50/10
11. Cyprus 🇨🇾 Elena Tsingarou - El Diablo: Come through Cyprus with another female pop banger. I’d say if the formula ain’t broke don’t fix it, but wasn’t really enough to crack top 10 this year. Another early favorite of mine this year but soon got eclipsed. Still going to be listening to El Diablo for a while. 49/10
12. Russia 🇷🇺 Manizha - Russian Woman: I can’t lie that at first, this song was absolutely trash to me but quickly rose the ranks and became one of my faves. Same thing happened last year with Uno. We also always love a good female empowerment moment with the native language thrown in. Manizha is a girlboss without the gaslighting and a true queen. Deserved top 10 the night of. 40/10
13. Lithuania 🇱🇹 The Roop - Discoteque: An earworm for first listen and was top 10 for a while for me but like Cyprus, lost out to some others. No doubt this is a deserved top 10 the night of. 35/10
14. Croatia 🇭🇷 Albina - Tick Tock: The first song to get me pressed on it’s placement. Deserved to be in the final over both Israel and Norway (please come for me I don’t care). They freakin rocked that stage during the semis and the song is absolutely a bop. Albina deserved better. 30/10
15. Sweden 🇸🇪 Tusse - Voices: A beautiful song by an amazing artist. Sure the lyrics were a bit cliche Eurovision but guess what...it’s Eurovision. I can hear the voices. Keep carrying on Tusse. 25/10
16. Albania 🇦🇱 Anxehla Peristeri - Karma: This song grew on me a lot. I liked it but wasn’t a don’t skip for a while on my playlist. The live performance changed it for me. She slayed and the staging was everything for Miss Thing. Also native language brownie points. 24/10
17. Finland 🇫🇮 Blind Channel - Darkside: Before you come for me for having this at 17th, keep reading. I’m not a big fan of the lyrics but the song is absolutely fantastic. This style of music isn’t something I pull out on a playlist often, but I had my middle fingers up for this one (and pointed at Germany but we’ll discuss later). Deserved top 10 as they rocked it on stage. 20/10
18. The Netherlands 🇳🇱 Jeangu Macrooy - Birth of a New Age: I absolutely do not understand the hate for this song. I was also a huge fan of Grow last year so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised for being generally alone again. The fact it got 0 points in the televote and only 11 in the jury is not surprising but extremely disappointing to me. This song is a masterpiece much like the ones ranked above it. Jeangu, you are amazing and deserved so much better than this. 20/10
19. Belgium 🇧🇪 Hooverphonic - The Wrong Place: Fantastic song but fantastic artists. Always here for a dark pop moment. Gonna go get my own Johnny Cash T-shirt. 15/10
20. Spain 🇪🇸 Blas Cantó - Voy a Quedarme: Such a heartfelt ballad. I enjoyed it quite a bit and don’t understand the hate it has. Didn’t deserve 0 points in the televote. 14/10
21. Denmark 🇩🇰 Fyr og Flamme - Øve Os På Hinanden: Look we all know this song is cheesy but it’s the cheesiest Velveeta queso loco so it’s ranked so high in my opinion. This is a nod to the whacky and weird Eurovision I love. It’s always in my head and I always find myself dancing along. Deserved to be in the final over two of the songs in Semi 2. 13/10
22. Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 Efendi - Mata Hari: As far as the song goes, it’s enjoyable, but the stage show was a hot mess in my opinion. The choreo looked a mess and the different sheer legging configurations on the backup dancers was not the correct fashion choice in my opinion as I was distracted by the thought of why are they all different. Did deserve their spot in the final though. 12/10
23. Moldova 🇲🇩 Natalia Gordienko - Sugar: The studio version of this song is a heavily replayed one on my playlist bc of the drop and dance-ability of the song. However the downfall of the song was it’s live performance. The staging was fine and the choreo was great but those attempted sexy whisper vocals were not the choice to go with. I don’t want to sugar-coat this 😝 so they were terrible. Glad she made it but I felt her position in the final was one of just pure luck. 11/10
24. UK 🇬🇧 James Newman - Embers: The nul points was a huge ass oof. This song isn’t bad but I can see where people didn’t vote for it bc it’s not super memorable in terms of who all was participating this year. I like the song and always sing and dance along. 10/10
25. Israel 🇮🇱 Eden Alene - Set Me Free: This is how to do a revamp and be successful. Eden is a fantastic artist who can clearly sing, but the live performance was not all that sans the whistle tones. Yet the whistle tones aside, the song is lacking a lot. When looking back at the songs available, this one should not have been the selected one. I was always on the fence with this one and still am. 9.5/10
26. Czechia 🇨🇿 Benny Cristo - Omaga: The live definitely hurt this song in the first minute and a half. The second half was absolutely what should have happened in terms of vocals. Still like the song and listen to it often. 9.25/10
27. Ireland 🇮🇪 Leslie Roy - Maps: This song was a victim of a super strong bloodbath and shoddy staging ideas. The song is arresting and a bop. Leslie’s gruff voice mixed with the modernized Irish sounds is a match made. The staging of this song that required Leslie to run along with the beat and the distracting and constantly changing bits of the performance we’re definitely it’s downfall. It didn’t deserve last place in Semi 1 though. 9.25/10
28. Portugal 🇵🇹 The Black Mamba - Love Is On My Side: I am the first to admit that while I don’t like the song, it deserved the final. The staging and atmosphere elevated the song. 9/10
29. Austria 🇦🇹 Vincent Bueno - Amen: In the battle of the Amens, this one wins solely based on the classy and amazing staging. Don’t get me wrong, Slovenia’s was also elevating but this one did it better. 8.5/10
30. Australia 🇦🇺 Montaigne - Technicolor: This song is a fantastic one for studio. The live since the Sydney Mardi Gras performance has been rough and didn’t necessarily improve. I feel bad bc I do really love this song but it definitely didn’t deserve to qualify. This being said, I love Montaigne, and Don’t Break Me was my runner up last year, and I still listen to it as my anthem when I’m feeling down. I wish I could rank this higher but I can’t. 8.5/10
31. Romania 🇷🇴 Roxen - Amnesia: This song is great in the studio but it got old real fast for me and I don’t know why. This mixed with the poor vocals and the bizarre costume:stage combo was really what did this in and got this low in my ranking. 8.25/10
32. Slovenia 🇸🇮 Ana Soklic - Amen: The loser of the Amen battle, but just barely. The song and vocals are better in my opinion but the whole package was just barely edged out in the end. 8/10
33. Latvia 🇱🇻 Samanta Tīna - Moon Is Rising: Look, this song is nowhere near as good as last years. The queeeeeen sashayed away with that annoying trap beat. 8/10
34. North Macedonia 🇲🇰 Vasil - Here I Stand: Leave it to the gays for bringing musical theatre to Eurovision. The song honestly isn’t that special or memorable but he’s higher up bc his stage and voice are amazing. 7/10
35. Norway 🇳🇴 Tix - Fallen Angel: A great message on mental health outside of the song and Tix seems like a quality fella but I do not like the song. I preferred it in Norwegian. And this low ranking is not at all influenced over him beating out Keiino (but maybe a slight bit tho). 5/10
36. Estonia 🇪🇪 Uku Suviste - The Lucky One: While this was 1000% better than last years entry, it still was relatively boring. The stage was equally as boring so sorry Estonia, but you didn’t make the mark. 4.5/10
37. Poland 🇵🇱 Rafael - The Ride: This throwback to the 80s was a bad one. The attempt at a one hit wonder vibe really hurt it along with the artist’s terrible vocals. Also half the time, he was behind the pyro and relying on backup vocals. 4/10
38. Georgia 🇬🇪 Tornike Kipiani - You: You really should not have to wait so long for the more upbeat rock ending of this. If it was that last 30 seconds for 3 minutes, it would be much better. A definite step back from last year. 1/10
39. Germany 🇩🇪 Jendrick - I Don’t Feel Hate: Jendrick might not feel hate but I do bc that is all I feel when this song comes on. 0.5/10

OK, I'm watching Eurovision 1st semi final with one day delay and boy, I have ~opinions~
1. Lithuania - Discotheque
I like this song and the 80s vibes. Also the fact that they have James Corden as a dancer.
2. Slovenia - Amen
Blah.
3. Russia - Russian woman
That's Eurovision baby! A bop going from pop, rap and traditional music, non English lyrics, crazy costume, it's perfect. No, I've no idea what it says and if it's a problematic song or not, and I don't care.
4. Sweden - Voices
It's a good song. It's not a good Eurovision song. Lack of kitsch. Also for some reason, it gives me the impression of a sample. But I don't know of which song.
5. Australia - Technicolour
I LOVE the fact that Australia joined Eurovision. So they got extra points just for that. Bonus points also for the trash bags / diamonds costume. But yeah, the song is meh.
6. North Macedonia - Here I stand
Is it Christmas? No? Then why did you send a shiny Michael Bublé? We said no ballad.
7. Irland - Maps
I like her voice. But girl, there can only be one Mans Zelmerlow.
8. Cyprus - El diablo
I don't get this song. The half spanish lyrics, the electro hype, the half naked girl. What made you think Eurovision was a really cheap rnb show for cis white men?
9. Norway - Fallen angel
Ah yes, the angel/demon show. An unspoken rule of Eurovision is that there should be at least one every year. Thanks for your sacrifice Norway. Neil Gaiman called, he would like the costumes back for Good Omens part 2.
10. Croatia - Tick tock
Once a Kesha song, now a popular video app. And an actually good Eurovision song! Dancers are Beyonce hot. I wish the whole song would have been in Croatian and not just a small part.
11. Belgium - The wrong place
Having a piano on stage and NOT setting it on fire is such a missed opportunity.
12. Israel - Set me free
This is a perfect radio summer hit I could be listening to at a beach bar. It's not Eurovision kitsch, but it's a punchy song.
13. Romania - Amnesia
Blah. Could have been a good "forest druids meet Britney Spears" performance. Was not.
14. Azerbaïdjan - Mata Hari
I like the girl power, the oriental feeling. A good song, and for some reasons, I want it to be as the soundtrack of a very badass movie.
15. Ukraine - Shum
YES girl, no English!! A flutist! Electro weird noise! A green fur! Astronauts! Shiny halo! I LOVE IT. That's Eurovision.
16. Malta - Je me casse
The voice, the rythm, the trumpet! A very good hit, both for Eurovision and in real life.
Soooo... My top 3 : Ukraine, Russia, Croatia. But for real, Ukraine you get what Eurovision is ♥

So every year after Eurovision is over I listen to the spotify playlist - I NEVER watch or listen before the finale, I want to get my first impression on the final. I legit run a media blacklist on everything.
And see when you've got your headphones on it's VERY different.
I'm not winning internet points but I don't really like Zitti E Buoni! I think it's just not my type of music, Glam Rock isn't really my thing - the only band I liked in that genre is The Darkness.
Je Me Casse is fab - Malta was in my top 5 and def holds up to more listening.
El Diablo is a fuckin dancey bop. I could see this being a dancefloor hit for sure.
Voilà is better on headphones - I actually thought the performance was super forgettable. It's not something I'd pick out to listen to but not bad. I'm a little shocked it did so well.
Discoteque is so good! Reminds me of something but I love the beat and synth.
Voices even sounds like a eurovision song. There is something about the way it builds that screams eurovision. Not to say thats a bad thing - I love it.
10 years was one of the songs I gave 12 points! I thought this was a fantastic eurovsion entry. I loved the Napoleon Dynamite feel of the dance and the lyrics are the sweetest thing! I was the only person in my house (bo and lauren came over) who liked it though.
I have no idea what drugs San Marino was on when they got Adrenalina through... did you really think Europe was gonna look at a fucking sneaky American getting in via the backdoor and be like "Voting for that!" hell no - we ruled this as an auto-disqualification in my house. The song is good - I really like Flo Rida... just not in my eurovision.
Set Me Free actually had a negative turn in our house - mostly because Eden was so skinny! I know you aren't supposed to police peoples bodies, but her legs hardly looked strong enough to hold up her shoes!! The song is good though although not one I'd seek out.
Tout l’univers was bo's 12 points. She was hypnotized by him. However, listening to it now it's super forgetful for me. Just sounds like a lot of other eurovision songs... nothing stands out.
Last Dance was better on the show than on headphones. I liked this a lot on the night and when I listen to it now I'm 100% more meh.
Embers - god poor James. The song isn't half bad actually so maybe I'm bias against the English. I'd love to see Wales, N Ireland and us get a chance to put our own people in. I hated this live cause I felt it was cringey, but it's actually okay. Certainly not worth nil points.
Mata Hari was from the Netherlands so I thought this was an odd pull when you're representing Azerbaijan? It's not too bad though. Not something I would seek out.
Shum is good. I don't know why I like it so much, I just do. I liked it live but prefer it on the headphones.
Russian Woman didn't really hit my radar on the night and I don't think it's a bad song, just not for me.
I actually thought Sugar was one of the songs that didn't get to the final because I didn't reconise it. Turns out it's just that forgetful. Def not on my list.
Loco Loco stuck in my mind on the night mostly because we were trying to think who each one reminded us of. Lots of hair-ology on the night. Forgettable song though.
Now I really liked the set for Growing Up is Getting Old, but my god. It's legit all I could hear. I know it's cruel. Sorry.
The Wrong Place is good. Forgetful on the night but the song is dead smooth and I like it more.
Voy a quedarme - felt like any other song. Nothing stands out even when listening on headphones.
Fallen Angel was one of the stand out songs. Sounded like East 17 and Boyzone and I liked the staging - it was the most 'eurovision' song of the night. It holds up on headphones. Although not gonna lie - could be a Glee song...
Dark Side was my 12 points. I was absolutely GUTTED that they didn't do better on the night - this is 100% a banger. Linkin Park who? I only gave two songs 12 points and I 100% will be adding this to my playlists. BANGER.
Karma - I love the... warble? I think it has a name but I don't know enough about music to know the name. I love when a song actually feels like the place its from? I just love it. Adding to playlist.
Birth of a New Age - I didn't like this on the night, but now I listen to it properly its a fucking brilliant song. Sounds like an anthem.
I don't Feel Hate - this felt like a Troom Troom song on the night - even listening to it now it's just so fake? Sorry Germany! I would say, like Fallen Angel, it was another good 'eurovision' feeling performance.
Love is on my Side - I liked this on the night and I like it still. This is something I would listen to when chilling out. So smooth, so steady, a good tune.
I know that this doesn't match up with the popular opinion but the good thing about eurovision is EVERYONE has an opinion. :D
I love it so much

hey if you were allocating the 12 down to 1 points for this year's finale how would you allocate them?
Sorry this took so long to answer I've been thinking™ v carefully about this. My opinions have changed a lot from first listens with staging and stuff, but this is where I've ended up. Also sorry this is so long lmao
12. Zitti e Buoni - Måneskin (Italy)
I know I stopped posting about them on this blog but they were v seggsy and I liked the song and the vibe and they're the first act I've voted for in a long time
10. El Diablo - Elena Tsagrinou (Cyprus)
Ok ideologically I don't agree with Cyprus just sending Fuego-lite every year, but the on repeat playlist is not lying and this is definitely my favourite girlboss song of the night. They also didn't do that well so morally I feel ok putting it high
8. Dark Side - Blind Channel (Finland)
Idk what to tell you guys I've just been going through a 2005 emo stage recently. Welcome to the Black Parade was in the on repeat playlist last month, so that gives you an idea of where I am mentally
7. SHUM - Go_A (Ukraine)
You're probably going to unfollow me for putting this so low, but there are a lot this year that I love. This one definitely grew on me and is a certified bop. Also maybe the best staging? Anyway this is the last one in the on repeat playlist, so we're going rouge from here
6. Loco Loco - Hurricane (Serbia)
Ok so Elena's only my favourite girlboss (singular) bc this band has girlbosses (plural). Idk just great vibes and a certified bop. They're having a fun time. That video of one of them just talking about Damiano for way too long. Definitely the group I want to be in the most.
4. Voilà - Barbara Parvi (France)
I know it's a ballad, but I fancy girls and you can't just put someone who's exactly my type in front of me and expect me to just ignore that. I loved the drama of the song and her outfit and the staging and also her entire looklab interview makes my heart go !!!!!!!!
4. 10 Years - Dadi Freyr (Iceland) (sorry my keyboard doesn't have the proper characters :()
Love this guy. Again great vibes and I feel very bad that they've basically would've won last year and then couldn't even perform this year cause covid rip. I don't think I love love this song or Think About Things, but maybe that's because my heart is still owned by Iceland's 2019 entry Hatari. I loved the keyboard circle thing tho that was iconic
3. Russian Woman - Manizha (Russia)
The staging really sold me on this one. That moment where she turns round to the wall behind her and all the other woman are singing - chefs kiss
2. Tour l'univers - Gjon's Tears (Switzerland)
Similar reasons to Barbara tbh with the drama and the staging and the outfit, but also idk he just cracks me. His Eurovision things last year were just iconic as well I'm just always thinking about his goats
1. Birth of a New Age - Jeangu Macrooy (The Netherlands)
Bit of a wild card option cause I know it did really badly, but this song was so underrated. It's unique and it was a bop. I can kind of understand why it did badly cause Europe is racist but yeah I think it's the one of the four that didn't deserve the 0 points from the public
Gotta give some honourable mentions to Montaigne, who didn't qualify but who's songs I loved both years and seems so sweet, and Jendrik, who's song I can't stand, but who just seemed to be having the best time and like went out of his way to make everyone else's experience great so
Also shout-out to Omaga by Benny Cristo (who's turquoise carpet interview I also highly enjoyed) for giving me my favourite lyrics of the year: 'You say you gained a few pounds, you blame the apocalypse, but there's no apocalypse long as you're here on my lips'. Absolute poetry.

my eurovision top 39 songs (finally)
anyway i finally got my top 39 completed. under a read more because it can get kinda long with the commentary i added klfdja;sflk (and by that i mean VERY long, maybe a wall of text if i have a lot to say about the song.)
none of this takes rehearsals into account.
basically, 39-37 i don't like, 36-35 are meh, 34-25 are decent, 24-18 are good, 17-12 i enjoy listening to a lot, 11-4 i love, and I would pay for votes for top 3 if i could.
39. Azerbaijan - Efendi - Mata Hari - Honestly, I kinda want to like this song. The instrumentation is nice, especially with the Azeri instruments. Efendi's vocals are ok during the verses. However, her vocals during the MA-MA-MA-MATA HARI part makes this song utterly unlistenable for me. It is just so distracting and ear-grating. Not great for my sensitive ears. And that is without taking anything else into account.
38. Estonia - Uku Suviste - The Lucky One - For some reason reminds me of a boring modern country song. Bland af. At least the melody of the chorus is nice.
37. Cyprus - Elena Tsagrinou - El Diablo - Discount Lady Gaga at the best points of this song. Feels like three songs at once. Also, the lyrics seem like they just went all "What Spanish-sounding words sound spicy? Taco? Tamale? Mamacita?" As a Spanish speaker and as someone of Mexican descent who enjoys those foods, this annoys the living shit out of me. At least I can make El Diablo/Fallen Angel memes out of this. (Honestly, I don't mind the gratuitous Spanish with the words El Diablo.) Also, this song got real old real quick.
36. Slovenia - Ana Soklič - Amen - The gospel vibe is nice, but there is just too much Christianity in it for me to enjoy this song. Sorry, Ana.
35. Moldova - Natalia Gordienko - Sugar - Sounds like a sugary version of Siren Song by MARUV. Kinda boring, but enjoyable in the right circumstances.
34. Georgia - Tornike Kipiani - You - Good to listen to when mind feels blank. At first I kinda liked this song, but nowadays this song has lost its charm. This won't sound out of place alongside boring 70s slow classic rock songs.
33. Austria - Vincent Bueno - Amen - Not something I would listen to regularly, but still nice. For me, easily the biggest downgrade from 2020.
32. Greece - Stefania - Last Dance - Pleasant to listen to, not much else.
31. Portugal - The Black Mamba - Love Is On My Side - Good song, but not my cup of tea. Unfortunately, some great songs have to be near the bottom of my ranking.
30. Germany - Jendrik - I Don't Feel Hate - A fun song to listen to. The novelty wears off after a while. The feel good vibes and ukulele are nice.
29. Israel - Eden Alene - Set Me Free - the song release version was bland and boring, but the revamp. Now THAT is good stuff. The song doesn't seem so empty anymore. I miss the key change from the original, though.
28. Spain - Blas Cantó - Voy A Quedarme - A very emotional and beautiful song from Spain. Again, not usually my cup of tea. However, the melody somehow gives me a nostalgic vibe.
27. North Macedonia - Vasil - Here I Stand - DAMN Vasil has a lovely voice. Nice that he's showing it off here. Too slow of a song for me to enjoy regularly, though.
26. Albania - Anxhela Peristeri - Karma - I don't have much to say other than this song is nice.
25. Bulgaria - VICTORIA - Growing Up Is Getting Old - Pleasant to listen to, but depending on my mood I think this is a beautiful song but not my cup of tea or a complete snoozefest.
24. Serbia - Hurricane - Loco Loco - Fun song, but it feels like something is lacking, and I can't quite put my finger on it.
23. San Marino - Senhit - Adrenalina - Once the initial hype from Flo Rida being on the song died down, this became another typical Eurovision bop.
22. Sweden - Tusse - Voices - At first I thought the song was completely unremarkable and couldn't understand how this won Melodifestivalen. Nowadays it's a nice song to chill to. I gotta respect a perfect televote score from the national final.
21. Ireland - Lesley Roy - MAPS - nice.
20. Croatia - Albina - Tick Tock - Grew on me slightly. Shoutout for including a verse in Croatian.
19. Switzerland - Gjon's Tears - Tout l'Univers - Another grower for me. Doesn't hit as hard as his song from last year, but I dig it.
18. France - Barbara Pravi - Voilà - Lovely chanson right here. I wish it didn't take forever to pick up, though. I was about to completely give up on this song in the middle of my first listen. I'm glad I didn't.
17. Belgium - Hooverphonic - The Wrong Place - Classy. Not much else to say.
16. Ukraine - Go-A - Shum - I'd definitely go rave to this song. I kept finding this song hard to rank due to the white voice. I couldn't decide if I absolutely adored it or if I found it grating. Maybe I just wasn't feeling well when I first thought about it.
15. Lithuania - The Roop - Discoteque - Lots of fun, doesn't have the charm that On Fire had last year. I would dance to this song.
14. Poland - RAFAŁ - The Ride - I actually kinda like this song???? Even with Rafal's vocals??? I know he has political controversies, but I can't help but think this song is nice. A better, less controversial singer would benefit this song, though. I'm not counting the revamp just yet since it was released too recently.
13. Latvia - Samanta Tīna - The Moon Is Rising - This song gives me nostalgic mid to late 2000s hip hop vibes. The guitars in this song are lovely.
12. Romania - ROXEN - Amnesia - Definitely something that can put me in a trance if I'm in the right mood.
11. Czechia - Benny Cristo - omaga - Nice, catchy, I would dance to this.
10. Malta - Destiny - Je Me Casse - Damn, Destiny has a lovely voice! And the song itself is wonderful. I'm not a fan of the amount of Swedish talent being used instead of Maltese talent, but I really do enjoy listening to this.
9. Denmark - Fyr og Flamme - Øve Os På Hinanden - another really fun song! This really grew on me. Nowadays if I want to listen to a Eurovision song, this is one of the first songs I think of.
8. The Netherlands - Jeangu Macrooy - Birth of a New Age - I can vibe with this. You can hear the passion in this song. I wish I could let my body do the talking right now, but y'all can't see that with just a tumblr text post.
7. Russia - Manizha - Russian Woman - I was NOT expecting this to come out of Russia when it won the national final. I wasn't expecting to like this either. The message is great, the instrumental is great, everything about this is brilliant.
6. United Kingdom - James Newman - Embers - A funky song. I LOVE James's voice. Massive upgrade from last year in my opinion. I'm a sucker for brass in an upbeat song. Unfortunately, I have had the staging kinda spoiled and I am VERY skeptical about this coming out of bottom five. I'm done with the BBC.
5. Australia - Montaigne - Technicolour - There is a Lot happening in this song and I am all in for it. I'm kinda terrible at parsing lyrics, but it's a non-issue when I can follow Montaigne's voice and forget about the lyrics. Ironically enough, it's Montaigne's voice that also worries me this Eurovision season - mostly whether she was able to pull off her live on tape performance off.
4. Iceland - Daði og Gagnamagnið - 10 Years - I didn't think Daði could pull it off against this year, but he did it. I like this just a little more than Think About Things, which was my favorite song last year. I'm still a little gutted that this pandemic robbed him of a probable victory, but I've made peace with it. I still need to learn the dance moves, though.
3. Italy - Måneskin - Zitti E Buoni - FUCK YEAH A KICKASS ROCK SONG IN EUROVISION! This song gave me massive rock en español vibes on my fist listen, and honestly this is something I would bang my head to if I had the same body I did when I was 15.
2. Norway - TIX - Fallen Angel - I was not expecting to like this song much, let alone becoming THIS obsessed with TIX. In fact, he wasn't even on my radar for winning MGP. I listened to Ut Av Mørket for the first time and thought something like 'this is boring af, but at least it's in Norwegian'. And then he changed it to English, which I wasn't a fan of at first. And then one day the lyrics clicked - especially with my own struggles with mental illness. To this day this is one of only two Eurovision songs to actually make me cry. Even now he still isn't my MGP winner (that honor goes to JORN), but he has definitely won my heart.
1. Finland - Blind Channel - Dark Side - To say that this song kicks ass would be an understatement for me. This song has just the right mix of rock, pop, and even metal. Ever since I found out that this song would be in the national final, I knew that it would be my favorite this whole Eurovision season regardless of who won UMK. Yes, my jaw dropped when I saw the lead Blind Channel had in UMK. I literally cancelled my plans to watch the MGP final live because of these guys. I am not disappointed. Even Måneskin couldn't bring these guys down in my ranking. And while the lyrics might be a bit iffy, they did get me through rough times. I hope these guys are able to bring rock music back like they want to. But for now, I will give them my (useless tbh) douze points.

My ESC Top 10
Alright, I’ve finally settled on my top 10. This will probably change once I’ve seen the full show, but for now, I think....I’m happy. Maybe. lol.
#10. Lithuania - Discoteque - Such a fun quirky bop and purple and yellow was my aesthetic when I was a kid so naturally I’m drawn to it here. lol
#09 - Cyprus - El Diablo - ....I have not been able to stop playing this since I first heard it so there must be something special about it to my ears. Catchy as hell. I love it.
#08 - Finland - Dark Side - Yeah. Nostalgia is hitting me hard with this one. But I also think its an incredibly well-produced, well-crafted song. I like the mix of singing styles and love the ebb and flow of energy. I think it keeps the song interesting.
#07 - France - Voila - I love her expressive vocal performance of this song. I think that’s what ultimately elevates it for me. Beautiful storytelling. Another very well-crafted song.
#06 - Croatia - Tick-Tock - SUCH A BOP. This one took a few listens to truly grow on me but once it did I just couldn’t shake it off. I love her energy. Song is super catchy and cute. Love it.
#05 - Russia - Russian Woman - This is such an interesting composition. It’s constantly switching and changing and I’m kinda into it? LOVE LOVE her energy. Very keen to see the full performance live at esc
#04 - Ukraine - Shum - I really like the mix of traditional and modern with this song. They combine both styles really well. it’s something different, which I like.
#03 - Italy - Zitti E Buoni - Finally I get the hype for Italy. Took me enough years. lol. Excellent rock song. Great pacing. Not my typical genre but after a couple of listens I got it. The highlight is definitely that bass breakdown in the bridge. SO GOOD.
#02 - Switzerland - Tout L’univers - I appreciate a song that makes me feel all of the things. Like this one! Emotional resonance + Beautiful melody + Stunning vocals = magic in my ears.
#01 - Malta - Je me casse - Such a fantastic bop! Just on its own, this is my winner. It’s got fantastic energy. She sounds fantastic. I love the 20s flavour. it’s just a fantastic bop all around.
There ya have it. Keen to see how things change when the semis roll around. There’s so many good entries this year!

I wanted to do a more in-depth ranking of my faves from yesterday.
So I give my 1 point to Australia
I liked her outfit I liked the rainbowy colours and honestly I loved her spirit. Performing miles away from everybody else must have sucked but she did her best and I think that's what matters.
I give my 2 points to Sweden
I'm one of those people that always complain about Sweden being extremely basic but still doing consistently well... But at the same time their basic songs have this "homey" and "familiar" feeling to them so I can't ignore them.
I give my 3 points to Belgium
I see everyone giving so much shit to Hooverphonic for being "boring" or "basic" or for the band members, and particularly the lead lady, being too old and I say fuck that. Yes they were too "mild" for Eurovision but there were far worse entries competing and you guys ate it the fuck up and even got them in the final and I'm sure the second semi will be much worse because the majority of those entries are actually boring. Hooverphonic was good.
I give my 4 points to Romania
A shame she didn't qualify because the song was good and she seemed so nice. Not to mention that if this was from a Western or Northern European country you guys would have already turned her into a superstar... A pity.
I give my 5 points to Croatia
ALBINA WAS ROBBEDT!!!!1!
I was so confident she would make it but when I saw both Israel and Belgium (that were both kind of on the verge of not making it) did qualify I went "Uh-oh"
A bop will not be forgotten, and I'm glad to see we actually all seem to agree on her being robbed.
My 6 points go to Malta
I don't have much to say about Malta other than the fact that it's an obvious bop and that I admire Destiny's emotional and mental maturity despite only being eighteen! The way she's been handling all the fatshaming comments since her first rehearsal is remarkable!
Go girl!
My 7 points go to Russia
Manizha's performance was so fun! And I really love her passion and energy both on and off stage! She's amazing and Russia sending a feminist song I think is pretty important.
Now... With all that being said, Russia as a country is notorious for handling a lot of things in a very shitty way, from LGBT rights to the ongoing situation with Ukraine, among other things, so even though I think Manizha is wonderful and her message should be heard, I won't be voting for Russia in the final, as a means of protest against their shitty policies.
My 8 points go to Azerbaijan
The song is so catchy! And Efendi is GORGEOUS, if there's one thing I can't hold against TIX is him being obsessed with her! Now, for the same reasons explained above I won't be voting for Azerbaijan either. Love the song, love Efendi but that's it. And I'm actually surprised by Europe's tiny attention span. A lot of people complain about Israel and straight up booed them but apparently it seems Europe thinks what's happening between Armenia and Azerbaijan is okay? Or did you forget already?
And again, DO NOT hate Eden Alene for being Israeli, do not hate Efendi for being Azerbaijani, do not hate Manizha for being Russian etc. It's not the artists' fault.
Sure you can dislike certain artists or songs, I really can't stand TIX, Jendrik and Gjon's Tears for example, but not because of the countries they represent.
Okay, I think I got all the controversial stuff out of the way so moving on with my 10 points which I give to Ukraine!
I've been obsessed with Go_A since last year and I'm so so glad that not only they returned but they also outdid themselves! Loved their performance!
And finally, my 12 points of course go to Cyprus!
Yes a Greek giving 12 points to Cyprus, how original but, honestly? The Nordic countries consistently do the same and so do the German-speaking ones and many other cliques yet you fuckers only boo us. And sure go ahead and boo Greece getting 12 points from Cyprus because most of our latest entries don't even deserve 1 point from Cyprus or anyone else but Cyprus has had a major fucking glowup since 2018 with Eleni Foureira and Fuego so you will shut the fuck up and respect Cyprus or you're gonna catch these hands.
Now, about the song and the performance itself, I really love the staging and the outfits and the makeup and the dancing and the song itself. Elena's accent in English is another thing though because it's not Greek, it's not British, it's not American it's just weird. But the song slaps so I can deal with it.
That's all for now~

Eurovision 2021 pre-show ranking #39 - #27
Less than a week until Eurovision 2021 is upon us. The wait has been gruelling but now it is almost here and finally my thirst for more Eurovision will be quenched. Also rushing this out last-minute before the opening ceremony tomorrow.
I’m only taking the official music videos and the national final performances (if those exist) into account so I expect my ranking to be turned upside-down once the live-shows happen as per usual, especially with how insanely strong this year’s entries are. I won’t talk much about last year’s cancelled entries because losing an entire year’s worth of songs still hurts but I thought it would be fun to do a little comparison for each country about which year’s song I prefer, shown in brackets at the end of each entry.
...
39. Uku Suviste - The Lucky One - Estonia 🇪🇪: It’s like Estonia took Sweden’s formula of handsome guy singing inoffensive pop songs, only worse, for the last three years. Come on, Estonia, you can do so much better. "Rändajad" (2009), "Siren" (2010), "Kuula" (2012) and "Goodbye To Yesterday" (2015) are proof for that. (2020/2021)
38. Tusse - Voices - Sweden 🇸🇪: I feel painfully indifferent about this and that saddens me. Sweden tends to send very polished pop entries that work for me more times than not, but geez, I can’t but feel like this song is incredibly bland. There’s no particular emotion it evokes in me, neither through the musical arrangement nor the lyrics. It does have ear worm quality since I sometimes catch myself summing the chorus , albeit dispassionately, so I can see it doing well voting-wise just because people will remember the song and its anthem-like qualities. (2020/2021)
37. Tornike Kipiani - You - Georgia 🇬🇪: I appreciate with all my heart that Georgia keeps sending bold but quality entries that often go against Eurovision trends and every time I am heart-broken that the general public doesn't appreciate them enough for them to reach the final ("Three Minutes to Earth" (2014), "For You" (2018), "Keep on Going" (2019). This year’s entry is equally bold in its simplicity but I fear this time it’s simply a misfit for this show no matter how you look at it. It’s just too relaxed and mundane. It stings a bit since Tornike’s song last year “Take Me As I Am“ was one of my top favorites. Oh man, I still get chills when I listen to that one. The only reason this is higher than Sweden is because it’s kinda wholesome. (2020/2021)
36. RAFAŁ - The Ride - Poland 🇵🇱: It has a peppy beat that I can get behind and I like watching the MV for the dancers. I'm a simple man lol. Choreography is done by Agustin Egurrola, one of the judges on SYTYCD Poland when it was still on, so that’s neat. Maybe I’ll check out the new dance show “Dance Dance Dance” that sorta replaced it. I’m only three seasons behind anyway.  (2020/2021)
35. James Newman - Embers - United Kingdom 🇬🇧: I feel a bit bad because this is one of the greatest efforts the UK has spent on ESC in the last few years, but still, I just... don’t care for it? It somehow feels sterile and that’s just something I can’t party to. I guess it’s a pity the UK decided to actually try seriously competing for once by sending a bop only for all the other countries to bring their A-game this year. (2020/2021)
34. ROXEN - Amnesia - Romania 🇷🇴: I think I like the word combination “self-love amnesia” but that’s one of the very few elements I find interesting about this entry. (2020/2021)
33. TIX - Fallen Angel - Norway 🇳🇴: Super catchy so I can forgive the corny mess of a stage performance that he’ll likely replicate for the actual show. I did expect something better from the guy who co-wrote Ava Max’s “Sweet But Psycho”. (2020/2021)
32. Hooverphonic - The Wrong Place - Belgium 🇧🇪: I guess the Belgish delegation realized that using singers barely old enough to drink to sing the moody songs they’ve been putting out the past few yeaars might not be such a good idea after the disaster in 2019. While I do think that Hooverphonic is experienced enough to avoid the same pitfall I can’t help but think that the song simply goes nowhere and ends up in an uncomfortable swamp. (2020/2021)
31. Senhit - Adrenalina - San Marino 🇸🇲: Speaking of songs that go nowhere... I wish I liked this more since it's obvious how enthusiastic Senhit feels about this show with the myriads of professionally produced ESC covers she made and the amount of artistry she pours in everything. The entry itself is simply too monotone for me. Not feeling the hype about Flo Rida tbh. (2020/2021)
30. Benny Cristo - omaga - Czech Republic 🇨🇿: I think similarly to his song last year it will take the live performance for me to really warm up to it. The “Here’s Johnny Benny” moment in the MV is absolute gold though. (2020/2021)
29. Jendrik - I Don't Feel Hate - Germany 🇩🇪: The chaotic energy is as endearing as it is tiring for me. Let’s hope the German delegation doesn’t regret choosing this over El Diablo which was one of the songs which made the final rounds of the internal selection before it was given to Cyprus. (2020/2021)
28. Fyr & Flamme - Øve Os På Hinanden - Denmark 🇩🇰: I’m digging the retro vibes. Also cute dance moves from the singers.  (2020/2021)
27. Vincent Bueno - Amen - Austria 🇦🇹: The generally positive and uplifting vibes of this song belie the sorrowful lamentation of a broken man to a higher being about what’s been taken from him. That’s the implications I got from this and it would align well with what’s been reportet about his personal life, explaining the sudden shift from the dancey songs Vinecnt is known for to gospel light. (2020/2021)
Oh, and because I feel bad for ranking Uku last, here’s a picture of him running to god knows where.
