I have collected a few more recent cases (bc I was asked) and my own two cents about the matter here and it's actually alarming that I could name so many abusers on top of my head. Isn't this scary?

I know it's not a pleasant thing to think about but sadly figure skating doesn't provide a safe environment for skaters and this is sadly a fact. I just want ppl to know what is going on and I think as fans we may not be able to provide change but by bringing attention to the cases we can at least learn to not support blindly and see skaters and coaches as what they are - humans with flaws, humans who can do evil...

Yet again another figure skater - Chinese ice dancer Xinyu Liu - has been accused of various s*x related crimes:

Here is a short summary:

Xinyu Liu's Instagram account has been hacked and his name been changed "turning myself in for raping minors". His Instagram account has now been deleted but screenshots have been shared on Weibo (you can find them in @delayed3A (x/twt) account.

Xinyu Liu is accused of:

- using the athlete fund of the Chinese fed to go out and consume drinks with marijuana

- using the fund to ask international students out, treat them to dinner and then sleep with them. Afterwards he ghosted them. He also allegedly took pictures and videos of the girls/women, some of them who are minors, with the alleged intention to blackmail them. The hacker has many screenshots of girls proving his claim.

- one girl being treated so badly by him that she tried to attempt suicide and ended up in hospital. This has been on the Douban news but was taken down due to the pressure of his management.

- Xinyu Liu and his ice dance partner Shiyue Wang allegedly misused the athletes fund for their own entertainment

Shiyue Wang - his ice dance partner - said that they would go against the hackers and have turned this in to the police. Xinyu Liu, who has no access to his accounts on Instagram or Weibo, spoke through Shiyue Wang's account that he had been maliciously attacked and that it's untrue.

Personal note: Here is the thing though that through private DMs part of this accusations that he raped a minor had been shared since September/October 2023 (that's when I heard it). As we see how accusations are handled in IAM (with Nikolaj Sørensen) and the sport in general and how many accusations come to light it's hard to believe all things are false, especially when the poster who hacked the Instagram acc said he has evidence for the crimes and shared some censored "evidence" as well. Survivors don't gain anything with coming forward. The way this came out may have been uncoventional but as a rumor about Xinyu Liu being investigated has been around for a while I have no reason to not side with the survivors.

So my appeal is yet again BELIEVE SURVIVORS!

There are much more ppl accused who are guilty than those that are not. And most cases are never brought to light at all. And the list in this case of the allegations is long. Believe survivors!

Dear Survivors, Band-Aids Have Purpose.

We've been told to stay away from band-aids, that they do no real good for healing but that isn't entirely true. Band-aids were never meant to be a cure, that's TRUE, but they ARE meant for protection.

These little strips, however disposable in the end, are what open the window between hurt and healing, take the breath between tears and smiles, create the space between pain and relief, and shelter the cuts from dangerous debris surrounding it. Airing out our pain is a MYTH.

Merciless exposure to the elements at our most vulnerable kills something in us, but covering our wounds maintains the natural defenses that keep our hope alive...and a wound that heals with hope is less likely to leave a scar. Band-Aids are meant to give our bodies the time and safety they need to reconnect the severed strands that bleed us, cleanse the poison that weakens us. Ripping off that protection will feel uncomfortable, but in the end, a band-aid didn't heal you...

YOU healed you.

I spoke with Ava and she said ... (part 1)

Background to the story: This article on Buzzfeed News. (CW: B-mb- files, abuse) I asked Ava: 

“Can you point to anything we might have been able to do, to help you and others who get into such a situation? “

And she replied:

“Be more aware about how tropey stuff on safety is actively weaponized by abusers. Stop making blanket statements perpetuating the idea that “hypnosis can't make you do anything you don't want to do” and elaborate on that statement if you see someone make it. When hypnosis is combined with other forms of coercion and abuse it can definitely be used as another tool for an abuser to attempt to push/override boundaries. 

It was hard for me and others to reach out for help because every time I saw a post that said that hypnosis couldn't make you do things you don't want to do, it made me question if my experience really was abuse. I blamed myself even more for the things that were happening and I assumed others would blame me too... it felt like I was the problem, not him. 

That statement also parroted and reinforced things he said when I confronted him about issues. It seems like a really small statement, but in that dynamic it really did contribute to the reinforcement of a toxic loop, that made it very hard to actually ask for help or to recognize something was wrong. Many of us just thought that we were the problem. That our mindset or anxiety was the problem and that we just needed to focus more on our programming as he was recommending, because then we would stop overthinking things and getting anxious so much about <insert thing he convinced us we wanted to do>.”

As much as I've loved Anti-Flag throughout the years, the allegations against Justin Sane are just too damning. The other band mates seemed to know something already, because the speed at which they announced the breakup and the dismantling of their online accounts was frankly astonishing. It sucks because their music and message was so invigorating. It just goes to show, though, that a predator can and will be anywhere. I hope his victims find healing and happiness in their lives.

introduction into Maryland's report on C.S.A in the Archdiocese of Baltimore

In April, Maryland’s Attorney General’s Office released a giant report summarizing years of child sexual abuse and coverups in The Archdiocese of Baltimore. The same week, a bill expanding statute of limitations for civil suits passed.

Now, the Archdiocese filed for bankruptcy days before statue of limitations would be expanded and they anticipated hella lawsuits.
