A few things Sherlock left fairly obvious, that on reflection, made Greg question how he’d gotten his job in the first place.

A Long Time Coming by thestanceyg | T, 5.8K words | Sherlock's been acting strangely, and Lestrade isn't sure why. One day he finds a shirtless soldier in Sherlock's flat and things start to make a lot more sense.

Sherlock's Who? by freakypet | G, 4.1k words | John has been away for Sherlock's entire career and suddenly returns to London unexpectedly from Afghanistan. Injured and tired and in pain, all he wants is to surprise Sherlock and kiss his husband. His search to find and surprise his wayward partner takes him across London and meets him up with those in Sherlock's world he has only heard about until now.

@pipmer's latest @holmestice offering is a gift, and not just in the obvious way. The tone is just perfect, earnest and (almost willfully) oblivious in equal measures. I was going to quote my favorite bits but found there was no part I wouldn't love to share with you. A particularly fun bit is below the cut, but truly, do yourself a favor and just go read the thing.

(Pipmer, this was such a fun read! I was smiling ear to ear from start to finish.)

Misters to be - a Johnlock fanfiction - Chapter 1 - Deathsletters - Sherlock (TV) [Archive of Our Own]

I actually think the idea is really fun!

It's not a complete fanfiction and it announces that they will be multiple chapters.

It's written in John Watson's perspective and tells how he met Sherlock Holmes and how they found themselves to get married so as to John can stay on the British ground (since he's from Afghanistan in this version). They only know each other for a few weeks and I can't wait to read how it will evolve!

bet you thought you wouldn’t see more of these lists huh. man. this one has been sitting in my drafts for SO long now, mostly complete except for this little chatty bit. those of you who’ve been around for a while probably know i’m a champion procrastinator but this one really takes the cake 🤡 june felt very much like a nothing-month because nothing really happened. it was just very monotonous. and also hot. hope y’all’s june was fun though! and that it wasn’t too unbearably hot, wherever you live. july is basically over now, and wow this was. one hell of a month. and i think that threw me off a bit! after a whole month of nothing, suddenly EVERYTHING happened, and just kept happening, and it was all a bit much. not in a totally bad way, but definitely overwhelming. anyway, i shall cease the rambling now 😮‍💨 on to the main event!

The stage lost a fine actor, even as science lost an acute reasoner, when he became a specialist in crime.

January, 1881: a despondent army doctor is offered a ticket to a Shakespeare play, and is instantly captivated by the fellow playing the Danish prince himself. Then there is a murder. Then they fall in love.

i was hooked to this fic from the very first meeting of john and sherlock. a john pov that is so so good, it’s adorable to read how mesmerising and irresistible john finds sherlock. the flirting and wooing is so subtle and delicately done, even though it’s because they have to avoid drawing attention to their sexualities, there is an undeniable and inherent romanticism and sensuality to it. the whole fic is so sensual to me, with an unhurried pace that tells me the author has superb control over the fic. also a lovely sapphic couple in there too! (hint: one half of the couple is irene 😉) i absolutely love the interactions between the two couples, when john and sherlock can finally be comfortable and be themselves around at least two of their friends 🥹 and, of course, there is a murder. the balance between case and romance is perfect in my view, not too much and not too little of either. the two end up blending into one another, which is exactly as it should be.

There's fake relationship, for a case. Fake parenting too, only that part's not so fake after the first thirty seconds or so, and while the relationship stays fake for a while longer, we all know how these things go. Mycroft is a good, if meddling, brother. Lestrade is somehow just as much of a good brother, though his meddling is more of the take-no-BS variety than the deus-ex sort. And as all the best Sherlockian fics must, it ends with bees.

And that's before we even get to the siren's call that is "garridebs." Few Johnlock fans can resist its lure.

Aside from all that, this fic does the less tropey but somehow more commendable (and rare!) work of finding a way to start a John/Sherlock romantic relationship after all the events of the show that still makes sense in light of those events , and at the same time doesn't have this static ending where they've nothing left to accomplish character-wise. Because while our Baker-Street boys have both matured enough for a romantic relationship to make sense, that doesn't mean there's not still room for them to grow into each other. The past shaped them and is addressed, but it doesn't weigh the fic down.
