#30dayfoodphotochallenge Day 27 - Empanadilla Picnic My day started with me wanting to take stock photos of backgrounds for @adobestock. So I picked up a few fallen flowers from a flamboyan in the park. I started to shoot the backgrounds, and remembered that I had made some empanadillas. I purchased the small colorful towel at Marshalls the other day for $1 to use in the Kombucha shoot, but I couldn't find it when I started the shoot. And of course I had to include the Valentina sauce. If you cut me open I bleed Valentina. I guess everything came together with no planning. I had no idea what to shoot today apart from the background, and I like how it came out. I again used the continuous light to create hard shadows, and the strobe flash for lighting on the other side. I chose to use the landscape ratio for this because the portrait would have cut out a lot of the photo. And the shadows looked weird. It's crazy how creativity works. #30dayfoodphotochallenge Day 26 - Health-Ade Kombucha I am a Kombucha addict. It's a habit that I can't quit. I’ve been drinking this magical juice for over 5 years now, and I’ve had my ups and downs. @healthade is by far my favorite Kombucha. It has a kick to it that other ones don’t. I mean… besides the one that I made at home during the pandemic. Drinking Kombucha is an expensive habit, so I decided to make my own for a while. But about the shoot.. I wanted to try a shot using hard light so I started to look for things that casted a nice shadow. I saw this tropical punch kombucha, so I thought that pineapple would be a nice shadow to compliment it. I also tried to combine the colors from the bottle with the background. #30dayfoodphotochallenge Day 25 - Puerto Rican Pork Chops This was my dinner. Well.. maybe not all of it, but most of it. Pork chops, with rice,black beans, and yuca al mojo.. 🤤 I’ve been busy lately and missed a couple of days, but I'm following through with the challenge. One thing that this challenge has taught me is that I am starting to enjoy food styling. I’m used to going to a restaurant and taking photos of dishes on tables. Cooking pork chops and styling them to make them look fancy was fun. #30dayfoodphotochallenge Day 24 - Shrimp Bao Buns Bao Buns are great. Tehyre really easy to steam up, and you can fill them with anything. Most of the time I full them with spicy crab, but when i want to get serious I tempura some shrimp and make a sweet and spicy sauce. I also like how imperfect they come out. I imagine that the top of the buns stuck to the steamer, but whatever. Cooking is never perfect. #30dayfoodphotochallenge Day 23 – Margarita Jurakan Part of the challenge of this challenge….. Is to practice all of these different new skills and actually do them in live situations at restaurants. @caoba.pr has been one of my customers for around a year now, and I love taking the trip to Arecibo to visit them and try new food. The owner contacted me and wanted for me to try a splash photograph on their cocktail Margarita Jurakan. This margarita is made from passion fruit, @josecuervo_pr and other ingredients. Really tasty. It was cool that I was able to find a spot on their bar that I can use to set up the shot. #30dayfoodphotochallenge Day 22 – Nutella Strawberries Sometimes I wish that my profile was all photos with these pastel color pallets. But I would get bored within one week. I think sticking to one style works great for some people, but I like to experiment and always try new things so that I can grow as a photographer. So yeah @nutellapr with Strawberries. I could have gone with the wood-dark and moody flow, but I wanted to switch it up. Also, I want to announce that next month I will be doing a product photoshoot challenge. I am literally going to start shooting random products that I have around my house, or purchase them. All depending on my creativity. I think that if I shoot products that I like and use, I can put a bit more emotion and personalization to the shoots. But at the same time I want to challenge myself. #30dayfoodphotochallenge Day 21 – Chicken Kabobs 21 photos in and I still end up pulling something off with no planning or idea of what I'm going to do when I wake up. I bought these wood skewer sticks to use for floating food. I tried to prop up some strawberries, and they were not holding, so I decided to do chicken kabobs with different colored peppers. This challenge has been a full on challenge to my creativity. Even when I have nothing in mind, I always end up pulling something off at the last minute. So far I have tried almost all of the crazy food photography shots that I had in mind. I still have more in mind to fill out the rest of the 9 shots, but some days I get mentally blocked out. I usually do not have an idea of what I'm going to do until after 5pm for some reason. Anyways,. I hope you like the kabob shot, as much as I liked eating them. #30dayfoodphotochallenge Day 20 – Smokey Cocktail Got the idea for this shoot at like 6pm. I found this glass container with the wood base 4 years ago when I moved into the apartment. Didn't throw it away because I thought it looked cool and someday I was going to use it for something. Today was the day I guess. I knew that I wanted to smoke something under there. And immediately I thought of a cocktail. But I ran into an issue quickly. The cocktail glass that I had didn't fit under enough to close it and keep the smoke in. So at 7pm I flew to Marshalls to look for a small glass that looked cool. I purchased the glass, and also found some fake palm trees that gave the shot a bit of a tropical feel. So when I tried this new cup, it also didn't fit. I tried to smoke the container, and put the glass under then lift, but the smoke wasn't there. So I knew that I needed to do photoshop magic on this. #30dayfoodphotochallenge Day 19 – Wood Doughnuts Don’t usually eat doughnuts, but when I do I go all out. Is it Doughnuts or Donuts? Who knows. I like @wooddoughnutspr because they have the best tasting donuts even without the crazy toppings. Now my fridge is full of food, doughnuts, alcohol, and candy…. Great So I wanted to pick out a different doughnut and blend it with the new backdrops I got. I had no idea what I was going to shoot this morning, and started seeing random donuts online. So I contacted @wooddoughnutspr and they hooked it up for me. I think it's perfect because I could combine a different theme to each doughnut. #30dayfoodphotochallenge Day 18 – Blueberries Didn't want to make a mess today, so I kept it simple. Recently I have been buying food just so that I can take photos of it. Not sure if that’s smart, but I have a stocked fridge and bar. For this shoot I wanted something bright and with a summer vibe. I also wanted to show off these awesome little forks that I bought. They make everything look bigger. I also just got like 15 new backdrops that I’m excited to use. The backdrops alone give me inspiration for ideas and creativity. #30dayfoodphotochallenge Day 17 – Screwball on The Rocks I’ve been meaning to do a reflective shoot for a while now, but could find the right reflective base. Yesterday I went on a mission to find one, and got lucky. This shot was supposed to be just a regular reflective shot, and then I started to get creative. I had other takes with peanuts flying into the cup and making the splash, but it was too much. Again I made another mess. That's 3 days in a row. I’ve had the idea for this shoot ever since I tasted @skrewballwhiskey If you haven't tasted it before, iot tastes like peanuts. (sooo goood) So that's why I included the peanuts as props. #30dayfoodphotochallenge Day 16 – Floating burger This is another shot that I’ve wanted to do for a while. I think that it's a bit played out, but I thought it was worth seeing if I could pull it off. I felt like a little kid putting together a school project. One tip if you're going to try this: Start from the top and make sure it's secure. This alpine will save you tons of minutes that I wasted. I kept staring at the bottom, and then when something on the top would drop it would knock everything else down. Also, I suggest using a real hamburger. I used a @beyondmeat burger and it wasn't cooked completely, so it was a second away from breaking in half. And the mustard and ketchup was fun. Two days in a row of making a mess in my dining room. ….. I need a studio.
