never actually finished ats before and while s5 has so far been markedly better than s4 im just so fuckin. like. apprehensive bc the vibes have been getting more and more depressed and cynical and i genuinely cant tell if its an intentional aspect of where the characters are all at (which i would love bc yes they are all Depressed esp Angel) or if its just the philosophy of the show that life fucking sucks (double if you're Gunn) (or any woman) which I would Not love bc it's just been so Fucked the past two seasons i need something good, anything good to come out of it

trying to get myself in the mood to finish slow down (you're doing fine) so here are some headcanons, technically fic-specific but can be read as casual, mostly about the icemav fam feels and bradley
-Whenever they would go out to things like fairs, museums, amusement parks, etc Mav and Bradley would be running around from place to place trying out every thing available with Ice trailing behind them. Bradley grows out of it and is now more trailing behind Jake, letting him choose where to go, whenever they go out somewhere
-Mav met Carole in his last group home in foster care, kept in contact after he aged out and he was the one who introduced her to Goose
-When Carole was still alive, she and Mav would teach Bradley how to play the piano - years later he turned out to be much better than both of them despite being mostly self-taught
-When Ice was stressed out, he would sit down and ask Mav or Bradley to play something for him
-Bradley actually has perfect pitch - he can name any note without the aid of a reference. this makes him incredibly sensitive to musical errors and things being out of tune. Despite that, Bradley was taught by his mom that music performed by loved ones always sounds better, no matter the actual performative value. Despite being a music teacher, Carole would never sing/play at home, always asking Mav or Bradley to do so for her, for the same reason.
-Years later, he realizes Jake has an absolutely terrible singing voice and no sense of rhythm. Despite that, he purposefully tells Jake his shower singing is annoying, knowing fully well Jake will keep doing it to annoy him more and he could keep on listening without being caught being sappy.
-This is also why he never taught Jake how to play piano - he knew it'd be an otherworldly experience and he was pretty sure he'd cry the first time Jake would be able to play the smallest of melodies on his own
-Mav was absolutely terrified that Bradley would end up like him - with a dead pilot for a dad, a sick mom who died before he made enough memories with her and then landing in foster care. In case something happened to Ice and Mav, they had plans C, D and E for Bradley's legal guardianship
-Ice and Mav argued about who would teach Bradley how to shave -- ended up doing it together
-Most admirals (and people who work with Ice in general) know that Bradley is his son, heard him gush about him throughout the years - from Bradley's high school musical roles, baseball matches to Bradley's scholarship and getting his wings and ending with Bradley winning TOPGUN
↑ Literally the proudest dad ever, it's adorable
-Ice hadn't liked a single boyfriend/girlfriend Bradley had and the jury's still out on Hangman
-Mav, on the other hand, hadn't been even aware that Bradley dated - he'd literally invited his high school girlfriend for family dinner and Mav had thought they were 'close friends' and when Ice told him about Hangman and Bradley moving in together after flight school (keeping tabs on Bradley during the no contact era), Mav didn't realize he meant together-together until Hangman told him years later
-Ice also has a photo from Bradley's winging ceremony in his office, standing in front of one of him and Mav and one of the three of them
-Mav absolutely teases him about it even though he literally once blocked up a queue in a grocery store to tell the cashier all about his naval aviator son who had a baseball scholarship and could play the piano after she asked if he has kids. Bradley was already over 25
-When they settled in for Bradley's high school years, they rented a house off-base so he could go to a better school than the ones around the base
-Phoenix is the first girl Bradley slept with and he was the first guy she had slept with. It happened during the beginning of flight school and they did it as friends.
-Bradley's homeroom teacher (who was also his drama club teacher) knew about Mav and Ice since Bradley's freshman year as they would sometimes both come to P-T meetings
-Ice started climbing ranks because he thought Bradley needed more stability and that way he would be able to stay home/in one place - he knew it would break Mav if he was the one to stop flying
-After Ice stopped being deployed, Slider became Mav's RIO for the few years he was still on active duty
-They would both take Bradley flying a lot but the first time when he was allowed to pilot was when he was 14, with Mav in the plane
-Ice would actually take Bradley on unauthorized flights in jets more often, just because he was smarter about it - when he didn't know how to make Bradley feel better, he would pack him in the F-14's backseat and fly
-Whenever the '86 class would meet, Ice and Mav usually would take Bradley with them since they didn't have anyone to leave him with most of the time, hence a twelve-year-old Bradley sitting in a bar late at night with about ten navy guys and goating them into bets over card games that Mav taught him how to cheat at
↑ that's also how Bradley learned to play pool
-Bradley didn't know they weren't married because they couldn't get married until he was 12 and was absolutely horrified when he found out gay marriage wasn't a thing
-Ice, while loving being Bradley's dad, struggled with not feeling guilty about it - legally, only Mav was his godfather, and he felt like he built his happiness (their family) on Bradley's tragedy

Been following Barrenclan since the initial generator video, but I've never sent an ask until now. But I felt like I had to now because this latest issue left me in shambles 🩵 (this IS a compliment, you are such an excellent writer)
Asphodelpaw was one of my favorites (especially because I'm also ace and it's just nice seeing that representation), so seeing her get killed by her own uncle is. OW. GOD. FUCK MAN. Tore all my heartstrings out. (I'm. Hoping with everyone else that she isn't dead, but considering Rainhaze was able to kill Dustfeather with a single hit and DF was fully grown, *and* that was *before* the Defiance lifestyle. Yeah. Yeah…)
But something occurred to me after I read and studied the last few pages. I remembered people speculating on Asphodel's potential death, and someone suggested that Asphodel might get in trouble for using friendly-friendly on something that was very *not* friendly. And I think in a way, that's exactly what happened.
Asphodelpaw saw her long-lost uncle and was of course overjoyed, asking him what happened, where he's been, etc. Being *friendly* with him because, why wouldn't you be? Everything her Clan's said about Rainhaze was super positive: he was a great hunter, a great friend, a great warrior.
You'd assume they'd be exactly the same, and especially in the euphoric haze of assuming they're *dead* and being *wrong.*
But he wasn't the same.
She was friendly-friendly with something that *wasn't* friendly. At least, not anymore…
That's not even going into how I think Rainhaze subconsciously picked his mom to kill because of how she treated Slugpelt and him (especially with those little past panels with him and his sister in this issue) and. God. GOD, this comic is so good.
Sorry for the super long ramble, I just love this comic immensely and I'm SO ready for all the shit to hit the fan (No I'm not, the end of the comic is going to destroy me). Take all the time you need to and don't forget to take breaks!
Don't apologize for talking at length about my comic! It's always welcome! Also, wow, thanks for following since the beginning! That's cool. And I really like your analysis on that idea! Rainhaze seems to bring out the talkative in people.

how are you finding ffxiv btw? curious to hear what you think of it so far if youre open to sharing!
i wrote up some early impressions here! tl;dr, it's got me good. the people who said i'd like it were absolutely right. i'm enjoying talking about it, so have some more
it's funny to see how many of the game's incidental quests follow the "you look like an adventurer" format. "you look like an adventurer, go save my cat from that tree," "you look like an adventurer, bring me a blue flower with red thorns," etc. it's a format i've been banned from using at my job - our narrative policy is that it feels gamey, and questgivers should always have a deeper reason to solicit the player specifically. that said, even the starting cities have a dizzying amount of sidequests, and you can't afford to be precious when you're writing at that scale. hat tip to the writers for having to come up with it all!
i mean, really, it blows my mind how much there is to do. i worried that i was chewing through the ARR story too quickly, but my friends keep saying this is only the beginning? omg
i find myself chasing a kind of roleplay that i haven't before: one that revolves around the game's time-of-day system. since cutscenes [in general - i guess some are forced] match the current weather and light, i've been scheduling cutscenes around what seems most cinematic or plot-appropriate. i waited until nightfall to do the greenbliss festival and hear the grand company speeches to make them more solemn. by coincidence, i fought foulques during a downpour, and it felt so much more dramatic. so did crossing thanalan at nigh noon. you know that bad thing that happens at the waking sands? i trudged all the way to the church alone in the dead of midnight afterward. now that's kino!!
oh yeah, those veteran friends i mentioned earlier? they're obsessed with which eligible bachelor i'll attach my character to. i'm so flattered. how can you not be. getting ubereats deliveries of "yeah, this one is a miserable bastard, you might like him." i'm told that the game implicitly encourages this sort of thing by stressing how much your player means to the major characters. no wonder you've all been having so much fun over here
i made some rookie mistakes in the character creator, so no screenshots yet ): thank goodness you get a free fantasia eventually
i have more details cooking, though. i see her as a fallen dragoon who thought she'd failed at being a hero and has been given a second chance. starting in gridania was less a "newbie lancer" thing and more a kurosawa "stranger comes to town and solves its problems by the sword" thing. she's also been forged-in-battle friends with raubahn for many years, and i've heard he gets a lot of story, so i'm looking forward to that.
don't worry, i've been forearmed about what happens-

If you were to write a Frankenstein episode* of doctor who, how would you do it?
*episode here includes radio plays etc. Your choice of doctor, companions, and format
(Also there probably has been a Frankenstein episode of doctor who at some point that I'm not aware of so please also include your opinion on it if you so wish!)
SO
I would not be surprised in the slightest if there’s something in the Doctor Who verse with the plot of “guy puts together dead body parts to bring a creature to life”, but if it’s out there it’s not one I’ve encountered I don’t think.
The Doctor has met Mary Shelley a minimum of twice (TARDISWiki assures me there are more), both of which happen on the same series of nights funnily enough, the ones where Frankenstein got written. The Haunting of Villa Diodati is a Thirteenth Doctor episode in which the inspiration for Frankenstein’s Creature is made to be a Cyberman. The Company of Friends (Mary’s Story) is an Eighth Doctor audio where the inspiration for the Creature is this time the Doctor himself. Both are very good episodes! Haunting has a fucked up house, Thirteen getting a moment of rage and loneliness, and one hell of an ending shot; Mary’s Story has time travel shenanigans and unethical science being performed on Eight.
Neither of these are Frankenstein adaptations though. They get a bit Frankenstein-y around the edges, because you would, if you in the present day was writing a story featuring Mary Shelley, but the focus is always more on the ghosts/Cybermen/Doctor/Percy Shelley wanting to electrocute Eight. We can do more than that, in a move I’m going to call
Jodie Whittaker Is A Strong Actor And Thirteen Doesn’t Have To Always Be Cheerful.
It’s set vaguely around the events of The Timeless Children, definitely before Flux, and the main purpose is to give us a moment to let the RevealTM settle in, before half the universe gets destroyed (more on that later). The Timeless Child was a move which has made a lot of different people have a lot of different opinions! Personally I think it was Fine and Not That Awful and will probably get forgotten about and retconned in a few years anyway (also as a noted Doctor “I’m half human on my mother’s side” Who TV Movie fan I am in no position to complain about plot twists that upend canon as we know it or whatever), but I do think we can use it to make Thirteen worse. Both Timeless Children and Flux (and maybe Power of the Doctor)  would be slightly different, mostly with the Division being gone, but also I haven't re-watched either since they were broadcast and don’t remember every plot beat, so adjust them in your mind as necessary
ANYWAY
What this isn’t is a “guy goes to uni, drops out of uni, makes another guy, has life ruined by that guy” adaptation. What it is is a “can you imagine if you were the creature and you were given life only to be abandoned and hated by both your creator and also most of the universe I think that’d suck” type story.
We open with the Doctor waking on an autopsy table. No bindings hold her down, but she has no coat, no sonic screwdriver, and no memory of how she ended up here. The laboratory setting around her is unfamiliar but appears to have been abandoned in a hurry - papers left out, computers not shut down, smashed glass and split liquids.
Slowly, she begins to explore. It starts inconsequential enough - there’s a hat stand with a dark coat hanging on it. She puts it on, has a look in the mirror to the side, it fits! It looks good!
We will, though, start to put together what’s going on here: creating bodies; life after death ("Oh Mary," she says, "you'd love this one!"); experiments on people, or maybe only the one person. Regeneration. The Timeless Child.
The realisation has a physical force behind it. This is the place Tecteun took the Timeless Child apart to learn the secrets of regeneration, and put them back together to make the Doctor.
I have made the executive decision to equate Thirteen and Frankenstein’s Creature
They are both alone, made by a parent-creator-god and abandoned when they’d served their use. They are both a bit fucked up. They both deserve better!
Back to the mirror, smashed now, though we never heard nor saw anything happen to it. Thirteen sees herself again… but not quite herself. In every shard is a different face, all reflected back at her, reflected back twisted and shattered. Bitterest sensations of despondence and mortification indeed.
HYPOCRITE SIDEBAR Thirteen is a hypocrite! The Doctor has always been a bit of a hypocrite, it comes from being a 60 year old character written by hundreds of different people, but Thirteen especially is a hypocrite. No guns, but she’d let the spiders suffocate and die. A flat team structure, until she needs to be at the top. This is slightly related to what I'm about to say I'm also just saying it
She speaks to herselves then, in a move that’s a bit more metaphorical than what will happen in Power of the Doctor, but will lead into that. It’s a “I never told anyone my name, I never ate pears, I don’t know if I always managed to be kind but I tried to do my best.” type confrontation. A “was I too cruel? Too cowardly? Did I run too far to return to a beginning they hid from me?”
Jodie Whittaker did Antigone one time I think. Thirteen can have a brief flash of rage, all this advice from her past selves none of them could have seen this one coming, an “in this desolation I am alone, what would you have me do?” that could be fun
The Guardians of the Edge (1/5/6/7/8) will assure her she's doing fine, in time. For now, she is alone, and there's no-one to allay the doubt.
A computer beeps a warning. Flux deployment a success, warning, en route to your location.
We might reasonably assume this is a bomb, or missile, or something, programmed by Tecteun to destroy all evidence of what they did here. The Doctor certainly does, jumping into action to try and determine what this Flux is and how to stop it. (Her sonic screwdriver is in her pocket now. It definitely wasn't there earlier)
And then, she slows. Stops. Thinks.
Would it be so bad, to see all of this destroyed? (You may think this sounds a lot like the Master, and you’d be right. We’re laying the groundwork for the better Power of the Doctor that exists in my mind, where the Master and the Doctor do a Proper full body swap and perhaps they’re not always as different as they think)
It’s not like there’s anyone else here, she tries to justify. It’s not like she cares if Tecteun loses all this work. It’s not like she doesn’t want it to all burn down, just this once. (We are reminded of Ten, who doesn’t kill the Racnoss in The Runaway Bride because Donna stops him. Eight, in Terror Firma, wanting to unleash Davros’ death virus and only stopping because his friends could remind him of who he was. The War Doctor, preparing to use the Moment. We are reminded that Thirteen is alone)
Maybe the Doctor does a half hearted search through some documents for any sign that might sway her (Oh! My creator, make me happy; let me feel gratitude towards you for one benefit etc) and maybe there was never going to be anything to change her mind.
“I tried to inspire love,” she says. She doesn't finish the line.
(“Oh Mary,” she’ll go and mutter under her breath. “What'd you make of that one?”)
The clock is still ticking, alarms getting more urgent. The Doctor legs it to the exit - we don’t have time to wonder at how the lab has fallen apart even more, mould crawling over the ceilings and a lightshow of sparking, dying, machines. She reaches the door, throws it open-
Through it, space.
Thirteen looks behind her, frowns, looks back. We zoom out, see the TARDIS hanging in the void, the Doctor leaning out the doorway.
The alarm is still beeping, the Flux, and we know, now, that it's nothing so simple as an explosive, still approaching. The agony of the torturing flames.
Something terrible is coming.

max's top books of 2023 :3c
as usual, these rankings are based on some arcane mix of objective quality + my personal enjoyment (previous year's lists)
it was another weird reading year! i did a lot of reading for school, more so than in the past; some of it was really good and some of it was, uh. well, some of it was william wordsworth. nothing i absolutely loathed, though (most of the reads i disliked were books i could at least appreciate on an art/history level), which is cool. so i'm bringing back the runner-up category. did not make it onto my top ten list but were really good anyway: beartown by fredrik backman (books that no joke made me understand why people are insane about sports) and the GORGEOUS re-release of my dear @yvesdot 's debut, something's not right, which i have read before but will always gladly revisit again.
my top anticipated release for 2024 is alecto the ninth again.
(but shoutout also to just happy to be here, king cheer, and henry henry. trans people! shakespeare, even!)
and the list! in increasing order of enjoyment, with pictures this year!
Tumblr media
10. The Common Liar by Janet Adelman
no, i can't believe i'm doing this either. i can't believe i did all that preamble and the first book on my list is an academic thesis analyzing shakespeare's antony and cleopatra. but also? it's the only book anyone ever needs to write about shakespeare's antony and cleopatra. janet adelman said it all. which is cool, because i have a fixation on that play, but also sucks, because i was also trying to write an essay on it and mine wasn't nearly as good. btw if anyone wants to buy this for me, somehow, for the $120 it costs on amazon because academia is awful, i will send you my address,
Tumblr media
9. Robert Icke's Oresteia
i don't need to say anything about this play, because it's the source of "this was always going to happen. she's been dead since the beginning." that should be enough. but after becoming deranged about the oresteia last year, i finally read this, and holy shit, this adaptation of the story is so fucking genius and icke's writing is so fucking good. it's antiwar! it's about mental illness! there's gender! the fucking ENDING! (i have a pdf if anyone would like it. anything to plug this play bark bark bark rufrufruf grrrrrr)
Tumblr media
8. Down Girl: the Logic of Misogyny by Kate Manne
this is a little bit cheating, because i haven't finished this book yet, so maybe in the final chapters manne will say something like "what if we blew up every orphan" and i'll have to retract this. but right now it's fucking excellent! i've been making an effort to read more nonfiction lately, and this one shines; manne sets out to analyze misogyny not as a personal hatred of women that some men harbor, but as an intricate and structural system forcing women into the role of Giving (attention, affection, power, etc; sometimes their lives). and it's sooooo smart. some of it is stuff i already know (and some of it is Academic Philosophy TM that goes right over my head), but manne articulates her point excellently and i can feel it rearranging my brain, so it's going on the list for longevity and skill!
Tumblr media
7. Dictator by Robert Harris
does this book objectively deserve to be on this list? you know what, yeah. i'll say it with my whole chest. i don't like how harris writes women and there are plenty of things to pick at in his cicero trilogy, but i had so much goddamn fun reading it that i can't not put it on the list. this was my year of being really really into cicero, and this was fun to read alongside e-pistulae. harris is sooooo good at making ancient roman politics gripping. the last scenes of this book. augh. ack. ough!
Tumblr media
6. Detransition Baby by Torrey Peters
there are a lot of valid critiques of this one (a lot of bad critiqus, too, but such is writing literally anything about transness), but i fucking adored it. i LOVE dual timelines, i LOVE unlikable characters, and i FUCKING LOVE TRANSSEXUALITY! moreover, i love that peters isn't afraid to Go There, to poke at the messy ugly sides of transness (and queerness in general) that i think a lot of us don't like acknowledging, especially to cishet people whose view of the community is already skewed. i don’t think this is the One Great Trans Novel; i think there are a lot of great trans novels, and we need more. but this one did hit me RIGHT in the chest, and i couldn't put it down.
Tumblr media
5. Wrath Goddess Sing by Maya Deane
the iliad but achilles is a trans woman and she's fighting the war on both mortal and divine levels and she and helen have an insane homoerotic half-god rivalry and everybody is fucking crazy. pitched as "for fans of TSOA" but as i said in my review if TSOA is a pleasant but watery iced tea then this book is gasoline laced with crack. there is a bisexual transgender threesome. i fucking love women. book of the fucking summer
Tumblr media
4. White Teeth by Zadie Smith
i probably enjoyed wrath goddess sing more, but i can't not rank this book highly on this list. this book is such a fucking masterpiece. it's tolstoy for the modern age. it's a sprawling multi-familial multi-cultural multi-generational epic about race and gender and religion and science and humanity and britishness. smith's prose is fucking amazing; her character work is even better; this book has no plot but it uses its length sooooooo well. the first zadie smith i've read, but by god there will be more. she wrote this at TWENTY-FIVE. that's fucking CRAZY. do you know how much control over your craft you have to have to write this at twenty-five. bonkers. it is also the only enjoyable book i read in my modern literature class, so shoutout to white teeth for keeping me sane,
Tumblr media
3. The Secret to Superhuman Strength by Alison Bechdel
this book is ostensibly about bechdel's relationship with exercise. it is actually about bechdel's relationship with her own body, her own soul, her desire for individualism in the style of the transcendentalists, transcendentalism in general, mortality, and aging. i can't really tell you more than that because i didn't actually "read" this so much as i absorbed it through my skin like a frog while trying not to tremble like a little purse dog. i am not gonna lie man i did not have a very good. um. august. or september. or october november december. so this book really could not have come at a better time. alison bechdel i am obsessed with you
Tumblr media
2. The Essential Dykes to Watch Out For by Alison Bechdel
ALISON BECHDEL I AM OBSESSED WITH YOU!!!! this one narrowly edges out secret to superhuman strength because... well, i'm sort of rating the entire comic strip's run, and dude. holy shit. i love lesbians so much. this strip is such an important piece of lesbian history; it reminded me that a lot of the things lesbians (and LGBT people in general) argue about and deal with today are... the same things we've always argued about and dealt with, from intracommunity label discourse to global politics to hitting on women badly. but history aside--it's also just really fucking good! it's really funny! if you are a neurotic leftist, as so many of us are, it's hysterical! it's smart! it's hot! it's heartwarming! i read it over the first half of the year, in little bits and pieces, and by the end i felt like i really had gone decades with these characters. really just. so good. the power she has the range she has
Tumblr media
1. the suzanne collins reread
okay. this one is definitely cheating. because i usually like to keep this list to books i'm reading for the first time, and i HAVE read the hunger games and the underland chronicles. but i read them, like, almost ten years ago, and i was not prepared to be so thoroughly fucking bodied by them this time around, now that i have critical thinking and analysis skills. we all know the hunger games is a fucking banger, so let me pitch the gregor the overlander series: something of a modern alice in wonderland setup, where the eleven-year-old main character falls into an underground world full of strangeness, except this world isn't whimsical, it's dangerous and stuffed with giant talking animals like bats and rats and cockroaches. there's a war on. there are plagues. there are war crimes. there is a plotline that is extremely explicitly about ethnic cleansing. there is some of the most heartbreaking fucking shit you've ever read in your goddamn life. there is also a rat who quotes macbeth and the underlanders revere a guy named bartholomew of sandwich. this series is for middle schoolers. i cried. not when i was a middle schooler reading it the first time; i mean now. so i'm breaking my no-rereads rule, because it really would be a lie to say that my best reading experience wasn't revisiting all of collins' work with my friends (yes, i read TBSOS; i think it's fine but not great). sorry to give publicity to an author who definitely doesn't need my help, but a few years ago my #1 spot went to shakespeare, so.
if you've read this far: thank you! please tell me your thoughts! tell me your favorite books of 2023! tell me which books you're excited for in 2024! and have a very lovely new year :)

12 Days of Christmas Masterlist
main masterlist
Y/N woke up screaming.
She woke up screaming most nights, which is why she sacrificed extra money to live on her own, why she almost ruined her friendship with Peggy because she couldn't accept the offer of living with her. It's why she was terrified to spend the night with her boyfriend, Jack. There had been countless nights over the nine months where she had caught herself almost asleep, about to spend the night, before she realized what the hell was happening and left, despite Jack's protests.
"I can sleep in the other room,"
He thought it was about modesty.
She always made up excuses to leave, kissing him as passionately as she dared to try and assuage his mind. It didn't change the fact that at the end of the day, she was terrified that she was going to have one of those stupid nightmares and wake up screaming, and man would that scare Jack off.
She knew everyone had nightmares. But not everyone had these kinds of nightmares.
"You're not coming with me!" Steve yelled at her. They were in the plane on the way to rescue Bucky and the rest of the POWs Hydra had taken. Bucky's family had taken Y/N in when she was young, her father having never been around and her mother dying from some sort of illness.
"Bucky is my brother! I'm not leaving him!" She knew he would never leave her, would never give up if it had been her in his place.
"You're not apart of this!" Steve shook his head at her, and she frowned.
"Just because I'm not in the army doesn't meant that I can't help!" She cried. "I've been with you guys since the beginning! I'm just as much apart of this as you!" Steve wasn't hearing it.
In real life, she had grabbed a parachute and jumped out of the plane after Steve. In real life she had snuck into the compound quickly. In real life, she went straight to Bucky while Steve was left behind fighting. Her dream showed none of this. Her subconscious didn't care.
"Bucky! Oh my God!" She screamed, going to his side. He barely moved his head, and was quickly trying to free him.
"Y/N?" He muttered, voice hoarse and body pale.
"What did they do to you?" She questioned, still trying to free the restraints.
"You have to go," He said as she got one arm done. He sat up, grabbing her hand. "Please, they're coming," He begged, but she wasn't listening.
"Steve's taking care of it, don't worry-"
In her dream, every night, they shoot Bucky. In her dream, they take her and do unspeakable things.
In real life Bucky wasn't shot, just electrocuted. In real life, she was knocked out quickly. In real life, she was barely conscious when these things happened. In real life, she can only remember these things happening when she goes to sleep.
In her dream she is vividly living through it.
Sometimes she wakes up when they shoot Bucky. She wakes up and has to remind herself that Steve was successful a few months later. That they only had Y/N for half the time they had Bucky, that Bucky didn't die there, he died later on and now Steve is dead and-
It usually doesn't work.
She knows Hydra did experiments on her. She's still finding out about those.
~
"Good morning," Peggy smiles as Y/N steps into the office, putting her things down on her desk. They both know that the only reason they are the only two girls in the office is because the government felt bad about the damage that wreaked havoc on their lives.
Welcome to the 40s.
"Good morning," Y/N tried to be smiley, but she wasn't getting enough sleep to do this over and over again everyday.
There was no way she could tell people what she was going through. No one would understand.
"Jack came in a couple minutes ago, went straight to the back. He seems to be a bit on the wrong side this morning." Peggy was still smiling, but this information made Y/N want to scream.
Of course Jack was upset this morning. The fight they had gotten into at three A.M. was definitely responsible for that.
"What happened?" Peggy asked, mood immediately shifting as she took in the look on her best friend's face. Peggy was insanely good at reading people, and after all that the two had gone through she could read Y/N like a book.
"Well," Y/N briefly thought about lying, but one look at her best friend's face told her she had to tell the truth. "It's a long story." She tired, but Peggy just glared.
"It's a good thing our desks are right next to each other, isn't it?" Peggy questioned, already prepared for that answer. Y/N nodded, taking her spot across from Peggy.
"Jack wanted me to spend the night last night, since it was so late. And as much as I want to, there's just too much going on right now." Y/N tried not to think of the look on Jack's face when she had slipped up, when her eyes went red and her hands began to glow.
He was terrified.
"That's not a long story." Peggy commented as she began to go through the paperwork stacked on her desk. Y/N took a deep breath and avoided Peggy's eyes.
"I'm having nightmares." Maybe if she told part of the truth, Peggy would let her off the hook.
"You've had nightmares since you met Jack. What else is going on?" She looked at Y/N then, squinting as if she were trying to preform an X-Ray with her naked eyes. "Are you," She led off, eyes briefly trailing to Y/N's midsection.
"No!" She shrieked, probably too loudly, because the other men turned to stare. "It's not that." Y/N looked down at her hands, the ones that had started to glow. The ones that scared Jack.
She never wanted to hurt Jack. She knew he would never hurt her, that he would try and kill anyone for putting their hands on her, but she never thought she would see the look of fear in his eyes when he looked at her.
"Then what is it?" Peggy asked, still going through the papers. Y/N began to copy the motion, hoping that if she were doing something normal this next part would seem better somehow.
"Do you remember when I was captured by Hydra?" Y/N asked. Of course she knew Peggy remembered. They both knew that even though they never talked about what happened over the war, they remembered every detail.
"Yes," Peggy answered, slowing her work. She knew that what Y/N was about to say was important, much more important than nightmares.
"They were trying to recreate the serum. They tested it on Bucky, but we never found out if it actually worked." She took a deep breath, because she was about to drop a truth that she probably should have told Peggy, and Steve, when she was first rescued. "They tested it on me too."
She had whispered the words, but she knew Peggy heard them. Even as she was silent, Y/N knew the sentence had gotten across.
"I'm sorry," She whispered, sounding confused. "I'm not sure I understand. You were tested on by Hydra?"
"From what I remember." Y/N answered, not looking at her friend.
"Why didn't you tell us?" The us in that situation was clear, and Y/N tried to block out the fact that half of that group was dead.
"One of you already knew." Y/N tried to be funny, but it was clear it didn't land.
"Why are you telling me this now?" Peggy tried not to sound brash, but she was confused as to why Y/N was bringing this up now, when she was supposed to be talking about the fight with Jack.
"Something has been happening." Y/N closed her eyes, no longer feeling the need to pretend she was doing work. "It started when the nightmares got worse, and then there was a tingling in my hands." She looked down, willing the red power to come to the surface just a bit. She lifted a hand to show it, pulling it back once Peggy saw. Her eyes widened, and Y/N couldn't look at her anymore.
"Y/N,"
"I don't know what's happening to me." She whispered, tears in her eyes. "And last night, Jack was upset that I couldn't stay the night. I started to tell him about the nightmares, but I got too emotional and it happened." She took a deep breath, looking up and away.
"What did he do?" She asked, and Y/N just shook her head.
"He was terrified." She shrugged, as if that were the obvious answer. Her throat was closing with emotion and her eyes were beginning to well with tears.
"Of you?" Peggy asked, because she was sure there was no way Jack actually was scared of Y/N. She had seen the way he looked at her, like she was the only person in the world. Peggy would have never thought that Jack would even think about being afraid of Y/N in any way.
"Yes. And who wouldn't be?" Y/N got up, not able to stay at her desk any longer.
"Are you sure that he was afraid of you?" Peggy questioned, sure that Y/N must've been mistaken.
"What else would it have been?" Y/N asked. Peggy didn't have the answer, but soon the Chief was coming over anyway. They had to end the conversation quickly, but one look from Peggy told Y/N this wasn't going away.
"I need you two to go on a stakeout." He had said, and Y/N just stared, waiting for the rest of that assignment. "We need more information about one of the targets. Here's the file, read in the car." He dropped the file on Y/N's desk, and she just nodded, watching the chief walk back to his office.
"Looks like we're going out today."
~
"Where's Y/N?" Jack had asked when he had finally gotten out the the interrogation the Chief had made him do. He had gotten to the office early in the morning, hoping to catch when Y/N had come in. He desperately needed to talk to her, but he knew better than to follow her home last night.
"Why, did you not get enough last night?" One of the guys asked, and Jack rolled his eyes. Him and Y/N had tried to keep their relationship a secret, but it was obvious after awhile. Although they weren't big on PDA, the boys still loved to give Jack shit.
"I know you want to live vicariously through me, Jenkins, so I regret to inform you that I actually need to talk to her." Jack shot back, not in the mood for a witty comeback.
"Chief sent her and Peggy on a stakeout." Daniel told Jack, knowing that his friend was going to be pissed.
"Where?" Jack was packing his stuff when the Chief came out.
"You're not going anywhere, butterfly boy." Jack tried not to show his anger at the nickname. "You didn't finish your paperwork." He nodded to the papers on Jack's desk.
"You only told me to do the interrogation." Jack said, knowing that everyone was watching now. "You don't understand, I seriously need to talk-"
"I don't care," Chief Dooley admitted, making Jack have to take a deep breath. "You're at work, Thompson. You can talk to your girlfriend later." Everyone went back to their own work with a couple chuckles, and Jack walked to his desk, trying to forget about his personal problems.
"Why do you need to talk to Y/N so bad?" Daniel asked as he walked over to Jack's desk. The two had gotten closer more recently, and although he knew he shouldn't ask, he wanted to be a good friend.
"We got in an argument last night, and I did something I shouldn't have." Jack knew that it was miscommunication, that the look of fear he displayed was not received in the way he meant it.
He wasn't afraid for himself. He was concerned for Y/N. It was clear she wasn't okay, that she was terrified, and he would do anything to take that away from her. He wasn't afraid of her. He was afraid for her.
But of course he couldn't tell Daniel about that.
"And that's urgent?" Daniel didn't want to be rude, it just came out. He had never heard that the couple had gotten into an argument that couldn't wait before - they always put work first and figured their own problems out later.
"It's complicated." Jack muttered, starting the paperwork.
"Sounds like it." Jack closed his eyes and cracked his neck, trying not to take a jab at Daniel.
"How's Peggy?" He asked instead of saying something he knew he would regret.
"Ha ha." Daniel rolled his eyes and walked away, knowing he wasn't getting the full story.
Jack needed to talk to Y/N. He had to explain.
~
"This is a fool's work." Peggy complained as they sat outside of the cafe. They were waiting to see Michael Carlye come out of the office, because as soon as he did they were to grab a file from his desk and leave.
"Well, at least it gives us something to do." Y/N muttered as she took a sip of her drink.
"Maybe you should talk to Jack." Peggy offered, staring at the door still.
"Oh yeah, I'm sure that terrified look on his face really meant 'I want to talk all about this.'" Y/N didn't wait for Peggy's response, because all the sudden Michael was walking out of the building, whistling and not even knowing that the SSR was out for him.
Wordlessly, the two got up, leaving their drinks and a couple dollars before walking across the street.
"Let's do this quickly," Peggy grumbled as they slid right by security. The only perk of being a woman in the 40s - no one suspects shit.
"What were you saying about quick?" Y/N teased as they waltzed right into the unlocked office. "I can't believe he just keeps this shit out like that." She said, grabbing the file out of the first drawer in his desk. "I mean seriously, this guy is," She trailed off as she heard Peggy whipping out her gun, turning to see a man in the doorway with a pistol pointing toward them.
"Drop the file, and I'll pretend I never saw you." The man said with a gross sneer.
"Drop the gun and I won't shoot you." Peggy fired back, gun steady in her hands.
"That wasn't an option." The man said. Just as he shot, Y/N dropped the file and put her hands up, not even thinking as she stopped the bullet just before it hit Peggy.
"Shit," Y/N whispered, not even sure how she had done it. "What do I do?" Just as she had asked Peggy, the man tried to turn around and yell, but Y/N shot out her other hand and pulled the door shut.
"What are you?" The man screamed, and Y/N just blinked, not sure how to answer that.
"What do I do?" She asked Peggy again. They knew it was only a matter of time before someone came and tried to see what the commotion was.
"We have to run!" Peggy said, but she was still holding the gun up.
"He knows!" Y/N cried, dropping the bullet. There was no way to spin the tale of her stopping a bullet midair.
"You're the only one that knows," Peggy walked forward, standing in front of Y/N. "So if this gets out, I will find you, and we will ruin your life." The girls heard shouting and they knew their time was up.
"Out the window." Y/N instructed, using her new found magic to flip up the window and was jumping out. Peggy jumped out as well, and just as she was about to shut the door Y/N remember the file. She quickly reached out with her magic and grabbed it, sliding it through the window as Peggy shut it.
"What a nice office view." Y/N said, realizing they were a foot away from a narrow alley.
"Back to the office?" Peggy offered, slipping into the alley.
"Do we have to?" Y/N asked, knowing what was waiting at the office.
"Well," Peggy started, but they heard yelling from behind them. The girls turned to see some men coming at them, the dumbs who tried to shoot them in the front leading the group.
"Shit," Y/N muttered, because they were trapped. She could use her powers, but she didn't know exactly what that would entail.
"You have to do something," Peggy muttered, because they were very out numbered.
"I don't know what I can do." Y/N admitted, but when the first gunshot went off she caught it, anger beginning to boil in her veins. Without thinking, going based off her rage, she pushed her other hand toward the group and let herself explode. The two girls watched as the men blinked before opening their eyes, pupils red.
"What did you do?" Peggy asked, walking toward them.
"No idea." Y/N ran past them, not sure how long the men would be out.
~
"She's here." Daniel muttered as he walked past Jack's desk, trying not to laugh as Jack practically fell out of his chair trying to turn around. He got up and quickly walked over to her, feeling bad for thanking God that she was looking for the Chief and not looking at him.
"Y/N," He called when she was close enough that he knew she wouldn't run. He watched her eyes widen as she turned to him. He was about to speak when he realized she was close to tears.
"Jack, I'm so sorry," She started, moving her hand to grab his arm but then aborting the motion, looking in his eyes for fear.
"What happened?" He asked, looking over to Peggy, who had a barely contained look of shock and something else that Jack didn't have the time for right now. "Why are you sorry?" That got her to stop in her tracks. Peggy continued on, probably to debrief the Chief. Y/N was thankful they had thought of their alibi in the car.
"What do you mean?" She looked genuinely confused and slightly scared, and Jack grabbed her hand and walked her to an interrogation room for privacy. "Jack, I'm so sorry, I-"
"For what?" He asked again, confused was to why Y/N was apologizing. He was the one that needed to apologize.
"Everything," A couple tears fell down her cheeks and she quickly wiped her cheeks, not looking at him.
"Sweetheart," Jack tried to smile to somehow make Y/N feel better. "I need to apologize." He admitted, putting his hands on her face and pulling her face up to make her look at him.
"It's all my fault," She said as way of explanation, causing Jack to just shake his head. "I didn't know-"
"Y/N," Jack grabbed her hand, pulling her close and trying to get her to calm down. "I wasn't afraid of whatever is going on," He cringed at his word choice.
"That's the problem; I don't know what's going on." She whispered, sounding unhinged. Jack understood why, but he was fighting not to tale a step back. Y/N would never hurt him - he knew this. He trusted her.
"We can figure it out, I promise." He put a hand on her cheek, trying to figure out the best way to comfort her. "Whatever is going on, I'll be here." He hoped she believed him, because he knew he meant it.
"Right," She smiled, but it didn't seem full. "About, um, that," She looked toward the door, knowing that right now Peggy was telling the Chief all about their fake story.
"We'll work on it." Jack smirked, reading her mind. She nodded, tilting her head up and letting him press his lips to hers.

Everybody's Falling Love And I'm Falling Behind~
Hey guys, haven't posted in awhile. Been busy with school, starting the new school year.
This is what someone requested but they just wanted an Tanjiro x reader but I gave it my own plot line.
Yes this is based off a song I'll put the link at the end of the story :>
This may be split up into multiple parts
Begins...1...2...3...Now
........................................
Origin
You have always been a respectful child, doing your housework, making sure you have proper manners, etc. You were the only child of the L/n family after all.
The L/n family is extremely wealthy and respected. They have high standards for their child and the people who work for them. Y/n was assigned a fiance at the age of 12, her fiance was from another wealthy family who had a partnership and agreed for their children to get married.
Yet, even though you respected your parents' wishes, you did not love this man you had to marry. In fact, you have never really loved anyone. Maybe a few crushes when you were little but never love.
As you became unhappy during the preparations for the future wedding, you began to feel empty inside as i your feelings did not matter.
One day you were walking the halls of your Fiance's estate, and you could hear him chatting with another lady. Curious, you decided to go through the door and talk to your soon-to-be husband.
As you opened and stepped foot into the room, you saw him cheating on you with this young girl. This made you sick to the stomach, not because he cheated on you, but because he was doing this with a 23 year old.
You ran out of the room, as your fiance tried calling you back to his room. And ran to the Office where your Father and his were discussing business.
You tried explaining to your father what had happened, but he just would not listen. That very night you asked one of your trustworthy maids to help you pack as that moonlit night you ran away.
..........................................
Time skip - ???
Since you ran away from home, not long were you lost, tired, and on the verge of death. When a lady, no older than her 30's, saw you and took you to her small house.
Her name was Kuriya, and she was a tailor, who helped people try and fit clothes on. Even though with her stern and annoyed expression she was a kind-hearted lady who helped you when you were fading from the earth.
She fed you, took care of you. Just like a mother. You became attached to this Stranger and you both had faced the icy winter to the lukewarm autumns. By the time you were 13, you had everything you could ask for. A loving guardian. That all changed one winter.
You came home one day finding Kuriya on the floor looking ill. When you went to check on her she was already dead. With no way to make any money. You abandoned the house walking down the streets when you heard people shouting.
There you saw a woman and a young man. The Woman was hurting the man and accusing him of breaking a vase. Then a boy with burgundy hair told the lady that the vase was broken by an animal, more specifically, a cat. The boy left. And you decided to follow him.
You followed the boy, interested in how he knew that it was a cat. You were lost in a daydream when you snapped back into reality. Where did the boy go? He had touched your shoulder and you jumped in a slight.
He wanted to know what you were doing following him. You explained to him how you just wanted to know more about the scene that happened a while back. He understood and introduced himself and said he was Tanjiro and that he has a super sharp nose.
You then introduced yourself and asked him if you could stay with him for a while. He happily agreed and you both set off up the mountain.
When you both were halfway up a man from living there stopped you from going further. Saying stuff about demons and how we should hurry inside. After a bit of fussing you and Tanjiro went to sleep.
Taisho Era secrets:
Did you know Y/n knows Marital Arts?
She is a very strong Lady, Y/n can lift x60 the amount of a man can, Y/n tries not to show it because it was 'un-lady-like' when she was little. But once in a while, she trains just in case she might bump into a weirdo on the street.
The reason why she knows Marital Arts is because her personal bodyguard helps her train against her father's and mother's wishes.
Hope you enjoyed part one!!

THE afternoon sun bathed down on the buildings that sat up upon the hills looking down onto the Kamo River, paths alongside. The blue sky above was dotted with fluffy white clouds that drifted in the gentle breeze above the city of Kyoto. Tourists and locals alike were out and about- many walking, cycling, and or relaxing on the banks of the river. Two girls in specific had gotten up early to begin their long walk to see different temples and end up sitting on a tiny hill where rocks went down to meet the water. They were enjoying their trip and no school, giggling about recent social media posts, etc.
It had been five days since they were attacked by a curse. Four days since Keiko was given the choice to join Jujutsu High. Three days since Aki's Grandma took the two to Kyoto. The friends didn't know how to talk about what happened that afternoon, when they saw each other for the first time after they just laid in Aki's bed watching television. No words could describe the schock and how they were trying to come to terms with how fast it happened.
Keiko's long black hair continued to whip into her hair as each time she'd laugh annoyed trying to tame it. Finally, she used a hairtie from her wrist to put it back; which she hated low ponytails. Aki was glued to her phone searching up things for them to do, where to shop, and pictures of Kyoto in other seasons.
"I wish we could come back in the spring, look at these pictures of when the cherry blossoms are fully blooming." Aki showed her the phone, where it showed pretty pink blossoms adorning the trees, sky and ground.
Keiko glanced around and back to the picture, she could only imagine how majestic it would be to experience that in real like than a picture. Few months earlier and they would be, "wow.. I mean we can during uni, we’ll have much more time.. hopefully."
"That's a great idea, I can’t wait."
"Let’s just pray rumors of uni being easier than high school are true."
"I know! Sort of an oversight there in my opinion to make high school more demanding." Keiko laughed, "I can't believe that's coming up... we’ve worked so hard."
"Don't even wanna think about it! Parents started getting all emotional lately." Aki groaned, "too much work, let's just not go. Convince your parents to let us mooch off them forever."
"I wish! But hey, if we hate University of Tyoko we can just transfer here." she thought back to Aki's grandma forcing them to do a small tour to get the girls thinking about university, "it's too close to home really.”
"Not like we knew your parents would suddenly let you leave town months after we decided.. though the six hours to get here was pretty lengthy.”
"I knowww but probably because we didn’t take the train." Keiko poked her.
"Ah true, but hey we really lucked out getting on the same dorm floor."
"Though I was gonna cry when we got the placement emails! If was smart of your grandma to have us email housing.” Keiko smiled.
"Literally! I swear if somehow fucking Emiko ended up in our building I’m dying."
"You still hate her?" she laughed at Aki's face of disgust,
"Always will!"
Keiko knew they’d be in different major taking different classes, around new people. They had their different hobbies and strengths in school and life. With Keiko having had private tutoring and being stuck at home, she found herself enjoying books on anything she could get her hands on. So suddenly math and science made sense to her as numbers just solved themselves, whereas Aki was torn between economics and teaching. Keiko had safety in her family life so leaving home seemed like it could be a great idea. Sometimes it felt like there wasn't much for her in Tokyo besides Aki; why stay? University was a touchy subject for a lot of students she felt. Keiko didn't necessarily have any strong emotions about it besides a mixture of laziness and excitement. Primary thankfulness to still have her best friend by her side.
A sudden VIBRATING snapped Keiko from her thoughts. She stumbled to reach into her purse to grab her phone.
"Oh?" Keiko murmured as she saw a text message from a number she didn't recognize.
"What's what?" Aki asked trying to see her friends phone screen,
"Text from an unknown number."
"Who!?"
"Inumaki.. forgot I gave him my number for a second." Keiko flushed red.
"What does it say?" Aki only knew the little about what Keiko told her- he'd saved them and he had been the most welcoming to her.
"Just saying that it's him."
"Oh, lame." Aki huffed, "you better tell me everything about this boy! I am gonna get you a boyfriend somehow,"
"Shut up, it's not like that! Lemme just respond," Keiko giggled shaking her head, knowing this she'd be spilling everything she knew about him to her.
4:55 pm
UNKNOWN: Hi it's Inumaki Toge:)
KEIKO: hi!! do u prefer to go by toge or inumaki? people seemed to call u by ur surname but i have to know what to put your contact as :)
UNKNOWN: Both is fine!
KEIKO: cool! also cool u texted
TOGE: So how are you doing?
KEIKO: well, i feel a lot better now knowing i'm not losing my mind or seeing things.
KEIKO: sorry I left abruptly btw...
KEIKO: Aki is okay, so i'm okay. we're in kyoto rn it's nice
TOGE: That city's nice! n glad you guys are okay. Injuries looked bad
TOGE: And you're good, sorry about Gojo
KEIKO: yeah, it's like all i see when i sleep now. and i am liking it here, much different than tokyo
KEIKO: and its k, i wasn't doing great
TOGE: Can I ask you something?
KEIKO: yeah sure
TOGE: Would you mind coming to visit when you're back?
KEIKO: uh oh did your teacher put you up to this
TOGE: Yes and no
KEIKO: i don't have much of a choice do i ? lol
TOGE: Not exactly, but I'll stay by you if you'd like.
KEIKO: that'd be nice. ur teacher's a little straightforward
TOGE: He's interesting. You'll also be meeting the principal too
KEIKO: oh great :/
TOGE: You'll be fine :)
"Sounds like they want to see me back at Jujutsu High." Keiko groaned as she figured there was no point in responding right now. She wished the conversation with Inumaki didn't go that direction, "yeah it's super pretty there and cool to learn about curses and what not I guess, but I just want to be left alone right now."
"Aw his texting seems cute, glad he cares about us." Aki proclaimed looking through the texts, "At least go to see this boy! And when have you been such a debbie-downer? This could be that adventure we wanted."
"Seems a little dangerous to me... and I guess I would like to see Toge again."
"Uh ohhh crush incoming!" Aki teased.
"Oh my god, no way, I don't even know him. I'm just glad someone's being nice over there it's weird." Keiko scrunched up her face to give Aki a playfully annoyed look. She put her phone back in her purse so her friend couldn't stare at the messages some more.
"Maybe I can meet him sometime."
"Of course! He saved us. I hope if I have to go back I can meet some other people, being stuck with Gojo will definitely have me running again."
Keiko knew that eventually she'd have to explain more to Aki. It was all on the tip of her tongue ready to spill out, she knew she'd be ready to talk soon. It was also obvious that Aki was itching to as well.
"God I am burning up, I need some more of that breeze," Keiko growned as she stretched her legs out more letting a soft groan out.
Keiko studied her friend's features with careful eyes as she felt more precious than normal. At times, Keiko only saw the 'unconcious and bloody' Aki when she looked at her. At first it startled her, made her stare because she didn't know what to say. But now, at least, she could push the dark thoughts from her mind and appreicate the fact she still had her best friend.
"Ready to go get some tea then?" The two had one more thing planned for the night- Ippodo Tea. It was located in a quiet neighborhood almost an hour from where they currently were. Aki had chosen to go shopping the last few days and stop at known food places, besides seeing Kyoto University the tea shop was the one place Keiko wanted to go. "We should catch the train to get there it'll get you out of the sun," Keiko continued excitedly, "did you know they celebrated three-hundred years last year? They opened in 1717."
"Three-hundred? That's insane... and you would know that,"
"I know." she rolled her eyes pretending not to hear that last part, "I heard their tea is the highest of quality, like top in the world. Literally so happy we're going. They do tastings so you can try different kinds. Finally get to make my own matcha," Keiko was practically drooling over the thought of fresh, high quality tea that would surpass what she made by a long shot.
"You know, you're cute when you get all excited about things!"
"Thanks," Keiko stuck out her tongue at Aki as she watched her friend bounce up to her feet, where she stood above Keiko with her hands on her hips, in a triumphant manner. She grinned down and said,
"Come on lets go slowpoke."
-
Maybe it was the fact neither had the experience of a trauma together, or separately that bled into the other's life to know how to handle it. They were still children in the eyes of society as a whole, but adult enough to choose paths that would take them to the rest of their lives. They shouldn't have been subjected to the evil that appeared in the alley that day, the curse that almost killed them and changed their trajectory forever. The mood was sullen between the two girls as they sipped their tea they so dutifully learnt to make and understand the history of. It was like dark, tear filled clouds hovered over their heads as their gazes evaded the others- like it was hitting them in the moment of silence.
"For the first time I haven't known how to talk about something with you." Keiko said, a solemn look in her eyes as she stared down at the half empty tea.
"I don't think we've been ready the last few days. Had to process, it's weird because it feels like it didn't happen. Like it was all a dream at this point."
"I feel that," Keiko replied, "but also you were definitely unconscious for the worst parts... not that I'm trying to minimize anything, I swear."
"I know." Aki wanted to reach across and grab her hands, try to console her but she felt frozen, "I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect or help you, or experience it too. I don't know what I'd do if I watched you almost die."
"It's not your fault. I'm okay, really. And I think the fact it was me who did something about it helps. Just the pure pain of losing you and even Kaito made something just... happen. I can't explain."
"I'm proud of you. And thankful we didn't die that's for sure."
"Me too and Aki, I have to tell you about when I was at Jujutsu High without you guys," Keiko took a deep breath as she talked about Gojo wanting her to join the school, figured she could be useful. And as she began to talk about her dad, her voice cracked. With a kind look from Aki she took a deep breath and continued. Keiko couldn't even believe her own words as she said "they're jujutsu sorcerers Aki... My dads one of their leaders or something. Gojo told me to be careful."
"Wow. I-I don't know what to say about that. Now you have some answers..."
"There's no way about any of it." Keiko knew it would be a dangerous denial for her to keep thinking that way; but, it was eating her up. For days she tried not thinking about it while they began their trip, but as things slowed down she had more time to think. Keiko never kept things from Aki like this so she could think, however family ties seemed like an okay thing to keep private as she tried to sift through everything she knew.
"Maybe you should consider joining Jujutsu High to some extent... what if you can really help people? Find out the truth about your parents?"
Keiko frowned as she was suddenly deep in thought. What Aki asked was a good question- she literally saved her friends. What if more people would need her? There was a nagging feeling in her that Gojo or Jujutsu High wouldn't be leaving her alone anytime soon. Keiko didn't want people dying but she also didn't know if she could be the one to help. She didn't think she was fit to take on something like that. But she always wanted to help. Make a difference. However, the world of curses seemed dangerous, not anything she signed up for or thought that would be how she'd help.
"Don't you think it's weird my parents suddenly gave me freedom. How my mom's been so strange towards me...." her voice grew quieter with each world she spoke. In her mind it seemed absurde, questions her parents; but, as she said it aloud she realized maybe it wasn't so crazy after all, "what if they didn't want me knowing about this? And not to protect me..."
"I-" Aki stopped herself before she said anything. It was a complicated situation for two girls aged seventeen, normally she'd have something to say if it was about a boy. Boys and school were always the biggest issues in their lives, mostly.
"I feel stupid, confused Aki. I feel like I can't stop thinking about it unless we're engrossed doing something. At night I've been laying awake while you're fast asleep. It's terrible."
"I'm so sorry... that jujutsu doctor gave Kaito and I someone's number if we needed to talk. I think I'm going to take them up, maybe we could go together. Or I think you should go back to Jujutsu High."
"Or we can pretend like we didn't almost die?" Keiko laughed with a tinge of bitterness.
"That feels like it would be easier..."
Aki watched her friend with sad eyes as she reached across the table grabbing her hands in her own. She knew things may not get any better if they tried to run. She also knew that everything happening was well out of Keiko's comfort zome, she seemed to be struggling this whole trip, seeming absent-minded, "I promise we'll get through this. Together and with Kaito too, he barely knew us and this happened. Us three need each other at the least even if we decide we want nothing to do with the jujutsu sorcerers."

can i ask about your au out of curiosity
SURE!!! though tbh the au isnt really something fully-fledged, its mostly just something me n my friend talk abt and we make things up as we go, so alot of stuff is up in the air and out of order plus the entire thing is 100% self-indulgent and for our own silly little amusements AKJDSHKJFH
BUT A GENERAL OVERVIEW!
this is my witch!natsume x sea creature!tsumugi au! the world consists primarily of 4 different populations: celestial witches, mermaids, ghosts and vampires. i DO kinda want there to be humans aswell bc i want eichi to be some sort of "monster" hunter but id be getting way ahead of myself and god knows we are not working with actual plotlines here ASHKFJHJK how i imagine it is the celestial witches do, ofc, reside in space (aka the moon in this mainly), the mermaids, ofc, reside in the ocean, the ghosts roam the earth while the vampires roam the underworld. natsume is watarus understudy! and wataru had taken her to earth where she could begin her studies and hone her magic abilities! tsumugi on the other hand is a far less "conventual" mermaid.... hence the sea creature label, and she basically grew up completely alone in the depths of the ocean as the more stereotypical mermaids lived closer to the surface. though, whenever tsumugi would swim up to the surface, it would be in secluded areas and she would just stay there and look at the moon for comfort the way they met was by pure chance as natsume had decided to be a SMIDGE rebellious and go look for a specific kind of magical crystals that can only be found in underwater caves completely on her own. and by pure coincidence the cave natsume had gone to check out was one where tsumugi would hide out at most of the time! and they were both fascinated by each other bc they'd never seen someone like that before, completely awestruck. natsume, while a bit afraid, decided to put a crescent moon pendant she had onto tsumugi. this pendant has a little magic gem attached to it, and natsume can use that to keep an eye on tsumugi because she thought she could probably use this little sea creature to get her hands on MORE of those crystals she was looking for. tsumugi, on the other hand, was shocked to have received such a beautiful gift from someone (though it really wasnt a gift, but she took it that way AKJHSFJKH). since no one had ever shown her such kindness, and she'd always been alone, she naturally wanted to return the favor!!! the two hadnt really communicated (as they couldnt tbh) but despite that tsumugi would continue to bring natsume random gifts she would find, WHICH INCLUDES CRYSTALS!! but also. dead fish for her to eat. SHES TRYING anyway this is already getting long so ill hurry up; the two would continue to grow closer and natsume would start growing a bit attached and help tsumugi out a little, such as making her a pair of glasses bc she'd noticed her poor eyesight, giving her the ability to understand and communicate w natsume through magic, and trying to give tsumugi human legs so she could explore the dry world (but this spell would be very hard to do right :[ ) she wanted to give tsumugi legs so she could enjoy the moon festival which would be happening soon! etc etc theres more little tidbits but this is the general overview. sora is natsumes friend that joins her and wataru in their studies sometimes but shes also a lil shapeshifter who enjoys going for a swim in the ocean sometimes and, coincidentally, befriended tsumugi aswell!! sora is a shooting star witch, and her shooting star had landed her in the ocean, which is why she likes to spend time there and learned such a spell!
this drawing takes place when wataru was first catching on to natsume spending a Suspicious amount of time off on her own, and would constantly be bringing little trinkets with her........ and this drawing takes place when wataru and sora decided they kinda wanted to help the two girls out bc some DRAMA had happened after the festival. aka usual ntmg misunderstandings. Wouldnt be them without it. so sora asked wataru to make a better transformation elixir and now theyre roasting marshmallows by the fire outside their house and things are well again ❤️ (it was more complicated than that tho but yea)

Maybe Emily doesn't know all of the details??
@boofy777:
I know over the years TD has wondered about EK’s game face, etc, and how she seems awkward in interviews  whenever TD or a return of Beth is mentioned.  Maybe she really doesn’t know???
I am bringing this up because there is a precedent for this in the Fast and Furious Franchise, which is a huge blockbuster with many followers.  In the 4th film, the character of Letty Ortiz, a main character and the romantic partner of Dominic Turetto, also a bad boy sort like Daryl, is killed in a fiery explosion.  We even see a funeral service and a grave for Letty.
Michelle Rodriguez, the actress who plays Letty, found out of Letty’s impending return from the dead WHEN SHE WENT TO THE MOVIES TO WATCH THE 5TH INSTALLMANT AND SAW HER IMAGE IN A CODA SCENE AFTER THE CREDITS ROLLED.  In true soap opera fashion, Letty had been whisked away to work for another international crime syndicate, secretly hospitalized, and also awoke later with amnesia.
Michelle Rodriguez also WAS NOT INFORMED OF ANY STORY LINES ETC UNTIL SHE ARRIVED ON SET FOR FILMING OF THE 6TH FILM.  She had no clue.
I have often wondered if this is the case with EMILY - she knows a return is very possible but no story lines or a time frame has been specifically shared.  It would make sense, because it would be difficult to keep things under wraps for so long. The fewer people that know and the less they do know, the better.
Anyway, thanks for reading and I just wanted to share this since I think after nearly ten years, anything is possible. :)
@twdmusicboxmystery:
I get why you would think that, and it’s a valid possibility.
But for me, I’ve just seen too much evidence that she knows and has known since at least the beginning of S5, as have most of the other major players.
It’s not something we can prove, of course. But we have evidence that Gimple told her before filming for S5 even began, when he talked to her about where they were going with her character.
Tumblr media
We also have evidence, based on what he said in interviews, that Andy (Andrew Lincoln) knew all about it and her return. He was careful not to actually SAY that, of course. But it was implied.
And we’ve proven beyond doubt that what happened at Grady was planned at least one season before in S4, so they didn’t just decide to kill her off at the last second, which is what she and the writers claimed. True, that doesn’t prove that Emily herself knew, but it proves that they are lying about things. So what else are they lying about? And taken together with everything else, it doesn’t seem likely to me that Emily doesn’t know.
Tumblr media
There’s also the fact that Emily hasn’t taken any major roles since leaving the show. The ones she’s done have all been tiny, minor rolls for ABC pilots. I have an entire list of posts about this HERE.
And we know that ABC and AMC are sort of “sister companies.” That’s really not the correct term, but it’s the easiest way to describe it. They share actors and those under contract to one can work for the other. We’ve seen multiple TWD actors go back and forth this way, many of them returning to work in the TWDU after working on ABC shows. (Lauren Cohen, Michael Cudlitz, Sydney Park, etc). Emily has done the first part where she’s done ABC pilots. We just haven’t seen her actual return to the TWDU yet.
Tumblr media
I could go on and on, but I’ll stop there. Like I said, taken as a whole, I just see too much evidence that Emily knows exactly what’s going on. The best we could say is that, especially if the timeline has been pushed back, which I’m sure it has (Covid, if nothing else) then she might not have known the exact dates for WHEN it would happen, but I think she always knew for sure that it eventually would. She was just waiting on a call from Gimple, and working on her music with a few small acting gigs on the side in the meantime.
I really hope when all is said and done, and she’s back, they just come out and explain exactly what happened, what was planned, how it changed, etc., so that we can know for sure. I’m not convinced they’ll do that, but a girl can hope, right?
Thanks so much for your thoughts, Dear! Xoxo!  🍁 🍂 💞

is this the closest we’ve gotten to seeing brandi’s ideas for a post-apocalyptic story/au? my ass will happily wait for this treat and take these crumbs yes, please, and thank you 🍞🐜 (only if ur comfortable with sharing more!!)
aww no i'm sorry it's not the apocalypse au 😭 however that's always in the back of my mind and i have a document i keep adding ideas to whenever i think of things. i still plan on doing a mini story for that someday!! the thing i'm working on right now is just a silly one-off. but since you were so excited and nice i'll give you some spoilers hehe
edit: the fact i said "some" spoilers and then proceeded to basically share my whole outline for the first two chapters is such a brandi move. sorry i'm like this
i'm going the last of us route by not having typical back-from-the-dead zombies and instead they're infected humans, but in this case it's going to be something similar to mad cow disease in that it originates in livestock and can be transmitted to humans (i'm using allllllll of these words colloquially for brevity, just know this is a massive oversimplification), where it stays dormant until it's far too late to be treated because the brain has already been compromised. the first symptoms are confusion, then problems with emotional regulation, dementia, and finally violence & insatiable hunger. however, these people don't possess inhuman strength or speed, though it may seem that way because they're working with unlimited adrenaline, so they're not slowed down by pain or fear. but you have a fighting chance! and any way that you can kill a normal human, you can also kill an infected person. it just might take longer. essentially i want it to be grounded in reality, mimicking the way a real disease spreads and mutates rather than going fully into video game-y horror (i love that stuff too, but it's not the story i feel like telling in a post-covid world lol. i'm much more interested in seeing how humans can survive and rebuild in the face of unimaginable chaos and tragedy!). the other important thing to note is that the disease doesn't have a 100% transmission rate. it's the same as if you had the flu and coughed in 100 people's faces, only a fraction of them would actually get sick. so if you get bitten by someone with the disease, it's not 100% certain you will be infected. so there is no singular special immune person, it's just a matter of chance & your immune system.
in the early days, this mysterious illness is only happening in remote areas with low human populations. meat that's been properly cooked & pasteurized dairy can't transmit the disease, so people in cities are generally safe, but improper handling of food, poor working conditions, factory farm employees, traveling, etc. all contribute to the spread of disease. though the illness can't be treated, it's easy to contain in the beginning. patients are restrained/sedated when they become violent and eventually they die (once the brain is completely taken by infection, the body dies too). however as the number of infected people grows, it becomes harder to hold everyone in basic hospitals. sanatoriums start popping up to study the disease and keep it quarantined. this is around the time where the story actually starts.
mikaela was a pediatric nurse at the hospital, but she was moved to one of these sanatoriums a few months ago. however, she's 20 weeks pregnant (with sadie) and she's nervous about continuing to work in a high risk environment. she asks to be moved back, but the hospital denies her request. that's how she knows shit is really hitting the fan. she warns everyone she cares about that something big is happening, but that's not how the disease is being reported on by the media, so no one really takes her seriously. and then the big outbreak happens.
there's a whole backstory to that but i'll skip it for now fjskjds the relevant part is that mikaela escapes unharmed and returns home to gather her family up. danny, casper (home from college for thanksgiving break), and asa (spent the weekend with his dad) are already there. mikaela is scared to stay there because it's a farm; they have cows, chickens, pigs, etc. and they still don't know exactly how the disease is transmitted. so she loads everyone into casper's truck (there's less space, but it's better for off-roading). on the way out, asa opens all the gates so the animals can have a chance at living even though he knows it's probably not a good idea. they desperately try to get a hold of caroline and beth, but the phone lines are dead, so they leave a note saying they've gone to their shared vacation cabin up north.
ummm and this is extremely long already but we haven't even gotten to the interesting part yet so.... they make it half way to the cabin before night falls. they don't want to run out of gas at night (and it's late fall, so pretty cold). so they stop in an area that's completely free of people. asa says he knows how to make a fire so they won't waste gas running the car for heat. casper goes with him for protection (he's buff college casper, not scrawny teenage casper fjksjd) to find wood. danny doesn't think they have anything to worry about because asa spends his days in the wilderness already, and he assumes mikaela is just being overly cautious because she's pregnant. so he lets them go.
okay so casper and asa stumble upon a small, seemingly unoccupied hunting cabin. they think this will be perfect to stay in for the night. but when they open the door, they see a horrifying sight: a man sitting in complete darkness, chewing on a freshly dead deer. the man lunges at them, managing to grab asa and bite his thumb clean off along with a chunk of his palm, before casper tackles him to the ground. he manages to immobilize him, but he's badly bitten on the neck in the process. it takes all his strength to just hold the man down, let alone fight back, so asa knows he has to do something. he finds a rifle in a bag that the man must've been carrying earlier, before the sickness set in, and he tries to shoot him in the head with it, but since he's never even held a gun before, he misses and it grazes casper's arm. he has to shoot two more times before he hits his target and the man stops moving. buuuut the sound of all the gunshots has attracted many others; they can hear them approaching in the distance. casper is in no state to move, already starting to bleed out from the wound on his neck (the accidental gunshot certainly didn't help), so asa does the only thing he can do; he leaves the gun with casper and starts yelling to attract the hoard's attention while he runs away from the cabin. he hopes danny and mikaela have heard the gunshots too and will find casper. he leads the infected further into the woods. on instinct, he tries to climb a tree to escape, but his right hand is effectively useless and he's in way too much pain to attempt it. he thinks he'll most likely die here, until he hears a distinctly human, non-infected voice shouting at him to follow his voice .... and that's where i'll leave it :D

Hating on Tokyo revengers girls part 2: Emma
-the fact that the first scene she appears in is like that makes me mad i understand that its supposed to represent teenagers trying to become adults too fast but the author did not handle that nicely because not only its a huge middle finger to a character to have their underwear be shown the first time they appear its also the fact that making her body look very adult and like its supposed to be sexy kind of undermines the message of her trying to become an adult too fast even though she's still a kid there's also the mocking of takemichi happening later which i hate of course
-in the beginning of the manga she's shown in a weird way in general like when takemichi accidentialy grabbed her boob (why??? Its not funny manga authors)
-this is more of just something i find funny but why do we have to be reminded that her and mikey are not dating and that he is not her type? First in the chapters with hina and takemichi spying on her and then once again in the chapter with her backstory (123) which editor is the weird one lol
-it makes me mad how she did not fight in the fight with moebius girl your future man is getting attacked do something! She trained at the dojo as a kid she should be able to fight at least a little hina too
-i feel like her personality is just girl and there is nothing wrong with being a stereotipically girly girl i'm not talking about that its just she almost feels like a shell of plot stuff without anything inside just....a girl
-it would be nice to see a manly girl though but i will get to that in the future if i ever do senju heheh
-she is described so much as Mikey's sister or the girl that likes Draken the little screen time she has is almost always related to those and you may say that Baji's almost entire screentime is devoted to Kazutora and Mikey but with him its more like: Kazutora killed Shinichiro here are my complex feeling about this but with Emma its more like: Mikey is my brother, i like Mikey the end
-when she died she had so much potential it felt like her story had only just started what will be her relationship with Izana, will she help Mikey etc and i don't think killing her was worth it i would have believed that Mikey had fallen into bonten darkness "only" because of Izana well of course a LOT of plot holes would appear but i can still be bitter
-her relationship with Draken was underwhelming and not explored enough and we artived at the depressing state of both of them being dead that is not satisfying at all to me
-i feel like she got explored more than hina which makes little sense
-so much critique so i will just say that i love her backstory and the way she talks about her family i love how she parallels with Izana i love her friendship with hina i love her in general
-i could say more but i'm kinda tired so yeah
I will stop sending my very long thought vomit to you lol but i just wanted to do emma since i said i would do it
Alright let's go through one at a time.
Yes! Omg her first appearance is so uncomfortable I think most people agree with that being one of the worst moments in the manga. I generally though Emma's purpose was mainly going to be fan service at first. Mainly because of her opening scene, the bit where Takemichi accidentally grabs her then when Takemichi stares downward instead of at her eyes while spying. It wasn't until I read the manga that we got to see a lot more of her character.
I actually understand why she didn't fight though, she really doesn't seem to be fighter and seems to be against fighting in general. We did briefly see her in dojo but we have no idea if she kept that up or not. I think she's like Hina with that they don't like fighting, Emma seems to think it's dumb. She also could've been in shock.
Tumblr media
Her story does mainly revolve around Mikey and Draken but I think that makes sense here. She is only a background character who's only involved because of her connections to those two. If she was to have her own storyline I'm not really sure what they could be. It would've been nice to see more of her resolve to save Mikey though. I get that Wakui sprung it before her death to give her death more of an impact but I think we could've seen more of her and what she did to help Mikey. Like I'm sure she helped a lot after Baji's death.
Yeah I would've liked to have seen more of her with Draken too, just to build their relationship a little more. I feel like we got more hints with them, stuff for us to put the pieces together ourselves then actual shown stuff. Which isn't always a bad thing.
I do like Emma a lot my only complaint is we could've had more of her.

cool, so did just watch heaven sent, aware that I was going in with some biases (as written out in a long post I kept in my drafts), and yeah it's a good episode, but I definitely think the biases in question stop me from being able to enjoy it Simply As at this point in time. maybe in future when I've rolled twelve's era around in my brain a bit, because I find it much more complicated to rate than eleven's on the whole
what's really good about it of course is that peter capaldi is a fantastic actor, because it all rests on peter capaldi being a fantastic actor, and the setting and energy of it is great. the melancholy, the despair, the lowkey anxiety the whole time -- and of course the music, the music is carrying so much of this episode! I also really like that it ties back into the confession dial (the clue of which is actually given to us in the episode itself, in that the doctor has to confess in order to not die)
bit of kvetching, but actually not so much I think:
I cannot help but see the various m*ffat-isms inherent in it, which in this episode if it were its own thing in another showrunner's era, wouldn't be irritating to me, because they'd balance it out with other Stuff -- the main one is that he's clearly always been much more interested in the doctor versus the companions so it's essentially a long look into various facets of the doctor's mind, after a season where I've felt like Clara might as well not be in most of the episodes for all she moves the plot or is emotionally changed throughout. Clara in some ways is doing in this episode exactly what she's been doing in any other episode and she's dead! she's a figment of the Doctor's mind as he talks to himself and imagines her asking questions!
it's also doing more prophecy, which at least has been hinted at since the beginning of the season (the Hybrid), but ohhh am I tired of m*ffat and prophecies, I wish this episode didn't - in the end - hinge on some kind of prophecy and could stand on its own
there's a lot that's quite unexplained, but I'm willing to see if that's given a bit more in the next episode. how the doctor got into the dial in the first place, what the creature was, why the confessions, why it was structured like that, etc. I'm thinking that'll still come up -- do note that if every past doctor left wet clothes on the wrack to dry, then presumably the first time this happened, that doctor just ran around nude afterwards?
I'm not really bothered one way or another by it being a billion+ years, I did vaguely remember that there was something about that and it ties in quite well on the grand metaphorical scheme of things vis a vis this era, of the doctor constantly pushing themself beyond their limit and totally disregarding their own pain, so the idea that they'd go through the same set of painful actions again and again for billions of years makes sense for this era, and there's questions in there of whether the doctor physically remembers that or just sets it aside, if those billions of years "count" for them or or or etc. is that, for example, part of what fourteen is working through on top of all the other things that lead into fifteen coming into being?
so in the end, good episode -- definitely thinking a looot more about how I feel about it because it's rated so highly, which is kind of a curse it has on it now I've realised. also because swelling m*ffat's ego like that can't be healthy for anyone, and don't think a single good episode in one good season out of five makes me think you're a good showrunner or writer (unless incredibly curbed by writing for someone else)
I'll definitely still put s9 through the rating's system I've got, but I let myself wait for a bit to see how the structure of it came together. might watch hell bent to round off this story (am also btw shocked that part one of a two-parter is rated like that, I'd never be able to see them apart from each other. two-parters belong together in my brain)
I think in the end what was interesting about this episode is noting what one can let go of and what one can't. while watching the recent rtd specials I saw people who were unable to let go of things that I quite readily accepted and worked with (bi-regeneration, fourteen looking like ten, etc), critiqued as something I hope will become deeper in future but isn't a dealbreaker for me (extrajudicial paramilitary force UNIT, will martha jones get closure (but also martha jones in a fifteen episode tho)), or -- once or twice -- simply went "not this," and moved on from ("male presenting") (actually my main hangup of the specials was that fourteen should have regenerated in thirteen's clothes)
with m*ffat I always have a much harder time doing that, because I simply haven't got a lot of faith in him as a showrunner or a writer that's going to give decent pay-off in the end because I know from experience that he frequently does not give decent pay-off in the end he is famous for sucking at that, and his recurring quirks that I don't like become really irksome as consequence
this not to say I didn't like this episode -- I really did. but I assume I'll like it a lot more when I can structure twelve's era in a way that I enjoy more than I have done parts of it, so that the emotional core lands more strongly than it could do at present time. I also would never call an episode that is solely about the doctor "the best episode of all time." that focus will always be too self-indulgent, ungrounded, and to the left of what I personally like in the show, I imagine
but, yeah, I could happily watch peter capaldi monologuing for hours of course I could

Chapter Seven: Newbies
Tumblr media
Mentions of: Murder, Paranoia, Slight Anxiety, Awkwardness, etc.
A/N: We’re getting to the good part, I promise, I just had to have some characters in here first lol
Tags: @moonshineinasippycup @dead-bxxxtch-walking @darthwhorecrux @froegis @autisticpickle
After wiping your hands off with a rag, you picked up two plates and carried them carefully, bringing them over to the tables. It was Saturday, which meant you were working the earlier shifts of the night and had to deal with the dinner rush.
While it can be quite stressful, you enjoyed it as well. For the most part, the people you served were kind and friendly, and great tippers. There were a few assholes here and there, but you knew better than to stoop down to their level.
The restaurants were also full of life and people, which you very much preferred over how quiet it was during the weeknights. You’ve always liked being around people, after all. It’s what you’re used to, after growing up in a big family in a huge city. That and how you hate being alone.
But those weren’t the only reasons. Lately, you have started to get a little paranoid. You know it’s probably nothing, just you freaking out and overreacting, but sometimes you feel uneasy and shaken up, jumping whenever you see a shadow move out of the corner of your eye or if someone surprises you.
It’s probably due to the most recent murder that happened only a mere two weeks ago. A poor girl, only a few years younger than you, was stabbed to death…by Ghostface. It still rattled you, especially since the campus was only a few miles away from your apartment.
“______, can you come here real quick?” Lucia called, pulling you out of your thoughts, and away from the autopilot, you were in while working.
Walking over, you spotted Lucia standing with someone you didn’t recognize. He looked too old to be a boy and too young to be a man. If you had to guess, he was a year or two younger than you.
“This is Jesse, and he’s going to be working the closing shifts with you. Since you’ve been doing this for a while, why don’t you show him the ropes?” She told you.
“I would, but I’m still serving tables-”
“Don’t worry about it. I’ll cover the shift for you. Right now, you just focus on helping your new coworker.” Your boss took you by the shoulders, gently pushing you towards him, before walking off to the tables.
After watching her walk off, your eyes moved to Jesse, who was standing in front of you, sizing him up. He was tall and lean but had some muscle to him, fluffy brown hair that hung down to his shoulders, light blue eyes and freckles, and some stubble on his chin which helped indicate his age.
He’s kinda cute.
You thought to yourself with a smile, not even realizing you had been staring. Jesse squirmed uncomfortably, fidgeting slightly. “It’s, Uhm, nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you too. Here, let me show you around.” With that, you led him around the restaurant, showing him where he would be working, what he would be doing, and how he would do it.
“It’s all pretty simple, once you get the hang of it. Have you ever worked in a restaurant before?” You asked him, as you continued to walk around the now close to empty restaurant, beginning to clean up.
“Yeah, but only fast food. Nothing classy like this.” He replied, watching as you wiped down the tables.
You tossed him a rag, gesturing to the tables to have him help. “Well, I wouldn’t exactly call this place classy, but it is nice. More of a family joint, you know? Also, are you in college?”
“I’m in my junior year.” He nodded, cleaning the tables in a similar manner as you. “What about you?”
“I just graduated.” You admitted with a smile, a feeling of pride and accomplishment growing in your chest.
“Oh, okay. So, what are you doing now? I mean, do you have another job besides this? Sorry if that seems rude or anything.” Jesse rambled nervously.
And just like that, all the pride you once felt had all died in your chest. So much for being accomplished. “I am. I’m working as a secretary for the Roseville Gazette. I want to work as a journalist, but the position is already filled at the moment. So, in the meantime, I’m here and there, waiting for another opening.”
“That’s cool. I don't really know what I want to be or do right now. I guess that’s something I’ll have to figure out.” The young man admitted with a shrug.
“I wouldn’t be too worried about it. You have plenty of time. I’m sure you’ll find something.” You reassured him.
“Thanks. So what’s it like, working at the Gazette. Is it one of those cushy office jobs? All boring and easy?” He remarked, which made you chuckle. “Hardly. Trust me, kid. It’s something else.”
“Oh, that reminds me! Did you hear about all that Ghostface stuff? It’s crazy, right? You know, Sara went to the same college as me, and they just cancelled all of our classes for the next two weeks because of what happened.” Jesse spoke excitedly, seeming less anxious then once before.
“Wow. Honestly, I can’t believe this is happening here. It doesn’t even feel real.” You admitted, finishing up on the tables and moving over to the bar next, grabbing any left over glasses to empty in the sink.
Jesse did the same, following after you. “Sorry if I seem weird about this, it’s just…I’ve lived in Roseville for all my life, and nothing interesting like this has ever happened before. Not that it’s a good thing, it’s just intriguing, I guess.”
That explains why the Gazette does so well selling their Ghostface papers. It seems like people around here are really interested in what’s going on. Not that you could blame them. You’ve been quite interested too.
But at this point, you’re not sure if you want to be so interested in it anymore, especially considering how it’s starting to mess with your head.
“Are you okay? I didn’t mean to freak you out or anything, I-”
“I’m fine. Don’t worry about it. Just a little tired, that’s all. Let’s finish up so we can get out of here.” You told him, shaking it off and continuing to clean.
