I have two moods when I’m sick.
1. Deny, deny, deny. Until it’s gone. Power through everything, and gaslight myself into being fine.
2. Succumb to the plague, subscribe to the mix-N-match combo.
Drainage, and subsequent debuffs, but not runny. Headache, but It comes and goes. Chills and aches like I’m losing in a ghost fight. And random tears, whole shebang, wobbly jaw, frogs, and blindness.

Okay, counter offer, rewind.
What if, when Tim breaks and dips, leaving Danny alone after a heist, someone else approaches Danny?
Like, Danny leaves, halfheartedly giving out his spoils in a daze, absentmindedly making plans to go to the infinite realms (ending with the Nocturne route), and one of his people take notice.
They notice how off he is, too out of it to completely hide the devastation clinging to the edges, or the emptiness growing within (and being a ghost, with his heightened feelings, maybe he’s projecting). How he’s slow and listless rather than the usual thrill and rush post meeting Red Robin.
So, instead of letting him leave, they grab his cold hands in both of theirs (this takes a few tries , since he kept phasing through), and hold on until he’s aware enough to catch and hold his eyes. And then he thanks him.
Then they leave, and another grabs his hands before he can follow. And another. And another.
They thank him for his help. For being there. For staying. For looking twice at them and thinking they were worth it.
(We can also throw in Names have Power (especially the Intentions behind them), and besides Phantom fixating on Red Robin, he’s more known to these people from his actions towards them. The bats help with the crime, sure. But Phantom comes day and night, as both thief and Danny. They long since clocked that they were the same person, it was more of an open secret, they weren’t snitches.)
So, when they Thank Phantom for being there, when they Invoke his name as a protector/ giver, that he’s needed and wanted, it makes a different facet of his Obsession take center stage.
Red Robin- Tim didn’t want him. But these people- His people needed him.
But Danny couldn’t stay in the same city as Tim right now. So he leaves a way to contact him (phone number, communication device, summoning ritual/ spell, maybe a magic mailbox system) and starts traveling.
Gotham City wasn’t the only one with homeless, working girls, or kids needing help, after all.
He continues stealing, but he works silently, no more calling cards, no more birds and bats. It wasn’t about his soulmate anymore.
City to city, and unknowing to Danny, his accidental following/ cult expands with him.
And just for my own indulgence, maybe somewhere along the way, Danny decides he wants to be able to help more long term.
But first he needs legal income, his life as Danny needs to be fool proof, completely above board. He doesn’t want anyone to be able to mess with it again.
So, he takes to inventing. Patents the designs, makes contracts, steadily builds himself up.
When he’s able, he creates a company, buys land and starts building.
Of course his workers, all members of his following/ cult, need someplace to sleep, so he adds an apartment complex next door.
But what about the kids? They need a school of course, maybe he should add a park? Danny thinks, eyeing the old building next to the dormitory.
And it just grows from there. Phantom and his heists for immediate relief, with Danny fallowing steadily behind with new inventions, new shelters, jobs.
Meanwhile Tim had his ‘you don’t know what you have til it’s gone’ realization and is trying to find Phantom, maybe he felt the soulmate bond wilt like before.
His rogues have no consideration for his workload (unlike Phantom).
And maybe he misses the witty quips and mischievous smile.
But Tim can’t find him. He’s nowhere. Gone. Like he just vanished.
Then he hears about a string of mysterious heists, and his gut tells him it’s Phantom, so he investigates every case.
There’s no pattern that he can find, no motive (Phantom didn’t have a motive either, only wanted his atten-), and any digital footage is distorted (just like with Phantom).
He’s always five steps behind. Always too late to the scene. Always too distracted to notice-
He tries to not think about the cold ‘Okay’ on his arm.
(Cue soulmate bond. I decided last words (from when they decided to ‘reject’ the other stayed.)
Tim looked up as a new email pinged on his work computer. Reading it through with a sigh, he mentally subtracted another hour from sleep.
And now WE wants to look into an upcoming engineer by Danny Nightingale.
Jason has also been trying to find Phantom to get some answers for the Lazarus blood problem.
Anger and worry rile him up and eat at him when he lets himself think about how the kid disappeared (after he left him).
Cue time skip montage of Danny bettering himself and others, becoming an eccentric engineer, and ghosty shenanigans.
Somewhere in there his ghosty rogues find him and visit, to hang out or mess with the other heroes until Phantom stops them, either or. It’s the only time Phantom is seen long enough for Tim to spot him. And for the rest of the league to realize how strong Phantom is.
Tim felt kind of hurt when he saw Phantom riding on the back of a motorcycle, arms wrapped around the driver and laughing.
Danny releases a new line of discrete anti-possession accessories, just in case.
“Baby pop!” Phantom looked up to find Ember speeding towards him, arms full of flailing body and curses trailing behind them. The red helmet was a dead give away to his identity.
“Look what I found, can you fix him?” She asked, dropping the Red Hood onto his rooftop, swooping down to lean on his shoulder. The fall made Red Hood stumble, but before he could recover, Danny froze his feet to the ground.
He had been waiting to broach the subject before…everything. But he supposed now was as good a time as any. So, without further ado, Danny stuck his hand in Jasons chest, releasing a bit of ectoplasm.
Not too much, he didn’t want to overwhelm Jason. The parasite inside Jason on the other hand, detached and followed like a moth to a flame, guzzling it down and didn’t realize its precarious situation until Danny already had a firm grasp and pulled it out of its host.
Jason let out a ragged gasp as he stared at the squirming thing in Phantoms hand as he held it up.
Shrugging, Danny lowered it into his mouth, swallowing it whole, and making a face once done. But a snack was a snack.
“Ew, Baby Pop.” Ember leaned away. “But, thanks!” She said as she grabbed Jason, whisking him away.
“What, Wait! Phantom! Let me g-“ Jason resumed his struggling, reaching for Phantom.
“Put him back where you found him.” Ember gave a playful salute in return, so Danny assumed Red Hood would end up somewhere close at least.
(Ghost king Danny)
Fright Knight also shows up when he hears his liege has been invited to different charity/ science functions. It would be remiss of him if his liege didn’t have a bodyguard.
Now Danny is persuaded (read: badgered) into going as practice for his future, and to help further his contracts.
Fright Knight disguises himself as tall, dark, and human to attend with Danny.
Danny thinks it’s funny that people keep crushing on his handsome bodyguard, not even noticing his own flock of admirers that Fright Knight has to keep at bay.
There’s a new conspiracy theory that Danny Nightingales bodyguard is Batman.
Then his other rogues got jealous, and now find any reason to also attend his events.
Danny meets Diana Prince at one of these Galas while determinedly avoiding any Waynes. They end up talking about translation mistakes, which evolves into commenting about the people, to other displayed artifacts, all in ancient languages, because Danny knows dead languages and Diana enjoys talking in them.
Until finally, the inevitable reunion.
Maybe Danny had gotten too lax, maybe he was distracted for a moment, either way he finally makes eye contact with Tim.
And Tim feels like his breath got knocked out of him.
Because he knows those that laugh. He knows that fading smile. That stance. His walk.
Danny Nightingale had been declining any in person meets up with WE, whenever possible, since the beginning. And if he did, it was always coincidently whenever Tim was busy with something else, so someone else always went.
Now he knew why.
Danny Nightingale is Phantom.
Tim didn’t realize he was moving forward until his view was blocked by broad shoulders and a black suit. Stern, dark green eyes stared down at him, as if daring him to take another step.
Distantly, Tim noted their entertainment for the night, a young woman playing calming jazz, discretely watching them.
Two servers, keeping smiles in place, but very aware of their corner, almost lingering.
The light barely flickered once, so quick most dismissed it as a blink. (Distorted footage)
Phantom, Danny, had people here.
But he needed to talk to him. See him. Just one more chance.
Tim firmed his stance.
And I don’t know where to go from there. Maybe Tim pushed through, maybe he waited til it was over to try to find Danny. He probably has to grovel for any talking to happen. Or he might just get roughed up by Dannys rogues until Danny feels bad and tells them to stop. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@gilbirda Ok, so you made a snippet of on of your AUs a while back (braindead rejected! soulmate i think) and I haven't been able to think of much else since. So my brain made a little thingy for you!
------------
1. Tim takes a risk one day by writing back to whoever was doodling on his body, with a glittery purple gel pen, asking them to stop trying to contacting him.
All the person asked was, "Why?"
Tim never answers.
2. Danny faces constant rejection from his peers, authority figures, his parents and sister neglect him and now his own soulmate doesn't want him. They hadn't even met before he was rejected. Jazz finds out about Dannys powers and tries to reach out but Danny rejects her pretty violently due to his own pain. Then the episode where Sam and Tucker ditch him for Gregor happens and he gives up.
The two people in his life that has had pretty much complete control over his life and trajectory just abandoned him and he does not take it well. He ripped the symbol off his chest, disappeared and never came back.
3. Danny zooms into a new dimension/universe/whatever to avoid his former friends and family from being able to track him only to land in a place called Central City and immediately getting roped into helping Captain Cold who gives him a normal domino mask and they end up working together for a while.
4. Danny somehow overhears one of the speedster talking on the phone about his friends brothers soulmate issue at some point and they perfectly describe the interaction that happened between Danny and his soulmate all those years ago, down to the glittery purple gel pen and the types of doodles Danny had made as a kid and the things he said.
Danny learned one of his soulmates belonged to a group of detective vigilantes in a place called Gotham. Unfortunately he was spotted by the speedster and Danny had to bounce.
5. The Flash made reports to the Justice League about a meta teen who hes been having trouble with for a while and can't seem to pin down. He only asked for tips though as he "could handle it himself."
6. Danny leaves for Gotham and learned about Catwoman and Batmans weird Master Thief and Greatest Detective dynamic and decided that's what he wants to do. He was going to make his soulmate chase after him one way or another. Someone was going to want him even if they were wanting him behind bars.
He begins robbing bank vaults and museums, leaving no trace or clue as to what happened until he starts leaving a calling card of sorts.
7. Jason, who's been on the outs with his family lately meets this spunky white haired meta kid running around with a sci-fi mask/visor thing and giving supplies to homeless encampments and keeping the less fortunate alive and befriends him. He learns that this is the guy everyone has been searching for and just...tells no one. Jason is all for a Robin Hood vigilante, and really, its kinda funny to see his family squirm.
8. Phantom and Catwoman rob the same museum at the same time but for different things. They stare at eachother from where they're both still crouched from thier respective landings until Danny breaks the tension with "I didn't see you if you didn't see me?"
Catwoman laughs, amused. "Sure."
9. Danny finally narrowed down which of the batfam is his soulmate and introduced himself to them as Phantom.
The first thing Danny did was hit on Tim. Tim is flustered but otherwise doesn't really respond to it and tries to fight Phantom into submission, so of course Danny ghosts him by disappearing through a roof mid fight. Danny made a big show of his intangibility in that fight and made it seem like it was the only power he had but he was very skilled with it and he wanted to impress him.
10. Phantom becomes well known to the underbelly of Gotham. Mostly the homeless and nightworkers. But Danny was open and friendly. Never judging and always ready to lend a helping hand. Even better. He never came to collect on favors.
Over time, they became loyal to him.
11. Danny gets framed for a series of murders and the whole gang (minus Hood) are trying to capture him, thus, motorcycle chase scene. They use the white of his tires to tell when he's gone intangible due to all the dirt falling off the wheels. Nightwing jumps onto the bike and shocks Danny with his encrizma sticks right before Danny grits out "bye bye birdy~" and makes a big show of taking in a deep breath and holding it.
Nightwing is forced to jump off the bike as Danny runs through the concrete abutment of the overpass and coming out the other side
12. Danny meets Tim and Duke in his civilian form while he was at a Wayne tech conference. Danny had been asked about one of his inventions and was trying to show off the blueprints and explain things and thats why he was there in the first place. Duke of course, was internally screaming because that's the guy thats the guy they've been hunting for nearly a year but can find nothing on.
Red Robin confronts Phantom that night on a rooftop and Phantom laughs at him, "Thats why I was avoiding Signal for so long. He'd see my magical girl form and know instantly."
RR holds out a pair of handcuffs and says "Its over Danny." Phantom smirks and says, "I don't think it is, Tim" before jumping off onto a different roof and disappearing into the night. Tim is shook.
13. Danny over hears Robin berating RR at an old clocktower and intervenes, "Little Wayne, you do realize you were the first person I figured out, right?"
Damian proceeds to lose his mind.
14. Tim accidentally finds a material that Phantom can't phase through and quickly gets to work making things he can use against Danny. What he doesn't know is that Danny can phase through it he just pretended he couldn't because he wanted to see what would happen/what Tim would do.
Danny can sense the material and it feels really wierd to him, but doesn't harm him at all.
15. RR manages to knock Phantoms visor off his face and realizing it was made of tech he swipes it and brings it back to the cave for study.
He wasn't ready for all the information on the computer. Not only was his nemesis(?) from another plain of reality (he thinks Danny is from the ghost zone) but he was once a superhero with his own Rogues Gallery and human city to protect. Which begs the question, why did he become a Phantom thief?
16. The Joker hears about Phantom giving the bats the run around and comes to a misunderstanding about which bat he's been messing with which ultimately ends with Joker saying that he is Batmans ultimate nemesis and Phantom asking what that had to do with him? The misunderstanding is cleared up when Phantom complained about Joker even thinking that he was flirting with Batman because "Ew! He's an old man!"
Joker still got a few shots in for the heck of it but so did our ghost boy but they were no longer enemies.
17. The whole batfam had been freaking out about finally capturing Phantom and celebrating and plotting on how they were gonna get him to keep his mouth shut about thier identities until Jason came in,
Jason: Need help?
Phantom: Please?
Jason: *escapes with Danny*
Batfam: What?! No!!! Why?!
18. The batfam have only a vague idea of the Robin Hood thing going on. They know he's doing it just not to the extent its gone to. They find out later on that Phantom had been working with RH and his gang to sell off the items and most of the profits go to helping people. Other times he strait up gives jewelry and whatnot to children and working girls because "Everyone deserves something pretty, and even if its not your style you can keep it for a rainy day"
Phantom quickly gains a following and Danny doesn't even know about it. Clueless indeed.
19. Dannys main motivation in this is essentially just playing Cops and Robbers with Red Robin. Nothing else really matters to him. Not the robberies, not the fact he's working with a crime lord, not even his own safety matters much to him anymore. Hes readily zooming down the path of self destruction and Hood starts telling his family stuff, but only because he was genuinely worried about "Casper" crashing and burning.
20. No one knows why Phantom is fixated on Red Robin. He refuses to tell them. Red thinks its just because he's the smartest of the bats and he's not entirely wrong.
21. Danny legit started scheduling his heists with Tim to ensure they're both free after one couldn't make it too many times which blew the birds mind. Phantom must have been just that confident that he would always win. The bats eventually think Danny will stop stealing if RR isn't in the city for a long period of time. Danny more or less followed him and stole stuff from whatever city Tim was in. If there wasn't any museums or banks then Danny would steal a local landmark. Tim still wasn't sure how Phantom stole an entire building that one time but it had never been seen since.
22. Hood grows to be very protective of our favorite ghost boy. They bond and are actually really close. Danny admits he always wanted an older brother.
23. Tim goes off world for a while to see how Danny would react and Danny just...drops off the radar. No one knows where he is and after a week or two they start getting worried.
Tim returns after three months and Danny reappears two weeks after him with a tan and keepsakes from the places he visited on his vacation. Tim later screams into his pillow.
24. Tim has made it his personal mission to figure out who Danny really is, why he's fixated on him, where he came from, ect. Hes trying so hard but can't find anything. Its almost like he didn't exist before. Tim suddenly got an idea after Phantom accidentally got hit in the face and got a nosebleed. Tim saw green blood and immediately realized Danny might not even be human. Fortunately for our little ghost, he thinks he's an alien. A Martian specifically. Tim manages to snag a good sample from treating Phantoms wounds. Ghostboy was so focus on his core thrumming and mentally comparing it to his heart racing that he didn't even notice.
25. Tim later freaks out because the meta is freaking made out of Lazarus water.
The entire batfam was not happy to discover this and decided to work together to pressure Phantom into telling them what he was and what exactly he wanted.

You know when you’re young, horny, and want to try some of that adult playtime stuff?
And it’s like, no problem, should be able to find someone for some easy fun.
Right.
No.
Because I found out I’m a romantic enough to want a special someone for my first foray.
Not usually a problem.
Except.
I’m an anti-social hermit with no clue how to progress a relationship to that extent.
Conclusion: It sucks.
Unfortunately, not literally.

Tai Lung (Kung Fu Panda) reborn as Mulan.
This world was weird.
People lost their higher reasoning, and instead (mostly) hairless creatures were everywhere.
Of course he kept his hair long, how else was he- she to remain warm?
She could still move, could still train, compared to prison he’d take this weak but free body.
Then a convenient war came along and she joined without a second thought.
(It had nothing to do with the old man. It had nothing to do with a warm hand resting on her shoulder. Of course not.)

Senju Tobirama in the Witcher
He’s not even a Witcher, people just think he is because of his appearance.
He’s more like a crazed scientist wandering around to collect ingredients, who also takes care of the local pests.

I like the idea of the JL in a tight spot (maybe off planet), and they need to somehow convince the locals to let them go, but they already messed up their first impression.
And then Batman pulls out Brucie and just charms the pants off this semi-hostile audience.
Meanwhile, the JL are so confused and bewildered by Batman being able to pulls this off.
It just doesn’t compute.
JusticeLeague.exe has stopped working.
The thought that Brucie Wayne and Batman being two completely separate entities that Bruce can code switch between has consumed me especially with the idea that he mixes the two together on occasion to fuck with people
~~~~~~~~~
*Batman and Superman searching a dressing room*
Superman: What about this thing, it looks suspicious?
Batman *full Batman voice*: That’s an eyelash curler darling
~~~~~~~~
*OG JLA revealing identities to newbies*
Green Arrow: Your turn Bats, who are you?
Batman having decided to fuck with him walking up to him cocking his hip putting one hand on his chest and in full Brucie Wayne mode: C’mon Ollie-Dollie you know who I am. We dated 💕
Green Arrow (internally): Modem noise
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Recently revealed identities with Clark and Brucie being at the same party
Brucie: oh howdy 🤠 cowboy, fancy meeting you at this shindig
Clark *flustered* (internally): he can’t be Batman he can’t be Batman he can’t be Batman…
~~~~~~~~~
*Bruce getting a call during a JLA meeting*
Brucie: Oh! hello dear, yes of course I’m coming to your party I’ll see you later 😘
Batman: Our security measures need to be increased due to the number of criminals currently attempting to follow heroes to their base of operations
JLA *experiencing whiplash*: what.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*undercover Brucie and members of the JLA at a party*
Bruce *pretending to be drunk wandering over to the flash*: excuse moi but can I get your attention for just a momento😊
Flash *completely disconnecting Bruce and bats*: yeah uh sure sir are you alright
Batman *quiet but deep Batman voice*: there’s an assassin in the rafters
Azula (atlab) as Okumura Rin (be)?
Well, it’s not the first time I’ve been called a monster.
And Fire has always been in his blood.
He makes a spy network of demons. (Azula was once a princess of the Fire Nation. She knew the importance of knowledge. It wasn’t her first time creating a Web from nothing. (Think Reiko Book of Friends style?)
This couldn’t be all.
There had to be something.
Fire was in his blood. Coals burned in his lungs and sparks flew with every exhale. Fire marked them as theirs, with hair of soot and burning eyes.
(But his eyes were blue now.)
They couldn’t take that from him. Couldn’t. So he reached, and dug, and clawed.
And finally, something cracked.
A snap, and a trickle of heat rose in his chest. A candles flickering flame, fluttering but settling.
His joy was short lived however, because with it came an increase of nosy priests.
So over weeks, he slowly guided that flame. Curled around it, let it warm him (he’d been so cold, how didn’t he notice?), and just breathed.
And one day, he lead that candle flame to his cupped hands, shielded from the outside.
Yes, his eyes were blue now. Blue like the fire in his blood.
He’d try to do better this time. As the older sibling, without the pressure of a burning throne.
Because-
“We were happy once.”
This must be karma.
The old man’s on fire.
The wrong voice is echoing in his ears.
And then-
His twin. Yukio.
Has a gun pointed to his head.
(Did the old man really care? Or did he too think he was a monster?)
He doesn’t know how to feel about his classmates. They have potential, (that he could nurture, provide them with fangs and claws of their own, like old times), but-
It’s hard to have goodwill when every twitch is scrutinized.
He’d fallen back on his etiquette training from when he had to attend fathers court. The steel in his spine hardened from making others listen when he was a princess of 14 on a battleship.
And yet.
He tried to maintain the feeling of when he could relax surrounded by family. (Something he’d tried to have before, when he thought he had friends.)
There are no friends here.
It’s hard to relax around Yukio.
Finger always on the trigger and quick to suspect.
In contrast, it’s almost too easy to slip into mind games and word play with the principal of True Cross Academy.
He’d always found demons easier to understand.
Humans found manipulation… distasteful, unless it helped further their goals.
Azula had found manipulation second nature. A trait nourished on Fire nation politics and battlefield tactics. A skill that followed him in this life.
And he’d tried to keep it minimal with family. Nothing harmful. He didn’t need to manipulate his family, it wasn’t like the court or the palace from before.
Now?
With enemies everywhere, people who’d like nothing more than to see his head roll?
Why should he keep that piece of himself locked away?
He was already a demon in their eyes.
And demons were manipulative creatures.
Fitting, wasn’t it?
Growing up in the Fire Nations royal family, it had been expected for Zuko and Azula to master the arts. From calligraphy to riding, and martial arts to swordsmanship.
Azula had been exemplary, of course.
But swords had been the one area Zuko had firm ground to stand.
The one thing Azula could leave him.
(Before he opened his fool mouth anyway.)
“You are the son of Satan.”
Like there was any difference.
Captain Kurotsuchi (Bleach) use to be Madame Red (BB)
Here’s a One-Shot I wrote with that idea.
Daisies and Hydrangeas
A sudden spike in spiritual pressure and the after shakes of a small explosion were the only evidence of anything amiss at the 12 division.
Comparatively, pretty tame for the 12th.
Except, small explosions didn't usually leave the captain unconscious.
"Mayuri-sama!" Kurotsuchi Nemu called out to her creator, crouched over his comatose form, not daring to touch, ignoring the overturned table and papers strewn about the room.
Relieve spread through her at seeing his eyes squint open.
Grumpily, he waved off any assistance to stand, and forced himself up on shaky legs. Sneering at his weakness, Mayuri managed to stumble into a chair before collapsing again.
"Leave me." He commanded, eyes intent and focused on the results of his latest experiment.
Nemu hesitated at the door, something seemed off.
"Are you well, Mayuri-sama?"
Glaring at her continued presence, but preoccupied with his over crowded memory bank, he swiped a hand in her direction and absently answered, "I'm fine."
His voiced lowered, and his hand changed directions to hold his head, "I just remembered something."
Concern growing, Nemu obediently left, closing the door behind her.
Her impertinence usually resulted in more than just a glare.
The 12th division captain didn't leave the room for the rest of the day.
There was no word from him on the second either.
On the third day, he called for Nemu.
Nemu entered the room, noticing it had been semi-neatened and the papers had multiplied, before settling her attention on her creator.
He was facing away from her, clothes rumpled and hair loose.
"Mayuri-sama." She said, quietly but clear, awaiting his orders.
His back straightened at her voice, and he took a deep breath before beginning to speak in a calm, measured tone.
"There will be some changes around here Nemu." He still did not look at her.
"More specifically, I am not exactly who I once was, so the probability that I would make the same decisions henceforth are doubtful at best."
That was concerning, what happened to her creator to have caused this?
"I do not understand."
"I have recovered the memories of my time as a human," He sighed, "They are proving very influential."
Only the slight widening of her eyes gave away her shock at that answer, before she quickly dismissed it. It was still the same soul, and this was still her creator.
Finally turning towards her, an odd expression crossed his face before it settled into something part hopeful and part distaste.
"My priorities have changed."
He walked closer, golden eyes memorizing every detail of her face, as if he hadn't seen her in years.
His hand came up, only to stop an inch from her cheek.
"I had hoped..." He trailed off, never looking away, and retracting his hand.
"Can I make it up to you, Nemu?"
"There is nothing to make up, Mayuri-sama."
The unseated members of the 12th division didn't quite have the finesse to hide their staring. Or perhaps, they had forgotten all the tips from their superiors. Because blatantly staring was a sure way to get yourself volunteered to assist in the captains newest experiments.
Not that they could fully blame them.
It was hard not stare at the small figure clutching to the back of the captains robes. The bright red bow tied to a curl of blue hair didn't help either.
They flinched as a large yellow head peeked out from behind the captain looking over progress reports. The big, seemingly sightless eyes gazing in their direction unnerved them almost as much as their captain.
"Problem?" A stern voice had them startling to attention. Kurotsuchi-Taicho hadn't looked up from the papers, but they could feel his attention on them like a predator to prey. The materialized form of Ashisogi Jizo fluttered his wings, head tilted up at them with his sightless pressure.
"N-no problem, Kurotsuchi-Taicho!" They chorused, Rushing to look busy.
Humming indistinctly, Kurotsuchi-Taicho tucked the report under his arm before stalking off to the next station. Ashisogi Jizo never releasing his robes, head craning to stare at the sweating soul reapers.
They shivered from the attention.
According to his newly regained memories, Ashisogi Jizo was adorable, and why couldn't he let him out to explore? Besides, materializing a zanpakuto spirit was no easy feat. His reiryoku hadn't had this much of a work out in years.
Hmm, he would need to brush up in his zanjutsu as well. And update his kido repertoire.
There was no need to get complacent, complacency got you killed, and that wasn't an option for him.
Not when he had Nemu.
Likewise, he wouldn't allow Nemu to die.
He would keep this one safe.
Therefore he needed to get stronger, expand his research, and ensure the continued state of living for his daughter.
Staring into the middle distance, Mayuri methodically went through the knowledge he had amassed, maybe his new perspective would reveal something new. Absently picking up a report on hollow activity, he mentally dismissed the upcoming captains meeting, instead sifting through some of his older reasearch.
The Quincies had unique abilities in regards to defense, but that wasn't immediately feasible, perhap- no. Discarding that train of though, he shifted his attention elsewhere.
Hollows.
They also had individual abilities that had interested him in the past, specifically the instant regeneration seldomly found in higher class hollows. Including replicating the skill, that thread of experimentation had helped him also find the solution to reforming his body after liquefying, making it a viable method of escape.
Moving on, he brought up the class specific skills sets, reviewing and rejecting just as quickl- ah.
Well then. A grin spread across his face.
That was interesting.
The unseated members must really want to help with an experiment. The ones without a death wish thought, hurrying to and fro and generally keeping busy.
Unlike the ones distractedly sorting papers for the fifth time and continuously sneaking glances at their Vice-Captain.
Yes, the choker was a brighter red than before, and yes the contrast of bright red on pale skin framed by black was very aesthetically pleasing; But, this was still their Vice-Captain and their Captains daughter.
And no, they weren't distracted by the tiny smile, they were much too busy working, thank you very much.
"Here, get this started while I finish setting up the next set of serums." Mayuri-Sama said, passing over a scalpel, waving dismissively towards the groaning body on the table, and turning to collect the already prepared vials.
Getting to work immediately, Nemu didn't question why Mayuri-Sama hadn't asked her to gather the vials while he started the dissection.
She didn't question why he had dismissed the other division members, stating that he only needed Nemu to assist him.
The warmth that spread through her did nothing to hinder her steady hands, nor did it stop her from feeling light and refreshed.
She also didn't question why Mayuri-Sama would need to finish setting up the serum when they both knew he already had them prepared five minutes before the experiment.
The Vizard were an immensely interesting subject.
Unfortunately, they were also a pathetically un-researched subject.
Mayuri let a stray thought bemoan the loss of potential test subjects to his old captain, before steering his focus back to the task at hand.
Namely what modifications he needed in order to properly integrate a hollow into his soul.
Rashly forcing a hollow into a shinigamis soul was both idiotic and inefficient.
It would lead to a terribly unbalanced state of being, never mind whatever damage was done forcing the the conflicting reishi to bond.
Keeping in balance and functional were the most important part of body modifications. What was the point of bettering yourself if it results in a decrease in mental falculties?
No. He would not be giving up any part of himself for power, rather he'd simply add.
However, Mayuri was irritated at the lack of information on vizards. He had many theories and nothing concrete despite already existing test subjects.
Huffing, he once again steered his thoghts back to his future plans.
After all, it wasn't the first time he had pioneered science.
...Another organ should due. Similar to the Hakusui perhaps? He'd have to increase his pathways, but that was simple enough. A stabilizer would be needed, but if he merged the hollow with an asauchi could he implement it as another facet of his zanpakuto?
He'd need to acquire the materials without raising suspicions, although most of Seireitei ignores his experiments as long as he doesn't cause too big of a disturbance.
Mayuri continued planning, filling pages with notes while his grin grew wider.
"Nemu, come." Mayuri-Sama called out, packet of papers in hand and already headed towards the door.
Nemu nodded, falling half a step behind him.
She took a moment to study him in the afternoon light. Her creator didn't look any different than usual, other than his once blue nails now being red. He still covered every inch of skin, be it with clothes or paint. His purple scarf ever present, and zanpakuto sealed for now.
He had just resurfaced from a research binge, but his clothes were neat as usual.
Appearance wise nothing much had changed.
But her creator had changed in other ways.
It started with little things, a light pat on the shoulder, almost as if a figment of her imagination. Then it increased to presents, her new choker, a new hair band, the private experiment sessions.
Nemu knew her love for her father couldn't increase any further, but the warmth in her chest and the lightness in her steps sometimes made it seem like it did.
They walked into a busy part of Seireitei, and entered a building full of shinigami rushing around, arms full of papers. One noticed them and quickly sped over, eyes brightening and smile firmly set in place.
"Kurotsuchi-Taicho! Good afternoon." She greeted, shifting the papers to balance on one arm while the other reached out to accept the packet from Mayuri-Sama.
"Here's the articles for the next month." He said, customary grin matching the other shinigamis.
"Thank you very much Kurotsuchi-Taicho, your fans will be overjoyed!" She said cheerfully, bowing and being dismissed with a wave of a hand.
Business finished, Mayuri-Sama turned and headed off in another direction.
And Nemu was content to follow.
Ten minutes later, Mayuri-Sama stopped in front of small building. A restaurant according to the sign outside.
"I figured we could eat before heading back." He said, staring at her and gesturing towards the doorway.
The lightness was back, this time accompanied by a tiny upturn at the corner of her lips.
"Of course, Mayuri-Sama." She dipped her head.
A large hand landed on her head, there and gone, but leaving behind a warmth that spread from her head to her chest.
Slightly widened eyes looked up to find Mayuri-Sama grinning at her, hand falling back to his side.
"They have good pike here."
Gillians Menos had the unique ability called Negación. A beam of light that creates a separate dimension and blocks anything from the outside, supposedly impenetrable.
He'd see about that.
It had taken months to not only modify his body, but to also secure a Gillian class Menos Grande without raising suspicion. Most of that time was used to find some way to condense the hollow body into a more portable form.
Mayuri held up a small golden orb, to the ignorant it could easily be mistaken as soul candy, if not for the almost negligible wisps of hollow reiryoku seeping from it.
And just like soul candy, it went down just as easy, slightly burning in the specially prepared spot for it in his chest.
It took five days for the burning to recede, all the while Mayuri contemplated the various souls he had consumed.
It was a rather neat experiment, to be able to feel the hundreds of souls clamoring to be on top. He studied them one by one, blocking out the others and testing them one at a time. In singling them out, it seemed to give them the false impression that he was the only one left to beat. At least, until he grew bored and subsequently crushed them under foot.
Only when he solidified his position as the head did the burning stop. The souls merging and settling into place.
The only real problem he encountered was the sudden boost to his reiyoku levels, his fine control drowning in the excess. To correct this, he preformed his strongest kido, used to safeguard his notes and seal up his private rooms, to bring it down to more manageable levels. Then he allowed himself to recover just enough to increase his familiarity and control, drain and repeat.
Unfortunately he had to wait to test if he had gained the negación. He'd already been absent for nearly a week, it wouldn't do for anyone to wonder where he'd gone.
He had many experiments to do.
And he planned on finding each and every limitation and breaking them to suit his needs.
Mayuri was irritated.
It had started as a regular day.
The morning testing had gone well, and nothing was amiss in the submitted reports.
The problems started when he had sat down to read the Seireitei Communication.
A small explosion when off in a nearby testing room, causing a new member passing by to jump and spill his tea on Mayuris papers.
After scheduling his future volunteerment, the ruined papers had been replaced with a new set, and Mayuri had resettled himself with a fresh cup of tea.
But before he could start to read, a messenger showed up reporting an emergency Captains meeting.
So, not only could he not read the paper like he wanted to, the incoming captains meeting would completely ruin his planned lunch with Nemu, and seemed likely to drag on into his afternoon dissection.
With how busy he'd been lately, this had been the first time he could get out of the division in the past few weeks.
So, no.
Mayuri was not happy.
The only silver lining was that a few Ryoka invaded. It was always nice to have options for new test subjects.
The week didn't get much better.
Aparently, a ryoka killed Aizen.
They were trying to execute the Kuchiki heads younger sister.
And the ryoka invaded Seireitei solely because they did not agree with this decision.
Hmm.
This was a rather interesting situation.
Mayuri had a grand view of the runaway Shihōin escaping with a ryoka thrown over her shoulder, leaving their other companions to the tender care of two captains.
Pity that.
Absently listening to the conversation below, he mentally compared the retreating Shihōins speed to that of the past.
She's gotten slower.
*"I lost my interest. Do whatever you want with them."
Well, if that was permission from a clan head... chuckling, he flashed down.
And caught the Kuchiki girl just as her legs gave out.
He held her propped against his chest, hands holding her side and across her neck to rest on her rabbiting pulse.
Mayuris sudden appearance had caused both captains to pause.
His position behind the girl leaving them wary.
And the hand on her throat prompted a step from brother dearest.
"Well if you don't want her, how about I take her off your hands."
Nemu might want a sister...
Shifting the now unconscious girl to lean more comfortably against him made the other captains twice as stiff.
Hm.
Letting his grin grow, Mayuri let the girl fall, watching as eyes tightened before seeing that his grip on the back of her clothes kept the girl off the ground.
This was kind of fun.
Then Ukitake had to go and ruin his fun by being a responsible member of the Gotei 13.
It's been a hectic few days.
The ryoka were running all over Seireitei and having showdowns against various captains and collected like misbehaving children.
Meetings were irritatingly frequent.
And Nemu has been missing all day.
"Kurotsuchi-Taicho!"
"What." He snapped his head over to the commotion.
"It's the Fukutaicho! She's back!" That didn't sound like a happy thing.
Sweeping towards the back entrance, Mayuri did indeed find Nemu.
A very bloody Nemu.
A partially mangled Nemu stumbling in on twisted legs.
He quickly gathered her up in his arms, and set course to the nearest exam room.
She wouldn't die from this, but it did rather hamper her mobility.
And he didn't like seeing her like this.
"Mayuri-Sama, I-"
A rough cough cut her off, blood speckling her lips.
His hand came up to brush some hair from sticking to the corners of her mouth.
"Who did this?"
It was nearly a growl.
His golden eyes flashed with something dark.
The ryoka interrupted the execution.
He doesn't know why that surprised people, the ryoka had invaded Seireitei with little more than hope and an out of shape exile.
Then the ryoka broke the Sōkyoku.
That was interesting, but not important right now.
Aizen -yeah, he wasn't dead- seemed to be finishing up his monologue and calling his allies.
Now, Mayuri couldn’t boast having the most spiritual pressure -no, not even with the hollow boost- that privilege went to Kenpachi.
But, he was no slouch either, and wielded his reiryoku with the same precision as his scalpel.
Taking in the golden beams of light encasing the traitors, the useless members of the Gotei 13 scattered around, and the newly arrived Kenpachi.
Mayuri made a plan.
Completely tamping down on his spiritual energy, he flashed a meandering path to the only useful member on the field.
Pausing next to Kenpachi, he murmured “Release your spiritual pressure.” Before taking off to the right, subtly rounding the area to place himself behind Aizen.
Halfway there he felt Kenpachis reiryoku flood the area, interrupting Aizens grand ascension and drawing everyone’s attention.
Which meant no one noticed the amber threads slipping through their negación.
- After all, why would an ally harm them? A normal negación didn't take into account having to guard against other allies.
Of course, he already corrected his own.-
Not until another, darker, box formed around them and shattered their escape route.
Aizen turned unhurriedly, and locked eyes with Mayuri.
“Did you think you were the only one to study hollows?” He asked in a pleasant tone, contrary to the grin stretching his face and showing far too many teeth, a similar amber box in his hand.
Looking vaguely irritated, Aizen tested the strength of the barrier with a stab of his zanpakuto.
"Ghak!"
...which only caused Tousen to choke out a gasp, doubling over the sword peaking out of his side.
Kurotsuchis smile grew wider, eyes squinting.
“Oh, did you not know how the Negatión functions?” He asked as Aizen hurriedly withdrew his sword, leaving Tousen to drop to the ground.
Kurotsuchi ignored the seventh division captains exclamation of “Tousen!”, to continue his own monologue.
“Multiple Negatións with a shared creator are connected. Meaning, I can do this,” Here he paused to bring the box in his hand to his lips, blew a green gas into it, and studied its quick spread throughout their prisons.
Watched them try to nonchalantly hold their breath.
A short chuckle escaped him.
As if that would help them, if simply holding your breath was all it took to render his gas ineffective, what kind of weapon would it be?
As green veins spider webbed underneath their paling skin another figure rushed up to him.
“What does that gas do?” The tenth division lieutenant asked, eyes wide and concern buried in her voice.
Smile ever present, he raised a single eyebrow.
“Kurotsuchi-Taicho.” She belatedly tacked on at his look.
Annoyed, he answered, “It’s a simple incapacitating agen-“ He was cut off by harsh coughs.
Turning his attention back to the golden cages, they watched the traitor fall.
Aizen slumped over, wet coughs racking his frame and blood covered his hands.
“-t. That apparently Aizen-Taicho is allergic to. How unfortunate.” His distaste was blatant.
Aizens passing was surrounded by conflicting emotions, hate for a traitor and love for the end of a kind superior.
But none of that mattered to him.
Tousen disappeared to the public, locked away while the onmitsukidō tried to get information out of him.
And Gin confessed before the day was up.
Went over everything he knew -not much, considering Aizen kept the whole deck close- and explained his reasons after one word from Rangiku.
He was suspended and left to the tender mercies of Unohana-Taicho.
Merely a slap on the wrist.
While people were unnerved by Kurotsuchis use of -disturbingly like a hollows- abilities, it wasn’t more than when they heard about what he’d done to his own Zanpakuto.
They didn’t connect seemingly hollow-ish skills to vizard.
They saw Aizen and insane genius and what if he turned on us too?
Hm.
If that got any further, he’d have to take Nemu and leave.
Actually, he might do that anyway.
A nice road trip with his darling daughter? He’d have to freshen up his On-The-Run pack.
But first.
He turned around to his newest test subject. Scalpel ready and Nemu at his side.
“Turnabout is fair, yes? You hurt mine.”
A cruel smile curled his lips, his eyes flashed golden and met dark brown.
“Now I’ll hurt you.”
*This was taken from the manga. I can't claim them.
This all started because I thought Ashisoji Jizo was adorable.
I just realized I never named Madame Red as Mayuris past life.
I meant to, I had a scene planned out that somehow escaped from the story.
HP Shenanigans
Slytherpuffs.
Introducing new Slytherin
Gestures towards puff passing out hot chocolate laced with Cheer Up.
“That’s our honorary slytherpuff. They’re here to give us affection, because Merlin knows we don’t get any from anyone else.”
“Please note, there is a male and female slytherpuff to help us depending on which issues decide to curse us today. Their hugs are warmer than the hot chocolate.”
“Yes, there are a few selected per year, each year has their own in case there’s a class specific problem.”
“Don’t worry, we read through the contract with them and made sure they understood the terms and conditions.”
“You had to read it with them?”
“They tried to sign it as soon as we mentioned we needed help…support…and affection. Without reading it. We were greatly concerned as well.”
“Defend them? Of course we do. If we make it in time. You’re more likely to see a Puff sucker punch a Gryffindor for a Slytherin.”
“Sucker punch? I don’t really know, I heard one of them say it, and it had a nice ring.”
Kakuzu (Naruto) reincarnated as Viper/Mammon (KHR)
As a mist he wasn’t expected to be very good at close up confrontations.
But he’d been alive a long time and a rusty ninja is a dead one.
Bounty hunting was all well and good, but information? That’s where the real money was.
How much money was his information worth? How much more could he get if he used it?
He was known as an information broker.
And sometimes his clients wanted an assassin.
He ensured they’d pay the finders fee and he’d pass the job along to the right hands.
(Ie. His hands.)
Because sometimes information brokering was a little too tame for his tastes.
And Kakuzu wanted to hunt.
Daredevil (Matt Murdock) as Skull (Khr)?
Like cloudy Daredevil who accidentally got punted into the past, cursed, and now he’s finally catching up to his time.
That’s why he never takes off his helmet. Or if he does he’s covered in makeup (and wasn’t that a trial to find one that wouldn’t irritate his skin). Can’t let anyone or anything record his face, or let the others notice his eyes don’t quite focus.
His Territory is Hells Kitchen, and his friends.
“I actually have a degree.”
“In what?”
“Law.”
