I was too happy when I saw the "hero/civilian" troop, because from what I read I was too excited. But then I saw the rest, and I realized that I have a lot to plan.

(this is going to be my third year participating in halbarry week and I'm so happy and excited).

HalBarry dancing tango

Last night after a very hard day, I had a sort of Headcanon about Hal and Barry dancing one of my favorite genres in the whole world. The tango.

The scene in my head was very simple:

Hal and Barry infiltrate a mission without being the Flash or Green Lantern, just the two of them as civilians.

They manage to see one of the targets, but he is on the dance floor so it is difficult to approach him.

Diana gives them the instructions to approach the objective however they can.

Barry makes a thousand plans, but none of them look convincing, until Hal, with his usual confidence, stands in front of him and invites him to dance under the pretext of getting closer to the objective. Barry doubts it, since he only knows how to dance jazz and is not even very good at it, but realizing that there is no other option, he accepts.

At first Barry is stiff and steps on Hal more times than he can count, feeling too tense and nervous until Hal plays a softer beat when the song allows.

"Do you trust me?" the question is barely a whisper that Barry can hear.

"I always do it"

The answer is the only confirmation Hal needed to gain the courage to lead Barry throughout the dance.

Little by little Barry begins to let go and enjoy the moment and the closeness he has with Hal.

Forgetting about the main mission and focusing solely on the way their bodies move when they are together.

At the end of the night he must run around the building looking for his target, because they were too busy staring at each other in silence to pay attention to the criminal's steps.

(Well, this is outside of what I usually publish, but in my defense I publish it in the hope that someone who knows how to draw, compared to me; was inspired or managed to get interested in my silly idea. Please don't judge me or be too harsh with my doodle, it's been almost eight years since I drew something.)

I really like the idea of hal having wind themed elements of him cuz not only wind and planes are the biggest part of his life I can somewhat see his overcoming of fear thing as some sort of form of freeing of something holding you back to do your goal (like free as a wind)

When I think of the wind I think of Hal, not because of airplanes directly, but because one of the things I like most about him as a character is his freedom. Hal loves and appreciates his freedom too much. It is as free and fluid as the wind.

He goes where he wants, when he wants and at the pace he wants; That's why I feel like Hal is so connected to heaven.

Hal loves the wind, because it's probably the only thing in his life that he knows he can still have.

Beyond airplanes and what they mean to him, the wind represents him and his life.

Hal is the wind.

I don't know why, making hal's dad abusive and also the main reason he doesn't feel fear is cuz the guardian removes his ability to feel fear is kinda a disservice to his character, and imo he actually more like a wooby that all

his ability to overcome fear is really interesting on its own and idk man

Lately I feel like they're trying to take away all of Hal's character development and background and I personally find it super unfair and silly, since Hal has an incredible background; but I feel like ever since Hal came back to life and with the 2011 reboot they've been trying to "rewrite" him in a pretty bad way.

There are good and redeemable things, yes; but there are many comics that I have read about him where they try to change his origin story, his motives and especially his relationship with his father.

From the beginning I am not convinced that Martín was an abusive father, and I feel that it does not even completely match the idea that Hal admired him or wanted to be like him.

People do not want to be like their abusers and many times if they want to be like them it is to be able to defend themselves against them, not out of admiration and longing like Hal.

Hal just wanted to connect with his father after losing him, he wanted to feel close to him.

If his father had been an abuser, Hal probably would not have tried so hard to be as much as Martin, and perhaps on more than one occasion he would have let out a comment or in some situation he would have let it be seen that Martin was an abuser, but believe me, those things are noticeable even if you don't say it explicitly, there are very exact phrases or words that let you know that type of information.

The reason they try to explain to us why Hal is not afraid is absurd, not very organic and not very credible.

The reason that Hal cannot feel fear, which was linked to his past with the death of his father, is tragic and traumatic, which gives that depth to the character and allows you to empathize with him, feel a little sorry and be able to understand him better. because there are people who can identify with that.

A traumatic event can fuck up your entire psyche.

But on the other hand, the explanation that a cosmic force came and took away his fear sounds stupid and empty.

But honestly it doesn't surprise me that they do this to Hal, they already did it with his season as "The Spectre" and when it was Parallax, the Parallax thing still bothers me a lot because it literally invalidated all of his feelings, history, bonds, trauma and reduce that whole arc to "It's just that a cosmic parasite took over him and that's why he became evil and got gray hair."

Just don't be surprised that they later remove another super important element from its story development and change it for something emptier.

He was life, joy, kindness, and rebirth. He was cheery, kind, and had a heart the size of the universe. He was beautiful in a way you couldn't help but notice.

Hal was the moon.

He was death, gentleness, time. He was loud but quiet, bitter yet sweet, and loved with a passion. He was handsome enough to rival the sun.

To Hal, Barry was everything. He was his purpose, his reason for living. Barry was his best friend, his soulmate, and the love of his life.

To Barry, Hal was his world. His life revolved around him. Hal was his everything. Barry loved him with every molecule of his being.

They were the sun and the moon, the yin and yang, and they were perfect

Barry surveys the table. It's strewn with what looks like every craft supply from his not-insubstantial model painting stash. They start orderly enough, the paint pots and brushes lined up neatly besides the mat by his chair, and then devolving into a chaotic mess of paper towels, plastic cups, and loose sprues from who-knows-what heaped precariously around the model airplane kit.

He could ask about when Hal had set this up, since they've just returned from Barry's surprise birthday party - a surprise, mostly, because he'd assumed that by April his friends and family would have moved on to something else. But he'd spent so long choosing between the pile of socks Wally had gifted him over the years that he could have missed the Rogues parading through the apartment in their rush out the door.

So instead, he taps a finger against his barely-suppressed smile. "How many birthdays ago is that plane from?"

"You mean when I gave it to you, or you gave it to me?" Hal whips Barry's apron from the back of the chair with a flourish and holds it out for him. "As for that Justice Society tabletop RPG, I assumed you excavated it from an archeological dig somewhere. So are we going to get painting, or are you going to spend another year sighing about how you wished you had time to paint it?"

Barry's fingers are already twitching towards the box. Does he start with the Flash, or does he warm up with another figure first? From Hal's smirk, Barry's thought process is plain on his face.

"It's practically a tradition at this point. It would be a shame to actually do something about it." Barry doesn't bother hiding his smile anymore at the strangled noise Hal makes from behind him as he ties his apron. He pulls back Hal's chair, offering it to him with a mock bow. If it doesn't really do much to hide the heat in his ears, well, he knows a lost cause when he sees one, and in this one, he's more than happy to lose. "But I know better than to get between you and your model airplanes."

(Also, yes, it's supposed to be the same model from The Color of Fear, as seen most recently in toytle's awesome redraw!)
