I just finished “The Last Housewife” by Ashley Winstead and HOLY SHIT. If I could give it a million stars on Goodreads I would. I cannot recommend it enough. It comes with every trigger warning imaginable, but if you’re in a safe head space and place to read it, please do. It’s about a true crime podcast and a cult. But really it’s about coercive control, narcisstic abuse, and undue influence; the spectrum of misogyny, from everyday life to extraordinary circumstances; the role context and empathy plays in healing, forgiveness, and justice; and so, so much more. #NXIVM, a cult to which I probably have given too much mental real estate, is even given a shout out at the end, very fittingly. Those in the #igotout community, when you are far, far, FAR into your healing journey, I hope you read this and take comfort: you are not alone.

People, get thee to this book, immediamente.

And that’s a wrap on Willy Wonka Jr.! 🍭🍫🍬 The nugget had a blast as Assistant Light Board Operator for her first middle school production. After 6 months of hard work, the kids put on 4 shows across 3 days, and WOW, were they awesome! I was blown away. The music, the sets and costumes, the singing and dancing — and especially the ✨LIGHTS✨ — were absolutely spectacular!! Second book to blow my mind in 2023: Recursion by Blake Crouch

I don’t absolutely love it like I absolutely love Horse by Geraldine Brooks (the first book to 🤯 in ‘23), but without a doubt, Recursion has forever shifted my perspective. Highly recommend.

Feb. 1 is memorable day in our nation’s history. Great and horrific events. I applaud Heather Cox Richardson for shining a light on this day as it relates to civil rights. From the Battle Hymn to sit-ins, from Tyre Nichols to new (censored) curriculum, from DeSantis to bigots everywhere, we have come so far; we have so, so, so far to go.
