Yandere!Kisaki Tetta
Bitch, he does not put in those extra hours at the office for you to not enjoy your Wagyu Tomahawk steak, specially prepared and basted to the perfect temperature.
Knows right away when you don't finish your usual 4+ plates. "Darling, is there something wrong with the caviar?" "Kisaki, do you think I'm fat?" "Fucking what-"
But no really, whoever made fun of you is going to get it. He works hard to have the supreme joy of being able to feed you the very best at all times whenever you want.
Gourmet sushi? He'll have a chef from Sukiyabashi Jiro come in to serve you. Duck Confit? He's got a French master flown in the next day. Mcdonalds? ....he owns a few for your sake but he's not too happy about it.
His beloved is a foodie and she's going to enjoy food goddamnit. And the idiot that made her feel bad? Well he's being fed to some award winning pigs he'll be happy to dine upon later....
Tumblr media
Yandere!Mikey Sano
He doesn't have very many joys in his life now that he's lost so much and is the head of the notorious Bonten group. But what does brighten his life a little is sharing meals with you.
You're the only person that can get him to eat so much, even his closest underlings notice that when he's with you he's chowing down food like never before. So long as you are spoon feeding him, he'll eat every bite.
Also loves how much you eat. You love food and he loves you if this is how he can bring you joy then he'll make sure you've got plate after plate. But the second you try to say "I'm not hungry..." he knows somethings up.
Finds out who's been making fun of you and makes sure they starve slowly and painfully. "If my Y/N doesn't get to enjoy food, then neither do you."
Eventually convinces you it doesn't matter what others say and spoon feeds you for a change. "C'mon, its you're favorite. Say ah~"
Tumblr media
Yandere!Sanzu Haruchiyo
Loves the fact that you eat like a beast. No one can put it away like his baby and he thinks all that good food goes straight to his favorite plushy places >:3c!!!
Miiiiiiight have a bit of food kink. "Your lips look so good around that hotdog but I got somethin' else you can deep throat-! OW!" Ok ya, he knows to leave you alone when you eat....
When he notices you're not eating as much though he does try to ask about it. "What? Is it the coke? That shit'll mess up your appetite babe. Wait you're not on drugs?"
Puts two and two together and doesn't accept that as a reason for not eating. "Don't worry bout that fucker baby, daddy'll handle it. Now open wide, I got some nice steak here for ya~"
He's a total perv, but he still loves you very much. Feeds that asshole that made fun of you to sharks. Then has the sharks killed, and made into sushi and soup. He wonders if you'll think it tastes good.

two thoughts after episode 7 of burrow's end:
our stupendous stoats were right to remove the leadership of last bast. things could not continue as they were, it was directly oppressive and honestly a bit of a pressure cooker. i don't think it necessarily had to come at the expense of learning more facts. this isn't a war with eastasia thing; there are humans, and they are coming back. having a plan isn't antithetical to dismantling oppression('burn it down' hurts a lot more people than just the ones you're overthrowing)
i think the best course of action from here is roping in bennett, who could probably get the rest of the... secondary leadership? the twins, etc. to help them form a plan going forward
there are lots of reasons to know if someone is attracted to you!
also. the first time we meet the lukura, all the way back in episode one, is such fun foreshadowing! thorn being worried about the size of the group and not wanting to stay in one place too long. viola's not-clothes that are also very clearly clothes and makeup. the badger, a huge and scary creature that's going with the lukura but has its own unique instincts(in the badger's case, due to not being a stoat... though, the first stoats aren't really stoats anymore, are they?). the mint. viola is the moon... but what would it be like, to be the sun?

All fire emblem stories suck actually, it's a combination of the characters interacting and the gameplay giving characters weight that makes them fun. When people say a story sucks for FE, they mean that they don't like the characters or how they're characterized
FH is consistently rated for having a good story because the environment is the most conductive for interesting character interactions, and thus characters have the most dimension in a FE game. It allows a ton of characters to bounce off of each other in different ways, depending on the route you take. the story matters only in the context that it allows characters to interact, so while FH is successful in allowing that, the story in a writing sense is not that much better than other FE games, it just better facilitates characterization. FH doesn't have the best story in FE, but it does have the story that involves the most characterization opportunities. So in a stupid pedantic way, it's the best story for a FE game to do its thing with.
Engage is said to have a bad story not because it's worse than any other FE story, but because FH's story allows characters to bounce off of each other so efficiently, going back feels like going straight to hell if you liked what FH did
however, despite characters being FE's greatest writing strength, it ignores character development completely in most situations. At best, you go through an arc to get recruited, and that's it. lords are exempt from this as, obviously, the player always has to use them and therefore will always care about them to some extent. There are other exceptions as well, but they're mostly characters who aren't units and thus the writers know that each player will have the same amount of experience with them.
This fact is shown best by how supports are implemented - they rarely result in character development, but rather bounce the characterization of two characters off of each other in an isolated instance. Supports don't change characters at all, they just let you know more about them, which may result in you liking the character(s).
This is missed potential because it's an entire dimension of character writing that FE barely touches, and it is often integral to character based writing. Nobody really gets to change, they're either predisposed to good and join the good guys or predisposed to evil and eventually die. Thus because characters cannot change or develop, their personalities either suck and thus you don't care, or they're good and you like them.
This writing style is a consequence of the fact that units are rarely force deployed for your entire game, and thus mileage varies like crazy on whenever a player cares about the character and is cheering for their development, or just has them permanently sitting on the bench and is going "Who the fuck are you, you're not fighting with me" when they get all dramatic in cutscenes.
Permadeath contributed to this problem, but ultimately permadeath is just a forced method of benching a character, and so long as there are many units to choose from, character development won't be as present in FE, and thus FE will continue to fall short of other character basted stories, even if its characterization is often very good.

Test Subject
Tumblr media
You're having fun just observing your girlfriend work until she wants you to try out a new invention.
Shuri Udaku × fem reader
Tumblr media
You sat on the work table as you watched Shuri move back and worth, fixing an equation, testing an algorithm, welding something, printing something. The process in which her inventions are made were fun to watch. You occasionally went on your phone to scroll through posts or watch news. And sometimes you would even get you two food.
She took spoon fulls as she worked, and you would feed her if she didn't want to be distracted. The both of you built up a routine while in the lab. She worked and you would occasionally help her. If she had a meeting, you would just monitor the printer. At some point she let out a sigh and took a seat in a chair.
"What is wrong, love?" You questioned. Her hands rested in her lap and her eyes studied the mechanism in front of her.
"The mechanism has a high chance of failing." She stated sternly. "Well test it." Her hands went to her mouth, biting at her nails. You saw her eyes light up and looked over at it. You knew that look to well. You folded your arms over your chest.
"We've been over this." You breathed out. She made her way to you and held your hands. A pleading look plastered on her face. "Usana." She cooed. "It will only take a minute." You looked behind her at the workspace. "It's something for your own suit, Shuri." You sucked your teeth. "And your suit kinda scares me." You trailed off at the last part.
Shuri couldn't hold her laugh in. The fact that her own suit scared you said alot about it. She loved it, but almost found it amusing. "It'll take 2 seconds, please!" She begged even more. You looked into her eyes and couldn't resist anymore. "Fine." You sighed.
"Yes!" She jumped up.
She stood you on a platform and made any last touches to the suit. You looked at yourself in the mirror, touching the black and gold embellishments carefully. You turned around for her to make sure the back was fine. "You know, you should wear this more often." Your girlfriend said as she checked you out. You turned your waist and hit her gently earning a giggle in return.
"Okay now turn to me." You turned around to look at her. "Now put your arms out in front of you." You lifted your arms carefully. "Now, listen to me carefully. The force of the blasters can break your arm." Your eyes widened. "What?!" She chuckled.
"I do not mean to scare you love, but it is true. Open your stance and bend your knees for more support." You followed her orders with your arms still out in front you. "Now, there is a sensor in the palm. Press it firmly when you're ready to shoot." You nodded. "Don't do it yet!" She screamed fast. You turned to her shocked. "Bast! I'm not going to kill you!" You let out.
You watch as she brought out a test dummy and set it in front you. She stepped back and pressed her kimoyo beads, recording you. "Okay go, be careful."
You nodded. Nervous wasn't a word that could describe what you felt in the moment. It took all your strength and pride to even make it to this point. You took a deep breath and squeezed your fingers into ur palms. A blast shot right through the dummy. Shuri jumped in excitement.
"Let's go!" She ran to the test dummy checking the damage. A hole straight through it. Only thing she didn't see was the blast that went through your body. You felt as though someone shocked you with electricity. Your vision slowly turned black and your hearing became foggy. Shuri running to you was the last thing you saw.
...
You hear the sound of Griot speaking faintly. "Heart rate back to normal, returning to consciousness." Your eyes meant the ceiling of the lab. You felt the bed beneath and saw the holograms of your vitals around you. You sat up on your elbows. "So it didn't work?" You said faintly. Shuri turned around immediately.
"Y/N I'm so sorry my love. You know I never wanted to hurt you. I just wanted to test it out. I should've listened to you. Are you hurt anywhere?" She cupped your face turning it side to side. You giggled at her concern. "I am fine, darling. Do not worry. It was a success, no?" She sighed and smiled. "Yes, but I care about you right now." She kissed your forehead.
You held her wrists. Her concern and selflessness made you fall for her the first time and continues to make you love her even more. You were just glad her tests were successful.
And that you were alive.

Joseph Quinn Characters' Favorite Disney Movies
(according to wheels, who definitely spent a normal amount of time on this)
Tumblr media
EDDIE MUNSON The Sword in the Stone. He's probably a Peter Pan enthusiast too, but the one where the gangly orphan is found by a bad-ass wizard who takes him on adventures and teaches him magic, and he eventually becomes king? That's the stuff fantasies are made of. Eddie Munson's fantasies, to be exact. Bet he totally had an owl obsession at some point because of Archimedes. Deep Cut: Not that I think Eddie has a thing for knights or anything, but Unidentified Flying Oddball. Obscure movie about a nerd in a spaceship accidentally landing in Camelot? Time travel, fair maidens, and weird humor? Eddie would eat it up.
Billy, Ralph, Tom, Leonard and Enjolras below the cut!
Tumblr media
BILLY KNIGHT Dumbo. He calls it his comfort movie, but the poor boy cries during "Baby Mine" every single time. And when Mrs. Jumbo gets locked up. (She was just trying to protect her baby!) And the ending, but those are different kinds of tears. Will also cry if anyone considers killing a mouse instead of doing a catch-and-release. Think of Timothy! Deep Cut: Follow Me, Boys! It's a feel-good found-family movie about a musician who falls in love with a small town that learns to love him back. Minimal trauma, son of a drunk gets a loving family and an ideal father figure, happy endings for everyone!
Tumblr media
RALPH PENBURY Mary Poppins. It's fun, it's magical, Ralph wishes he had a nanny that cool. He loves the mixture of live-action and animation, and never stops wondering how they did it. "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" is one of his favorite words, and he WILL try to work it into everyday conversation. And you know what? He can kind of pull it off. Deep Cut: Babes in Toyland. It's dramatic, it's romantic, it has epic musical numbers, and it ends with a fabulous wedding. It's everything Ralph wants in a picture!
Tumblr media
TOM GRANT The Lion King. It's a classic story told with awesome animals and unforgettable songs. Tom's love of this movie has nothing to do with the fact that Simba reunites with his childhood sweetheart and gets to keep her and rule the kingdom and whatnot. No projection here. Just a good guy enjoying a good movie. Shut up. Deep Cut: Swiss Family Robinson. A family on a deserted island fends for themselves against tigers and pirates and the elements, oh my! And that treehouse? He's definitely spent a bit of time fantasizing about building one of those for himself.
Tumblr media
LEONARD BAST The Great Mouse Detective. I know this feels like a Literary Nerd Cop-Out, but this movie is so clever and full of adventure. Offers a new perspective on a great many subjects - not just the giant toys that aren't freaky at all. Len has no comment on the mouse hookers. Deep Cut: Darby O'Gill and the Little People. Those effects? In the 1950s? CINEMA!
Tumblr media
ENJOLRAS Robin Hood. Vigilante steals from The Man to give to The People? C'mon. Deep Cut: The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh. A vicar in a scarecrow mask leads a gang of smugglers on nighttime missions to evade taxes and the king's goons, thwarting tyranny with street smarts and help from the community at every turn.

The magic of fabrics
[Disclaimer, an old website post that I never wrote down the sources for, though most was wikipedia. I never posted it here but wanted to share]
Introduction: In witchcraft, everything has its own magic. There are entire books on, amongst others, the properties of trees, gemstones and colours. These properties help us guide our magic in the right direction. They help us focus on our goal and add their magic to our own, strengthening it. A lot of witches craft their own talismans, pouches and tools. Using fabrics for their crafts, aligning them with the colour they need to work their spells. But what about the fabrics themselves? The way they were made, the materials they were made from, their history and myth. Why limit yourself to only the colour when working with fabrics? This essay is made up out of three pieces. First the correspondences, an easy and fast way to see what the different fabrics mean and what their magical properties are. The correspondences were put together from history, myth, folklore, dream symbols and my own thoughts about the fabrics. Secondly the trivia, fun facts about the different fabrics which explain where the properties came from. It explains how the fabrics have been used in the past and the myths surrounding them. The final part is a list of materials, showing what the fabrics are made of. This list is included because it can add more depth to the choice of fabric. For example; flannel can be made from wool, cotton or synthetic fibers. Wool flannel could have very different magical properties than synthetic flannel. The same could be said for linen made of flax or linen made of hemp. This essay shows the magic of fabrics. Every symbol used in witchcraft will add its magic to the ritual or to the craft. So this knowledge is not just for the pouches and talismans, but also for ritual robes, magical cords, and everything else the witch could think of. Like everything in magic the possibilities are endless! Happy Crafting!
Correspondences: Canvas: creativity, new beginnings, potential, possibilities Cashmere: comfort, warmth, luxury Chiffon: feminine, delicacy, vulnerable, elegance Cotton: simplicity, harvest, protection, rain, good luck Denim: ruggedness, durability, labour, working, independence, rebellion Felt: protection, good luck, wealth (white felt), sacrifice, strength Flannel: mojo bags, comfort, relaxation, warmth Flax: weakness of man, prosperity, gift of the gods, Hulda Gauze: uncertainty in wealth, healing Hemp: travel, burial, trance, opening gates and doors, vision, enlightenment, Bast Lace: sacredness, rite of passage, feminine, privilege, sensuality, sexuality, duality Lamé: luxury, wealth, royalty, sun or moon Leather: protection, covering, animals, instinct Linen: righteousness and purity, does not cause sweat, rest, elegance, luxury, sophistication, light and purity, (display of) wealth Satin: lustrous, sensual, shine, love Silk: wealth, luxury, softness, smoothness, prestige, transformation, magical insulation Velvet: distinction, honor, sensuality, emotions, royalty, leadership Voile: secrets, unveiling, hidden, wedding Wool: Hope, renewal, spinning, women’s crafts, durability, comfort and warmth
Astrological signs and fabric correspondences: Aries: lamb’s wool Taurus: leather Gemini: gauze, chiffon, voile Cancer: flannel Leo: lamé, brocade, velvet Virgo: cotton, canvas, chintz Libra: silk, satin Scorpio: snakeskin Sagittarius: spandex, lycra Capricorn: mohair, cashmere, hemp Aquarius: feathers, metallic fabrics Pisces: rayon, nylon, watermarked taffeta
Elements and fabric correspondences: Earth: leather, wool, cotton, felt Air: chiffon, voile, gauze Fire: satin, lace, velvet Water: silk, satin, taffeta Spirit: hemp, linen, felt
Trivia: Cashmere: The goat is considered a ‘clean’ animal in the Jewish community. In the past a goat was sacrificed to honor a special guest. In the bible the goat is seen as ‘those who do not need God’. They are stubborn and world wise and God keeps them away from his followers. It was Napoleon’s second wife who made cashmere popular with the aristocratic community. According to lore, Napoleon had brought her seventeen scarves made from cashmere and she loved them. It became a must-have for the wealthy.
Cotton: Burning cotton was thought to cause rain. Planted or scattered in the yard it keeps ghosts away. In the black community of Georgia it was said that a newlywed couple that slept on a cotton mattress during their wedding night, would always have money. See: Linen
Felt: the Mongolians tied felt amulets to their horses before going to battle, they believed felt brought good luck and protection from evil spirits. Mattresses with felt protected against scorpions and snakes. Brides used to be seated on a seat of white felt during the wedding ceremony. The yurts of the Mongols are also made from felt. The whiter (newer) the felt, the wealthier the person who lives in it. They also made fetishes out of felt which they hung in their yurts. Foxes over children’s beds for peaceful nights, horses over the hearth as a totem of the sky and a man shaped fetish at the door to represent the man of the yurt or the guardian spirit. This is still in use today. The Turkmen nomads sacrificed their animals on felt. The Romans used felt in their armor and shields to protect the men wearing them. See: Wool
Flannel: Originally Turkish red flannel was the best quality flannel that could be bought. Mojo bags are almost always made from red flannel. This goes back to the time of the slave traders. Flannel was a sturdy and cheap fabric that was given to the slaves to be made into underwear. The slaves turned the scraps into mojo bags. In the 1880’s it was thought that flannel underwear protected against diarrhea and dysentery.
Flax: the Egyptians thought that flax was a gift of the Gods. Linens woven from flax are found in ancient Egyptian tombs. The Teutonic Goddess Hulda looks over spinning and specifically the cultivating of flax. It is said that She taught how to spin flax into fabric. In Estonia, a spirit known as the Flax Mother guards the flax and is said to live in a linen press. See: Linen
Hemp: sails used to be made from hemp fibers, they were the only thing that could withstand the ocean winds. The deceased used to be buried in hemp. Hemp was sacred to the Goddess Bast. A sacred incense of cannabis flowers and cinnamon was burned every morning in honor of the Goddess Bast or Isis. Korean men wore paji ma, hemp pants that they thought brought virility and power. See: Linen
Gauze: Dream symbolism says that being dressed in gauze means that you are ‘uncertain in your wealth’. Gauze used to be made from silk, thus you have a luxurious, wealthy fabric, that is full of holes. This would explain the dream symbolism. Nowadays gauze can be made from any material. Cotton gauze is the gauze used for dressing wounds and other medical purposes.
Lamé: In the past entire clothing pieces were constructed using gold of silver yarn. In these cases the metal was wrapped around yarns of silk or cotton. It was said that these fabrics were ‘befitting a princess’. Nowadays lamé is made by gold, silver or even copper which has been wrapped around aluminum or stainless steel threads.
Linen: the ancient Egyptians used linen as a currency. Egyptian mummies were wrapped in linen. During the wrapping of the deceased, the priest would stop to say prayers and write on the linen. In Ireland linen is thought to absorb energy. Therefore strips of cloth were considered appropriate offerings. The scraps were infused with a disease of a prayer and then tied to a tree. Linen is mentioned over a hundred times in the bible. It is seen as a fabric of earthly power and success, worn by important people with influence and wealth. ‘Fine linen’ is often mentioned when talking about pure and righteous women. The temples of God were clothed in fine linens as should the people who come to them to worship.
Satin: The more expensive satins are made from silk, the others from nylon or polyester. In the Middle Ages satin was always made from silk and therefore only worn by the wealthy.
Silk: It’s been said that silk is a ‘natural magical insulator’, meaning that it will keep magical energies contained within itself and protects its contents from influences of the outside world.
Velvet: In paintings the use of velvet symbolizes leadership and royalty. Queens and leaders such as Napoleon are often depicted wearing velvet or having velvet draped over various furniture.
Voile: The name means ‘veil’ in French.
Wool: In the bible wool is thought of as pure, clean and free of sin. For this reason it was not allowed to mix wool with linen, for it would not be pure anymore. God’s children are seen as sheep and Jesus Christ is sometimes portrayed as the ‘Lamb of God.’ See: Felt
Materials: Burlap: jute plant, sisal fibers Calico: unbleached cotton Canvas: cotton, linen, hemp (ancient times) Cashmere: goat wool Chiffon: cotton, silk, synthetic fibers Chintz: glazed and printed calico Cotton: cotton plant Denim: cotton Felt: sheep wool Flannel: wool (ancient times), cotton, synthetic fibers Flax: flax plant Gauze: silk (ancient times), cotton, synthetic fibers, metal Hemp: cannabis plant Lace:  silk, linen, gold/silver threads, cotton (modern) Lamé: metallic yarns Leather: animal skins Leather (fake): a textile base, often cotton, with a synthetic layer, often PVC Linen: flax, textiles in a linen-weave texture, even when made of cotton, hemp and other non-flax fibers are also loosely referred to as “linen”. Mohair: Angora goat hair Muslin: cotton Nylon: synthetic polymers Organza: silk, nylon (modern), polyester (modern) Rayon: semi-synthetic cellulose fiber Satin: silk, nylon, polyester. Satin is a type of weave with a glossy front and a dull back. Silk: cocoons of silkworms (moth larvae), this is a protein fiber, similar to wool or human hair. Suede: animal skins, mostly lamb Suede (fake): mostly cotton or silk Taffeta: silk or synthetic fibers Tulle: polyester, nylon Velvet: velvet can be made from many kinds of fibers Velour: cotton, cotton blends, polyester Velour de panne: polyester blend Voile: cotton or cotton blends with polyester or linen Wool: sheep wool

3, 7, 12 and 20! polytheist asks >:D
Oh you want me to THINK? You want me to use my BRAIN??? You are EVIL Cheshi lol
3: Is your practice more ritualistic or casual? What does it look like?
Oh my practice is extremely casual. I always hated the strict religious upbringing I had. "You do it this way, or else!". Nah fam, that's not cool. Everyone is gonna have their own way to worship, have faith, and perform religion (Yes I believe religion is a performance, but that's for another time lol). Anyways, I don't generally do much in the way of ritual because that's so much fucking work. I prefer just kinda chilling with Nyx on the full moon and calling it a night lol.
7: What does your ideal altar look like?
Chaotic, unhinged, and personal. I don't need it to be set up perfectly or invoke certain vibes, unless trash fire goblin is a vibe lmao. I really just put whatever on my altar I think fits. Right now, unfortunately, my altar isn't exactly what I want, because I don't really have space and the last time I set up an altar, Goose knocked it over. She was a brand new baby then, but even so I'd rather play it safe. I have this great cabinet at my parents house I plan on repainting and using when we have a house of our own. Its a really great size, glass doors so I can see what's inside, and bonus: cat's won't break any glass bottles on my altar lol. Rn I just have this very cue little moon shelf about 3 inches wide on a windowsill.
12: How important is mythology in your practice? How much credit do you give it?
I mean, mythology is the sourcework of all of my beliefs. I wouldn't have found Nyx, Hekate, Athena, and Artemis without Greek mythology, Bast without Egyptian mythology, or Loki without Norse mythology. Do their stories have any bearing on my beliefs? Not really. Them being the deities of their respective realms is all I really need. I know Nyx as the night, Hekate as magic, Athena as wisdom and intelligence, Artemis as the protectress, Bast as the keeper of cats, and Loki as chaos. How I interact with them is more based on my needs, versus what they have "done" in the myths that survived. Myths aren't any bit literal, just like any other religious text. We as humans are always interpreting things based on our own preconceived notions, our own beliefs, and that's not always what the original source intended. In fact, I'd argue that any human interpretation of the divine is automatically wrong. No single human belief can 100% be accurate. We will all have our own ideas of how things work. I, as a singular person, should not put any undue influence on myths that I personally think are worth "more" just because they are considered to be valid religious texts (cough cough Christians and the Bible cough cough). Myths are stories. They're fun, its fun to imagine our deities in various human scenarios. But the Divine are much more complex than their myths. I give the myths the same level of credibility I would any other that indirectly influenced my way of viewing the world. I wouldn't be who I am without the sum of the things I've read and learned over the years.
20: List a few of the deities you worship and associate each with a quote you think represents them best!
Oh lordy, you're killin me with this one Chesh lol.
Nyx: "I see the moon and the moon sees me/Nyx bless the moon and Nyx bless me" (see what I did there lmao?)
Bast: Specifically the same noise my cat makes when shes singing in the mirror. That it that's the quote lol.
Athena: All that bullshit about "tomato is a fruit but you don't put it in a fruit salad" lol. Also "Ho don't do it... oh my god" for whenever I do something (even mildly) foolish lol
Loki: OKAY SO little bit of backstory here: when I was just getting into my paganism, I was in a really shitty spot in life, physically, mentally, you name it. I came up with this phrase to help get me through it, and I generally proclaimed that anything wrong in my life was because of Loki (AS A JOKE, THEY LOVED IT). The quote was: May the deity who looks upon me in disdain look upon you with favor. It got me through shit, still does, and I still love Loki, even if they aren't my main deity anymore.
CHESHI YOU ROCK

now that burrow's end has concluded i have some thoughts about it.
i think there are some seasons of dimension 20 that really hit the mark for the story they're trying to tell, and this was one of them. this season felt like it was the exact right length for the timespan it encompassed. they hit the horror beats in a way that stuck throughout the season and paid off, while not neglecting the social aspect and the comedy. when there was a need to speed things up, they did, and vice versa.
part of that was aabria's planning and work with the d20 crew. the sets really leaned in on the body horror from the beginning and set an expectation for what the tone of encounters was going to be. the stupendous stoats were fighting for their lives the instant they saw the bear, and they really strapped in from there. the addition of the tapes from carlos? perfection.
i do think that there was some intentional vagueness around exactly how the world functioned wrt the radiation and how the stoats survived it. but it didn't need to be fully fleshed out to have an impact on the story. all that was needed was 1) this is the source of magic powers, 2) something happened that caused the release of it into the blue forest, 3) that thing happened in a nuclear facility that is now occupied by stoats. it's how the stoats understood it. they had some remnants of knowledge and the work that they'd done in the last 20 years. no one's becoming a nuclear engineer really until lila gets her phd. most of the experimentation was in weaponry and biological tampering rather than specifically the blue.
aabria iyengar has a real talent for locking in on character encounters and using them to drive the story. she deliberately makes space for them, and in burrow's end, it was critical to the character arcs and the resolution of family trauma in particular. there is no offhand comment for a help action. you have to commit to the things you say and do. and that was clearly evident in last bast.
with acofaf, she built the fey realm to promote social interactions as the battlefield. dnd gave the pack of pixies a basis to stat their characters from, but good society drove the story. the primary conflict for a lot of the story wasn't the evil plot that they resolved very quickly. it was the party in the social strata and how they achieved their own goals during the bloom.
in burrow's end, last bast serves as a psychological horror setting that has equal parts danger and social interactions. the fact that they had to build up allies was important to how they approached the ultimate threats. the fact that they were a family unit in a wildly different environment really provided a strong base for every encounter they went through.
system-wise, the leveling progression gave insight into how the players saw the character development. the fact that the party started as martials and partials and shifted into casting classes as a sign of connection with the source of magic? it made tracking stats very fun throughout the season.
as for the timing, there were a couple plot elements that drove the progression--the initial gassing of the red warren and the impending deadline of the humans coming to last bast. otherwise, it was the party that fully upended society.

I have been thinking about what types of notions and things the craft dorm (what I've been calling the Shu/Izumi/Kuro/Mao dorm) would have in their respective kits and ended up making some collages with my thoughts. In order it's Shu, Izumi, Kuro, and Mao. Longer explanation below the cut.
Shu:
Since he canonically makes lace I put all sorts of different lace making tools on his. In the english server it got translated as crochet and crochet lace can be absolutely gorgeous and it's pretty portable so it makes sense, hence the steel hooks. The other lace making tools are bobbins and a bobbin pillow and a tatting shuttle. While tatting is the "lesser" form of lace making compared to crochet and bobbins, it's by far the most portable as the thread is wound around the shuttle and to me Shu would probably do tatting on the plane to/from Japan and France. Also included for him are pretty generic sewing notions, your pins and pincushion, scissors, a needle and thread, t-pins, and beeswax. T-pins can be used to block the lace as well, and the beeswax is for hand sewing. Fun fact but if you run your thread over beeswax a few times before starting to sew it'll help strengthen your thread and prevent it from splitting! Shu also heavily prefers working with natural fibers over synthetic.
Izumi:
Guy absolutely uses DPNs (double pointed needles) for his knitting, at least when it comes to socks and hats. I believe in some of the examples of his knitting we've seen he has done cabling so a cable stitch holder is there as well, though I can imagine he does it without it too if it gets lost. He also has a ball winder and I wish I had thought to put a swift on here too but like Shu, he prefers to get natural fibers over synthetic and hand dyed wool is great but it comes in hanks which areeeeeee hard to work with so a swift and ball winder would be necessary for him. Also included are more t-pins, a blocking board, stitch markers, and yarn needles.
Kuro:
To me, Kuro is the type of guy to make scrap quilts with left over fabric from the outfits he makes for his friends (and also out of like old shirts his sister has grown out of), so he has a huge scrap fabric pile he's constantly thinking about what type of blocks to make them into. I feel like he'd also make his own appliques for these quilts and would use basting spray to hold those down, obviously. Also the type of guy who just carries spare buttons on him in case of an emergency. Also has a seam ripper, scissors (thread, fabric), a tailor's measuring tape, and a cutting board.
Mao:
I know he doesn't really craft but to me? He's a crocheter. He tried knitting once and failed very badly but crochet (in my opinion at least) is a lot easier to grasp for beginners and I think he made the dorm a few dish cloths at first but mostly makes amigurumis now of his favorite manga characters, as well as little toys for his friends, hence the safety eyes. Probably works more with synthetic fibers due to ease of accessibility and variety of colors, though he tries not to buy too much of the same color unless he knows what it'll be used for. Also has stuffing, yarn needles, stitch markers, and a little crochet hook carrying case.
General Notes:
There were some things I didn't think to add until after I had already finished all of these collages, and some things that were things I thought everyone would have. To start, Shu would obviously also have a blocking board for his lace blocking, and as mentioned earlier Izumi would have a swift. Shu probably also has a swift and ball winder or just borrows Izumi's when he buys anything heavier than thread for crochet (which isn't often so I'm leaning more towards borrowing). Kuro would also have a bar of beeswax for the same reason as Shu, as well as maybe a thimble? Though I suppose it depends on how much he cares about his fingers being callused from the needle. Shu has a thimble. I also think all four of them would have some sort of project bag, whether it's just an old backpack or something a bit more expensive, they all have something that allows them to take their crafts on the go.
Anyway that's all I had but please tell me your thoughts if you want :3

Imagine Going Out For Drinks With Caine
Tumblr media
Caine X FemReader
Rating: T+
Warnings: Drinking and teasing
Word Count: 1.2k
Part 1: here
Requested by @redz0mbie
(A/N:) I’m so glad everyone is enjoying my Caine writings! As soon as my requester said that if I wrote another part she’d be interested I immediately got some ideas to do! While I enjoy writing for Caine I do have to say it is dang hard to find gifs and I am really surprised by the lack of JW4 content! The movie is amazing and deserves to be so much more popular! But if I will do what I got to do to bring my Caine readers the content they want/deserve! Until next time happy reading! ~Countess
Caine leaned against you while you guided him down the street. The rain didn’t care that you both were already soaked as it continued to pour. Sloshing through puddles and keeping the umbrella over your heads. Despite Caine saying he needed your help, he continued to help you find this bar he knew about by telling you where to turn and which streets. Dripping wet and even more exhausted from trudging through the rain, a couple blocks later and the oasis Caine promised loomed ahead. It was late and you were shocked that such a place would still be open on a weekday. Caine left your side going to the front door, where he opened it and held it open for you. You left puddles on the floor as Caine waved a golden coin to the bouncer who stared at you intenstly. Like you were some threat, maybe to the dryness of the floor but blame that on the rain.
Caine took your arm and lead you further in, heading closer to the back away from the bouncer who continued to stare and the bar tender that glared in your direction. They made you nervous like your offense was something more than leaving a trail of grimy rain water wherever you walked.
“Are you sure it’s okay that I’m here,” you whispered once you and Caine sat down at a table.
“Why wouldn’t it be okay,” he asked while tapping at the drink menu and pretending to read it.
You laughed and shook your head. “Cause those two dudes don’t seem to like that I’m here.”
“Screw them,” Caine replied waving his hand at said guys. “Two bourbons. No rocks.”
The bartender nodded, this time glaring at Caine. If he could sense the man’s stare, Caine didn’t let on. Normally, you wouldn’t start with such a hard drink, but being soaked to the bone left you freezing. You looked forward to taking your mind off the fact that you were shivering uncontrollably. While you were enjoying your time forgetting your problems, your mind wondered towards ideas of hot showers.
“Now that I got you out of the rain are you too good to talk to this blind man,” Caine teased, ripping you from your fantasy of hot water, dry clothes, and a warm bed.
“No,” you jumped suddenly feeling guilty. Glasses were set down before you both, interrupting your explanation. Caine just grinned, clinking his glass against yours that sat untouched on the table.
“Drink up.”
He took a hearty drink and waved for some more, the bartender came back but this time just left the bottle in front of Caine.
“Oh sure now you’re mister happy fun time now that I drug you from that puddle you were basting in,” you teased nursing your drink while Caine poured him another.
“Booze makes any man happy,” Caine retorted moving his hand across the table as he felt for your glass. Before you could take it away from his searching hand, he had it and poured more liquid adding to what you hadn’t drank yet. Taking it back you held it from his reach. You wanted a drink with him, you didn’t want to get drunk. You still had to work in the morning and a hangover would make functioning way harder than necessary.
Minutes went by and then turned into hours. Your phone had died before you even had come across Caine so you didn’t know what time it was. All you could tell was that it was late as your yawns began to come more frequent and your eyes grew sleepy. Caine was drunk but not as bad as most men would be at the amount of liquor he drank. At your suggestion he laid another coin down and slid from the chair. On wobbly legs he started towards the door, with you right on his heels. He’d apparently had been here often as he didn’t have any issues finding the front door. You kept from looking at the bouncer as he held the door open.
Back on the streets, you could feel the tension melting away. It had been a nice bar but you couldn’t help but feel unwelcome there. Like an outsider who just happened to stumble inside. You honestly wanted to ask Caine why you felt that way, but you couldn’t bring yourself to ask. You also had the feeling that he wouldn’t share his wealth of knowledge about the place either. Your exhaustion kept you from pushing further, just ready to get home but you couldn’t leave Caine alone in his state.
“Do you have a place to go,” you asked.
Caine breathed deep and sighed before nodding. Once again he leaned up against you, leading the way but needing your support as his drunk state making it harder for him to walk. New York was relatively quiet and the lack of people on the streets showed how late it was. You nervously looked around at the vacant streets, the sense of being watched cause shivers to rack your body. Caine held you closer, thinking you were just cold. He wasn’t entirely wrong as your soaked clothes did nothing to protect you from the chilly breeze. In moments a large hotel loomed before you both and Caine pointed towards the front doors.
The lobby was gorgeous and so large you couldn’t believe you never realized that such a hotel was here. You were also shocked to see several people still up and chatting together in the lobby. The amount of stares on your back caused you to shiver as you helped Caine to the front desk. The concierge standing poised and stoic behind his counter had a small smile on his lips.
“Good evening,” he spoke. “I take it you’ll need a room for two this evening?”
“Yes,” Caine replied.
“No,” you stiffened at your outburst. But you could tell when you didn’t belong somewhere and your danger sense was ringing off the charts. You couldn’t put your finger on the sense but it felt like you had walked into a lion’s den and you were a wounded zebra.
“Sorry,” you cleared your throat, “I will just be leaving him here. I found him outside in the rain and I couldn’t leave him. Please make sure he’s well taken care of.”
Caine gripped onto you tighter, not wanting to lose one more person that he was growing fond of. But the weight of your stiffened body language told him the complete story and he couldn’t blame you. You walked right into a den of assassins, into a world where normal people like you could never understand or become a part of. Slowly he leaned more on the counter while the concierge came around and helped Caine to a chair. He nodded at you in understanding. You turned to leave but paused, the surrounding people still staring, watching the scene unfold before them. You whirled around making your way back to Caine and placed a gentle kiss to his cheek.
“Maybe we can go for drinks again soon,” you whispered. “I’ll take you to my favorite bar.”
“It’s a date,” he whispered back, sightless eyes searching as he grinned.
Once again you turned, trying to calmly exit the building when all you wanted to do was sprint out. The rain had finally stopped and you took it as a sign of new beginnings as the history of your and Caine’s horrible day washed down the street’s drains.

Final words for School of Dragons
I'm inevitably gonna make other posts about the game but I just wanted to make a like, "final thoughts" sorta post while I uh... cope with this shutdown.
Tumblr media
It's a bit of an understatement to say this game is a part of me. When people asked me about my favorite games, School of Dragons would always be on that list. People always look so underwhelmed when they saw it. They would even say it was a bad game. I just never cared. It had everything I wanted and it was good enough to me.
This game is the reason I got attached to the HTTYD world. Not the other way around. When Hiccup said goodbye to Toothless, I only cried because I thought about losing my own dragons when this game would inevitably, someday, go offline. I feel like I'm actually friends with all of these characters and enemies with the antagonists. There were arcs of understanding and misunderstanding. I even had dreams about my life on Berk, the Edge, and in the world itself. I prided myself in my ability to fly any dragon and fly them well. I could win races against furies with Monstrous Nightmares.
I grew with the progression of these movies and the game. When each event happened in the world, I experienced it with them. I experienced the events of the movies and the shows as they were released in the real world. Actual years of adventures with the gang, the antagonists, and my dragons.
It's so weird to care about something so much that isn't technically real. I guess this is just the reality for people like me, especially with the childhood I had. Feeling lonely without friends or a typical family. I'm pretty sure y'all know what I'm talking about and I barely need to explain it. Having a world to escape to and live in when the real world doesn't do it. Having something to inspire you and make it all worth it in the end. I guess it's just a lonely person thing. A lonely person with a lot of love who can't contain it. So you put it on something that inspires you when no one else will take that love. Maybe it's cringe, but idk.
It makes me feel better to know that others feel the same way. That's what I've been trying to think about this whole time. The fact that I was so lonely usually. That I've never really had anyone to play this game with and despite having fun and loving every single minute, I just never had anyone to enjoy it with. Now that I'm trying to bring people together, I finally have some people with the same interests as me. I wouldn't have started work on a role-play, or a discord server, or any of this if the game wasn't shutting down. I'm trying to think of it as a new beginning. Let's be honest. I wasn't playing the game as much as I used to. I got too busy, I wasn't invested sometimes. I often just came back for the racing. To have something I love be taken like this, it's enough to make me invest again.
When it came to my older dragons, I got them all to titanwing when the prices went down. I never grew them, so I took this opportunity. I grew Virgilio the monstrous nightmare, Bast the shockjaw, Thora the skrill, Eliott the stormcutter, Akeldama the death song, Hero the deathgripper, and Garipald the triple stryke. Of my main dragons, there was one I couldn't grow to the titan stage due to it not being in the game yet, my flame whipper, Prunella.
Tumblr media
I can't say I have a favorite dragon. I love them all in different ways. I have amazing memories with all of them. She's really just... the dragon I would never see myself without. I wasn't expecting to find such an amazing friend in a flame whipper. When I imagined my "main" dragon I always imagined a monstrous nightmare, or maybe a beautiful stormcutter. It was a flame whipper, a dragon I didn't even know about before playing this game that got to me.
She couldn't grow to titan because of the simple constraints of the game. I've thought about drawing her as a titan but I just supposed they would add it someday. Now that I know that day is never gonna come, the only way she can grow is outside of the game, by my hand. Creating my own worlds and stories. My level won't end at 38, I'll keep writing and creating my adventures.
I understand that this is The End for a lot of players. They imagine sending them off to the Hidden World. I understand this, and I think this is amazing, but I think I still have some stories to tell. The timeline will split yet again. I'm not sure when it will be, but me and Prunella will be solving puzzles in crypts once again. Me and Virgilio will race once again. Hero will join me in battle once again. The sun may set today, but it will rise again tomorrow.

one of the little subtleties in season of mists i love is the subtly different way Dream presents himself to the different ambassadors, like even down to what he’s wearing. he’s slightly different for everyone and i love thinkin about the attention to detail, it would have been so easy for him to be just in his full on dream king mode all the time but instead we get this (sorry this is gonna be long but i love this. its a sandman blog this is what u signed up for lol)
the first one to show up is odin, who offers up a prediction of ragnarok containing a fragment of dream’s soul
Tumblr media
dream is in his casual moping outfit, t shirt and probably jeans, but sits above odin. it’s possible this is to sort of remind odin that dream is in charge here, since odin is a trickster and considers tricking dream through basically the whole book. the candles are probably a reference to something smart neil gaiman read but i just think they also add to the neat border, separating odin and dream.
he’s also pretty polite to odin, genuinely considering the offer and generally being nice about it (well. nice for dream lol)
next we cut to jemmy (ambassador for chaos)
Tumblr media
this is immediately distinct because she’s stood so close to him. while odin was a little bit away and dream was sat above him, here thanks to the height difference that’s already there i guess he didnt think he needed to bother
Tumblr media
dream is much harsher to her than odin (although not the worst he gets) the other think i wanna say is i think the image of dream with his balloon is very sweet
Tumblr media
the candles are back when order’s messenger shows up, and he’s put his big dramatic coat on for being big and dramatic in. with the wide shot at the end the candles seem to once again be a barrier, this time against the floating emissary, shielding dream and keeping him in a little circle (whether this is the intention of dream or it’s a fun little bit of imagery to show how isolated dream has made himself, who’s to say)
Tumblr media
he’s also a lot meaner again, outright dismissing kilderkin, which shows that he was being very nice to odin at the beginning. maybe he puts on his coat to be scarier after chaos just straight up threatened him
Tumblr media
i always enjoy a shift in artstyle to represent the perspectives of other cultures, especially dream in similar clothes that i do not know the name of (sorry) also it’s weird seeing him in blue instead of black, obviously the way they draw black often uses blue to highlight but idk it’s just different and i like it. his words are similar to how he spoke to odin, and the offer is considered on the same level
Tumblr media
bast and dream have at least something of a history together (correct me if im wrong it’s a while since i last read brief lives) and are a lot more direct. maybe the short, single word phrases mean he’s slightly taken aback or maybe it means this is the fifth meeting he’s had and he just remembered there’s still more to come and is very tired
also, lovin the collar
Tumblr media
matthew interlude! this is very cute. moving swiftly on!
Tumblr media
in terms of his physical presentation, i think azazel is the most interesting. for one thing, he’s hovering to match, and his cloak thing idk what to call it has a bunch of layers overlapping much like azazel’s many eyes mouths etc. the fact that azazel is the one one to really take offense with his cautious diplomatic tone is fun but not really unexpected, he’s a fucking demon.
oh also he’s back in his t shirt when the angels come and take the key. worth mentioning but i forgot to get screenshots lol

Recently, someone asked me where I draw the line with horror movies. She expected that we all have subjects or scenarios that are a non-starter because they're just too scary, disgusting, or distasteful. I had a hard time answering her question, because that's just not how I operate; like, it used to be that I wouldn't watch any pseudo-snuff fare like FACES OF DEATH, but then I actually saw that movie and realized that I like it. I guess I'm circumspect about movies that focus on sexual assault, because that's the most likely thing to offend me if its "handled wrong" in my rather mercurial opinion, but that still won't stop me. Some people (usually parents) can't stand seeing children in peril, but I definitely don't have that problem. Generally speaking, the more you threaten me with a bad time, the more attracted I am to the challenge of enduring it.
But, with all that on the table--and I have no idea what this says about me--I have a hard time with body horror. And by that, I mean a different thing than what usually comes to mind. Like, often when my personal lord and savior David Cronenberg sends a movie to Cannes, we get all these reports back of walkouts and vomiting in the aisles, and like…I would agree that CRIMES OF THE FUTURE offers one of the most transgressive images ever committed to film, but I can take that. (I'll take it and like it!) However, I'm really afraid of modern slaptstick comedy. It's not that I'm too good for lowbrow humor, but so many movies by folks like the Farrellys and the Zuckers just amount to torture porn for me. They're almost always "funny" mainly at the expense of the body: Somebody always winds up in a situation that's like something out of SALO: 120 DAYS OF SODOM, shitting and pissing their pants, suffering unwanted sexual experiences, eating or drinking something they shouldn't be, and generally being corporeally humiliated to the point that if it happened to you in real life, you'd never come back from it. To me, this kind of material escapes the bounds of actual-comedy and becomes some sort of grim purgative ritual for humanity's profound and enduring sense of shame. There's no joy in the laughter I've heard when I consented to watch such things in group settings, just this weird, shrill, pre-nervous breakdown anxiety that I don't find it at all fun or funny to be around, or to experience myself.
It may also be worth mentioning that I'm somewhat emetophobic. Like when I saw that scene in POLTERGEIST as a kid, the fact that the guy was throwing up at all was just as upsetting to me as the otherworldly reason it was happening. This is a fear that I just-barely have under control as an adult who is forced to live in a body that must occasionally, for perfectly healthy reasons, reject something I put in it.
Anyway, TRIANGLE OF SADNESS is very good, and it has a point to make, and as someone who is not in the luxury yacht class of people, I have a feeling I should enjoy watching a bunch of rich parasites weeping and screaming while basting in their own juices. And as a devoted fan of the horror genre, whose purpose in life is to show you the thing you don't want to see, I should be the target audience for something that evokes such a crystal clear vision of hell. But honestly, I don't know how well I was able to appreciate it while my brain was just going, "Yup, this is pretty much the worst thing that can happen. The worst thing there is. And it's still happening. God I hope this never happens to me. Is it still going on? …yeah, it's not over. I wonder how long this can happen for. I wonder if this happened to you, if you would go through some kind of permanent psychological change. I wonder if that happened to the people who were trapped on that stranded, contaminated cruise that was in the news a while ago. I wonder if that's happening to me now, just because I'm watching this movie. Wait, is it still going on? …Yup, I guess so," etc. I started to get sympathetic cramps, and I felt my face tingling in a way that I only associate with having consumed poison. I started sifting through memories of other movies that made me want to slam on the breaks: certain of the Guinea Pig films, CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, STREET TRASH, NEKROMANTIK 2 when they club the seal, the interminable rape scene in IRREVERSIBLE, Craig Zobel's devastating COMPLIANCE, the grand finale of CENTIPEDE HORROR… I think all of the competing candidates involved extreme violence, which I guess tells you something about how I rate the yacht segment of TRIANGLE even though there are no rapes or murders involved. As it dragged on, I wasn't thinking anymore about how great it was that all the selfish, destructive rich people were having their thin veneer of bullshit dignity ripped away; I was just thinking about how unhappy I was, and how it seemed like I wasn't going to be feeling better any time soon.
Actually I worried that I might have nightmares about TRIANGLE OF SADNESS, and I did. I had a dream that some friends and I saw it at a festival where there was mass sympathetic vomiting, and we later learned that Ruben Östlund had learned some things about human neurology that ensured that what he showed, and how he showed it, was guaranteed to make any viewer vomit no matter what--sort of like the mythical "brown note" that's supposed to make you shit your pants. In the dream, I wasn't sure if I admired his level of calculation, or if I just felt totally manipulated and ripped off by being forced to have a bodily reaction that had little to do with my thoughts and feelings or appreciation for art. And like, maybe option #2 is how I really feel about this movie!
That's not to say that the movie doesn't have strengths besides the extreme horror of being doomed to a human body. It's funny (in other ways), it's got a bunch of great performances, it looks good, and it's reasonably smart. But on that last note, I scanned a bunch of reviews from prominent critics that denounced it as a lite, too-easy version of this form of social criticism, and that may be true. I may not be intellectually equipped to really address that, but it could be that the movie's initial, visceral shocks overwhelm one's assessment of how sharp its philosophical commentary actually is. I'd say this matter requires further examination, but I can almost guarantee that I'll never watch TRIANGLE OF SADNESS ever again as long as I live. And I've seen CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST more times than I choose to admit.
PS I wanted to say something about how weird it is that we've all been sharing this collective dream about extremely rich people experiencing a personal apocalypse on seafaring tourist expeditions--I mean am I the only one who feels like they're going insane from the bizarrely close concentration of a whole bunch of movies and shows that do this exact thing? But now I'm just exhausted, so somebody else will have to work that out. I'll be too busy doing some soul searching about why I find movies that are drenched in blood, guts, and misery so much easier to take than what happens in TRIANGLE OF SADNESS.

Give This Undead Fiend Friend a Name
Like a personal name. I already have what they are, an ouroboros from the Unseen Hand, figured out.
Quick fun facts (brief mention of skin-related body horror in #4)
Occupation: Evil Open-minded necromancer
Ageless, deathless, tireless
No gender in particular--that stuff don't matter once you're with the maggots, bay-bee
Stitches bits of skin onto themself and bits of fur/hide onto their cloak so they can take on another person or creature's shape
Hobbies: Sewing, traveling, terrorizing victims, long walks through the desert wastes and ruined cities of the States, Scrabble tournaments
Dislikes fire, damp conditions (an undead's true nemesis), small dogs, and their boss
Eternal gratitude for sharing suggestions in the tags.
Excerpt under the cut (warnings for skin-related body horror, supernatural horror)
Impact smashed in the back window just as Isaac threw the gear into reverse. Stinging bits of jagged safety glass pelted his neck and shoulder. He met a pair of glowing eyes in the rearview mirror. Not sea-blue but the dull, smoldering red of dying coals set deep in sunken sockets. A gruesome smile, teeth filed to points, cracked open across a pale, craggy face. Isaac had no idea what the creature crawling, spider-like, into the backseat was, but it terrified him more than anything outside the car. He stomped on the emergency brake and scrambled out.
The gaunt thing inside kicked open the rear passenger door. Isaac turned to sprint back to the yard, but skidded to a stop, his escape blocked by the two guardians. He decided to face the bigger threat stepping out of the car. In the evening light, the creature’s skin looked mottled, even its bare scalp. A patchwork of various tans, browns, and whites just like the cloak hanging on its tall frame was a mix of different hides and furs. A swell of nausea rolled through Isaac’s middle when he noticed dimpled scars from stitches outlining each individual patch on the thing’s body.

Another new costume: historical this time!
I’ve wanted to get into historical costuming for a long long time, it’s just taken a while to a. figure out the skills and knowledge needed and b. get all of the pieces done (because of course I had to pick a complicated dress from a complicated decade). I’ve technically been working on this outfit since last fall; I made the chemise and corset back in August or September of last year, I don’t exactly remember, for another costume. I know undergarments are pretty much the most important thing for historical costuming, but MY GOODNESS do they take a while. In addition to the ones mentioned above, I also made a bustle, a detachable ruffled overlay, and a petticoat (the bustle overlay is made out of Halloween fabrics with bats and skeletons and things because of the theory of “no one’s gonna see it, so why not make it wildly anachronistic and fun?”)
The dress itself has three parts: a base skirt with three layers of trim (which took and eternity and a half to pleat), and overskirts with all the floofy fabric (there are tapes inside to hold it into those puffs in the front) and the bodice. That one I don’t think took the longest, but it was definitely the most complicated; interlining, boning at the seams, handsewing of bias tape hems at the top and bottom, a million seams, and so much trim, and that’s not even counting the fact that I had to take it apart and resew it after the first attempt. The buttons down the from were supposed to be velvet to match the ribbons, but the velvet was too thick and didn’t fit in the button coverer, so I went with the same fabric as the dress, a plain black cotton (I got a 25 yard bolt of this and must have used around 15 on this dress between all the parts and all the pleated trim).
I did not make it all in a historical way; inner seams are almost all overlocked (I zigzagged around the edges of the bodice fabric and interlining rather than basting them together so that I didn’t have to finish those seams inside of the bodice) . After all, it’s historical costuming, not recreation. I’m not trying to be 100% accurate, I’m trying to make a cute dress.
I also made a chemisette and cuffs to fill in the neckline and to add some visual depth to an otherwise all black dress (I’m planning to make all my historical clothes at least close to my normal clothing style, so that I feel more comfortable in them). The collar ended up a bit bigger than I would have liked, and I think it looks a little puritanical, but oh well. It is what it is. I can always make a new one in the future if it’s still bothering me.
I made this dress to be 1873, right in the middle of the first bustle era (my favorite era of Victorian womenswear).
The hat was an endeavor. I think I cut the pattern wrong, so it ended up way too tall, so I just kind of folded the sides under and now it’s fine. I’m kind of regretting adding the flowers, but they’re hot glued in (the one time I used hot glue on this hat rather than sewing. Of course.) and I don’t really care enough to fuss around with trying to get them off. I guess I can also always wear it without a hat if it keeps bugging me. At least my hair turned out cute!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All in all, I love this costume. It’s cute, I think it’s flattering, it’s fairly comfy (and shockingly easy to move in; the skirts are a bit heavy, but not too much, the corset and boning don’t actually stop my from bending over if I have to, and the bustle folds up quite easily when I need to sit down). I think I could easily see myself wearing this for hours at an event. It’s a smidge long, but that’s not too much of a problem, and the petticoat pokes out a thing bit at the bottom, but that only serves to keep the skirt hem cleaner. The only real issue I came across with this was stairs, but even then, is was mostly only after I had taken off my shoes and the hem was a few inches too long.
I guess this dress is properly victorian goth, rather than just Victorian-inspired like most of my clothes
