Tell me about your ghosts ocs.

a brief history of button house through the many annoying people who had the misfortune to die there:

celtic:

diuset. "She had a fine blue cloak, as deep and wide as any ocean, and fierce eyes, a grey-green colour which shifted back and forth with the swaying of the grass. [...] Her hair was streaked with rust and iron now, and her days were numbered." married with children. had flaming red hair which began to fade as she reached her late forties. then she died. neither she nor robin know when, where, or how she died, due to a lack of medical knowledge and shifting land boundaries, but rest assured that she did die. the first ghost to really stick around (before, many come, and all go). unfortunately, they don't get along - robin is struggling to pick up her language at the point that she dies, and he hasn't had millennia of practice picking up foreign language just yet. they don't interact very much, but she's one of several people who helps shape his name and present identity - she's the first to associate him with robins. like him, she's around for a long time and as old as the hills, and eventually moves on in the early twelfth century. he doesn't really understand her, but he does miss her

anglo-saxon:

leofstan. died with an infected and broken leg, though robin doesn't know how he died either - more because he wasn't there than anything else. fourteen, the child ghost before jemima, swears and jokes a lot to hide how much he hates dying young. lived around the sixth to seventh century, and was a pagan anglo-saxon (with some celtic family). he moves on in the early 1400s, and he's robin's first enduring friend. according to west horsley place's website the house has indeed been inhabited since anglo-saxon times

godric. "[He] was a blacksmith—broad, tall, muscular [...] Godric brought his hand to the back of his neck, brushing under golden curls to get to the nape of his neck." thirties. robin's boyfriend <3 died in the first half of the tenth century. the first christian ghost. a happily married blacksmith until he was brutally murdered by a carpenter who got jealous of him. smashed his head against an anvil and the damage to the back of his head killed him. moved on... 1200s? 1300s? before the fifteenth century. (in terms of when they moved on, quite a few of these ghosts are just be (before elizabeth) and ae (after elizabeth) to me. the seventeenth century is also a game changer.) the most level-headed and rational ghost. probably one of the more, um, sensitive and emotionally intelligent ghosts as well. rare, i know! he clings to robin quite a bit, and doesn't really connect with the other ghosts on a deeper level

nobles:

william. widower, early thirties. should have cropped light brown hair, but as he died very slowly it's actually quite unkempt. he also has a fair bit of stubble. tall, lanky, and unnervingly gaunt, he looks like he rolled out the wrong side of the bed this morning. which is fair enough, because he died of tuberculosis! he died over the span of several months, and unfortunately was clinging onto his sword at time of death, so he now has to lug around his sword, adhémar, with the strength of a dying man. always breaking out into coughing fits and coughing up blood. he picks up a bit of old english before he dies. a cross between pat's infuriating optimism and the captain's tragic obsession with war - he was a norman knight, and inconveniently died soon after the first crusade was declared. he winds up with a love for crusading culture, conquering christianity, etc., but dislikes the sight of blood and also, crucially, died decades before richard i was born. so he's a failure all round. moves on in the 1590s; humphrey meets him, but not for very long. an obvious departure from the canonical william, but i'm not changing him now. his ghost power is a bit rubbish - he can still interact with the physical world, but only via his sword. there are some very weird rumours about tapestry-slashing ghosts in the centuries after his death

geoffrey. an idiotic anglo-norman knight who, on his way back home, fell off his horse and was trampled to death. yeah, he's not a fun sight. late thirties, early forties. really quite useless. dies a few years into the reign of henry ii - survived the anarchy but skipped the becket bullshit, basically. moves on in the 1300s, so most of the later ghosts have absolutely no clue who he is. dies childless

matilda. geoffrey's wife, and funnily enough also dies childless. a few years younger than geoffrey - mid to late thirties - and went out looking for him in a panic when he died, because there was no sign of him and he was supposed to be back. unfortunately, it was the dead of winter and she caught hypothermia. it's a loving marriage, but, like several of these ghosts, they have no children. (there is a bit of a running theme here - not leaving behind a legacy, in the nobles' cases; abandoning their families to potential danger and poverty, in the not rich dicks' cases.) moves on in about 1603 - to join her beloved husband

elizabeth. "Elizabeth turned away to face the window, the dying sun failing to breathe life into her black curls." "Elizabeth met his eyes: dark and shiny, not so unlike hers, matching the reflective gleam of the conkers that fell each year in the village next door." sometimes hangs around matilda because she's cold. slightly taller than the average height for a woman. early twenties, married to a yorkist before he very stupidly went and died. also childless. the lands she dies on, once the home of norman barons, then the home of plague ghosts, then the home of the bones, is passed over to [insert a yorkist here, honestly i don't know]. humphrey's... great-grandfather? something like that. well, he's a traitor blah blah blah, and stripped of his lands after the 1450s, so (a cadet branch of; humphrey de bohun, last earl of hereford, was already dead) the de bohuns lose what little wealth they had left and more or less disappear into disgrace. they eventually become elizabeth's dower lands until she very stupidly also goes and dies - of the sweating sickness. whereas william died very slowly, and matilda is permanently cold, elizabeth dies in the span of only a day and spends the rest of her afterlife permanently feverish. also, in only a shift - imagine a tragic gothic heroine walking around in only her nightclothes, then make it the 1400s and her reclusive, repressed, depressed, and some other words ending in -pressed. also bitter. she missed out on a lot. in fact, she died in august, 1485. (and moved on in the late 1600s.) the sweating sickness is generally associated with the arrival of henry vii in london, as well as later outbreaks throughout the tudor period - there was a particularly bad one in 1551, during edward vi's reign - but it appears to have been in england before bosworth, at least during august. she also died in her sleep, which is never a good idea, and her body was taken away before she woke up - so it took her a while to realise she was dead, never mind accept her. robin finds it awful and traumatic, then talks to her for five minutes and decides he hates her. she hates protestants, particularly the dissolution of local monasteries and the destruction of late medieval catholicism in england. but then, so do most of the ghosts around her. living people can sometimes see her if they're light-headed/dizzy/on the verge of passing out. also not very useful

edmund. looks similar to elizabeth. roughly in his forties, though i don't know how he died or indeed much about his life. honestly, this one is cheating - in my idea of canon he's humphrey's grandfather and lives and dies before moving on to the great beyond. but in my aus where humphrey doesn't die on schedule, he replaces humphrey as a ghost. it's probably a heart attack, unless you choose to believe that it's poisoning like people in the sixteenth century probably would. anyway, after the death of his father he rises to power as an advisor to henry vii (relatively late in his reign), and is restored to his family fortunes and titles (it's all a bit complicated, but the last humphrey de bohun died without male issue, so the titles ended up all over the place. eventually the earldom of essex went to thomas cromwell and the earldom of northampton went to william parr as a marquessate. here edmund gets the earldom of hereford as a reward. thrilling stuff, i know), as well as being granted bone hall. this runs contrary to both canon and also actual history, but if humphrey's allowed to live there with a nonsensical timeline then i'm allowed to ignore henry courtenay living there. (sorry. i won't reference henry viii, i swear, i'm trying really hard to not talk about him here.) elizabeth never forgives him for taking over her lands despite the fact that they're technically his anyway. because she already hates him, he grows to hate her when he dies - suddenly, without any chance to prepare. they eventually learn to cooperate, mostly because neither of them are close to the rest of the ghosts, who are all much older than them. it takes literal decades and realising that they've both missed out on a lot in life for that to happen, though. she has definitely told him to kill himself even though he's already dead at least once

the one modern guy:

clarence. early thirties. tall and strong. a gardener at button house whilst george is a child. he married his sweetheart, but died only a few years after that - a teenage george dared him to skate on the lake when it froze over. as you might guess, it cracked and he drowned. he's good mates with thomas, as they're of a similar age and died in relatively close proximity. he dies in the *counts aggressively on fingers* early 1570s - george has a crush on him, but fanny never meets him, except for a few years after her death. they never really get along and he never reveals his past to her. quiet and also immensely traumatised by his death - he can't handle entering bodies of water and he's cold and miserable because he spends the entirety of his afterlife in shock, freezing and in soaking wet clothes. he does like thomas's poetry, though - he's the first and very nearly the last. a lot nicer to the ghosts than they necessarily are to him. humphrey would pay him back for it but he never had the limbs

@servobotz's Norman + Ktty honestly. The gameplay aes and composition reminds me so much of Sims 2, esp Kitty, she reminds me of Sims 2 aliens, and I love it. I'm such a Sims 2 girlie; I love everything reminiscent of it, and that's what Norman and Kitty give off :]

Mai Callahan by @celestos; I love this damn sim so much. I love sims who come off as someone you'd meet in real life. Mai just gives off that vibe. She looks like someone you'd bump into at a farmers market or someone you'd buy a couch off of on FB marketplace LMAO

Lastly, Ollie by @sojutrait, I don't really need to go into depth like I love her; I binged/consumed Halabi's legacy when I first became active on Tumblr. She was by far my most fav Halabi. I would die for her idk

Ages are approximate, since we mostly get stuff like 'early thirties' and as a setting Starstruck has multiple ways to age faster or slower than normal. A year is equal to two cycles.

I downloaded AE and it took me a whole hour just to figure out how to put clips in and split a scene... and even then it was horrible. Ive never felt more stupid.

今日睇世界動畫精選，睇左三條不得了既animation!! 入場miss左兩套animation T vT 第三套Impossible Figures and other stories I 啲cam move睇到stone撚咗，點解啲timing 同metamorphosis可以捉得咁準，唔敢相信係frame by frame animation, 唔知佢係咪逐格畫，可能係先畫左一大堆boiling element,再dum入AE搞3D cam, 成套野啲transition都睇得好爽(⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎) 3D generate既procedural 野同個visual都好夾，一開頭個個dolly-in pass though哂成段回憶個part最impress到我，2D line加咁smooth 既camera movement成件事唔會睇落好CG, 同好有一氣呵成既感覺！ National Film Board of Canada出既independent animation都好lun firm, 想mark 翻呢幾位我巧鐘意既NFB artist追翻以前啲animation黎睇 - Caroline Leaf (用沙逐格整左The Street個條友）， Norman McLaren(發明pixilation, drawn on film同graphical sound個位大senpei) , Paul Driessen (The End of the World in Four Seasons - Multiframe 用咗8個window同時show個個場景既8個分鏡，巧得意！），仲有Marta Pajek，佢呢套好似仲有出part 2,3, 要睇睇佢！

第四套《不安之體》Yoriko Mizushiri架仔作品必屬佳品，好鐘意佢啲彈下彈下既線條，個種相黏既觸感睇到成身都痴埋一舊，條片俾左好多唔同既感官體驗，透過sound design同畫面動作，個腦好似自動波咁俾左唔同質感你，有啲係幾舒服，兩隻手指痴住張膠紙，有啲睇到起雞皮，蛇條痢痴住咗係膠紙俾刀片切咗落黎，仲有個人啲肉俾個網cool到吱哂啲肉出黎，好多質感既一條片，sound design巧得意(⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎)，聲音巧多layer同texture, 睇得巧爽！

第六套《梅婆》黃榮俊，dllm大愛です！一定都是湯淺政明的fan屎(⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎) 「十個一百係咪一億」無限loop, 呢啲recording實在太正鳥，有時都好想錄低啲阿叔講野，整翻隻cassette慢慢聽佢地講經～入面都係玩左好多唔同style同texture, hand drawn, 3D, live action 全部都work到(⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎)屌師兄簡直係人生榜樣，無論係故事同animation都睇到好有共鳴～觀音誦經個part 到左成條片高潮位, 跟住入翻細個同婆婆既回憶，巧溫馨巧貼地(;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`) 列入十大我最喜愛animation之一！

More film/show quick reviews

I Am Not Okay With This (2020) - ok this is a series but shhhh! I LOVED this. The main girl is SOOO likeable and funny to me. Sad it was cancelled, now I want to read the comic to find out what happens next…

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) - I did watch this once as a kid, but shh. Very quippy and quotable, I kept thinking of various KH crack videos with dubs from this LOL.

Polar (2019) - More camp than I expected LOL. The vibes between Montana and the rest of the film feel like two different movies. In terms of women roles, it feels uh.. pre-Gamer Gate… CW: long sex scene, fatphobia, torture, and the dog dies…

The Spider Man Trilogy (2002, 2004, 2007) - Okay I actually genuinely love how camp these movies are. Love the camera movement. Still really surprised how good the 2004 film is!

The Irishman (2019) - god this movie was so long and for what! LOL. Fantastic performances though. And I got used to the de-aging VFX, even if they caught me off guard at first. Still, perhaps I wasn't the audience this movie was for because I really felt it was so long...

Venom + Venom Carnage (2018, 2021) - Wow I really just… really do not fucking care for car chase scenes LOL. These movies were alright, but honestly I probably will never watch them again haha. Venom and Eddie were funny! I saw glimpses of the sexuality that all the fans were bonkers about (though it was weaker than I expected based on said fans reactions lmao).

Titan AE (2000) - Very very y2k movie LOL. The rock music is sooo funny and does not fit the sci fi at ALL imo lmao. I do prefer Treasure Planet for Jim and Silver’s relationship, so I wish the emotional relationships were stronger in this movie. But still a fun movie. Stith4Ever. Why was Akima’s skull so fucking long.

The Hunger Games films (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015)- I know that these movies ironically fulfill the very notion I've heard the books were against (making a entertaining spectacle of dark topics, among other things), I do really like them 🙈 My favorite will always be Mocking Jay pt 1 just because I love that underground-jumpsuit aesthetic LOL. Lock me away, boys 🚓🚨

The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) - Okay other than Illumination’s loathsome “Our movies cannot slow down at all even once” problem, this movie was great. They made Mario and Luigi. So. fucking. adorable. And Bowser was great ofc.

American Psycho (2000) - I DO think this is a good film, but I also can’t BELIEVE this satirical doofus is the guy so many men project themselves onto LOL. I wasn’t expecting a theme on conformity, but to me its what makes the movie interesting.

The King's Man (2021) - This delivered what I expected: fun characters, action scenes that are unique and actually interesting, epic music that makes you feel like you’re with old friends. And it delivered what I did not expect: The WEIRDEST erotic scene I have EVER seen LMAO.

Agent Cody Banks (2003) - Saw this so young I don’t really remember it. This movie has a much higher budget than I remember LOL. Not really innovative but it was for kids, and I remember loving it.

Nope (2022) - okay okay I will admit at first I was like “okay how does the monkey connect” but my dumbass didn't realize Jupe had been purposely giving horses to the UFO, so realizing that Jupe tried taming the UFO in the way he thought he tamed the monkey really made me love this film even more. No wonder Jordan Peele's considered the next Steven Spielberg!

Rope (1948) - NGL I was hoping Rupert would go along :/ This would be so fun on see on stage, I enjoyed it!

Psycho (1960) - I enjoyed this too! One scene that will stick with me is the camera shift in Norman and Marion’s conversation when mothers are brought up. Very interesting cinematography there.

Hoodwinked (2005) - l watched this friends lmao; I was very hesitant, but I gotta admit it was funnier than I expected. The various POVs really makes it a unique animated comedy.

Fight Club (1999) - God first 12 minutes of this film I thought I was going fucking crazy! But hey you know I get it now. This is a fun movie. It feels like the opposite reaction to consumerism and conformity than American Psycho’s, an interesting pair of movies.

Three Pines (2022) - Once again, a show not a film, but I really enjoyed this series. Loved the setting, the atmosphere, the characters, the mysteries. Even though its a detective show with murder, I still found it oddly cozy enough to be a comfort show for the future LOL. Maybe it's because Armand is just that likeable!

Alice in Wonderland with neopronouns (ae/aer)

CHAPTER III. A Caucus-Race and a Long Tale

They were indeed a queer-looking party that assembled on the bank—the birds with draggled feathers, the animals with their fur clinging close to them, and all dripping wet, cross, and uncomfortable.

The first question of course was, how to get dry again: they had a consultation about this, and after a few minutes it seemed quite natural to Alice to find aerself talking familiarly with them, as if ae had known them all aer life. Indeed, ae had quite a long argument with the Lory, who at last turned sulky, and would only say, “I am older than you, and must know better;” and this Alice would not allow without knowing how old it was, and, as the Lory positively refused to tell its age, there was no more to be said.

At last the Mouse, who seemed to be a person of authority among them, called out, “Sit down, all of you, and listen to me! I’ll soon make you dry enough!” They all sat down at once, in a large ring, with the Mouse in the middle. Alice kept aer eyes anxiously fixed on it, for ae felt sure ae would catch a bad cold if ae did not get dry very soon.

“Ahem!” said the Mouse with an important air, “are you all ready? This is the driest thing I know. Silence all round, if you please! ‘William the Conqueror, whose cause was favoured by the pope, was soon submitted to by the English, who wanted leaders, and had been of late much accustomed to usurpation and conquest. Edwin and Morcar, the earls of Mercia and Northumbria—’”

“Ugh!” said the Lory, with a shiver.

“I beg your pardon!” said the Mouse, frowning, but very politely: “Did you speak?”

“Not I!” said the Lory hastily.

“I thought you did,” said the Mouse. “—I proceed. ‘Edwin and Morcar, the earls of Mercia and Northumbria, declared for him: and even Stigand, the patriotic archbishop of Canterbury, found it advisable—’”

“Found what?” said the Duck.

“Found it,” the Mouse replied rather crossly: “of course you know what ‘it’ means.”

“I know what ‘it’ means well enough, when I find a thing,” said the Duck: “it’s generally a frog or a worm. The question is, what did the archbishop find?”

The Mouse did not notice this question, but hurriedly went on, “‘—found it advisable to go with Edgar Atheling to meet William and offer him the crown. William’s conduct at first was moderate. But the insolence of his Normans—’ How are you getting on now, my dear?” it continued, turning to Alice as it spoke.

“As wet as ever,” said Alice in a melancholy tone: “it doesn’t seem to dry me at all.”

“In that case,” said the Dodo solemnly, rising to its feet, “I move that the meeting adjourn, for the immediate adoption of more energetic remedies—”

“Speak English!” said the Eaglet. “I don’t know the meaning of half those long words, and, what’s more, I don’t believe you do either!” And the Eaglet bent down its head to hide a smile: some of the other birds tittered audibly.

“What I was going to say,” said the Dodo in an offended tone, “was, that the best thing to get us dry would be a Caucus-race.”

“What is a Caucus-race?” said Alice; not that ae wanted much to know, but the Dodo had paused as if it thought that somebody ought to speak, and no one else seemed inclined to say anything.

“Why,” said the Dodo, “the best way to explain it is to do it.” (And, as you might like to try the thing yourself, some winter day, I will tell you how the Dodo managed it.)

First it marked out a race-course, in a sort of circle, (“the exact shape doesn’t matter,” it said,) and then all the party were placed along the course, here and there. There was no “One, two, three, and away,” but they began running when they liked, and left off when they liked, so that it was not easy to know when the race was over. However, when they had been running half an hour or so, and were quite dry again, the Dodo suddenly called out “The race is over!” and they all crowded round it, panting, and asking, “But who has won?”

This question the Dodo could not answer without a great deal of thought, and it sat for a long time with one finger pressed upon its forehead (the position in which you usually see Shakespeare, in the pictures of him), while the rest waited in silence. At last the Dodo said, “Everybody has won, and all must have prizes.”

“But who is to give the prizes?” quite a chorus of voices asked.

“Why, ae, of course,” said the Dodo, pointing to Alice with one finger; and the whole party at once crowded round aer, calling out in a confused way, “Prizes! Prizes!”

Alice had no idea what to do, and in despair ae put aer hand in aer pocket, and pulled out a box of comfits, (luckily the salt water had not got into it), and handed them round as prizes. There was exactly one a-piece, all round.

“But ae must have a prize aerself, you know,” said the Mouse.

“Of course,” the Dodo replied very gravely. “What else have you got in your pocket?” he went on, turning to Alice.

“Only a thimble,” said Alice sadly.

“Hand it over here,” said the Dodo.

Then they all crowded round aer once more, while the Dodo solemnly presented the thimble, saying “We beg your acceptance of this elegant thimble;” and, when it had finished this short speech, they all cheered.

Alice thought the whole thing very absurd, but they all looked so grave that ae did not dare to laugh; and, as ae could not think of anything to say, ae simply bowed, and took the thimble, looking as solemn as ae could.

The next thing was to eat the comfits: this caused some noise and confusion, as the large birds complained that they could not taste theirs, and the small ones choked and had to be patted on the back. However, it was over at last, and they sat down again in a ring, and begged the Mouse to tell them something more.

“You promised to tell me your history, you know,” said Alice, “and why it is you hate—C and D,” ae added in a whisper, half afraid that it would be offended again.

“Mine is a long and a sad tale!” said the Mouse, turning to Alice, and sighing.

“It is a long tail, certainly,” said Alice, looking down with wonder at the Mouse’s tail; “but why do you call it sad?” And ae kept on puzzling about it while the Mouse was speaking, so that aer idea of the tale was something like this:—

“Fury said to a mouse, That he met in the house, ‘Let us both go to law: I will prosecute you.—Come, I’ll take no denial; We must have a trial: For really this morning I’ve nothing to do.’ Said the mouse to the cur, ‘Such a trial, dear sir, With no jury or judge, would be wasting our breath.’ ‘I’ll be judge, I’ll be jury,’ Said cunning old Fury: ‘I’ll try the whole cause, and condemn you to death.’”

“You are not attending!” said the Mouse to Alice severely. “What are you thinking of?”

“I beg your pardon,” said Alice very humbly: “you had got to the fifth bend, I think?”

“I had not!” cried the Mouse, sharply and very angrily.

“A knot!” said Alice, always ready to make aerself useful, and looking anxiously about aer. “Oh, do let me help to undo it!”

“I shall do nothing of the sort,” said the Mouse, getting up and walking away. “You insult me by talking such nonsense!”

“I didn’t mean it!” pleaded poor Alice. “But you’re so easily offended, you know!”

The Mouse only growled in reply.

“Please come back and finish your story!” Alice called after it; and the others all joined in chorus, “Yes, please do!” but the Mouse only shook its head impatiently, and walked a little quicker.

“What a pity it wouldn’t stay!” sighed the Lory, as soon as it was quite out of sight; and an old Crab took the opportunity of saying to her daughter “Ah, my dear! Let this be a lesson to you never to lose your temper!” “Hold your tongue, Ma!” said the young Crab, a little snappishly. “You’re enough to try the patience of an oyster!”

“I wish I had our Dinah here, I know I do!” said Alice aloud, addressing nobody in particular. “She’d soon fetch it back!”

“And who is Dinah, if I might venture to ask the question?” said the Lory.

Alice replied eagerly, for ae was always ready to talk about aer pet: “Dinah’s our cat. And she’s such a capital one for catching mice you can’t think! And oh, I wish you could see her after the birds! Why, she’ll eat a little bird as soon as look at it!”

This speech caused a remarkable sensation among the party. Some of the birds hurried off at once: one old Magpie began wrapping itself up very carefully, remarking, “I really must be getting home; the night-air doesn’t suit my throat!” and a Canary called out in a trembling voice to its children, “Come away, my dears! It’s high time you were all in bed!” On various pretexts they all moved off, and Alice was soon left alone.

“I wish I hadn’t mentioned Dinah!” ae said to aerself in a melancholy tone. “Nobody seems to like her, down here, and I’m sure she’s the best cat in the world! Oh, my dear Dinah! I wonder if I shall ever see you any more!” And here poor Alice began to cry again, for ae felt very lonely and low-spirited. In a little while, however, ae again heard a little pattering of footsteps in the distance, and ae looked up eagerly, half hoping that the Mouse had changed his mind, and was coming back to finish his story.
