The clinical years of medicine are so much more different from the preclinical years -real people & real procedures. No longer YouTube videos textbooks and cadavers. Doing your first procedure no matter how small it is can be extremely nerve wrecking. My first procedure was suturing what was left of a mans finger after he had an accident in a mill. With shaky fingers and a hundred thoughts of all the things that can go wrong and the glaring stares of the other medical students watching I eventually managed to do the sutures. It was truly an amazing yet scary experience.
