Sherlock Fic 729
Out There DiscordantWords | John/Sherlock | T | 131,695 words
FBI Special Agent John Watson, medical doctor and army veteran, is assigned to assist eccentric genius Sherlock Holmes with paranormal investigations on the X Files project.
Damn, Out There is an amazing read. I adore the mix of Sherlock and the X-Files here, how the author combines elements and storylines from both shows and, indeed, the (early, excellent) X-Files episodes the author has chosen to explore in the story -- kudos to them for including both mythology and monster-of-the-week (Squeeze!) episodes in Out There and also including references to so so so many other episodes (which actually made me want to rewatch the X-Files again, immediately!). There's excitement and surprises and twists waiting for the reader, but it's also an emotional, touching read and I simply cannot get enough of John and Sherlock's partnership and their eventual budding romance (which is handled a lot better than Mulder and Scully's relationship in the show)! So, Out There truly is an absolutely lovely fic and I'm very much looking forward to the possibility of someday getting to read more about John and Sherlock's adventures in this universe!

It Happened One Christmas swissmarg | John/Sherlock | M | 10,106 words
Sherlock’s parents think he and John are a couple. They might be onto something.
Well… it’s been some time since Sherlock Fic 727. Quite a while, certainly. And I haven’t actually read any Sherlock fanfiction in months, but I’m also not at all ready to give up one of my favourite fandoms yet, so what would be a better way to try to get back into the swing of things than reading a delightfully Christmassy fic? Because It Happened One Christmas is indeed delightful. I adore the domesticity and the sweetness of the story so much, and the warm Christmas atmosphere here is just perfect! And the characterisations, they felt so familiar and believable to me, which I’m damn happy about after taking such a long break from the fandom. An altogether lovely read!

Would you review Figuring It Out Together? It's a Johnlock fic by ChrisCalledMeSweetie on AO3. Summary: “So, being emotionally intimate makes you want to be physically intimate?” “Yes.” “Okay. And, uh, how far are you interested in going with that?" (A story in which there is a first time for everything...)
Hello and I'm so sorry it has taken me a while to get back to you, offline things (e.g. recovering from an accident) have taken up a lot of my time lately and I haven't really been reading fanfiction! However, I'm definitely open to fic recommendations, although it might take a long time before I actually get around to reading the story (I have a lot of things saved in my to-read folder). Also, I sadly can't promise I'll post a review if/when I read the story as I only talk about my favourite fics — and why I love them — here, so they're not reviews (with constructive criticism) as such. (If you absolutely want personal feedback from me though, you can always ask me off anon!)

Sherlock Fic 727
One Way (or Another) 1electricpirate | John/Sherlock | E | 3,451 words
Or, 'The Playbook of Sherlock Holmes.' Desperate and at the end of his tether, Sherlock unwittingly tries the naked man – and it turns out John is even more of an idiot than originally suspected.
There'll never be a day when I don't love clueless John and desperate Sherlock utterly surprised by John's obliviousness (because of course Sherlock thinks he's been dropping plenty of hints about his feelings for John). Love the awkwardness, love the humour, love everything about this story — such a delightful read!

Sherlock Fic 726
Wars We Fought, Things We're Not blueink3 | John/Sherlock | M | 55,064 words
"Oh come, John. Could be fun," Mycroft taunts, accompanied by an eyebrow arch he's gotten far too good at. "Besides, it's not as if it's your first time pretending to be a couple." Five months after John's world has fallen apart, Mycroft sends the consulting detective and his doctor on a case that neither is prepared for.
"So many tropes, so little time" says the author and indeed, in addition to being an angsty post-series 3 casefic, the story also features a fake relationship between John and Sherlock and a bit of parentlock, although here the baby's for a case, too (or is he?). A lot of tropes, yes, but Wars We Fought, Things We're Not can carry it all — it's a great read that strikes a good balance between angst and fluff and the casefic aspects of the story.

I was wondering, do you know of any fics where Sherlock is an AI or computer system or something like that? I'm watching 3x01 right now and Sherlock's deduction look very AI/computer-like, you know, visually. And since I'm never the first person to realize these things, I feel like there must be fic about this haha. If you can't think of any off the top of your head, that's fine, no need to spend time looking for stuff or anything, I was just curious
Oh dear, I’m pretty sure I have something like that on my to-read list (because I know there are fics where Sherlock’s an android or a cyborg or, well, lots of other things!), I just haven’t managed to read even nearly as much fanfiction lately as I would’ve liked to. So sorry, darling! Publishing this though because if any of my followers have any suggestions, please feel free to throw them in!

Hay Fever avawtsn | John/Sherlock | T | 5,787 words
In which Sherlock Holmes gets hay fever, gets a lisp, gets quiet, gets John Watson, and gets the giggles.
There are a lot of things I adore about Hay Fever. First of all, well, I'm a sucker for sickfics and it's one (kinda). Then, there's fluff and humour and a bit of angst, and it's a marvellous mix. There's also bedsharing and cuddling and pining and, again, I'm a sucker for all of those things. As the story's wonderfully written, too, it's no wonder it made me grin and feel all warm and fuzzy inside — an adorable read!

Seven Ways to Fall Asleep tartanfics | John/Sherlock | G | 3,772 words
John and Sherlock fall asleep together.
I'm such a sucker for fics where John and (asexual!)Sherlock are sleeping together, although they aren't actually sleeping together, and Seven Ways to Fall Asleep isn't an exception — it's the cutest, sweetest thing! I adore John and Sherlock's characterisations and their relationship here, it's such an adorable, fluffy, tender read. Wonderful work!

Sherlock Fic 723
Experiments, Forensic and Personal tartanfics | John/Sherlock | G | 2,482 words
Sherlock and John on the longest day of the year, 2010-2014. A long-term, informal, dubiously scientific field experiment.
Snapshots of John and Sherlock on the summer solstice, from 2010 to 2014 — and some snapshots they are! A snapshot of a relaxed, sweltering summer day and a snapshot of depressing, rainy summer day after Sherlock's suicide and snapshots of after — it's all there, the story tracks John and Sherlock's relationship and how it changes and develops over the years and it's all done beautifully. A lovely read, a bit heartbreaking and a bit painful, but lovely nonetheless.

Sherlock Fic 722
Where You Are Mazarin221b | John/Sherlock | E | 2,479 words
He can admit he's secretly a little glad Sherlock didn't come with him. He needs a break. Sherlock is a handful at the best of times, and the near-constant apologizing, fixing, dealing-with, and following up on is exhausting. The near-constant unrequited attraction is a bit exhausting, too, to be honest, and John could really use a tiny bit of rest from the relentless hammering on his brain and heart.
I couldn't think of a better fic to read to get back into the swing of things after recovering from the flu than Where Are You, I really couldn't. Because it's John and Sherlock and the beach — there's nothing more I could ask for! It's an absolutely delightful read, both adorable and hot at the same time, something that'll cheer you up immediately. Lovely lovely lovely work!

Sherlock Fic 721
Proof of Investment lilac_trees | John/Sherlock | T | 6,884 words
After John and Mary separate, Sherlock isn't taking any chances with John's attention span ever again. He's got a plan: dinners at new restaurants, outfits that are guaranteed to get John's attention, a new haircut tailored to John's preferences - all to make him stay. John, however, follows these clues to the wrong conclusion, and resigns himself to playing the reluctant wingman for a newly-transformed Sherlock Holmes.
As I mentioned in the previous post, stories with misunderstandings and pining (and a bit of jealousy thrown in the mix!) work for me and Proof of Investment, well, proves it once again. It's an adorable, funny ("But Sherlock wasn't interested in the woman on woman scenes; he quickly flicked through his mental catalog with a wave of his wrist, lining up all the body types and physical attributes of the male stars. Mostly darker hair, thin, tall: all of which worked in Sherlock's favor. The only criteria Sherlock couldn't fit were in terms of haircut; all of the men in the videos had shorter to mid-length hair, sometimes wavy, never overtly curly. Well, that was easily fixable. He took screenshots of the scenes that best displayed the actors' hair⎯surely that's what people did when they went for haircuts, they brought pictures along for reference. He didn't see why this would be any different.") story with the littlest bit of angst in there, too — an absolute delight to read!

Old Familiar Faces Meredydd | John/Sherlock | E | 2,877 words
New Year's Eve, John decided, was going to defy the laws of physics and both suck and blow simultaneously. Sherlock has a date, John does not, and neither man is happy about the situation.
A mix of jealousy, minor misunderstandings and pining — it always works (or, at least it always works for me)! The story doesn't get too heavy though, it's mostly fluffy and humorous and oh yes a bit sexy, too. A delightful, happy-making read!
