Nov 2023 Wk 5

Ongoing Series - Thai

Last Twilight (Fri YT) ep 4 of 12 - The Jasmine flirting thing was so darn cute, I can’t. I love these two so much.

The Sign (Sat YT) ep 2 of 10 - Oh it’s great. Flirting. Fighting. Fate. Murder. Eventually we’ll add fucking. A trifffecta. I could do with a bit less training but whatever. And we have learned our boys are laboring under a geis. NO SINGING. Otherwise this ep was actually pretty flipping great.

My Dear Gangster Oppa (Thurs iQIYI) ep 6 of 8 - Ooo kidnapping and the sides are suffering betrayal. Also Tew kills again. I like that they don’t shy away from the fact that he’s a killer and Guy was genuinely scared. And then Tew had to break up with Guy to protect him in Noble Sacrifice (tm). How Cdrama of him. Rough ep all round.

For Him (Thurs iQIYI) ep 1 of 10 - It’s not exactly good, but it’s better than I was expecting, and I tend to cut pulps a lot of slack out the gate. The plot is more interesting, Him is a sweetie (I like that in a seme) and our uke has both game and pluck. He’s a femme bitch, I LOVE that in a boy + we never get it femme in the lead. The acting is not great, sound all over the place, but there are no terrible sound effects, the soundtrack is okay, and our high heat came with a side of BJ + condoms, and no one has sung (yet), so I think I like it. It’s giving me Big Dragon vibes.

Linguistic moment:

Him used Him/ter for pronouns & ha. Very flirty. Nail used rao back a little bit of a challenge. (No pom and didn’t use his own name either.) Gauntlet thrown. Our baby ends up with rao/kao but I don’t think that’ll stick. Him is getting Phi out of him if it's the last thing he does.

Bake Me Please (Mon Gaga) ep 2 of 6 - The characters’ shared backstory is no surprise but I do like this show. Those little private smiles as they find family. Those lingering gazes as they find romance. Lovely. Also Shin wants to marry into Peach's family so bad, I’m reminded of Laurie in Little Women. All that said, it’s never the top of my list to watch for some reason.

Cooking Crush (Sun YT) 1 of 12 - How could I have forgotten how stunning Off is? Meanwhile… I love Gun’s character, he's so cute. But this show is a bit too comedic for me. I wish GMMTV were taking this script seriously. Sorry Neo et al I’m not sold on the sides. In general? I don’t love it. I don’t hate it either. In other news, I think I'll go make toast.

Pit Babe (Fri iQIYI) ep 3 of 14 - I love the sides and unholy amount and in general it was fine this week probably because I decided to do a trash watch.

Twins the series (Fri GaGa) ep 5 of 10 - I’m getting fatigued. Also holy random sex Batman. Where did these extra sides come from? I’m confused. Tonal pingpong going on, and not just in the shower.

Middleman’s Love (Fri YT & iQIYI ep 4 of 8 - Finally a direct confession Jade can’t avoid. Will things get a bit more serious?

Absolute Zero (Weds iQIYI) ep 10 of 12 - I don’t know why I watch this show, the acting is great, but it just makes me cry.

Playboyy (Thurs Gaga) 3 of 14 eps - What a bonkers thing this is. Very kinky and also just odd. I do keep thinking about the pinks with it. Similarly, there doesn’t seem much glue holding this thing together, dried cum of course but not glue. And despite what some kinksters say, the one cannot replace the other.

My Universe (Sun iQIYI) Fake Love ep 15 of 24 - This is a weird installment. Too stalker and random blackmail for me. But not as bad as abuse and death, I guess?

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

A Breeze of Love (Korea iQIYI) eps 7-8fin - Not much of a love triangle in the end (you just found out he is actually gay and broken hearted = an opportunity not a tragedy). Meanwhile I like that the high school break up was just mr insomniac's fault. He got jealous and angry and petty. No miscommunication just an asshole kid. I did find this show a little slow, even though it was your standard length KBL. Odd that. They are very cute boyfriends tho.

All in all:

Tsundere insomniac grump reunited with his sunshine jock ex (human sleeping pill) who now hates him. Basketball is also involved. While the simplicity of a reunion plot makes this more cohesive than most KBLs, it is a tad stiff and slow, never managing to lift itself out of "pretty and pretty enjoyable" - I liked it but I don’t think I’m going to remember much about it. 8/10

VIP Only (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 3 of 10 - It has the feel of a one act, with such a limited cast and location, which reminds me of KBL. Still watching these two quietly fall in love and process affection through their own art forms is sweet. This is a very soft gentle show.

Sahara-sensei to Toki-kun (Japan Fri Gaga) - Toki, a delinquent but pure-hearted kid falls in love with his handsome phys-ed teacher, Sahara. This is very much my trope but very manga campy, which I don’t love. I’m quite torn. Toki is an idiot but a lovable one. But do I like it?

It's Airing But...

The Whisperer (Sun ????) 10 eps - Thai horror BL that ALSO involves cheating (what joy is mine). He has dimples (My Ride) but I don't think even dimples can motivate me to watch. You can tell me how this goes if you can find it.

SHADOW (Thai Gaga) 14 eps - I'm not wild about Thai horror (or horror at all) even one featuring Singto and Fluke. I'm holding off. If told it's good, I'll binge.

7 Days Before Valentine (Weds WeTV) 10 eps - Giving me Luminous Solution vibes, so I'm waiting to binge if told it's safe.

Beyond The Star (Weds iQIYI) 8 eps - House of Stars meets Boyband. I was NOT impressed with ep 1. Waiting to be told if I should bother.

What Did You Eat Yesterday Season 2 AKA Kinou Nani Tabeta? Season 2 (Japan Gaga) 10 eps - I find this series more fun to binge, so I'm waiting until it completes its run.

In case you missed it

One Room Angel (Japan Gaga) finished. Adaptation of Harada’s manga (which I did not like) about a clerk who (nearly) dies and ends up cohabitating with an angel. I was warned that the ending would not work for me so I decided not to bother.

My Biker BL short movie from Wayu supposedly premiered Nov 27 on their YouTube Channel for Members to watch. I couldn't find anything further. The MDL description makes me think it's not for me so I bother.

You know what obnoxious thing I keep seeing in fandom I wish would stop? This absolute need some people seem to have for their ship to be Representation in some way. Shipping is just imagining scenarios between two characters! You don’t need it to be a Special reason or whatever? I have a ship that is popular and people make weird vague comments about how the fandom is racist because both of them are white and there are other ship options that have poc so the white ship being big is a reflection on how racist the fandom is but the thing is…

Look I’m going to be real with y’all the fandom is for the game Detroit: Become Human and let’s just say the two major black characters are basically stereotypes written by a neocon lib boomer in a story that itself is imho…let’s call it tone deaf and corny af rather than overtly racist but yeah. Black folks on twitter regularly mock this game for good reason. It is very much a boomer white man’s idea of the civil rights movement but with robots. The robots sing actual slave hymns. The main character is essentially a light-skinned Martin Luther King Jr (dubbed Markus Luthur King by blktwt lol) and the religious allegories of him as a savior figure are very on the nose. It is bad lol. It’s not that I wouldn’t want to explore the black characters but the fandom is full of young white people singing the praises of this writing while patting themselves on the back about it which is genuinely uncomfortable to be around. Just my 2 cents but the virtue signaling and insane policing around those two characters makes it unbearable to interact with their content it is deeply sanitized and you WILL get death threats if you attempt any nuance or are critical of the (kinda racist imo) way they were written in canon.

The worst part of this is that Markus has a popular ship with a character a lot of people read or interpret as a more soft or femme gay man and you know what zoomers hate? Femme gay men. So obviously this is made to be ‘problematic’ in some way because these people can’t just admit to being femmphobic/homophobic themselves.

Sometimes it’s easier to stick with the boring white characters in the background because they aren’t being closely guarded by stupid reactionary people who are used to flashing their favorite fictional poc characters as tokens of their own goodness and virtue.

The pinnacle of this game is that moment when the black lady lectures her son about why they need to run the robot underground railroad to Canada.

I watched some playthroughs. Unsurprisingly, I liked the buddy cops with the good development, not the cringey activism plot with too many foils and not enough development of any single relationship and not the the Women Care About Babies plot.

But if I were going to do something fannish with Markus, I'd write him having a fucked up relationship with his mentor's son post game—the surrogate son who thought the guy was great and the estranged son who knew he wasn't but who has also done a bunch of shitty stuff himself.

It's especially hilarious when tryhards think the problem is not enough people shipping Markus with North as if the slashers are going to be into 1. het and 2. yet another unnecessary traumatic sex stuff backstory for a lady.

Even worse, half the whining isn't even about that Nines fanon nonsense being more popular than Markus: it's about how Markus/Connor would be better than Hank/Connor because old people are ew.

Sorry, children, a lot of people are here to thirst for Clancy Brown and because they'll turn up for any Caves of Steel ripoff. Other Connor ships were never in the running.

Michael plays Robbie Ross, a good friend to Oscar Wilde and, delicately put, his first male lover.

Wtf all this stress and heartbreak for Oscar and Bosie to break up after three months, the world is a cruel place

- End of incoherent thoughts-

That was heartbreaking in so many ways. The main story obviously is unbelievably tragic but we shall focus on other things. There are a lot of strong performances in this movie, the whole cast was quite good. You can strongly feel the love Robbie has for Oscar, he has this soft tone when he talks to or about him, he wants him to be happy even if it means that he himself wont be. He accepts that Oscar doesn’t love him the same way and still supports his friend under any circumstances. It's not just in the dialouge, it's also in the way Robbie talks to and looks at Oscar. He’s pure kindness, love and devotion.

He cares so much for him it's breaking my poor little heart :c

On a less serious note, my guy really went ahead and had his first on-screen kiss be a gay kiss!?! Fuckin hell! And he did so well! Icon, king, legend, right from the start!

I probably could've written more, but that wouldn't do the movie and characters justice. Bosie's full brattiness alone is something I couldn't even capture in gifs. Kudos to Jude Law, he really made me hate that character. He's the exact opposite of Robbie. They had only two scenes together I think, but it's awesome to see their personalities clash.

I’d say you should check this movie out, especially if you’re lgbt+ yourself obviously. And then go ahead and read Oscar Wildes works, they're queer history and in general important literature anyone should know.

At the end of this I have learned that I, in fact, don’t hate love drama, I just like it if it's gay. And preferably has a certain actor in it.

Our Skyy 2 x Bad Buddy x A Tale of Thousand Stars Ep 2 Stray Thoughts

Congratulations to Bad Buddy and A Tale of Thousand Stars for getting the longest name I think I’ve done since a Japanese show.

Yesterday, we finally got to see Pat and Pran again, and I didn’t realize how much I had missed them. We entered their lives between episodes 11 and 12 to see how they’re handling keeping their relationship secret. We had some funny hijinks, but a deep melancholy rose up within me about how much being in the closet actually hurts. Pran accidentally punched Pat in the face and Pat accidentally hurt Pran’s feelings because of this façade. Still, Pat and Pran have such a physically comfortable dynamic that you have no doubt that these two are enjoying a long-term physically intimate relationship. Also, Ink and Pa are clearly a power couple now.

As for the plot, Pran needs to get permission to put on a play from the owners of the personal story, so we’re now in a crossover with A Tale of Thousand Stars. Pran is dying from being outdoors, and is also worried about leaving Pat behind. Phupha has passed out, and Tian is about to stab Pran. Also, Pran and Tian look way too much alike, and this feels very intentional.

I do like that the school was unwilling to sign off on Pran’s play without permission from the owners of the story.

Tian and Phupha are fighting about whether Tian will stay in the village!! Call Celine! Call Whitney! We need to fix this!

I like that Mix is able to hold his jaw the saw way Tian does again.

Yes, children! Let chaos reign!!

Oh, Pran says he has OCD. It’s not surprising, but now it’s something explicit.

Excellent, the gays are bonding over taking care of the kids. I was worried Tian would be beefing with Pran for the next two episodes.

Really, just Ohm, Nanon, Mix, and Earth are just way too attractive. It’s legitimately distracting.

So Tian and Phupha have been together for years at this point, just like Pat and Pran.

Pran is like all of us, reading his gay little stories on his laptop. He’s fangirling hard over every detail about Tian.

Pat made it! These two instantly started flirting. Tian noticed right away.

The eye game at this dinner is incredible. The talent Aof gets to work with these days, I swear.

Instant tears as Phupha read their story with the OST playing in the background.

Losing it over Phupha and Tian arguing instantly about who fell for who first, and Phupha claiming misrepresentation.

I like seeing Pat and Pran wrestle/cuddle, but I hope they actually used the mosquito net.

On the real, though, there’s no way Pran can help Phupha and Tian reconcile while he’s creating distance with Pat.

Oh, I’m here for Pat pointing out that he and Pran also fought about who fell first. There’s some potential here.

This water looks legitimately cold. I don’t think Nanon is acting there.

Yes, boys. Let’s revisit their steps. Cosplay as the couple you just met.

I love Pat Jindapat so much. He’s so cheesy and so in love with Pran.

I am having so much fun with this! I am feeling so much about the Tian conversation where he laments that Phupha never compromises or bends for him. I know that had to sit with Pran, who came here alone to prove he didn’t need Pat. Very excited about us getting a four-part BB x ATOTS story. I thought the crossover was going to be a lot smaller than this. Instead, we’re getting something really compelling out of both stories.

MASTERLIST

The fire was crackling loudly, lighting a circle around it in protection of the dark night. Every person’s face that sat on the logs around the fire was lit, each with a grin spread across it or laughter on the lips. It was a warm night, one filled with happiness and the carelessness of youth. You, Robin, Vickie, Nancy, Steve, Jonathan and Eddie had decided to have a night in the woods, just enjoying each other’s company. Somehow, the little kids had heard of it as well and had fought to come with — much to Nancy and Jonathan’s dismay. You would all be drinking — maybe even get a bit high — and they didn’t want the kids anywhere near that.

Luckily, the adults had prevailed and you had managed to keep the children away from your little trip. It was only for the adults, as Steve so elegantly put it. So the real fun could begin.

So here you all were, sat beside on another and talking merrily. Eddie was sat on the opposite side of the fire from you, attention on something Steve was telling him while fiddling absentmindedly with the ends of his hair. You couldn’t help but steal glances at him during the night. The way the fire lit up his features while the sky darkened made him look out of this world.

Your relationship existed of one with friendly jabs at one another, play fighting and, sometimes, flirting disguised as insults. It was a constant battle between the two of you on who could win your verbal competitions or fluster the other more. You refused to acknowledge that any feelings were involved — both to yourself or anyone else — but it was getting more and more difficult pretending like you weren’t actively seeking out his company.

You took another swig of your beer, feeling the familiar warmth that came with it. The lot of you were a bit tipsy, feeling particularly humourous. You were all in the mood for something fun to do. And that is how you ended up playing truth or dare. A basic game, sure, but a great one under the right circumstances.

“Steve, truth or dare?” Jonathan asked.

“Truth.”

“Oh, come on, don’t be a bore!” Robin exclaimed. She might be a bit more tipsy than the rest of you. You had noticed her drinking a bit more on the way here than usual and you could only assume it was to build up her courage to spend the night with her crush, Vickie.

“Fine, Byers. Dare.”

He pretended to think for a few seconds before a smirk formed on his lips. “I dare you to make everyone here laugh as quickly as possible.”

Steve huffed. “I thought you’d make it a challenge, come on! Everyone knows I’m the funniest here!”

You chuckled at Robin’s exclaimed denial, Nancy and Eddie agreeing with her. Somehow though, Steve managed to embarrass himself enough for all of you to be laughing your arses off. Reluctant to admit it, that was a point to Steve. You must all have had a bit too much to drink.

“Nance, truth or dare?” you smiled.

“Truth.”

“What are your kinks?” you asked. Her eyes widened, gaze jumping to Jonathan.

“Er— I,” she stuttered, trying to hide the blush on her cheeks. “I suppose I like being dominant?”

Eddie laughed, clapping his hands together. “Who would’ve guessed!?” His gaze jumped between Steve and Jonathan. “And I’m guessing one of these two likes to be sub, then.” The both of them began to flush, muttering some sort of explanations. It all fell on deaf ears.

“Knew it, by the way,” you smiled, meeting Eddie’s skeptical gaze.

“You did not.”

You took another swig, shaking your head. “Whatever, at least I know your kinks.” Robin and Steve exclaimed simultaneously, shooting you skeptical looks.

“How do you know Eddie’s kinks?” Robin shouted, chuckling with disbelief.

Steve wiggled his eyebrows, looking between the two of you. “I think you know exactly how.”

Eddie spluttered, waving his hand. “No, no— y/n and I have never hooked up, so don’t you all go getting any ideas now!” He shook his head vigorously, looking at his drink before meeting your eye with a raised eyebrow.

“How do you know though?” Vickie asked.

You nodded at his jeans. “Your handkerchief. If I’m not incorrect it stands for sadism and masochism.” Your grin grew with Eddie’s. A round of exclamations and whoops went around the fire, everyone turning their gaze to Eddie. “Would I be incorrect?”

He chuckled. “You are not, y/n.”

“Pain, huh?” Jonathan asked.

“So you know what it is.” Eddie grinned, standing up and spreading his arms. “Yes, pain.” His eyes were pinned on you, his pupils blown wide. “With the right amount, right kind and enough of time — it’s its own kind of high. Pure bliss.”

Steve nodded at Eddie, being sat down again, “I believe you, man.”

“Alright,” Vickie brought her hands together, bringing the group’s attention to her. “Steve, what turns you on?”

“What, not even going to ask me truth or dare?” he questioned, slurring slightly.

She shook her head. “Nope, I needed to ask the question.”

“It only takes a girl looking in his direction for him to get turned on,” Robin laughed, the rest of you joining in. Steve tried to hide his blushing cheeks behind his hands.

“I don’t know, man,” he slurred. “Someone funny, I think? Oh, and tattoos!”

“Like Nancy,” Robin said.

You nodded along, wiggling your eyebrows, “Or Jonathan.”

Jonathan shook his head. “I’m not, in any way, funny.”

“I bet you could still turn me on though.”

That led to more laughter and shouts. Man, the alcohol was really kicking in nicely now. Robin’s gaze turned to you, mischievousness in her eyes.

“I know what turns y/n on.”

You feigned betrayal, clutching your hands to your heart. “I thought it was Steve’s truth!”

She grinned at you, “Oh, it was. But now I dare you to tell us yours.”

You rolled your eyes half-heartedly, downing the rest of your drink. “Fine,” you bit out, flipping her the bird. “I like guitarists. Well— musicians in general, but especially guitarists.” A few oohs made their way around the group. Your eyes jumped to Eddie, only to find him already staring intently at you, a slight grin on his lips. You grinned back, ignoring the way your cheeks began to burn.

“How does that turn you on, though?” Jonathan questioned, taking a swig from his drink.

“It’s the hands, my dear Jonathan.” You stood up and gestured with your hands, showing him how they flexed when they clenched and unclenched. “The veins, the muscles. So easy to imagine what they can do to you. To your body.”

“God, you’re going to turn me on now,” Robin chuckled.

You spun around to face her with a grin. “That’s what I’m saying! Hands are the secret. The things they can do.” You faced Nancy, walking up to her, bowing and extending your hand. “It can be gentle like, courteous, almost.” You let hand fall to her shoulder, cold against her skin. A finger made its way down her arm to her wrist — featherlight in its touch — ending when you took ahold of her hand and pressed a gentle kiss against her knuckles. You smiled at the way her breath exhaled. You spun around and stepped towards Eddie. The alcohol was making you bolder than usual tonight, it seemed.

“Or— it can be dangerous, controlling, more sexual.” Your fingers traced Eddie’s jaw, feeling the muscles beneath it. His brown eyes were pinned on yours, mouth slightly agape. You took ahold of his chin and dragged him to his feet so his head was level to yours. You could feel his breath on your face as you leaned closer to his ear. “I can do so much with yet so little, and make you feel amazing. Simply by using my hands,” you whispered. “And I bet you know a thing or two as well, guitar boy.”

A hand made its way down his chest and pushed him down into his seat again. You took note of his wide pupils as you turned back to your own seat.

“I, er— wow,” Steve muttered. You chuckled at his breathless tone. Seems like you weren’t the only one to admire a musician’s hands.

“You’re a drummer, though, right, y/n?” Vickie questioned, eyes a bit dazed.

You ducked your head, clearing your throat. “Yes, yes, I am. That is why I do know how to use my hands.”

“You don’t get distracted when you play with others, then?”

You shot her a look of disbelief. “You don’t get turned on when you're near a girl's boobs, do you, Vickie?”

“Touché,” she chuckled.

Jonathan cleared his throat, bringing the attention to him. “Robin,” he said, meeting her eye. “Truth or dare?”

“Well, since everyone else here has been so boring, I choose dare.”

Jonathan’s smile widened as he glanced at Vickie. “I dare you to kiss the person you find hottest.”

Robin’s own smile dropped and she shot a scathing glance at the giggling teenagers. She ducked her head in exasperation, biting out a “fine,” and downed the rest of her drink — probably for courage. She turned her gaze to Vickie beside her, question written in her eyes. She let her hand rest against Vickie’s cheek before pressing their lips together. Cheers erupted around the fire and you couldn’t help yourself from letting out a laugh. Finally, you thought.

“Wow,” Vickie breathed, a smile gracing her lips. “That was—“

“Yeah.” Robin’s own smile matched Vickie’s.

“Eddie,” Steve exclaimed with a smug expression. “Truth or dare?”

His gaze jumped to you, answering Steve absentmindedly, “Dare.”

“Alright, y/n happens to have told us some things that you apparently own.” Everyone’s gaze turned to Eddie’s surprised face. His gaze turned accusing, but you feigned innocence with a smile. “I need to know— what do you use your handcuffs for?”

Eddie choked on his drink and you had to fight to hold in your laugh. You had seen the handcuffs hanging beside his bed when you came over to him a while ago. You remembered telling Steve and Robin about them, wondering what in the hell he used them for — even if you did have a hunch. It seemed as if you would finally get your answer.

“I thought this was a dare?” Eddie asked.

“Fine, I dare you to show us what you use them for?”

He sighed, chuckling half heartedly, “I don’t know if this is the right time for that.”

“Hey!” Robin exclaimed, “You got the dare, you gotta do the dare!”

Eddie’s brown doe eyes turned to you, begging for help. You usually would have done what he wanted, rescued him out of kindness. But you were curious. You enjoyed seeing him sweat like this. It only made you wonder what on earth the handcuffs really were for. You felt like teasing him, tonight. You felt dangerous. You had gone this far already, so why not go further?

You slowly shook your head, eyes still set on Eddie’s. “I’m afraid you’re on your own for this one, Eddie.”

He sucked in a breath, ducking his head. “I use the handcuffs— as restraints.” You let out a breathless chuckle. He really was a kinky motherfucker, huh?

Steve narrowed his eyes, looking helplessly around for any clue. “What do you mean?”

“What I mean,” Eddie snapped, clearly embarrassed at this point, “Is that I use them during sex.”

Knew it.

Jonathan fully spit out his drink, Nancy having to pound him on the back for him to not choke. Robin and Steve had the same shocked expressions on their faces. What had they expected, really?

Vickie let out a loud laugh. “Sex? Really?” Eddie ducked his head, shaking it. “You’re turning out to be more interesting than I thought.”

“Knew you were kinky in bed, Eddie,” you said, smugness written all over your features. He narrowed his eyes, looking you up and down, head tilted.

“I would assume the same for you.”

You let out a laugh, meeting his eye. “Guess you’d have to find out.”

Robin cleared her throat, bringing your gaze to her. You gave her a questioning look. “You can keep flirting later when we’ve finished playing.”

Your breath hitched, feeling your cheeks start to heat up immediately. Flirting was one thing, but being called out on it and actually having to acknowledge you were doing it? A completely other thing. You dared a glanced at Eddie and he looked as flustered as you felt. You chose to just ignore what was said and move on.

“Jonathan,” Steve said, “Truth or dare?”

“Er, yeah— truth.”

“Who of us here do you want — or have ever wanted — to fuck?”

Jonathan’s eyes widened, jumping around the fire. “What are with these questions, man?”

“Come on, Jonathan,” you laughed, his eyes moving to yours. “We’re drunk, we’re having fun. Why not?”

Jonathan groaned, “Fine.” His gaze moved to every person again, this time more careful. He swallowed his nervousness, taking a deeper breath. “Well, Nancy, of course.”

“There must be more than just her.” Steve leaned closer to him. “Even I can name more than one here I’ve wanted to fuck.” You eyebrows shot up as you glanced over at Steve.

“Like whom?” Jonathan asked.

“Well, er— it’s not really my truth, is it?” Steve muttered, scratching the back of his neck.

Eddie took a swig of his drink, shaking his head. “Nuh-uh, no getting away with this, Stevie.” His brown eyes burned in the light of the fire. “Pray tell, who here have you wanted to fuck?”

Steve sighed, accepting his defeat. “Fine,” he bit out. Eddie winked at him, pleased with himself. Steve avoided everyone’s gaze as he started to name everyone as quickly as he could. “Nancy, Jonathan, y/n and Eddie, — and Robin — before I knew, that is. I also believe I was briefly attracted to Billy at some point.” The corner of your lips started to tug up as you looked over the Eddie, a grin on his face as well.

“Billy?” Nancy exclaimed.

“You’re really trying to collect us all, huh, lover boy?” you teased, winking at him. Steve groaned, burying his face in his hands.

“Wait, does that mean all of us have turned Steve on at least on one point?” Eddie laughed. You snorted, his gaze to gliding to yours.

“I mean, all it would take is cracking a joke and Steve will be creaming his pants,” Robin laughed, leaning heavily on Vickie. A hiccup escaped her lips. You didn’t know exactly how much she had drunk tonight, but you doubted she would remember much tomorrow.

Steve leaned forward, extending an accusing finger in her direction. “Listen, you butthead. I cannot help with whom I’m attracted to! I didn’t choose you all dumbasses.” Robin gave him a blank stare, pouting lightly. “What?” he asked.

“I just cannot believe you would call me a butthead,” she muttered, trying to fight her smile. He threw his arms up in exasperation, standing up to try to get rid of the nervous energy in his body. “So harsh, Stevie.”

“You wound me, Steve.” Your hands clenched over your heart, hurt written across your features. You fell back on the ground behind the log, leaves ruffling beneath your feet. You sprung to your feet, a big grin on your face, and met Eddie’s gaze. You watched the fire being reflected in his brown eyes, an almost dazed smile on his face. God, he really was beautiful.

“Really, Steve?” Eddie questioned. “The King of Hawkins High wanted to fuck the Freak?” Steve flashed him a sarcastic smile, before scoffing at you. It only made your grin grow.

Jonathan cleared his throat. “Okay, alright— Steve wants to fuck us all, got it.” Steve groaned yet again from his seat, muttering curses you couldn’t quite catch. Jonathan’s smile widened.

“Moving on—,” Nancy said, bringing her hands together and turning her gaze to you. “I believe it’s y/n’s turn.”

“Yeah,” Steve agreed, his lips tugging up. “Truth or dare?”

You shot a nervous glance at Eddie, his brown eyes already set on yours. His hair was a ruffle of locks, carefully draping over his shoulders. The corner of his lip was tugged up in a half smile, something you happened to find very attractive. God, you dreaded what truth you would have to reveal to your friends — but you feared whatever the dare would be more.

“Truth,” you smiled, gaze still set on Eddie. Robin shot a mischievous glance at Steve, a nod passing between the two of them. Oh god, you did not like this.

“Alright, y/n,” she said. “When — and more importantly, what — was your last sex dream?”

And there it was.

You furrowed your brows. “Oh, man.” You rarely remembered what your dreams were about. Your last sex dream? “I gotta be honest, Robin, I don't even remember.” Your gaze shifted to Steve. “Or know what it was about, for that matter.”

Robin started to shake her head, but Steve was quicker. “I don’t believe you, y/n,” he said, gaze jumping to you. “I think you just don’t want to reveal anything embarrassing.”

Your eyebrows raised at his accusation. “I am serious! I don’t know! Both of you know how bad my memory is.”

“Fine,” he grumbled.

Robin’s lip tugged up into a smirk. “Well, since y/n can’t remember, maybe we should help him out. Don’t you think, Stevie?” Steve’s lips immediately grew into a grin. Your eyes jumped between the two, narrowing. What were these two up to?

“An excellent idea,” Vickie quipped.

“Don’t you start on this, too,” you bit out at her. “Traitors, all of you.” You dared a glance at Eddie, his grin just as shit-eating as the rest of them and eyes seeming very curious.

“So, tell us. What was it?” Nancy leaned forward, a hand on Jonathan’s arm. You shot a warning glance at Robin — which she either didn’t notice or pretended not to — even though you had no idea of how she would know you’d had a sex dream. Unless— you prayed you hadn’t said anything.

“Last night, when y/n and I slept over at Steve’s, he was dreaming.” She shot a glance at Steve, whom’s grin only widened. “And we heard him say—“

“Oh, Eddie—” Steve moaned, bursting out into laughter with the rest of them.

Your mouth fell open, completely in awe. Blood immediately rushed to your cheeks — a clear sign of your flustered state. You couldn’t believe you had said that. You tried hiding your face between the fingers of your hands. It was to no avail. The laughter kept going, drowning out all other sound.

You dared a glance at Eddie between the gaps of your fingers. You were terribly afraid of how he would react to this. Would he be disgusted? Awkward? Wanting to end your friendship? You didn’t want to endanger your relationship with him. Maybe you could play it off as just a physical thing, rather than the emotional attachment you seemed to have formed. You expected some sort of comment, at least — a snarky insult slung at you.

But when you met his eye you knew there would be none of that. He wasn’t looking at you weirdly, or any differently than normal. His eyes were blown wide, astonished in their expression, mouth agape. It was as if he couldn’t believe you would be attracted to him. But that’s impossible, right? There was no way he could think that.

“Are you sure the two of you haven’t hooked up, because it sounded way too real,” Robin laughed. She hiccuped again, almost laying on Vickie at this point. You absentmindedly shook your head, still holding Eddie’s gaze. His eyes really were beautiful. The way they shone in the sun, always full of mischief and always so curious. You loved that about him.

“I think I need to get her to bed,” Vickie said, glancing around. Nancy nodded with her and offered to help Robin to their tent. Jonathan and Steve’s eyes met, a nod passing between them before standing up and excusing themselves for the night. You gave them a scathing glare. This was not over.

It was now only you and Eddie left — him staring intently at you and you desperately avoiding his gaze. You waited for him to drop the insult, the comment. Anything that showed that he truly had no feelings for you.

“You—” he started, fiddling with the rings on his fingers. “You had a sex dream about me?”

“Er, well— I mean, it seems so?” Your mind drew a blank. What could you even say to that?

Before Eddie could stop himself he dragged a hand down his face. “But why— why me, though?” Your eyes widened, full of disbelief. Why not him? Did he not know how attractive he was?

“Eddie, you’re hot as fuck.”

A chuckle escaped his lips, almost humourless, shaking his head. You shot to your feet, not really sure what to do. You really weren’t good with feelings.

“What I mean is, Eddie, you’re an incredible person.” You smiled, softening at his gaze. “You never fail to make me laugh — whether you’re being an annoying dork or unnecessarily sweet. I don’t think you understand how much I really care about you.”

“You really think so?” he whispered, brown eyes on you.

“Yeah,” you breathed, moving to sit beside him.

“So, you have a crush on me?” His smile turned smug and the familiar glint returning to his eye. There he was. My Eddie.

“What?” You rolled your eyes and fought against the urge to move away from him again. “I never said that.”

“You implied it. Plus, how could you not? I mean, I am amazing.” He gestured to himself, grinning widely.

“Amazingly an asshole, maybe,” you snapped. He may be beautiful, but he was amazing at being a pain in your ass.

He shrugged, fighting against the tug of his lips. “Only fitting for an incredibly idiotic man, I suppose.”

“Did you just call me an idiot?

“I called you incredible,” he breathed, turning to face you. His gaze jumped all over your face, unsure of what to do. You had flirted before, but it had always been more discreet and disguised in between insults. Never had you been this open and forthright with each other. It was terrifying, you had to admit. But you let yourself relax, involuntary leaning closer to him, your gaze studying every detail of his face without shame.

His hand tentatively reached for you cheek, almost too scared to touch you. But as soon as you leaned into the touch, he gripped harder, his fingers reaching behind your neck. You felt him gently tug you closer and you almost fell against him in your hurry to reach him.

You kissed him hard, with everything you had and had not yet said to him. Everything you couldn’t say to him. He responded with an equal amount of enthusiasm, pushing you back. You realized this was not so much different from your verbal spats, but instead it was dominance you were fighting for. You gripped his hair, tugging lightly at the same time as you bit down on his lip. His mouth fell agape and he practically moaned at the sensation, sounding so sensual you had to pause. Masochist and touch starved? Boy, you’d have your hands full with him. He pulled away, breathing heavily and pupils blown wide.

“God, I’ve wanted to do that for a long time,” you breathed, letting the corners of your lips tug up into a smile.

“Was it like that in your dream?” Eddie asked. He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively, failing to keep the grin from his face.

“Hmm, I don’t know. Maybe we should try to recreate it.” You narrowed your eyes, matching Eddie’s smirk. “The whole dream.”

“That sounds like a brilliant idea.”

“I generally do have brilliant ideas.”

I think the thing that made it harder for me to get into inquisition at least initially as opposed to the other two is the fact that for the most part, characters won’t seek you out. You have to do the work of maintaining friendships. In dao you’re all living together in tents having gay sex and singing kumbaya (or yknow. Helping Morrigan figure out how to kill her mother) and in da2 people just show up to your house to talk to your dog and even though you have to work to progress the friendships, you get the vibes that we’re all on an even playing field even when we come from very different backgrounds. In dai for the most part characters don’t try to build up friendship with the inquisitor first. The inquisitor is the one who has to speak to them all following recruitment, and you could go the entire game without learning nearly anything about anyone except for Cassandra, Varric, and Solas, who all have some form of major plot relevance.

One could see it as a failing of the game but actually I think it speaks to the way the position of the inquisitor is so wildly different from the other two protags.

The Warden is effectively a criminal on the run for much of the game, with the meeting of Alistair and Morrigan established before the real inciting incident so they have a background before they all start traveling together. And the Warden is not a leader, not initially anyway, they’re simply thrust into that position because Alistair prefers to follow.

Hawke is a refugee, rising from the ashes of a life they can’t return to even if they want to, and many of their friends live much the same. They have family who relies on them for guidance after the death of their father. Varric, though a Kirkwall lifer unlike the rest of them, sees the potential in Hawke as a cunning business partner. Hawke becomes a leader because they must, because people look to them for guidance. Because surely they must know what they’re doing, right?

The inquisitor begins as the herald of Andraste. No matter what background you choose, you are instantly thrust into this nearly saintlike position. People look to them for spiritual and tactical guidance even if they don’t believe in Andraste or the Maker, because this is the role that society has put upon them. And they gain friends in Varric, Cassandra, and Solas immediately. Solas mostly for dramatic irony, Cassandra because she wants to believe (especially after the death of the divine), Varric because he saw how rough being thrust into power was for Hawke and recognizes that this kid might need a friend. But everyone else is a little yknow. Intimidated by the whole magic glowing palm thing. If they are really the Herald, why them? What kind of holy power has Andraste granted them with? What retribution can they wreak if something goes wrong? And if they’re not really the Herald, if that whole maker business isn’t real, they’re still the commander of a major army leading what is essentially a holy war. Herald or not, that’s some intimidating shit. It’s no wonder it’s hard for the inquisitor to make friends. They woke up one day and were effectively told “hey, there’s a giant asshole in the sky and we think your evil hand has something to do with it. And we think it’s because the Holy Spirit says so. So you’re gonna lead our army now.” That’s not really a great way to garner meaningful friendships.

Basically everything Varric says about the inquisitor being intimidating to people simply because of their role. That’s the point I’m trying to get across here.

My main thing with Overlord is that it has a Genuine Premise and Plot but somehow manages to make Nearly Every Moment the most uncomfortable thing to Watch. The idea of a gamer being transported to a game word /as/ his game character while taking into account the extreme power scaling that a max level mmo character at the end of its game's lifespan would have is a Genuine Fucking Good Premise. Especially with the spin on loneliness and community building that it has in some aspects. However,,,,,,,

Every other aspect is the worst thing imaginable. Moments of Intrigue and Character Building are interrupted by extended Internal Monologs about how much certain characters want to bone the MC. The constant mention of Sex and Reproduction would be unintrusive if not for their main use as a tool to Reduce Every Woman Present to a Womb instead of a Character. This compounds obviously with the other misogynistic tropes, most densely in the second season. I have specific criticism about the Eight Fingers boss who runs the brothel. He plays off Homophobic and Transphobic tropes to make a foul cluster of vile moments, which I take Personal Displeasure with as a Trans-Feminine person. They made the Gay One a Sex Trafficker.

My Human/Original AU Series is an amalgamation of original story work with various locations, character names, character descriptions, and/ or conversations, pulled, used, and/ or referenced from throughout all of the CW Arrowverse and DC Comics Universe, though primarily Supergirl. It’s not really crazy, but it is intricately woven throughout the storyline.

Not that I know of.

Yes, my I Believe in a Thing Called Love into Spanish.

Not yet, but I’m not opposed.

Supercorp... There are others (Avatrice, Caitvi, lots of wlw really), but nothing compares to the hold they still have on me.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I plan on finishing all of my actual WIPs that have writing associated with them. There are a couple of WIP ideas I have that I’m not sure I’ll ever get to… A Christmas fic, one loosely based on the movie D.A.R.Y.L., a couple with other main relationships

No idea… Someone once told me they love the way I sometimes write a singular scene from different POVs, telling the story in pieces to eventually for the whole… Not sure that’s a strength. I guess plotting out the story details then?

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

English is the only language I really know, so in the past when I’ve needed to write in a different language (I’ve done Spanish and Icelandic), I used Google translator- which I now know is kind of bad at what it’s supposed to do. I need to ask a native speaker to check on the Spanish I’ve done, but I don’t know any Icelanders. For Kryptonian, I use the Doyle dictionary but I don’t know if I do the grammar/ syntax right or not.

Supergirl/ Supercorp.

20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?

Oh, this one’s hard… Um, I like a couple of my fics for very different reasons, but I guess the Human/Original AU Series is the one that’s taken the most effort and I’m most proud of… It also started as my first, so you can see how I’ve grown as a writer as it continues which is fun/interesting/embarrassing for me lol

'Move over Matt Damon, Andrew Scott is stepping in as Tom Ripley in a new eight-episode TV adaptation of The Talented Mr Ripley. Now, we know reboots are everywhere but, come on, it's Andrew Scott! Anthony Minghella helmed the sublime 1999 adaptation to sun-dappled perfection, but who's to say another version on the small screen can't be just as seductive?

Here's everything we know about Ripley so far.

Is there a trailer for Ripley?

Ripley? Ripley.

Netflix's first official teaser for Ripley doesn't give a whole lot away, but then again, neither does its titular character. The moody and monochromatic series is fittingly ominous in its first look, as we see Scott's Tom Ripley seemingly evade justice for his many, many schemes. The trailer also gives us glimpses of some of the show's co-stars, including Dakota Fanning, Johnny Flynn and John Malkovich. Beyond knowing the story from the book and the 90s film starring Jude Law and Matt Damon, the trailer keeps much of Ripley's plot close to the chest. But, again, that seems quite fitting.

Ahead of the trailer release, Netflix also dropped some new images of Andrew Scott looking suitably pensive and mysterious as the enigmatic Ripley as he broods in black and white across Italy.

When is Ripley coming out?

It's been a long and winding road to get the story of Tom Ripley to the small screen. Having first been announced in 2021 and filming in Italy that same year, it's since bounced around from Showtime to Netflix. At a certain point, Andrew Scott didn't even know when it would come out.

But now, along with its first teaser trailer, Netflix has announced that Ripley will hit screens on 4 April. Springtime is for scamming, after all.

What’s Ripley about?

Based on Patricia Highsmith's novel, The Talented Mr Ripley, the series follows “Tom Ripley, a grifter scraping by in early 1960s New York” who “is hired by a wealthy man to travel to Italy to try to convince his vagabond son to return home.” That son is Dickie Greenleaf, and their odd friendship spirals into, among other things, incidents of deceit and murder. All set against the stunning backdrop of the Italian Riviera, of course. No wonder the book has been adapted so many times.

Scott has also hinted that the series will cover some of the subtextual queer themes of Highsmith's text. In a conversation with Ben Whishaw, he said:

“If Tom Ripley was in a gay bar, I’m not sure that he would fit in there. Nor do I think he’s a straight character. I think he’s a queer character, in the sense that he’s very ‘other.’ What’s his relationship with sex, or death, or with family or friends? It’s interesting that a character is the sum of the parts that you don’t have to play.”

Should this show get greenlit for more seasons though, we could potentially see adaptations of the other novels in the Ripley series. The second book, Ripley Under Ground had a film version with Willem Dafoe and Alan Cumming that, apparently, no one saw. And Dennis Hopper and John Malkovich played Tom Ripley in two film adaptations of the third novel, Ripley's Game.

Who stars in Ripley?

First, of course, we have Andrew Scott as Tom Ripley. Considering his past roles in Fleabag and the Oscar-buzzy All of Us Strangers, the actor certainly has the charisma for the part.

He’ll be joined by Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf (the playboy heir Ripley swindles) and Dakota Fanning as Dickie’s girlfriend, Marge Sherwood. And now, thanks to the trailer, we know that John Malkovich – a former Ripley, from 2002's Ripley's Game – will also be joining the monochrome world of the Netflix series.'

𝟶𝟷. Born in Santa Cruz, California and raised by a single mother. She worked multiple jobs to pay bills / put food on the table, and he often tagged along since she couldn’t afford a steady babysitter.

𝟶𝟸. He learned from an early age that the hardest and most dedicated workers often don’t get the payout they deserve. It’s given him a slightly jaded view on life and humanity at large. He’s trying to remain optimistic, though. At least for right now, anyway.

𝟶𝟹. Come middle school, his mother put him in charge of grocery shopping and cooking. At first, he thought he would hate it, but little did he know that he’d fall in love with being in the kitchen; preparing meals becoming one of his favorite parts of the day. Around this time, Dale also discovered a passion for athletics.

𝟶𝟺. In high school, he was your typical golden boy jock. His sport of choice was soccer, and he was highly regarded as one of the best on his high school’s team. If not for soccer, he likely wouldn’t have gotten decent grades, but the love of the game kept him in check. He was popular; had tons of friends, girlfriends, flings, etc.

𝟶𝟻. Throughout this time, he remained closeted in the hallways at school, but unveiled himself much more online; engaging more with his community behind the anonymity the worldwide web allows. He was always terrified of what coming out as gay would do for him in high school, especially with his “status” among everyone, so he kept that to himself… even if it meant he was unfaithful in relationships. Cyber-sex is still considered cheating.

𝟶𝟼. Upon graduation, he accepted a scholarship to attend the University of California—Los Angeles; wanting to get away from Santa Cruz. Here, though, his lifestyle completely changed. He became your typical obnoxious frat boy—partying all the time, watching his grades sink, and even going so far as to sell adult content of himself online to bulk up his bank account; fraternizing with people who were not good influences on him whatsoever. He only lasted three semesters before failing out of school. After, he returned to Santa Cruz and worked hard to get sober.

𝟶𝟽. Laid low, worked at a bistro for awhile—which wasn’t the best decision for him as he was trying to remain sober, but it’s what he could find upon moving back—and a few years into his return to Santa Cruz, he was informed that he inherited a house and $100,000 from a distant relative on his dad’s side. He has no idea why this happened to him, but he used it as inspiration to completely start over. Dale moved back to Los Angeles, became certified as a personal trainer and nutritional therapy practitioner, and has been working on his private practice slowly, but surely; offering health and wellness services to the people in the city.

This Week in BL - Cameos & Familiar Faces

Entirely subjective yadda yadda. Organized by favs in each category. No numbered lists anymore, tumblr be buggn'.

End of Aug Start Sept 2023

Ongoing Series - Thai

Laws of Attraction (Sat iQIYI) 8fin - Oh the DRAMA. Why does the insane ex (my true love) remind me of the cartel leader from Romancing the Stone? Even the sides got HEA! It was fucking great!!!!! Charn remains a bonkers spoiled evil murderous brat with a cruel smile beloved by his one true paladin. Also: post it love note trope! Been a long while my old friend. NO SINGING!!!!! I do love that wedding jacket frock coat cape thing Charn wore.

In conclusion: This is a great gay suspense thriller with several solid couples, fun plot, killer characters, queer rep, and a happy ending. Charn may be my favorite lead character of 2023. However, this show is not entirely BL, more on the fringe, like Manner of Death. Add that to several "singing incidents" and pairs being a little weak in the chemistry arena, and this lands safely in 9/10 territory. It’s tons of fun tho: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I Feel You Linger in the Air (Sat grey) ep 3 of 12 - This show is getting more and more lakorn each ep. Apparently the straights are having a class divide arranged marriage crisis. Who cares? Our boy is ALWAYS in trouble. Crazy that he has to save the people who betrayed him in a previous life - but I guess he chose revenge! That's unexpected.

Had to switch to grey and couldn’t find a working rip. It was frustrating and I wouldn’t have bothered except I like this show so much. Still, it means no screen caps because the rez is naff.

Dangerous Romance (Fri YT) ep 3 of 12 - Uh oh. Kang wants to save Sailom and be his hero. The fact that K’s Pa puts no pressure on him whatsoever, makes me wonder if K's Ma committed suicide or something? It’s definitely the opposite parental dynamic we normally see in BL. I have to say, the pacing is great in the show. And the acting is on point. It’s really great.

Hidden Agenda (Sun YT) ep 8 of 12 - these two just kiss well. I mean not "rip your clothes off Taiwan-style," but sweet young boyfriends-esk. Joke wants to be claimed so bad. It’s great. I enjoyed this ep, unfortunately it looks like we have a manufactured angst drama drop in the next episode. Is this a 10 episode arc? I thought it was 12. It’s odd to have doom happening next episode already.

Only Friends (Sat YT) ep 4 of 10 - Back story time! Ray and Mew are HARD to watch. Incestuous friend group gay is the worst. Omg I got such QAF vibes from this ep. Nick Boston Sand chats = very throw back 90s gay soaps.

Location game moment: Top's hotel room is also Chan’s apartment in Laws Of Attraction.

Naughty Babe (Sat YT) ep 1 of 8 - Ooo. Est is back! Hi handsome. Head of security suits you. Please lead out the new Waterboyy remake? You’re perfect for the role. (If it must happen.) Yi’s Pa is GREAT. Please give daddy a nice boy? Could that be our secondary couple for this series?

Meanwhile, with the leads (sorry I was distracted by daddy) we got us an arranged marriage, run away bride, and an amnesia trope. Put in a secret baby and it's squarely 1980's Harlequin. Will there be Vikings? Sex herbs? Pirates? Dub con?

Be Mine Super Star (Mon Viki) ep 9 of 12 - Again with lovely sex scenes, it’s just the plot stringing them together is frayed. Also don’t fuck in an onsen. Both yech and ouch.

Wedding Plan (Wed YT & iQIYI) ep 7fin - Trash watch here! Honestly this was an okay ending, I’m not mad at it. If you can tolerate Mame and liars (kinda the same thing) you’ll be fine with this show.

Summation: An innocent wedding planner falls haplessly and hopelessly in love with a groom who relentlessly pursued him, even though he’s about to marry someone else. A somewhat lackluster mame offering with less of the usual stellar chemistry, but all of the usual lies and manipulation. 7/10

Love in Translation (Sat iQIYI) ep 3 of 10 - I skip everything to do with Tammy and it’s fine. There’s only about 20 minutes of fine but that’s more than enough. On the bright side. So far. No singing.

My Universe (Sun iQIYI) ep 2 of 24 eps - Cassanova Begins Part 2. Aw. It was sad. Another variation on the “my ghost boyfriend” trope (usually sad). 2/10 I don't do sad BL.

Next up is Merry Go Round featuring the pair from Destiny Seeker (we likey) who want to marry each other, but end up fake engaged to the same woman. Beard squared? Looks silly.

Crazy Handsome Rich (Sun Gaga) ep 1 of 10 - There are 2 things I like about this. I bet you can guess what they are.

There wasn’t enough of either in this first ep. ALSO the captions, sound effects, and voice over are truly next level bad. Utterly atrocious.

The 2 leads fucking around in the end credits was the funniest part of the whole show.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Jun & Jun (Korea Thur Viki) ep 7 of 8 - I am confused and frustrated about what the communication delay is between the two Juns. It feels artificial and narratively manufactured. But since this is a short form KBL and I know it will be resolved quickly, I’m not as annoyed as I would be if this were Thai BL. Still it feels audience manipulative. I also feel sorry for Simon. BUT it looks like it’ll be a sweet boyfriends final episode.

Stay By My Side (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 10fin - Omg they’re so cute!!! Taiwan the purveyors of ultimate sappy gay domesticity. I am going to miss having these to nonsencing all over my dash.

This show was an interesting take on the "ghost boyfriend" trope. About a boy who is tormented by hearing the dead, except when he is around one other boy - desperation+proximity = love. Unfortunately, the story was erratic and waffled about. While the leads turned in solid performances and the sappy domesticity was off the charts, it never really had the strength of the narrative convictions such a strong concept should have supplied. Highly rewatchable and enjoyable for that sappy domesticity but not a whole lot more. Still I always give extra credit for the diabetes-inducing sugar content and rewatch capacity. 8/10

Kisseki: Dear to Me (Taiwan Tues Viki & iQIYI) eps 3 of 13(?) - I love the punching thing - there is a lot of violent flirting in this show. I’m not mad about it. Ugh, poor thing has real abandonment issues. And now trust issues. I see why we’re getting 12-14 eps. This gonna be MESSY.

Meanwhile, does EVERYONE have a guest cameo? Not that I’m complaining. Hi BLIHID boys! Now I need to rewatch that show.

Love Class Season 2 (Korea Fri Viki) eps 7-8 of 10 - Oh my God the next morning w/ couple 2 was so darn cute. They are all such terrible flirts with each other. Honestly, this show makes me laugh more than any other BL currently airing. I’m not sure it is meant to be as funny as I find it. While couple 3 (the mature characters) is by far my favorite, I actually think they don’t work with the other two pairs, they feel superfluous to the show. I like the show better because they’re in it, but it feels like two different BL‘s stuck together. KBL certainly can’t handle more than two couple threads at the same time.

Why R U? (Korea Wed iQIYI) eps 3-4 of 8 - Ugh. I am such a sucker for the FighterTutor dynamic. Why so good? Uh oh. Real kiss! KBL you're spoiling us. But, isn’t sad-seme-hyung dating some chick? Argh. Poor Sunwoo. This show is even worse at repping Fighter's character sympathetically. Who knew that was possible?

My Personal Weatherman AKA Taikan Yoho (Japan Sat Gaga) ep 3 of 8 - The date episode! Even Japan is doing it now. And these two who have been living/fucking together for ages still dance around each other like junior high kids. I gotta say, I watch this one twice because Vicki has different subs from Gaga. I feel like it’s easier to understand if I watch two different translations of the same script. But it’s still quite a taciturn piece.

Minato's Laundromat Season 2 AKA Minato Shouji Coin Laundry Season 2 (Japan Thu Gaga) ep 8 of 12 - Sides are great. It was mostly a cute ep with tiny bits of Progress and a proper Confession. I miss Shin’s siblings. And then… the much loathed amnesia trope. Really?

Everyone say it with me: Must you, Japan?

Stay Still (Hong Kong Tues YouTube) ep 5fin - It ended happier than I was expecting. Optimistic for one couple, and most likely optimistic for the other.

Summation: What to say about this offering from Hong Kong? It’s different, a mix of early CBL, Taiwanese shorts, and Pinoy visuals. It felt like the story was 2 independent shorts that had been lengthen and then stuck together, and I wish they'd been approached as separate and tighter entities. Nevertheless, this was a complex little piece, interesting in a sweaty grungy way, with a certain aura of queer authenticity that made it simultaneously tense, unpredictable, and refreshing. I’m not sure I would necessarily call it BL, but any county’s early foray into the genre usually starts out this way, so perhaps nascent BL? Worth watching, especially if you enjoy stuff from the Philippines and Taiwan. 7/10
