i might make a video essay based on my observations but no promises

im just collecting data here and opinions (your opinions are anonymous so dw about it), so im not tryna start ship wars or tell people what they can't and can do (unless you ship the really weird ships like the incest then all i ask from you is to kindly fuck off from my property- this is helpful for me to block those people actually)

some observations so far:

sunstone is extremely controversial (and iterator ships in general), most reasonings being that its toxic in their eyes

regicide is extremely controversial for obvious reasons

there's a good number of people who hate the incest ship(moon x pebbles and surv x monk) and iterators x slugcats (GOOD. PLEASE KEEP IT THAT WAY.)

artihunter is the most popular ship (combining the statistics of most shipped, least shipped and essay responses). its not controversial and the rare responses who say they dont like the ship mainly stem from reasons of being overrated/becoming stale, and view the two platonically (there is one response saying that the ship has caused the deterrence of mentor and mentee dynamics between the two (honestly i would have to agree))

fishstick has similar reasonings with artihunter, but since its the secondmost popular ship overall there's slightly a bit more flak and the fabling "too far apart from the timeline" (artihunter doesn't have this since they're right next to each other in the timeline giving people the idea of them possibly meeting) and general vibes

stemming from artificer being the most popularly shipped, artisaint and artimand seem to appeal a lot of people

a good chunk of people switched from artihunter to another ship after realizing they like that one more (good for them!)

several people dont like nightlight, with their reasonings being that its boring

there's actually a good number of people who believe nightcat isn't as interesting as a character based on fanon

there are people who dislike other ships because it contradicts with theirs (rivulet ships are primarily a victim of this)

people ship the slugcats more than the iterators

people who don't ship the iterators see them as family or buddies

people don't ship monk because they see monk as a child (major consensus) or give off aroace energy

on the iterator side, cw is the least shipped iterator (ui being close second)

Solara:

She’s someone who eats to live, so to say, so eating isn’t a source of comfort for her. (And she would go as far as to say that she doesn’t particularly enjoy eating to begin with, it’s just a necessity). But this doesn’t mean that she couldn’t develop cravings, since a craving is a body’s way of telling that there is a deficiency of something. However, she sometimes indulges in a good steak tartare, a beef roast, a hot cup of tea, or a soda. It depends on the time, the mood, and the situation. (As said, cravings can be something else too)

Leonidas:

During the winter, one of the dishes that will surely bring a smile to his face is a beef stew, where the meat is so tender that it could be cut with a spoon, and in the pot there would be some potatoes, carrots, rosemary, thyme and cranberries (along with other ingredients ofc). During summer he would love a berry sorbet! Something like raspberry or strawberry.

Cyraleona:

She loves smoked salmon. There was a time where she would only want to eat that, and was rather fussy about it. So, in a creamy soup, served with a side of potatoes, as it is, or in a casserole. As long as it had smoked salmon, she was all for it. And she would argue that it works during all seasons (because it does).

Eleonora:

It depends. Because she does enjoy a good steak, since it reminds her of all her "fun" "adventures" with auntie Mereo, where they would eat primarily meat they hunted themselves. But, if she's feeling particularly homesick, or would be in need of comfort, she would ask for some vanilla pudding. (And yes, it would take quite a lot of her wanting to admit that she'd want such a mellow dish, because her spice tolerance is high, and vanilla pudding is such a "soft" dish!) It's a well guarded secret of hers, but her family knows. ;)

im doing it more out of a place of [i want natsuki to be happy as his true self because i know his mind is so expansive and reaches beyond social norms] rather than [i dont know what i am so i’ll project it onto my comfort character] (tho that is a good chunk of the catalyst for this) 

i know its not a big deal 🙄 but i dont want to throw this around lightly. identity is very important to the three of us and helping natsuki figure himself out in anything is smth i handle with extreme care and caution. i dont want to make him feel like he has to skip steps or do it a certain way. 

there was a very real warm-up and introduction to the idea and im very happy he was able to choose for himself in my mind instead of me pointing my finger and going “yes because i say so” i need the rational and realistic buildup of events and its reached its conclusion. ppl hc their f/os as x and y and z for their own reasons in their own ways. this is mine. 

i love natsuki always and if he changes then im right by him. i want him to love the body he’s in and the personality he blesses me everyday with. he’s my everything.

Callie: little kids like her because she treats them like actual people with their own thoughts and personalities. Like a kid will be having a discussion on how Elsa from frozen could win in a fight against hulk and she'll treat it as the outmost important thing in her life. She thinks little humans are cool, doesnt trust herself around babies because she thinks she'll drop them but todlers and little kids? Hell yeah theyre fun

Eliza: she has a 6 year old brother, when she sees a kid her first instinct is *insert mothering* Gets stressed when she sees little kids unatended and has a slight issue of getting involved in issues that are nor hers but it all comes from a good place. Overall her opinion on kids is, theyre cute, doesnt enjoy being much around them cause she will get stressed. Only valid little kid is her brother

Manuel: is quite frankly tired of being all his aunts baby sitters and if he has to tell his godforsaken cousin one more time he cant just stick a pencil up his nose-

Nah he likes kids, will play with them and make dumb jokes to make them laugh

He just doesnt like his cousins Yadiel stop taking my things

Aishah: has no strong opinions on kids, theyre there, theyre nice, sometimes get on her nerves cause they wont stop screaming. Aishah doesnt want kids but that doesnt mean shes apathetic to all kids. Can take care of babies, todlers freak her out a bit more xause shes horrible at making conversation with them.

Nairne: she is the kid/ lh

Nah, small children can be cool but other times they just scream a lot and she really doesnt care much for them much

Its not that she cant like kids, she just hasnt been around many little kids.

So this is an urban fantasy wip and it does take place irl so, most these are canon (but never mentioned)

Callie: avoid facebook/ prominent on tik tok

Eliza: avoid tumblr/ isnt prominent in any social medias really

Manuel: avoid reddit/ prominent on twitter

Aishah: avoid insta/ doesnt have many social medias

Nairne: avoid snapchat/ prominent on tumblr

Callie: yes she was just in the process of getting her lisence when my wip starts! Goes very slow because she practices in her aunts car and if it gets a scratch she dies but is a pretty decent driver! (She made a joke about how she was scared shed fuck up driving cause she was gay and her aunt hit her with an umbrella)

Eliza: CANNOT DRIVE DO NOT LET HER DRIVE OH GOD NONONONONO. Born amd raised in new york she takes subways dont LET HER touch a car

Manuel: can drive!! Very fast and recklesly but is such a good driver he can get away with it. Aishah always holds on to smth when he drives and says he wilm be the death of them all.

Aishah: can drive, doesnt want to. Prefered mode of transportation? Having Manuel drive ofc why do you think she keeps him around/ j

Besides this she likes buses!

Nairne: I dont think she can even get a learners permit at this age idk. She lives in a small town she mostly walks!

In all seriousness yes!!! I loved it, definitely deserves the hype 

The story is beautiful!! I won’t say much so as not to give it away but it deals with mental health issues in a very genuine and unique way and also it’s funny bc it’s like. The devs heard the phrase “recovery is like climbing a mountain” and were like “yeah... a FUCKED UP mountain” 

The gameplay is phenomenal too -- I’ve watched interviews and stuff abt Celeste’s game design, and it’s very much designed to feel good and it WORKS like it just handles?? So well??? The player character just moves cooperatively and it’s so so nice it feels so cool and fluid even when you suck at it!! 

Speaking of which: you know how people say of games like Dark Souls etc that like “oh it’s really hard but that makes succeeding at it rewarding”? Celeste gets that REAL. The levels scale in difficulty really nicely and each of them introducez one or two mechanics that all feel different and fitting with the vibe and learning about them and about each room and how to best play it is SO fun!!! Another one of the things that super, SUPER helps with the learning curve AND the experience if “hard but rewarding” isn’t your speed is the fact that Celeste has accessibility settings!!! Toggle-able difficulty settings like dash assist, turning game speed down, giving yourself two or infinite air dashes, infinite stamina, invincibility even -- I have friends who just walked through the whole story with invincibility and infinite dash on, and myself I played with dash assist and on 90% speed (turning it down to 80% in rooms that gave me trouble) for most of my first playthrough (and it!! Actually taught me how to play with None of those optionz on, though ofc ymmv with that!!) 

Between the settings and the way the game is set up it just Worked for me in terms of feeling like an achievement but not being Too frustrating (there were moments that Got To Me but the skill of Turn Off The Funny Viddy Game is one we must all cultivate :pensive:). I am waxing eloquent for way too long about the gameplay but it just WORKS! SO! WELL!! Celeste teaches you its mechanics so well and plays so wonderfully and the bonus achievements are great and do add More Things To Do. The replayability is also helped by the fact that this game is so designed to be speedrun that it’s making Me (ME who SUCKS at videogames) try to run the first level as fast as I can 

And ofc the overall Vibe: IT’S WONDERFUL?? The music is excellent and the visuals are breathtaking and the way it shows its more conflict-heavy/climactic parts via gameplay and visuals and sound makes me Experience The Forbidden Emotions which personally is my metric for good art 

If you can, definitely give it a go and please feel free to mess with the accessibility settings especially at first 

Warningz for it: there are shakycam and glitch effects in the climactic parts (though these can be turned off in settings; shakycam and rumble both can be toggled and there’s a photosensitive mode, though idk how good it is), and it’s also explicitly a mental health struggle so there’s a lot of manifesting maladaptive coping mechanisms to the point of a character straight up spewing discouraging vitriol at the MC (I will not elaborate on circumstance for spoilerz, but yeah); there are chase sequences; and there’s these fucked up Eldritch looking things that give you grief in one of the levelz

hmm, i think i'd like wind in most weathers. the only one i wouldn't might be when it's super hot and dry? because then the wind is just all hot and unhelpful, and it gets stuff in your eyes and all. it's hard to say entirely, i feel like most tv shows and books and movies had a pretty significant impact just because of how childhood is? where you're just trying to make friends and seem like a cool person, idk. definitely the queer-coded characters, like pidge from voltron (although i only watched a few seasons, and i wasn't super super into it, but yep). also nerds and outsider kinds of characters like leo valdez. i also really loved characters that seemed kind of uptight/boring on the outside, i thought it was always fun to imagine what was going through their minds. but of course, it's always nice to have characters that are just softer and snarkier. ig it depends on the fandom and also point in time, yknow? there are comfort characters who are so open and i just <33 need them to be OK and get comfort. there are more points i had,, i know there are more that make more sense than this but my brain is being unfunctioning today fhsdklfj

yeah that's so true. idk i don't like wind in hot weather cause i can't wear a jacket since it's hot but then the wind attacks my skin SDJFKSLDKFJSLFJ. yeah no that's so true. pretty much any piece of media you consume or anyone you talk to in childhood has some effect on who you are. children are sponges, yknow? slkfjsldjfslfj. always the queer coded characters!! yes!! also the outsider characters exactlyyy yeah. oooh yeah!! uptight/boring characters are always interesting because you always know there's something more to them, and if it isn't explained in the book/show itself then you get to imagine why. yeah no no no i completely get what you're saying. sometimes you need different types of characters. like, when you're a kid sometimes you need those characters who are loud and brave and who aren't afraid to speak their mind and be different because you wish you could do that, too, and you want to learn from them. and then sometimes, maybe when you're a bit older, you need the characters who are more quiet, more reserved, who know how to hold back but who aren't afraid to be themselves around their friends, because you're still trying to figure yourself out.
