Summary: In the most ambitious heist ever planned, Team Rocket attempts to steal two legendary Pokémon – one from the Burial Mounds Gym Leader, Wei Ying; and one from the Snow White Pavilion Gym Leader, Lan Zhan. These two former rivals are paired up to battle against one another for the first time since becoming Gym Leaders! Will they be able to defeat Team Rocket? Or will they loose their composure and their Pokémon? (Just joking, Wei Ying and Lan Zhan never even notice Team Rocket. They only have eyes for each other!) Kay's comments: It's been a hot minute since I last consumed any Pokémon content, but you don't have to be very knowledgeable to get the gist of this fic. Rivals fem Wangxian meet again after years apart to battle, now both as gym trainers and it goes differently than expected. Really loved the slow clearing of the past misunderstandings between them and of course the Wen-Wei found family vibes. And Wei Ying the MILF. Excerpt: “Wei Ying,” Lan Zhan breathes out raggedly. She comes up to the top landing, but doesn't get any closer. “Can you tell me what I did wrong?” Wei Ying tries to keep her voice even, “You didn't do anything wrong.” She doesn't succeed. Her voice breaks as she says that. “You forfeit the match. You are crying. Please, what can I do?” Lan Zhan keeps her voice soft. Before today, they have not spoken in almost four years. Wei Ying has never heard her be so gentle. She clearly will not leave until she knows Wei Ying is fine. So Wei Ying just needs to convince her of that, somehow. “You really didn't do anything wrong. I just wasn't expecting to see Froslass again. I swear, I just need a moment. Then I'll be fine.” Lan Zhan sucks in a breath, “I traded to get Froslass because the other person told me you were the original trainer.” “I'm glad she's with you. That's... I really am happy. I'm just surprised.” Wei Ying sternly tells herself that she is happy. This is what she originally wanted.

love the gym leaders that just refuse to have a regular gym building. to me, becoming a gym leader is the the real world equivalent of having a masters or doctoral on a specific field like anthropology or entomology. they are all insanely-skilled academicians who are really focused on their specific field/type.

agatha definitey had to drag blaine from spending all his time around the volcano in cinnabar and the pokemon there. lance definitely had to fight claire from spending all her time inside the dragon's den instead of her actual gym. wallace was at all times five seconds away from sending a search party for steven since he spends a lot of time training inside whatever cave he stumbled on.

elite four members are probably more insane. they only have to spend time at the pokemon league when a trainer get eight badges. these bitches can do whatever they want with their time. malva even had time to join the mafia.

All the gen 8 gym leaders were designed by Take, excluding Bede and Marnie if you count those. They also designed all the important members of the aether foundation, and Adaman and Irida. AND they designed the psychic, ghost and fighting Hatsune Miku designs for project VOLTAGE.

What is with these newer generations and having easily some of my favorite gym leaders?

First in Galar, we’ve got icons like Allister, Melony, Nessa and Opal. Then over in Paldea, we’ve got Kofu the jovial, spirited pirate guy; Katy the sweet chef lady; Brassius the scruffy-looking yet dedicated ~artisté~ who made my day with his Sunflora test (I love Sunflora it’s so cUTE HHHHH- 💝💖); Ryme (I did NOT except our Ghost-type gym leader to be a rapper in a small candle-lit town atop a snowy mountain who has a full scene where she rap battles someone but I am HERE FOR IT); and Iono the perky streamer gal whose design still kinda intimidates me - like, during her debut trailer, she was SHOVING her face into the camera to show off her bright magenta eyes and, uh… shark teeth, and she’s got that MASSIVE poncho w/ the sleeve tags that look like they could do some damage if you happened to be in her way while she’s doing a twirl, and those huge freaking Magnemite hair clips - oh, and also Larry, who’s comically unenthusiastic, and who I was pleasantly surprised to find out was part of the Elite Four.

Oh, speaking of the Elite Four, I LOVE THEM TOO HHHHH- I like that you meet them a few times on the Victory Road path, and get to know them a little before battling them. Rika’s really cool, Poppy I was NOT expecting, and I am thoroughly impressed by her existence, and Hassel- he’s this steely, stoic, professional dragon man with fire in his eyes… who bursts into big, blubbery tears when you defeat him because of how proud he is of how far you’ve come - which I find simultaneously a bit funny and like… genuinely heartwarming and wholesome.

So sorry its been a while, recovering from my injury and dealing with other life issues has really delayed me on the things I want to draw >.<

Okay so after seeing this old comic clip? my brain wouldn’t leave me alone about drawing this silly idea...even if the joke..probably doesn't work with this idea >.> but hey more practice drawing humans right!? Also i guess this would be considered a Meme redraw?

Anyway I’ll say it here, drawing Tulip the new psychic type gym was hard >.< I don’t like her, and I hope I never have to draw her again. I’ll draw Elesa and Otto any other day but not Tulip.

Also I had the fun of drawing some of the Pokemon Cafe food as I thought that would be a neat cameo food sort of thing to add here.

Anyway I hope this amuses some people even if the joke doesn't work >.<

Almost none of the gym leaders so far wear glasses. I count only three where I’m sure that they’re wearing glasses and probably need them for seeing: Blaine, Roark, and Clemont.

There are others who have glasses on top of their head but they either seem to be sun glasses (Brawly) or glasses for wind protection (Winona).

The ratio is better with the Elite Four, but that might just be because there’s far fewer Elite Four in total: Lucian, Shauntal, Malva, and Molayne (only in USUM). I have no idea if what Will is wearing are glasses or just a mask.

It really feels weird.

One of the things I'm most proud of is a bonding exercise I proposed to my friends.

And it's simple:

"If you were a gym leader in the Pokémon universe, what would your type specialty be? And what would you have as a gym?"

And it's really led to some really inspiring and awesome ideas.

Tulip and Grusha have a rivalry over who has more Instagram followers.

Tulip obviously gets a boost from having multiple social media accounts dedicated to her makeup brand to promote her Insta, but Grusha takes full advantage of the fact he's able to take his shirt off and as such his Instagram consists of 10% aesthetic photos from his daily mountain hikes and 90% shirtless post-workout pics, because you cannot convince me he's anything other than absolutely jacked.

Do you have any headcanons for tate and liza?

I actually really like Tate and Liza! By extension, I have A LOT of headcanons about them.

As of ORAS, they are 12 years old.

Their birthday is June 11.

Phoebe is their cousin, and their grandparents live on Mt. Pyre.

Though their telepathy is most powerful between each other, they can vaguely overhear other people's thoughts.

Their telepathy means that they learned about a lot of things before they should have.

They can also detect the heartbeats of other people from a fair distance away.

Their telepathy is weaker the further away they are, but they can always hear each other's thoughts.

They can also share pain.

Tate likes to follow the rules and tends to be more uptight.

Liza is more of a free spirit and laid back.

As they get older, their differences in personality become more and more pronounced.

They're pretty evenly matched, but Liza's powers are slightly stronger

They both can utilize telepathy and telekinesis, but they're not prophets or seers.

Even without his telepathy, Tate is a god at chess and go. He regularly beats adults.

It's said that the only person he's never beaten is Juan.

Liza has incredible DDR skills. She can beat any of the other gym leaders.

Tate also greatly enjoys meditation. Liza, not so much.

Their mother is an astrophysicist at the space center, and their father is a guardian of Mt. Pyre.

Since both of their parents are nearly constantly busy, they've become pretty good at fending for themselves.

That being said, prior to him moving to Sootopolis, Steven would often invite them to his house for dinner.

They don't appreciate that they're often seen more as a pair than individuals, but they understand why it happens.

After an incident when they were 16, Tate set up a psychic alarm system. Basically, when any of the gym leaders are in immediate danger, they can trip the alarm and it will telepathically notify all of the other gym leaders.

They grow more distant as they get older, and when they're 18, they get into a huge fight which results in Liza abandoning the gym.

Liza won the fight, but they both have scars from it.

Although it took him a while to get the hang of it, Tate does well managing the gym by himself.

Rumor has it Liza joined a gang in Lilycove.

Tate is Gay

Liza is Panromantic

I think either of them could be trans, but I don't have a solid headcanon for this one yet.

Currently, Tate is 145cm and Liza is 147cm

When they're adults, Tate is 170cm and Liza is 161cm.
