Hassel and Baxcalibur Analysis
This has been bugging me for a while, and I won’t be surprised if there’s already a post like this. But Hassel’s eyes are so interesting! There are several shots that specifically zoom in on his eyes
Tumblr media
His eyes are incredibly detailed compared to the average Pokémon eyes; the ombré effect is very stunning. Fiery, almost. It fits well with the background of his skills. Even though he’s a lovable, emotional art grandpa, there’s power that goes generations back. But I can’t help but notice his Baxcalibur, the leader of his team in the Elite Four battle.
Tumblr media
The eye markings and color are remarkably similar! I don’t know if there’s a deeper significance or if it’s a design choice to connect these two together; but the eyes were the first sign of a deliberate connection between Hassel and Baxcalibur, and I find this rabbit hole to be quite interesting!
The TCG cards for the Baxcalibur line really stunned me, in the best way possible!
Tumblr media
These cards are gorgeous! They’ve been outdoing themselves with the card art. I don’t know what these cards could be referencing, but they seem to be very abstract and artistic. Perhaps something else connect Baxcalibur and Hassel together?
What really intrigued me was Hassel’s connection to “royalty.”
Tumblr media
His Friendship Quest reveals that he came from a long line of prestigious Dragon-type Trainers. He was supposed to be the next head of the family, but he ran away from this pre-chosen ‘destiny.’ He is the heir, so to speak.
Tumblr media
In all of his battles, Hassel makes more references to royalty. He refers to himself as ‘a dragon,’ and later says that only a dragon deserves a throne. When he terastallizes his Baxcalibur in the E4 battle, he refers to the Tera Jewel as a ‘crown.’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looking as Baxcalibur’s name, it is a reference to Excalibur, a legendary sword in Arthurian legend. It is said that the one who wields the sword will become the great king of Britain, which in the legends, was King Arthur. Seeing the deliberate connection between Baxcalibur and Hassel, it seems like Hassel was supposed to be this ‘King Arthur’ of his family. He was supposed to lead his family to greatness.
The Japanese name for Baxcalibur (Seglaive) also intrigued me. Seglaive seems to be derived from ‘glaive,’ a European polearm weapon. I thought I reached a dead end with this one, as I couldn’t find anything interesting with glaives. But then looking into it, the polearm subclass of weapons used to be fashioned from farming equipment. Looking at it, it really is a stick with a knife on the end. Due to this, it was the preferred weapon of farmers and in peasant rebellions. Hassel’s storyline is literally rebelling against his inheritance because it’s not his dream.
(Edit: I want to think this is a purposeful connection, because Baxcalibur’s back spines look nothing like a glaive or gladius xD maybe I’m on to something)
Tumblr media
This last point may be a stretch (but when is it not when it comes to me haha) but Baxcalibur seems to be inspired by kaiju, strange beasts in Japanese media. Kaiju are often humanoid in shape and stand upright because a human needs to fit inside the kaiju costume. The first kaiju film is considered to be 1954’s Godzilla, directed by Ishirō Honda. Godzilla is known to be the King of the Monsters.
I think some sort of metaphor can come out of this, with Hassel’s family trying to force him into the role of the Dragon-type heir, as if the role was a kaiju costume.
Tumblr media
Haha I went farther down the rabbit hole than I expected; this was initially supposed to be about the eyes! Seriously though, I’m a huge defender of how much love was put into this game, and it’s a shame that it was rushed. These characters have a lot of depth. I definitely stretched some points, but I think some of this still holds water. There’s a deliberate connection between Baxcalibur and Hassel, and I hope to see more of them in the upcoming DLCs! ^_^

bsd characters and what visions + weapons i think they would have in genshin impact
feat — dazai, chuuya, kunikida, kenji, yosano, kyouka, atsushi, akutagawa (all seperate)
warnings — manga spoilers(?)
a/n — this took so much longer than it needed to. ALSO, why did i only just find out that BSD SEASON 4 WAS ANIMATED?? WHAT??
also do ya'll want me to make a part 2, with the hunting dogs, decay of angels.. and like other characters?? lmk if you would enjoy that!!
Tumblr media
i think DAZAI would definitely be a hydro catalyst 😭. first of all, his iconic suicide book is very fitting and would be the catalyst. with hydro, it just suits him,,, also including the fact that he’d probably attempt to drown himself with it every few seconds. also, y'all, take a quick few seconds to imagine him having an attack animation similar to KOKOMI'S. he would sooo move around like a little mermaid, splashing his enemies for shits and giggles.
i also think he would be more of a support character, temporarily nullifying his opponent’s abilities and then switching him out for the dps. of course since his power is so op, we can’t forget the special hydro cooldown that lasts for an eternity 😍.
Tumblr media
CHUUYA, i believe, would possess a pyro vision. along with either a polearm or a sword but im leaning more towards him being a character who attacks quickly with a polearm. also, his idle animation would totally him being super dramatic with him twirling his hat around and having his cape blowing in the wind.
i feel like his attack animations would be really aggressive with half of his monologue just yelling, lmao. countering dazai, he would be a dps which makes him the perfect character to be paired with him - including the constant vaporise reactions. (they’re soulmates, your honour).
Tumblr media
next, we have KUNIKIDA. he is definitelyyy a geo catalyst, and you can’t change my mind. his little ideals book would of course be his catalyst. other than the fact it fits his whole colour aesthetic, i think contracts and ideals are similar in one way or another — with the strict sense of there being order, hence why i chose geo.
referring to his overall abilities in the manga, his whole thing is being able to create anything and it’s quite resourceful. i see it as being a supportive ability as he has limits, so naturally his place in the party would be support. possibly even sub dps? let’s say the more constellations you have of him, the easier it would be for him to be built as a sub-dps.
Tumblr media
KENJI (the best char and my bby) would have a dendro vision, and his choice of weapon would be a claymore. he’s a farmer and dendro is quite literally nature and shit. claymore, because it fits him the most out of all the weapons and additionally, you’ve definitely got to be hella strong to even wield one and his ability IS super strength… so there’s that. just imagine him happily swinging around a claymore with zero effort at all.
i honestly think he would be a really versatile character… maybe like bennett? for example, healing could be one of his passive talents, or it could come from his burst. like you could either build him as a healer/support or a damage dealer. i’d say his main role would be sub-dps with a long cooldown as in the manga, it’s canon he has to be hungry in order for his ability to work — which means that he’d have to wait.
Tumblr media
YOSANO would be a cryo claymore. honestly, cryo just fits her vibe really well. manga spoilers, when she was in the port mafia with mori she was definitely going through the most traumatic points in her life which lead to her feeling unloved and abandoned due to the treatment she received from mori and the overall environment of where she was forced to work — so that’s my explanation for cryo. yosano is usually seen holding this big ass knife, and a claymore is a bigass sword, so naturally i chose her to wield a claymore as it has the closest resemblance to her canon weapon that she uses.
of course, her having a healing ability in the manga makes her the healer of the party.. who would’ve guessed!!! one of her movesets would probably be something where she has to damage the teammate she’s healing and then heal them straight afterwards. idk if it makes sense, but let’s say she places something that gradually removes the character on the field’s health, and when their hp reaches a certain point, the object will burst and heal them + the whole team (including herself). it’d be kinda dumb in game but thats all i can think of lol.
ignore how long this is, yosano is a very complex character - and if you guys want, i wouldn’t mind doing a character analysis of her, or anyone tbh.
Tumblr media
KYOUKA would be a cryo sword user. the sword is self explanatory — with her ability being a phantom who wields a sword. for the cryo vision, her ability is called ‘demon snow’ so naturally i would pick that. not only does her ability associate with the cold, ice, etc… but judging from her past and personality, i’m even more confident in picking a cryo vision.
she’d probably be a main dps and her moveset would be similar to razor's, with the wolf thing appearing and attacking alongside him in electro. i’m imagining demon snow appearing from behind once you press her burst and attacking simultaneously with her, embedding the enemies with cryo. ALSO, she’d definitely have an alternate sprint, like ayaka’s because she's just cool and majestic like that.
Tumblr media
okay, realistically RANPO would not have a vision 💀…bc like, yk, the whole fake ability thing LOL. but for the sake of this, i’m gonna say he would have an anemo vision, paired with being a catalyst user. my reasoning for this is that, firstly, anemo is simply the most fitting for him out of all the elements BUT also, anemo characters are very… whimsical. and ranpo is basically the definition of whimsical. (anemo characters are just better)
for catalyst, ranpo is a lazy fuck and it’d be funny to imagine him just standing in the middle of the battlefield throwing out long ranged attacks and whooshes of wind from a single position on the arena. from this, he would most likely be a support character and POSSIBLY… a sub dps. it would get more plausible the more constellations you’d have of him. also, i CANNOT imagine this man wielding any type of weapon 💀. just think about him flailing a sword around or struggling to pick up a claymore. my man is a PRINCESS.
omg also, i just came to a realistion. he'd basically be a heizou <3 ..but successful.
Tumblr media
ATSUSHI would be a pyro sword user. THIS DECISION WAS REALLY HARD.. but he’s just got that fire in him, you know. i also thought about labelling him as a cryo user, judging from his past, but it didnt really fit him and besides - hes a passionate guy; about the detective agency, fighting and all that.
him being a sword user is mostly just the process of elimination, and it isn’t that bad of a choice either. being a sword or a claymore user would work for him, but ultimately i chose a quicksword because… he’s just a scrawny little guy. (ignoring the fact that he can literally turn into a ravenous beast)
Tumblr media
AKUTAGAWA would be an electro bow. his rashoumon is super cool, and it looks sort of electric. ALSO, him being electro, goes so amazingly well with atsushi being pyro. the pyro and electro reaction is overload and it sort of creates a big knockback explosion, WHICH FITS THEM SO WELL? they have clashing ideal’s and powers, and they’re also on like, opposing sides — but in the end it makes sense, and it works for them. also one thing, i love how they’re literally designed to be a pair. in the manga atsushi has a black streak in his hair, contrasting aku’s white ends. i wish bones added that to his design <;/3
anyways, i was going to choose either bow or catalyst for him, but in the end i chose bow. i can imagine his ability to look somewhat similar to some of sara’s animations, and besides i think he would really rock being a bow user anyway. however, i dont think his skillset would be RELIANT on it, like ganyu. he would be more like venti, his worth mostly coming from his normal attack and burst.

for the polearm question, i think in media swords and one handed weapons just have more popularity and more versatility, hence why people trend towards those weapons. Plus in my experience in D&D, i usually play a mixed magic character and like to have one hand ‘free’ to cast magic. but i’ve recently been reading more media with spear fights (brandon sanderson’s stormlight archive series, the poppy war, etc) and they’ve been giving me more ideas of how polearm fights would happen and now i’m trying to trend towards spears as a weapon of choice in games. I think they’re super cool and i appreciate when devs and authors have the option for them in games.
I do agree with your points, i think polearms work for fights and battles that occur in wide spaces or primarily on cavalry, since they have that reach. and they do have a context of being a ‘lesser’ weapon, in that it’s more for infantry and lower ranks in military. I’m no expert unfortunately so if there are trends in warfare i’m missing that would be good to know! i think it would be cool to have polearms that can break down when not in use for easier travel, to go along with hiding weapons and swords.
I've def been meaning to read the Stormlight Archives- have heard a lot of good of that one. Have not heard of Poppy War though. Might check it out.
And thank you for your thoughts! you def brought up a point I hadn't considered.
Response under the cut, though, so it doesn't get too long. But, just to be super clear, am no expert and don't have first hand experience. Just my own research and finding cool informative things.
That is a good point on the versatility- swords can generally be one handed or two with different pros and cons for each and, especially in magic setting with rules that fit, can make it even more important to easily have one hand available. But even without, being able to go from one handed to two or such without completely (or mostly) losing control of your weapon can be important. It also allows for shields (spear and shield is also a thing, and like the shield wall you stab thru like vikings or romans- that's fucking brutal).
And I am by no means an expert either, just somebody with an interest. But spears have been around forever and generally speaking people have liked being farther from the enemys' pointy bits which makes spears great. Especially against swords or anything that isn't reach. And stabbing isn't the hardest thing to learn, which means random farmers and peasants enlisted to fill the army could reasonably use one, along with whatever knife, hatchet, or axe they brought with them. Militias were fond of spears. Spears and polearms were also incredibly useful in dealing with cavalries. So, for a military, spears were amazing. Cheap, easy to learn, were dangerous in simple formations, and could be upgraded. And I mean, that's a limited scope with limited interest in terms of a story and narrative. It's not exactly the set up for a Heroe's Quest, unless starting there and mastering the spear or whatever polearm.
Outside of a formation and battle it's a little different, of course. Outside of a big ol' formation and army you'd want to be more than just basic with the polearm- not that you need to be to still be a threat. That reach still makes them formidable assuming the other person isn't extremely skilled, compared to them. Like, most duels I've watched, one of the few ways to realistically deal with more than one enemy is to have more reach than them- and I'm a fan of Rule of Cool and beating up crowds, but it's good to consider I think.
As for bendy spears, there are a few types. More like quarterstaffs, I think. They’re basically long flails. So, also a cool and neat option! But you do lose the stab and a lot of the reach. Unless doing like that whip Soul Calibur sword that locks in place, but even then, the bends will always be the weak point. Still, just means you have a weakness, so the story should exploit it for the character to overcome later.
Polearms and spears are cool and neat. They have been thru all of history around the world and different ways to use them- PLUS the quarterstaff (which, in media, a lot of times they mix and match techniques cause... stabbing isn't as cinematic I gather) and with a bit of Rule of Cool spice, are fun. And I don't mean Dynasty Warriors level of spice. That's a lot of Rule of Cool. A whole lot. Which is fine, if that's your world, but not necessarily required I'd think, to make polearms useable for a protagonist, especially one in a fantasy setting. Which is why I just am confused why I see so little of it. Troy had a big spear duel, GOT had that one spear duel that I know of, Fate/Zero has the lancers (again, only have watched Troy myself, not the other two, just know of them and about them and too much cause fandoms are loud). Maybe I'm just in the wrong corners I guess?

genshin x creepypasta - jeff, ben, jane
hi im swag and this is an idea im going to be working on so suck it
i actually used the small amount of brain that i had to really think on some of these headcanons and aspects. i dont know if someones ever done this but i dont see anyone else
jeff : ngl jeff kinda leaves me in between pyro and visionless. i love the idea of a visionless jeff because, jeff is a narcissist. i feel him obtaining a vision would be almost like an insult to him. i guess his strength would feel kinda.. threatened? to put it simpler, he feels like he does not need the vision to be strong and hes good enough without it.
yet on the other hand, i like the idea of jeff being pyro. id even go as far to say he’d become the pyro archon. i dont say this because i think hes powerful, i say this because jeff’s personality radiates with fire. hes very easily irritated, is always angry, and much like fire hes hard to control. the archon factor comes from the fact that jeff has conquered fire, hes been through it and his dangers and survived. and for people like jane, he even used that fire to harm others. and i know you’re thinking, “what about jane then?” i have different views on jane, and youll see why later. jeff would use a nice sword, and itd be short to match his knife.
ben : ben is the electro archon 100%. there is no other candidate that fits the role like he does. one, ben can control lightning, he can teleport, he can go through electricity- and much like every electro vision bearer, ben is different. ben is seen as an outcast. what also brings me to this conclusion is the raiden shogun’s idealogy of eternity. the moon children, bens cult, often refer to something called ‘the eternity project’ where they kill their physical bodies and replace their mind with a digital being; allowing for the individual to live forever. i believe ben would be a catalyst; for he can cast spells at the snap of his fingers. and also; bens main source is electro, but that doesnt mean ben owns multiple delusions.
my reasoning for this isnt to make ben overpowered; but to show his lust and desire for all the power he can get his hands on
jane : yes, jane did also conquer fire; but i feel she fits the spot i put her in more. much like characters such as albedo or ningguang, she is very calm. even in times of panic she holds and stands her ground. a common recurring thing in geo bearers are they work hard. jane works hard, not only for herself but for vengeance. jane has a goal and she knows what it is. unless jeff, jane plans things out ahead of time.
i know like, in canon, jane uses the same weapon as jeff. but since she wants to be better than him; i feel like it’d be fitting to give her a claymore. it would show that she can wield more weight on her back. i thought about giving her a polearm because girlboss, but the claymore idea made sense to me.
also designs r coming soon my phones never charged long enough. next up r sally, slenderman, n ej btw (can change) also maybe nina

I took historical sword-fighting lessons to make the fights in my novel more realistic - here’s what I learned.
Tumblr media
Edit: Whew, this blew up! Stoked so many of you find this useful. :) Leave me a follow if you like, I’ll try to make more research posts like this (next one will probably be about my meeting with a linguist for a fictional language).
To make the fighting scenes in my low fantasy novel more realistic, I went to see a trainer for historical sword-fighting last week, both to barrage her with questions and to develop realistic choreographies for the fight scenes in the novel. Since I figured some of what she told me might be useful for you too, I put together a small list for you. Big thanks to Gladiatores Munich and Jeanne for making time! (Here are some more pictures if you're interested.)
Caveat: I’m by no means a sword-fighting expert myself, so take these nuggets with a grain of salt – I might have misremembered or misinterpreted some of the things Jeanne told me. If I did, feel free to tell me.
1.) Weapon choices need to make sense
Let’s start with a truism: always ensure your character’s weapons make sense for a.) their profession, b.) their cultural background and c.) the environment they’re going to fight in. A farmer probably couldn’t afford a sword and might use a knife or threshing flail instead, and someone who doesn’t want to be noticed probably wouldn’t be milling about sporting a glaive or another large weapon. Also, soldiers native to a country with wide open plains would be more likely to carry long-range melee weapons such as spears or large swords, than those from a country consisting of mostly jungle or dense forests. The same applies to situations: if your character is going to be fighting in close quarters (even just a normal house), he’d get little value out of a spear or even a longsword, as there’d be no space to swing it effectively.
2.) Boldness often beats skill
In real swordfights, recklessness was often more important than technique. The fighter less afraid of getting injured would often push harder, allowing them to overpower even opponents with better technique.
3.) Even a skilled fighter rarely stands a chance when outnumbered
While a skilled (or lucky) fighter might win a two-versus-one, it’d be extremely unlikely for even a single master swordsman to win against superior numbers, even just three and if they’re below his skill level. The only way to plausibly pull this off would be to split the opponents up, perhaps by luring them into a confined space where you could take them on one by one. The moment you’re surrounded, you’re probably done for – because, unlike in Hollywood, they wouldn’t take turns attacking but come at you all at once.
4.) Dual-wielding was a thing
... at least in some cultures. I often heard people say that people using a weapon in each hand is an invention of fiction. And while my instructor confirmed that she knew of no European schools doing this—if they did, it’s not well-documented—she said it was a thing in other cultures. Example of this include the dual wakizashi in Japan or tomahawk and knife in North America. However, one of the biggest problems with the depiction of dual wielding in novels/movies/games are the “windmill”-type attacks where the fighter swings their weapons independently, hitting in succession rather than simultaneously. Normally you’d always try hitting with both weapons at once, as you’d otherwise lose your advantage.
5.) Longswords were amazing
Longswords might seem boring in comparison to other weapons, but they were incredibly effective, especially in combat situations outside the battlefield. The crossguard allowed for effective blocking of almost any kind of attack (well, maybe not an overhead strike of a Mordaxt, but still), the pommel was also used as a powerful “blunt” weapon of its own that could crack skulls. Though they were somewhat less effective against armored opponents, the long, two-handed hilt allowed for precise thrusts at uncovered body parts that made up for it.
6.)  “Zweihänder” were only used for very specific combat situations
Zweihänder—massive two-handed swords—were only used for specific purposes and usually not in one-on-one combat as is often seen in movies or games. One of these purposes was using their reach to break up enemy formations. In fact, one type of two-handed sword even owed its name to that purpose: Gassenhauer (German, Gasse = alley, Hauer = striker)—the fighters literally used it to strike “alleys” into an enemy formation with wide, powerful swings.
7.) It’s all about distance
While I was subconsciously aware of this, it might be helpful to remember that distance was an incredibly important element in fights. The moment your opponent got past your weapons ideal range, it was common to either switch to a different weapon or just drop your weapon and resort to punching/choking. A good example of this are spears or polearms—very powerful as long as you maintain a certain range between you and your opponent, but the moment they get too close, your weapon is practically useless. That’s also why combatants almost always brought a second weapon into battle to fall back one.
8.) Real fights rarely lasted over a minute
Another truism, but still useful to remember: real fights didn’t last long. Usually, they were over within less than a minute, sometimes only seconds – the moment your opponent landed a hit (or your weapon broke or you were disarmed), you were done for. This is especially true for combatants wearing no or only light armor.
9.) Stop the pirouettes
Unfortunately, the spinning around and pirouetting that makes many fight scenes so enjoyable to watch (or read) is completely asinine. Unless it's a showfight, fighters would never expose their backs to their opponent or even turn their weapon away from them.
10.)  It still looks amazing
If your concern is that making your fight scenes realistic will make them less aesthetic, don’t worry. Apart from the fact that the blocks, swings and thrusts still look impressive when executed correctly, I personally felt that my fights get a lot more gripping and visceral if I respect the rules. To a certain extent, unrealistic and flashy combat is plot armor. If your characters can spin and somersault to their heart’s content and no one ever shoves a spear into their backs as they would have in real life, who survives and who doesn’t noticeably becomes arbitrary. If, on the other hand, even one slip-up can result in a combatant’s death, the stakes become palpable.
That’s about it! I hope this post is as helpful to some of you as the lessons were to me. Again, if anything I wrote here is bollocks, it’s probably my fault and not Jeanne’s.  I'll try to post more stuff like this in the future.
Cheers,
Nicolas

Hey there Bedlam, I have one question: do you have any references of how Loki's hairstyle looks on Yonder Hill, I have zero imagination xD sorry! If you have, can you send me one? my chat is open if you happend to find a pic :D thanks and also a reference for Mistilteinn (i have a good day learning that it means Mistletoe and that it was some Legendary sword from a saga) :D
He shuffles through a couple of different hairstyles! I think I said at some point somewhere that I was looking at a lot of Lagertha's hairstyles from the History Channel's Vikings, as well as the other women from the show -- those kinds of faux-historical braids that you see in a lot of historical and high fantasy films/TV. (I want to say we first start seeing them show up in genre films/TV with LotR and the elves there, but they could have shown up earlier and I just don't remember.) (We do see them on characters in Asgard (and Thor has braids in his hair, I think from TDW onwards, so, like, I didn't do this completely out of nowhere. ) None of his hairstyles are based on anything specific (well, when his hair is just noted as plaited back it's in a single French braid), just sort of a vague compilation of various hairstyles.
(I'll put the next bit under a cut because it's a lot of reference images!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
which are not far off Natasha's braids in Black Widow, either. (I think at one point I was going to put in a crack about them both coming down to breakfast with the same hair, but I forgot to actually write it, lol.)
Tumblr media
as well as looking at some of the dwarves' simpler hairstyles from The Hobbit films
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mistilteinn in design is based on the scepter/spear Loki gets at the end of the Agent of Asgard comics, though it's not exactly the same -- I think of the blade as being more sharply curved, and it's for sure an actual serious killing weapon. It's probably also decorated with that kind of Norse-esque knotwork we see on Mjolnir and throughout Asgard. It's essentially the Asgardian equivalent of the scepter from The Avengers. (No gem, obviously.) It's forged of uru, like Mjolnir, and was originally commissioned by Odin from Eitri as a gift for Loki (to give him after Thor's coronation), and when the events of Thor happened it ended up just staying at the Nidavellir forge until Loki turned up there following Thanos's rampage on the Statesman, where Eitri gave it to him. (Unlike Thor in Infinity War, Loki doesn't restart the forge star.)
Mistilteinn's not directly based on anything from the comics or elsewhere in Marvel -- the name is a nod to a sword from the sagas as well as the story of the mythological Loki making a spear out of mistletoe to kill Baldur with, but it's not supposed to be filling any of the roles of the mythological Mistilteinn. I wanted it to have a mythological hook, though! And since Laevateinn is already in both the comics and the MCU as a sword, it couldn't be Laevateinn; I definitely wanted Loki to have a polearm in Yonder, because (a) cool, (b) it mirrors Loki's weapons of choice in Thor (Gungnir) and The Avengers (the scepter), (c) I was kind of tired of Loki just being knife guy because knives are cool and all but I am very contrary (and I've got a sword Loki in another story), and (d) since he's functioning as King of Asgard throughout this story, it's a more dramatic weapon that gives him more weight and majesty. I also really loved the mental image of his arrival in Wakanda (which Natasha mentions in Chapter 1) being very, very similar to his arrival in The Avengers, so Mistilteinn takes the place of the scepter for that.
In terms of real world weapons and how it looks and how Loki fights with it, I was also thinking about Japanese naginata.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was also some Thor Ragnarok concept art for possible Loki looks that had polearm weapons in them -- these are both by Aleksi Bricolet. (Also this one, but doesn't have a really good look at the polearm.)

Digimon x Genshin Impact Headcanons
Tumblr media
At first, I wanted to do a full drabble of this type of crossover/AU I came up with, but I honestly don’t know where I’d go with such a piece. SO, instead I have some headcanons about what the Digimon Adventure gang would do were they to be thrown into the world of Genshin Impact. I will possibly become even more of a simp after this, but let’s pray I don’t collapse on the spot.
@digiweek
Tai would wield a Pyro Vision. I'm not sure if he'd use a Sword or a Claymore (Tai with a Claymore is a terrifying thought honestly), but I selfishly wanna give him a Sword. He would probably hail from Mondstadt since freedom is his jam and I can see him standing on one of those windmills with the wind blowing his hair around. Probably walks out of the city and is immediately attacked by monsters. Every. Single. Time. He’s also part of the Knights of Favonius but goes on adventures a lot because... Tai.
I know technically Gabumon uses fire and not ice, but Matt just fits Cryo so well. Mr. Knife of Ramen would use a Sword because they don't really have daggers in Genshin. While he's a lot like Diluc, I feel like he would come from Snezhnaya. This is making him sound more like Kiriha from Xros Wars, but I cannot ignore the drama of Matt being in the Fatui. He and Tai stare at each other across open fields and it's really dramatic.
Sora would also be Pyro. She would have some healing abilities and probably be a Catalyst so she can be more flexible in a fight. I can see her coming from Liyue but knowing a lot about other nations to be more welcoming when helping her mother run an inn there. (I'm cheating a little, I know.) She met the misfortune of being around when Tai and Matt ran into each other there.
Izzy is an Electro GOD. No, but really, he'd also be a Catalyst and just be casually shooting hilichurls from hidden places like a sniper. (I know that sounds like Bow, but HEAR ME OUT—) I can see him hailing from Inazuma and doing all sorts of experiments with Electro and other elements. He has probably visited Mondstadt a lot because he's a worldly boy, and he loves seeing alchemy things that happen around Teyvat. Tai nearly kidnapped him once (well, not really, but it might as well have been…).
Mimi is probably a Dendro Polearm, and I say this because I can see her moving very similarly to Xiangling. Dainty but tough. She also comes from Mondstadt and I can see her either being part of the Cathedral or just wondering around being Mimi. Most likely a nobleman's daughter who runs around Mondstadt helping people because I believe in charitable Mimi.
Joe is a Hydro Bow user, not because of his resemblance to Uryu from Bleach, but because—actually, no, it's because he looks like another megane anime character. But even a panicky Joe probably shoots a bow better than me, so… He comes from Liyue and is ALWAYS in tea shops trying to calm down, so if the whole Rex Lapis thing happened while he was around, you can bet he's running around ringing alarm bells. Poor guy. He just wanted to research all the ruins a bit, is that so bad?
T.K. is an Anemo user, and he's most likely from Snezhnaya as well. However, I can see him having moved to Mondstadt because the Fatui does not seem like his jam, so there's some drama there for you. Because it's kind of funny, he could possibly be a Claymore user, so that would be extra amusing to see. He probably joined the Knights of Favonius because he believed more in their cause than in the Fatui's. (And maybe to spite Matt a little bit.)
Kari is harder, so I'm not sure if she would actually wield a Vision. Of all of them, Anemo speaks to me most, so perhaps that? And of the weapon classes, I can see her as a Catalyst or Polearm most of all. Again, she's harder to pinpoint considering her Digimon is a cat-angel. In any case, she's from Mondstadt like her brother, and she probably helps out at the Cathedral or around town like the good egg she is. She goes on adventures with Tai to keep him safe more than anything (because she probably has some healing abilities.)

Tumblr media
woah you guys will never guess who i just pulled
just kidding haha i made a genshin verse for my main sona so enjoy some fake wish art, a higher quality version of his image plus information on him is below!
Tumblr media
ALVIN :: HYDRO POLEARM :: 4 STAR
ELEMENTAL SKILL :: SILT BED Morphs his polearm into a Hydro shovel. He digs into the ground, then throws mud up at enemies in front of him to deal Hydro DMG and stun the enemies for a few seconds.
ELEMENTAL BURST :: INVENTORY SCREEN Uses his Hydro magic to summon 3 rows and 5 columns of Hydro with different items in every slot. He picks out an item, then tosses it on the ground. He can throw 5 different items that have different effects.
If an hourglass was tossed; enemies become slowed down for 5 seconds. If a clock was tossed; freezes enemies for 5 seconds. If a knife was tossed; summons Hydro swords that strike all enemies in a small AoE around the sword. If a cup was tossed; spills out Hydro contents of the cup to afflict all enemies in a medium AoE with the Wet status. If a paper was tossed; slides Hydro sheets of paper under enemies that stagger large enemies and throw small enemies backwards, afflicting them with the Wet status.
PASSIVE TALENT :: WORLD BREAKING When pressing the Sprint button, allows him to teleport a short distance in front of him. When holding Sprint, he disappears and becomes a small cloud of blue sparkles. This skill can be activated in mid air by holding the sprint button, allowing him to travel in a straight line. He cannot travel over water.
Some design notes and extra shit:
- his earring holds his vision! the vision is a bit heavy, so that's why his ear is always drooping is because it's attached to the earring
- the lines along his body and cross his left eye are a homage to the stripe on his shirt in his official reference
- he has a ring on his left thumb! for most homosexuals, wearing a ring on the left thumb indicates that you're in a relationship while wearing one on the right indicates that you're single or in an open relationship if you also have a left ring. since he has a left thumb ring, that shows that he's dating someone, because even in his genshin universe he's still dating bell!
- the badge on his shirt is indication of a traveling clan that he's part of in the genshin verse. they come from all over and have different colours based on their origins. alvin in this universe hails from mondstadt, so his butterfly is inspired by the scarce swallowtail, which is a butterfly typically found in germany and the uk!
- rain swords inspired by xingqiu's raincutter swords!! i used them as a base
- his spear that he's wielding that's turning into the shovel is the royal spear! it works best with him because he gets increased crit damage as he levels up, and the spear gives more crit rate when damaging enemies.
- outfit took many inspirations from albedo and sucrose!
- the bell on his neck is a reference to his boyfriend, bell. it was a gift and he thinks of his boyfriend when it jingles
- no the black and white on his skin is not markings, it's actually part of his skin, i'll focus on a character story for that later
- bandages!! he has quite a few because of adventurering so much, and his ear is actually broken which is why it's bandaged in the places it bends. no it wasn't caused by the vision he's just kind of stupid
- there’s two different knives in his inventory!
- his cap is inspired by graduation caps!! he got it upon joining the traveling butterfly clan in mondstadt!
- important to point out; he has a tummy window, deal with it. bell made him wear it as a dare but now he's gotten so used to it he just gave up trying to get new clothes, also it reminds him of bell so he doesn't want to.
- the pearls all along his clothes aren't actually pearls, they're made from the snow on dragonspine that alvin turned into ice using his vision, he just likes collecting them
- he has star motifs in his clothes similar to dainsleif, kaeya, and albedo. hmmmm wonder what that's about?
- you probably can't see it too well, but his eyes are special! he has light orbs in the middle of his pupils, and a wavy pattern in the irises.

Q&A: Hatchets and Knives
Are axes and hatchets useful for anything? It seems like knives are just better by any measure but I would like one of my characters to use a hatchet/small axe instead
Hatchets are great for clearing brush, and making camp. They’re useful in situations where you need to rapidly sever a line under tension. Switch between a blade and a hammer.
Knives give you more fine control, hatchets give you more force on point of impact. This doesn’t you can’t whittle with a hatchet if you want, people do, but it’s not going to be as easy.
So, why use a hatchet? Because it’s the right tool for the job.
I know we sometimes stress that weapons are tools. This is, usually, a little semantic, when we’re talking about a rifle as a tool, it’s because this is a piece of equipment designed to do a specific job. In this case, that, “tool” distinction is really important because, both knives and hatchets are non-combat tools first, which have combat applications.
“Why would your character use a hatchet?” Because they carry one for utility, and are in a situation where it is available and they need a weapon.
Both the knife and the hatchet occupy a strange space, they’re not improvised weapons, but they are still, primarily, utility tools. I don’t carry a knife to have a weapon, I carry one because sometimes I need a knife.
The knife is a more versatile tool. It’s an eating utensil, medical tool, has precision cutting applications. You can do a lot with a decent knife. In that regard, hatchets are more limited.
Given options, a character in the wilderness would probably carry both in addition to actual weapons. In a modern setting that might a handgun, and a rifle or shotgun. In a fantasy setting, you’re probably looking at a sword or larger axe as a sidearm, and a specialized weapon like the bow, or a primary polearm of some sort.
If a character already has a combat axe, they might not carry a hatchet. They don’t need another axe that will do most of the same things. Similarly, if they carry throwing axes, a separate hatchet will be redundant.
If you’re running with the idea of some kind ranger type character, the axe is a natural fit. It’s a good weapon, because it does double as a tool that will be vital in their environment. They’ll probably also have a knife, because it’s useful.
If you want them using a hand axe or hatchet as their primary weapon, that’s going to be a situation where, “this is what I could get,” probably not, “this is my weapon of choice.”
Also worth remembering, the knife is an excellent ambush weapon. It’s very easy to conceal. If you just need to stab someone without warning and vanish, you want a knife. If you’re getting into an actual fight, the knife will rapidly lose out to anything with a longer reach.

Rank each Go Home Club Overdose ability?
Ooooh, that's a fun question aight! I assume you mean their weapons as well as their ultimate catharsis overdose things? Lessee… Better put this under the cut, this is gonna get long~
Eiji: Has the same whip-cane thing as Stork, so that’s questionable enough as is. His ult is neither impressive nor bad, though his moveset is pretty useful if you can stomach having him around. Gets style points for the Glasgow grin, but deducted again for the Venom tongue. 5/10.
Naruko: Tbh, not sure what’s going on here. Sure, the Ostinato guys got speaker turrets too, but Naruko randomly has those and I feel like they missed an opportunity to give her something cooler. That said, I like watching her blank 🙂 face when she begins her ult, and also the tummy-tackle move. 6/10.
Kotaro: Ah, good ol' fisticuffs. Ngl, at first I thought he had like machine gun arms, but nope, they're gauntlets. I like pairing him with Kotono and watch 'em juggle enemies. His ult… I don't even remember what it's like. Uh-oh. Not a good sign. He's aesthetically just eh, but at least he's unique. 6.5/10.
Ayana: Taser shield’s a creative choice, I’ll give her that. Girl really said “what if Captain America, but make it electro?”. Granted the animation’s a bit funny for when she just shoves it in your face, but her ult is a ground pound and that’s neat. Overall not bad, I just think it coulda been even better somehow. 7/10.
Kotono: Graceful lady archer with healing? Gotta admit, that didn't appeal to me at first, it felt kinda clichéd and boring. But once you discover her full damage potential, hoo boy~ Fitting for her character arc, I suppose, heh. Also, her ult is awesome, with the crucified hero villain shot and all. 7.5/10.
Kensuke: His Musician form had a weird claymore, but it looks cleaner, if a bit plainer, once he's recruited. I love when he goes aerial beyblade on enemies, and when he hums his theme song during his ult? Perfection. Also has an interesting playstyle since he’s so reliant on counter-attacks. 8/10.
Suzuna: Not really sure why she has a polearm, but maybe it’s the closest they could get to a broom regarding her witchy theme? Anyway it’s fun watching her jab someone repeatedly in her first move, just poke poke poke poke away~ Her ult is where it gets really interesting, maybe a little edgy but c'mon, that's so cool! 8/10.
Mifue: Hehe croquet mallet go bonk~ The sheer cartoonishness of it goes beyond silly and right back to hilariously amazing, especially when she fires up her ult. Super fun, plus she’s also a great enabler to set up for maximum damage. 9/10.
Protagonist: Ah, yeah, the dual-wield pistols. Such a classic choice. Versatile skillset, if slightly "jack of all trades, master of none", but that's exactly what makes 'em useful. Ult animation is pretty cool, and I still catch myself saying "kore wa... OWARI DA!!" sometimes when playing other games. 9/10.
Izuru: How did he manage to be that edgy without being cheesy? Look at his sword, his half-mask, all his acrobatic flips and extra gestures! But he owns it, somehow; his ult is about the only place where it gets a bit narmy with the whooshing stabby bit but it's oddly charming. Also, extremely useful to bring around. 10/10.
Shogo: Look. Look, Imma hand it to you straight, I'm biased here. Shogo is my absolute fave of the entire cast. That said, what's not to love about his revolver? That sweet, sweet damage output? The ultra cool ult animation?? When the game said he synergises well with the MC, they ain't lyin', mate, there’s a solid lead and co-lead vibe going on, during combat and outside. 11/10.
...so yeah, I did say it’s gonna get long. Thanks for asking! And congratulations for surviving the text wall~
My standard team, for the record, is MC (mine’s named Chiaki), Shogo, Izuru, and one of Mifue/Kensuke/Kotono depending on situation; NG+, I like to take Shadow Knife around as the fourth squadmate. Most days, Chiaki’s a support/enabler, Shogo picks up his combos as burst DPS, and Izuru is my main carry DPS.

13 for the dnd ask!
13. Do you have a d&d character?
I have… so many… ok let’s see the ones I’m playing atm.
Tuesday’s I’m playing a kobold LG devotion paladin named Elizabeth or just Liz. She’s got a 20 dex and a negative to wisdom and will try to be ur friend.
Occasional Wednesday game. Fennec Faux. Half elf gloomstalker ranger. Honestly I need to develop his character more?
Thursday. Shadow monk shader-Kai elf named Non. Neutral. We just finished hoard of the dragon queen and started rise of Tiamat. She’s kinda just along for the ride to maybe witness the apocalypse or whatever other death and disaster is bound to happen.
Saturday Hell campaign. Bc we’re literally in hell rn. Playing Jacqueline. LN Human 1 lv fighter 11 cleric. Switched from grave domain follower of the raven queen to arcana domain bc I was brainwashed by a dragon… fun build bc I have polearm master, sentinel, and warcaster. Pairs well w booming blade and spirit guardians.
Saturday evil campaign. These two rotate every other Saturday. Basically we’re evil in this one. Valdr Cain. LE dhampir hexblade warlock/ shadow sorcerer mc. His patron is Fenrir who’s basically trapped in the Shadowfell atm.
Sunday. Playing Jim the light cleric in curse of strahd campaign. He’s doing his best…
Previously was playing Caslon the high elf divination wizard on tues. she’s like an ex librarian. that campaign is kinda on pause until we can reschedule it.
and Nic Carrol the tabaxi rogue bard (swashbuckler and college of swords) who survived all of CoS and now I can’t play them bc we restarted with HotDQ on thurs. I miss knife cat. Also they’re dating/engaged/married to Ezmerelda so  like if I ever get to play them again just be like *pulls out wallet* look at these pics of my wife and son! Bc im adopting the kenku cleric we found.
And yeah there’s more but those r the ones I usually play outside of oneshots

something something how many weapons my ocs have on them at any given point lets goooooooooooooo
first up: academy crew!! i gotta get an Actual Name for this i s2g
jam: like. 2. weak. he always has his sword cane, which is more a mobility aid than a sword, but it makes him feel safer when the paranoia gets Rough. he also has a knife. for practical things.
rowan: depends on the day. id say an average of like 5?? he likes knives and looking at knives and also he keeps losing them. adhd king. chances are he has like 5-6 on him but only knows where like, 2 of them are.
glitch: 2. shes chill. she mostly has them for practical things, but she has a backup in case she loses one.
synth: 10. the one friend that just. always has a pocket knife/multitool. probably helped a lot of this friend group *get* their knives. might be a little obsessed with them. she absolutely has a collection at home.
oz: collapsible staff and a pocket knife. simple. chill. i love him.
lucien: two knives and a set of brass knuckles. yknow, for fun!!
dot: she likes Big Weapons but. she isnt rlly allowed to carry those around. she definitely has like, a larger knife just in her bag, but she has a few smaller weapons on her person.
next group go!! its uh. Haunted City Bois. (i dont have much abt this setting but uh. I Care These Idiots) its legal to have weapons just. out in the open on your person cuz uh. Citys Haunted.
akia: three!! he always has his sword (its a sick fuckin sword, ok) but he also has a backup knife in case his sword gets knocked away, and a second backup knife in case the first backup knife gets lost somehow. it seems like he should have more but. hes got History and does not like carrying a lot or even having a lot of weapons. ideally he'd just have his sword, but uh. he doesnt feel safe enough for that!!
kaeto: 10. they often supply akia with replacement weapons. they will get knives specifically for him but not give them to him until he needs a new one cuz they know how he is. also they just like knives. their main weapon is a glaive. polearms my beloved <3
quartz: she does not need a knife. she does not need a weapon. dont ask why. but, just in case, she has a fancy crystal dagger that looks far more ornamental than it does practical. Dont Worry About It :)
citrine: shes baby. but uh. baseball bat. its made of stone. she also has a multitool cuz theyre handy!!
lysithea: thea is the embodiment of that one character that just keeps pulling out weapons. she never has one visibly on her, which is odd in this city!! but mark my words she has so goddamn many. she keeps blades up her sleeves. she probably has a gun. she'll show up in a big poofy ball gown and pull smth ridiculous out of it. amazing.
next is uh.... boat crew!! same world, they just live on the gigantic goddamn lake that both of these settings are placed near.
akiva: a crossbow and like 5 knives. the crossbow can be modified into a harpoon type thing so he can fish with it. most of his knives are for practical things, like prepping his catches for cooking. he also doesnt rlly need a weapon, but theyre nice to have!!
tobias: he... doesnt like most weapons. he has like, a pocket knife??? but his equivalent of a weapon is a sort of sketchbook. he's a rune mage, so having all of that ready to go is incredibly handy for many reasons. he can do almost anything with them!! hes v crafty.
alia: also doesnt have any weapons. probably uses their voice as a weapon. bastard. theyre much too flighty for a proper fight anyway, its like trying to fight a breeze. they just pass you by :)
aaaaand im done for now. if u interact with this post i am cherishing u forever. i hold u gently like hamburger.

Other than daggers and knives, what other weapons is Valeera proficient with?
UNSOLICITED ASKS↳ @acherys
As a blood elf and a rogue, Valeera is more agile than she is strong, and in order to capitalize on her maneuverability, she favours weapons that are smaller, lighter, and don’t require too much force to injure someone. So sharp daggers and knives, but also one-handed swords. Her primary daggers are Orcish and she describes them as being as long as swords, and she initially dual-wielded one-handed swords during her training as a gladiator, so I see her as being as proficient with swords as well. She would probably throw shuriken well enough, too, and could hurl a throwing axe though it wouldn’t be her first choice.
While I think glaives would suit Valeera’s fighting style as well, I don’t see her as being particularly interested in practicing with weapons other than the ones she uses already. She’s too prideful and competitive to try something she isn’t quickly skilled at, and her current weapons are versatile enough that she doesn’t perceive a need to expand her repertoire. She can throw daggers and knives with remarkable accuracy from a distance, and can obviously fight very well in close combat.
Because her fighting style is mobile, I think she would struggle with bulkier weapons like two-handed swords, maces, axes, polearms, spears, war hammers, etc., which take longer to swing and require more distance and force to be effective. I can see her as being decent enough with a bow to get by if she had to, but she is certainly nowhere near as skilled with one as characters known for archery, like Alleria and Sylvanas. It’s not something she would work hard to be any better at, either —— having to carry a bow and quiver would frustrate her, especially when she could just throw a knife and accomplish the same thing. Guns and crossbows she perceives to be the domain of those too unskilled to use anything else.
There’s also evidence that Valeera is capable of using magic as a weapon (at least siphoning magic in order to kill someone), but I’m not convinced that that’s realistic. Although one of her ancestors was on the Council of Tirisfal when Aegwynn became the guardian, and although Valeera professes to having a childhood interest in becoming Tirisfalen herself, she is far too young when she leaves Quel’Thalas to have been taught any offensive uses for magic, and I think it’s highly unlikely that she had contact with anyone who could have taught her. By the time she does have the opportunity to learn, she’s learned her lesson about arcane and would rather not have anything to do with it.

Medieval Polearms: Halberds
I would like to explore the use of halberds in the medieval period and how I could implement it into my project. My project is so far based in the dark ages with right in the middle of the Black Death. This event took place in 1347 and ended around 1351.  Luckily the halberd was invented in the 14th century (its unclear when exactly it was made) so that means it would have existed in that time so I can use it guilt free.
Tumblr media
The key components of the halberd were the long wooden pole, the spear head on the head, the battle axe head on one side and the spike on the other. This was a cheap and highly versatile group fighting weapon able to apprehend a whole manner of enemies. The spear was the primary use of the weapon, used mainly for stabbing moves against oncoming infantry. The axe however was very important. Because its on the end of the 5-6 foot long pole, when swung at considerable speed the axe blade could slice through metal and therefore penetrate enemies armour entirely. This quality made the halberd an incredibly deadly weapon for the opposition to find. Lastly, the spike on the back side of the axe blade. This was used to stab and drag mounted combatants straight off of their horses. This created a huge window for that soldier to be killed and the threat is removed almost instantaneously. A master of the halberd on the battle field is a very worthy threat.
Tumblr media
The disadvantage of this weapon is that it is a long range weapon so anyone that managed to surpass the spear blade put the wielder in sudden danger. They would have to quickly drop the halberd and take out their secondary side weapon which tended to be a small sword or knife. However halberdiers fought in groups so if anyone got that close another halberdier would come in and take him out before anyone suffered any injury.
Tumblr media
This being a highly versatile weapon able to effectively fight against multiple types of opponents while also being a long range attacker makes it quite an iconic and deadly weapon. I think it would be fitting to give this to my Plague god character as their weapon of choice as diseases can also attack all kinds of people and with the right traits (air born etc.) can attack effectively from a distance.
