Can you believe I posted a new fic!?

And it’s part of the series of Lunch Break Epiphanies!!

It’s called Right Hand Man, it’s only in AO3 for the time being, and it’s of course about our bois Ed and Roy. It a prequel to LBE, so it’s actually a friendship/pre-slash build up fic.

Still very much idiot bois being idiots for one another 😍😍😍

Roy walked in that morning to find his office team abuzz in an exited flurry. Lively chatter invaded the office, and for a moment he wondered if Riza perhaps had come down with some sudden illness and chaos had taken over his main command.

But no. There she was, sitting at her desk with an indulgent smile, watching contently as Jean animatedly retold the juicy behind-the-scenes details of their first meeting with the Xingese ambassador to the cause of all this uproar.

And who was that? Non other than Major Edward Elric (though not for much longer; politics demanded that the alchemist of the people, the hero of the promised day, be promoted now that he was a full ranking officer). He had commandeered Jean’s desk, and was laughing uproariously at Havoc’s narrative even as he went through a stack of papers and cross referenced them with a bunch of books that Roy distantly recognised from his own bookshelves in his office.

One thing I feel people miss about lord of the rings is that it’s sort of……….post-apocalyptic?

Like– the world already ended, a long time ago, and the characters are surrounded by the ruins of dead countries. They spend most of their time journeying through places that are either abandoned (Moria) soon to be abandoned (Rivendell/Lorien) or half-destroyed and falling into decay (Rohan/Gondor.) The villains are creatures that Used to be Human; I feel like Lotr’s orcs/ringwraiths have more in common with zombies than they do with DnD-style orcs, because they’re a state that “normal” people enter when they’re corrupted by a supernatural force.

Even the Shire is surrounded by ruins– the ruins of watchtowers, the ruins of the old Northern Kingdom, the ruined city near the Grey Havens. The people around there have an idiom “when the king comes back” that means the same thing as an idiom like “when pigs fly”–  “when a completely ridiculous improbable thing happens.” They’re so used to the disintegrated state of the world that the idea of a central government is fairy-tale-like and bizarre. They have their little mayors and thains; they don’t need anything else.

So yeah! I see people try to “modern-real-world- au” versions of Hobbiton by making it “a peaceful suburb” but to me, a modern au version of Hobbiton would be more like…….

You don’t know much history, but you understand that there were Wars a long time ago that destroyed a great amount of life on earth.

You live in a little hole in the ground. You don’t know that long ago these holes used to be called “bunkers;” you decorate them with flowers.

When you want to say that something won’t happen, you’ll sarcastically say things “lol yeah SURE that will happen! And tomorrow pigs will fly, Parliament will come back into session, there will be a president in the White House, there will be a prime minister making speeches, and diplomats will intercede between all of them! ha! XD”

If you journey even a little outside of your home, you’ll find the ruins of old cities and skyscrapers. There are messages in the ruins that are written in languages you don’t speak. Human beings used to live here; they don’t anymore.

And you’re not supposed to leave the Shire because sometimes you’ll meet the things that used to be human, but aren’t anymore.

Fun TaiYama fact

Y’all remember that scene in Tri after the #reboot where Yamato goes to Taichi’s and they go out for ice cream and a walk at the bay?

Well, there’s this GrimmIchi (Bleach) fanfic in AO3 where the summary goes something like “they’re walking side by side, as close as they can be without touching...”

And every time I see it I crack up a little bit while my inner fangirl does a little gig, because, people, what Toei calls canon is what others consider a Get-together PLOT!

Any Taiyama fanfiction recommendations?

Personally, I find Tomorrow by Mika-chan really compelling, because it’s more into the full spectrum of human relationships, and not just the romance of a specific situation (trying not to spoiler >.<)

And Overture by Kidhuzural is a cute soulmate fic if you’re into the trope.

With my pride on the wind

I’m not sure if it was Mufasa’s death, Nina’s chimera transmutation or Wizardmon’s death that shocked me and impacted me the most. 

In any case, Wizardmon cemented himself as one of my favourite characters with a bang. Not only is Wizardmon the kind of late appearance character any series could wish for: charming, relatable, loyal, driven and a serious plot device; but he comes charged with beautiful life lessons.

You can always get through the worst of times if you take a helping hand.

Loyalty is to your friends, first and foremost

Friendship means to be there through thick and thin. Sometimes that means following behind and watching them make a mess of themselves. Sometimes that means taking their heads and forcefully forcing it to face the hard truths they have buried under layers of denial.

Friendship is reciprocal and mutual care and love.

Friendship is love, and you never know how far you’d go for those you love until you’re there. It will probably be very far and very deep.

So here’s a tribute to this wonderful character, his influence and his masterful excecution.

Happy Odaiba Memorial day!

I had hoped to be here having already watched Kizuna, enjoying a fulfilling sense of coming full-circle on this 21st aniversario of one of my all-time favourites. But here we are, with Kizuna only in Japanese, hidden somewhere in the depths of the web, and my job absorbing too much of my time for me to dig it up. In fact, it’s the reason why my posts stopped entirely for the last month.

But Odaiba Day deserves a post. If only for me to add to the algorithm with one more hashtag =D

I had a line-up of thoughts and ideas to comment and share with you about my current and all-time fave fandoms and ships, but it’s not the moment.

I stuck to relevant publications in my social media during the October 18 uprising in my home country, and I shall honour USA’s very necessary social revolt the same.

We must all strive, first and foremost, to make our world, even if only our immediate community, a kinder, fairer place, where ancient, imperial structures of power (white, male, cis-gender, heterosexual, European, individualistic, extrovert, entrepreneur —EDIT: and rich. I forgot rich. How could I forget rich!) give way to contemporary ethics of equality and mutual respect, where our dignity rests on our mutual humanity and the unquestionable certainty that we owe it to every single other human being in this world to defend it.
