Her interview was going well chase was well respected and she respected him the way he held himself in the midst though she was extremely nervous.

"Thank you for your time mr crawford, and I can't believe you're with elena shes been a good friend to me for so long" she smiled shaking his hand he stood up "thank you for coming i appreciate the work you do having someone like you on this team would be a delight, elena is a good women any friend of hers is a friend of mine" he smiled, he was gorgeous she thanked him once more and she opened that big door that was extremely heavy might I add, she looked out into the office waiting room stood sat sebastian he immediately stood up to see her walking up to her quickly "so?" He rubbed his hands together waiting for the news

"I'm pretty sure I got it" She said squealing he laughed hugging her tightly "oh bug I knew you could do it I just knew it!" His hands on her biceps she was excited her life was getting back on track all because of seb, "it's like faith brought me here first elena than chase has a deal with a guy at BlackRock YOU I mean the pieces are falling together" She said with a huge smile on her face, her smile fell thinking of the shitty news shes going to tell sebastian "hey can we talk for a minute?" He nodded

"Henry doesn't like us being friendly" she air quoted the friendly bit, sebastian nodded "I don't wanna stay away from you - you mean too much to me I just need there to be boundaries about us as in-" she took a deep breath "I'm living with Henry now" sebastian was shocked "you're living with him after he told you?" Sebastian said she was more confused than ever

"About the kid?" He said slowly, he knew Henry never told her or the rest of them for that matter. they kept a big secret from her he's not gonna let that slide anymore sebastian was tired of keeping secrets even if it wasn't his secret to keep..

"Seb what are you saying right now?" She felt her heart getting quicker "it's none of my business-" sebastian said whilst being cut off by a hand tugging on his shirt "you're the only person I trust right now don't make me over think it"

"Morena's pregnant, and everyone's sure it's Henry's he just wont admit to it" he felt like a snake, betraying his best friend- but y/n was his best friend too

"I'm gonna KILL HIM" her adrenaline coursing through her veins she felt angry

"No it wasn't my place to say anything we've known about it for months it was between the four of us" what he said made her angrier she stormed out of the lobby hitting the streets- she looked around for a cab near by sebastian ran after her "doll what are you doing"

"What does it look like I'm doing" she pushed the hair out of her mouth quickly "he's getting a piece of me" she hailed the cab and sebastian jumped in her hands shook, he wanted to ruin it for Henry because well Henry didn't deserve her and I don't deserve her neither - however at least I didn't keep something like this from her.

he was in love with her he wanted to marry her. All along hes lied to her countless of times that he wasn't interested he didn't want her when he was lying the whole time.

"doll slow down" his hand crept up on her thigh "how could you all LIE TO ME" she shouted being angry warm fuzzy feeling in her stomach alerted her what was making her feel like that? His hand on her skin the small light touches of his finger tips sweeping across her thigh.

"it wasn't our place to say anything." He kept his word, a phone call from sebastian's phone he looked at it, it was Henry. "Is that him?" She asked and he swallowed "answer it on speaker" "Hey" he answered holding the phone in the palm of his hand so she could hear the speaker turn on

"seb I called your office they said you skipped work today? For a special occasion?" her heart shuttered knowing he skipped coming in to be with her, he always did stuff like that she just thought he's being my friend I'm always just going to be his friend she looked at him with a bit of dreamy eyes and slowly she stopped herself coming back to reality that Henry was going to be a father.

"Yeah everything went great" he smiled to himself and she saw his smile "listen Henry where are you?" He asked

"Well I was calling you for a drink me and the guys are at that bar" he said with a laugh

"Oh okay I'll meet you there" he hung up "y/n let's not do this in public it's bad press" he said trying to lighten the mood and she didnt take note to it, "sebastian this isn't funny I'm being lied to for 8 fucking months without a soul telling me otherwise that Henry's going to be a father"

"Hey can you make a right here" sebastian said while she was talking

"I can't fucking believe it" she crossed her arms over her chest spreading her legs like a little kid would when they would have a tantrum, then finally arrived to "Jameson's room" a stuffy bar with a pool table

"Seb glad you cou-" Anthony said as he saw who walked in behind him, y/n.

"Hey baby what are you doing here" Henry smiled ready to grab her hand and kiss her cheek lovingly when he saw her face

"Can I speak to you outside?" She tried to make it sound like she wasn't so angry but it came out worse

"Darling what's wrong?" He got up from the stool slowly about to grab her hand she pulled away "woah alright what the hell?" He was offended "outside now" "no whatever you want to say you can say it here" "I don't think that's a good idea" sebastian interjected "SEB" she said he held his hands up in defense taking a step back

"Okay let's talk right here! you got Morena pregnant and didn't even THINK to tell me you're going to be a father?" she felt like the whole room went quiet Chris turned pale as did Anthony their blood ran cold.

"How did you find out" Henry said he was shaking he was scared, God she's never seen him like that. He knew in his heart this is going to set her off it's over.

"It doesn't matter, but what does matter is I've poured my heart out my soul my bank account to all of you, and you kept this secret from me letting me start to date you when you had you're own SHIT to deal with, I was going through a hard enough time getting over sebastian and his fucking marriage you swept me off my feet making me feel whole again" she felt a tear form she quickly stopped herself

"I called Morena she told me herself she was the women you were having sex with at the hotel am I right or wrong?" She lied she never called Morena she just wants to know if the pieces match up. Henry cleared his throat "yeah" "you know Henry you said to me not so long ago We need you happy we need you healthy you are only hurting yourself, but in the long run you've been hurting me this entire time" she shallowed back her tears

"I trusted you, I trusted Chris, I trusted Anthony- you know I thought for once things were different this time and you would stop lying to me stop keeping secrets from me but no, it's still happening."

with that she opened the bar door leaving out of their lives "doll" sebastian ran after her, Henry now suspicious he runs right after him.

"Sebastian I can't look at you" she was already crying he was steps away from her she was looking at the sky her back was turned, he knew she was happy today however he couldn't let Henry have her because of what he did.

"I said I was happy for you when you chose Henry- for 10 minutes, I took a girl up to my room I pulled her clothes off and I kissed her I thought maybe she would fill the void like I always do." Seb yelled out from afar

"And I knew she wasn't you, nobody was you, that night we sat on the hood of my car, we talked about how lifes been treating us since the move, and I couldn't get you out of my head when i went home I should've seen it all before but it was my fault" she turned to look at him

"I almost got married to a women I hate because i thought i was in love with her because she filled the void for the first time i was amazed by infatuation" Henry's heart was beating so loud in his ears he felt a sudden pressure in his head hearing these words come out of his friends mouth.

"I lied, we all did, because we thought he was gonna tell you we begged him for months to say anything. He never said a word that isn't on me or Chris or Anthony it's on Henry"

"do not turn your back on us" she felt tears form in her eyes once again, she quickly tried to stop herself

"I trusted you God I trusted all of you! I thought we were done with secrets when we caught her cheating on you, where were you when I needed you when I was in my darkest moment" she argued she pushed his chest over and over he took it he deserved it "he's here now please don't turn your back on me" he whispered so softly and in his gentlesy voice she finally broke down in his arms they got closer to the ground every couple seconds until they were both hugging sitting on the side of the pavement cars passing along not knowing what was unfolding on the streets, mindless.

"As soon as he walked in with her I knew, just something in my gut said sebastian told her everything" Henry sipped out of his beer, playing with the small coaster underneath "his finally got her, by default." He sipped his beer and with a disgusted look on his face he grabbed his jacket and left

her head in his chest, his hand cradling the back of her head his lips pressed against the top, "I'm still mad at you" she said tears streaming down her face "I know it's okay, I'm not looking for forgiveness I'm looking to be apart of your life again maybe it wi take you years to forgive me and I'm just gonna have to wait for you like you've waited for me." he kissed her hair and they untangled themselves from each other "I'm gonna get us a cab sleep over tomorrow we'll search for an apartment" he lend her a hand to stand up and she took it "you know I'm tired of crying over you" she tried to lighten her mood, he gave a sad smile and hugged her side "I'm sorry for all the tears doll" he wiped them for her they grabbed a cab and headed off to his apartment,

She was in his room, he opened his draws and looked for clothes for her just until tomorrow he side eyed her every move she looked around his room, her fingers caressing his picture frames "when was this" she asked he looked at her, it was a photo of all of them in front the fireplace at Anthony's house, her head laid on sebastian's shoulder and the other three boys laughing at something, she' never saw this photo until today.

"remember we all went to that football game and it started to pour Anthony's house was the closest to the school we got soaked and spent the night at his place" he said packing a shirt for her and sweatpants which were incredibly loose

"Oh yeah I forgot about that night, Anthony's mom took that picture, i miss her" she remembered and smiled to herself she got closer to sebastian as he handed her the clothes

"thanks for letting me crash here, I'll be out of your hair" she said about to walk out the room her back turned to open the door "what if you don't crash here" he shut one eye with his face scrunched up

"Sebastian I cant-" his face relaxed he shushed her "let me finish, pay rent to me same rent you paid in your shit apartment you have your own room you can share an office with me kitchen bathroom oh the backyard you lost your virginity in" he smiled at the last part and she came closer to him so she could hit him in the shoulder which made her laugh slightly his eyes were glued to her smile

"Hows it sound?" He desperately awaited her reply

"I don't know.." she didn't want to live with anyone she wanted to be alone but maybe it's better to live with sebastian? Living with Henry I was living with a boyfriend if I live with seb... it's my best friend hes like my roommate..

"You don't have to make the decision now of course" he reassured her, "give me some time I'll think about it".

It's been a few days her crashing with sebastian she hasn't spoken to chris anthony or henry but at least she saw Henry when she picked up all of her stuff he looked drained, however he was happy and she knew he was happy- "y/n can I talk to you" morena said as she sat in the frame of the door sebastian looked at her and she looked at sebastian

"okay?" She said and a sudden arm pulled her back a little "be careful don't anger the pregnant women" he whispered, she walked away with Morena

"Listen I know things are bad between you and Henry but he loves you he always has don't cut him out of your life for a lie just because he didnt want you to look at him differently, come to Christmas dinner everyone is coming bring sebastian make amends" she was being nice and sweet how could she even argue "Morena I don't know it's strange now i can't come to terms with being friends with Henry after all that..." she said Morena nodded "okay there's a seat open for you, come if you'd like" she said going to Henry in the kitchen she walked back into the bed room with seb "what was that?" Sebastian whispered "she invited me to Christmas dinner" she whispered back

"Are you going?" He whispered taping a box shut

"No" he nodded taking the last box out to the car, she came in the kitchen morena was talking to Henry, Henry stopped looking in her direction looking right at y/n and she turned as well

"Uh well that's all of it...I'll see you sometime h." she said

"y/n" she heard his voice for the first time in days, her eyes looked directly at him "are you...are you happy?" His voice seemed so groggy, "I am, I've always been" she walked out of the door she saw a big van sebastian leaning on the car a beanie covering his head his hands in gloves the snow flurries falling on his jacket "come on doll your chariot awaits" he laughed loudly she closed the door behind her, a new chapter it was starting..slowly

"Do you really want to do this right now?" She looked at sebastian dead in the eyes and he looked right back at her "is this a challenge y/n are you challenging me????" Sebastian said getting up off the paint splattered floor his hair had bits of dried paint his hands covered in it her shirt was covered in paint as well as her hands, whilst music played loudly they fought with white and grey paint he wiped it on her face which started the whole fiasco, and here we are two idiots who are desperately in love with each other covered in paint not thinking about what the future might hold or what about tomorrow, it's today and right now.

She tripped slightly over a paint brush on the floor he tried to grab her before she fell and they both fell side by side, they looked at the ceiling she got on top of him her legs are either side of him "I'm tired can we take a break?" Sebastian said laying on his back looking up at her

"Where do you expect me to sleep?" She said putting a little wet paint on his nose, she stood up and she gave him a hand up

"In my room duh?" He said she pushed his shoulder and he pushed hers, they finished up with the room and put all the furniture back and new furniture as well, that was hell to build she thought.

There was a knock at door, "hey doll can you get the door for me" sebastian said whilst washing his hands, she nodding going to the door.

"Y/n" she said with a small laugh she was clearly annoyed that I had answered the door, "where's sebastian"

"None of your God damn business go home." as y/n was about to shut the door on her face she stuck her foot to block it from opening hitting y/n in the face with the door a freak accident

"What's going" sebastian said as he panicked from the loud noise of y/n's face hitting into the door as Alex was now in their home.

While I love Grant Gustin to pieces, I'm not looking forward to watching an hour long comic con involving him and Kevin praising WestAllen. Though I can't help but be curious about his forced answered and body language. If it's not too much trouble, could you pinpoint some of those moments in the video? I know it's on YouTube so I'd have no problem finding it. I'd just rather not watch the whole thing. Thank you in advance!

Here’s what I can sum up from the video.

VIP is $311. x Grant looks and acts tired from shooting Season 4 overall. David Rappaport knew him from 90210 and casthim in the role. David is also responsible for casting Candice too.Andrea was there. Right behind him at his signing booth.

Kevin moderated the interview, he compares Grant’s work ethic to Matt Damon’s. Grantkeeps smiling and waving at his fans, he’s genuine even though he looks tired.Fame and wealth make Grant nervous, that’s why he doesn’t do many cons.Kevin keeps praising Season 4 over and over but he doesn’t mean it in histone. Grant is just nodding along. Praising the show along with him. Especially because they know what it’s leading up to. These questions are pre-screened, nothing is said on the air that Grant is not prepared to answer.On how he was cast: he tested the same time as Carlos. He claims theonly person he did a chemistry read was with Candice. I notice how he spokethere, he was lying because we would have seen it by now in some way, leaked or on a DVD. He neglected to bring up his screen test with EBR,which was on Season 1 DVD, his “chemistry test” with Candice was not, “so much chemistry.” Why can’t we see it then?12:46 is where the WA talk begins. The “drama for the sake of drama comment.” Even with the small cheering Grant’s face saysit all…his body scrunches up, his shoulders are held back and tight,his face is holding something that looks like a forced smile but he isn’t smiling,he’s acting, trying to sell WA. Kevin in spite of having the question already memorized looks down.

Kevin ignores the that fact of WA are step-siblings and insteadcalls them “childhood besties” no mention of incest at all going right into “nowyou guys are married.” Grant during all of this was holding a fist and fidgeting a lot,why he is so uncomfortable? If he has chemistry with CP, why does he giveoff so much discomfort whenever WA is brought up? Grant also says “if we canstay on the air long enough” and “I hope everyone saw the finale” which indicates he isn’tconfident in the show anymore. He doesn’t know what will happen. He triesto sell us WA but he can’t help being honest in the same answer, he can’tlie but he can’t piss off his bosses. When Grant mentions “I guess we’llsee…a kid? In the future.” A small crowd cheers but when the camera pansto the crowd nobody is smiling. 

I’ve counted, maybe 4-5 WAs in a sea of 8,000, andeveryone is just as serious as Grant. These are not WA stans, they are superGG fans. Nobody cares about WA.

14:16 is where it ends. Grant is relievedthe discussion is over. His curt laugh at the end points that out.6-23 was the date of the panel, Grant hasn’t gotten the script yet, but will receive it on that weekend. When this is posted Grant will have already gotten the script.On Monday the 25th was the meeting with HELLbing.Season 1 Grant was reading The New 52 to learn about BA and TF. Season 2he stopped doing that so he can focus more on the acting. He also said “as someone growingup with superheroes you don’t want to get sick of it.” Grant’s energy really picked up when Kevin started talking about the firstepisode he directed. You can tell Grant loves working with him. Kevin feelsthe same way. When they are just talking Flash, it looks natural, less forced,less promo salesman, it looks like two friends talking as opposed to Viris or WA awkwardness. 

22.56 is where Kevin brings up “in every episode there is always a WA peptalk scene” it seemed they just glazed over it and Grant just nods “yup” in a repeated manner agreeing that it’s monotonous to do. 

Grant praises Jesse L Martin, being a fan of his because he bonded with himfirst and he was in Rent. Tom Canavagh is brought up and Grant says he ishis favorite actor to work with. Grant talked about Tom and Grant, the moviewas based on their real on set unfunny gags, Tom wrote and directed the shortmovie. After wrapping up Season 3 Grant had plans to do a movie and Tom filmedthe short movie in 2 days. The movie Grant was supposed be a part of “fell through”it could be referring to a recast because he wasn’t available at the time.Grant says he likes Time Travel and fans will ask him questions but he alwayssays he is confused. If the writers knew what they were writing about, I’msure Grant would have a clearer answer for the fans. He clearly likes it whenBarry time travels but when it’s used the right way.He loves Captain Cold and Wentworth as a “frienemy.” Big cheers for thatone and pan to the crowd to see smiles. Weather Wizard was brought up ashis favorite rogue. Mark Hamill as The Trickster.Kevin said his favorite season is the first one and that his favorite episodewas 1x15 where Barry time travels for the first time, Danielle was mentioned. He quotes the show as “Dawson’s Creek with capes.” Greg Berlanti wasa head writer on Dawson’s Creek. 28:17 is where Grant demonstrates how he does “the run” on the show. They don’tshoot his legs in frame. At the beginning they did with a treadmill.Grant is aware of what people are saying about his physic, body frame andKevin states “you have a runner’s body.” Grant agrees, “I have more of a runner’sbody than any other type.” Grant’s favorite episode is the Season 1 finale. Grant is very proud of theepisode and Kevin agrees as he brings up his infamous crying video he postedon youtube that gave him the opportunity to direct the show.Fan Q&A was around 30min mark. First question was: What is going to happenwith Nora Allen? Grant’s response is “she’s trapped in our time. We’re probablygoing to see Barry help her get back to her time.” Second question was about Grant’s education. He never graduated from ElonUniversity but was made an Alumni. He left after hisSophomore year to go on the road for “West Side Story.” Grant didn’t believehe would end up on TV, he thought he would be on the Broadway stage.Third question was about how they shoot each episode. Grant says they prepfor a week prior with table reads of the script, then shoot an episode for8-9 days. The network and studio watch it and make notes and cuts, during that time the SFX are added in. Every time an episode is finished it is 2 months agoso the show has a lot of time to omit, re shoot, polish what they want interms of what will make the cut. I don’t believe at all the show runnersare avoiding the feedback. They could easily incorporate so many things for future episodes it’sthat they choose not to. Do not tell me this is hard for them to do. Thisis how TV is run, especially a show like this. Grant says his favorite crossovers to shoot was possibly the last one inEarth X, but it was the hardest one, the Supergirl crossover was highlightedbecause of the location in LA. Grant lives in Venice Beach, Ca. Brandon Routhis his favorite actor to work with aside from Melissa and Stephen.Grant says working with Tom is a blessing and a challenge. He lovesbeing directed by Tom almost as good as being directed by Kevin. Flash has made him want to be a director but he doesn’t see it happeningwith the show. He calls it “impossible” but he mentions being interested indirecting an episode for their last season if “they let him.” The amountof control these show runners have is disgusting. Grant is a decent person and the star.He shouldn’t feel apprehensive if he wanted to direct, it’d be an honor if he did.He understands the character better than anyone. Kevin snuck in “before itall ends, who knows it might go on forever” Grant responds with “notforever.” At 38:10 the question is: how many more seasons do you think the show isgoing to do? He said at least 3 more, that takes it up to Season 7 but he saysanything could happen. Kevin adds “it’s strong in the ratings forThe CW.” Meaning if it was on a real network, it would be already cancelled.2 million viewers is not high. Right now with the adjusted they are at 3.0,with a demo of .6 thanks to the horrible Season 4 disaster Viris WA obsession. Kevin also added which surprisedme “the show will go on as long as Grant wants it to go.” Grant said he knew Kevin was gonna say that. Kevin says back it could go on for 26 seasons. Grant says sarcastically “imagine that?” Grant’s favorite musical is “Singin in the Rain” which got him interested in performing. The best part of being Flash is they give him his own superhero suit. Hementions wanting an authentic version of Christopher Reeves Superman suit.He likes wearing Star Labs and CCPD sweatshirts. The guy who asked the questionstarted asking Kevin a question and Grant was all “wtf wasn’t this supposedto be about me”? Everyone in the crowd laughed.His most difficult scene to film which was also his favorite was the scenewith Barry and his mom at the end of Season 1. His other most difficultscene was in Tom Canvanagh’s directed episode 3x19 where EmoBarry was. Kevincalled Grant with the wig “My Chemical Barry.” Grant said it was hard to shootbecause of the two conflicting emotions of playing Present Barry and FutureBarry wearing “a stupid wig.” Kevin compared EmoBarry to a “Hot Topic Employee.”Grant’s favorite Season is the first one, mainly because of how well the finale was constructed “so perfectly.”46:18 is where the question about which he prefers: his fictional WArelationship or his real relationship with Andrea. He thinks the heroes in real life are the troops, his mom because she was a single mother and supported his dreams.A fan asked “will we get a Run Nora, Run from Barry?” Grant credits Tom formaking that line iconic. Kevin agrees. Kevin says he did versions of theline in “The Runaway Dinosaur” because he loved it so much. Kevin said it is the show’s version of “May the force be with you.” No mention of “we are the flash” I wonder why….Grant answered what he has learned being The Flash and Grant credits Season1 again. He learned a lot from Barry’s empathy, his humility. He is a betterman than Grant is. 

Grant got another fan request shout out but in the videohe said “Are we ready? You’re not here but 8,000 other people are.” Crowdwent nuts. The same fan asked him if he wanted to play a Marvel superhero,which would he play. He said Spider-Man. Grant comments on what it’s like to be the star of a TV show. Even thoughhe knows he is the star in truth, he is very humble in saying it’s an ensembleshow. No mentions of CP or IW or WA. Hear that stans who stalk this blog? Grant is too much of a gentlemen to bait you demons.Grant’s most embarrassing scene was when he slide across the floor in 4x02“Mixed Signals” paying homage to Risky Business. He says because he has “chickenlegs.” He also says in the finale when Wally comes back he dropped 6 champagne glasses in 2 takes. It’s included in the bloopers. He says if he goes to the Vancouver Con he will bringhis dogs. Grant says he watches when people on set run and walk and compare it to howhe does it unintentionally. He’s met people in life that want to race him.He feels like he is a fast runner in real life, but he admits out loud hedoesn’t like running. When they are using science jargon, Grant doesn’t know what they are talking about unless he googles it. Grant loves playing the villain more than the hero. Savitar was a lot of fun for him to play. It could be because he loved working with Danielle more closely but the show will not allow any Snowbarry mentions, he’s there to plug WA, it would destroy WA as a whole and he knows it.The last couple of minutes they were talking about Grant’s famous slide into scenes, he does it at the last minute of the interview. Do with the information as you will. Grant has highs and lows here. Whenthe lows are pretty low it’s jarring when they are high it’s obvious wherehis heart is. He is a good guy that doesn’t deserve the bad treatment he’sbeen getting. Whether it’s about his character, CP’s repeated abuse of him and body shamming. Grant is nothing but friendly and takes the punches with thepraise. I hope he does more cons in the future, maybe when he is more rested and less fatigued.

Hey I came across Philip Normans book and as I'm not familiar with him I was wondering what was wrong with him as a lot of people seem to dislike him

i honestly don’t know where to even start, dear anon. it would be easier for me to list what isn’t wrong with philip norman. i can’t tell you what people as a whole dislike about him, but i can tell what i dislike about him. my immediate kneejerk reaction to your question was this poem of norman referencing paul published in the sunday times in the early 70s:

O deified Scouse, with unmusical spouseFor the clichés and cloy you unload,To an anodyne tune may they bury you soonIn the middlemost midst of the road.

to paraphrase a comment i read on heydullblog a while ago: nothing like a biographer hoping for the speedy death of one of his (later) subjects. 

it exemplifies my problem with norman: he’s made a living out of holding a grudge for the pettiest reasons. he envied paul, not only because he was “good-looking” (and boy, does he veer off into paragraphes about paul’s “doe-eyes”, “angelic” “delicate features” only “saved” from girlishness by his “five-o’clock-shadow”) but also for his “mounting riches” and his dating of “a classy young actress”. his envy turned into outright dislike for paul. norman saw paul’s failed relationship with jane as his “public sense of duty” weakening; he blamed paul for the end of the beatles, felt that he had turned into a “self-satisfied lightweight” and you can almost feel his satisfied glee whenever he feels that paul’s life veers of its “perfectly polished-rails”.    

i’ve read a few books by norman – most recently paul mccartney: the life – and excerpts of others, and each time i’ve come to the same conclusion: norman comes across as a very peculiar mix of a self-importantance, jealousy and nastiness. much like other authors of his caliber – sounes comes to mind – he seems to have been motivated by these emotions that had left him embittered enough to write books, rampant with confirmation bias, one-sided accounts, mistakes, snipes, digs and disproven or outdated anecdotes, hardly offering any new insights. yet i don’t want to dictate how you think about norman, so i present to you some pearls of wisdom by our dearest of beatles biographers to make up your own mind about how much he’s on the mark – or how far off:

“Barrow later discovered that when they’d signed their management contract, Paul had told Brian that if the Beatles didn’t work out, he was determined to become a star on his own.”

‘[And] unlike John (and Brian), Paul did not seem to have any half-concealed demons to deal with.’

“Over the next six years, Barrow would realise that the inexhaustible geniality Paul showed the world was not always replicated in private.”

“[…] Frieda Kelly[…]” (throughout the entire book, I might add)

“With the Beatles brought a radical change of image, illustrating the vastly altered demographic of those who were now with them. On the Please Please Me album cover, four cheery, unabashedly working-class lads had grinned down a stairwell at EMI’s Manchester Square headquarters, with Paul’s good looks barely noticeable. all of the above quotes – and keep in mind: these are just a select few that i had at hand from a book that spans around 800 pages of much the same quality of writing – are from paul mccartney: the life, published in 2016(!!!). while norman proclaims to have had a change of heart over the years from his previous assessment of paul in shout!, which he in the very same breath during promotion claims wasn’t really anti-paul:

…it rings hollow. to the point of where i’m not the only one wondering about how much he truly means his words, and how much of it is simply trying to save face in light of his waning monopole on being an authority when it comes to beatles history. he still heavily relies on the same old tired clichés: paul the master manipulator of all around him lacking heart and substance, paul the ambitious starlet ready to sacrifice everything and everyone, determined to make it big, paul the stingy boss of wings, paul the borderline abusive husband to linda’s dichotomy of easy american groupie vs fraught shy housewife trying to escape her domineering husband by way of her career as a photographer and writer. some of them may perhaps contain a kernel of truth, but norman seemingly lacks the ability to acknowledge nuances and the willingness to dig deeper, search for other viewpoints, or consider context. 

he still uses every other opportunity to get his digs in no matter how macabre it may be in the light of events he’s referencing as evidenced by his description of linda’s funeral procession; he, at times, solely relies on people with questionable motives like peter cox for entire chapters without questioning a thing they are saying, or letting the reader hear other voices to provide a more balanced view; he lacks the insight into his subjects as portrayed by his claim that paul’s weight gain and drastic change of looks from ‘68 to ‘70 was brought on by being “happy” with linda or his equally outrageous claim of ringo never having felt a “twinge” of “empathy” for one of his closest friends; paul and john’s relationship is reduced to a rivalry that even to john’s last breath was defined by one-upping each other. although, is it perhaps no wonder considering that paul mccartney: the life seems to be mostly a copy/paste job of his previous books (here a part of shout!, here a part of his john biography).

the less said about shout!, published in the early 80s, the better. suffice it to say that during its promotion, norman titulated john as “three-quarters of the beatles”. yes. i repeat: the less said, the better. it’s only sad that this book helped shape entire generations of authors that would buy into norman’s narrative and perpetuate it decades later.

yet my excerpt of philip norman’s books simply don’t do the man’s tastelessness and scope of grudge-holding justice. for your reading consideration i present you philip norman’s letter to paul from 2005 as well as his obituary for george harrison and his complete dismissal of ringo from an interview in 1987.

to not let this already too long post end on such a note, i feel obliged to throw in this quote by mark lewisohn, who was partly motivated by norman’s… skill, to research the topic on his own:

Mark Lewisohn: “I came to meet Philip Norman. He wanted to meet someone who was a kind of studious Beatles fan, if you like. And when we met it became clear that there were certain areas of the story he was unclear of. There were certain areas that were cloudy. And I said I would research them for him. I was 21 and he said, yes, that would nice. So I still had a job, but in my weekends and evenings I did this research for him. I was so intrigued by the findings, that I just carried on after that. I gave him what he wanted and then carried on researching and I haven’t stopped to this day.”DK: “By the way, what do you think of his book, Shout!? I don’t mean to be putting words into your mouth, but your intent, I think, is to correct a lot of mistakes that have become fact as a result of other people’s biographies of the band. Could you bring that into perspective?”Mark Lewisohn: “Well, when I was less mature, I did want to correct other people’s errors. HI - would you mind expanding on your point about Chris covering the whole Darren thing with Hansel and Gretel in TLOS? I'm still super behind on the series, only on book 2 but would be intrigued as to what you mean. I'm not worried about spoilers for the series, so would love to hear your thoughts. Love your episode ranking and your meta is always great so am always up to hear your thoughts and opinions on things!

Nonny #2 Well, Darren is my fave. But I also adore Lea and Jenna and Dianna tons. And Kevin. And I know some people have said some nasty things about Lea over the years, and I’d hate to see that they’re true because I’ve met her and she was incredibly sweet and generous with her time. Also, if you don’t mind me asking, what Hansel and Gretel thing? I didn’t catch that as a reference to Darren at all. (Chris is also a fave, so pls no one think I’m bashing/attacking him)

Okay. I should start by saying that I really should know better than to half-state things.  I really should go all in an explain myself or just not post it.  

Before I go on digging myself in a bigger hole because apparently y’all really want to hear about this, I need to clarify one not really related thing but since I’m lumping today’s controversies into one place – With the exception of Mark, who I think is a first class douche bag, I like all of the cast of Glee just fine.  I don’t think they’re perfect, but I don’t think any of them are bad people, either.  Most of them I don’t have strong opinions on at all. Just wanted to state that’s where I stand on that.  

Okay, I may regret this later - here we go. 

First of all, I’m assuming a majority of you already know the story of Hansel and Gretel.  The two kids who go walking in the woods, and nearly get eaten by a witch and live to escape.  Rather popular fairy tale.  

Here’s a summary of the story within the Land of Stories mythos. 

“Gretel explained that Hansel’s death was an accident, but a welcome one; she had pushed him without knowing they were standing on a cliff. She says she and Hansel were famous after their adventure with the witch, and Hansel enjoyed his fame too much, taking credit for killing the witch and using the story and his sister to get attention. Tired of being a part of “Hansel & Gretel”, she pleaded guilty so she could finally be “just Gretel” in prison“ -TLOS Wiki

Also, two quotes from Gretel that seem relevant.

“No one cared about me. They just cared about ‘Hansel and Gretel’. I just wanted to be Gretel, just Gretel, not no matter what I did no one would let me be just Gretel. It was like my brother had become an invisible ball and chain I was forced to carry around for the rest of my life.”

“The worst thing one person can do to another- besides eat them, of course- is to reduce their identity to being only half of something. When someone is treated as 'half of’ or 'less than half’ of one identity, they are no being treated like a human at all. Everyone should have the right to individuality.”

When I first read this, my first thought was, oh, I wonder if this has anything to do with Klaine.  

So, let me elaborate - 

1. Chris has a tendency to use his books as a way to self reflect? As therapy? As a way to work through is baggage?  Look - I don’t know Chris personally, so all of this is educated guesswork, and should be taken with the grain of salt that I’m giving out. I should stress that my opinions should not at any point be taken as facts.  Based on interviews, second hand accounts, and the four (brief) times I’ve met him, I find it apparent that Chris self-inserts a lot in his books.  This is a thing writers often do.  Struck by Lightning was an exaggeration of his high school experience.  He’s often stated that Alex and Conner are versions of him.  I’m sure Stranger than Fanfiction will have nods to Glee.  It’s something he’s mentioned in many interviews. I should add, though, unless Chris mentions it, none of us knows for sure what is and isn’t based on real life events.  None of us were there, so none of us have the authority to say what actually did or didn’t happen.  It’s all speculation - which doesn’t mean much at the end of the day. 

2. I should stress the the influence of real life events can be and usually are exaggerated in fiction. At the end of the day, Chris is writing stories, and whether they were influenced from real life or not, the story on the page should not be taken as what happened in real life.  

3. During Glee’s run, Chris had/s been very vocal about being overwhelmed by the phenomenon that was/is Klaine.  He also mentioned, several times, that he never wanted Kurt’s individual story to be lost at the alter of Klaine. Independence is an important thing to him (again, taking from context of various interviews), and he didn’t seem to be comfortable when people came at him about Klaine and nothing else. 

Anyway, from the excerpt above, I got the feeling that Chris felt that sometimes Klaine was a heavy burden he didn’t always want to deal with. Which is a fair way to feel about the thing. 

~So, you think Chris wants to push Darren off a cliff?  No.  I don’t think Hansel is Darren. (Though, if it is, it’s exaggerated greatly)  I do think he might have wanted to push Klaine off a cliff from time to time, though. 

~So, you think Chris hates Klaine? No, I don’t.  Chris has said a lot of positive things about Klaine over the years.  I don’t think he liked, however, his identity being reduced to being only the K in Klaine.  And no, I don’t think he really liked being one half of a beloved power couple.  (Which I don’t think has anything to do with Darren personally, Darren just happens to be the other half of the equation) 

~So, what does this have to do with Stranger than Fanfiction again? As far as I can tell - this Hansel and Gretel thing is the only time anything Darren related (via Klaine) has really stood out to me in Chris’s fiction.  Is Darren in other places? I don’t know - I don’t know Chris or Darren, and I don’t know what is a direct reference outside of minimal guesses and what Chris explicitly says.  

I do know that Chris is careful not to bring up Darren because he very much does not like the fact that people so vocally (and sometimes harmfully) ‘ship’ he and Darren together.  (Darren has mentioned on numerous occasions how much Chris hates that.) And therefore I don’t believe he’s going to bring it up in Stranger than Fanfiction.  Again - I haven’t read the book, so I don’t actually know what’s in it yet.  And - I could be totally wrong.  It’s mild speculation, based on Chris’s trends, that I mentioned he probably wouldn’t bring up reference to Darren in the book.  But really, I do not know.

And as an added bonus, because these things always lead down this road and someone will probably ask eventually, the one time I’m ever going to discuss it – What do you think the nature of Chris and Darren’s friendship is? 

Well - here are the facts that I know (man, I wish I had my sources ready to go like a good researcher - but I’m too tired to link): 

Fact: Chris and Darren have both stated in interviews that they are friends with each other.  (My opinion - Glee is a family, and Chris and Darren seem to me, to be good/decent friends, who get along with each other as any family member would with another.  I don’t think they are as close with each other as they are other cast members, but they’ve both stated they definitely do not hate each other either.) 

Fact: Chris and Darren have both explicitly stated that they are not now or ever have been in a relationship with each other; and both are in individual long term relationships. (My opinion - and it seems to bother the fuck outta Chris that people people ship he and Darren, so he and Darren at some point discussed how to tackle public exposure, which is why they didn’t appear together that often in public settings.  How ever they are in their private lives, we are not privy to outside of things they’ve explicitly shared with us.) 

Fact: Darren identifies as straight. (My opinion - the only person to who can identify your sexuality is you.)

Whatever you want to extrapolate from that, be my guest.  But that’s all I’m going to say on the matter.
