The thought of lifting a weight off of his partner's shoulders when they're exhausted or have no motivation to do something makes him happy. It makes him feel useful, he thinks of it as a way to pay them back for putting up with his smart ass all the time.

✞ Words of Affirmation: Sometimes he just needs to hear from his special someone that they aren't going to leave. As I said before, he's lost a lot of people, most of them being very meaningful to him. He can't bear the thought of another person leaving, so hearing the words come out of his significant other's mouth in sincerity helps soothe his nerves, even if it's just a little bit.

✞ Gift Giving: I feel like Finn would love to give his significant other little trinkets he sees or finds, or little things that reminds him of them. He likes to see the smile on their face when he comes home with a little gift for them. It warms his heart and he can't help but smile too. He also loves to give them things with a lot of sentimental value, whether it be something related to an inside joke, or something they mentioned a while back.

Survey Results: Genders

Questioning

The first question asked participants to indicate whether they were multigender or were questioning. 1196 participants (81.03%) identified as multigender, while 280 (18.97%) were questioning whether they identified as multigender.

Gender categories & combinations

Every gender given was sorted into one of five categories: Fully male, fully female, partially male, partially female, and not binary at all. The following data describes which combination of gender categories people had.

Note on categorization: Although not all people who are men or boys identify with the term “male,” and not all people who are women or girls identify with the term “female,” men and boys were categorized as fully male and women and girls were categorized as fully female for ease of simplicity. People who identified as “everything” or “all genders” were categorized as both fully male and fully female. Demiboys and demigirls, as well as other gender microlabels that were connected to maleness or femaleness, were categorized as partially male and partially female. Genders not at all connected to maleness or femaleness were categorized as “not binary.” It was impossible to know how each person considered themself beyond the options they selected and the labels written into the “other” option, but that information was used to find the closest likely option. Every gender is unique, and it is very simplistic to divide gender into these categories, but this simplicity is necessary for useful data. Otherwise, I would have nearly 1500 different categories.

All participants were divided into one of the following nine categories:

Fully male and fully female (532 participants, 36.04%)

Partially male and partially female (110 participants, 7.45%)

Fully male and partially female (134 participants, 9.08%)

Partially male and fully female (29 participants, 1.96%)

Fully male and not binary (288 participants, 19.51%)

Partially male and not binary (89 participants, 6.03%)

Fully female and not binary (68 participants, 4.61%)

Partially female and not binary (62 participants, 4.20%)

No binary genders at all (164 participants, 11.11%)

To display the number of binary genders that each participant had, this data was divided into larger categories of “both binary genders,” “one binary gender,” and “neither binary gender.” This was done twice. In one version, “binary genders” only included people who were fully that gender. In the other, “binary genders” included people who were fully or partially that gender.

Both binary genders, fully (532 participants, 36.04%)

1 binary gender, fully (540 participants, 36.59%)

Neither binary gender (404 participants, 27.37%)

Multigender people who were, in some capacity, both male and female made up the majority of respondents, but it was not a very strong majority. This is an indication that multigender identities not composed of a male/masculine gender and a female/feminine gender are more common than many people would likely expect, based on an informal tumblr poll.

Gender modality

Gender modality refers to the relationship between someone’s gender identity and what they were assigned at birth. The most common gender modalities are cisgender and transgender, but for many multigender people, it is more complicated than that. This question asked “Which of these gender modality terms do you identify with?” and allowed for participants to select multiple options.

A majority of participants identified as trans, with 1197 people selecting that option (81.10%). Additionally, 90 participants (6.10%) identified as cis.

Gender modality terms beyond trans and cis were also popular among participants. The most common of these terms was transfemmasc, an identity referring to people who identify as both transmasculine and transfeminine. 212 participants (14.36%) identified as transfemmasc. 70 participants (4.74%) identified as isogender, an identity referring to people who are neither transgender nor cisgender, and 82 participants (5.56%) identified as both transgender and cisgender. 164 participants (11.11%) did not identify with any gender modality terms.

An “other” option allowed for participants to write additional gender modality terms they identified with. 15 participants (1.02%) wrote in “genderqueer” as their gender modality. Additionally, 6 participants stated that their intersex identity factored into their gender modality.

What does "abinary" mean and how is it different from being nonbinary?

nonbinary is an umbrella term for any gender that does not fit into the gender binary, as well as genderlessness. nonbinary also includes experiences of partially relating to manhood or womanhood, fluidity that includes manhood or womanhood or having multiple genders including manhood or womanhood. these gender experiences that aren't binary but still relate to manhood or womanhood can be called midbinary. common midbinary genders include demigirl, demiboy, androgyne or people simply identifying as a nonbinary man/woman.

abinary on the other hand is a subset of nonbinary that describes genders that are not related to manhood or womanhood (sometimes people take it to mean they're not related to masculinity or femininity as well). in my book this also includes genderlessness as that is very much not manhood or womanhood, but not everyone does. some of the most common abinary gender labels include neutrois, maverique, aporagender, xenogender and possibly agender.

it's important to note that midbinary and abinary are not mutually exclusive, someone can be both if they are multigender (e.g. someone who is both neutrois and a demiboy) or simply have a more complex experience of gender (e.g. nymgirls/women whose womanhood has nothing to do with binary womanhood/being a woman in an abinary way).

to oversimplify a bit: all abinary people are nonbinary, but not all nonbinary people are abinary.

People need to stop assuming that the term trans has to mean either AMAB Transfemmes or AFAB Transmascs. IT IS AN UMBRELLA TERM FOR ANYONE WHO IS NOT CIS. Need me to repeat it? Yes, of course it includes AMAB transfemmes, and AFAB transmascs. BUT it also means us enbies, and YES this does DAMN WELL include:

AMAB neoboys, demiboys, libramascs, and solarians

AFAB neogirls, demigirls, librafems, and lunarians

Quoigender, Pomogender, and Gender Apathetic people

trans AFABs who are still women and trans AMABs who are still men

if half of your positivity posts about specific identities for nonbinary week are dedicated to either masc or fem identities you're doing something wrong

if you include demiboy and demigirl, the least you can do is include demigender

if you include genderfae and genderfaun, the least you can do is include genderflor

if you include transmasc and transfem, the least you can do is transneutral

and when i say "the least" i mean "this is literally the bare minimum"

this is why in my own queer stuff i keep it as vague as possible to then be able to include as many identities as possible, like, i always make genderfluid posts and not specific subsets, i always make demigender posts and not specific demigenders, i always make multigender posts instead of specific numbers of genders etc. like i want to cover as many "kinds" of nonbinary as possible, and people are always welcome to request their specific identity

but it's also like... when you post it like i saw, you're signalling to people that the only two valid ways to be demigender is either demiboy or demigirl, that the only two ways to be trans are transmasc and transfem, that nonbinary people can still be divided into binaries for each identity and everyone else doesn't really matter.

and i don't think that's the vibe we wanna put out there for questioning nonbinary people to see, for newly out nonbinary people to see and think nonbinary is just filled with more binaries
