Ghost
I really like this comic created by @ffuscous so I wrote this little blurb. Definitely shorter than my other little blurbs, but I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it. -Silas
[Steddie]
There are ghosts in Hawkins, Indiana.
Eddie drove down the road with Black Sabbath blaring from his speakers. Hellfire had gone well, but the kids were all on edge. He had seen it in the way that they would each drift during the session. Eddie sighed.
Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley had been missing for three months now. Eddie still roamed the streets trying to find them. Looking for the two and putting missing posters up everywhere. He’d gotten cornered by Jason Carver and his crew a couple of times, but Eddie wouldn’t stop looking, even if it left him vulnerable to his tormentors.
His eyes widened as his headlights lit up a lone figure standing in the road. He pressed his foot to the brake, luckily stopping short a couple of feet. Eddie jumped out of his van and called out to the figure.
“Hey man, you ok? You need some help?”
Eddie’s brows furrowed as the stranger mumbled unintelligibly. Eddie’s doe eyes hardened as he took in the bloody Scoops uniform and disheveled caramel brown hair.
“Steve?”
The figure turned still talking unintelligibly. Eddie flinched at the dead, cold gaze of Steve. This was not the Steve he knew.
“Steve, how can I help? Please, Steve,” Eddie pleaded, his heart racing.
Steve’s bloodied hand raised and pointed in the distance.
“NO, ROBIN, PLEASE! GOD, ROBIN, ROBIN! AGHHHH, AHHHHHHHHHHH, AHHHHHHHHHH! PLEASE GOD! ROBIN PLEASE!”
Eddie flinched at the bloodcurdling screams blaring from his car and turned to it in horror. Eddie turned back quickly, hoping to get Steve into his van. Yet, Steve had vanished before he could turn back around. Something horrifying was happening and he would find Steve and Robin; even if he ended up dying in the process.
There are ghosts in Hawkins, Indiana.

The Cold Spring Murders
February 28, 2023
On September 13, 1868, the bodies of Jacob and Nancy Young were found along White River in Cold Spring, close to Indianapolis. Both Jacob and Nancy had been shot in the head on September 12, the day before they were discovered. A gun belonging to a man named William J. Abrams was found near the scene.
It wasn’t long before William J. Abrams, a man named Silas Hartman, and Silas’ sister Nancy Clem were arrested for the murders of the Young’s. This caused attention nationwide because Nancy Clem, a woman, was suspected of murder which was outrageous for the time.
Benjamin Harrison, who later became the 23rd President of the United States was the public prosecutor in the trial.
William Abrams was arrested on September 15, 1868, Silas on September 21, and Nancy on October 7. The evidence suggested that Nancy Clem, who was a businesswoman had actually been involved in a business scam and owed money to Jacob Young, the victim.
The first trial ended in a hung jury. However, all three suspects were found guilty in the second trial. Silas actually confessed to the murders and later took his own life in his cell. William was sentenced to life imprisonment but was pardoned by James D. Williams, the Governor at the time in 1878.
Nancy Clem’s conviction was known as Benjamin Harrison’s greatest courtroom victory at the time. The Indiana Supreme Court ended up overturning the guilty verdict, and Harrison retried the case. Again, a conviction was won. The second murder conviction was overturned by the State Supreme Court, and this time Boone County commissioners dismissed the case.
Nancy Clem was tried 5 different times for the murders, but never ended up convicted. Nancy was later convicted of perjury and forgery in another case that involved a financial scam.

their mother , charlotte madden , had left echo and silas finch when echo was only four . she doesn’t have many memories about her , only watching her on the evening news every night , after her mother remarried & ‘ bettered ’ herself . she never heard much from her mother either . she took inspiration from the myth her name comes from , and secretly referred to her mother as narcissus . sometimes narcissa , during her harry potter phase when she was twelve . she found the woman to be selfish , only capable of loving herself & abandoning someone who ached for her . just like the myth .
silas did the best he could raising echo . he’d spoil her the best he could , try everything to understand her . the pair lived alone , in a trailer park in avon , while charlotte was off living like she’d never been involved with either of them in the first place . silas tried to better himself , too . but for echo , unlike charlotte . he’d began taking night classes to get his g.e.d. & picked up extra jobs where and when ever he could . he’d bartend on days he didn’t have class , he’d work handyman jobs here and there , coaching at the high school , and , eventually , landing a more steady gig out in california with his new degree in music -- doing something with audio engineering . he’d saved enough money to get them a nice place . it was small , but it was theirs .
echo and silas left their little trailer when echo was 15 . before she was born , her father was going to be a musician . & now he got to work in music , finally . everything echo knows and loves is because of her father . she gets her fire from him , and her love for music and film .
in california , silas was able to earn enough money that the two of them no longer had to struggle . it wasn’t until then that echo had even really realized how much they had struggled , before . part of her missed it though . she never quite fit in back home in indiana , but that was almost better . in california , she was able to make friends , to some degree , but none of them seemed to quite fit .

Transformative year: African American coaches now lead 50% of NBA teams It’s been nearly 60 years since Bill Russell broke the NBA coaching color barrier when he became the first African American man to coach a team; he accepted the role as player-coach of the Celtics starting with the 1966-67 season and won a championship in his second season. Al Attles and Lenny Wilkens were the next two African American coaches to get opportunities; they would become champions as well. There have been roughly 260 different coaches in the NBA, excluding short-term interim fill-ins, since Russell was hired, and 1 out of 3 of those coaches have been African American. But most of those African American coaches have either lasted in their first job no more than three years or not gotten a second chance at leading a team. “For many years qualified young coaches of color like Ime Udoka, Jamahl Mosley, Willie Green, Wes Unseld Jr., Darvin Ham, and Stephen Silas, to name just a few, were not getting consistent opportunities to interview for NBA head coaching positions,” said Indiana coach Rick Carlisle, the president of the National Basketball Coaches Association. “The last two years changed everything. Part of that awareness came from a meeting that three league officials – Commissioner Adam Silver, chief people, and inclusion officer Oris Stuart and president of social responsibility and player programs Kathy Behrens. Coaches Equality Initiative was born. The NBCA worked with the league in many ways to get it started, including the building of a database; in a couple of clicks, teams in need of coaches could get information, including qualifications, experience, and even an on-camera interview. Silver said Thursday. “If you care about diversity and inclusion in your workplace … it has to become a focus.” There are still areas where the NBA can improve in terms of diversity. The Vanished Town of New Manchester
Sweetwater Creek is a fast-flowing tributary of the Chattahoochee River in Douglas County, just west of Atlanta. Here entrepreneurs constructed a 300-foot-long wooden mill dam to impound the stream and dug a long millrace to provide power to Sweetwater Mill which sported a 50,000-pound waterwheel. The seventeen-building complex was dominated by a textile mill but also had a shoe factory and flour mills and gristmills. At five stories, it was the tallest building in the Atlanta region, and its ninety looms and 6,000 spindles daily produced 750 yards of cotton and wool cloth used by the Confederate Army. One hundred works, primarily women and 400 young dependents occupied mill houses in the community of New Manchester.
In this isolated region, the Civil War itself seemed far away, but the conflict intruded even here. In July 1864, Union cavalry commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Silas Adams and Major Haviland Thompkin entered New Manchester to find the mills producing at top capacity. On July 9, Thompkin ordered his six artillery pieces, a battery of twelve-pounder Napoleons, to shatter the mill dam. Troopers splashed kerosene over the mill complex and set the community aflame.
The true crime then occurred. Five hundred women and children were escorted to Marietta with only the belongings they could carry and put on a train for Indiana. Legend says their treatment was brutal, and none ever returned home. The truth, though cruel enough, does not reach such mythical proportions. Many of the women found respectable employment, and some made it back to Georgia.
The mills at New Manchester, remote from transportation, were never reconstructed. The site of New Manchester is now within Sweetwater Creek State Park (Thornton Road exit off I-20, west of Atlanta). A trail follows the millrace beside the beautiful creek to the haunting multiple-story ruins of the textile mill.
Synthia Stewart was a nine-year-old participant in this tragedy. Decades later, known as Granny Boyd, she spoke her account to an Edison recording cylinder: "The Northern men told women in the factory to get themselves at home and get 'em a little tad of clothes, some for the chil'n and a suit for themselves if they could-what they could carry in their arms. . . . . And if they didn't get out by a certain time, they'd set the thing afire."
